2. WHAT CONTENT IS TAUGHT IN PDHPE ?
The PDHPE syllabus breaks the content down into 5 skill components:
• Moving
• Problem-Solving
• Interacting
• Decision-Making
• Communicating
These 5 components are crucial elements of a child’s development and
are taught at an appropriate level for each child’s ability both
physically and mentally.
3. WHAT CONTENT IS TAUGHT IN PDHPE ?
The syllabus then breaks the content down even further into 8 strands :
• Growth and Development
• Games and Sports
• Gymnastics
• Dance
Each strand is taught in cohesion with the appropriate learning level of
each stage within primary education and are core elements of a child’s
learning and functioning. Ensuring the mental, emotional and physical
wellbeing of each child is the major aim of this content. This content is then
further broken down into specific topics for each strand.

PDHPE ?

influence healthy lifestyles

situations and factors.
• Develop the skills to identify their
strengths and weaknesses.
• Explore changes in the body.
• Explain how positive relationships
are created.
• Identify the importance of
communicating feelings and
needs
• Recognize rights, values and
feelings of others
• Develop problem-solving

• Recognize and accept differences
and henceforth manage conflict
Ideally at the end of this year my (stage 2) year 3 students will have:

throughout the stage 2, year 3 PDHPE syllabus is of great
importance to a child’s development. This development is not just
physical but also mental and emotional.
PDHPE is key to a child's health and maintained wellbeing. It is
crucial that children practice skills to learn, develop and
understand the world and life itself in terms of safe living,
relationships, healthy choices, the body, growth and development,
personal choices and sports and skills.
