2. TEXTUAL ANALYSIS
Various camera shots used throughout this video, extreme closes up of the
singer Britney Spear's face in-between mid shots of them performing the
routine. Moreover, there are low shots as well including the cast performing
the choreography and looking down at the audience.
There's fast paced transitions to fit with the pace of the music, including a
range of shots to create the flow of the story. Also, the saturation used
portrays more natural lighting, in the school gym there is a more brighter
saturation during the performance.
One key element of mise-en-scene is the clothing, there is a range of outfit
changes in different scenes ranging from a school uniform so sporty clothes;
however to appeal to the audience the outfits are more promiscuous.
Furthermore, the clothing are brighter colours in comparison to the dull
school setting in the background of the music video.
There is a slight relationship with the lyrics and the visuals, as some shots
include her gazing over the boy she likes, fitting into the lyrics. Also, the
school bell ringing in the beginning and the end to remind the audience of
the school environment.

3. REPRESENTATIONS
The main representations are portrayed in this video is age, as it consist of
teenagers in school. This is a stereotypical portrayal towards the audience of
teens in the early 2000's, Britney Spears is generally associated with this
stereotype through their costume and the songs she sung.
Andrew Goodwin's theory can be applied into this video, for example the
constant close up shots of Britney Spears. Moreover, the use of promiscuity
due to the costume used throughout the video. Also, the pop genre of the
music links towards the stereotypical video style as the videos are mainly
performance based, however this video also has an element of narrative with
the longing romance of the two characters. The overall style of the video is
performance based in various locations and choreography in a ensemble and
independent.

5. OPINION
I believe this music video to be one of the iconic videos from the early 2000's,
expressing the stereotype of pop artists as well as teens through the use of the style.
It is a well known music video full of cliche's through the dance sequence and the
lyrics used. Moreover, there are various conventions used to deliver the music
video as well as fitting to the pop genre during this time. It may influence my
work as I might consider the performance style for my video.
