3. Man is one of the species who inhabit the earth. He is the only
one who has interfered with various natural processes for use of
both biological & physical resources to meet his multiple
demands, man has polluted all the three realms of the earth-
lithosphere, hydrosphere & atmosphere . It is essential for us to
know about environment & its pollution.
In this presentation we will be able to know about-
•Environment Problems
•It’s Causes
•Effect and Solutions
4. Environmental Problems are harmful aspects of Human
Activity on the Biophysical Environment.
Environmentalism, a social and environmental
movement that started in the 1960s, addresses
environmental issues through advocacy, education and
activism.
Forest Mountains are becoming barren rapidly in the
Jammu region of Jammu & Kashmir. It was greenery in the
hills that comes on the way from Jammu to Katra. But
now the scene has changed due to deforestation, land
sliding and soil erosion are very common these days in
the absence of plant’s roots which hold the soil.
5. The main cause of this is due to illegal cutting of trees and
illegal and uncontrolled mining & other human activities.
It lead to barren land no mountains , no greenery, water
shortage loss of indigenous flora and fauna. The people
would not get local fruits, herbs, medicines & other forest
products.
The local people should be taught their civic rights and
duties. Their duty to rehabiliate their environment and
protect it. The Government should come forward to get
people’s participation in this matter. So that once again the
natural beauty of the region may come in sight
6. Is an unwanted change in the
quality of earth's atmosphere
caused by emission of gases due to
burning of fossil fuel ,
transportation , industrial
institution etc.

10. 1. Sewage :
The household sewage usually is taken to and fall in rivers, large tanks and lakes. Urine
has urea which produces ammonia by hydrolysis. It is also produced by decay of other
nitrogenous substances present in sewage. Thus water gets polluted giving rise to foul
smell and becomes useless for drinking and bathing purposes.
2. Household detergents:
There are such chemicals which are used for washing clothes, clearing bathrooms,
hospitals, etc. These include soaps, surf, nirma, etc. Because they are not completely
oxidized, they produce CO2, alcohol and organic acids which pollute water.
3.Smoke :
Smoke released from industrial plants, fuel and railway engines cause air pollution. Smoke
mostly consists of CO2 and water vapor. Along with these carbon monoxide and other
carbon containing compounds, nitrogen are also present which cause air pollution if their
amount increases. These cause respiratory trouble and ill effects on eye.
11. Adverse air quality can kill many organisms including humans. Environment pollution
can cause respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, throat inflammation, chest pain,
and congestion.
Water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day, mostly due to
contamination of drinking water by untreated sewage in developing countries.
An estimated 700 million Indians have no access to a proper toilet, and 1,000 Indian
children die of diarrhea every day. Nearly 500 million Chinese lack access to safe drinking
water. 656,000 people die prematurely each year in China because of air pollution.
Noise pollution induces hearing loss, high blood pressure, stress, and sleep
disturbance. Mercury has been linked to developmental deficits in children
and neurologic symptoms.
Older people are majorly exposed to diseases induced by air pollution. Those with heart
or lung disorders are under additional risk. Children and infants are also at serious
risk. Lead and other heavy metals have been shown to cause neurological problems.

13. 1. Bring your own bag when you go grocery shopping. Many grocery stores
sell cloth bags, or you can just recycle ones that you already have. You
can buy a cloth bag online if you like, here. They are very sturdy, and hold
as much as the paper or plastic ones do.
2. Increase your awareness of electricity use. Turn off appliances and lights
when they are not in use. Be particularly aware of cable boxes, video
boxes; and to a lesser extent TVs and DVD players. They consume
almost as much energy off as they do when they are on! Anytime an
appliance is off and there is a light, or clock going (like on a microwave)
there is what is called a ghost load. Just unplug it when not in use, or
better yet put it on a power strip with an on/off switch. You'll save energy.
3. Eat less meat. The energy required to produce 1 calorie of beef is 18
TIMES more than that required to make a calorie of wheat. It is
mindboggling; however, if we examine the water required to produce a
pound of beef, it is just over 5200 gallons
14. Plant a tree. Start a garden! Planting a shade tree can significantly impact heating
bills once it reaches maturity. Planting a garden is a joyful activity that cuts down
on the energy needed to get vegetables to your table. If you don't have the room
for a garden, you can always grow sprouts in your house or apartment. They are
one of the most nutritious and easy to grow foods ever, containing not only
essential vitamins and minerals, but also life supporting qualities not readily found
in other foods.
Put less load on your furnace and air conditioner. Either by getting a more efficient
model, or by adjusting the thermostat. And while you're adjusting that thermostat,
don't forget the ones on your hot water heater and the refrigerator. If you want to
really make an impact for years to come, you can receive tax credits for various
other types of improvements to your home's energy efficiency.

16. We know that certain environmental conditions like
air, water,& food are essential for man’s survival. Apart
from their availability their quality & quantity must be
assured according to man's natural & acquired capacity
for sustenance progress in industrialization has
brought environmental hazards such as air water &
noise pollution. These have caused many health
problems & diseases.
As it has been said-
We do not inherit the environment from our
fore fathers, we borrow it from future generation.
