5. • The people of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years
• God allowed them to wander that long because of their stubbornness and disobedienc
• The Israelites spent 200 years in slavery to the Egyptians
• The 40 years wandering in the desert were also a time God set apart to
remind the Hebrews of who they once were , why they mattered, why
had chosen them
• The Israelites needed that time so they could fully understand the dream and the purpos
God had for them as a people
• Before the Hebrews established their own nation, God wanted to make sure He was clea
regarding what this nation would be
• He wanted His name represented well.

6. THIS IS WHAT DEUTORONOMY MOSTLY CONSISTS OF, THE CENTRAL
LAW CODE THAT THE HEBREWS WERE TOLD TO LIVE BY
For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the
mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. He ensures
that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among
you and gives them food and clothing, So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you
yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt
