1. Kofun comes from the Japanese word for burial
mounds that date back to Yamato-Kofun period.
Kofun or burial mounds range in various sizes.
One of the most well known burial mounds is that of
Emperor Nintoku.
It is known for its size 486m long and 27m high.
Objects known as Haniwa were placed around burial
sites.
Haniwas represented people, houses and animals.
Most information about the Yamato- Kofun period
comes from these burial mounds.
