Essay On Aviation Industry
INTRODUCTION
Aviation Industry plays an important role in the economic growth of anation. It not only promotes
international trade but also provides an effective and fastest means of transportation across the
globe. Today, in the world of globalization and cut throat competition the value of time has become
more precious.
The history of Indian Aviation industry lies back in the year 1912.The first domestic flight was taken
between Delhi and Karachi by the Indian State Air Services. Tata Airlines started with an air mail
service in the year 1912.It was renamed as Air India in 1946.
There were few players at the time of independence including Tata Airlines, Indian National
Airways, Deccan Airways .In 1953 ,the government nationalized the ... Show more content on

They have set a record for using the lightest passenger seats in India which weigh only 12.8 Kgs.
They have started using paint which overall weighs 50 Kgs less. Such weight savings are negligible
on their own but collectively ,they have helped Indigo to cut on costs and function as a "low cost
airline". 2. Maintaining a young fleet:Indigo uses the strategy of selling and leasing its planes, thus
helping the airline to constantly replace its fleet, hence preventing the need for major checks and
repairs. 3. Excellent Quality of Service: Some of the reasons for the outstanding quality are as
follows: a. The management and staff are hired only after the CEO meets with each of them
individually. b. The airline also employs far lesser number of people as compared to other airlines. c.
The airline has trained its crews to de–plane the passengers in 6 minutes and unload the baggage in
10 minutes. It regularly acheives Turn around times of around 22–25 minutes(Industry Average
being much more than 30 minutes). The lesser the time taken at the airports, the more the airplane
can fly and earn more 4. Reliable and On–Time Service: Indigo's Management has tried to attract
customers with more than just low fares. An important factor is its on–time performance of 94 per
cent – much higher than its other rivals. For instance, to ensure that its flights depart and arrive on

Air India Failure
Strategy
Air India failed to collaborate with other Global major airline players while on the other hand major
airlines were collaborating with foreign players to expand increase their reach. Air India being a
state owned airlines lacked time punctuality. Its flights were poorly scheduled and also the routes on
which the airline operated was not profitable.
Skill
Air India was unable to match the performance of other airlines and faced severe criticism for its
inefficiency and excessive expenditure human resources. The industry owned the planes which
increased its operating cost while on the other hand airlines such as Indigo followed lease and
payback model and were in profits.
System

Main reasons being huge fixed costs, high fuel costs and tough competition. Apart from these
factors the downfall of Air India has been characterized to following major reasons:
Unhappy merger of Indian Airlines and Air India
Government of India went through with this merger with the hopes of a successful airline. But till
date it has come out to be a failure. When any two organizations merge, they should have a harmony
and sync in their culture and ways of working which in this case hasn't been achieved.
Human resources department remains a non standard department, leading to inequality in pay scales,
allowances and career progression. This has lead to unrest and dissatisfaction among employees.
There are two unions representing the pilots from both the erstwhile companies and these unions
have been at loggerheads for a long time. As the pilots from Air India flew international flights and
pilots from Indian Airlines flew domestic flights, the compensation given to these pilots varied a lot
which gave rise to this unrest.

Classical Approach To Utilitarianism
2.1. Classical approach
The Classical approach for utilitarianism has two main prominent thinkers who are Jeremy Bentham
and John Stuart Mills.
Jeremy Bentham's concept of Utilitarianism
The concept of Utilitarianism was developed by Jeremy Bentham (1748–1832). He belonged to the
positivist school of Jurisprudence. According to him every human life is governed by two hedonistic
principles that is pleasure and pain. He believed that every individual tries to maximize his own and
pleasure and also decrease pain as much as possible. Although it would seem an individualistic
perspective but he also applied this principle to the society as a whole. According to him the role of
every government in the society is to maximize the greatest good of the greatest number. He also ...

He placed weight on the effectiveness of internal sanctions like guilt and remorse which serve to
regulate our actions. He believed that humans are those sorts which have social feelings, feelings for
others and are not only selfish. We care about people around us and when one inflicts harm over the
other then it leads to a painful experience in us. One feels guilty for what one has done. With this he
argued that conscience and sense of justice are emotions present in every human being through
which comes the sense which involves a desire to punish those who have harmed others.
Just like Bentham Mill also sought to reform law and social policy with his theory of utilitarianism.
The aim of increasing happiness underlies his argument of women's suffrage and free speech. It can
be seen best in his arguments regarding social status of women. He argued that it was important to
improve the status of women because they were capable of these cultivated faculties, and denying
them access to education and other facilities for development is resulting in a significant loss of
source of happiness for the

The Hospitality And Tourism Industry
The hospitality and tourism industry is the largest and fastest–growing industry in the world. The
hotel business provides career opportunities to associates who help make reservations, greet, assist,
and serve guests. Approximately 70% of the American and Canadian economies are engaged in
service industries. However, September 11 showed the fragility of this industry, that cost the
industry much damage. The Hotel Industry income is affected by real life events because negative
outcomes occur, such as less guests stay at the hotel, problems with employees, and hotel income
drops dramatically.
On the September 11, 2001, the hotel industry had a dramatic change. Every thing went down from
that day. On this day, Islamist extremists hijacked four planes that were flying above the US. Two of
them were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The buildings went
down, collapsing. Many people were killed, including emergency workers and firefighters who went
into the building to help people. Another was crashed into the Pentagon, the top military building in
the capital city, Washington DC. The fourth hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a
field.
Another event, that affected the hospitality Industry, the terrorist attack in Mumbai, India. There
were ten Pakistani men associated with the terror group Lashkar–e–Tayyiba targeted buildings in
Mumbai, killing 164 people. Nine of the gunmen were killed during the attacks, one survived.

Globalization In Katherine Boo's Novel Behind The...
The city of Mumbai has seen much growth in the past years. A string of hotels have been set up for
travelers and high–class businessmen. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for
those coming in and out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to enjoy being
internationally integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization. However, this is
not the case as seen in Katherine Boo's novel Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope
in a Mumbai Undercity. This novel is set in a slum right next to the Mumbai International Airport
called Annawadi. It focuses mainly on the life and story of the main character, Abdul. Abdul Husain
and his family make a living by selling scrap metal tossed out by the upper class of Mumbai. When
looking at Abdul's story, one can see the corruption that made it near impossible for globalization to
have a positive effect on Annawadi. Abdul's relationship with his neighbor, one–legged Fatima, also
shows how neighborhood relationships were a barrier to Annawadi's ability to be a part of Mumbai's
globalization. Before examining the reasons for Annawadi's lack of effects from globalization, one
must look at some of the reasons as to why Annawadi faces the shocking amount of poverty that it
does. In the novel, Boo writes, "What you don't want is always going to be with you. What you want
is never going to be with you. Where you don't want to go, you have to go. And the moment you
think you're going to live

The culture of India refers to the religions, beliefs, customs, traditions, languages, ceremonies, arts,

There is significant historical discourse in India on the notion, relevance, and the existence and non–

India's diversity has inspired many writers to pen their perceptions of the country's culture. These
writings paint a complex and often conflicting picture of the culture of India.
According to industry consultant Eugene M. Makar, for example, traditional Indian culture is
defined by a relatively strict social hierarchy. He also mentions that from an early age, children are
reminded of their roles and places in society.[16] This is reinforced, Makar notes, by the way many

Measurement of Problems
It has been observed that during peak hours, each train is over filled by 3–4 times its seating
capacity. And during peak hours on roads, there are frequent long traffic slowdowns or halts. These
busy times are measured as follows: for local trains the percent full per train and for roads the
minimum speed of traffic. This measurement system can be mapped to measure the effect of solving
transportation problem on the overall quality of life of Mumbaikars. By maximizing the suggested
measurement specifications, a train can be filled up to 1.4–1.6 times its seating capacity and on
roads, there should not be a complete traffic halt (apart from exceptional circumstances) and traffic
movement should maintain a minimum of 25–35 km/h. A solution "fails" if it does not meet these
specifications a minimum of 95 percent of the time. For calculating impact on quality of life in
Mumbai, it is assumed that transportation problems contribute 15 percent to the overall reduction. If
the solution system works within specifications, it improves a person's quality of life by 15 percent.
If the solution fails to

Power Of Religion : God Made Us, We Made Gods
Mannat Shukla Professor Sonia Gutiérrez English 100 July 11 2014 Power of Religion "GOD
MADE US, WE MADE GODS" It was the heat of the summer afternoon that radiated about the
Indian temple of Shiva, a Hindu deity. The sheer amount of people running about was amazing but
there was something that they all shared. Each one of them carried in their hands, a bag of rich milk
that was to be offered to the statue of the deity in hopes of praising him. Milk was used to bathe the
statue and the canals carried the residue of the aftermath down to the gutters. It is there along the
deep canals that one can find multiple anorexic bodies leaning down and scooping up the milk from
the gutters. They were hungry and poor. This was their only chance at a good meal. It was after
seeing such scenes that I chose to feed that poor little malnourished child and his father instead of
bathing Lord Shiva's statue, who were standing in that intolerable heat, looking at people passing by
in hopes for food. Surprised at my actions, the pair simply looked at me with the kindest sets of eyes
and the father of that child said: "May Allah bless you son." These words struck my consciousness
ajar and I realized that they were Muslims not Hindus. I touched that man's feet (A symbol of
respect to elders in Hinduism). That gesture stuck me in a dilemma, was religion really the promoter
of morality?

Ghosh has justified his aversion for the spotlight by saying that people don 't fly IndiGo because
they know the president of the company.
So his reaction to the six–year–old IndiGo taking a giant leap to become India 's largest airline in
July was just an one–liner: The airline, he said, never chased market share, but being the largest in ...

Before every departure, an automatic message is triggered from the aircraft to control centre and the
departure time recorded immediately. Also, the moment the flight lands, an automatic message is
triggered from the aircraft to the control centre.
There are some dissent notes as well. While vouching for its operational efficiency and attention for
details, industry analysts take the airline 's claim of profitability with a pinch of salt. "I doubt if the
company was able to maintain profit at operational level last year," said an analyst.
The company, which claims to be profitable since 2009–10, is not publicly listed and does not
announce its detailed financial figures. However, numbers filed with the Registrar of Companies
show that the result for 2011–12 is still awaited.
However, in an interview in March, Ghosh claimed that the company would remain in the black
albeit with a smaller profit. In the previous financial year, the airline reported 18 per cent rise in its
net profit to Rs 650.32 crore.
The country 's youngest airline has become its largest. Low–cost carrier IndiGo, which began
operations this month in 2006, has overtaken Jet Airways in terms of passengers flown.
According to the latest figures released by the DGCA, IndiGo, with 27 per cent market share in July
this year, has edged past Jet, which managed 26.6 per cent share.

The Swadeshi Movement and the Boycott of Imported Items in...
Lal Bal Pal (Hindi: लाल बाल पाल, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal)
were the Swadeshi triumvirate who advocated the Swadeshi movement involving the boycott of all
imported items and the use of Indian–made goods in 1907. The last years of the nineteenth century,
saw a radical sensibility emerge among some Indian Intellectuals. This position burst onto the
national all–India scene in 1905 with the Swadeshi movement – the term is usually rendered as "self
reliance" or "self sufficiency".[1] Lal–Bal–Pal, mobilized Indians across the country against the
Bengal partition, and the demonstrations, strikes and boycotts of English goods that began in Bengal
soon spread to other regions in a broader protest against the Raj ... Show more content on

The British colonial authorities derogatorily called the great leader as "Father of the Indian unrest".
He was also conferred with the honorary title of Lokmanya, which literally means "Accepted by the
people (as their leader)". Tilak was one of the first and strongest advocates of "Swaraj" (self–rule) in
Indian consciousness. His famous quote, "Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it!" is well–
remembered in India even today. * | [edit] Early life Tilak was born in Chikhali in Ratnagiri,
Maharashtra, into a Chitpavan Brahmin family. His father was a famous schoolteacher and a
Sanskrit scholar. He died when Tilak was sixteen. His brilliance rubbed off on young Tilak, who
graduated from Deccan College, Pune in 1877. Tilak was among one of the first generation of
Indians to receive a college education.[1] Tilak was expected, as was the tradition then, to actively
participate in public affairs. He believed that "Religion and practical life are not different. To take to
Sanyasa (renunciation) is not to abandon life. The real spirit is to make the country your family
instead of working only for your own. The step beyond is to serve humanity and the next step is to
serve God." This dedication to humanity

Sale And Lease Back Strategy
Strategy:
1) Sale and lease back Strategy:
Indigo Airlines followed a unique sale and lease back strategy which is found to be very effective
(Raja & Prabhakar, 2013). It is an agreement between the airline and the leasing company. The
aircraft which is delivered from the manufacturer is immediately leased to a leasing company by the
airline and again the same aircraft is taken back for lease for five years. At the end of five years the
aircraft is permanently handed over to the leasing company. This strategy makes the airline free
from debt associated to the aircraft, depreciation etc. and also the airline gets some extra profit apart
from the investment made. So, there will be enough cash available with the airline to make
reinvestments. Indigo made a profit of $4 to $5 million on each complete transaction (Mueller,
2013).
Indigo is the most active user of this strategy in the LCC segment in the world. Indigo completed 37
such transactions in two years period from 2011 to 1st May 2013 (Raja & Prabhakar, 2013). Virgin
Australia is the second largest user of this strategy which has completed 35 transactions. India's
Spicejet also have completed 28 transactions and is after Lion Air (Mueller, 2013).
Indigo leases an aircraft for an average lease period of five and half years. This approach avoids the
costly maintenance repairs of aircrafts that would creep in after 6 years. Mainly D–check
(maintenance check) will be due at this time which is very expensive

JET–ETIHAD STRATEGIC ALLIANCE

"It is very disappointing that the recently published ICRA downgrade is based on a historic delay in
debt servicing, which occurred and was resolved in the previous financial year. Our recently
published first quarter results show a positive trend in performance and that the airline's three–year
business plan is on track," said the Jet Airways rejoinder in the first week of September when ICRA
downgraded the company's rating to D Grade (junk status) due to delays in debt servicing.
ICRA's action could make it tougher and costlier for the airline to refinance its formidable debt of
about ₹9,800 crore (as on June 30). This could put the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Strategic Alliance is critical to the successful operations of an airlines business in India? More such

Case Study Of Air India
Objective
The objective of this case study is to understand the problems plaguing the Indian aviation sector
behemoth – Air India. To analyze its organizational restructuring upon merger with Indian Airlines;
the effect it had on the physical and human capital of the company, and, how the management dealt
with the conflicts which arose from the deal.
Methodology
Findings & Observations
Company Overview
Air India, the 3rd largest airline in India in terms of passengers carried is owned by Air India
Limited, a government of India enterprise and operates a fleet of Airbus & Boeing aircraft. It is the
first to provide commercial airline services that became a public listed company after World War II.
Founded by J.R.D. Tata as Tata Airlines, it then became Air–India and spread its wings as Air–India
International Limited. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In July 1946, Tata Airlines was nationalized and was taken over by the Indian Government. It was
turned into a public enterprise and renamed as AIL. The origin of IAL dates back to 1953 when
seven domestic airlines were merged to form Indian Airlines Corporation (IAC). IAL enjoyed a
monopoly as the domestic air carrier till the Indian economy was liberalized in 1991. With the entry
of private airlines, IAL's monopoly began to decline.
With both these flagship air carriers (AIL & IAL) performing poorly, the idea of a merger between
the two began to gain ground. Praful Patel submitted the merger plan to the Union Cabinet in March
2006 for approval. The Government of India ordered Accenture Inc. to formulate a road map for the
proposed merger. According to Accenture, net synergy benefits of Rs 8.2 billion (against the
integration cost of Rs 2 billion) was envisaged, potential recurring synergies were expected to
enhance profitability by Rs 6 billion at the end of the 3rd year of

How Did The British Influence On American Culture
The transformation of administration architecture during independence and colonization
Politics has always been closely related to the transformations of architecture styles. The transition
of one region's political dynamics will certainly influence the exterior forms and the structural
connotations of the symbolic buildings. Different kind of political changes will also result different
kind of architectural stylistic shift. The independence of Turkey as a new nation and the colonization
of India by the British empire reflected the influence of political changes in architecture and how
new architecture style is introduced during such periods.
The independence of Turkey and its early development as a country full of energetic youth required
a combination of two almost contradictory ideals : In order to illustrate its disassociation with the
past Ottoman authority the new government desired international style which expresses scientific
modernization and political liberation; However, the Kemalists also wanted to preserve a certain
degree of cultural root in order to boost, if not, maintain nationalistic devotion of its citizens.
Consequently, a new hybridization of theses two ideals emerged ... Show more content on

After claiming India, the British who are influenced by the orientalism perceived the mysterious
Eastern culture as intellectually inferior. As a result, the western colonizers often consider the
Eastern culture unable to advance on their own and therefore must be governed by a more
sophisticated society. The political authority was taken by the British administration because of the
western's technology and gunnery, and rules were implemented without the affirmation of the native
population. Consequently, a new architecture style was introduced and the administration buildings
during the colonial age reflect the colonizer's intention to glorify the

Magical Mumbai Entices You To Stay Forever
Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is India's largest city and one of the largest cosmopolitan
metropolises in the world. Mumbai is India's melting pot with people from all over the country –
and the world – converging together to live harmoniously. The city is the perfect representation of
the country's dichotomy: symbolised by the presence of Bollywood in the city, Mumbai is also host
to India's largest slum population. The city itself is huge, sprawling in every direction, and this
makes sight–seeing in Mumbai much more exciting. From the rock cut caves of Elephanta to Dobi

Cultural Tourism
Cultural heritage tourism (or just heritage tourism or diaspora tourism) is a branch of tourism
oriented towards the cultural heritage of the location where tourism is occurring. The National Trust
for Historic Preservation in the United States defines heritage tourism as "travelling to experience
the places and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past," and cultural
heritage tourism is defined as "travelling to experience the places and activities that authentically
represent the stories and people of the past and present."
Culture has always been a major object of travel, as the development of the Grand Tour from the

Nearly five thousand years back flourished India's first major civilisation along the Indus River
valley. The twin cities of Mohenjodaro and Harappa now in Pakistan were ruled by priests and held
the rudiments of Hinduism. These civilisations are known to possess a sophisticated lifestyle, a
highly developed sense of aesthetics, an astonishing knowledge of town planning and an
undecipherable script language. The Indus civilization at one point of time extended nearly a million
square kilometres across the Indus river valley. It existed at the same time as the ancient
civilizations of Egypt and Sumer but far outlasted them. Surviving for nearly a thousand years the
Indus valley civilisation fell to tectonic upheavals in about 1700 BC, which caused a series of
floods.
The coming of the Aryans around 1500 BC, gave the final blow to the collapsing Indus Valley
civilisation. At the dawn of Vedic ages the Aryans came in from the North and spread through large
parts of India bringing with them their culture and religious beliefs. The Four Vedas or the important
books of Hinduism were compiled in this period.
In 567 B.C. the founder of the Buddhist Religion Gautama Buddha was born. During this time lived
Mahavira, who founded the Jain Religion. The Indian subcontinent is full of caves and monuments
devoted to these religions and are worth a visit.

Behind the Beautiful Forevers Essay
Brett Potter
HST 104 Section 002
Yixin Chen
27 November 2012
The Poverty of Annawadi as seen in Behind the Beautiful Forevers The city of Mumbai has seen
much growth in the past years. A string of elegant hotels have been set up for travelers and high–
class business men. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for those coming in and
out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to have taken a liking to being internationally
integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization. This is not the case, however; as
seen in Katherine Boo's novel Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai
Undercity. This novel is set in a slum right next to the Mumbai International Airport called ... Show

This can be seen in the novel with Abdul's father, who suffers from tuberculosis. Diseases like
tuberculosis are common in the streets of Annawadi and numerous slums just like it. This makes it
hard for Abdul's father to work which means he can not make money to support his family. This is a
common problem in many slums for many families who have members suffering from disease.
Another problem is the upper class that dwells within Mumbai. While the upper class is the minority
class in Mumbai, they control close to all of Mumbai's profits saving it all for themselves and not
helping those in need. The fact that such a small percentage of Mumbai's inhabitants controls a large
percentage of its wealth is major reason why so many poverty stricken people were forced to live in
slums like Annawadi. A third reason for the poverty of Annawadi can be seen in its slum lords. The
slums lords have total control over a slum and its inhabitants. If a person crosses paths with a slum
lord, they are as good as dead. This fear of the power of slum lords keeps the people down and
makes it almost impossible to rise out of poverty. In Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Katherine Boo
writes "A decent life was the train that hadn't hit you, the slumlord you hadn't offended, the malaria
you hadn't caught" (Page 45). These are all factors in why Annawadi faced such severe poverty. It is
easy to say that these all had an effect on Annawadi's absence

  • 1. Essay On Aviation Industry INTRODUCTION Aviation Industry plays an important role in the economic growth of anation. It not only promotes international trade but also provides an effective and fastest means of transportation across the globe. Today, in the world of globalization and cut throat competition the value of time has become more precious. The history of Indian Aviation industry lies back in the year 1912.The first domestic flight was taken between Delhi and Karachi by the Indian State Air Services. Tata Airlines started with an air mail service in the year 1912.It was renamed as Air India in 1946. They have started using paint which overall weighs 50 Kgs less. Such weight savings are negligible on their own but collectively ,they have helped Indigo to cut on costs and function as a "low cost airline". 2. Maintaining a young fleet:Indigo uses the strategy of selling and leasing its planes, thus helping the airline to constantly replace its fleet, hence preventing the need for major checks and repairs. 3. Excellent Quality of Service: Some of the reasons for the outstanding quality are as follows: a. The management and staff are hired only after the CEO meets with each of them individually. b. The airline also employs far lesser number of people as compared to other airlines. c. The airline has trained its crews to de–plane the passengers in 6 minutes and unload the baggage in 10 minutes. It regularly acheives Turn around times of around 22–25 minutes(Industry Average being much more than 30 minutes). The lesser the time taken at the airports, the more the airplane can fly and earn more 4. Reliable and On–Time Service: Indigo's Management has tried to attract customers with more than just low fares. Apart from these factors the downfall of Air India has been characterized to following major reasons: Unhappy merger of Indian Airlines and Air India Government of India went through with this merger with the hopes of a successful airline. But till date it has come out to be a failure. When any two organizations merge, they should have a harmony and sync in their culture and ways of working which in this case hasn't been achieved. Human resources department remains a non standard department, leading to inequality in pay scales, allowances and career progression. This has lead to unrest and dissatisfaction among employees. There are two unions representing the pilots from both the erstwhile companies and these unions have been at loggerheads for a long time. As the pilots from Air India flew international flights and pilots from Indian Airlines flew domestic flights, the compensation given to these pilots varied a lot which gave rise to this unrest. • 13. Classical Approach To Utilitarianism 2.1. Classical approach The Classical approach for utilitarianism has two main prominent thinkers who are Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mills. Jeremy Bentham's concept of Utilitarianism The concept of Utilitarianism was developed by Jeremy Bentham (1748–1832). He belonged to the positivist school of Jurisprudence. According to him every human life is governed by two hedonistic principles that is pleasure and pain. He believed that every individual tries to maximize his own and pleasure and also decrease pain as much as possible. Although it would seem an individualistic perspective but he also applied this principle to the society as a whole. According to him the role of every government in the society is to maximize the greatest good of the greatest number. He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He placed weight on the effectiveness of internal sanctions like guilt and remorse which serve to regulate our actions. He believed that humans are those sorts which have social feelings, feelings for others and are not only selfish. We care about people around us and when one inflicts harm over the other then it leads to a painful experience in us. One feels guilty for what one has done. With this he argued that conscience and sense of justice are emotions present in every human being through which comes the sense which involves a desire to punish those who have harmed others. Just like Bentham Mill also sought to reform law and social policy with his theory of utilitarianism. The aim of increasing happiness underlies his argument of women's suffrage and free speech. It can be seen best in his arguments regarding social status of women. He argued that it was important to improve the status of women because they were capable of these cultivated faculties, and denying them access to education and other facilities for development is resulting in a significant loss of source of happiness for the ... Approximately 70% of the American and Canadian economies are engaged in service industries. However, September 11 showed the fragility of this industry, that cost the industry much damage. The Hotel Industry income is affected by real life events because negative outcomes occur, such as less guests stay at the hotel, problems with employees, and hotel income drops dramatically. On the September 11, 2001, the hotel industry had a dramatic change. Every thing went down from that day. On this day, Islamist extremists hijacked four planes that were flying above the US. Two of them were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The buildings went down, collapsing. Many people were killed, including emergency workers and firefighters who went into the building to help people. Another was crashed into the Pentagon, the top military building in the capital city, Washington DC. The fourth hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field. • 22. Globalization In Katherine Boo's Novel Behind The... The city of Mumbai has seen much growth in the past years. A string of hotels have been set up for travelers and high–class businessmen. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for those coming in and out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to enjoy being internationally integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization. However, this is not the case as seen in Katherine Boo's novel Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity. This novel is set in a slum right next to the Mumbai International Airport called Annawadi. It focuses mainly on the life and story of the main character, Abdul. Abdul Husain and his family make a living by selling scrap metal tossed out by the upper class of Mumbai. When looking at Abdul's story, one can see the corruption that made it near impossible for globalization to have a positive effect on Annawadi. Abdul's relationship with his neighbor, one–legged Fatima, also shows how neighborhood relationships were a barrier to Annawadi's ability to be a part of Mumbai's globalization. Before examining the reasons for Annawadi's lack of effects from globalization, one must look at some of the reasons as to why Annawadi faces the shocking amount of poverty that it does. In the novel, Boo writes, "What you don't want is always going to be with you. What you want is never going to be with you. Where you don't want to go, you have to go. Measurement of Problems It has been observed that during peak hours, each train is over filled by 3–4 times its seating capacity. And during peak hours on roads, there are frequent long traffic slowdowns or halts. These busy times are measured as follows: for local trains the percent full per train and for roads the minimum speed of traffic. This measurement system can be mapped to measure the effect of solving transportation problem on the overall quality of life of Mumbaikars. By maximizing the suggested measurement specifications, a train can be filled up to 1.4–1.6 times its seating capacity and on roads, there should not be a complete traffic halt (apart from exceptional circumstances) and traffic movement should maintain a minimum of 25–35 km/h. A solution "fails" if it does not meet these specifications a minimum of 95 percent of the time. • 37. Power Of Religion : God Made Us, We Made Gods Mannat Shukla Professor Sonia Gutiérrez English 100 July 11 2014 Power of Religion "GOD MADE US, WE MADE GODS" It was the heat of the summer afternoon that radiated about the Indian temple of Shiva, a Hindu deity. The sheer amount of people running about was amazing but there was something that they all shared. Each one of them carried in their hands, a bag of rich milk that was to be offered to the statue of the deity in hopes of praising him. Milk was used to bathe the statue and the canals carried the residue of the aftermath down to the gutters. It is there along the deep canals that one can find multiple anorexic bodies leaning down and scooping up the milk from the gutters. They were hungry and poor. This was their only chance at a good meal. It was after seeing such scenes that I chose to feed that poor little malnourished child and his father instead of bathing Lord Shiva's statue, who were standing in that intolerable heat, looking at people passing by in hopes for food. Surprised at my actions, the pair simply looked at me with the kindest sets of eyes and the father of that child said: "May Allah bless you son." These words struck my consciousness ajar and I realized that they were Muslims not Hindus. I touched that man's feet (A symbol of respect to elders in Hinduism). That gesture stuck me in a dilemma, was religion really the promoter of morality? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"I doubt if the company was able to maintain profit at operational level last year," said an analyst. The company, which claims to be profitable since 2009–10, is not publicly listed and does not announce its detailed financial figures. The last years of the nineteenth century, saw a radical sensibility emerge among some Indian Intellectuals. • 43. Sale And Lease Back Strategy Strategy: 1) Sale and lease back Strategy: Indigo Airlines followed a unique sale and lease back strategy which is found to be very effective (Raja & Prabhakar, 2013). It is an agreement between the airline and the leasing company. The aircraft which is delivered from the manufacturer is immediately leased to a leasing company by the airline and again the same aircraft is taken back for lease for five years. At the end of five years the aircraft is permanently handed over to the leasing company. This strategy makes the airline free from debt associated to the aircraft, depreciation etc. and also the airline gets some extra profit apart from the investment made. So, there will be enough cash available with the airline to make reinvestments. Indigo made a profit of $4 to $5 million on each complete transaction (Mueller, 2013). Indigo is the most active user of this strategy in the LCC segment in the world. Indigo completed 37 such transactions in two years period from 2011 to 1st May 2013 (Raja & Prabhakar, 2013). Virgin Australia is the second largest user of this strategy which has completed 35 transactions. India's Spicejet also have completed 28 transactions and is after Lion Air (Mueller, 2013). Indigo leases an aircraft for an average lease period of five and half years. This approach avoids the costly maintenance repairs of aircrafts that would creep in after 6 years. In July 1946, Tata Airlines was nationalized and was taken over by the Indian Government. It was turned into a public enterprise and renamed as AIL. IAL enjoyed a monopoly as the domestic air carrier till the Indian economy was liberalized in 1991. With the entry of private airlines, IAL's monopoly began to decline. With both these flagship air carriers (AIL & IAL) performing poorly, the idea of a merger between the two began to gain ground. Praful Patel submitted the merger plan to the Union Cabinet in March 2006 for approval. The Government of India ordered Accenture Inc. to formulate a road map for the proposed merger. How Did The British Influence On American Culture The transformation of administration architecture during independence and colonization Politics has always been closely related to the transformations of architecture styles. The transition of one region's political dynamics will certainly influence the exterior forms and the structural connotations of the symbolic buildings. Different kind of political changes will also result different kind of architectural stylistic shift. The independence of Turkey as a new nation and the colonization of India by the British empire reflected the influence of political changes in architecture and how new architecture style is introduced during such periods. The independence of Turkey and its early development as a country full of energetic youth required a combination of two almost contradictory ideals : In order to illustrate its disassociation with the past Ottoman authority the new government desired international style which expresses scientific modernization and political liberation; However, the Kemalists also wanted to preserve a certain degree of cultural root in order to boost, if not, maintain nationalistic devotion of its citizens. Consequently, a new hybridization of theses two ideals emerged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These civilisations are known to possess a sophisticated lifestyle, a highly developed sense of aesthetics, an astonishing knowledge of town planning and an undecipherable script language. The Indus civilization at one point of time extended nearly a million square kilometres across the Indus river valley. Behind the Beautiful Forevers Essay Brett Potter HST 104 Section 002 Yixin Chen 27 November 2012 The Poverty of Annawadi as seen in Behind the Beautiful Forevers The city of Mumbai has seen much growth in the past years. A string of elegant hotels have been set up for travelers and high– class business men. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for those coming in and out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to have taken a liking to being internationally integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization. This is not the case, however; as seen in Katherine Boo's novel Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity. This novel is set in a slum right next to the Mumbai International Airport called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be seen in the novel with Abdul's father, who suffers from tuberculosis. Diseases like tuberculosis are common in the streets of Annawadi and numerous slums just like it. This makes it hard for Abdul's father to work which means he can not make money to support his family. This is a common problem in many slums for many families who have members suffering from disease. Another problem is the upper class that dwells within Mumbai. While the upper class is the minority class in Mumbai, they control close to all of Mumbai's profits saving it all for themselves and not helping those in need. The fact that such a small percentage of Mumbai's inhabitants controls a large percentage of its wealth is major reason why so many poverty stricken people were forced to live in slums like Annawadi. A third reason for the poverty of Annawadi can be seen in its slum lords. The slums lords have total control over a slum and its inhabitants. If a person crosses paths with a slum lord, they are as good as dead. This fear of the power of slum lords keeps the people down and makes it almost impossible to rise out of poverty. In Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Katherine Boo writes "A decent life was the train that hadn't hit you, the slumlord you hadn't offended, the malaria you hadn't caught" (Page 45). These are all factors in why Annawadi faced such severe poverty. It is easy to say that these all had an effect on Annawadi's absence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
