For we who are in this tent

David failed to seek God's guidance before taking Bathsheba, though he normally consulted God on other matters. God is a benevolent Lord who provides for our spiritual needs and acts as a good father to his children. When we don't ask God for help, it may be due to pride, ignorance, or thinking we won't like his answer. God's response to our requests may not always be what we want, but he will give us something of greater value according to his abundant power.
Nineveh Believed
God tells Jonah to preach to Nineveh, and though Jonah initially flees, he eventually delivers the message that Nineveh will be overthrown in 40 days. The people of Nineveh believe and repent, so God decides not to destroy the city. Jonah becomes angry about this, but God teaches him a lesson using a plant. The document also discusses Paul giving thanks for those who have believed the gospel and exhorting the Thessalonians to stand firm in their faith until Jesus returns to judge.

Speak and do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty • Visitors Will Quickly Notice Hypocrisy • So Make Sure… • Your Faith has Works (14-20) • You are a “Hearer” and a “Doer” of the Word (1:22-25) • You bridle your tongue here and away (1:26) • Or everyone will know that your religion is useless • And everyone will know that your religion is useful

Greet Your Neighbor as Yourself (8) • Leviticus 19:33-34 • 33 ‘And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34 The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. • You were once a stranger to this congregation as well

Comfort Zones • Saying “Hello” does require us to leave our comfort zones • God has always asked His people to leave their comfort zones for His purpose (Abraham – Foreign Land, Moses – Left Egypt, Peter – Cornelius) • Faith in God is always the solution! To even go to a foreign side of the building!
- 6. “You sit here in a good place” • James 2:1-4 • Sit here/Stand here/Sit Here at my Footstool • People feel welcomed/unwelcomed by where they are told to sit • “You sit here in a good place, by me”
- 7. For the Glory of God • Romans 15:7 • Help Visitors Get Connected • Visitor Cards • Share what is going on at the church here in Gardendale • Develop a Friendship • The weather is a good subject to talk about • Jesus is a great subject to talk about (Rom. 15:9-13) • Introduce visitors to other members • “Let me know if I can do anything for you” • James 2:14-20
