This document discusses how to have a dialogue on refugees from a biblical perspective. It begins with praying that God will reveal His truths and soften hearts. It explores what Scripture says about refugees, how God values them, and how believers can obey God by serving refugees. The discussion will focus on refugees, sojourners, aliens and strangers. It encourages praying first before discerning how to have empathy for refugees and how the community can take spirit-led action to help them.

This prayer model is from the book "The Hour That Changes the World". The author presents 12 sections of prayer that if practiced for 5 minutes each would accumulate an hour of prayer a day for the development of a habit of prayer. Eventually, once the habit is developed, a more intimate, personal prayer devotion can be created. Very useful for those who want to know how to pray.
3 points:
1. From 10 commandments - we are meant to be under God's rule
2. From 1 Corinthians - do not allow factions to dominate us
3. Focus on Christ
Tackling racism, prejudice and social divisions in our nation needs more than just words - it takes a Kingdom mindset to build the rainbow nation we all dream of.
This sermon outline by Brian Helsby (Heartlines Project Director, former National Director of Youth for Christ and husband of Megan Helsby) will inspire and challenge us to act on racism in order to build the Kingdom.
MISSIONS isn't just a church program and missionaries aren't spiritual elites. Missions is more than evangelism in other countries.

2. • We will ask God to:
• Reveal His truths through His Word
• Soften our hearts to the lives that He has created in divine
purpose
• To speak into our lives how He desires for us to grow in truth,
pray in faith, act in mercy.
We come humbly to listen for the Word of
God
3. • We will ask God’s truth to silence and speak over in this time
together:
• The talking heads who speak into our lives whether we desire to
hear them or not
• Political Rhetoric
• Our fallen nature of wanting to lean upon our own
understanding
We come humbly to listen for the Word of
God
4. • This is a place for safe and open dialogue
• We desire to walk in obedience to God, in love
• This is a community for learning, growing, full of grace,
forgiveness, and mercy
We are brothers and sisters in Christ
5. Where we will camp out:
Matthew 25: 34-40
• “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed
by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of
the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave
me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was
naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in
prison, and you visited me.’
“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you
hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a
stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When
did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the
least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
6. Three Questions We Will Explore
•What does Scripture say about ____________?
•How does God see/value__________________?
•How does God ask me to be obedient in
service to Him?
7. Refugees: Sojourners, Aliens, Strangers, רֵּ֖ג
• From the moment we left Eden, we became strangers in a
strange land.
• We are to reside, thrive, and heal in this world until we are called
home.
• God laid out a plan for us to understand our own identity by
asking us to take care of those who find themselves in need of a
home, who are in need of a place that is safe, where they and
their families can share in community.
• We are רֵּ֖,ג God’s people have been displaced throughout
Scripture.
8. What does Scripture say about refugees, the
sojourner, the stranger, the alien? Who are
they?
• Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:22-24)
• The Patriarchs: Abraham (Genesis 12 & 23), Lot (Genesis 19),
Jacob (46:1-7), Joseph’s family (Genesis 47:1-6)
• The Israelites After Joseph’s generation (Exodus 1:8-14)
• Those who followed Moses (Exodus 12: 37-39, Exodus 22:21)
• Christ (Matthew 2:13-15)
• The Body of Christ (Ephesians 2:11-22)
9. How does God see/value the sojourner, the
stranger, the alien?
• Mosaic law: Exodus 12:49, 19:9-10, 22:21, Leviticus 19:9-10,
19:33-34, 23:22, 24:22-23, Deuteronomy 1:16, 6:10-13, 18-19,
14:28-29, 26: 12-13, 24:14, 17-22, 26:5, 27:19, Numbers 35 and
Joshua 20
• David speaks and sings: 1 Chronicles 29:14-15, Psalm 105,
137:1-6, 146:9
• The Prophets share: Isaiah 16:4, Jeremiah 7:5-7, 22:3-5, Exekiel
47:21-22, Zechariah 7:8-10, Malachi 3:5
• Jesus proclaims: Matthew 5:10-11, Luke 4:16-21
• The epistles share: Romans 12:13, 13:1-2
10. How does God ask me to be
obedient in service to Him?
11. The Sojourner, The Alien, The Refugee Today
• A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her
country because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has
a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion,
nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social
group. Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do
so. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading
causes of refugees fleeing their countries.
12. The First Step: Prayer
• We humbly approach God to speak to us. We make a
commitment to listen and receive God’s truth.
• We ask God for our heart to be aligned where His heart is when
it comes to the sojourner, the alien, the refugee.
• We ask for His love to cover us, for His wisdom to inform us,
and ultimately for the Holy Spirit to move us.
13. The Second Step: Empathy and Discernment
• Speak with fellow members of your community, of this
community of what God has placed on your heart.
• Pray again for guidance on how to walk in faith and obedience if
you find your heart empathetic and moved by the plight of the
sojourners, aliens, and refugees.
• Pray, communicate, and gather as a couple, as a family, as a
community what God has revealed as your next step.
14. The Third Step: Spirit Led Action
• Find out how you can take action. Through donation, the giving
of provision, through prayer, support, advocacy, being a family
who serves our local population of refugees.
• Wherever you are, however you choose to respond. We as a
community commit to praying for you even if we are not where
you are.
