This document analyzes the front covers and double page spreads of three photography magazines. It notes that the front covers commonly feature a single prominent subject with surrounding text in a consistent, professional font. The document prefers a double page spread with a single wide image spanning both pages and text on one side. It acknowledges another common double page style with multiple images and texts provides more variety. The conclusion is the analysis will inform the design of a new magazine with aspects of both common styles.

the front cover – the way you can straight away tell what the magazine is about without
reading the title is real good, a perfectly edited portrait – central to the cover making the
only subject stand out and look good. The back ground of the photograph is dulled out
colours compared to her skin tone and style of clothing giving her a rich look.
The wording on the front is bold and clear, nothing is too long to bore you, The title '
professional photo' appeals to people aspiring to be pros within the photography industry.
The font makes the whole magazine look professional and suits the title and style of image
a lot.
Double page – on this the imagery makes photography look fun and interesting , every
photo the subject is smiling within an interesting place.
The titles of each part of text are clear and show what there are about and the text isn't
too small so you can clearly read it, again with the same standard serif font making the
magazine look very professional and consistent.
This magazine could appeal to the more professional photographers interested in learning
about other peoples experiences and work and trying to improve them selves as a
photographer.

The front cover on this magazine is quite similar to the first one I looked at, but it’s a
much closer up portrait and much brighter photograph, there's less color but the
photo is clearer and stands out more. It is the same title magazine but this one is
about weddings – I know this from the clear sub title on the front cover telling us
what the contents are about. The consistent professional serif styled font shows the
magazine is professional and well established.
The double page spread is a lot different to the 1st magazine and I do like this one a lot
– there is not a huge amount of text but there is one wide image that covers the two
pages and the colors and quality looks amazing. I like how the text is down the right
side and the 2 subjects are centralized within the double page but placed on the right
side close to the center( if it was dead center it would look bad because of the crease )
This magazine would appeal to photographers of all skill trying to up there
portrait/nighttime game, there's a lot of information that would appeal to people
trying to do portraits at night creating it mainly aimed at nightlife photographers.
7. Existing Product
This is a different magazine to the others but following the same kind of style with
the one subject on the front and professional font – the subject on this one is black
and white and much closer to the other two magazines I’ve looked at but this is
showing off with the title ‘perfect portraits’ – the black and white looks good on the
bold white writing and makes the small pink sub sections pop out a bit more
showing competitions and things which immediately grabs attention.
The double page spread is very similar to the first magazine I looked at with a lot of
text and examples of portraits I like how the same font is consistent making it look
pleasing to the eye and how the left side has black and white photos but the right
Side has color – this ma kes it look pleasing and organized which I really like.
This magazine would appeal to photographers interested in learning about portrait
photography, could also interest people in which like to view artists work. Would
mostly appeal to people just starting out within the photography industry due to
the title ‘ armature photographer ‘ .
8. Research Analysis
The most common features I've seen is they have consistent
fonts and are normally standard and professional looking
fonts, there is normally one man subject with text round the
outside on the front covers.
I will be using the font style and front page quality's using the
one subject but the double page I kind of want to go for one
wide image that covers both pages with text on the left as I
liked the way that looked and it caught my eye rather well,
Then again the double page with more images and texts is
good because it shows a more wide range of images and
moments and there's a lot more to talk about, this also makes
it look popular if there's more text/interviews.
