2. Language
Language acquisition is simply known as the process of learning a 2nd or foreign
language ("Process of Language Acquisition" p.1).
This pillar is important because the world is becoming more and more diverse and
we need to be able to communicate with one another by using different languages.
The role of language acquisition in the 21st Century is to communicate so we can
have better understandings for what each other is saying and we can learn about
other people's culture.
3. Technology
It is very important to add technology while introducing language acquisition.
Teachers need to get their students attention and have them participate in conversations
because students learn best when they are actively involved.
Technology we used
1. Posters can help by giving foreign words and give their definitions in English. (For example:
nadar-to swim)
2. YouTube videos can help students hear conversations and how words are pronounced.
3. Facebook or Twitter can be involved to have students communicate back and forth with
each other on the internet using their foreign language.
4. Students can use Zello in order to communicate back and forth with each other using the
2nd language.
5. A blog could be used by having the teacher post a topic for discussion and have the students
respond to the blog using their foreign language.
4. "Specific Example"
How can we incorporate language in
the classroom?
Skit- Learning Spanish
Have students get into small groups
give the groups a small list of words of
different foods in Spanish with their
meanings in English as to become
familiar with the word
show examples of how the word is
used through YouTube
have the groups perform their own
examples
Another example:
Duolingo
A free app/website that uses a
competitive game format to
enhance language learning
5. Conclusion
Language acquisition is becoming more and more important because
the world is becoming more diverse and we need to be able to
communicate with each other using different languages. Teachers
need to help their students learn these languages. Teachers must use
technology so that the students can participate in activities, learn the
language, and apply the language in everyday life.
