This document outlines the steps taken to research, plan, and produce a music video project. It involved researching the indie rock genre and specific bands using online resources. Visual evidence like music videos were compiled and analyzed using various software tools. Surveys were conducted to understand audience tendencies. Planning included creating treatments, storyboards, and test footage. The music video was produced using recorded footage edited in Windows Movie Maker. Ancillary tasks like magazine promotions and digipaks were created using Photoshop and PowerPoint.
3. First and foremost , I wanted to establish what
it is that appeals to me about my personal
favourite music videos . To do this , I used to
YOUTUBE .com.
I watched the videos and looked out for consistencies.
4. In these very early stages , I did not consider contextual
factors like time period or genre.
5. STEP TWO :
Research
( SEE : âfocus genre â indie rockâ & âindie rock â
male gazeâ on blogger)
6. I very quickly decided that I wanted to work within the indie rock
genre. It was time for me to frequent myself with genre conventions .
(SEE : 'FOCUS GENRE - INDIE ROCK' ON BLOGGER)
I used online conversion software
such as 'YOUTUBE IN MP4' to rip
various indie rock music videos
from YouTube.
7. Much like this evaluation task , I decided that a study which
required so much visual evidence would be best presented in either
video form or presentation form .
For the indie rock introductory
video and my investigation of how
Mulveyâs Male gaze theory is
applicable to indie rock , I
presented my findings
using 'WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER'
and 'ADOBE PREMIERE PRO'
8. With all the evidence compiled and analysed, the studies were
then exported and uploaded to BLOGGER.com
The audio used in these videos are ripped from
physical copies of their corresponding albums . To
do this , I used the WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 'RIP
CD' function and imported the Audio file to
WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER / ADOBE PREMIERE PRO
11. To gain understanding of how indie rock musicians progress
stylistically through out their career , I used WIKIPEDIA to
consolidate my knowledge of Arctic Monkeysâ discography.
12. I then returned to YouTube and investigated all of
their music videos.
To present my findings , I used
the INSERT - TABLE function on
MICROSOFT WORD.
13. I took a screenshot of the word document , cropped it
using PAINT and saved it as a JPEG before uploading
the JPEG to Blogger .
16. To present my textual analysis of similar products ,
I used 'EMAZE' , the online presentation sharing software .
17. To present the visual evidence needed to support this analysis , I used
'YOUTUBE IN MP4' and 'YOUTUBE TO GIF.com'
I then downloaded these GIFs and uploaded them to
the EMAZE presentations.
'YOUTUBE TO GIF' creates 5 second
looped snippets from videos'
19. STEP TWO:
Research
(SEE : âmusic video consumer survey - viewer tendenciesâ &
Evaluation question two - what have you learned from your audience
feedback ?â on blogger
)
20. As well as EMAZE , I used SURVEY MONKEY
to present my research of viewer tendencies
.
I created surveys on survey monkey and distributed them
amongst willing friends and family . I used EMAZE visuals to
present my findings .
21.
22. STEP TWO:
Research
(SEE : indie rock album advert analysis on blogger &
Indie rock digipak analysis )
23. I used MICROSOFT POWERPOINT to produce the
Digipak analysis and the album advert analysis .
As with the star construction study , I also used PAINT to save my
posters as a JPEG and upload them to my blog .
29. I also used powerpoint to create a study of
intertextuality in indie rock and a
summary of Andrew Goodwinâs findings .
I uploaded these presentations to SLIDESHARE . COM
and embedded them into my blog .
40. For the test footage , I uploaded the pre recorded concert
footage used to make my video from phone and embedded
it into Blogger.
41.
42. STEP THREE :
Music Video
production
(SEE : âMusic video product : soundcheck )
43. To produce my music video , exported the pre recorded
footage from my Nokia 920 phone to Windows movie
maker .
The photos used in this music video were all processed
by an âAUTO FIXâ tool on my phone before they were
uploaded to movie maker . I did some further editing of
the photographs on PHOTOSHOP
44. Again , I used windows movie maker to
compile and edit my music video product
