All questions must be completed thoroughly to receive approval for your Senior Project. Some
projects will be submitted to a committee for final approval. This form must be completed and
returned to your senior English teacher by Friday, August 17, 2012. You will not be allowed to
change your topic after October 12, 2012.
The Senior Project is subject to the plagiarism policies set forth by the district and Creekview High
School.
1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
My overall topic for my Senior Project will be the study of shot patterns relating to
various shotgun gauges using different shot size, and to determine the optimal range for each
gauge/shot. Knowing this will give you the upper hand when hunting.
2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
I have had much experience with firing shotguns. I have been hunting multiple times
with my dad. And I have also taken my Hunters’ Safety Course, so I am very aware of all
gun safety.
3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
I can connect my project to any career involving guns.
4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.
I will first take a 12 gauge shot gun and shoot a number eight shot at 10 yards, 20
yards, 30 yards, and 40 yards. This step will be repeated with a 7, 6, and 5 shot. Next I will
repeat the aforementioned process utilizing a 20 gauge. The third step will be the repeating of
the same process using a 410. I will be evaluating the number of shot in a set area to
determine the optimum distance for each shot pattern. I will bring in my actual targets as
my physical product, and I will also include a video of me shooting the different shot
guns.
5) How is this project a “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?
I am learning how the various shot patterns work, as I do not know now, since I am an
amateur hunter.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
I estimate the cost to be around fifty dollars in shot shells.
7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
2. I have considered Bobby Schwartz, Dale Dye, Mike Henson, and Jacob Young.
8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
Each one of the people I am considering is an avid hunter and knows much about guns and
also gun safety.
