Instead of a basic health checkup an anti-aging examination is a series of tests that measure how the various systems in your body are handling the aging process. Who needs an anti-aging checkup? Anybody over the age of 20 can benefit from advice in how to grow older gracefully. People in their forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond, however, are the ones who will see the most dramatic improvements to their appearance, health, and energy after just a few weeks on an anti-aging regimen. Note Your physician does not typically run this battery of tests as part of a standard health checkup. Many of these diagnostic tests you will need to specifically ask for. The following tests are important for men and women, with the exception of the PSA test, which is for men only. Blood count Measures white and red blood cells and immunity Chemistry profile Checks liver and kidney function, albumin and iron levels PSA – Prostate-Specific Antigen Elevated levels may point to prostate inflammation, an enlarged prostate, or prostate cancer. DHEA – Dehydroepiandrosterone Precursor to the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone. Somatomedin (IGF-1) Measures growth hormone levels. Testosterone (free & total) Women and men both are affected by the drop in testosterone levels because of aging. Insulin Helpful in the diagnosis of insulin resistance and type II diabetes. Homocysteine Elevated homocysteine levels have been linked to increased risk of heart attack, poor brain function, and bone fracture.$

C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of systemic inflammation.
TSH – Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
Indicates increased thyroid activity – hyperthyroidism, or low thyroid activity – hypothyroidism.
TCP index
Measures the amount of protection you carry against free radicals
Lipid peroxides
Measures free-radical damage to fats in the blood.
Glycation index
Measures the amount of sugars attached to your body’s proteins – a high index indicates accelerated aging.

Thoracotomy is the surgical procedure with an incision made to access the pleural space and the contents of the thoracic cavity. Given the structures to be accessed with in the cavity, different incisions have been established to easy the procedure and these incisions qualify the types of thoracotomies to be studied hereunder. PRE OP OPTIMIZATION FOR SPECIFIC FACTORS The outcome of surgical procedures is not measured only by clinical end points but also shorter stays and lower costs. Patients’ discharge is delayed commonly due to inadequate pain relief, infection, arrhythmias, prolonged air leak and debility. Many complications that occur from thoracic operations can be anticipated. An aggressive preoperative work up mitigates morbidity and shortens convalescence. APPROACH CONSIDERATIONS There are about three principles that can guides the choice of the thoracotomy incision to be used I. Adequate exposure must be achieved. The choice of incision is aided by a thorough understanding of the surface anatomy and a comprehensive review of the radiographic images that are obtained preoperatively. II. Chest-wall function and appearance should be preserved to the extent possible. This principle include non-spreading video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) procedures, muscle-sparing techniques, avoidance of excessive rib retraction, and rib preservation when possible. III. The third principle is that closure must be meticulous and appropriate. Strict layered closure is the rule for thoracic surgical incisions. Every effort should be made to approximate the individual divided chest-wall muscles in appropriate layers; otherwise, a significant delay in the recovery of range of motion (ROM) may result. Care must be taken to avoid over approximating the ribs and to prevent an override; this will help minimize postoperative pain. POST-OPERATIVE CARE AND MONITORING

Anybody over the age of 20 can benefit from advice in how to grow older gracefully. People in their forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond, however, are the ones who will see the most dramatic improvements to their appearance, health, and energy after just a few weeks on an anti-aging regimen. Note Your physician does not typically run this battery of tests as part of a standard health checkup. Many of these diagnostic tests you will need to specifically ask for. The following tests are important for men and women, with the exception of the PSA test, which is for men only. Blood count Measures white and red blood cells and immunity Chemistry profile Checks liver and kidney function, albumin and iron levels PSA – Prostate-Specific Antigen Elevated levels may point to prostate inflammation, an enlarged prostate, or prostate cancer. DHEA – Dehydroepiandrosterone Precursor to the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone. Somatomedin (IGF-1) Measures growth hormone levels. Testosterone (free & total) Women and men both are affected by the drop in testosterone levels because of aging. Insulin Helpful in the diagnosis of insulin resistance and type II diabetes. Homocysteine Elevated homocysteine levels have been linked to increased risk of heart attack, poor brain function, and bone fracture.
