Vietnam Was Mass Murder Of People Of Different...
The only thing American politicians accomplished in Vietnam was mass murder of people of
different socioeconomic ideologies. American politicians told blatant lies told to the American
public, and forced a military draft for an unfavorable war. As a consequence, they quickly lost the
majority of support on the home–front. As time progressed the nationalist Vietnamese would
develop strategies to make most actions by the South Vietnamese and American militaries
ineffective. Their policies of high body counts, napalm, and traditional bombing methods only
caused the deaths of innocent civilians and hundreds of thousands of unnecessary military
casualties. The permanent and semi–permanent destruction of Vietnamese and Cambodian
environments.
According to a detailed and informative book on the Vietnam War by Herring (2002), "from [the
summer on 1972] and on, [both the North Vietnamese and Americans] began inching towards a
comprise". Americans politicians had displayed their willingness to compose a comprise, and had
even let North Vietnamese soldiers stay in South Vietnam after a cease–fire. The Provisional
Revolution Government, composed of the Saigon regime and by the National Liberation Front and
the neutralists, arranged a settlement after cease–fire went into effect. Headed by Henry Kissinger
and Nguy?n Th?, the two worked quickly to create an agreement. However, Kissinger made the
mistakes of deceiving both Vietnamese countries by taking different political

Presidential Job Approval Is A Percentage Based Reading Essay
Brandon Joens – CC9808249 P.S. 103 – Assignment #2 ¬¬¬Presidential Job Approval Presidential
job approval is a percentage–based reading taken from a poll of a sampled group of Americans. The
polling system used to determine this is the Gallup Poll. This poll is widely accepted as accurate
since it first predicted the outcome of the 1936 presidential election. Since that time it has been used
to collect ratings and get a better understanding of the public's true opinion of the president's
performance. It has also brought to light what factors, whether outside or inside the president's
control, affect how the people view his job performance. Some of these factors include scandals,
how well the economy is doing, support during times of crisis or a general level of acceptance
during the first few months of the president's first term. Historically presidents have been held to a
higher moral standard than the rest of the public. This is apparent when a president or some one
close to the president is involved in a unethical or scandalous behavior. President Truman is a good
example of how a series of smaller incidents convinced the American people that he was not doing
his job very well. President Truman experienced a very typical slow downward trend in his approval
ratings from 1945 to 1953. A lot of presidents seem to experience the same trend, however in 1952
his ratings made a final drop to 22%. This drop was due in part to IRS allegations involving bribes
and corruption. The

Interpretation In Ford Madox Ford's The Good Soldier
Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford, narration serves as an imperative framing
mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation necessary for
maintaining the unclarity that pervades John's story. By both subtly positioning the narrator John
Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing the notion of
being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that characterize his
story. Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative, but he also
prompts the reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking the former to
rely on interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing several factors that
distinguish John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion in and knowledge of
the infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective standpoint, and his tendency
to infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this story, Ford employs narration as
the essential mechanism for framing the story.
Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent, adulterous,
behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American who is
merely observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims that the
adulterous affair "is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom, till
today, when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever,"
proceeding to concede that "Six months ago [he] had never been to England" (Ford, 13). That Ford
notes this distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider John
as a relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter's constantly identifying
cultural differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had not even
traveled to England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly frames their
cultural differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham's infidelitous tendencies and Leonora's

Good Morning Midnight By Jean Rhys
Jean Rhys, the author of Good Morning Midnight, wrote about women with sense and sensitivity in
mostly controversial ways. Rhys was born in Dominica in eighteen ninety–four. She came to
England at the age of sixteen and hovered on many jobs before she moved to Paris, where she began
writing and was found by Ford Maddox Ford.
About the essay question and theme, of the representation of women in the city, I believe Rhys
exposes the restrictive attitudes places upon women in the town rather than perpetuating them. Her
novels, often showed women as underdogs out to exploit their sexualities, which shows they were
ahead of their time. Once Good Morning Midnight was written she lived reclusively and was largely
forgotten.
In 'Good Morning Midnight' Sasha's story moves back and forth, her outlook shifting from her time
in London to Paris. She remembers when she was married, to the time she was alone. Her life in
Paris moves between a range of cafes and bars, places where she was known. And some she wants
to stay away from, and areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, 'the woman at the bar gives me one of those looks: what do you want her, you? We
don't cater for tourists here, not our clientele'. This sort of attitude is linked to stereotypes and
prejudice. The barkeeps know nothing of Jensen personally by they automatically calculate the
person she is from the way she appears. This could suggest that Rhys acknowledges that it is not just
men who treat women unequally, but it is also women who degrade one another in the novel too. It
also is a sudden example of female on female hostility. Sternlicht sees that 'women in her earlier
novels are always hostile, and the protagonist is hostile in return or they repress anger or flee in
tears'. (Sternlicht, 98). and throughout the novel in her sour encounters with other women, the reader

Analysis Of George W. Bush 's Leadership Style Essay
I. Deliberation v. Decisiveness: Comparing Management Styles
The course of a presidency is shaped by decisions made before inauguration day. The choices a
president–elect makes when staffing their White House determines how they will use the precious
time they will spend in the Oval Office. The management style of a president is a function of the
president's personality with consequences for the future of the country. George W. Bush and Barack
Obama are different men who constructed for themselves distinctly different White Houses, each
with their own priorities, strengths, and weaknesses.
George W. Bush prided himself on his decisiveness. Bush's management style was structured around
a desire to preserve the time of the president and produce swift action. Bush's management style was
a product of his past experiences as a former governor of Texas and business executive and his
business school education. His life experiences had taught him to delegate and trust the abilities of
his immediate subordinates. (Allen & Broder, 2004) Joe Allbaugh, a top aide and 2000 campaign
director, described Bush as the "best one–minute manager" and a "fantastic delegator." (Public
Broadcasting Service, 2004) President Bush once described his own decision making style by
stating "I'm not a textbook player. I am a gut player." (Pfiffner 2011, 249) This preference was
reflected in the way his White House organized his access to information.
The Bush White House, while not built around a

The 1960s Of The 70s
Ever wonder what it's like to be back in the 70s? Well I certainly do! Every decade has a special
significant and I believe that we should learn about it. In the 1970s, it was a time period filled with
equality fighting, freedom opportunity, change, and war. One interesting fact that I noticed in the
70s is that it is a continuation of the 60s. During this decade, women continued to fight for their
equality and Americans joined the protest against the Vietnam War that was going on during this
time. The 1970s was a time of great change. Some of these great changes had to deal with the
fashion industries, technologies, and even transportation. Not only that, but in the 70s, types of
music 's changed and so did art. For example, there was an increase in Installation Art during this
time period. Even though the 1970s had great changes that improved the world, it also had some of
its downfalls. In the political area, Nixon, as a president during this time, caused destruction. In
addition, during this decade, there were several assassination attempts on presidents and it was also
the beginning on terrorists. It is important for people to learn details about past decades. To truly
understand about the 70s, you must know and learn the history, politics, fashion, music, important
people, and sports. Under politics and history, Richard Nixon would be considered as an important
person. Under Nixon's control, he immediately orders a U.S. invasion of Cambodia. After his

The Legalization Of Illegal Drugs
Before President Richard Nixon declared drug abuse as America's number one public enemy in
1971, the United States already had a long history of combating the use of illegal drugs. The first of
its kind was the legislation that passed in San Francisco in 1875. This newly passed legislation
banned the smoking of opium. However, this legislation seemed to be racially motivated. San
Francisco citizens believed that Chinese men who resided in the community, and who were highly
regarded as opium smokers, would lure women into opium dens and take advantage of them. In
1909, the United States Congress passed a federal ban on opium. Afterwards, the government began
to target cocaine as well. Much like opium, the use of cocaine was also racially ... Show more

Since 1971, one trillion dollars have been poured into the War on Drugs. While this is more than
enough money to provide the resources necessary to at least put a dent in the supply and demand for
drugs, it has produced relatively no positive results. Instead, it has produced racial disparities
throughout the entire country. Although white people abuse drugs at a rate that significantly higher
than the abuse rates of African Americans, African Americans are arrested at a rate that is ten times
higher than that of their white counterparts (Gupta). Many have begun to question if this war is
against drugs, or people of color. It seems as if everybody is aware of the racial bias except the
elected officials. In March of 2016, a twenty–two year old interview with President Nixon's
domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman was discovered. In the interview, he said that Nixon created
the War on Drugs as a way to politically fight African Americans and hippies (Lobianco). In the
interview, Ehrlichman states, "You understand what I 'm saying? We knew we couldn 't make it
illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with
marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those
communities" (LoBianco).

The Crucible Character Analysis
Liam Ryan Mr. Healy Eng 2. Honors The Crucible Arthur Miller The main character, John Proctor
proves himself an honest, level headed, dignified man who is broken down but never lets go of his
name showing that his reputation is more important than his life. For example, he cannot escape the
adultery he committed with Abigail. Proctor tries to ignore this, but during the trials, Proctor realizes
that the only way to stop Abigail would be to confess his adultery. Proctor cannot ruin his
reputation, he wants to maintain his dignity, however, as the trails begin to lead to more and more
deaths, Proctor has no choice. Furthermore, after he is thrown in jail, he continues go down a
downward spiral. Proctor is forced to admit working with Satan to save himself and others that will

when given a paper to sign, Proctor cannot sign it. Although he gave up his soul, his name is all he

Richard Nixon Was The Last Liberal Era
It can be argued that Richard Nixon was the last liberal president and that his presidency ushered in
a conservative era. Both of these arguments are true, however I believe it is more correct to say that
his presidency marked a new conservative era. During his time in office, Nixon expanded Great
Society legislation, created new and significant federal agencies, and his foreign policy with
communism emphasized détente. However, he did not always agree with the liberal ideologies that
he was implementing and, in regards to the anti–war protestors, his administration showed little
concern for civil liberties. In comparison to the administrations that followed, he was much more
liberal and was the last president to significantly increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Social conservatism generally favors traditional, pro–family values, such as opposition to abortion
and same sex marriage. Richard Nixon's campaign echoed many aspects of the conservative
language of the time, but ultimately his presidency was liberal, as he subscribed to liberal
tendencies, such as broadening social programs and the influence of the federal government. He did
not battle the Democrats, who held congress, on domestic issues and even expanded components of
President Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society. Instead of curtailing the federal government's role,
Nixon created new agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board. His administration poured
money into social services and environmental initiatives, expanded the food stamp program, and
allowed Social Security to expand with inflation. Numerous acts were passed such as the
Endangered Species Act and the Clean Air Act. His commitment to protecting the environmental
ostracized businesses, natural allies of conservative ideologies, who deemed these regulations
burdensome. Nixon broke the mold of conservative politics further by presenting a Family
Assistance Plan that would guarantee a minimum income for all Americans and by pursuing
affirmative action programs to "upgrade minority employment". The Family Assistance Plan did not

Tinker V. Des Moines Independent Community School District
Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, 393 U.S. 503 (1969) was a decision
by the United States Supreme Court that defined the constitutional rights of students in U.S. public
schools. The Tinker test is still used by courts today to determine whether a school 's disciplinary
actions violate students ' First Amendment rights. The principal of the Des Moines schools learned of
the plan and met on December 14 to create a policy that stated that school children wearing an
armband would be asked to remove it immediately. Violating students would be suspended and
allowed to return to school after agreeing to comply with the policy. The participants decided to
violate this policy. Mary Beth Tinker and Christopher Eckhardt were suspended from school for
wearing the armbands on December 16 and John Tinker was suspended for doing the same on the
following day. (The two youngest participants were not punished.) Mary Beth, Christopher, and
John were suspended from school until after January 1, 1966, when their protest had been scheduled

The Unreliable Narrator In Ford's The Good Soldier
The subject of The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford is good people. The theme of the novel is that
truly good people do not exist; any who claim to be are hiding sordid motives and problematic
passions behind the façade of being a good person. Literary forms that support this theme are point
of view, tone, characterization, and irony.
The point of view The Good Soldier is told from the limited first person perspective of John Dowell,
who is an unreliable narrator. Backpack Literature describes an unreliable narrator as "a narrator
who–intentionally or unintentionally–relates events in a subjective or distorted manner" (Kennedy
60). As a reader, it is difficult to decipher whether Dowell is hopelessly naive and socially inept or a
master manipulator, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The insincerity stems primarily from the unreliable nature of the narrator and the impassivity from
the casual conveyance of the story and the narrator's revelations. Although the subtitle claims it to be
"A Tale of Passion," the tone of the novel lacks empathy and passion from the storytelling. Dowell
uses hyperbole and attempts to play up hysterics to no avail. The bland, impassive narration of
otherwise dramatic events and characters create a dichotomy, which gives the tale a sarcastic
attitude. This is used when Dowell is attempting to show Captain Ashburnham in a good light, but
instead reveals his infidelities and naïve

you are instantly popular. My name was posted on the short list in the hall next to my homeroom

the same dance group. Even though we are only sophomores we are put into the Senior Dance
Group A. This group just happens to be the best dance group at Riverview. We have been informed
that we will be in the group that gets to perform at the Inaugural Parade if we make it through the
cuts for the Parade. Six months later, I was walking to first period when I am called to the office. All
the Kilties in Senior Dance Group A were called. We were confused until we found out about "The
Letter." "The Letter" stated that we were going to the Presidential Inaugural Parade. We are
performing in front of President Reagan LIVE! Theresa and I already have room assignment in the
hotel. Since we are going to D.C. alone without our parents we are told to stick together like glue.
The next day, I am so excited because I turn 16 in three days and I'm throwing a mega party! We
have a DJ coming to play the latest tunes. I'm finally going to be considered old enough to take care
of myself, which means I can date! Unfortunately, I still have a curfew around 10 or 10:30 on the

The President Of The United States
The United States first declared its independence back in 1776. Just a decade later, the Constitution
was written and signed on September 17, 1787. To this day, this document represents the supreme
law of the United States of America. The first President of the United States was elected on
February 4th in 1789. His name of course was George Washington. This was the start of the United
States, since then we have had 43 other presidents. Each and every one of those presidents has done
something for our country. Whether good or bad, effective or not very effective this is how our
country has become what it is today. Since WWII, the United States has had 12 different Presidents
that have led our nation and looked over significant events and decisions that have shaped this
country. Harry S. Truman was the 33rd president from 1945 to 1953. Under Truman's presidency the
Germans surrendered on May 8, 1945. Truman was also the president who made possibility the
biggest decision of any presidency. Which was the dropping of the most terrible weapon ever known

Analysis Of The Video Lecture On America 's Legal History

history, there has never been a situation where the judicial and legislative branches faced the
president with a writ to provide evidence that could be valuable in a criminal case. In essence, this
Supreme Court case tackles the political principle of "separation of powers," which represents the
foundation of the American federal system. President Nixon possessed secret audio recordings of
several meetings with the top members of his administration, and a special prosecutor appointed by
Nixon investigated this cover–up. Nixon refused to comply with a subpoena that ordered him to

Also, the House of Representatives and Senate have the power to bring in the impeachment charges

Andrew Johnson was impeached because he was not able to adhere to regulations which banned

Essay Characterization in The Good Soldier
In The Good Soldier, Ford Maddox Ford does not fully develop any of the characters. The reader is
intended to use the narrator Dowell's disconnected and inaccurate impressions to build a more
complete version of who the characters are, as well as form a more accurate view of what actually
happens with "the sad affair" (Ford 9) of Dowell's pathetic life. This use of a single character's
various perceptions creates a work that follows the style of literary impressionism, which, to some
extent, should be only a series of personal impressions that culminates in the portrayal of reality as
"a subjective experience" (van Gunsteren 239). This very subjectivity of reality is clearly evident in
Dowell's perception of other people and events. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also says that her heart had made him lead the life "of the sedulous, strained nurse" (13),
constantly needing to watch her and protect her from anything that might possibly excite her or
cause damage to her heart. While this apparently constrictive relationship could be construed as
irritating, Dowell does not seem to have any objection to the role Florence has given him, even
when he later realizes that she had faked her heart condition to manipulate him. For the most part,
Florence even inspires some degree of pity in him, and she often becomes "poor dear Florence" (12)
in his mind. That he is capable of pity for such a manipulative person is only explained by his
oblivious nature. This particular version of Florence shows the full extent of his lack of
understanding as he attempts to explain things to himself. It also shows the degree of his gullibility.
Dowell also describes Florence as weak and simple–minded, saying that "she was bright and she
danced" (17). This portrays Florence as an essentially superficial person. However, this
superficiality does not really say anything directly about Florence, but illustrates what Thomas C.
Moser phrases as "Dowell's conviction of the meaninglessness of existence" (Moser 354). Dowell's

The Bill Of Rights Of The United States
The Bill of Rights was passed because concepts such as freedom of religion, speech, equal
treatment, and due process of law were deemed so important that, barring a Constitutional
Amendment, not even a majority should be allowed to change them. Rule of law is a principle under
which all persons, institutions, and entities are accountable to laws that are: publicly promulgated,
equally enforced, independently adjudicated, and consistent with international human rights
principles. The United States, as a democratic republic, derives ultimate authority and power from
the citizens and runs the government through elected officials. Our elected officials follow the same
rule of law as the people they govern, and it is the electorate's hope that the laws they enforce are
inevitably followed. However, this is not always the case, and during the thirty–seventh presidency
of the United States, the people's trust of our executive office was shaken by a corrupt Nixon
administration and its scandalous ways.
On June 17,1972, American politics changed forever, leaving many Americans questioning their
leaders and looking deeper into the presidency of their country. That Saturday morning, several

New Deal And Social Security
New Deal and Social security: Before the 1930's, the care for the elderly was of family or local
concern. Following the economic crash of the Great Depression, some of the many "dangers" in life,
including poverty, unemployment, and old age, were faced head on through the actions of the New
Deal. The New Deal, created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, set up a series of domestic
programs to decrease unemployment rates and salvage what was left of the economy. The poverty
rate of the elderly exceeded 50 percent and the stock market crash destroyed many Americans
savings, thus the Social Security Act was created. This act provided aid to dependent children,
unemployment and disability insurance, and pensions for the elderly. An issue with this system was
that it might seem like a welfare program rather than an insurance program. To combat this issue,
the social security funds would be from payroll taxes from employers and workers. Younger
generations would finance the fund and would benefit from the system once they turned 65.
Although this was a much–needed system, especially after the Great Depression, many still opposed
this idea. People argued that this act would cause a loss of jobs and that it reeked of socialism. The
argument was rebutted when proponents of the act proved how it would act as an incentive for the
elderly to retire, thus creating more job openings for younger generations. A major downfall of this
act rested on the shoulders of the women and

Modernist Movement in Ford's Good Soldier and Woolf's...
Ford Madox Ford and Virginia Woolf were major contributors to the modernist movement. They, as
well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the boundaries
of traditional writing. Ford's Good Soldier and Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway are two particular examples
of the genre. These novels were not well–received in their own time. As time went on, however, the
attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really
are – exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit.
The Good Soldier was first published in 1915. Rebecca West penned a promising review for the
year, ending with "Indeed, this is a much, much better book than any of us deserve" (40). ... Show

He questions Dowell's mental balance because he degrades Florence, his wife, for her indiscretions.
Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as "good people." He
also wonders at "the meaning of the narrator's nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the
way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion"(46).
If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons
why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully
processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously wants to
continue thinking highly of Ashburnham the "good soldier," and this completes John's psychological
quandary. At the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and his essay appears
to understand the deliberate complexities of the novel.
Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, "the breakup of civilization itself, heading
toward disaster" (53). Even while the quartet is falling apart, however, they still put on the
proverbial brave face and, to all outward appearances, are just fine. This can be applied to the world
at large. Ford also exposes the evil kernel within the hearts of mankind. To others, these are "good
people," but they hold

Chapter 25 of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
In the twenty–fifth chapter of his novel The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck presents the reader
with a series of vivid images, accompanied by a series of powerful indictments. Steinbeck
effectively uses both the potent imagery and clear statements of what he perceives as fact to convey
his message. This short chapter offers a succinct portrayal of one of the major themes of the larger
work. Namely, the potential bounty of nature corrupted and left to rot by a profit–driven system, a
system that ultimately fails.
Steinbeck begins the chapter with the simple statement, "The spring is beautiful in California" (p.

32). Spring is how Steinbeck has chosen to begin this chapter and, though it is not an "everlasting
spring," this Californian spring resembles Ovid's Golden Age. Just as Ovid's ages of the world
degenerate into baser and baser metals, so Steinbeck's California degenerates from springtime of
bounty to a harvest–time of fruit rotting on the ground.
Continuing to contrast Ovid and Steinbeck another difference becomes apparent. In Ovid's Golden
Age the earth is bountiful without the interference of humans. Ovid says, "The earth itself, without
compulsion, untouched by the hoe ... produced all things spontaneously, and men were content with
foods that grew without cultivation" (p. 32). Steinbeck's Californian Eden comes about in vastly
different manner. Steinbeck states, "Behind the fruitfulness are men of understanding and
knowledge and skill" (p. 346). These men manipulate the earth, experimenting with seeds and roots,
seeking to make plants resilient to all manners of pest and blight. Others, "men of chemistry," devise
chemical sprays to kills insects, and "cut out disease and rots, mildews and sicknesses" (p. 346).
There are still others. "Doctors of preventative medicine," surgeons, and border guards, all of whom
are attempting to increase the yield and bounty of the earth. No,

The Contemporary Advocates Of Liberalism
In the thoughts of the contemporary advocates of Liberalism, one of the most noticeable and
extensive accomplishments of the Early Modern time period is the expression, protection, and
justification of civil liberties including the ability to run for and attain office. From the seventeenth
century to present day, a number of distinct argumentative policies and approaches have been
established in order to defend the common civilian's ability to attain political office. Over the past
several decades, great advancements have been made in order to allow minorities and even females
to run for office. Politics and religion are two of the toughest matters to deliberate with people of
any area. The only item more problematic to have a heart–to–heart about than politics and religion is
the practice of taking religious means and interpretations into the political jurisdiction. Some of the
most controversial and newest topics in present–day society are those that are deeply affected by
religious means such as abortion, legalization of same sex marriage, and warfare. Richard Rorty and
Alan Stout have very conflicting views over when and if it is socially acceptable to bring religion
into a discussion over public concerns. Although neither philosopher prohibits the practice of
religious support in an argument, Rorty believes that using religion in the conversation dealing with
public concern is ignorant, senseless, and irresponsible.1 Rorty believes that religious reasoning is

Nixon 's Presidency A Period Wrought With Scandal
Nixon's presidency–a period wrought with scandal. The most well–known of these, Watergate, a
complex web of deceit, has become a political term synonymous with corruption and crime. Afraid
of possible defeat in the 1972 election, Nixon and his republican associates sanctioned underhanded,
illegal, acts, namely a break–in at the Democratic Party national headquarters at the Watergate
complex. The break–in failed and the story was revealed to the public, despite the Nixon
administration's attempts to cover up the scandal. As a result of their insistence on covering up the
infamous event, the leadership of the United States was sent spiraling into a mess of treachery and
dishonesty, threatening both the nation's stability and future. Beginning the night of June 16, 1972,
and continuing on into the wee hours of the morning on June 17, Nixon and his seven associate–
burglars–G. Gordan Liddy, E. Howard Hunt, James McCord, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez,
Eugenio Martinez, and Frank Sturgis–attempted to break in to the Watergate complex in
Washington, D.C., headquarters of the Democratic National Committee, with the intent to use phone
bugs and photos to provide Nixon, a Republican, with information that would hopefully secure him
the victory in the 1972 presidential election (Anderson 8–10). To begin, the burglars placed tape on
stairway doors, preventing them from locking, allowing them to make an easy exit, the first of many

The Watergate Scandal
The Watergate Scandal stands as one of the most heinous out brakes in United States History. As
described in this article "The scandal had revealed to voters not only the abuse of power of the
Nixon administration, but a political culture of corruption , viciousness and double–dealing that
shocked the public" (Government). Not only did this scandal impact the trust of many Americans
but it inspired a renowned artisan, Stevie Wonder! Due to Richard Nixon's scandalous actions,
Stevie came up with an inspired song called "You Haven't Done Nothin'."This song speaks strongly
about Richard Nixon in a harmonious tune that can catch any ones attention. This event in history
played a magnificent role in politics and in the trust we have for our executive power.
Despite the fact that Stevie Wonder is blind do to a premature birth incident, he has learned to
perfect a numerous amount of musical instruments. "He also bounces from piano to drums to
synthesizer" (UXL). Proving as being a skilled composer and musician, Stevie is also very involved
in politics. "Over the years Wonder also became progressively more involved in politics"
(DISCovering). As proven you can quite tell that Stevie is an energetic and active artist who is very
patriotic. You can basically say that Wonder is an inspiring man. "He has inspired a new generation

Watergate
"Watergate" is a term used to describe a complex web of political scandals occurring between 1972
and 1974.
Although twenty–five years has passed since the notorious President Nixon resigned from office, the
infamous legacy left by Richard Nixon and his administration will never be forgotten, leaving the
American people with distrust among Politicians and disrespect for the American Presidency. In
August 1968, Nixon stated at a Republican convention, "America is in trouble today not because her
people have failed but because her leaders have failed (Porter, 206)." This ironic quote foreshadows
the demise and corruption of one of the most controversial presidents, Richard Millhouse Nixon.

Nixon was worried about the break–in, he advised the White House press secretary, Ron Ziegler, to
dismiss the incident as "a third–rate burglary" (Anson, 107). In the years ensuing the invasion at the
Watergate building, questions and controversy have surfaced consequent to whether or not the White
House, under the control of President Nixon, was either directly or discursively involved in the
planning or performing of any illegal deeds. As the Watergate scandal unfolded, the Nixon
administration was quick to mitigate the responsibility for the occurrences, however, in actuality,
numerous facts and particulars ascertain White House involvement and justify the repercussions
(Spear, 58).
The arrests of the "Watergate Seven" eventually uncovered a "White House–sponsored plan of
espionage against political opponents and a trail of complicity that led to many of the highest
officials in the land" (Emergy, 11"). These high political executives included former United States
Attorney General John Mitchell, White House Counsel John Dean, White House Special Assistant
on Domestic Affairs John Ehrlichman, White House Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman, and President
Nixon himself. Evidence corroborating White House involvement was ample and immense. On

The National Security Act of 1947 centralized command and promoted intelligence sharing between
institutions by establishing a Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of Central
Intelligence, and NSC. The President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the
Army, Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Air Force, and Chairman of the National Security
Resources Board composed the original statutory members of the NSC. The President was also
authorized to designate other specified officials to the NSC. The NSC staff, which is separate from
"the Council," comprises politically appointed individuals and civil servants organized in
specialized directorates. The primary function of the NSC is to advise the President on "domestic,
foreign, and military policies relating to the national security." The NSC acts as a coordinator
between departments and agencies across government, and relies on accurate and insightful reports
from them to develop national security policy recommendations for the President. The NSC is
unique because it both consumes intelligence to make recommendations to the President, and guides
intelligence activities by coordinating policies across government. In 1949, the NSC reorganized to
incorporate the Vice President, Secretary of the Treasury, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as
remove the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force from the Council. President Harry Truman

What Makes Your Friend's Dreams Come True?
There are not many better feelings in life than making one of your dreams come true. However, I
have found that making one of your friend's dreams come true can be even more rewarding. My
friend Ryan and I have always shared a passion for cars and trucks. We have spent many hours lying
under, on top of and inside of our own vehicles trying to fix and modify them to better suit our needs
and make them truly unique. After rolling his last vehicle, a heavily modified 1996 Toyota 4Runner
meant for off–roading, he was looking for a new project. He spent over a year trying to find the
perfect truck, but never could find the right vehicle. His neighbor ended up offering him a great deal
on a 2000 Ford F–350 with the beloved 7.3L Powerstroke diesel, for a price he couldn't pass up.
This is where the adventure began.
Ryan was never a huge Ford fan and contemplated selling the truck almost immediately. The
mechanic who performed the inspection the day after he had purchased the truck offered him 30
percent more money than he had payed. However after some convincing on my part he decided to
keep it for awhile. Ryan and I spent a lot of time discussing which way he wanted to go with the
modifications to the truck, it seemed like every week he wanted to do something different. He
decided to add on the modifications that he knew he would be performing either direction he ended
up going with the truck. We added on a new bumper, grille and headlights from the newer body style
trucks and had

Essay on The Presidency of Gerald R. Ford
The Presidency of Gerald R. Ford Gerald R. Ford was the 38th President of the United States, after
gaining the position through extraordinary circumstances. His good will and friendly demeanor
helped him climb the political ladder higher than even he had anticipated. His career in politics
began with his law firm, yet ended up in the oval office. While his presidency was short lived, it is
remembered due to numerous crucial decisions he had to make. After graduating from Yale with a
law degree in 1941, Gerald R. Ford returned to his home town of Grand Rapids Michigan to start a

As a matter of fact, his route to the presidency was more circumstantial than intentional. In 1973,
Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned from office due to a kick–back scandal ("Gerald R. Ford

knowing that Ford's reputation in Congress would make him the only candidate both houses and
parties would accept. As the vice president, Ford was not very active. Even more so, he intentionally
chose to stay out of the way; perhaps because he did not want to be associated with the actions and
policies of the Nixon administration. Next, as is popular knowledge, President Nixon resigned after
the Watergate scandal came to light, leaving Ford to become the President. Gerald R. Ford was
sworn in on August 9, 1974, as the United State's 38th president. In his inauguration speech, Ford
was open about the bizarre circumstances that led to him holding the position. He acknowledged to
the people that he was not chosen by them for the job as President. He continues to say, "If you have
not chosen me by secret ballot, neither have I gained office by any secret promises. I have not
campaigned either for the Presidency or the Vice Presidency. I have not subscribed to any partisan
platform." He spoke these words to show the public–who were skeptical of all politicians after the

Shelby had a vision to create a high performance Mustang and Shelby wanted a car that could hold
its own both on and off the track. Once Shelby received approval to move forward on the project, he
created a fastback 2+2 Mustang (Kelly). This model Mustang only had front bucket seats and a

And some she wants

person she is from the way she appears.

Medical Marijuana Laws: How have they changed over the past One Hundred Years in the U.S?
Medical marijuana has many positive uses as medicine and healing illnesses for humans backdating
to 2900 B.C. From the 1900s laws have been placed banning the use of marijuana tied to other
issues like prostitution, gambling, alcohol, and sex. Today in 2015, 23 states have legalized
marijuana with laws underlying. It has been an ongoing battle whether medical marijuana should be

In the 1800's marijuana was sold in the drugstores and was used to treat migraines and menstrual
cramps. In the early 1900s some states required you to have a prescription for the medical use of
marijuana. By the 1930's marijuana was being tied with criminal cases being the lead cause of the
crime. In the 1960–70's Congress with Richard Nixon as President passed the Controlled Substances
Act classifying marijuana as a drug with a "high potential for abuse" and "no currently accepted
medical use" (Bronner, 2013). Heroin was a heavy problem in the early 70's and in President
Nixon's defense to stop it he banned the use of all drugs. In these same years that the law was passed

impression that this English novelist and poet was a very versatile writer. This interpretation can be
substantiated in this synthesis through the following three categories: biography, literary life, and

Wimbledon in England. Ford was the eldest of three children of Catherine Madox Brown and
Francis Hueffer. By profession, his mother Catherine Madox Brown was a painter and his father

in 1889 and after the death of his father, Ford's family was left in economic crises. So, Ford and his
younger brother Oliver had to move London to live with their grandfather and receive further

policy of isolation and containment in place, America soon became even more powerful and
wealthier.

Cheap labour from an influx in immigrants helped the idea of mass production and the increase in
factories and new industry.
It was not only the car industry that expanded during the 1920s. With the help of the motor car
industry, other industries started to grow, including the steel, rubber, glass, leather and oil industry.
The construction industry grew due to the increase in traffic on the roads. Other consumer goods
used the idea of mass production, causing a 'boom' in the economy; radio sets, telephones,
refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, washing machines and ovens were all being rapidly manufactured to
serve the needs of the public. These new goods were 'attractive' to the Americans, resulting in sales

paying for it in instalments over a certain period of time. Mail order also increased the market for
goods into the more remote areas of America. Also, throughout the 1920s there was a great feeling

A Core Element Of The Film Western
A core element of the film western is the struggle between the civilizing forces of society and the
resistance of the wilderness. This has been used as a common thematic element in the narrative
structure of Westerns, and can be seen in the films' portrayal of society's expansion to the west. In
these films, this expansion, which is a part of the movement to tame the Wild West, is a conflict that
is played out as a battle of oppositions on the American frontier. In director John Ford's My Darling
Clementine, this fundamental aspect of the genre comes across in the main character, Wyatt Earp's,
conflict with the Clanton family, whom the audience ultimately finds out are the ones who shot and
killed the youngest Earp brother. While Wyatt Earp's status as the town marshal symbolizes the
civility and order of society, the Clantons–a violent, uncivilized family in which the father uses
primitive methods of discipline, such as whipping, against his own four sons–represent the
wilderness of the untamed West. The symbolic importance of the characters in My Darling
Clementine is also connected to Ford's use of setting and locale. Given the manner in which Wyatt
Earp enters the town and sets about bringing justice to it, his character can be seen as the
embodiment of the process of civilization of the West. From a cinematographic standpoint, the shots
of locations within the town differ from those of the wilderness beyond the town site. The film

Mrs. Dalloway Mental Illness
Both settings in the The Good Soldier and Mrs. Dalloway take place in the early 1900's. This a time
in which patriarchy and conservative ideals rule. The authors of the novels, Ford Madox Ford and
Virginia Woolf, create characters that oppose such standards. They battle mental illness, extramarital
temptation and economic disabilities, thus leading to an interesting development in the personalities,
thoughts, and actions of such characters like, Edward Ashburnham, Florence Dowell, Clarissa
Dalloway and Septimus. .
Characters in both The Good Soldier and Mrs. Dalloway are deeply affected by mental illness at a
time in which such ailments weren't recognized as a real health issue. Due to this mark of shame that
followed mental illness, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The issue of unequal health care is specifically highlighted between the two novels, The Good
Soldier and Mrs. Dalloway. In The Good Soldier, doctors recommend that the the very wealthy
Edward Ashburnham and Florence Dowell visit luxurious spas to treat their fictitious heart
problems. Edward uses such heart problems to escape from the military while Florence's uses hers
to distance herself John. These two characters selfishly abuse the opportunities provided to them
whereas Septimus and LuCrezia desperately search for any sort of mental illness treatment in Mrs.
Dalloway. Unlike Edward and Florence, the couple is left very few options to treat Septimus's shell
shock. They ultimately find help in Dr. Holmes and Sir William Bradshaw. While it unclear whether
or not Sir William Bradshaw could have effectively treated Septimus or not, the reader has evidence
to how harmful Dr. Holmes is, as seen when he practically scared Septimus into killing himself.
This all may have been avoided if Septimus and LuCrezia had the same access to outstanding
medical treatment as Edward and Florence did. All in all, Characters in The Good Soldier take
advantage of exceptional medical services for imaginary ailments while sickly and underprivileged
people like Septimus are left to their own devices . All of this is made possible by the vast chasm of
wealth that separates the rich and poor throughout the

Vietnam Was Mass Murder Of People Of Different...

  • 1. Vietnam Was Mass Murder Of People Of Different... The only thing American politicians accomplished in Vietnam was mass murder of people of different socioeconomic ideologies. American politicians told blatant lies told to the American public, and forced a military draft for an unfavorable war. As a consequence, they quickly lost the majority of support on the home–front. As time progressed the nationalist Vietnamese would develop strategies to make most actions by the South Vietnamese and American militaries ineffective. Their policies of high body counts, napalm, and traditional bombing methods only caused the deaths of innocent civilians and hundreds of thousands of unnecessary military casualties. The permanent and semi–permanent destruction of Vietnamese and Cambodian environments. According to a detailed and informative book on the Vietnam War by Herring (2002), "from [the summer on 1972] and on, [both the North Vietnamese and Americans] began inching towards a comprise". Americans politicians had displayed their willingness to compose a comprise, and had even let North Vietnamese soldiers stay in South Vietnam after a cease–fire. The Provisional Revolution Government, composed of the Saigon regime and by the National Liberation Front and the neutralists, arranged a settlement after cease–fire went into effect. Headed by Henry Kissinger and Nguy?n Th?, the two worked quickly to create an agreement. However, Kissinger made the mistakes of deceiving both Vietnamese countries by taking different political ... • 3. Presidential Job Approval Is A Percentage Based Reading Essay Brandon Joens – CC9808249 P.S. 103 – Assignment #2 ¬¬¬Presidential Job Approval Presidential job approval is a percentage–based reading taken from a poll of a sampled group of Americans. The polling system used to determine this is the Gallup Poll. This poll is widely accepted as accurate since it first predicted the outcome of the 1936 presidential election. Since that time it has been used to collect ratings and get a better understanding of the public's true opinion of the president's performance. It has also brought to light what factors, whether outside or inside the president's control, affect how the people view his job performance. Some of these factors include scandals, how well the economy is doing, support during times of crisis or a general level of acceptance during the first few months of the president's first term. Historically presidents have been held to a higher moral standard than the rest of the public. This is apparent when a president or some one close to the president is involved in a unethical or scandalous behavior. President Truman is a good example of how a series of smaller incidents convinced the American people that he was not doing his job very well. President Truman experienced a very typical slow downward trend in his approval ratings from 1945 to 1953. A lot of presidents seem to experience the same trend, however in 1952 his ratings made a final drop to 22%. This drop was due in part to IRS allegations involving bribes and corruption. The ... • 5. Interpretation In Ford Madox Ford's The Good Soldier Within the novel The Good Soldier, by Ford Madox Ford, narration serves as an imperative framing mechanism for propelling the plot of the story, while also generating the fragmentation necessary for maintaining the unclarity that pervades John's story. By both subtly positioning the narrator John Dowell as an outsider relative to the other characters, and consequently emphasizing the notion of being outside, Ford facilitates a pointillistic representation of the infidelities that characterize his story. Not only does Ford distance Dowell from the other characters in his narrative, but he also prompts the reader to reject John as an omnipotent, reliable source, thereby provoking the former to rely on interpretation as the primary means for finding resolution. Emphasizing several factors that distinguish John from the other characters, such as his nationality, his inclusion in and knowledge of the infidelitous relationships, his personality type, his future reflective standpoint, and his tendency to infuse his current attitudes and nostalgia into his retelling of this story, Ford employs narration as the essential mechanism for framing the story. Initially denoting both his position as an outsider, and his efforts to justify the abhorrent, adulterous, behavior of Edward Ashburnham and Florence, Dowell frames himself as an American who is merely observing British culture. While establishing himself within his story, Dowell claims that the adulterous affair "is, I believe, a state of things only possible with English people of whom, till today, when I sit down to puzzle out what I know of this sad affair, I knew nothing whatever," proceeding to concede that "Six months ago [he] had never been to England" (Ford, 13). That Ford notes this distinction on the first page of the narrative forces the reader to immediately consider John as a relative outsider in the story, a notion that is compounded by the latter's constantly identifying cultural differences between himself and the Ashburnhams. By conceding that he had not even traveled to England prior to his experience with the Ashburnhams, Dowell implicitly frames their cultural differences as responsible for Edward Ashburnham's infidelitous tendencies and Leonora's ... • 7. Good Morning Midnight By Jean Rhys Jean Rhys, the author of Good Morning Midnight, wrote about women with sense and sensitivity in mostly controversial ways. Rhys was born in Dominica in eighteen ninety–four. She came to England at the age of sixteen and hovered on many jobs before she moved to Paris, where she began writing and was found by Ford Maddox Ford. About the essay question and theme, of the representation of women in the city, I believe Rhys exposes the restrictive attitudes places upon women in the town rather than perpetuating them. Her novels, often showed women as underdogs out to exploit their sexualities, which shows they were ahead of their time. Once Good Morning Midnight was written she lived reclusively and was largely forgotten. In 'Good Morning Midnight' Sasha's story moves back and forth, her outlook shifting from her time in London to Paris. She remembers when she was married, to the time she was alone. Her life in Paris moves between a range of cafes and bars, places where she was known. And some she wants to stay away from, and areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, 'the woman at the bar gives me one of those looks: what do you want her, you? We don't cater for tourists here, not our clientele'. This sort of attitude is linked to stereotypes and prejudice. The barkeeps know nothing of Jensen personally by they automatically calculate the person she is from the way she appears. This could suggest that Rhys acknowledges that it is not just men who treat women unequally, but it is also women who degrade one another in the novel too. It also is a sudden example of female on female hostility. Sternlicht sees that 'women in her earlier novels are always hostile, and the protagonist is hostile in return or they repress anger or flee in tears'. (Sternlicht, 98). and throughout the novel in her sour encounters with other women, the reader see's Jansen's prosperity in all three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Analysis Of George W. Bush 's Leadership Style Essay I. Deliberation v. Decisiveness: Comparing Management Styles The course of a presidency is shaped by decisions made before inauguration day. The choices a president–elect makes when staffing their White House determines how they will use the precious time they will spend in the Oval Office. The management style of a president is a function of the president's personality with consequences for the future of the country. George W. Bush and Barack Obama are different men who constructed for themselves distinctly different White Houses, each with their own priorities, strengths, and weaknesses. George W. Bush prided himself on his decisiveness. Bush's management style was structured around a desire to preserve the time of the president and produce swift action. Bush's management style was a product of his past experiences as a former governor of Texas and business executive and his business school education. His life experiences had taught him to delegate and trust the abilities of his immediate subordinates. (Allen & Broder, 2004) Joe Allbaugh, a top aide and 2000 campaign director, described Bush as the "best one–minute manager" and a "fantastic delegator." (Public Broadcasting Service, 2004) President Bush once described his own decision making style by stating "I'm not a textbook player. I am a gut player." (Pfiffner 2011, 249) This preference was reflected in the way his White House organized his access to information. The Bush White House, while not built around a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The 1960s Of The 70s Ever wonder what it's like to be back in the 70s? Well I certainly do! Every decade has a special significant and I believe that we should learn about it. In the 1970s, it was a time period filled with equality fighting, freedom opportunity, change, and war. One interesting fact that I noticed in the 70s is that it is a continuation of the 60s. During this decade, women continued to fight for their equality and Americans joined the protest against the Vietnam War that was going on during this time. The 1970s was a time of great change. Some of these great changes had to deal with the fashion industries, technologies, and even transportation. Not only that, but in the 70s, types of music 's changed and so did art. For example, there was an increase in Installation Art during this time period. Even though the 1970s had great changes that improved the world, it also had some of its downfalls. In the political area, Nixon, as a president during this time, caused destruction. In addition, during this decade, there were several assassination attempts on presidents and it was also the beginning on terrorists. It is important for people to learn details about past decades. To truly understand about the 70s, you must know and learn the history, politics, fashion, music, important people, and sports. Under politics and history, Richard Nixon would be considered as an important person. Under Nixon's control, he immediately orders a U.S. invasion of Cambodia. After his ... • 15. The Legalization Of Illegal Drugs Before President Richard Nixon declared drug abuse as America's number one public enemy in 1971, the United States already had a long history of combating the use of illegal drugs. The first of its kind was the legislation that passed in San Francisco in 1875. This newly passed legislation banned the smoking of opium. However, this legislation seemed to be racially motivated. San Francisco citizens believed that Chinese men who resided in the community, and who were highly regarded as opium smokers, would lure women into opium dens and take advantage of them. In 1909, the United States Congress passed a federal ban on opium. Afterwards, the government began to target cocaine as well. Much like opium, the use of cocaine was also racially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since 1971, one trillion dollars have been poured into the War on Drugs. While this is more than enough money to provide the resources necessary to at least put a dent in the supply and demand for drugs, it has produced relatively no positive results. Instead, it has produced racial disparities throughout the entire country. Although white people abuse drugs at a rate that significantly higher than the abuse rates of African Americans, African Americans are arrested at a rate that is ten times higher than that of their white counterparts (Gupta). Many have begun to question if this war is against drugs, or people of color. It seems as if everybody is aware of the racial bias except the elected officials. In March of 2016, a twenty–two year old interview with President Nixon's domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman was discovered. In the interview, he said that Nixon created the War on Drugs as a way to politically fight African Americans and hippies (Lobianco). In the interview, Ehrlichman states, "You understand what I 'm saying? We knew we couldn 't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities" (LoBianco). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both of these arguments are true, however I believe it is more correct to say that his presidency marked a new conservative era. During his time in office, Nixon expanded Great Society legislation, created new and significant federal agencies, and his foreign policy with communism emphasized détente. However, he did not always agree with the liberal ideologies that he was implementing and, in regards to the anti–war protestors, his administration showed little concern for civil liberties. Richard Nixon's campaign echoed many aspects of the conservative language of the time, but ultimately his presidency was liberal, as he subscribed to liberal tendencies, such as broadening social programs and the influence of the federal government. He did not battle the Democrats, who held congress, on domestic issues and even expanded components of President Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society. Instead of curtailing the federal government's role, Nixon created new agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board. His administration poured money into social services and environmental initiatives, expanded the food stamp program, and allowed Social Security to expand with inflation. Numerous acts were passed such as the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Air Act. His commitment to protecting the environmental ostracized businesses, natural allies of conservative ideologies, who deemed these regulations burdensome. The reader is intended to use the narrator Dowell's disconnected and inaccurate impressions to build a more complete version of who the characters are, as well as form a more accurate view of what actually happens with "the sad affair" (Ford 9) of Dowell's pathetic life. This use of a single character's various perceptions creates a work that follows the style of literary impressionism, which, to some extent, should be only a series of personal impressions that culminates in the portrayal of reality as "a subjective experience" (van Gunsteren 239). He also says that her heart had made him lead the life "of the sedulous, strained nurse" (13), constantly needing to watch her and protect her from anything that might possibly excite her or cause damage to her heart. While this apparently constrictive relationship could be construed as irritating, Dowell does not seem to have any objection to the role Florence has given him, even when he later realizes that she had faked her heart condition to manipulate him. For the most part, Florence even inspires some degree of pity in him, and she often becomes "poor dear Florence" (12) in his mind. That he is capable of pity for such a manipulative person is only explained by his oblivious nature. This particular version of Florence shows the full extent of his lack of understanding as he attempts to explain things to himself. It also shows the degree of his gullibility. Dowell also describes Florence as weak and simple–minded, saying that "she was bright and she danced" (17). This portrays Florence as an essentially superficial person. However, this superficiality does not really say anything directly about Florence, but illustrates what Thomas C. The Bill Of Rights Of The United States The Bill of Rights was passed because concepts such as freedom of religion, speech, equal treatment, and due process of law were deemed so important that, barring a Constitutional Amendment, not even a majority should be allowed to change them. Rule of law is a principle under which all persons, institutions, and entities are accountable to laws that are: publicly promulgated, equally enforced, independently adjudicated, and consistent with international human rights principles. The United States, as a democratic republic, derives ultimate authority and power from the citizens and runs the government through elected officials. Our elected officials follow the same rule of law as the people they govern, and it is the electorate's hope that the laws they enforce are inevitably followed. However, this is not always the case, and during the thirty–seventh presidency of the United States, the people's trust of our executive office was shaken by a corrupt Nixon administration and its scandalous ways. On June 17,1972, American politics changed forever, leaving many Americans questioning their leaders and looking deeper into the presidency of their country. Following the economic crash of the Great Depression, some of the many "dangers" in life, including poverty, unemployment, and old age, were faced head on through the actions of the New Deal. The New Deal, created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, set up a series of domestic programs to decrease unemployment rates and salvage what was left of the economy. The poverty rate of the elderly exceeded 50 percent and the stock market crash destroyed many Americans savings, thus the Social Security Act was created. This act provided aid to dependent children, unemployment and disability insurance, and pensions for the elderly. An issue with this system was that it might seem like a welfare program rather than an insurance program. To combat this issue, the social security funds would be from payroll taxes from employers and workers. Younger generations would finance the fund and would benefit from the system once they turned 65. Although this was a much–needed system, especially after the Great Depression, many still opposed this idea. People argued that this act would cause a loss of jobs and that it reeked of socialism. The argument was rebutted when proponents of the act proved how it would act as an incentive for the elderly to retire, thus creating more job openings for younger generations. They, as well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the boundaries of traditional writing. Ford's Good Soldier and Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway are two particular examples of the genre. These novels were not well–received in their own time. As time went on, however, the attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really are – exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit. He also wonders at "the meaning of the narrator's nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion"(46). If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. Steinbeck effectively uses both the potent imagery and clear statements of what he perceives as fact to convey his message. This short chapter offers a succinct portrayal of one of the major themes of the larger work. Continuing to contrast Ovid and Steinbeck another difference becomes apparent. In Ovid's Golden Age the earth is bountiful without the interference of humans. Ovid says, "The earth itself, without compulsion, untouched by the hoe ... produced all things spontaneously, and men were content with foods that grew without cultivation" (p. 32). Steinbeck's Californian Eden comes about in vastly different manner. Steinbeck states, "Behind the fruitfulness are men of understanding and knowledge and skill" (p. 346). These men manipulate the earth, experimenting with seeds and roots, seeking to make plants resilient to all manners of pest and blight. Others, "men of chemistry," devise chemical sprays to kills insects, and "cut out disease and rots, mildews and sicknesses" (p. 346). There are still others. The Contemporary Advocates Of Liberalism In the thoughts of the contemporary advocates of Liberalism, one of the most noticeable and extensive accomplishments of the Early Modern time period is the expression, protection, and justification of civil liberties including the ability to run for and attain office. From the seventeenth century to present day, a number of distinct argumentative policies and approaches have been established in order to defend the common civilian's ability to attain political office. Over the past several decades, great advancements have been made in order to allow minorities and even females to run for office. Politics and religion are two of the toughest matters to deliberate with people of any area. The only item more problematic to have a heart–to–heart about than politics and religion is the practice of taking religious means and interpretations into the political jurisdiction. Some of the most controversial and newest topics in present–day society are those that are deeply affected by religious means such as abortion, legalization of same sex marriage, and warfare. The President, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Army, Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Air Force, and Chairman of the National Security Resources Board composed the original statutory members of the NSC. The President was also authorized to designate other specified officials to the NSC. The NSC staff, which is separate from "the Council," comprises politically appointed individuals and civil servants organized in specialized directorates. The primary function of the NSC is to advise the President on "domestic, foreign, and military policies relating to the national security." The NSC acts as a coordinator between departments and agencies across government, and relies on accurate and insightful reports from them to develop national security policy recommendations for the President. The NSC is unique because it both consumes intelligence to make recommendations to the President, and guides intelligence activities by coordinating policies across government. In 1949, the NSC reorganized to incorporate the Vice President, Secretary of the Treasury, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as remove the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force from the Council. • 55. What Makes Your Friend's Dreams Come True? There are not many better feelings in life than making one of your dreams come true. However, I have found that making one of your friend's dreams come true can be even more rewarding. My friend Ryan and I have always shared a passion for cars and trucks. We have spent many hours lying under, on top of and inside of our own vehicles trying to fix and modify them to better suit our needs and make them truly unique. After rolling his last vehicle, a heavily modified 1996 Toyota 4Runner meant for off–roading, he was looking for a new project. He spent over a year trying to find the perfect truck, but never could find the right vehicle. His neighbor ended up offering him a great deal on a 2000 Ford F–350 with the beloved 7.3L Powerstroke diesel, for a price he couldn't pass up. This is where the adventure began. Ryan was never a huge Ford fan and contemplated selling the truck almost immediately. The mechanic who performed the inspection the day after he had purchased the truck offered him 30 percent more money than he had payed. However after some convincing on my part he decided to keep it for awhile. Ryan and I spent a lot of time discussing which way he wanted to go with the modifications to the truck, it seemed like every week he wanted to do something different. He decided to add on the modifications that he knew he would be performing either direction he ended up going with the truck. We added on a new bumper, grille and headlights from the newer body style trucks and had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Essay on The Presidency of Gerald R. Ford The Presidency of Gerald R. Ford Gerald R. Ford was the 38th President of the United States, after gaining the position through extraordinary circumstances. His good will and friendly demeanor helped him climb the political ladder higher than even he had anticipated. His career in politics began with his law firm, yet ended up in the oval office. While his presidency was short lived, it is remembered due to numerous crucial decisions he had to make. After graduating from Yale with a law degree in 1941, Gerald R. Ford returned to his home town of Grand Rapids Michigan to start a law firm with his friend Phillip Buchen. He also became active in local politics. However, less than a year passed before he joined the Navy in 1942 to assist in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a matter of fact, his route to the presidency was more circumstantial than intentional. In 1973, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned from office due to a kick–back scandal ("Gerald R. Ford Timeline" 3). President Richard Nixon then decided to select Ford as the new vice president, knowing that Ford's reputation in Congress would make him the only candidate both houses and parties would accept. As the vice president, Ford was not very active. Even more so, he intentionally chose to stay out of the way; perhaps because he did not want to be associated with the actions and policies of the Nixon administration. Next, as is popular knowledge, President Nixon resigned after the Watergate scandal came to light, leaving Ford to become the President. Gerald R. Ford was sworn in on August 9, 1974, as the United State's 38th president. In his inauguration speech, Ford was open about the bizarre circumstances that led to him holding the position. He acknowledged to the people that he was not chosen by them for the job as President. He continues to say, "If you have not chosen me by secret ballot, neither have I gained office by any secret promises. I have not campaigned either for the Presidency or the Vice Presidency. I have not subscribed to any partisan platform." He spoke these words to show the public–who were skeptical of all politicians after the Watergate scandal–that he could be trusted. Whether someone just needs a basic transportation to get from point A to point B, an eight second quarter–mile beast, or a show stopping work of power and beauty, Ford has produced a Mustang for every need. The Mustang got its name from the World War II P–51 Mustang fighter plane (Harris). The "five generations" evolved each year model until, in response to the 1971–1973 models, Ford returned the car to its original size and concept in 1974 (Bowling). Furthermore, this car interests me because at the price one could completely personalize his or her dream Mustang for only $2,320. Ford would sell close to 417,000 Mustangs within the first year (Tucker). In August 1964, Carol Shelby approached Lee Daocca, President of Fomoco at the time. Shelby had a vision to create a high performance Mustang and Shelby wanted a car that could hold its own both on and off the track. Once Shelby received approval to move forward on the project, he created a fastback 2+2 Mustang (Kelly). This model Mustang only had front bucket seats and a console but no back seat, which earned it the name fastback 2+2. This model mustang came equipped with a four–speed manual transmission for more torque, one of the fastest cars of its day. The 2+2 fastback Mustang remains my favorite model Mustang of this year because it had a sleeker, aerodynamic design, and featured a larger engine, the 289 cu in, which produced a whopping 306 horsepower (Tucker1). The official name for this 2+2 fastback Mustang was the Shelby GT 350: Ford named it this for street purposes (Kelly). In the fall of 1964, Ford included an entirely new Mustang engine lineup and the addition of the GT group. The 200 cu in six–cylinder engine replaced the 170 cu in six–cylinder engine, thus increasing the six–cylinder's performance from 101 horsepower to 120 horsepower. • 61. From the 1900s laws have been placed banning the use of marijuana tied to other issues like prostitution, gambling, alcohol, and sex. Today in 2015, 23 states have legalized marijuana with laws underlying. It has been an ongoing battle whether medical marijuana should be legalized being a controversial issue today in society. The laws have changed over the span of One hundred years, yet laws are still intact. Where has it changed and where are we today? In the 1800's marijuana was sold in the drugstores and was used to treat migraines and menstrual cramps. In the early 1900s some states required you to have a prescription for the medical use of marijuana. By the 1930's marijuana was being tied with criminal cases being the lead cause of the crime. In the 1960–70's Congress with Richard Nixon as President passed the Controlled Substances Act classifying marijuana as a drug with a "high potential for abuse" and "no currently accepted medical use" (Bronner, 2013). Heroin was a heavy problem in the early 70's and in President Nixon's defense to stop it he banned the use of all drugs. This interpretation can be substantiated in this synthesis through the following three categories: biography, literary life, and promotion of literature. First, Ford was born in a very artistic family on December 17, 1873, at Wimbledon in England. Ford was the eldest of three children of Catherine Madox Brown and Francis Hueffer. By profession, his mother Catherine Madox Brown was a painter and his father Francis Hueffer was a music critic of The Times. ("Ford Madox Ford"; Peterson). In the 1920´s the United States' economy was 'booming' with success and increasing prosperity, in which a great deal of Americans, though certainly not all, shared. This period was also known as the 'roaring twenties´. With a plentiful supply of raw materials (e.g. oil and coal) and the policy of isolation and containment in place, America soon became even more powerful and wealthier. The construction industry grew due to the increase in traffic on the roads. Other consumer goods used the idea of mass production, causing a 'boom' in the economy; radio sets, telephones, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, washing machines and ovens were all being rapidly manufactured to serve the needs of the public. These new goods were 'attractive' to the Americans, resulting in sales rocketing. The ability to buy these goods, was greatly helped by the introduction of credit facilities – hire purchase. This allowed people who could not afford the whole cost of the product to obtain it by paying for it in instalments over a certain period of time. Mail order also increased the market for goods into the more remote areas of America. Also, throughout the 1920s there was a great feeling of consumer confidence among the American people. President Nixon was in office at the time of this scandal and is often thought to be the most famous face in America's conspiracy of wickedness in the government. The Watergate scandal had rocked everything our country thought we knew about the American Presidency because it had forfeited the common vision of the leader of the nation. Throughout his farewell address, President Reagan showcased some wonderful improvements to our nation of freedom. He referred to two triumphs in his speech, economic recovery and morale. He had an underlining theme in this section of his speech. It was a theme of common sense, and we had seen these two great triumphs because of our common sense! In regards to the economy he said, "when you put a big tax on something, the people will produce less of it. So we cut the people 's tax rates, and the people produced more than ever before." Then he used a simile of a plant being cut back and growing back healthy to describe the economy. In regards to morale, he mentioned that peace could only become reality when we were seen as strong and powerful. The result of these two triumphs was not only a changed nation, but a changed world. • 75. A Core Element Of The Film Western A core element of the film western is the struggle between the civilizing forces of society and the resistance of the wilderness. This has been used as a common thematic element in the narrative structure of Westerns, and can be seen in the films' portrayal of society's expansion to the west. In these films, this expansion, which is a part of the movement to tame the Wild West, is a conflict that is played out as a battle of oppositions on the American frontier. In director John Ford's My Darling Clementine, this fundamental aspect of the genre comes across in the main character, Wyatt Earp's, conflict with the Clanton family, whom the audience ultimately finds out are the ones who shot and killed the youngest Earp brother. While Wyatt Earp's status as the town marshal symbolizes the civility and order of society, the Clantons–a violent, uncivilized family in which the father uses primitive methods of discipline, such as whipping, against his own four sons–represent the wilderness of the untamed West. The symbolic importance of the characters in My Darling Clementine is also connected to Ford's use of setting and locale. Given the manner in which Wyatt Earp enters the town and sets about bringing justice to it, his character can be seen as the embodiment of the process of civilization of the West. From a cinematographic standpoint, the shots of locations within the town differ from those of the wilderness beyond the town site. The film makes use of its visual style to ...
