2. A Day To Remember – Right Back At It Again
A day to remember starts the music video in a long shot like the beginning of a
story/ fairy tale with someone holding a book, there is a page turning transition
where the music begins to play. I like the animation in this music video as it
represents the band as being fun – with the use of stop motion animation. The
lyrics are a continuation of City of Ocala, it's further reflection of them
becoming superstars. This one seems to be more of a "screw you" to the people
who told them to get real jobs and grow up. The animation brings a comedic
feel for example, the guitarist riding a wave of spaghetti and smiley face trees
suggests this video is abstract and for everyone to enjoy.
3. Slipknot – The Devil in I
Slipknots music video was uploaded on September 12 and featured the band
members in a mental asylum surrounded by fans covered completely and
dancing in straight jackets while the band performed. I like the visuals as it is a
big shock factor as the band commits suicide in various ways such as Corey
setting a bomb off while he sat at a table, Mick Thomson ripping his face apart,
Sid Wilson eating himself, Craig Jones being locked in an elevator with an
attack dog, Chris Fehn pecked to death by crows, Jim Root blowing himself up
with dynamite, and Shawn Crahan lighting himself on fire and hanging himself.
The video uses very fast cuts in time with the music which gives a kind off
aggressive feel however, I like it because of this reason. The uses of panning
gives the feel like we as the audience are actually in the mental asylum with
the band which I think I a good idea.
The video also features the two new members of the band. They can be seen
roaming throughout the asylum as patients in wheelchairs. This could be to
entice the audience to keep watching to find out who these people are. They're
eventually cornered by the band whom which proceed to stab the new
members. This stabbing could resemble the two new members being "baptized"
into Slipknot. They both appear playing with the band at the song's last chorus,
both wearing uniforms and disguised in identical masks.
4. Justin Bieber – I’ll Show You
Justin Biebers music video starts with a panning up shot to start. I like this
video because of the stunning visuals. It features glacial lagoons and rivers
in South Iceland, including the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss.[29]
The video features Bieber "running through lush, green mountains, sitting
on the edge of a cliff, rolling down hills and skateboarding on top of a
derelict airplane. These locations have also been used to film 2013 Secret
life of Walter Mitty where the visuals are just as good. The transitions are
very smooth which goes with the music video and gives a relaxing vibe to
it. The artist is shown having fun which represents himself as being an fun
and outgoing person. The audience would want to see this as they aspire to
be friends with him/ hang out with him.
The panning shot of all the different locations makes you want to go there
yourself as they are so beautiful. The narrative works with the lyrics ‘I’ll
show you’ as it is like he is showing you round and we are going where he
is going.
