Synopsis Draft Feedback
The purpose of analysing this feedback is to get an insight into how well
my synopsis provides a clear picture of what is going to happen in my
film. It is important that the audience understand what is going on as
much as the author does.
Response One:
This response shows that this person was able to understand the plot of the film however
the message was slightly misinterpreted. The clear message this person described was
more focused on the protagonist taking the job for a dodgy employer however the
message I was trying to convey was the power of money and how far people let it dictate
their life along with the dangers it can cause. As a result of this I am going to alter the
synopsis so that the message is more clearly conveyed through the narrative.
The feedback showed that the problem of the film was understood, they described the
dilemma involved and were able to recognise what was at stake in the film. The characters
were also interpreted correctly, in the response she described the protagonist as being
“innocent and harmless but out of his depth” in terms of the danger of his situation.
Overall this response has shown me that the message of the film needs to be conveyed
more so that the audience can take a clear message from the film.
Response Two:
The key points this response makes are that the synopsis suggests a larger focus
on the fact that the protagonist has moved into a new area and is unfamiliar with
his surroundings . I had not previously thought of approaching the film from this
angle however I believe that it could work as an interesting way to approach to
establishing the environment and portraying it as a risky and unfamiliar place.
The other important features such as a clear POV, clear motivation and a clear
meaning were all given positive feedback in this response which suggests the first
draft of my synopsis definitely has some successful elements.
Response Three:
This response shows that the synopsis may be slightly misleading in terms of
portraying the main event that the film focuses on and the meaning behind it.
This person said that they could not clearly see the meaning behind the action
from the synopsis alone and that it needed further explaining. They understood
that money motivated the protagonist however I feel they interpreted his need
to pay the rent as being a larger part of the story than intended.
They were able to recognise the familiar settings and rituals involved in the film
however they still struggled to take a message away from the film. This suggests
that although the plot can be understood, the message needs to be conveyed in
a stronger way.
Response Four:
This response highlights the issue of quality mise-en-scene elements such as fake
blood and bruising on a zero budget production. The feedback also suggests that
the film needs to be more focused on the climatic event rather than the build up
and aftermath. The other questions were all responded to positively, the stakes
were recognised along with the main problem of the film and a clear POV.
The importance of the protagonist visiting the bank may have been slightly over
interpreted. In the narrative the bank scene is short and is used to set up him
accepting the job for the dodgy contact however the feedback suggests that the
reader interpreted this as being a larger part of the story and environment.
