A typical way of relating social/political issues to art assumes that art represents "the thing" one way
or another. But there can be a more interesting perspective, which is looking at the field of art as a
place of work. Basically look at what it does not what it shows. Amid all other forms of art, fine art
has been associated with post–Fordist ideology. Post–Fordism is a popular system of economically
based on production, consumption and has been in most industrialized countries since the late 20th
century. Contemporary art is not an out of this world discipline hidden away in some remote
building. In fact, it's the opposite because it positions itself in the thick of things. It can function as a
brand name without a brand feeding off the bits and pieces of social and political issues. Presently,
contemporary art has grown apart from important hubs, which gives the artist a wider range of

Public art installations has been used to engage people to interact more with their city and their
community. These kinds of installation give people a space and a chance to express their
individuality, thoughts and aspirations with their community improving or creating relationships
among people [6].
Designing space for self–expression and socialization have an important role for people in a

Effects on Academic Achievement
Matt Leland (2005) emphasizes the benefits of mindfulness on academic achievement, "Mindfulness
is helpful in the moment of learning and also in more future–focused skills. By maintaining a calmer
view of the present, students are able to improve their study habits, planning, and organizational
skills" (p. 20). During my elementary years, I wish I would have been taught more of these skills to
help with the academic struggles I experienced. When I was younger, I remember feeling
performance anxiety before I had to take an exam in science. Although I enjoyed science class and
studied, I felt overwhelmed, nervous, and my mind was going in a million different directs. I also
notice in my field experience that many of my students tense up or sigh when they are told they are
about to take an exam. There is an uneasiness that affected students in the classroom and added
pressure.
The research I gathered supported the positive effects mindfulness has on a student's concentration,
memory, and critical thinking skills. As a teacher, I would utilize this method before an exam by
modeling to my students how to focus on their breath while moving and stretching their body. I
would have students close their eyes and say positive words of affirmation about themselves in the

Artist Introduction
Jasper Johns was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 15, 1930. He is still alive today known for his
paintings and printmaking. During his childhood, he lived with his father's grandparents due to his
parents' marriage ending. His only introduction to art as a child was of paintings in his grandfather's
house of his grandmother who had died. He then moved around among with his aunt then his mother
throughout his teenage years, and then finally graduated high school in Sumter South Carolina as
valedictorian of his class. After high school, Jasper then spent little time enrolled at the University of
South Carolina, and later directed his education to New York City studying at the Parsons School of
Design. A few years later he was drafter to Sendai, Japan to fight during the Korean War in 1952.
Two years later, he came back to New York where he met his partner, Robert Rauschenberg. Jasper's
art career began when he discovered the world of contemporary art sharing views with Merce
Cunningham and John Cage. His work was revealed at Rauschenberg's studio to Leo Castelli, a
gallery owner who gave Jasper his first solo show in 1958. This led to his pieces being bought by
the founder of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Later in 1963, Johns and Cage both founded the
Foundation of Contemporary Performance Arts in New York City, which is now known today as the
Foundation of Contemporary Arts.

Cameron Award during her participation at The Worldwide Photography Gala Awards in 2012 and
was awarded with the Kwek Leng Joo Prize of Excellence in Still Photography Award in 2013
(Choo, 2014). In all her artworks, Choo has reflected upon the socio–cultural norms of the modern
society, highlighting relatable moments and characters. She was inspired by Octovio Paz who stated
that the deep–rooted fact of the human condition is solitude, and only Man knows that he is alone

Post–war Japanese society is a world where High and Low art is blurred together by otaku, such as
anime, and social class. However, Takashi Murakami straddles the line. Murakami spills a mix of
Nihanga and Otaku into the canvases, plastic toys, handbags, shoes, etc; endorsing his own
theory/style named "Superflat". Using strategical subject matter such as popular Japanese comic
figures combined with ukiyo–e(traditional Japanese block prints), and addressing these contrasting
qualities to outside cultures; Murakami intensifies what Pop Art accomplished, art versus material.
