Why Do Monarch Butterflies Move
Mexico was once the locations where large colonies of monarch butterflies migrated to. However in
the recent years the size of the colonies have began to shrink. The monarch butterflies tend to
hibernate in the winter in reserve forests. It is believed one reason for the decline of monarch
butterflies migrating to the reserve forests in Mexico is because of the number of insects in these
forests had increased along with the destruction of these forrest. Another reason for monarch
butterflies migrating to these different areas is to follow their food source which is the milkweed.
The milkweed was at one time found in large numbers through out Canda. However due to climate
changes throughout North America which included freezing teperatures and

The Monarch Butterfly Extinction
The monarch butterfly is something that we all have known and loved ever since we were children.
During the present time, the monarch butterflies are becoming extinct. Due to human and natural
activities, the monarchs population has been declining for two decades. Delaware and its citizens are
taking action to save the monarchs from extinction. The monarch takes on a long migration from
America and Canada to Mexico during the winter (vice versa). The monarch lives in three distinct
population areas. People in Delaware are working hard to save an American icon.
The monarch butterfly travels long distances to get to their nesting grounds. The monarch's
migration takes a total of 3000 miles. Their nesting grounds is located in the Sierra

Butterfly Effect On Monarchs
Monarchs have been in danger for the longest time because of all the global warming we cause. One
of the many effects of global warming is climate change. The change in the climate can affect the
Monarch Butterflies' migration and the life cycle,so we have to limit the amount of littering and
pollution.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Monarch Butterfly is the most known butterfly because of its colored wings that warns its
predators that it is poisonous. It is found throughout all of North America. The Monarch Butterfly
can't fly with a body temperature less than 86 degrees ,so they flap their wings and sit in the sun in
order to keep warm. The milkweed is the Monarch's main food source. The milkweed has many
positive effects on the Monarch Butterfly. For example, the butterfly lays the eggs on the plants ,and
the milkweed gives the poisonous taste to the predators when the caterpillar eats it. The Monarch lay
their eggs on the milkweed plant. They usually lay one egg on the plant which is the size of a pencil
tip. The yellow or white eggs start to hatch after four days. The female butterflies lay 300–500 eggs
through two to five weeks of the process of laying eggs. The next step in the life cycle is the larvae.
This is the stage where the monarchs do all of the growing. The caterpillar has many parts that help
it survive. Once the caterpillar gets older it starts to shed off its skin. The first part to shed off is the
head. The skin starts growing back into the caterpillar

Persuasive Essay On Butterflies
You have decided to release butterflies at your wedding. Do not wait too long to look for a farmer to
purchase your butterflies. It takes approximately 4 to 5 weeks to raise the butterflies. You want to
make sure that you are able to purchase the type and quantity of butterflies that you would like. So it
is a good idea to start looking at least 3 months or more in advance and reserve your butterflies,
preferably 4 to 6 weeks in advance. Most farmers ask that ½ be paid to reserve the butterflies and
the remainder is due approximately 2 weeks before the event.
When you are looking for butterflies, you will find that there are up to 9 different types that the
government allows to be shipped across state lines. Check "Which Butterflies can Be ... Show more

Its colors are an orange–brown, with black markings along with some white markings on its upper
wings. They are not as expensive as the Monarch. They also are a smaller butterfly, with a wing
span of 2 – 2 7/8 inches. They do work well in displays because of their size and they seem to be
happy in smaller areas.
Black Swallowtails – Black Swallowtails are a beautiful butterfly. They have a wing span of about 3
¼" – 4 ¼". They are mostly black with males having a yellow band near the edge of their wings.
Females have a row of yellow spots and a iridescent blue band. They have tails that can be easily
broken. Also, if handled too much, their color does come off. These are raised by more butterfly
farmers, but still not by a majority of them. You may be able to use these in a mixed release.
American Painted Lady – The American Painted Lady looks very similar to the Painted Lady. It has
less white markings on its upper wings. Not as many farmers raise this type though, and you may

According to National Geographic monarch butterflies travel up to 3,000 miles each fall to their
wintering site in central Mexico. In 2004, an estimated 550 million completed the winter migration,
while in 2003 only 33 million arrived. Further, between 2012 and 2013, there was a 43.7 percent
decrease in the area occupied by the butterflies in the winter sanctuaries, the decline has numerous
reasons: climate change, deforestation, and habitat loss, agricultural use of pesticides and herbicides

The Butterfly Life Cycle
According to National Geographic the four generations of these butterflies are constituted by 4
separate butterflies that complete the 4 unique phases in just one year. After this, they restart the
same cycle, commencing with the primary stage of the first generation.
Stage 1
February and March: Locate a mate and search for an ideal place to lay their eggs
Stage 2
March–April: They lay their eggs on the leaves of milkweed plants. The larvae eat, grow and
metamorphose into chrysalis.
Stage 3
May–June: The third generation butterflies live out a life–cycle like the first generation. They then
perish about fifteen days after metamorphosing into spectacular adult butterflies.
Stage 4
This generation repeats the processes the other generations of Monarch butterflies underwent, but
with the one crucial difference of traveling to California through Mexico to enjoy the warmer
climate there. They live for six to eight months until they again get ready to undertake the return.
The Migration
How these butterflies take a particular direction for migration is an unsolved mystery of our
generation. They fly at speeds ranging between 12 to 25 miles an hour. Similar to the migrating
birds, the monarch butterflies use the clear advantage of updrafts of warm air, called thermals and
glide as they migrate, to preserve the energy required for flapping their

The monarch butterfly is one of the most familiar species, and is considered important because of its
pollinating skills. This species is most recognizable for is black, orange, and white wings. The
monarch butterflies wings change colors from orange to a deep red, from beginning to the end of
migration. This butterfly population has been decreasing over the last ten years, and are predicted to
be quasi–extinct over the next 20 years. These butterflies keep warm by opening their wings up to
the sun. Males have a different appearance than the female butterflies such as they are much bigger
in size, and the black veins on their wings are narrower than those of a female. The monarch
butterfly has six legs, but only uses four. They use their middle

Why Does The Butterfly Population Decline
butterflies are traveling pollinators that migrate over 3000 miles in the winter when the weather
begins to get cold (Smith). The National Geographic article and video by Lindsay N. Smith says that
the butterfly population has decreased 90% in size over the last twenty years (Smith). Population
decline comes from a variety of aspects, but the most impactful is the food that the caterpillars are
eating and a lack of food on their migration. Monarch caterpillars are born in milkweed plants and
eat the leaves before they grow into butterflies. In 20 years milkweed plants have dropped to 21%
the amount of that they were previously (Smith). Many scientists are attributing this to the massive
monoculture fields throughout the migration pattern that

The Monarch Butterfly : The Life Of The Monarch Butterfly
Introduction:
My project is about the monarch butterfly. I will be explaining how the monarch butterflies migrate
and how they use the earth's magnetic field to do so. The Danaus Plexippus or commonly known as
the Monarch butterfly. It such a beautiful insect, yet no one really knows about their migration and
how they use the Earth's magnetic field to do this. The Monarch Butterfly lives in more than one
place. The monarchs spend their summer and spring in Canada and the migrate south to Mexico to
escape the cold weather and snow. Most winters, this weather reaches an incredible icy temperature
of nearly –15 degrees Celsius. No one knows for sure how these fascinating insects migrate these
thousands of kilometres, but it is thought to be a combination of the Earth's magnetic field and Solar
navigation. Monarch butterflies are born as caterpillars and caterpillars feed almost entirely on
milkweed. When they have transformed into a butterfly they feed on nectar from flowers. The
monarch butterfly always goes back to a milkweed plant to lay their eggs. The milkweed plant that
caterpillars digest is a poisonous toxin. This is the reason that the butterfly tastes horrible to
predators.
Migratory path: There are two main reasons why the monarch butterflies migrate. Firstly, Monarchs
cannot survive in such low temperatures of nearly –15 degrees, and secondly, they rely on a source
of plant called milkweed, but milkweed does not grow in cold weather, and they

Monarch butterflies–scientifically called Danaus plexippus are commonly found in North America,
Central America and Australia ("Global Distribution"). This species of butterflies has become
famous due to natural phenomenon through which it migrates thousands of miles every year to
escape extreme climate changes, starvation, and longer nights. Interestingly, it takes about four
generations of monarchs to complete a round–trip migration, so most of the monarchs end up dying
to ensure their offsprings live. The migration of monarch butterflies in North America mostly consist
of traveling to Central Mexico from Canada and North American states, and covering a total of 3000
miles ("Migration"). But in the past decade, there has been a massive decline in the monarch
butterfly population, with which when approximated, can be predicted that monarch butterflies will
be extinct by 2019 (Curry and Walker). The major factors for this decline are: loss in milkweed,
change in global temperature, illegal deforestation, and use of pesticides (Price). ... Show more

The monarchs brush some pollen on the underside of their body when they try to feed of the nectar
producing plants. When they feed again on another plant on their journey, some of the pollen get
transferred to a new plant ("Butterfly Pollination"). In this manner, pollen from the north can
fertilize a flower in the south, and vice versa. This cross–pollinating phenomenon help create the
natural crossbred plants. Since pollen gets transferred from and to a lot of different species of plants,
it makes the possibility of new genetic mutations, and evolution of a species. It also increases the

Symbolism Of A Butterfly In The Holocaust
The butterfly has become a symbol for the 1.5 million children murdered in the holocaust. During
the holocaust many children were put into concentration camps, they knew they were going to die.
They carved hundreds of butterflies with their nails or stones on the walls of the prisons. I believe
these butterflies represented their souls. They had a meaning. The butterflies were supposedly a
message of hope, that despite the fact that they would be dead before long, their souls would not die.
Just like how a larva turns out into a butterfly an flies out of the cocoon, similar once they die, they
would completely come out of their suffering and hardships and once again live life in peace and
freedom. A butterfly is so awakening and charming which

Then, the caterpillar takes 9 to at least 14 days to go through five instar stages before pupating. The
first instar larva, who just got out of the egg, is solid pale green and is translucent. Next is the
second instar larva which develops a pattern of white, yellow and black transverse bands, as the
tentacles start to grow. The third instar larva has more distinct bands which is particularly on the
abdomen. And the fourth instar is based by a new banding pattern on the thorax while the white

The Butterfly And The Violin Analysis
The Life of a Butterfly
A butterfly's life starts out as a caterpillar, then a chrysalis, and finally the adult butterfly. In the
novel The Butterfly and the Violin, Adele Von Bron start her life out as a caterpillar as Austria's
sweetheart who very dependent on her family. She then became like a chrysalis, when she began to
help the Jewish family by feeding them and trying to help them escape. Towards the end of the
novel is when she transformed into a butterfly, because she had suffered with the struggles of the
camp and met Omara which helped her to become a strong and independent woman. In The
Butterfly and the Violin, Kristy Cambron uses the butterfly as a symbol to show the relation between
Adele's life and the life of a butterfly. In the beginning of the novel Adele's life is most relatable to
the caterpillar stage of the butterfly's life. She relates to a caterpillar at the beginning of the novel,
because she is just a teenager just beginning to start her adult life. By only being a teenager and she
still lives with her parents, Adele is not very independent at the moment. At this point she is making
a lot of mistakes and she is still learning a lot about life . The novel starts out with Adele's life about
her playing in the orchestra and, being known as " Austria's Sweetheart " who is dependent upon her

The Characteristics Of The Monarch Butterfly
The monarch population has decreased up to about 22 million from last year to this year. (Rice) The
monarch butterfly is an insect that is beneficial to the ecosystem ;however, their population has
decreased over the years. Poaching and farming have caused this declination ,but there are solutions
we can work with that may help the population increase once again. The monarch butterfly is known
by scientists as Danaus plexippus, which in Greek literally means "sleepy transformation." The
name evokes the species' ability to hibernate and metamorphize.(Schafer) Monarch butterflies are
indicator species just like they are pollinators as well ,and their characteristics all serve different
purposes to help them. For instance, their colorful wings consist of veins and muscles. These
features help blood circulate through their tiny bodies and allow them to be able to do move. Their
characteristics tell differences in their gender as well by their patterns. In fact, males have black dots
on their wings ,and females are a little smaller in size. Additionally, they live up to about two to six
weeks as they grow from a caterpillar to becoming an adult monarch butterfly. Their life cycle is
made up of four stages: egg, the larvae, the pupa, and the adult butterfly. It lasts about 28 to 38 days
to be able to complete the process. Their winter migration usually takes place in Mexico or Southern

When people think of a monarch butterfly they think of a small creature with wings and antennae.
But monarch butterflies are way more than that. They have beautiful colors, they go through
metamorphosis to become the beautiful butterflies they are, and they travel across the country. This
is why I believe monarch butterflies are amazing creatures.
How they become a monarch Monarchs are amazing creatures because they go threw the process of
metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the transformation of an immature form (caterpillar) into an adult
form or adult stage (butterfly). The Monarchs lay their eggs on milkweed which is the plant they eat.
Monarch butterflies do not have a live birth they are born in eggs. When the eggs hatch the larvae
come out of the shell and eat the eggshell they hatched from and they eat the milkweed the eggs
were laid on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Larvae have three distinct body parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. Their head is equipped with
a pair of antennae, an upper lip, mandibles, a lower lip, and six simple eyes called ocelli." Even with
many eyes their vision is still poor." But that is what their antennae are for. The Monarchs antennae
help them guide them because of their poor sight. "The antennae are also helpful for eating." This is
because the antennae help guide the food into the butterflies jaws. During the larvae, pupa, or
caterpillar stage the butterflies only live on Milkweed plants. The Milkweed plants glycogen toxins
which don't have any effect on the Monarchs, but this plant is poisonous to the Monarchs predators.
Monarchs eat all sections of the milkweed plant and they store the toxins in their bodies. Adult

To Pimp A Butterfly Analysis
Kendrick Lamar's third studio album, "To Pimp a Butterfly," sheds light on the struggle of achieving
rich and fame and the trials that come with. Rolling Stone and Billboard praised the album awarding
it the best album of 2015. The album depicts the difficulties of fame by putting the trials and
tribulations on display; the inability for those to adjust to their new lifestyle and the potential
temptations that creep in. "To Pimp a Butterfly" has been both a divisive and uniting factor in its
emergence in popular culture.
Kendrick Lamar grew up in the city of Compton. Lamar's father was a member of a gang in Chicago

Lamar states that "Although the butterfly and caterpillar are completely different, they are one and
the same." Caterpillars can become butterflies through metamorphosis, or in the case of Kendrick
Lamar, through finding their gifts and talents. A caterpillar only becomes a butterfly when it breaks
out of its cocoon.
The title "To Pimp a Butterfly" is in and of itself the central message Lamar is communicating with
the listener. "To Pimp a Butterfly" refers to the downfall (whether that be intellectually or
physically) of butterflies. That downfall occurs when butterflies become seduced by fame and
fortune often by their own desires or, in some cases, by their exploitation. A "pimped" butterfly
perpetuates the idea that the only lifestyle to live is one based on status and wealth.
The opening track of the album is entitled "Wesley's Theory." Wesley, in this instance, is in
reference to Wesley Snipes. Wesley Snipes is known for his income tax conviction which, when
juxtaposed onto Lamar's extended metaphor, makes him a pimped butterfly. The track divides each
of the two verses into separate perspectives. The first verse is from the caterpillars perspective in the
mindset of consumption, "I 'ma buy a brand new Caddy on fours/Trunk the hood up, two times,
deuce–four/Platinum on everythin ', platinum on weddin ' ring/Married to the game." The game
being fame and fortune. The second perspective is capitalist America represented by Uncle Sam.

The Four Stages Of Monarch Butterflies And Climate Change
Monarch Butterflies and Climate Change In 2002, the monarch population declined by 95 percent
because of a storm in Mexico. That was a very extreme and unusual weather event. That was
followed by cold temperatures, so that contact of precipitation and cold just killed all the butterflies.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION Monarch butterflies embark on a marvelous migratory
phenomenon. They travel between 1,200 and 2,800 miles or more from the United States and
Canada to central Mexican forests. Their the butterflies hibernate in the mountain forests, where a
less extreme climate provides them a better chance to survive. The four stages of the monarch
butterfly life cycle are the egg, the larvae (caterpillar), the pupa (chrysalis), and the adult butterfly.
The four generations are actually four different butterflies going through these four stages during
one year until it is time to start over again with stage one and generation one. Monarch butterflies
are not able to survive the cold winters in most of the United States so they migrate south and west
each autumn to escape the cold weather. The monarch migration usually starts in about October of
each year, but can start earlier if the weather turns colder sooner than that.

report back to what she calls the "ministry". We quickly learn that Song is not who she appears to be
as we watch Gallimard fall into her trap without hesitation because, in his eyes, she personifies his
vision of the ideal eastern woman. M. Butterfly is full of deception, culture, and domination and
submission in which Hwang is able to incorporate race and gender stereotypes that the west has
adopted in its dealings with the eastern culture.
Rene Gallimard replays his life from a prison cell constantly trying to understand and questioning
how he, a married diplomat working in the French embassy in China, fell in love with a communist
spy that he thought was a woman. "In the opera, a Japanese geisha kills herself rather than live
without her American husband. Smitten by the performance, Gallimard is determined to have his
own butterfly, even if it means that he has to deceive himself" (Preston 7). With that,

Butterfly Life Cycle
The Butterfly Life Cycle by Torran Anderson is a leveled text, because Farrah is reading at level H,
we were able to adapt the original in order to suit her skill levels. The book is separated by the
stages of the life cycle and includes a table of contents making each stage highly accessible to the
students. In addition to the table of contents, the beginning of the book also includes the focus
question: what is the life cycle of a monarch butterfly? This focus questions allows for these readers
to focus their attention and read the story having an idea of how their thought process should be
conducted. What we found to be the most vital resource within this text was the introduction to the
vocabulary words at the beginning of the text, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By pausing at words that the students do not know and breaking them down the students will gain
experience that will allow them to work on this practice independently. We set this up as a gradual
release of responsibility, beginning the exercise with a teacher model of how to break down a word.
We will then break down a list of words into parts and have students repeat these breakdowns before
practicing it themselves. Before diving into the reading, we will go over sentences that have these
practice words and have the student, together, repeating the sentences after us. This ensures that
students gain practice reading the word in sentences, rather than as an individual word before
performing their whisper reads. We included whisper reading as the during–reading activity, to give
students a chance to read independently but without the pressure of having an audience. As they
read to themselves, students will pause at words they are struggling to pronounce and break them
apart, at this point we will continue guiding students through this process, in order ensure that
motivation is not lost when students feel challenged. To gauge the learnings of the students, we will
have each student chose one word that they struggle with and create a master list, the students will
practice pronouncing their individual words and receive clarifying definitions if necessary. The
students will then create their own sentence using this word, practice it through whisper readings,
and then share it aloud with the group. This process creates a learning experience where students are
able to practice not only their phonics skills but also work on comprehension. This process
incorporates repetition to enforce the importance and practice with this

The Butterfly Circus Psychology
The Butterfly Circus is a lovely and heartwarming short film directed by Joshua Weigel, and the
main actor is Nick Vujicic. This film shows how the disease of loneliness can affect someone. It also
shows how people can overcome the disease when they are treated differently with the care and love
that they deserve. The main role in this film is that of Will; Will is a man who has no arms and no
legs. He is living in a circus and though he is surrounded by the other people in the circus he still
feels cut off and alone as he is treated as less than a human by the other people around him. He feels
alone, unloved, uncared for. This changes when a man named Mr. Mendez comes to the circus and
sees him. Mr. Mendez is the director of a special

Throughout the years, butterflies were widely populated in North America ,but over the last 50 years
more than 95% of the population has decreased. One of the common factors of the decline of the
population is because of farming and poaching. In order to protect these butterflies, there are three

Giant Butterflies Symbolism
Vladimir Kush on his beautiful oil canvas has depicted a three–masted sailing ship heading out to
the open sea on a windy day. The ship is very different than your everyday sailing ship what strike
out most is the giant butterflies that form the sails on the ship; it's as if these butterflies are catching
the heavy wind that is blowing out into the sea. The conditions on the sea look fairly calm but the
sea looks wavy and moving clouds show us the strong wind that is carrying the ship out. People on
the shore are seen holding windsock as an indication to show the strength of the wind. People are
also seen wind surfing across the seashore and there too butterfly wings have taken over the place of
traditional sails.
The beautiful painting is a visual treat to anyone laying eyes on it. The blue sky the wavy water the
sailboats all are ironic to any coastal shore. The moon on the distance is an indication that it's early
dusk or dawn. The sea looks windswept but calm and clear rather than stormy and angry. The ship is
setting out on a long journey but the butterflies are an indication to a positive spin on departure so
it's probably intended for people who have had or will have firsthand experience with departure and
those emotions.
Winged ship is portrayed to bring in a calming and cheering effect. And Kush has used his
imagination to depict the painting; he has used pure imagination in creating winged ship. And a lot
is dependent on the kind of condition that he was born in,

Butterfly
A butterfly is a mainly day–flying insect of the order Lepidoptera, which includes the butterflies and
moths. Like other holometabolous insects, the butterfly's life cycle consists of four parts: egg, larva,
pupa and adult. Most species are diurnal. Butterflies have large, often brightly coloured wings, and
conspicuous, fluttering flight. Butterflies comprise the true butterflies (superfamily Papilionoidea),
the skippers (superfamily Hesperioidea) and the moth–butterflies (superfamily Hedyloidea). All the
many other families within the Lepidoptera are referred to as moths. The earliest known butterfly
fossils date to the mid Eocene epoch, between 40–50 million years ago.

As Lepidoptera, butterflies have four wings that are covered with tiny scales (see photo). The fore
and hindwings are not hooked together, permitting a more graceful flight. An adult butterfly has six
legs, but in the nymphalids, the first pair is reduced. After it emerges from its pupal stage, a butterfly
cannot fly until the wings are unfolded. A newly emerged butterfly needs to spend some time
inflating its wings with blood and letting them dry, during which time it is extremely vulnerable to
predators. Some butterflies' wings may take up to three hours to dry while others take about one
hour. Most butterflies and moths will excrete excess dye after hatching. This fluid may be white,
red, orange, or in rare cases,

Orientalism in M. Butterfly
She is petite, submissive, and great in bed, the greatest combination for the perfect woman. Yellow
fever is the psychological inclination towards Asian woman that has been expressed by a portion of
the male population. This stereotype is a part of orientalism that continues to be discussed amongst
today's society; it is deemed odd or labeled as a fetish. M. Butterfly a Tony Award playwright
written by David Henry Hwang consists of ideas related to orientalism through the layers developed
in gender identity, global politics and art forms. The play begins in the present 1988 with Rene
Gallimard sitting in a Paris prison. Gallimard declares himself as a celebrity, and relishes that his

Butterfly does not reflect the complications between the U.S. and China, but certainly depicts secret
intelligence being traded among the Chinese from an outlier source, French diplomat Rene
Gallimard, who did not realize this deception from his "Perfect Woman", Song Liling. Before the
full context of M. Butterfly can be explored, it is important to establish the oriental stereotype that is
expressed in the play.
"Oriental women have long been fetishized into a stereotype; they are depicted as submissive and
passive, and are silenced by the double pressure from race and sex", "Oriental woman, as Said
(1979) states in Orientalism, is usually viewed ―with sexist blinders and serves as ―the creatures
of a male power–fantasy" and "Asians as a whole are considered to be inferior and emasculated,
easy targets for exploitations and dominance. Asian woman, always caged and subordinate both in
the patriarchic society and in the Oriental rhetoric tradition, are natural subjects for the White's
desire" (Weilin).
This stereotype is still regarded in todays' society. According to Prof. Dr. Opfermann and Prof. Dr.
Wippermann from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, their thesis Orientalism in Contemporary

that David Henry Hwang had two objectives in mind "... (1) Negating

Causes Of The Monarch Butterfly
So are we just going to ignore the fact that Monarch Butterflies are in trouble? We're just going to
ignore the fact that we could easily help, but we choose not to?The monarch butterfly is an insect
that relies their life on milkweed plants and is currently facing the problem of milkweed declining,
but it can be solved by planting milkweeds causing the butterfly population to increase rapidly.
The Monarch Butterfly is a milkweed butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It's the most common
butterfly in North America , and is considered an "iconic pollinator species".(Conserving Monarch
butterflies And their habitats). The Monarch Butterflies have many nicknames such as, "milkweed,
common tiger, wanderer and black veined brown"(Danaus).
The Monarch Butterfly's life cycle has four stages, it begins with the egg, the caterpillar, the pupa,
and then it emerges into an Adult butterfly. The female adult monarch butterfly mates with a male
butterfly, and later lays its eggs specifically on a milkweed plant. After the eggs hatch, they turn into
larva. The larva then spins a silky mat which turns into a chrysalis. Finally, the larva merges into an
adult monarch butterfly.
The monarch butterflies differ in migration than the any other species that migrate as well. The
reason why the monarchs are different than other species is that they later come back to their
previous winter location while other species stay.Monarch Butterflies migrate over 300,000 miles,
for they can not stand the harsh cold temperatures. Every fall, they come from northern United
States of America and migrate to southern United States of America, and at times they migrate all
the way down to Mexico. Since monarch butterflies have" a complicated life cycle"(Migration)
monarchs that have emerged in the winter do not yet reproduce until they're in the summer or spring
season. On the other hand, monarch butterflies that are emerged in the summer or springtime
reproduce rapidly. In addition, it's important for the monarchs to know when they have to migrate to
the south and back to the winter.
Sadly, the monarch butterflies are drastically decreasing due to the fact that the plant they need to
survive, the milkweed plant, is slowly but surely diminishing.

The Monarch Butterfly Annual Migration
Introduction
The monarch butterfly annual migration is a visually spectacular feat, in terms of the number of
butterflies flying to their overwintering sites and as well as the masses that congregates at the
overwintering sites in Mexico. The idea that monarch butterflies exhibited migratory behavior was
once controversial, it was not until Fred Urquhart and his colleagues pioneered a tagging work with
the eastern North American population for decades that revealed the long distance of the monarch
migration. The tagging efforts that began in 1937 lead to the discovery of their overwintering sites in
Mexico in 1975. With its long distance traveled and the nature of the predictable and the repetitive
nature of its annual migration. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Environmental factors such as the decrease in day length, cooler temperature and aging milkweed
trigger the monarch to begin its migration, although the precise environmental trigger that initiates
migration is not well understood. When spring arrives, they become reproductively active, mate and
leave Mexico to re–migrate north. During the remigration northward the females lay fertilized eggs
on newly emerged milkweeds in the southern parts of the United States (Reppert and others 2010).
Their offspring's will also continue the migration up northward to repopulate the northern section of
the monarch habitat range. Even though the monarch migration is repetitive and cyclic in nature,
their migration cycle is multigenerational. It takes about two generations of spring and summer
butterflies that are following the progressive northward emergence of milkweeds to repopulate the
entire range and therefore completing the migration cycle (Reppert and others 2010).
Time–Compensated Sun Compass (The Navigational process)
The Monarch butterfly uses a map and a compass like other long distance migrants. The map sense
is needed to determine which direction they are to fly and to stop. The compass sense is utilized so
that the migrants can orient in the southern direction throughout the course of their migration. It has
been shown that the monarch may not have a true map sense, although the monarch

Life Cycle Of Butterfly: Life Cycle Of A Butterfly
Life Cycle of a Butterfly
Life cycle of an animal is as a unit of biological time concept, showing and describing the
developments that occur in an animal. All living things ever exist on the Earth will undergo this
cycle to ensure the sustainability of the offspring. Uniquely, every single animal has different life
cycle that is sometimes totally not identical to each other at all. So does a butterfly, it also goes
through four stages in its life in order to complete the cycle before it can become a beautiful flying
organism (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix). Besides, each four stages also serve different purposes,
and usually the process may up to almost weeks to month. Butterfly first starts out as an egg.
Normally, a matured, fertilized female butterfly will produce eggs, where it is a group of single egg
lays together very close to one and another. Certain species of the butterfly can also lay hundreds to
thousands eggs at a time. Scott (as cited in Stamp, 1980, p.367) revealed that "mating in butterflies
is usually followed by dispersal and a preoviposition period of three to eight days although some
species lay egg cluster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this stage, caterpillar changes and hangs itself in the cocoan. When caterpillar is in the
cocoan, it will go through a formation process of the parts of its wings, legs and body. The wings of
the cocoan undergo fast mitosis in order to change the shape from a pair of small wings to the big
wings, which seem more suitable to be flown. Consequently, if a wing took off, another three wings
left will continue to grow up. Inside of the cocoan, the wings form a structure where it can be fast–
opened until it reaches the adult size completely. When the pupa is noticed to turn darker and the
wings patterns starts to appear obviously, it symbolizes that the pupa is ready enough to be a

Monarch Butterfly Life Cycle and Migration
The Monarch butterfly is a large orange and black butterfly that has been very well known
throughout our lives, catching our eyes almost instantly. As children, many of us used to chase the
creature around in our yards all spring and summer long. But, where do these Monarch butterflies
disappear to when the climate changes and winter approaches, and what brings them back? The
Monarch butterflies in North America undergo what is known as the longest insect migration in the
world.
Through years of studying, tagging, and research, it has been found that there are two migratory
populations, in eastern and western North America, with the Rocky Mountains serving as the
boundary between the two. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Monarch becomes infected when larvae that eat contaminated eggs or milkweed ingest parasite
spores. In pupil stage, parasite spores form on the scales of the Monarch. When adults, dormant
spores can be seen on the outside of their bodies toward the posterior end of the abdomen. The
parasite can reduce larval survival, cause adult size to be smaller, and shorten life spans. It seems
that the longer a butterfly migrates, the least likely it will become infected. This could be due to the
idea that long–distance migration weeds out the infected, allowing less transmission to other
generations. In other words, on longer migrations, it is survival of the fittest. In the study, Bradley
and Altizer infected monarchs and recorded their long distance flight performance. Infected
butterflies flew shorter distances, were slower, and lost more body mass (Bradley & Altizer, 2005).
From Bradley an Altizer's experiment, we can conclude that parasites, specifically the protozoan
Ophryocystis elektroscirrha, do affect migratory butterflies. If infected, a Monarch's life cycle can
be cut short, and its migration performance very

The monarch butterfly, as known as Danaus plexippus, is often called the milkweed butterfly
because its larvae eat the milkweed plant. They are also sometimes called "royalty
butterflies" because their family name comes from the daughter of Danaus, ruler of Argos.
There are many other interesting facts about this butterfly including its anatomy and life cycle,
where the butterfly lies on the food chain, the migration from Canada to Mexico, why the butterfly

The migrating of monarch is because of the harsh conditions on the northern US. They move south

Through illegal logging of the forests and the thinning of the canopy the monarchs are left
vulnerable to the elements including frost and freezing rain (Wexler, 2004). Second, is a genetically

The Film ' The Butterfly Effect '
There are plenty of movies that bring an educational value to individuals. Individuals can learn the
meaning behind horror. However, one tends to think, is horror just based on torture, slasher or
murder? I believe that horror could also be mental. Meaning that an individual can experience horror
by themselves. Imagine the type of torture an individual goes through and no one can help them.
Reason being they do not know what is happening to the other person. There is a movie called "The
Butterfly Effect". It is about a student named Evan Treborn, whose played by Ashton Kutcher. When
Evan was going up he had serious headaches until it caused blackouts. He tried writing in his
journals to help him remember. However, the journals could not help him figure out what he missed.
Evan grew up and went to college, and continued to deal with headaches but not on the same level
as before. Evan came across his old journals and thought about this girl named Kayleigh who is
played by Amy Smart. Evan grew up with Kayleigh and lost touch with her. He found her working
at a diner and when he talked to her, he said something the struck a nerve and the next day he finds
out that she committed suicide. The suicide shook Evan to the core, because he felt that it was his
fault that her life was the way that it was. Reason being, Evan told Kayleigh that he would come
back for her when he moved away with his mother. And he never came back until he was in college
for a while. That was one of

Velma Gratch And The Way Cool Butterfly Analysis
This text analysis is based off the book Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly by Alan Madison.
The Lexile level of this book is AD750L, the reasoning behind this rating is due to all the
vocabulary placed throughout the book. In our study of Beck from last semester, we explored the
idea of tiered vocabulary. This book is filled with tier three vocabulary including specific types of
butterflies and the different parts of a butterfly. These are terms that cannot be brought into a variety
of subjects and that are unlikely to be known previously by students. In addition, there are also
high–level vocabulary words, that make the Lexile level go up as they are only used once
throughout the book. In Readability and the Common Core's Staircase of Text Complexity by
Elfrieda H. Hiebert, it mentions that as vocabulary words are used more frequently the Lexile level
decreases as these words become more common. In this book, words such as "miraculous",
"spectacular", "muddled", "coincidence", "conservation", "slathered", "gurgled", and "migration" are
all used either once or just a few times. Which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Velma and her decisions. Such as the reason that Velma does some of the things she does, is so she
is remembered as more than just the third Gratch sister. In addition to having students make
inferences, this book allows students to activate their background knowledge and make predictions.
Through the sibling rivalry and idea of science students need to use what they already know to make
the inferences. With the text being predictable and the story having a fairly common story, students
should be able to pause and make their own predict what may happen

Monarch Butterflies And Habitat Loss Essay
Monarch Butterflies and Habitat Loss To begin with, this there is an estimated 109 million monarchs
this year in 2.91 hectares, and last year it was from 150 million in 4.01 hectare. The butterflies are
daing, and their population is decreasing, and there is a lot of solutions. For example, people can
make more habitat for the butterflies, stop cutting milkweed plants, and planting them. The monarch
butterflies will spend in Mexico their winter hibernation, and also in of Southern California because
in some parts it is warm all year long. But if the monarch lives in the Eastern states, on the Rocky
Mountains, then it will hibernate close to the Pacific Grove, California in eucalyptus trees. The eggs
are laid on milkweed plants in March. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second solution is that people do not put any more pesticide in their plants and their farms
because then the butterflies are going to the plants and they are going die because of the
pesticide. The butterflies see the plants and they are going to rest there or they are going to pollinate
them, but what the butterflies don't know is that the plants have pesticide and they lend on them and
latter on they die. And the last solution is that people start planting new milkweed trees.Because if
all the people start doing it the monarch butterflies population will increase because now they are
going to have enough food for all of them and they are going to finish their life cycle and they can
do all their migration for their lives. All the people should be traing to protect the monarch
butterflies because they are one of the little things that help people live. But they are not doing it
because the butterflies population is decreasing.Like it show in the picture

Why Do Monarch Butterflies Move

  • 1. Why Do Monarch Butterflies Move Mexico was once the locations where large colonies of monarch butterflies migrated to. However in the recent years the size of the colonies have began to shrink. The monarch butterflies tend to hibernate in the winter in reserve forests. It is believed one reason for the decline of monarch butterflies migrating to the reserve forests in Mexico is because of the number of insects in these forests had increased along with the destruction of these forrest. Another reason for monarch butterflies migrating to these different areas is to follow their food source which is the milkweed. The milkweed was at one time found in large numbers through out Canda. However due to climate changes throughout North America which included freezing teperatures and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Butterfly Effect On Monarchs Monarchs have been in danger for the longest time because of all the global warming we cause. One of the many effects of global warming is climate change. The change in the climate can affect the Monarch Butterflies' migration and the life cycle,so we have to limit the amount of littering and pollution. BACKGROUND INFORMATION The Monarch Butterfly is the most known butterfly because of its colored wings that warns its predators that it is poisonous. It is found throughout all of North America. The Monarch Butterfly can't fly with a body temperature less than 86 degrees ,so they flap their wings and sit in the sun in order to keep warm. The milkweed is the Monarch's main food source. The milkweed has many positive effects on the Monarch Butterfly. For example, the butterfly lays the eggs on the plants ,and the milkweed gives the poisonous taste to the predators when the caterpillar eats it. The Monarch lay their eggs on the milkweed plant. They usually lay one egg on the plant which is the size of a pencil tip. The yellow or white eggs start to hatch after four days. The female butterflies lay 300–500 eggs through two to five weeks of the process of laying eggs. The next step in the life cycle is the larvae. This is the stage where the monarchs do all of the growing. The caterpillar has many parts that help it survive. Once the caterpillar gets older it starts to shed off its skin. The first part to shed off is the head. The skin starts growing back into the caterpillar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Butterflies You have decided to release butterflies at your wedding. Do not wait too long to look for a farmer to purchase your butterflies. It takes approximately 4 to 5 weeks to raise the butterflies. You want to make sure that you are able to purchase the type and quantity of butterflies that you would like. So it is a good idea to start looking at least 3 months or more in advance and reserve your butterflies, preferably 4 to 6 weeks in advance. Most farmers ask that ½ be paid to reserve the butterflies and the remainder is due approximately 2 weeks before the event. When you are looking for butterflies, you will find that there are up to 9 different types that the government allows to be shipped across state lines. Check "Which Butterflies can Be ... They also are a smaller butterfly, with a wing span of 2 – 2 7/8 inches. They do work well in displays because of their size and they seem to be happy in smaller areas. Black Swallowtails – Black Swallowtails are a beautiful butterfly. They have a wing span of about 3 ¼" – 4 ¼". They are mostly black with males having a yellow band near the edge of their wings. Females have a row of yellow spots and a iridescent blue band. They have tails that can be easily broken. Also, if handled too much, their color does come off. These are raised by more butterfly farmers, but still not by a majority of them. You may be able to use these in a mixed release. American Painted Lady – The American Painted Lady looks very similar to the Painted Lady. It has less white markings on its upper wings. Not as many farmers raise this type though, and you may have a harder time finding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Monarch Butterfly Monarch Butterfly's Reign By Mario Lopez ITT Technical Institute SC4730 Environmental Science Mr. Ramirez 1/15/2015 According to National Geographic monarch butterflies travel up to 3,000 miles each fall to their wintering site in central Mexico. In 2004, an estimated 550 million completed the winter migration, while in 2003 only 33 million arrived. Further, between 2012 and 2013, there was a 43.7 percent decrease in the area occupied by the butterflies in the winter sanctuaries, the decline has numerous reasons: climate change, deforestation, and habitat loss, agricultural use of pesticides and herbicides Monarch butterflies are known for the incredible mass migration that brings millions of them to California and Mexico each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Butterfly Life Cycle According to National Geographic the four generations of these butterflies are constituted by 4 separate butterflies that complete the 4 unique phases in just one year. After this, they restart the same cycle, commencing with the primary stage of the first generation. Stage 1 February and March: Locate a mate and search for an ideal place to lay their eggs Stage 2 March–April: They lay their eggs on the leaves of milkweed plants. The larvae eat, grow and metamorphose into chrysalis. Stage 3 May–June: The third generation butterflies live out a life–cycle like the first generation. They then perish about fifteen days after metamorphosing into spectacular adult butterflies. Stage 4 This generation repeats the processes the other generations of Monarch butterflies underwent, but with the one crucial difference of traveling to California through Mexico to enjoy the warmer climate there. They live for six to eight months until they again get ready to undertake the return. The Migration How these butterflies take a particular direction for migration is an unsolved mystery of our generation. They fly at speeds ranging between 12 to 25 miles an hour. • 12. Monarch Butterfly Research Papers The monarch butterfly is one of the most familiar species, and is considered important because of its pollinating skills. This species is most recognizable for is black, orange, and white wings. The monarch butterflies wings change colors from orange to a deep red, from beginning to the end of migration. This butterfly population has been decreasing over the last ten years, and are predicted to be quasi–extinct over the next 20 years. These butterflies keep warm by opening their wings up to the sun. Males have a different appearance than the female butterflies such as they are much bigger in size, and the black veins on their wings are narrower than those of a female. • 14. Why Does The Butterfly Population Decline butterflies are traveling pollinators that migrate over 3000 miles in the winter when the weather begins to get cold (Smith). The National Geographic article and video by Lindsay N. Smith says that the butterfly population has decreased 90% in size over the last twenty years (Smith). Population decline comes from a variety of aspects, but the most impactful is the food that the caterpillars are eating and a lack of food on their migration. Monarch caterpillars are born in milkweed plants and eat the leaves before they grow into butterflies. In 20 years milkweed plants have dropped to 21% the amount of that they were previously (Smith). Many scientists are attributing this to the massive monoculture fields throughout the migration pattern that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Monarch Butterfly : The Life Of The Monarch Butterfly Introduction: My project is about the monarch butterfly. I will be explaining how the monarch butterflies migrate and how they use the earth's magnetic field to do so. The Danaus Plexippus or commonly known as the Monarch butterfly. It such a beautiful insect, yet no one really knows about their migration and how they use the Earth's magnetic field to do this. The Monarch Butterfly lives in more than one place. The monarchs spend their summer and spring in Canada and the migrate south to Mexico to escape the cold weather and snow. Most winters, this weather reaches an incredible icy temperature of nearly –15 degrees Celsius. No one knows for sure how these fascinating insects migrate these thousands of kilometres, but it is thought to be a combination of the Earth's magnetic field and Solar navigation. Monarch butterflies are born as caterpillars and caterpillars feed almost entirely on milkweed. When they have transformed into a butterfly they feed on nectar from flowers. The monarch butterfly always goes back to a milkweed plant to lay their eggs. The milkweed plant that caterpillars digest is a poisonous toxin. This is the reason that the butterfly tastes horrible to predators. Migratory path: There are two main reasons why the monarch butterflies migrate. Firstly, Monarchs cannot survive in such low temperatures of nearly –15 degrees, and secondly, they rely on a source of plant called milkweed, but milkweed does not grow in cold weather, and they ... • 18. Monarch Butterfly Research Paper Monarch butterflies–scientifically called Danaus plexippus are commonly found in North America, Central America and Australia ("Global Distribution"). This species of butterflies has become famous due to natural phenomenon through which it migrates thousands of miles every year to escape extreme climate changes, starvation, and longer nights. Interestingly, it takes about four generations of monarchs to complete a round–trip migration, so most of the monarchs end up dying to ensure their offsprings live. The migration of monarch butterflies in North America mostly consist of traveling to Central Mexico from Canada and North American states, and covering a total of 3000 miles ("Migration"). But in the past decade, there has been a massive decline in the monarch butterfly population, with which when approximated, can be predicted that monarch butterflies will be extinct by 2019 (Curry and Walker). The major factors for this decline are: loss in milkweed, change in global temperature, illegal deforestation, and use of pesticides (Price). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The monarchs brush some pollen on the underside of their body when they try to feed of the nectar producing plants. When they feed again on another plant on their journey, some of the pollen get transferred to a new plant ("Butterfly Pollination"). In this manner, pollen from the north can fertilize a flower in the south, and vice versa. This cross–pollinating phenomenon help create the natural crossbred plants. During the holocaust many children were put into concentration camps, they knew they were going to die. They carved hundreds of butterflies with their nails or stones on the walls of the prisons. I believe these butterflies represented their souls. They had a meaning. The butterflies were supposedly a message of hope, that despite the fact that they would be dead before long, their souls would not die. The third instar larva has more distinct bands which is particularly on the abdomen. (Rice) The monarch butterfly is an insect that is beneficial to the ecosystem ;however, their population has decreased over the years. Poaching and farming have caused this declination ,but there are solutions we can work with that may help the population increase once again. The monarch butterfly is known by scientists as Danaus plexippus, which in Greek literally means "sleepy transformation." The name evokes the species' ability to hibernate and metamorphize.(Schafer) Monarch butterflies are indicator species just like they are pollinators as well ,and their characteristics all serve different purposes to help them. For instance, their colorful wings consist of veins and muscles. These features help blood circulate through their tiny bodies and allow them to be able to do move. Their characteristics tell differences in their gender as well by their patterns. In fact, males have black dots on their wings ,and females are a little smaller in size. Additionally, they live up to about two to six weeks as they grow from a caterpillar to becoming an adult monarch butterfly. Their life cycle is made up of four stages: egg, the larvae, the pupa, and the adult butterfly. It lasts about 28 to 38 days to be able to complete the process. They have beautiful colors, they go through metamorphosis to become the beautiful butterflies they are, and they travel across the country. This is why I believe monarch butterflies are amazing creatures. How they become a monarch Monarchs are amazing creatures because they go threw the process of metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the transformation of an immature form (caterpillar) into an adult form or adult stage (butterfly). The Monarchs lay their eggs on milkweed which is the plant they eat. Rolling Stone and Billboard praised the album awarding it the best album of 2015. "To Pimp a Butterfly" has been both a divisive and uniting factor in its emergence in popular culture. Kendrick Lamar grew up in the city of Compton. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lamar states that "Although the butterfly and caterpillar are completely different, they are one and the same." Caterpillars can become butterflies through metamorphosis, or in the case of Kendrick Lamar, through finding their gifts and talents. A caterpillar only becomes a butterfly when it breaks out of its cocoon. The title "To Pimp a Butterfly" is in and of itself the central message Lamar is communicating with the listener. "To Pimp a Butterfly" refers to the downfall (whether that be intellectually or physically) of butterflies. That downfall occurs when butterflies become seduced by fame and fortune often by their own desires or, in some cases, by their exploitation. A "pimped" butterfly perpetuates the idea that the only lifestyle to live is one based on status and wealth. The opening track of the album is entitled "Wesley's Theory." Wesley, in this instance, is in reference to Wesley Snipes. Wesley Snipes is known for his income tax conviction which, when juxtaposed onto Lamar's extended metaphor, makes him a pimped butterfly. The track divides each of the two verses into separate perspectives. The first verse is from the caterpillars perspective in the mindset of consumption, "I 'ma buy a brand new Caddy on fours/Trunk the hood up, two times, deuce–four/Platinum on everythin ', platinum on weddin ' ring/Married to the game." Butterfly, a play written by a man named David Henry Hwang in 1988, is a story of a French diplomat named Rene Gallimard and a Chinese Opera star named Song Liling and the deception that occurs between them that destroys their relationship as well as Gallimard's life. The play takes off when Gallimard meets Song Liling for the first time after her opera performance and grows extremely fond of her. Song, on the other hand, sees him as easy prey for a twisted spy operation attempting to seduce him into providing her info on the American troop movements in Vietnam and report back to what she calls the "ministry". We quickly learn that Song is not who she appears to be as we watch Gallimard fall into her trap without hesitation because, in his eyes, she personifies his vision of the ideal eastern woman. M. Butterfly is full of deception, culture, and domination and submission in which Hwang is able to incorporate race and gender stereotypes that the west has adopted in its dealings with the eastern culture. Rene Gallimard replays his life from a prison cell constantly trying to understand and questioning how he, a married diplomat working in the French embassy in China, fell in love with a communist spy that he thought was a woman. "In the opera, a Japanese geisha kills herself rather than live without her American husband. Smitten by the performance, Gallimard is determined to have his own butterfly, even if it means that he has to deceive himself" (Preston 7). With that, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We set this up as a gradual release of responsibility, beginning the exercise with a teacher model of how to break down a word. We will then break down a list of words into parts and have students repeat these breakdowns before practicing it themselves. Before diving into the reading, we will go over sentences that have these practice words and have the student, together, repeating the sentences after us. This ensures that students gain practice reading the word in sentences, rather than as an individual word before performing their whisper reads. We included whisper reading as the during–reading activity, to give students a chance to read independently but without the pressure of having an audience. As they read to themselves, students will pause at words they are struggling to pronounce and break them apart, at this point we will continue guiding students through this process, in order ensure that motivation is not lost when students feel challenged. To gauge the learnings of the students, we will have each student chose one word that they struggle with and create a master list, the students will practice pronouncing their individual words and receive clarifying definitions if necessary. The students will then create their own sentence using this word, practice it through whisper readings, and then share it aloud with the group. The conditions on the sea look fairly calm but the sea looks wavy and moving clouds show us the strong wind that is carrying the ship out. People on the shore are seen holding windsock as an indication to show the strength of the wind. Causes Of The Monarch Butterfly So are we just going to ignore the fact that Monarch Butterflies are in trouble? We're just going to ignore the fact that we could easily help, but we choose not to?The monarch butterfly is an insect that relies their life on milkweed plants and is currently facing the problem of milkweed declining, but it can be solved by planting milkweeds causing the butterfly population to increase rapidly. The Monarch Butterfly is a milkweed butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It's the most common butterfly in North America , and is considered an "iconic pollinator species".(Conserving Monarch butterflies And their habitats). The Monarch Butterflies have many nicknames such as, "milkweed, common tiger, wanderer and black veined brown"(Danaus). The Monarch Butterfly's life cycle has four stages, it begins with the egg, the caterpillar, the pupa, and then it emerges into an Adult butterfly. The female adult monarch butterfly mates with a male butterfly, and later lays its eggs specifically on a milkweed plant. After the eggs hatch, they turn into larva. The larva then spins a silky mat which turns into a chrysalis. Finally, the larva merges into an adult monarch butterfly. The monarch butterflies differ in migration than the any other species that migrate as well. The reason why the monarchs are different than other species is that they later come back to their previous winter location while other species stay.Monarch Butterflies migrate over 300,000 miles, for they can not stand the harsh cold temperatures. Every fall, they come from northern United States of America and migrate to southern United States of America, and at times they migrate all the way down to Mexico. Since monarch butterflies have" a complicated life cycle"(Migration) monarchs that have emerged in the winter do not yet reproduce until they're in the summer or spring season. On the other hand, monarch butterflies that are emerged in the summer or springtime reproduce rapidly. In addition, it's important for the monarchs to know when they have to migrate to the south and back to the winter. Sadly, the monarch butterflies are drastically decreasing due to the fact that the plant they need to survive, the milkweed plant, is slowly but surely diminishing. On ... Environmental factors such as the decrease in day length, cooler temperature and aging milkweed trigger the monarch to begin its migration, although the precise environmental trigger that initiates migration is not well understood. When spring arrives, they become reproductively active, mate and leave Mexico to re–migrate north. During the remigration northward the females lay fertilized eggs on newly emerged milkweeds in the southern parts of the United States (Reppert and others 2010). Their offspring's will also continue the migration up northward to repopulate the northern section of the monarch habitat range. Even though the monarch migration is repetitive and cyclic in nature, their migration cycle is multigenerational. It takes about two generations of spring and summer butterflies that are following the progressive northward emergence of milkweeds to repopulate the entire range and therefore completing the migration cycle (Reppert and others 2010). Uniquely, every single animal has different life cycle that is sometimes totally not identical to each other at all. So does a butterfly, it also goes through four stages in its life in order to complete the cycle before it can become a beautiful flying organism (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix). Besides, each four stages also serve different purposes, and usually the process may up to almost weeks to month. Butterfly first starts out as an egg. Normally, a matured, fertilized female butterfly will produce eggs, where it is a group of single egg lays together very close to one and another. Certain species of the butterfly can also lay hundreds to thousands eggs at a time. Monarch Butterfly Research Paper Monarch Butterfly Life Cycle and Migration The Monarch butterfly is a large orange and black butterfly that has been very well known throughout our lives, catching our eyes almost instantly. As children, many of us used to chase the creature around in our yards all spring and summer long. But, where do these Monarch butterflies disappear to when the climate changes and winter approaches, and what brings them back? The Monarch butterflies in North America undergo what is known as the longest insect migration in the world. Through years of studying, tagging, and research, it has been found that there are two migratory populations, in eastern and western North America, with the Rocky Mountains serving as the boundary between the two. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A Monarch becomes infected when larvae that eat contaminated eggs or milkweed ingest parasite spores. In pupil stage, parasite spores form on the scales of the Monarch. When adults, dormant spores can be seen on the outside of their bodies toward the posterior end of the abdomen. The parasite can reduce larval survival, cause adult size to be smaller, and shorten life spans. It seems that the longer a butterfly migrates, the least likely it will become infected. This could be due to the idea that long–distance migration weeds out the infected, allowing less transmission to other generations. In other words, on longer migrations, it is survival of the fittest. In the study, Bradley and Altizer infected monarchs and recorded their long distance flight performance. Infected butterflies flew shorter distances, were slower, and lost more body mass (Bradley & Altizer, 2005). From Bradley an Altizer's experiment, we can conclude that parasites, specifically the protozoan Ophryocystis elektroscirrha, do affect migratory butterflies. If infected, a Monarch's life cycle can be cut short, and its migration performance very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are also sometimes called "royalty butterflies" because their family name comes from the daughter of Danaus, ruler of Argos. There are many other interesting facts about this butterfly including its anatomy and life cycle, where the butterfly lies on the food chain, the migration from Canada to Mexico, why the butterfly is being threatened, and lastly, what is being done to help the butterfly. The migrating of monarch is because of the harsh conditions on the northern US. They move south from areas of southern Canada and most of the US to a few sites in Mexico (Grzimek's, 2003). They migrate itself usually takes three to four generations of monarchs (Clattenburg, 2004). Scientists do not know why they migrate, but there are different theories. The first theory is the change of light in fall (Clattenburg, 2004). While others scientists claim the monarchs have a chemical in their bodies in which they are attracted to Mexico where the congregate in certain trees (Clattenburg, 2004). The latter does not explain why monarchs stay in Southern Florida as permanent residents (Emmel, 1999). Three different things are endangering the monarch butterfly. First, is the deforestation of Mexico. Through illegal logging of the forests and the thinning of the canopy the monarchs are left vulnerable to the elements including frost and freezing rain (Wexler, 2004). • 70. The Film ' The Butterfly Effect ' There are plenty of movies that bring an educational value to individuals. Individuals can learn the meaning behind horror. However, one tends to think, is horror just based on torture, slasher or murder? I believe that horror could also be mental. Meaning that an individual can experience horror by themselves. Imagine the type of torture an individual goes through and no one can help them. Reason being they do not know what is happening to the other person. There is a movie called "The Butterfly Effect". It is about a student named Evan Treborn, whose played by Ashton Kutcher. When Evan was going up he had serious headaches until it caused blackouts. He tried writing in his journals to help him remember. However, the journals could not help him figure out what he missed. Evan grew up and went to college, and continued to deal with headaches but not on the same level as before. Evan came across his old journals and thought about this girl named Kayleigh who is played by Amy Smart. Evan grew up with Kayleigh and lost touch with her. He found her working at a diner and when he talked to her, he said something the struck a nerve and the next day he finds out that she committed suicide. The suicide shook Evan to the core, because he felt that it was his fault that her life was the way that it was. Reason being, Evan told Kayleigh that he would come back for her when he moved away with his mother. And he never came back until he was in college for a while. That was one of ... • 72. Velma Gratch And The Way Cool Butterfly Analysis This text analysis is based off the book Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly by Alan Madison. The Lexile level of this book is AD750L, the reasoning behind this rating is due to all the vocabulary placed throughout the book. In our study of Beck from last semester, we explored the idea of tiered vocabulary. This book is filled with tier three vocabulary including specific types of butterflies and the different parts of a butterfly. These are terms that cannot be brought into a variety of subjects and that are unlikely to be known previously by students. In addition, there are also high–level vocabulary words, that make the Lexile level go up as they are only used once throughout the book. In Readability and the Common Core's Staircase of Text Complexity by Elfrieda H. Hiebert, it mentions that as vocabulary words are used more frequently the Lexile level decreases as these words become more common. In this book, words such as "miraculous", "spectacular", "muddled", "coincidence", "conservation", "slathered", "gurgled", and "migration" are all used either once or just a few times. Which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book is a literal text, with some inferential ideas. Students would need to make inferences about Velma and her decisions. Such as the reason that Velma does some of the things she does, is so she is remembered as more than just the third Gratch sister. In addition to having students make inferences, this book allows students to activate their background knowledge and make predictions. Through the sibling rivalry and idea of science students need to use what they already know to make the inferences. With the text being predictable and the story having a fairly common story, students should be able to pause and make their own predict what may happen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Monarch Butterflies And Habitat Loss Essay Monarch Butterflies and Habitat Loss To begin with, this there is an estimated 109 million monarchs this year in 2.91 hectares, and last year it was from 150 million in 4.01 hectare. The butterflies are daing, and their population is decreasing, and there is a lot of solutions. For example, people can make more habitat for the butterflies, stop cutting milkweed plants, and planting them. The monarch butterflies will spend in Mexico their winter hibernation, and also in of Southern California because in some parts it is warm all year long. But if the monarch lives in the Eastern states, on the Rocky Mountains, then it will hibernate close to the Pacific Grove, California in eucalyptus trees. The eggs are laid on milkweed plants in March. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second solution is that people do not put any more pesticide in their plants and their farms because then the butterflies are going to the plants and they are going die because of the pesticide. The butterflies see the plants and they are going to rest there or they are going to pollinate them, but what the butterflies don't know is that the plants have pesticide and they lend on them and latter on they die. And the last solution is that people start planting new milkweed trees.Because if all the people start doing it the monarch butterflies population will increase because now they are going to have enough food for all of them and they are going to finish their life cycle and they can do all their migration for their lives. All the people should be traing to protect the monarch butterflies because they are one of the little things that help people live. But they are not doing it because the butterflies population is decreasing.Like it show in the picture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
