IMPORTANCE
PDHPE within Primary Schools is an essential and
important subject. PDHPE concentrates on
developing life skills that can improve the
social, physical, emotional and psychological
attributes of students.
2. PDH IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
OVERVIEW
• “ Personal Development, Health and Physical
Education is one of the six key learning areas
in the NSW primary curriculum.”
• Health is inclusive of all areas in our lives.
Therefore it is a necessary subject within the
Primary Curriculum.
• An understanding is needed for students to
cope with growth and development of their
own bodies and minds.
3. PDHPE:
Interacting, Communicating, and
Attitudes
• Stage 2, Grade 4: Students need PDHPE in
order to learn to make positive contributions
in group settings.
• PDHPE can provide the knowledge and
education to help, accept and understand
others on a deeper level.
• Students move from an egocentric
understanding to discovering empathy and
consideration for others.
4. Health Choices, Active Lifestyles
• Through the education that the PDHPE
curriculum provides students discover how to
eat, play, and learn healthily and safely.
• Students learn how to live actively through
various types of physical activity. Learning
how physical activity effects the body.
• PDHPE can help develop motor skills to help in
all aspects of a student’s life.
5. Growth and Development
• Development and changes in the body become
more obvious to students in stages 2 and 3.
• Students learn how to deal with changes and
limitations of their own bodies through the
education of PDHPE.
• The identification of self for students are
reiterated through the PDHPE syllabus which will
help social and emotional aspects of students
lives in future years.
6. Final Words
• Through the research of the Board of Studies
PDHPE Syllabus. It has been found that PDHPE
can help students in all areas of their
lives, both within and outside school.
