2. Sans Serif FontsSans serif fonts are modern, and have even width strokes.
They are easy to read at big sizes and have good readability
on screen. I think that this would be a good font to use in the
contents page or through the main body of my double page
spread as it will make by magazine look tidy and up to date.

3. Serif Fonts.
Serif fonts use thick and thin lines or brush-strokes
throughout each letter, and each letter has
decorative accents which make up each letter.
Serif fonts are only easy to read at small sizes and on
paper, and as my masthead will be large, I don't think
it would be a good type of font to use for my front
cover.

4. Script Fonts
Script fonts are very elegant, pretty and sophisticated,
yet very difficult to read. They are usually used on
wedding invitations and certificates, not in magazines.
They would generally be targetted at older women, and
not used for the body of a piece of writing, or in small
paces. For this reason, I do not think it would be a good
idea to use them for my magazine as they would not be
appropriate for my target audience and rock music
genre.

5. Display FonTs
This type of font would be used on the front cover of my
magazine. These fonts are large, bold and easy to read
anywhere. They areused to draw attention and give
emphasis to certain areas of the page or writing. For these
reasons, I think a display font would be perfect for my
main masthead, the title of my double page spread and
maybe even my main coverline.

6. HandLetteredFonts
Hand lettered fonts are used to make it look as though the
text is in someones handwriting. They make the magazine
more personal and creates a connection or relationship
between the reader and the magazine as they add a
human element to the writing. They are usually used on
rock magazine contents pages, but I think I will use a hand
lettered font in an editorial letter on this page, as it will
make it feel as though the editor has actually hand written
it.

7. SIZEThe size of text is a crucial factor as size
indicates the importance of certain parts of the
text. For example,the masthead will be the
largest piece of writing on the contents page,
and the coverlines would be in a smaller font.

8. This is a display font. It gives off a certain message as the
font is cracked and looks quite rough and dishevelled. I
think that this would be a good font to use for my masthead
as it is big, bold, and it makes a statement. I also think that
the features of this font, for example the fact that it is
slanted and cracked, would make it recogniseable to the
reader, and create a trustworthy brand that they can come
back to again and again.

9. This is a sans­serif font. It uses quite thin letters, and I do
not think that it would be appropriate for my masthead as it
is too subtle, and does not make a statement. Even in a
large size, I do not think this font would bring a lot of
attention to the magazine or masthead. However, as it is a
sans­serif font I think that it could be used in the body of my
double page spread as the lettering is small, looks official
and it id easily read, even in lowercase.

10. This is a hand lettered font. It looks as though it is in
somebodies handwriting. Even though it looks nice, I do not
think that it would be a good font for my masthead as it is not
bold enough to draw attention to my magazine. However, I
think that I could use it on the contents page, for my editorial
letter. I think that it would make the magazine feel more
personal to the reader, and create a relationship between
the audience and the magazine, one they will hopefully
come back to.

12. Colour
The colour of the masthead must
symbolise something and give the
audiencean insight to the genre of
music inside this magazine.
Different colours have different
connotations, for example some
colours feel hot and dangerous,
while others feel calm and
relaxing, and others remind us of
nature and health. In magazines
like mine, you can not combine
primary and complimentary and
primary colours as they are both
bright and intense, but can be
hard to read when put together.

13. My colour scheme
I think that a good colour scheme for
my magazine would be black, red,
and grey. I think they all compliment
my genre very well as black and grey
connotate darkness and fit with the
miserable feel of rock, while the red
symbolises danger and anger, which
fits with the more lively, violent side of
rock.
