Native American and European Differences The Native American and European Civilizations
interacted a lot when Europeans started colonizing. Although the Natives and Europeans shared the
same land their government systems, economy, and technology differed greatly. Factors that
contributed to these differences included the king and resources. The King regulated European
countries controlling them under the constitution. As a mother country, Britain was able to control
all of its colonies; because of this, the crown played a major role in distinguishing European
Civilization from the Natives. Government systems were different for Native Americans and
Europeans. In Europe people answered to the King and Parliament. Parliament made decisions,
enforced taxes, and made laws. The wealthy, land–owning, white men always held government
positions (Lecture, Chapter 4). Because of this, European governments were often corrupt and most
of the time only benefited the wealthy white man (Lecture, Chapter 4). The government was focused
on increasing the wealth and amount of land they could gain. The King`s desire for resources such
as: land, gold, and silver had impacted the government, by making wealth the main reason behind
government decisions. Native American governments differed from those of Europeans because
they did not have a King; instead, they had chiefs (Oakes, 2017, 16). The Chiefs "regulated relations
among the tribal chiefdoms" (Oakes, 2017, 20).Unlike the Kings for European, the Chiefs didn`t act
as a dictator. Instead, they had societies with "loose aggregates of villages which recognized no
central authority" (Cicarelli, 2012, 88). The Natives were much more lenient with power resulting in
more freedom. Although natives didn`t have a written constitution, they had rules which the tribes
were supposed to abide by. An example of a rule would be that if an outside tribe killed a member it
would be considered a declaration of war (Oakes, 2017, 43). The Chiefs had the power to decide
compromises and allies. (Oakes, 2017, 44) Unlike the Europeans, the Natives had more say and free
will to make their own decisions. Their government had no king and

European People: The Conflicts Between Native Americans...
From around 1500 to 1700, the European people were constantly trying to confiscate the American
lands, which left the Native Americans feeling ambushed. The Native Americans were caught off
guard because for the longest time they saw the land as if no one owned it, and it was there for
everyone to use. Native Americans were more into sharing the land, whereas the Europeans were
just there to buy it and capture it from them. The four main groups that captured the lands from the
Natives were the Spanish, Virginians, New Englanders, and Pennsylvania. Although some people
had conflicts with the Native Americans, each group had a different interaction with them, some of
them leading into honorable relationships. The Spanish were the first people

The European Impact on Native American Technology Essay
The European Impact on Native American Technology
When European exploration led to the populating of the Americas, it was described as the event with
one of the greatest ecological impacts in history. The force behind this impact was the mass
movement of people and their behavior's toward their "New World". It only stands to reason that a
clash would occur with the natives of these lands. One of the areas with the greatest conflict was the
field of technology.
Scientifically, when the cultures of 15th century Europe and the natives in the Americas are
concerned, the two are fairly alike. In Europe,a great deal of work was done in astronomy. Of course
this was because it was a necessity for navigation. From the studies of the ... Show more content on

Consequently, there was no real understanding of the human body and how it functioned. At this
period in time, such remedies as using leeches for blood–lettings were common practice in
Europe(McGovern, 75).
This is one area which contrasts greatly with the native cultures. The Indians of the Americas were
far ahead of the Europeans of their time. Because of the closeness and respect for nature, many
natural cures were used. The Aztecs had even gone as far as surgery to remove organs and even
work on the brain. The Indians also took much better care of themselves pysically. This was done by
a better diet and exercise. In some cultures a type of martial arts was taught beginning in adolesence,
to keep in shape both mentally and pysically. Despite all of these advancements, they were
powerless to the new and unfamilliar European diseases.
Another area in which the Indians thrived was that of agriculture and their understanding of the
earth. Europeans had little knowledge of agriculture, or chose not to use what they did have. Europe
was in a state of agricultural depression. Most of the soil was completely exhausted due to overuse
and general mistreatment of the land. Both activities which continued in America.
Agriculture served as the material foundation for the natives. Corn was the heart of this foundation
because it was so versatile. In

European Colonization and African American Development
European Colonization and African American Development During the period of 1885–1905, as
Africa was divided into 55 small states, an era of economic tug–of–war between the British and the
French known as "The Scramble for Africa" became the target of prosperity. While campaigned to
end slavery and all affiliations with the slave trade, this method of colonial rule not only effectively
controlled various territories, but also altered the lives of indigenous African people. Through tactics
of indirect and direct control performed by the Europeans, land was seized in the midst of turmoil
between the opposing parties as imperialism was established in the continent of profitable resources.
As a significant and major impairment in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thingification of indigenous African people equates to European colonization in a way that
inevitably works to the disadvantage of the oppressor's victims. Despite the difference between
French and British colonialism, the impact on blacks remained the same, and is clearly displayed
through the gradual assimilation with each foreign group. Their actions reinforced slavery in a new
light of mental captivity, which was the very thing that Europeans sought out to destroy as
redeemers of the new land. Africans were not allowed to maintain any connection to their original
cultures at all, and were even placed in positions as elite French leaders to represent examples of
what they could one day potentially become. Black slavery, ingrained racial prejudice against
blacks, and, after its partition by European powers, the necessity to rid Africa of colonial rule and
exploitation, are all factors of what eventually provided for the stimulus to the pan–African idea and
action (Lynch, 32). This new wave of liberation is what motivated blacks to make a change for the
better, and sought to unite separated Africans in the struggle for freedom. Africa for Africans, as this
philosophy came to be known, called for an end to decolonization, and a start to the emergence of

European Relations with Native Americans
As the Europeans arrived on American shores, they encountered a variety of native peoples.
Some were living in advanced civilizations; others were living as simple hunter–gatherer cultures.
By the time of the first European contact, in 1492, European settlers interacted with the native
peoples in different ways. The Spanish ruled the natives as conquered people, forcing many to work
on agricultural estates. The French developed a harmonious relationship with the natives. The
English approach fell somewhere between the two polar European powers.
The Spanish settled in present–day Mexico and Peru; they encountered the advanced civilizations of
the Aztec and Inca Empires. After diseases wiped out most of the native population, millions
survived. The Spanish incorporated the survivors as laborers for their own empire. Eventually, after
forced labor, the survivors died from exhaustion. Few Spanish families settled the empire so the
group of explorers and soldiers intermarried with the natives. After enslaving indigenous peoples in
the Caribbean and the southern parts of the Americas to grow crops and mine for gold, silver, and
other valuables, the Spanish moved into North America where they concentrated their efforts in
what is now the southwestern and southeastern United States. In present–day Florida, Spain

The European Union ( Eu ) And North American Free Trade...
The European Union (EU) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) both consists of
twenty–seven countries that makes it the largest trading bloc in the world. Based on the 2008 figure,
the value of the exports of goods/services from European Union to NAFTA was 639. One billion
Canadian dollars while the import of goods/services to the European Union from the NAFTA was
amounted to 513.9 billion Canadian dollars. Two trade blocs are also highly interdependent by the
means of FDI. In 2007, the value of inflows of FDI NAFTA from EU was about 1.77 trillion
Canadian dollars and 1.63 trillion Canadian dollars from NAFTA to EU respectively.
After the United States, the European Union is Canada's second most significant trading partner. In

States service exports) and $149.7 billion (35.4% of total United States service imports). Mexico
heavily relies on the European Union market as well; after the United States the EU is the second
most important trading partner to Mexico. EU and Mexico do have an established free trade
agreement that came into effect as of 2000. Although Mexico still imposes tariffs and quotas on
certain products such as meat and dairy, the EU and Mexico partnership is still one of the most
comprehensive in the world's economy. In 2014, the EU exported €27.4 billion worth of goods to
Mexico and €18 billion in imports. FDI from Mexico to EU amounted for €22.6 billion(inflow) in
2013 while the FDI outflow was around €102.3 billion.
The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of two policies that are related to
Trans–Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Firstly, we will explore the effects of bilateral FTA
between Canada and the EU on different Canadian sectors (policy 1). Secondly, to investigate the
economic effect if there is a free trade agreement between EU and NAFTA (Policy 2). There are
various techniques that could be utilized to carry out this analysis. In this paper we use Computable

European Influence On Native Americans
Although Native Americans would have grown and prospered after ejecting European colonists
from the New World, it would be foolish to assume that European nations would never breach the
Americas. While it is true that Europeans would be unable to overpower a fully intact Native
American presence, eventually, Europeans would seize the Americas the same way they conquered
not only Africa, but Asia as well. As time passed, technology boomed, and the Industrial Revolution
mechanized the European world. With their newly invigorated might, the chasm separating
European technology and that of the rest of the world split wider. With innovations including
railroads, telegraphs, advanced firearms such as the Gatling gun, steam engines, and sophisticated ...

These systems required labor in order to operate. Originally, European colonists utilized native
labor, but seeing as Native Americans quickly perished as a result of disease, colonists resorted to
importing laborers from Africa. The necessity of African slavery in the American colonies became
the reason for the largest forced migration in history, as at least 12 million Africans were carried
across the Atlantic between the years 1500 and 1860, when the Atlantic slave trade was ended. The
Middle Passage, the journey from Africa to the New World across the Atlantic, was responsible for
the deaths of nearly 2 million African slaves since slave–carrying boats were often filthy and
overcrowded, unscrupulously jampacked with human cargo in an effort to utilize the boat's capacity
and to increase the efficiency and profit of each trip (Gates). Had Native Americans been immune to
European pathogens, they would have prevented any large–scale European settlements from
occurring in the Americas; therefore, plantations, mines, and other labor–intensive projects would be
impractical for European explorers, and the necessitation of slave labor would be nonexistent. As a
result, the largest forced migration in world history would be avoided. Even after Europe underwent

European Influences On Latin American Culture
I found it very interesting that, as it mentioned in the beginning of the chapter, Latin American
culture is so closely tied with European and African culture. However, I can see why since Spanish
colonies, Portugal, and other places interacted with Latin America even so far as to leave an
influence on their language, and black slaves were brought to parts of Latin America to be imported.
One musical feature that the Europeans helped to incorporate into Latin America music is the
singing with their languages. In fact, we learned in the reading that the Quichua language
incorporated some Spanish into it. Most of the Latin American songs that I've heard are sung in
Spanish, although this isn't to say that what I've heard is best representative

The European Union (EU) vs the North American Free Trade Agreement
Introduction
The European Union (EU) is the organization which integrates the countries listed below, both
politically and economically. It is a customs union, which is an agreement amongst a group of
countries to eliminate trade barriers between them on the movement of goods, services, labor and
capital, and also to establish a common external tariff on goods and services coming into the union.
The EU evolved from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), which was formed in 1951
as a response to the First and Second World Wars to try to ensure future peace in Europe. This
became the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1965, which in turn became the European ...

Indeed, the ideological foundations that gave birth to the EU were based on ensuring development
and maintaining international stability, i.e., the containment of communist expansion in post World
War II Europe (Hunt 1989). The Maastricht Treaty which gave birth to the EU in 1992 included
considerations for joint policies in regard to military defense and citizenship.
Trading blocs could strongly affect a company's investment decision. This particular trading bloc
development prompted Ford to realise it could consider Europe to be one common market rather
than a collection of individual markets. In 1967, Ford changed its management structure to include
its European operations under one umbrella organisation known as Ford Europe Incorporated. Its
two large U.K. and German manufacturing centres remained an important dimension of the new
strategy, but they were no longer considered separate, independently operating companies. Despite
nationalistic tendencies on the part of the host–country management, Ford decided that, from the
companies perspective, it was best to eliminate national boundaries, and a German director said, The
pooling of the two companies cut the engineering bill in half for each company, provided economies
of scale, with double the volume in

American football vs European football (soccer)
On November 1869, Princeton and Rutgers played the first intercollegiate football game in New
Brunswick, New Jersey, using a soccer–style game with rules adapted from the London Football
Association (Michael Oriard 2017). American football is a combination of two English sport, rugby
and soccer. In term of popularity, soccer is most popular sport in the world, whereas American
football is only popular in the United States. American Football and soccer have differences such as
the protections gears, the shape of the ball, the way they score points, numbers of leagues. The

American Football is a very expensive sport due to the amount of gear you must wear and their
expenses. To play American Football you need a Helmet to protect your head against concussion,
Shoulder and Chest pad protector, upper leg padding and mouth guard. According to a research, the
University of Nebraska spends $1,000 on average to equip each football player for a game. (Cork
Gaines 2012). All those protections do not prevent injuries. Conversely, in soccer, you only need
shin guard to protect your shin. The expenses of the gears and the equipment can be the reason why
American football is only played in united states. Duration in sports activities may result in an
uninteresting game or enjoyable to watch. The third difference between soccer and Football is the
time limit. American football has in total of 60 minutes, with 4 quarters and each quarter is 15
minutes, after the second quarter the referee announce a long break, the game is not constant like
soccer, basket or hockey, On the other hand, soccer has 90 minutes in total, with a break after the
first half and both half long 45 minutes, at the end the referee adds an additional time for the time
lost. The fourth difference between soccer and American football are the popularity and the number
of fans. Unfortunately, American football has only 400 million fans because it is only played and

European Colonization Of Europeans And Native Americans
After Columbus sailed the blue ocean in fourteen hundred ninety–two, the New World encountered
catastrophic epidemics from the European conquest. The spread of diseases between Europeans and
Native Americans led to a demographic calamity. The earliest explorations from European countries
introduced a plethora of diseases; these diseases hindered the Native's population and way of life.
Not only early explorations of European countries impacted the indigenous people, but the
settlement and encounters with Europeans in the twentieth century did as well. Before Europeans
voyaged to the New World, the lands were occupied by Native Americans for thousands of years,
but Europeans for centuries regarded themselves as the first to discover the Americas. Relations
between the Native Americans and Europeans were often difficult. The Europeans saw the natives as
savage heathens to be Christianized, and considered the land unexploited and ripe for colonization.
The Italian explorer Christopher Columbus opened the way for European exploration of the New
World. During Christopher Columbus's (1451–1506) voyages to the Western Hemisphere, the
monarchs of Western European nations sent explorers seeking a faster, more direct passage to Asia.
Although these explorers failed in this mission, they helped map out a rich land for Europeans to
control and colonize. English exploration was different from Spain, Portugal, and France. The
English merchants had a huge role in English exploration

The Native Americans And The Europeans
When the Europeans conquered the Native Americans; both groups had little understanding of each
other, especially their cultures. The Native Americans had a rich through history that allowed them
to be almost as developed as the Europeans. However, the Europeans overlooked this because the
Native Americans had not established the same man–made medical and agricultural developments
as the Europeans. Conversely, the Native Americans thought that the Europeans were too concerned
with dead objects, and took their land for granted. There are many controversial debates over who
was worse: the Native Americans or the Europeans, yet, it's evident that warfare, ritual torture, and
cruelty were apparent in both societies. The Europeans had not known what the Native Americans
had achieved, and the struggles they'd overcome. The history of the Native Americans began in
Siberia. Many scholars hypothesize that the first Americans came from Siberia and traveled into
Alaska. The colder climate of the Ice Age made an ice bridge across what is now the Bering Strait.
Unfortunately, the bridge started to melt without warning, causing the people in Alaska to become
trapped. A group of Native Americans known as today 's' Navajo and Apache came to the rescue
when their construction of boats advanced and allowed them to be durable enough to travel across
the strait. These Athabascan–speaking people traveled from Canada and later reached the American
southwest. The Paleo–Indians were next to create

European And American Indian Interactions
Ripon Ali Professor James Boles September 20, 2014 U.S. History Origins 24000 European and
American Indian Interactions The dominant themes of early European and American Indian
interactions were trade, warfare, and religion. According to the Created Equal 2nd Edition textbook,
the first interaction that took place between the Europeans and the American Indians was in 1492,
which was the year when Christopher Columbus first landed in America. (1.Borstlelman, Jones,
May, Ruiz, Wood, pg 11) When Columbus first came to America his way of interacting with the
American Indians would define theme of interactions for a long period to come. Amazed by the gold
that was to be found from the American Indians and the common belief at that time that the "whole
world is the rightful inheritance of Christianity." Columbus and his followers set to rule the
American Indians and impose Christianity on them. Having more advanced warfare than the
American Indians, early Europeans enslaved and robbed them of their land and possessions. Due to
the European diseases that were brought, most island populations of American Indians became
extinct. Therefore, in search for more labor Europeans moved to explore the mainland. The French
trade increased mainly because of the Indian's ability to procure beaver pelts. Furthermore, without
the Indian's cooperation, the Europeans could not carry its trade in furs and skins. Without the
Indians, the Europeans wouldn't have been to increase their economy. The

difference is that the Americans and Africans are living like Indians. The Europeans on the other

system I am going to talk about is the religous system. This is where most of the differences will
come. The Americans and Africans had the same thing in common and that is that they were either
animists or had no religion at all. Also they would respect the spirits that had died and offered
sacrifices to make their hunt or crops successful. Africa however had a few muslims come from

American Indians And Europeans Americans
American Indians verses Europeans Europeans came over to America in 1492 changing the way the
Natives lived forever. These natives were living peaceful and happy lives. The Europeans came over
to these innocent people's land who were minding their own business; calling them savages, killed
their people, and destroying the perfect lives they once had. There are many accounts recorded on
how the Indians and Europeans felt about the discovery of America. The Natives believed they had a
very sophisticated society before the Europeans showed up; but the Europeans believed the natives
did not know how to live and that they need their help to learn how to live the "correct" and "godly"
way. With these in mind there is no way these two cultures could live in harmony unless they both
decided to learn from one another. The problem with this is the Europeans never gave the natives the
chance to have their own beliefs and the Natives could never teach the Europeans what they knew
because the Europeans believed everything the natives did was wrong. The Europeans believed the
Indians were lazy, non–deserving savages who were on land that was "given" to the Europeans by
God. They thought that God had taken them to the new land because they were running out of
resources in Europe. The Europeans saw the Natives as a resource along with everything they had
on the new land. "I understood sufficiently from other Indians, whom I had already taken that this
land was nothing but an island"

South African Americans Before European Integration
Europe has been quite successful in integrating its economies because of the various geopolitical
and economic activities. The first and foremost reason is that these countries are small and the
economy of the one country can be integrated with the economy of the other country. Their
integration has been made possible because the aspiration and believe of the different countries are
very much similar. Moreover, their cultural and economic history is moreover same. European
Union as it has been called now has been the most developed model of the regional integration
though challenged by economic crisis now a days.
For the integration, the intersection of the economic need, life style of the people, and size of the
economy must be same. Due to inappropriate way and lack of proper political integration by
countries and surge in the national feeling over the common economic goal of the region has
adversely impacted the area. European unions is comprised of many countries which include

Differences Between Europeans And Americans In The...
In his novel The Europeans, Henry James tells the story of an American family that is visited by
their European cousins. James uses these circumstances to depict the differences between Europeans
and Americans. The Americans tend to be frightened of the Europeans, since they seem quite foreign
within the puritanical American community. On the other hand, the Europeans are surprised by the
Americans' provincial ways. Reaction to the unfamiliar is a central element of the novel. Each
character's reaction to the unfamiliar reveals his or her personality and also determines whom that
character is capable of tolerating and of loving. Felix, one of the European cousins, and Gertrude,

It is during this fantasy that Gertrude first meets Felix. Felix is as open to the unknown as Gertrude,
having traveled around in Europe because he could never stay in one place. He also changes
quickly; instead of thinking of tradition he adapts to whatever culture is around him: "Felix, who
learned all things quickly, had already learned that the silences frequently observed among his new
acquaintances were not necessarily restrictive or resentful"(34). Gertrude and Felix are both
outgoing and do not have a strong sense of tradition and duty because they would rather change
atmospheres than be bound by the one they presently live in. However, others in the novel do not
welcome variation in their lives as do Gertrude and Felix.
Charlotte and Mr. Brand are both vehemently opposed to change. They like to uphold tradition, and
would rather keep their lives calm than take a risk. Charlotte is always concerned with duty, and
thus takes this attitude when her foreign cousins come to visit. James depicts the situation: It was an
extension of duty, of the exercise of the more recondite virtues; but neither Mr. Wentworth, nor
Charlotte, not Mr. Brand, who, among these excellent people, was a great promoter of reflection and
aspiration, frankly adverted to it as an extension of enjoyment. This function was ultimately
assumed by Gertrude Wentworth (37).

The Consequences Of The European Colonization Of Native...
European Colonization was rapidly expanded after Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer
arrived in the Americas. The start of the Colonization is dated to 1492. The European Colonization
of the Americas was a tragedy because, the Native Americans were living a peaceful life and the
arrival of Europeans has led to the devastation of indigenous communities through diseases,
violence and dispossession. The most harmful consequences of the European Settlement to the
Native Americans was the transfer of diseases. Europeans brought diseases such as small pox,
measles and influenza. This had destructive consequences for native Americans who could not fight
these diseases as they did not possess immunity. They had no time to recover from these epidemic
diseases and started dying quickly. Small pox spread from tribe to tribe along the trade routes. Thus,
within a century, diseases have reduced indigenous populations by as much as 95% making matters
worse. "The Epidemic took years to exhaust itself and may have killed 90% of the people in coastal
New England. This made a huge difference to American History." (Mann, 1491) The drastic death of
so many Native Americans decimated the supply of labors who were working under the Europeans
in the Americas. One of the reasons for death was that most Native Americans were not experienced
for many bacterial diseases so, they had little or no knowledge on how to combat them. The practice

Europeans In 19th Century Americans
In chapter one I was intrigued to learn about the Europeans. Edwin Gaustad and Leigh Schmidt
stated that learning about the inhabitants of what we referred to as the "New World', the Europeans
would romanticize and idealize themselves as symbols. The Europeans were symbolic in their way
of innocence, they were the true inheritors of the Garden of Eden before the fall. Exploring deeper
into the Europeans symbolic meaning, I discovered that the tendency of Europeans to sentimentalize

The Between Europeans And Native Americans
The interactions between Europeans and Native Americans have not always been positive. There are
numerous difference that interactions between the two groups. Europeans were known as a group
that during the 16th and 17th century, made a great deal of change with their religious views. They
were once without religion, but were known to turn to sects like Christianity and Puritanism. The
Native Americans were a group known to be without religion. These people did not believe it one
God and a book to follow. They believed in various higher beings that oversaw things like hunting,
crops and sacrifices. These spirits didn't represent a sense of hope or something to look forward as
did being a Christian. William Bradford and Mary White Rowlandson were two religious people
who came from England to the new world in order to seek new opportunities in their religious
pilgrimage. Upon their arrival to Massachusetts, they lived in settlements were next to Native
establishments. Both women told stories of the horrors that the Natives put upon them. William
Bradford's belief is Puritanism lead him on a voyage with others to Massachusetts. His encounter
with the Natives, although not completely negative, was bias based on his beliefs. In England, the
social structure was completely different then that of the Native Americans. In Chapter XIV,
Bradford noted different customs he noticed that the Natives portrayed. The natives shared land
among each other. The chief was said to assign land

European American Exploration
European Exploration The fifteenth and sixteenth centuries were a period of exploration and
expansion for the powerful european monarchies, this change and the reasons for it affected
european and american society's. A nation had to be well established and strong before it could
explore and expand outward, this means that the europeans had to make changes themselves. Many
christian european orders wanted to spread the christian religion to the native americans of the new
world and also made some money from the towns they established. The Europeans were also in
search of resources and a way to make their native currencies, many times the native americans
were affected in the process. European nations had to be established and strong before they could
partake in exploration and expansion. The Portuguese first to explore and expand did it because they
were an established and strong power opposed to other divided countries such as France and Spain.

For example Encomienda was a social system where the spanish conquerors would use the native
indians as laborers but were provided with food and wages. Most of the time this was ignored and
they just used them as a slave force that was starved and riddled with many of the european
diseases. This forced labor, starvation and disease killed lots of the native indians. To conclude
expansion was possible when a nation became strong and established. Then when they did finally
expand the christian religion also came too and it was used as a way to control the indians. The
native americans were also used as slave laborers that worked in poor conditions and many of them

Essay On Europeans And Native Americans
The unexpected encounter between the Europeans and the Natives had the huge impact on the
technology, economic, and population of the Natives. I think that the encounter between the
Europeans and the natives had a negative and positive impacts in different ways. Because of the
encounter between them Americans built a strong economy and it increased the population in the
New World. This helped America because it helped the people to farm and increase their trading
between the other countries. I feel that the unexpected encounter between the Europeans and the
Natives had an extremely negative for having powerful weapons and spreading diseases such as
smallpox, also for killing people. In documents 2, 3, 5, and 7 had a huge impact on the natives in
many ways. One example that was negative for the Natives was the Europeans spread smallpox to
the natives which it decreased the population in the New World. In Document 5 the illustration
shows that the natives were dying because of the disease. Therefore, there was no cure for that
disease. The next example, the Europeans attacked the Natives by their advanced technology, which
they were able to kill more amount of natives. In document 2, it shows how the Europeans were
killing, fighting and attacking the natives by their weapons. Another example, even though the

European Indians And American Colonists
The moment when Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas was the beginning of the
interactions between American Indians and European colonists. These very first interactions were
mostly positive due to the the generosity of the Indians but turned violent when the Europeans began
to mistreat, kidnap, enslave, and kill the American Indians. Actions taken by the American Indians
and European Colonists, especially actions of violence, during the 1600s caused the relationship
between the two parties to be negative and conflicting in New England and Chesapeake. In New
England, John Winthrop began conflicts early when he declared that the Indians had only a natural
right to their land and no legal right. The Puritans and Pequot Indians lived side by side with relative
peace until an attack was launched upon the Narraganset Indians. Not many people were killed and
the Narragansets did not fight back, but when the Puritans attacked the Pequot Indians, they fought
back. The Pequot War was one of large massacres, rather than battles, from both sides and had many
deaths. "Mason proposed to avoid attacking Pequot warriors, which would have overtaxed his
unseasoned, unreliable troops. Battle, as such, was not his purpose. Battle is only one of the ways to
destroy an enemy's will to fight. Massacre can accomplish the same end with less risk, and Mason
had determined that massacre would be his objective" (Jennings). The Europeans raided the Pequot
village and burned all of

Native American And European Interactions Between Native...
The interactions between Native Americans and Europeans were beneficial as well as detrimental
for both parties. From the introduction of new crops and items to the alteration in gender roles, the
clashing of two completely different cultures had a lasting impact.
When Europeans first settled in America, there were many obstacles along the way. There was a
struggle for survival and fortunately, the natives were present to help by teaching the Europeans how
to grow crops, fish, and hunt. Farming allowed for the introduction of foreign crops such as corn,
potatoes, and beans into their diets which improved their health and extended their life. The
gathering of nuts and berries also became a part of their diet. Hunting and fishing eventually became
a way of life for some Europeans and led to competition for forest resources with natives. Climate
differences caused the European clothing to experience minimal change with clothing commonly
used by the Indians being incorporated into the European style due to its practicality. Men began
wearing moccasins, leggings, and hunting shirts for comfort as well as a form of stating cultural
mobility but overall the style didn't stick. Transport was also an issue in the beginning but was soon
addressed by Indian snowshoes, canoes, and toboggans, which aided Europeans when it came to
transporting manufactured products and people as well as infiltrating further into the country. The
architecture was only slightly modified with Europeans

European Influence On Native Americans
There were many influences such as economic, social structures, and diseases that made various
Native American tribes vulnerable to conquest by European adventures. European explorers sought
wealth, adventure, and spreading the Christian religion (Scott et al., 2006). The tales told by
adventures about glorious lands, gold, and primitive people sparked Nations such as Spain to
explore these lands. As explorers went forth, they introduced the European culture which brought
warfare and diseases that severely depleting the native populations. The native tribes lived
separately from the influence of European nations, so they had a much different culture that
European's viewed as uncivilized. The indigenous people adapted to their natural environment
hunting, fishing, and implementing agriculture to provide for their basic needs. Tribes competed for
hunting and fishing territory, but they did not associate the land with private ownership like that of
the European culture (Scott et al., 2006). Also, each tribe had their own language and religious
practices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tribes such as the Aztec's, on the other hand, had greater civilizations that required the Spanish to
form military alliances with other tribes who despised the Aztecs to defeat their warriors (Scott et

God would arrive to reclaim authority and rule over the people. When Cortes and his men arrived in
South America fitting this description, some of the native tribes were hesitant to attack them (p.1).

Native Americans vs Europeans
In the time of the American Revolutionary War, there were many differences that influenced how
our country turned out today. Most of the cultural differences occurred between the Native
Americans and the Europeans that had newly settled in what is known today as America. Some of
the most notable differences were those of religion, political, economic, and social. These
differences divided the habitants of America in several ways and formed many bonds but also
brought them to many moments of conflict. When the Europeans landed in America, they sought
religious freedom and often tried to convert the Native Americans. The Native Americans as a whole
could not grasp the concept of worshiping only one "god". Native Americans believed ... Show more

For example, the Powhatan tribe had traded its corn with the Virginia colony to show that they were
the more powerful force but this led to the First Anglo–American War (1610–1614). When trading
with the Europeans, the Native Americans often contracted many foreign diseases; for example:
smallpox, typhoid, and dysentery. These diseases were often to blame for the Native American's
losses during the early settlement of the Americas by the Europeans. The more people that the
Native Americans lost, the weaker the tribe became and the easier it was for the Europeans to take
over their land. When Henry Hudson sailed up the Hudson River, he claimed land from the Mohawk
tribe. This was in exchange for fur, which established the Fur Trade. Producing only what the tribe
needed allowed the tribes to be self–sufficient. The Europeans mass produced everything because
they were focused on exportation. The Europeans would focus on one single product to produce to
export but then found the need to trade with others to obtain what they needed to survive. An
example is the production of tobacco. The tobacco planters had need for more land. They slowly
took over some of the Native American land. The Native Americans got really upset and killed five
hundred of one colony's people. Some Europeans jumped the gun and decided to kill the wrong tribe
of Native Americans and that used to be friendly tribe retaliated. All this

Native American And European Colonization

HIST17A

TITLE
There were initially two to ten million natives in the United States prior to European contact. Those
numbers dwindled down drastically in the years that Europeans came and started colonizing. The
Europeans came to explore the New World in search of land, spices, gold, God and glory. Among
these colonists were the Spanish who colonized most of the southwest of the United States.
Evidence of their settlements can still be seen today in the missions scattered across the land. These
missions were started with the purpose of converting the Native Americans to Christianity. Try to
put yourself into the shoes of the Native Americans, imagine living your entire life with a particular
set of beliefs, based on what was handed down by your ancestors and culture. Then suddenly a
group of foreigners would come and proclaim that your views are all wrong and that you must
follow their beliefs for the salvation of your soul. This is exactly what the Spanish colonizers did to
the Native Americans as they invaded their territory which is the reason why the relationship
between the two parties were strained and rife with tension. The conversion of the Natives and the
constant hostility by the Spanish conquerors subsequently led to the disintegration of native life and
culture.
Spain's initial contact with the Americas began when Christopher Columbus landed in Hispaniola
(present day Haiti and Dominican Republic) and sparked a

European Impact On Native Americans
One of the biggest impacts of European exploration was that of disease. Native Americans and their
rich culture thrived during the pre–colonial era. Smallpox was among the most common viral
disease that wiped out entire populations of Native Americans. When elders and leaders of tribes
would die of disease, traditions and ceremonies to be lost with them. The unique languages in native
cultures died with the villages that came into contact with European disease. Religion was impacted
by disease in a way that wasn't simply elimination. While some beliefs died with infected tribes,
others were forgotten due to a lack of faith. When the healing ceremonies of a tribe failed to cure the
ill, many natives lost faith in their beliefs. Another factor of this was caused by European immunity.
Due to previous exposure, Europeans, who were also Christians, did not contract smallpox and
measles at such an alarming rate. This led to the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While there are many different religions that belong to the many cultures of the natives, there is
some common ground. Native Americans passed down myths and traditions verbally. They believed
in spiritual connections and symbolism to represent their deities.(Heyrman, 2008) When the
European settlers arrived in America, they attempted to convert the Native Americans to
Christianity. The success of conversion varied based on the native people, but it had the same effect
overall. The attempted conversion to Christianity resulted in much of the religious beliefs of the
Native Americans to fade away. Religion and spirituality were a very large part of their cultures, and
the drive to convert the natives nearly eliminated it. Native American culture shifted from spiritual
beliefs in many deities and worship of the earth to the common monotheistic belief in Christ.
European settlement often forced the original religious values out of Native American cultures.

The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims
Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with
Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low–skilled poor migrants face
hostility in many European nations, as anti–immigration policies and laws are being implemented,
with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants
is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue
technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the
limelight over the banning of burqa's in European countries, and the effects these policies will have
on future immigration to Europe (Glazer, 2010).
In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims?
While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are
migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh
(Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of
unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010).
Why do experts believe anti–immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue that
the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the
populace's fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national
identity–which some

European And Native American Beliefs
The history of Native American religion is influenced by exposure to Europeans, the beliefs of
different tribes, and traditions that were passed down orally. When the Europeans came to America
they impacted the Native American religions in many different ways. The Native Americans had to
adapt to Europeans, but they also kept to their original ways. Even before the adaptations, the Native
Americans and Europeans had similarities including: believing one god and one main evil spirit,
believing in an afterlife, and they both believed in the immortality of the soul. Even though the
Natives believed in one god, "Master Spirit", unlike the Europeans, they believed that the god could
assume a variety of forms and both genders; Native Americans also believed in many lesser spirits.
Other differences were that Natives passed their beliefs down verbally instead of documenting
everything in a book or books. As a result of exposure to Europeans, Native American traditions
gradually intermixed with Christian beliefs. One example of the influence of Christianity on Native
American rituals is the adaptations to the Sun Dance. Before the Sun Dance was primarily practiced
in the Upper Plains and the Rocky Mountains and performed at the summer solstice. The dance was
often practiced differently for each tribe, but the Eagle, helping bring body and spirit in harmony, is
an important symbol for all tribes. There are many similarities for each tribe including: specific
songs and dances that

The European Domination Of Native Americans
Many prominent historians argue a clash between culture and religious philosophy was the primary
cause of conflict between European settlers in North America and Native Americans. However, a
closer analysis of American history suggests otherwise. While a clash in cultures and religious
differences did exist, the European domination of Native Americans was primarily fueled by
European economic motivations, a desire for valuable natural resources and a craving to expand the
American colonial system. Due to this, the conflict was inevitable. Before Europeans ever ventured
to North America, the land had been populated by Native American nations that had their own
distinct cultures and social structures. Native Americans had trade routes and established complex
relationships between tribes. They were not merely heathens waiting to be civilized by the
Europeans. Yet, Europeans would use those justifications to lay claim on their land. To better
understand the conflict between the Europeans and the Native Americans, one must closely examine
the state of Europe's economy at the time. Europe struggled with difficult conditions. This included
poverty, violence and diseases like typhus, smallpox, influenza and measles. There were widespread
famines which caused the prices of products to vary and made life very difficult in Europe. Street
crimes and violence were prevalent in cities: "Other eruption of bizarre torture, murder, and ritual
cannibalism were not uncommon".2 Europeans

Native American And European Interaction
Throughout the course of history there have been numerous accounts regarding Native American
and European interaction. From first contact to Indian removal, the interaction was somewhat of a
roller coaster ride, leading from times of peace to mini wars and rebellions staged by the Native
American tribes. The first part of this essay will briefly discuss the pre–Columbian Indian
civilizations in North America and provide simple awareness of their cultures, while the second part
of this essay will explore all major Native American contact leading up to, and through, the
American Revolution while emphasizing the impact of Spanish, French, and English explorers and
colonies on Native American culture and vice versa. The third, and final, part of this essay will
explore Native American interaction after the American Revolution with emphasis on westward
expansion and the Jacksonian Era leading into Indian removal. Furthermore, this essay will attempt
to provide insight into aspects of Native American/European interaction that are often ignored such
as: gender relations between European men and Native American women, slavery and captivity of
native peoples, trade between Native Americans and European colonists, and the effects of religion
on Native American tribes. By the 1500s, when Europeans first began arriving in North America, as
many as 10 million Indians lived on a continent mapped by trails and rivers, many of which, were

Impact Of European Colonization On Native Americans
The European Colonization of the Americas initiated in 1492 when Spanish explorer and navigator,
Christopher Columbus sailed the sea to the New World. Their main motivation was to probe new
trade routes, spread Catholicism and earn recognition and stardom for discoveries made similar to
the findings that came from the conquest of the Aztecs and Incas. The English then established
permanent settlement in the New World and interacted with the indigenous people that were already
living there. This was found to have a detrimental effect on the Native Americans because
Europeans brought dangerous diseases such as smallpox to the Americas. Also, natives were
imperialized, forced to give up their vibrant culture and take up the lifestyle of the Spaniards.
Primarily, one of the impacts that came about from the European colonization on Native Americans
was the proliferation of disease. In Europe, people commonly lived in filth and bacteria because
they didn't pay much attention to the importance of proper hygiene. However, in the Americas,
people were isolated from the rest of the world and weren't surrounded by the rubbish that
Europeans had incorporated in their livelihood. Also, because the Native Americans were somewhat
advanced in medical technology, they didn't have to worry too much about people dying from
treacherous diseases. It states, " By contrast, the people of the Americas had spent thousand of years
in biological isolation. By the time Columbus had arrived,

All throughout history European Americans have been known to be conquerors. They conquered the
US by taking over the land that rightfully belonged to the Native American Indians. There were no
apologies made for this conquer, it simply took place. Derald Wing Sue and David Sue (2003),
conducted several interviews asking people what it meant to be "white" or European American.

The Views of Native Americans and Europeans Essay
The Views of Native Americans and Europeans During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the
Europeans started to come over to the new world, they discovered a society of Indians that was
strikingly different to their own. To understand how different, one must first compare and contrast
some of the very important differences between them, such as how the Europeans considered the
Indians to be extremely primitive and basic, while, considering themselves civilized. The Europeans
considered that they were model societies, and they thought that the Indians society and culture
should be changed to be very similar to their own. The Europeans and the Indians had very
contrasting ideas of personal wealth and ownership. The Europeans ... Show more content on

For Europeans, the to be a member of a family you had to be related to the eldest male in the
household. This was a total opposite to the Indian society. For example, in the Iroquois society,
family membership was determined by the family of the female. At the head of each family was an
elder woman, followed by her daughter, their husbands and children, and finally her unmarried
granddaughters and grandsons. When one of the men married, he moved to the family of his wife.
This was a very sharp contrast to the Europeans, whom had for centuries, been the top of their social
hierarchy. In Europe, the women had a very relatively primitive, limited role in society. They were
not allowed to attend or partake in political affairs, with very few exceptions. Now, on the other
hand, in Indian society there was a council of chiefs, whom was all male, but they were appointed
by an elder women. Also, during their deliberation over issues, the males made the final decision,
but would be expelled from the council, if they didn?t conclude to the same decision that the elder
woman came to. The women's main job in Indian society, was being in charge of cultivation of,
harvest of, and distribution of food. When the men left to go hunting, women were left to run
society. The Europeans simply believed that the males were far superior to the family, which is why
women could not have jobs, and were left to

African American And European Descent
Dabney is an African–American and European descent whose parents went to a segregated school in
Virginia. His great–grandmother of three generations before him were free blacks before the Civil
War, but during the war lived in fear that they would be kidnapped and forced to submit to slavery,
thus living in constant fear. His grandfather of three generations before him was a white slave
owner. This side of the family is where Dabney has a connection with past family members that
were Confederate soldiers and members of the Virginia 1861 Secession Convention. His belief is
that the Confederate flag represents the men who died at such battles like Manassas, Shiloh, and
Gettysburg. He believes that the flag has been a representation of white supremacists groups in
America but to deny the historical value of the Confederate flag would just be as wrong as the white
supremacists. Dabney's belief is that people cannot ignore prejudice or the symbol of prejudice by
the flag, but that removing the flag from public display will not stop the white supremacists, or the
prejudice that they adhere to. He believes that removing the flags would not stop the country from
jailing more minorities than whites, and that this country needs to serve its people by resolving these
problems with real congressional help and by cultural change and education and not by arguing over
a piece of fabric. Historian Lars Prillaman belief is that the Confederate Battle flag should not be

European Differences Of The Native American And European...

  • 1. European Differences Of The Native American And European... Cassie Reyna Section 28 October 27, 2017 Native American and European Differences The Native American and European Civilizations interacted a lot when Europeans started colonizing. Although the Natives and Europeans shared the same land their government systems, economy, and technology differed greatly. Factors that contributed to these differences included the king and resources. The King regulated European countries controlling them under the constitution. As a mother country, Britain was able to control all of its colonies; because of this, the crown played a major role in distinguishing European Civilization from the Natives. Government systems were different for Native Americans and Europeans. In Europe people answered to the King and Parliament. Parliament made decisions, enforced taxes, and made laws. The wealthy, land–owning, white men always held government positions (Lecture, Chapter 4). Because of this, European governments were often corrupt and most of the time only benefited the wealthy white man (Lecture, Chapter 4). The government was focused on increasing the wealth and amount of land they could gain. The King`s desire for resources such as: land, gold, and silver had impacted the government, by making wealth the main reason behind government decisions. Native American governments differed from those of Europeans because they did not have a King; instead, they had chiefs (Oakes, 2017, 16). The Chiefs "regulated relations among the tribal chiefdoms" (Oakes, 2017, 20).Unlike the Kings for European, the Chiefs didn`t act as a dictator. Instead, they had societies with "loose aggregates of villages which recognized no central authority" (Cicarelli, 2012, 88). The Natives were much more lenient with power resulting in more freedom. Although natives didn`t have a written constitution, they had rules which the tribes were supposed to abide by. An example of a rule would be that if an outside tribe killed a member it would be considered a declaration of war (Oakes, 2017, 43). The Chiefs had the power to decide compromises and allies. (Oakes, 2017, 44) Unlike the Europeans, the Natives had more say and free will to make their own decisions. Their government had no king and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. European People: The Conflicts Between Native Americans... From around 1500 to 1700, the European people were constantly trying to confiscate the American lands, which left the Native Americans feeling ambushed. The Native Americans were caught off guard because for the longest time they saw the land as if no one owned it, and it was there for everyone to use. Native Americans were more into sharing the land, whereas the Europeans were just there to buy it and capture it from them. The four main groups that captured the lands from the Natives were the Spanish, Virginians, New Englanders, and Pennsylvania. Although some people had conflicts with the Native Americans, each group had a different interaction with them, some of them leading into honorable relationships. • 5. The European Impact on Native American Technology Essay The European Impact on Native American Technology When European exploration led to the populating of the Americas, it was described as the event with one of the greatest ecological impacts in history. The force behind this impact was the mass movement of people and their behavior's toward their "New World". It only stands to reason that a clash would occur with the natives of these lands. One of the areas with the greatest conflict was the field of technology. Scientifically, when the cultures of 15th century Europe and the natives in the Americas are concerned, the two are fairly alike. In Europe,a great deal of work was done in astronomy. Of course this was because it was a necessity for navigation. From the studies of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, there was no real understanding of the human body and how it functioned. At this period in time, such remedies as using leeches for blood–lettings were common practice in Europe(McGovern, 75). This is one area which contrasts greatly with the native cultures. The Indians of the Americas were far ahead of the Europeans of their time. Because of the closeness and respect for nature, many natural cures were used. The Aztecs had even gone as far as surgery to remove organs and even work on the brain. The Indians also took much better care of themselves pysically. This was done by a better diet and exercise. In some cultures a type of martial arts was taught beginning in adolesence, to keep in shape both mentally and pysically. Despite all of these advancements, they were powerless to the new and unfamilliar European diseases. Another area in which the Indians thrived was that of agriculture and their understanding of the earth. Europeans had little knowledge of agriculture, or chose not to use what they did have. Europe was in a state of agricultural depression. Most of the soil was completely exhausted due to overuse and general mistreatment of the land. Both activities which continued in America. Agriculture served as the material foundation for the natives. Corn was the heart of this foundation because it was so versatile. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. European Colonization and African American Development European Colonization and African American Development During the period of 1885–1905, as Africa was divided into 55 small states, an era of economic tug–of–war between the British and the French known as "The Scramble for Africa" became the target of prosperity. While campaigned to end slavery and all affiliations with the slave trade, this method of colonial rule not only effectively controlled various territories, but also altered the lives of indigenous African people. Through tactics of indirect and direct control performed by the Europeans, land was seized in the midst of turmoil between the opposing parties as imperialism was established in the continent of profitable resources. As a significant and major impairment in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The thingification of indigenous African people equates to European colonization in a way that inevitably works to the disadvantage of the oppressor's victims. Despite the difference between French and British colonialism, the impact on blacks remained the same, and is clearly displayed through the gradual assimilation with each foreign group. Their actions reinforced slavery in a new light of mental captivity, which was the very thing that Europeans sought out to destroy as redeemers of the new land. Africans were not allowed to maintain any connection to their original cultures at all, and were even placed in positions as elite French leaders to represent examples of what they could one day potentially become. Black slavery, ingrained racial prejudice against blacks, and, after its partition by European powers, the necessity to rid Africa of colonial rule and exploitation, are all factors of what eventually provided for the stimulus to the pan–African idea and action (Lynch, 32). This new wave of liberation is what motivated blacks to make a change for the better, and sought to unite separated Africans in the struggle for freedom. Africa for Africans, as this philosophy came to be known, called for an end to decolonization, and a start to the emergence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

European Relations With Native Americans Robert Bossong History II Honors Mr. Hartwell 3/2/16 European Relations with Native Americans As the Europeans arrived on American shores, they encountered a variety of native peoples. Some were living in advanced civilizations; others were living as simple hunter–gatherer cultures. By the time of the first European contact, in 1492, European settlers interacted with the native peoples in different ways. The Spanish ruled the natives as conquered people, forcing many to work on agricultural estates. The French developed a harmonious relationship with the natives. The English approach fell somewhere between the two polar European powers. The Spanish settled in present–day Mexico and Peru; they encountered the advanced civilizations of the Aztec and Inca Empires. After diseases wiped out most of the native population, millions survived. The Spanish incorporated the survivors as laborers for their own empire. Eventually, after forced labor, the survivors died from exhaustion. Few Spanish families settled the empire so the group of explorers and soldiers intermarried with the natives. After enslaving indigenous peoples in the Caribbean and the southern parts of the Americas to grow crops and mine for gold, silver, and other valuables, the Spanish moved into North America where they concentrated their efforts in what is now the southwestern and southeastern United States. The European Union (EU) and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) both consists of twenty–seven countries that makes it the largest trading bloc in the world. Based on the 2008 figure, the value of the exports of goods/services from European Union to NAFTA was 639. One billion Canadian dollars while the import of goods/services to the European Union from the NAFTA was amounted to 513.9 billion Canadian dollars. Two trade blocs are also highly interdependent by the means of FDI. In 2007, the value of inflows of FDI NAFTA from EU was about 1.77 trillion Canadian dollars and 1.63 trillion Canadian dollars from NAFTA to EU respectively. Mexico heavily relies on the European Union market as well; after the United States the EU is the second most important trading partner to Mexico. EU and Mexico do have an established free trade agreement that came into effect as of 2000. Although Mexico still imposes tariffs and quotas on certain products such as meat and dairy, the EU and Mexico partnership is still one of the most comprehensive in the world's economy. • 15. European Influence On Native Americans Although Native Americans would have grown and prospered after ejecting European colonists from the New World, it would be foolish to assume that European nations would never breach the Americas. While it is true that Europeans would be unable to overpower a fully intact Native American presence, eventually, Europeans would seize the Americas the same way they conquered not only Africa, but Asia as well. As time passed, technology boomed, and the Industrial Revolution mechanized the European world. With their newly invigorated might, the chasm separating European technology and that of the rest of the world split wider. With innovations including railroads, telegraphs, advanced firearms such as the Gatling gun, steam engines, and sophisticated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These systems required labor in order to operate. Originally, European colonists utilized native labor, but seeing as Native Americans quickly perished as a result of disease, colonists resorted to importing laborers from Africa. The necessity of African slavery in the American colonies became the reason for the largest forced migration in history, as at least 12 million Africans were carried across the Atlantic between the years 1500 and 1860, when the Atlantic slave trade was ended. The Middle Passage, the journey from Africa to the New World across the Atlantic, was responsible for the deaths of nearly 2 million African slaves since slave–carrying boats were often filthy and overcrowded, unscrupulously jampacked with human cargo in an effort to utilize the boat's capacity and to increase the efficiency and profit of each trip (Gates). Had Native Americans been immune to European pathogens, they would have prevented any large–scale European settlements from occurring in the Americas; therefore, plantations, mines, and other labor–intensive projects would be impractical for European explorers, and the necessitation of slave labor would be nonexistent. As a result, the largest forced migration in world history would be avoided. Even after Europe underwent the Industrial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. European Influences On Latin American Culture I found it very interesting that, as it mentioned in the beginning of the chapter, Latin American culture is so closely tied with European and African culture. However, I can see why since Spanish colonies, Portugal, and other places interacted with Latin America even so far as to leave an influence on their language, and black slaves were brought to parts of Latin America to be imported. One musical feature that the Europeans helped to incorporate into Latin America music is the singing with their languages. In fact, we learned in the reading that the Quichua language incorporated some Spanish into it. Most of the Latin American songs that I've heard are sung in Spanish, although this isn't to say that what I've heard is best representative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The European Union (EU) vs the North American Free Trade... The European Union (EU) vs the North American Free Trade Agreement Introduction The European Union (EU) is the organization which integrates the countries listed below, both politically and economically. It is a customs union, which is an agreement amongst a group of countries to eliminate trade barriers between them on the movement of goods, services, labor and capital, and also to establish a common external tariff on goods and services coming into the union. The EU evolved from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), which was formed in 1951 as a response to the First and Second World Wars to try to ensure future peace in Europe. This became the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1965, which in turn became the European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, the ideological foundations that gave birth to the EU were based on ensuring development and maintaining international stability, i.e., the containment of communist expansion in post World War II Europe (Hunt 1989). The Maastricht Treaty which gave birth to the EU in 1992 included considerations for joint policies in regard to military defense and citizenship. Trading blocs could strongly affect a company's investment decision. This particular trading bloc development prompted Ford to realise it could consider Europe to be one common market rather than a collection of individual markets. In 1967, Ford changed its management structure to include its European operations under one umbrella organisation known as Ford Europe Incorporated. Its two large U.K. and German manufacturing centres remained an important dimension of the new strategy, but they were no longer considered separate, independently operating companies. Despite nationalistic tendencies on the part of the host–country management, Ford decided that, from the companies perspective, it was best to eliminate national boundaries, and a German director said, The pooling of the two companies cut the engineering bill in half for each company, provided economies of scale, with double the volume in ... American Football Vs European Football American football vs European football (soccer) On November 1869, Princeton and Rutgers played the first intercollegiate football game in New Brunswick, New Jersey, using a soccer–style game with rules adapted from the London Football Association (Michael Oriard 2017). American football is a combination of two English sport, rugby and soccer. In term of popularity, soccer is most popular sport in the world, whereas American football is only popular in the United States. American Football is a very expensive sport due to the amount of gear you must wear and their expenses. To play American Football you need a Helmet to protect your head against concussion, Shoulder and Chest pad protector, upper leg padding and mouth guard. According to a research, the University of Nebraska spends $1,000 on average to equip each football player for a game. (Cork Gaines 2012). All those protections do not prevent injuries. Conversely, in soccer, you only need shin guard to protect your shin. The expenses of the gears and the equipment can be the reason why American football is only played in united states. Duration in sports activities may result in an uninteresting game or enjoyable to watch. The third difference between soccer and Football is the time limit. American football has in total of 60 minutes, with 4 quarters and each quarter is 15 minutes, after the second quarter the referee announce a long break, the game is not constant like soccer, basket or hockey, On the other hand, soccer has 90 minutes in total, with a break after the first half and both half long 45 minutes, at the end the referee adds an additional time for the time lost. • 23. European Colonization Of Europeans And Native Americans After Columbus sailed the blue ocean in fourteen hundred ninety–two, the New World encountered catastrophic epidemics from the European conquest. The spread of diseases between Europeans and Native Americans led to a demographic calamity. The earliest explorations from European countries introduced a plethora of diseases; these diseases hindered the Native's population and way of life. Not only early explorations of European countries impacted the indigenous people, but the settlement and encounters with Europeans in the twentieth century did as well. Before Europeans voyaged to the New World, the lands were occupied by Native Americans for thousands of years, but Europeans for centuries regarded themselves as the first to discover the Americas. Relations between the Native Americans and Europeans were often difficult. The Europeans saw the natives as savage heathens to be Christianized, and considered the land unexploited and ripe for colonization. The Italian explorer Christopher Columbus opened the way for European exploration of the New World. During Christopher Columbus's (1451–1506) voyages to the Western Hemisphere, the monarchs of Western European nations sent explorers seeking a faster, more direct passage to Asia. Although these explorers failed in this mission, they helped map out a rich land for Europeans to control and colonize. English exploration was different from Spain, Portugal, and France. • 25. The Native Americans And The Europeans When the Europeans conquered the Native Americans; both groups had little understanding of each other, especially their cultures. The Native Americans had a rich through history that allowed them to be almost as developed as the Europeans. However, the Europeans overlooked this because the Native Americans had not established the same man–made medical and agricultural developments as the Europeans. Conversely, the Native Americans thought that the Europeans were too concerned with dead objects, and took their land for granted. There are many controversial debates over who was worse: the Native Americans or the Europeans, yet, it's evident that warfare, ritual torture, and cruelty were apparent in both societies. The Europeans had not known what the Native Americans had achieved, and the struggles they'd overcome. The history of the Native Americans began in Siberia. Many scholars hypothesize that the first Americans came from Siberia and traveled into Alaska. The colder climate of the Ice Age made an ice bridge across what is now the Bering Strait. Unfortunately, the bridge started to melt without warning, causing the people in Alaska to become trapped. A group of Native Americans known as today 's' Navajo and Apache came to the rescue when their construction of boats advanced and allowed them to be durable enough to travel across the strait. These Athabascan–speaking people traveled from Canada and later reached the American southwest. The Paleo–Indians were next to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. European And American Indian Interactions Ripon Ali Professor James Boles September 20, 2014 U.S. History Origins 24000 European and American Indian Interactions The dominant themes of early European and American Indian interactions were trade, warfare, and religion. According to the Created Equal 2nd Edition textbook, the first interaction that took place between the Europeans and the American Indians was in 1492, which was the year when Christopher Columbus first landed in America. (1.Borstlelman, Jones, May, Ruiz, Wood, pg 11) When Columbus first came to America his way of interacting with the American Indians would define theme of interactions for a long period to come. Amazed by the gold that was to be found from the American Indians and the common belief at that time that the "whole world is the rightful inheritance of Christianity." Columbus and his followers set to rule the American Indians and impose Christianity on them. Having more advanced warfare than the American Indians, early Europeans enslaved and robbed them of their land and possessions. Due to the European diseases that were brought, most island populations of American Indians became extinct. Therefore, in search for more labor Europeans moved to explore the mainland. The French trade increased mainly because of the Indian's ability to procure beaver pelts. Furthermore, without the Indian's cooperation, the Europeans could not carry its trade in furs and skins. • 33. Differences Between Europeans And Americans In this time era it is easy to tell that the Europeans was the strongest and best when in comparism to the Americans and Africans. Sure there may have been a couple of systems where they were the same but the Europeans were superior in every way. In fact this was the reason why took over the Americans and Africans and taking thier goods. The political, economic, and religous system of the europeans was the best and that's why after contact the Americans and Africans had to follow the Euoropean ways. The first system that I am going to talk about is the political system. All three countries actually have a very similar system and that is being ruled by monarchs. The only difference is that the Americans and Africans are living like Indians. The Europeans on the other hand are living more like civilized people who then venture out and ecounter themselves with the Americans and Africans. This is where most of the differences will come. The Americans and Africans had the same thing in common and that is that they were either animists or had no religion at all. Also they would respect the spirits that had died and offered sacrifices to make their hunt or crops successful. • 35. American Indians And Europeans Americans American Indians verses Europeans Europeans came over to America in 1492 changing the way the Natives lived forever. These natives were living peaceful and happy lives. The Europeans came over to these innocent people's land who were minding their own business; calling them savages, killed their people, and destroying the perfect lives they once had. There are many accounts recorded on how the Indians and Europeans felt about the discovery of America. The Natives believed they had a very sophisticated society before the Europeans showed up; but the Europeans believed the natives did not know how to live and that they need their help to learn how to live the "correct" and "godly" way. With these in mind there is no way these two cultures could live in harmony unless they both decided to learn from one another. The problem with this is the Europeans never gave the natives the chance to have their own beliefs and the Natives could never teach the Europeans what they knew because the Europeans believed everything the natives did was wrong. The Europeans believed the Indians were lazy, non–deserving savages who were on land that was "given" to the Europeans by God. They thought that God had taken them to the new land because they were running out of resources in Europe. The Europeans saw the Natives as a resource along with everything they had on the new land. The first and foremost reason is that these countries are small and the economy of the one country can be integrated with the economy of the other country. European Union as it has been called now has been the most developed model of the regional integration though challenged by economic crisis now a days. James uses these circumstances to depict the differences between Europeans and Americans. The Americans tend to be frightened of the Europeans, since they seem quite foreign within the puritanical American community. On the other hand, the Europeans are surprised by the Americans' provincial ways. Reaction to the unfamiliar is a central element of the novel. Each character's reaction to the unfamiliar reveals his or her personality and also determines whom that character is capable of tolerating and of loving. It is during this fantasy that Gertrude first meets Felix. Felix is as open to the unknown as Gertrude, having traveled around in Europe because he could never stay in one place. He also changes quickly; instead of thinking of tradition he adapts to whatever culture is around him: "Felix, who learned all things quickly, had already learned that the silences frequently observed among his new acquaintances were not necessarily restrictive or resentful"(34). Gertrude and Felix are both outgoing and do not have a strong sense of tradition and duty because they would rather change atmospheres than be bound by the one they presently live in. However, others in the novel do not welcome variation in their lives as do Gertrude and Felix. Charlotte and Mr. Brand are both vehemently opposed to change. They like to uphold tradition, and would rather keep their lives calm than take a risk. Charlotte is always concerned with duty, and thus takes this attitude when her foreign cousins come to visit. James depicts the situation: It was an extension of duty, of the exercise of the more recondite virtues; but neither Mr. Wentworth, nor Charlotte, not Mr. Brand, who, among these excellent people, was a great promoter of reflection and aspiration, frankly adverted to it as an extension of enjoyment. • 41. The Consequences Of The European Colonization Of Native... European Colonization was rapidly expanded after Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer arrived in the Americas. The start of the Colonization is dated to 1492. The European Colonization of the Americas was a tragedy because, the Native Americans were living a peaceful life and the arrival of Europeans has led to the devastation of indigenous communities through diseases, violence and dispossession. The most harmful consequences of the European Settlement to the Native Americans was the transfer of diseases. Europeans brought diseases such as small pox, measles and influenza. This had destructive consequences for native Americans who could not fight these diseases as they did not possess immunity. They had no time to recover from these epidemic diseases and started dying quickly. Small pox spread from tribe to tribe along the trade routes. Thus, within a century, diseases have reduced indigenous populations by as much as 95% making matters worse. "The Epidemic took years to exhaust itself and may have killed 90% of the people in coastal New England. This made a huge difference to American History." (Mann, 1491) The drastic death of so many Native Americans decimated the supply of labors who were working under the Europeans in the Americas. One of the reasons for death was that most Native Americans were not experienced for many bacterial diseases so, they had little or no knowledge on how to combat them. The Europeans were symbolic in their way of innocence, they were the true inheritors of the Garden of Eden before the fall. Exploring deeper into the Europeans symbolic meaning, I discovered that the tendency of Europeans to sentimentalize the earliest Americans were always correlated by a tendency to be brutal and exploit them. • 45. The Between Europeans And Native Americans The interactions between Europeans and Native Americans have not always been positive. There are numerous difference that interactions between the two groups. Europeans were known as a group that during the 16th and 17th century, made a great deal of change with their religious views. They were once without religion, but were known to turn to sects like Christianity and Puritanism. The Native Americans were a group known to be without religion. These people did not believe it one God and a book to follow. They believed in various higher beings that oversaw things like hunting, crops and sacrifices. These spirits didn't represent a sense of hope or something to look forward as did being a Christian. William Bradford and Mary White Rowlandson were two religious people who came from England to the new world in order to seek new opportunities in their religious pilgrimage. Upon their arrival to Massachusetts, they lived in settlements were next to Native establishments. Both women told stories of the horrors that the Natives put upon them. William Bradford's belief is Puritanism lead him on a voyage with others to Massachusetts. His encounter with the Natives, although not completely negative, was bias based on his beliefs. • 49. Essay On Europeans And Native Americans The unexpected encounter between the Europeans and the Natives had the huge impact on the technology, economic, and population of the Natives. I think that the encounter between the Europeans and the natives had a negative and positive impacts in different ways. Because of the encounter between them Americans built a strong economy and it increased the population in the New World. This helped America because it helped the people to farm and increase their trading between the other countries. I feel that the unexpected encounter between the Europeans and the Natives had an extremely negative for having powerful weapons and spreading diseases such as smallpox, also for killing people. One example that was negative for the Natives was the Europeans spread smallpox to the natives which it decreased the population in the New World. These very first interactions were mostly positive due to the the generosity of the Indians but turned violent when the Europeans began to mistreat, kidnap, enslave, and kill the American Indians. Actions taken by the American Indians and European Colonists, especially actions of violence, during the 1600s caused the relationship between the two parties to be negative and conflicting in New England and Chesapeake. In New England, John Winthrop began conflicts early when he declared that the Indians had only a natural right to their land and no legal right. The Puritans and Pequot Indians lived side by side with relative peace until an attack was launched upon the Narraganset Indians. Not many people were killed and the Narragansets did not fight back, but when the Puritans attacked the Pequot Indians, they fought back. The Pequot War was one of large massacres, rather than battles, from both sides and had many deaths. "Mason proposed to avoid attacking Pequot warriors, which would have overtaxed his unseasoned, unreliable troops. Battle, as such, was not his purpose. Battle is only one of the ways to destroy an enemy's will to fight. Massacre can accomplish the same end with less risk, and Mason had determined that massacre would be his objective" (Jennings). From the introduction of new crops and items to the alteration in gender roles, the clashing of two completely different cultures had a lasting impact. When Europeans first settled in America, there were many obstacles along the way. There was a struggle for survival and fortunately, the natives were present to help by teaching the Europeans how to grow crops, fish, and hunt. Farming allowed for the introduction of foreign crops such as corn, potatoes, and beans into their diets which improved their health and extended their life. The gathering of nuts and berries also became a part of their diet. Hunting and fishing eventually became a way of life for some Europeans and led to competition for forest resources with natives. Climate differences caused the European clothing to experience minimal change with clothing commonly used by the Indians being incorporated into the European style due to its practicality. Men began wearing moccasins, leggings, and hunting shirts for comfort as well as a form of stating cultural mobility but overall the style didn't stick. Transport was also an issue in the beginning but was soon addressed by Indian snowshoes, canoes, and toboggans, which aided Europeans when it came to transporting manufactured products and people as well as infiltrating further into the country. European explorers sought wealth, adventure, and spreading the Christian religion (Scott et al., 2006). As explorers went forth, they introduced the European culture which brought warfare and diseases that severely depleting the native populations. Most of the cultural differences occurred between the Native Americans and the Europeans that had newly settled in what is known today as America. Some of the most notable differences were those of religion, political, economic, and social. These differences divided the habitants of America in several ways and formed many bonds but also brought them to many moments of conflict. For example, the Powhatan tribe had traded its corn with the Virginia colony to show that they were the more powerful force but this led to the First Anglo–American War (1610–1614). When trading with the Europeans, the Native Americans often contracted many foreign diseases; for example: smallpox, typhoid, and dysentery. These diseases were often to blame for the Native American's losses during the early settlement of the Americas by the Europeans. The more people that the Native Americans lost, the weaker the tribe became and the easier it was for the Europeans to take over their land. When Henry Hudson sailed up the Hudson River, he claimed land from the Mohawk tribe. This was in exchange for fur, which established the Fur Trade. Producing only what the tribe needed allowed the tribes to be self–sufficient. The Europeans mass produced everything because they were focused on exportation. The Europeans would focus on one single product to produce to export but then found the need to trade with others to obtain what they needed to survive. An example is the production of tobacco. The tobacco planters had need for more land. They slowly took over some of the Native American land. The Native Americans got really upset and killed five hundred of one colony's people. • 59. Native American And European Colonization Mary Mediatrix Ortiz Dr. Seekatz HIST17A 9 November 2017 TITLE There were initially two to ten million natives in the United States prior to European contact. Those numbers dwindled down drastically in the years that Europeans came and started colonizing. The Europeans came to explore the New World in search of land, spices, gold, God and glory. Among these colonists were the Spanish who colonized most of the southwest of the United States. Evidence of their settlements can still be seen today in the missions scattered across the land. These missions were started with the purpose of converting the Native Americans to Christianity. Try to put yourself into the shoes of the Native Americans, imagine living your entire life with a particular set of beliefs, based on what was handed down by your ancestors and culture. Then suddenly a group of foreigners would come and proclaim that your views are all wrong and that you must follow their beliefs for the salvation of your soul. This is exactly what the Spanish colonizers did to the Native Americans as they invaded their territory which is the reason why the relationship between the two parties were strained and rife with tension. The conversion of the Natives and the constant hostility by the Spanish conquerors subsequently led to the disintegration of native life and culture. Smallpox was among the most common viral disease that wiped out entire populations of Native Americans. When elders and leaders of tribes would die of disease, traditions and ceremonies to be lost with them. The unique languages in native cultures died with the villages that came into contact with European disease. Religion was impacted by disease in a way that wasn't simply elimination. While some beliefs died with infected tribes, others were forgotten due to a lack of faith. When the healing ceremonies of a tribe failed to cure the ill, many natives lost faith in their beliefs. Another factor of this was caused by European immunity. Due to previous exposure, Europeans, who were also Christians, did not contract smallpox and measles at such an alarming rate. The success of conversion varied based on the native people, but it had the same effect overall. The attempted conversion to Christianity resulted in much of the religious beliefs of the Native Americans to fade away. Religion and spirituality were a very large part of their cultures, and the drive to convert the natives nearly eliminated it. • 63. The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low–skilled poor migrants face hostility in many European nations, as anti–immigration policies and laws are being implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the limelight over the banning of burqa's in European countries, and the effects these policies will have on future immigration to Europe (Glazer, 2010). In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims? While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh (Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010). Why do experts believe anti–immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue that the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the populace's fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national identity–which some ... • 65. European And Native American Beliefs The history of Native American religion is influenced by exposure to Europeans, the beliefs of different tribes, and traditions that were passed down orally. When the Europeans came to America they impacted the Native American religions in many different ways. The Native Americans had to adapt to Europeans, but they also kept to their original ways. Even before the adaptations, the Native Americans and Europeans had similarities including: believing one god and one main evil spirit, believing in an afterlife, and they both believed in the immortality of the soul. Even though the Natives believed in one god, "Master Spirit", unlike the Europeans, they believed that the god could assume a variety of forms and both genders; Native Americans also believed in many lesser spirits. Other differences were that Natives passed their beliefs down verbally instead of documenting everything in a book or books. As a result of exposure to Europeans, Native American traditions gradually intermixed with Christian beliefs. One example of the influence of Christianity on Native American rituals is the adaptations to the Sun Dance. Before the Sun Dance was primarily practiced in the Upper Plains and the Rocky Mountains and performed at the summer solstice. The dance was often practiced differently for each tribe, but the Eagle, helping bring body and spirit in harmony, is an important symbol for all tribes. • 67. The European Domination Of Native Americans Many prominent historians argue a clash between culture and religious philosophy was the primary cause of conflict between European settlers in North America and Native Americans. However, a closer analysis of American history suggests otherwise. While a clash in cultures and religious differences did exist, the European domination of Native Americans was primarily fueled by European economic motivations, a desire for valuable natural resources and a craving to expand the American colonial system. Due to this, the conflict was inevitable. Before Europeans ever ventured to North America, the land had been populated by Native American nations that had their own distinct cultures and social structures. Native Americans had trade routes and established complex relationships between tribes. They were not merely heathens waiting to be civilized by the Europeans. Yet, Europeans would use those justifications to lay claim on their land. To better understand the conflict between the Europeans and the Native Americans, one must closely examine the state of Europe's economy at the time. Europe struggled with difficult conditions. This included poverty, violence and diseases like typhus, smallpox, influenza and measles. There were widespread famines which caused the prices of products to vary and made life very difficult in Europe. Street crimes and violence were prevalent in cities: "Other eruption of bizarre torture, murder, and ritual cannibalism were not uncommon".2 Europeans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Impact Of European Colonization On Native Americans The European Colonization of the Americas initiated in 1492 when Spanish explorer and navigator, Christopher Columbus sailed the sea to the New World. Their main motivation was to probe new trade routes, spread Catholicism and earn recognition and stardom for discoveries made similar to the findings that came from the conquest of the Aztecs and Incas. The English then established permanent settlement in the New World and interacted with the indigenous people that were already living there. This was found to have a detrimental effect on the Native Americans because Europeans brought dangerous diseases such as smallpox to the Americas. Also, natives were imperialized, forced to give up their vibrant culture and take up the lifestyle of the Spaniards. Primarily, one of the impacts that came about from the European colonization on Native Americans was the proliferation of disease. In Europe, people commonly lived in filth and bacteria because they didn't pay much attention to the importance of proper hygiene. However, in the Americas, people were isolated from the rest of the world and weren't surrounded by the rubbish that Europeans had incorporated in their livelihood.
