1. 11/02/16 | AMY GOODBAN | MODERN MAPS
I am walking down the hallways of alexandra palace in the early hours of the morning . I can hear the
slurred conversation of fans and I am very excited about the task i’m about to imbark on. I can just
about make out two distant figures through the dense smoke, but then I hear the strum of a broken
guitar and the laughter of Danni Heslin, and then I know that it’s the one and only modern maps. I sit
down on a crooked stool, suddenly overcome with a wave of nerves and innocence, opposite the torn
sofa where the women are sitting, intoxicated sweaty, red faced yet radiating pride and energy after
their greatly anticipated comeback gig. I am nervous to talk to the band as it is clear Modern Maps
have been through an unbelieveable amount over the years so I am wary of mentioning something
they don’t like to hear. “I hate being the first one to speak at these things!” Ana laughs as she takes a
huge drink of her disgusting beer and pulls a face “urgh I don’t even know why I still drink this shit!”
She Grimaces. The firls looks so proud to have had such a successful comback gig and to have no
opened the door to a better world than ever. “We did it” exclaims Danni Heslin, “we can laugh at the
critics who once laughed at us.” “The critics were a warning, as hard as it was to hear, I think that
being told what people thought really was a turning point because it was the first time we truely
listened and knew things needed to change… and look at us now!” Ana chimes in.
Modern Maps had there ups and downs and on more occasiona than one is seemed impossible that
theyd ever return. But now they’re back and better than ever so make sure you pick up “Fumigate The
Demons” on march 16th.
