UC International Student 4-Year Scholarship
1. UC International Student Undergraduate Four Year Scholarship
These scholarships were established in 2011 to recognise and support top achieving international students
who have gained University Entrance or the equivalent and who will commence a preparatory programme or
undergraduate degree at the University of Canterbury. The first awards will be made in 2012.
1. The scholarships, comprising tuition fees of up to $20,000 per year, shall be awarded to students who
intend to begin their preparatory programme or first year of an undergraduate degree programme at
the University of Canterbury, who have completed or are completing a university entrance
qualification, and who attended school in the year of application or nomination.
Note: Students with New Zealand or Australian citizenship, or New Zealand Permanent Residency,
are not eligible for these scholarships.
2. Up to 24 scholarships will be available in any one year.
3. Up to four scholarships will be awarded to applicants from selected partner schools in Wuhan, China.

4. The scholarships shall be awarded to full-fee paying international students who have applied for
admission at the University of Canterbury by 10 December in the year prior to their first year of
enrolment.
5. Each scholarship shall normally be tenable for up to four years towards a preparatory or
undergraduate programme and must be taken up in the first year of university enrolment.
Continuation of the scholarship is subject to the recipient achieving a B grade average in their studies
in the preceding year.
6. The scholarships shall be awarded based on the following criteria:
Quality of achievement at NCEA level 2 or 3, IB or Cambridge or equivalent university entrance
qualifications;
Evidence of the applicant’s leadership potential;
Involvement in cultural, sport and/or community activities.
7. . The award shall be made by the University Council on the recommendation of the Selection
Committee which will consist of:
the Vice-Chancellor or nominee;
the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Student Services and International) or nominee;
a member of University staff.
8. The scholar may not hold multiple fees scholarships unless they have the agreement of the Academic
Board.
9. Each scholarship will be credited directly to the student’s fees account at the time of enrolment.
10. Applications should be made on the appropriate form which can be obtained from the Scholarships
Office and forwarded to the Scholarships Office, University of Canterbury, Private Bag 4800,
Christchurch 8140, not later than 5.00 pm on 1 September in the year prior to enrolment at the
University of Canterbury. Applications for the Wuhan reserved scholarships close on 1 July.
Undergraduate Scholarship Regulations
University of Canterbury undergraduate scholarships are subject to the following regulations:
i. A condition of acceptance is that the recipients will be reasonably available to engage in UC
community activities as negotiated with the College and/or UC
ii. In the event of withdrawal from the specified course of study for which the scholarship is awarded, the
scholarship will be withdrawn, and any emoluments spent must be repaid
iii. The Academic Board may withdraw a scholarship at any time in the event of unsatisfactory academic
progress or UC community citizenship, and any emoluments spent must be repaid.
iv. Unless otherwise specified, scholarships may not be held with other awards.
