Judaism is a religion, culture and ethnicity. It originated with Abraham and his descendants and is based on teachings from the Torah and Moses. Judaism involves following commandments, celebrating holidays and Shabbat, and maintaining Jewish identity and traditions even if not religious. While related through shared origins and scriptures, Judaism and Christianity are distinct, as Jews do not believe Jesus was the messiah and still await his coming.

Session 05 Old Testament Overview - Exodus 20-40
The document provides an overview and summary of Exodus 20-40. It discusses how God establishes the terms of the covenant with His people at Mount Sinai, including giving them the Ten Commandments and other laws. The people fail to keep the covenant by worshipping a golden calf. Moses intercedes for them. In the beginning

The Life and Dangers of Jeremiah
- Jeremiah was a prophet in ancient Israel who preached for 40 years during a time of great wickedness and idolatry. His messages of coming judgment were widely unpopular.
- He endured persecution and imprisonment for prophesying that Jerusalem would fall to Babylon as God's judgment. His laments over the destruction of Judah make him renowned as the "weeping prophet."
- The book of Jeremiah contains his prophecies, sermons, and object lessons, providing valuable lessons about obedience, righteousness, false assurance, and the relentless warnings of God followed by promises of mercy. It highlights Jeremiah's perseverance despite facing opposition.

During the period of the Judges from 1250 BC to 1020 BC, Israel was led by charismatic figures called Judges rather than having a centralized government. Some of the major Judges included Deborah, who advised military leaders and accompanied Barak into battle; Gideon, who was called by God to save Israel from the Midianites with a small army; and Samson, who had superhuman strength from his uncut hair but eventually revealed his secret and died bringing down the Philistine temple. The last Judge, Samuel, transitioned Israel to the period of the Kings and was both a prophet and spiritual leader.

- 5. • The people of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years • God allowed them to wander that long because of their stubbornness and disobedienc • The Israelites spent 200 years in slavery to the Egyptians • The 40 years wandering in the desert were also a time God set apart to remind the Hebrews of who they once were , why they mattered, why had chosen them • The Israelites needed that time so they could fully understand the dream and the purpos God had for them as a people • Before the Hebrews established their own nation, God wanted to make sure He was clea regarding what this nation would be • He wanted His name represented well.
- 6. THIS IS WHAT DEUTORONOMY MOSTLY CONSISTS OF, THE CENTRAL LAW CODE THAT THE HEBREWS WERE TOLD TO LIVE BY For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing, So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt Deuteronomy 10:17-19
