1. ANALYSIS OF NME DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The dateline and NME branding is
placed in the bottom left hand corner
of the left page. The dateline is to tell
the reader that it’s the latest issue. The
‘NME’ logo is placed there to make the
name of the magazine into a brand. It is
also there to show a relation between
the front cover, contents page and that
article. It is quite small so it doesn’t
take attention away from the main
image on that page but it is clearly
visible to the reader.
ANALYSIS OF NME DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The main image is located on the left
page of the article and is of the person
who it’s about – Dizzee Rascal. He is
seen to be against a wall that he is
graffiti-ing on which ties in with the
‘street/gangster’ theme. He is looking
behind him over his shoulder as if he is
looking out for anyone as he is doing
something wrong which is also what his
facial expression suggests as he looks
very mischievous.
In the top right hand corner there is a caption which says ‘Dizzee’. This indicates to
the audience that the article is about him so they will know this as soon as they turn
the page and see it in the top corner. It is commonly used which magazines have
articles as it informs the reader straight away and fills dead space.
The by line is located near the ‘title’ at the top
of the page. It is in very small print as readers
don’t tend to look at this very much and you
don’t want to main attention to be taken away
from the article on the page. Also it isn’t seen
as major relevant information so isn’t the main
focus.
There are four columns on the right hand
page of the article. This tells the story to the
audience and gets the point across. It doesn’t
take up the whole page because people tend
to be put off when they see a large amount of
writing together as they are too lazy to read it
so by cutting it up into 4 smaller chunks, it
convinces the reader to read it.
The main headline on the page is purposely
relating to what is happening in the image on
the contrasting page. The word ‘tag’ relates
to being on the streets along with graffiti
which is was Dizzee is shown to be doing.
This all links together because Dizzee Rascals
genre of music (rapping) is also related to the
streets.
There is a second image used on the page on the right hand side. This image is used as a
type of background, to keep in with the theme of the article and to make the page more
interesting. The image is of fallen bottles and an old stereo. This creates a gangster type
theme which again relates to the theme of being on the streets.
