Summary Of Women In A Train To Pakistan And The Breast Giver
According to Loomba "As national emblems, women are usually cast as mothers, or wives and are
called upon to literally and figuratively reproduce the nation". Women play an essential role in the
nation and colonialism Women characters are used to represent the colonized in both A train to
Pakistan and The Breast Giver. Women are sex–objects and commodities in both texts.
In a Train to Pakistan there are two female characters Nooran and Haseena. Females in the novel
were described as weak. Hukum Chand says: "I know it all. Our Hindu women are like that. So pure
that they would rather commit suicide than let a stranger touch them. We Hindus never raise our
hands to strike women, but these Muslims have no respect for weaker sex. This quote shows that not
only were women thought of as the weaker sex, but they were also being raped by the other
community during partition. Though men were being killed women were being first being raped
then killed and had their breasts cut off.
We also see that in this novel there is a Patriarchal society. A patriarchy is when a male holds the
power and control of property. Lala ram is an example of this he is the head of a Hindu family in
Mano Majra. The women of the house have no power, we see this when the women informed the
dacoits that 'I tell you Lalaji is not in. He has taken the keys with them. We have nothing in the
house." Other examples are when Nooran goes unwillingly with her father instead of informing her
father of her desire to

Sex And Gender Socialization : Sex
Sex and Gender Socialization
Sex as explained in "Essentials of Sociology: A Down–to–Earth Approach", is that sex is a
biological characteristic that distinguishes females and males, consisting of primary and secondary
sex characteristics (Henslin, 2015). Gender is the behaviors and attitudes that society has put into
place for people to act their sex. Girls act like girls and boys act like boys. The sociological
significance of gender is that it is a device by which society controls its member. Gender sorts us, on
the basis of sex, into different life experience. Sex is a biological characteristic that distinguish
females and males, consisting of primary and secondary sex characteristics. (Henslin, 2015, p. 292)
Gender is defined the behaviors and attitudes that society has put into place for people to act their
sex. Girls act like girls and boys act like boys.
Little girls grow up being a princess, her father's calls her that on a regular basis. Princess is always
watching mommy while trying to emulate her at the same time. Mommies put on make–up,
mommies cook, washing dishes and be the caretaker for her family while remaining beautiful. Little
boys grow watching their fathers and are told that one day they will be the head of their house too,
and needed to learn how to take care of it. Little boys start assisting dad with cutting the lawn,
helping his mother out by taking out the trash, washing the family car, also learn how to change a

Analysis Of Lullabies For Little Criminals
After analyzing Lullabies for little criminals in a feminist theory lens, it becomes clear that this
novel is based on the portrayal of women In a male dominated society. Men are described as
stronger or more important in the story than women are. Baby meets a lot of women in her 2 year
life span in the novel, but they never make as much of an imprint in her life as the males do. She has
no mother and so you think that she would be out looking for someone who can be a role model for
her. Instead because of the way her society is built she is forced into something that the men think is
normal, and that all the women seem to be doing. Her father albeit being a junkie has high hopes for
his daughter and doesn 't want her to be seen as a "whore", yet even he can 't stop the pressure of
society being put on her.
Baby views the men in her life as more important or impactful than the women. She does meet
many different women, but they all seem to be either old mothers or more predominantly rebels and
prostitutes. She thinks of women as things that fascinate her, because she doesn 't understand them;
even though she is a woman herself. It makes the reader wonder when there will be a decent female
character In the story. What it really makes the reader feel when a new female is introduced is that
they either, won 't stay long, they are prostitutes, she's a bad influence, or she is a bully. The
portrayal of women in baby's life isn 't very significant(her mother is mentioned

Eve's Apology In Defense Of Women By Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum
In "Eve's Apology in Defense of Women," an excerpt from Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum, Aemilia
Lanyer uses biblical illusions such as the story of Eve eating the forbidden fruit, as well as satirical
diction to convey a message of unjust attitudes toward the female gender. These attitudes express an
imbalanced judgement of women in religious settings, a notion that would continue to be used not
only when alluding to religion, but also in other everyday life events. Lanyer, however, uses this
satirical language to argue that Eve is only to blame as much as the male characters in the story,
Adam and Satan. Since being written in 1611, Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum has interested readers of
all kinds due to its incredible use of feminist diction in several different poems and paragraphs, all
of which are written by a young female author, Aemilia Lanyer. According to Subjectivity and
Women's Poetry in Early Modern England by Lynette McGrath, Lanyer was trying to sway
aristocratic dedicatees into a benevolent membership in a women's community by "poetically
invoking the attractive and idealized discourses of maternity, religion and women's nurturing love
for each other" (page 211). In "Eve's Apology in Defense of Women" the reader can recognize this
heavy use of religious context to persuade her audience to grasp this idea of building a women's
community via the unjust treatment reserved in the very first book of Genesis. The first line of the
poem, which reads "Now Pontius Pilate is to

Single Sex School
Why Single Sex School?
Single sex schools are the best way of education and vital for our children in order for them to be
taught in an environment that is away from distractions and to be more successful, focused and
emotionally stable. There are several reasons which shows that single sex schools are important and
why it's the best way for good education.
The first reason is that boys and girls are not equal and develop at different times and speeds;
therefore they should be taught separately. Acording to Gilbert (2007), Aacademic planners and
school superintendents in the 1960's had this foundamental assumption; they used to think that
separate means unequal, so fearing that they would be unfair, provoking inequality and sexual ...

The second reason why single sex schools are the way to go is that boys and girls distract each other
from their education, especially in adolescence as their sexual and emotional sides develop. They
spend too much time trying to impress or sexually harassing each other especially boys toward girls.
Academic competition between the sexes is unhealthy and only adds to the unhappiness and anxiety
among weaker students. As Trichia Kelleher, a school principle, argues "rather than girls defining
themselves by their interests, they define themselves by what the boys think of them or what other
girls think boys think of them". Furthermore, John Silber (2002), President of Boston University,
declared that his university would prioritize male applications in order to even up the student
composition and ensure the male population did not become 'ungentlemanly' towards women due to
their numerical inferiority. John as a preident of Boston saw how females can be a sexual distraction
towarad males in class rooms and tried to slove that by admitting more males to the university. A
single–sex environment is therefore a space where (children) can learn without feeling pressurized
by the other sex.
As odd it may sound, some people argues that children need to be exposed to the opposite sex in
preparation for later life; this fact should be further evaluated and analysed logically. Nobody in this
world comes without parents, and as children we can get

Women 's Fight For Women Essay
Women fight for opportunity to be equal held to the standards of men. Although, in military they do
deserve the right to be frontline in combat women; people argue women should not. Many
Americans feel women should not be on the frontline for battle. If women fight in battle the are at
higher risk for physical injury. As a woman they are more likely to get pregnant and spend time
away from battle because of children. Men feel like they can't share same bond with women as men
because of the gender difference. However, others feel women are capable of accomplishing same
goals as men. People believe if you are trained and work hard regardless of gender you can get the
job done. In the article "Coed Combat Units" it is published with a strong message, and Owens
makes decent assumptions throughout the article, which is a good argument for why women should
not be positioned in combat or support positions.
Mackubin Thomas Owens argues against the ideal of placing American women in combat or in
support positions associated with direct ground combat in the article "Coed Combat Units" (Owens,
2013, pg. 348). He believes that there are significant differences between men and women. Females
are about 5 inches shorter than men, have half the strength as a man and less muscle mass (Owens,
2013, pg.). A female body skeleton is lighter causing more strain on her body from carrying heavy
loads than a man. Women become pregnant, as well as, after birth there are more problems causing

The Boy and Girl Dilemma: Sex and Gender Dismantled
Gender is one of the most basic forms of human communication and one of the most essential forms
of expression in society, yet the concept of what gender actually is is greatly skewed, over–
dramatized, and politicized. Almost every form of media, education, and/or entertainment rigorously
enforces the ideals to which culture holds and views people of different genders. Most of this is
done so by oppressing individuals who do not fall within the provided spectrum. Society finds a
language of humor in transsexualism, intersexualism, homosexual expression, and other means of
crossing the socially constructed boundaries of what the public deems gender 'is' and 'is not', and it
poses groups of people as the punchline to a joke. Like many forms of oppression, this works to
dehumanize and objectify as well as comically stereotype the people who fall into the category of
'queer' in their expression, therefore justifying passive ignorance in the public eye. The
consequences of this autocratic 'gender/sex binary exclusive' mindset are deadly. The feminist
movement, as well as the anti–feminist reaction, has sparked an incline in the study of gender, sex,
sexuality, and the differences between what is considered 'male' and/or 'female'. To define the origin
and legitimacy of gender, begin first by understanding 'biological sex', the binary (male vs female)
in which our society as selected our cultures gender roles. Chromosomes (male: XY, female: XX),
genitalia (male: penis, female:

The Coolidge Effect Essay
PSY253 Assignment: Week1
Although Finkel et al. (2015)'s model distinguishing several relationship stages in familiarity and
interpersonal attraction seemed quite reasonable and convincing, I hoped that they would have
discussed a little bit more about the nature of sex differences in attraction to improve their model,
especially when they mentioned the Coolidge effect while reviewing the surface contact paradigm.
The Coolidge effect has been considered to be a very basic sex difference in eagerness and
motivation to mate with new partners, or with multiple partners concurrently, which is widely shared
across mammalian species. It can be highly adaptive for men to copulate and possibly impregnate
multiple women because there is almost no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense, we could also think of other relationship stages which are categorized before and after
having a sexual relationships or having offspring with the sexual/romantic partner (or corresponding
events such as having married/cohabited). Moreover, we could also add a biological component to
the model to consider what kinds of adaptive problems we face when choosing and assessing
potential or existing partners. Both men and women should react to familiarity with their partners
with the ultimate aim to attain whatever qualities they need to solve adaptive problems effectively.
For instance, when people themselves are in the stage of choosing mates or friends, familiarity
should be a prerequisite to assess their quality as a desirable mating or cooperative partner, so that
familiarity should promote a form of attraction designed to gather more information. On the other
hand, once people get enough information and decide to commit to a relationship with the target,
such as they are in the

Why Are Women Are Men And Women?
Most mothers nowadays have the choice to stay at home and look after their children. Most girls
nowadays have the right to go to school and learn. Most women nowadays are "equal" to men and
can do most things men can, Or can they?...
Are woman really equal to men?....
Firstly,This should not be seen as offensive, but to purely make a statement that men and women are
still not equal, even in the 21st century, is unacceptable. Respect should be given to both sexes, and
women should be given the same privileges men have and the same chances, vice–versa.
Even though Men and women are seen as "equal" in the 21st century, in countries like south and
west Asia that is not the case. 80% of out–of–school girls are likely to never attend school, however
16% of out–of–school boy are more likely to go to school. Providing girls with the chance of going

Rhetorical Analysis Of Plato 's Republic
In Plato's Republic he has many examples of rhetoric. In regards to the controversial topic of women
and eugenics in which Plato is almost forced into mentioning because of Adeimantus and Glaucon,
he uses various rhetorical statements to portray his view on the matter. His readers believe women
should be equal, so Plato attempts to persuade his readers into thinking he believes the same. For
example, in the passage on women and family Plato states, "we shall assign these to each
accordingly; but if the only difference apparent between them is that the female bears and the male
begets, we shall not admit that this is the difference relevant for our purpose, but shall still maintain
that our male and female Guardians ought to follow the same occupations" (164). He uses the
women are equal and can do the same things as men strategy in order to make Athenian men
understand what he is trying to say while still stroking their egos by using rhetoric. Men are in
general are hard to persuade when it comes to power, so as a result Plato gives a sense of gender
equality while at the same time still giving men the upper hand. Now let us take a look into the
background of the story. Plato gives his ideals on a perfect society and everything it should include.
He basically implies that justice is rightness, and rightness is whatever he feels it should be. He
breaks society down into guardians, wage earners, and auxiliaries. Wage earners are people such as
surgeons or shoemakers.

Commodity is a word that is becoming increasingly associated with the music industry, as women

present for many years. However this ubiquitous injustice has only been highlighted more recently,
due to more people speaking out about how wrong it is. I have chosen to write about this topic as I
believe is it relevant to today's society of gender equality. My topic explores all the ideas
surrounding my hypothesis of "To what extent has the Female body been commodified in the music
industry, from the 1970's to present day?" Through the use of a questionnaire, my research and

Clark (2000) "Women, Gender, and Religion," talks about how the Ancient Greeks believe men and
women were two different species. Men are the superior and women are the inferior. Clark says
{"Greek medical writers differ in their ideas about male and female bodies. The Hippocratic school
presented men and women as separate species (what we might call a "two sex" model),' whereas
Aristotle considered women to be, 'Imperfect or defective men in what has been termed a 'one sex'
model. Women lacked the firm control of bodily boundaries that men had. Women changed shape
during pregnancy, and they leaked: blood, tears, and emotion. 'Since woman does not bound herself,
she must be bounded.' This is achieved by organization of her space, prescription of her gestures,
ordering of her rituals, imposition of headgear, attendants, and other trappings."} This describes
women as a completely different and weak species, which have no control over who they are. They
are fragmented beings. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed that the way to "bound" the female

questions:
1. Gerda Lerner identifies two different kinds of "history" on p. 4. What are they, and what are the

One of the main points of The Creation of Patriarchy that she addresses, and even creates a new way

The Women 's Movement For Equality
Throughout the course of history, women and young girls have been viewed as the weaker sex.
Females did not, and at times still do not, receive the same level of respect or opportunities as men.
Leading up to the 1960's, women's primary physical activities were cheerleading and dancing, while
the men's were more geared towards football and basketball. The women's movement for equality
was in the late 1960's, during which women finally began to have their voices heard by others. As a
result of the powerful women's movement, the Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 was
enacted by President Richard Nixon. This federal law states that, "No person in the United States

It is stated that if the program is federally funded, then it is to abide by Title IX, thus allowing
women to have the same opportunity as men to participate in the same activities and have the same
educational opportunities. According to the NCAA, "There are three basic parts of the Title IX as it
applies to athletics: participation and scholarships. Also, other benefits such as equipment and
supplies, scheduling of games and practice times, travel and daily allowance/per diem, access to
tutoring, coaching, locker rooms, practice and competitive facilities, medical and training facilities
and services, housing and dining facilities and services, publicity and promotions, support services
and recruitment of student–athletes." . The purpose of Title IX is not to require identical programs
for both women's and men's athletics, but to ensure that one team is not compared to, or favored
more than another; this pertains to specifically men over women or even women over men. In 1973
Dr. Christine Grant became The University of Iowa's first women's athletic director (AD) and served
in this very position until her retirement in 2000. Prior to accepting this job, Grant was enrolled in

Sex Segregation
Sex segregation is one of the most visible signs of inequality in the labor force. Throughout history,
women have been socially and professionally unequal to men. Women were expected to be confined
to the home in order to take care of the children and do the required chores, while the man of the
house was granted the luxury of experiencing the world by working to provide for the family.
"Women were long considered naturally weaker than men, squeamish, and unable to perform work
requiring muscular or intellectual development. This ignored the fact that caring for children and
doing such tasks as milking cows and washing clothes also required heavy, sustained labor."

the first solutions to be made in order to correct sex segregation in the workplace is by properly
educating students on the labor market. Due to the fact that women are already disadvantaged when
it comes to education, a stride needs to be made when focusing on career education. We continue to
bolster sex segregation by limiting women's interest, knowledge and preparation for occupations
that have been predominantly labeled male. Another solution to this societal issue could be the

Human Behavior And Sexual Relationships Essay
In today's society, a lot of emphasis are put on the bodily appearance of an individual, specifically in
relation to deciding on a mate. Additionally, people are very picky in relation to choosing mate.
Human behavior is determined in large part by culture each human way of life has a unique set of
norms, rituals, and taboos associated with selecting a mate. People also have a uniquely good sized
potential to have interaction in sexual relationships for cultural motives with no intentions of
reproduction. For a few human beings this may expand to participants of the identical sex.
In this lab we examined the variations in desire of mate between ladies and men. We had been to
determine which developments/values each men and women value the most when picking a
someone special.
Methods: For the first a part of this lab we examined which traits/developments had been critical to
which gender. To do that, all the people in the lab where told to fill out a Human mate questioner.
On the questioner, there was a listing of attributes: Friends Approve, Wealth, Academic
Achievement, Ambition, Intelligence, Physique, Fashion Sense, Sense of Humor, Shared Values,
Fidelity Commitment. The class were to rank the attributes from 1 which is the most critical to 10
which is the least critical. Everybody then turned in there results into the teacher who then
calculated the averages. Primarily based on those averages we could decide how women and men
pick their mates. Some of the attributes

Diversity or rather, the lack of understanding diversity may be one of the most prevalent issues in
the world today. Though the World Wide Web has bridged the cultural gap some, it will never fully

from an outsider's perspective. Before the internet, careers in anthropology and similar fields made
information available through ethnographic readings and studies. A key inquiry anthropologists seek

A more specific type of cultural oppression is what Amazons feel that men have over women.
Amazons portrayed in Y are an extremist group of women who believe that the men died for a
reason, and they intend to embrace the new freedom and control given to them by Mother Earth
(Vaughan, 96). Subjugation that these women felt from their male counterpart was apparently
detrimental to their lives. In "The Sworn Virgins of Albania", women decide to take on a male status
for various reasons such as protection, avoiding an arranged marriage, and keeping the family name
(Young, 253). With all men extinct, the sworn virgins would have no need to exist. According to
"Different Words, Different Worlds", men's authority over women is seen through chivalrous acts
such as opening a door. What they believe is in fact happening is that the man gives the woman
permission to walk first, but he can easily take that consent away just the same, thus confirming he
has the control (Tannen, 231). Language is another tool used to control and belittle.
Language is only fully understood within the context of its culture. After the Amazon leader is
called a cunt by a rebelling girl, she explains there is no longer offense in the word since the men
made society see it in a negative light and disregard its ancient historical meaning of all–powerful
(Vaughan, 112). In the movie Ma Vie en Rose,

Feminism And Its Impact On Women Essay
For decades, women have been striving to gain equality with men. Equality in terms of social,
political and economic. They have been held back and their opportunities were taken away just
because of the fact that they were females. This led to the evolution of Feminist Movement. I
believe that women have every right to be equal with men and Feminism is slowly accomplishing
this. But, under the shade of Feminism, few women take undue advantage of their sex. A radical
approach to Feminism is what is termed as Feminazism. A Feminazi is basically a person who uses
the cause of Feminism for ill–jobs based on gender disputes. A Feminazi is a sexist person who
believes in female dominance. Feminazi is a derogatory term used to describe either feminists who
are perceived as extreme or radical or women who are perceived to seek superiority over men, rather
than equality.
These days our nation is witnessing a wave of Feminazism. On the name of Feminism, a battle of
sexes has been waged. These Feminazis have created a mess in the society. An all new era is rising
high. An era, when males have to live under the dark shadows of fear of being defamed or refuted
by the society. A society where Females are always the victims and Males are always the culprit. A
thick layer of rust has covered the brains of people so badly that our society is losing out on being
practical and rational.

Sexisim Female Athletes
The Harsh reality of the treatment of Female Athletes
Professional female athletes are some of the most talented people in the world, though they are often
not treated like it. The harsh treatment of professional female athletes in our society, reflects what
our society thinks about women, that they are the weaker sex and are not as capable as men. The
amount of sexisim female athletes have to face on a day to day basis proves that in 2017, we are still
living in a very sexist and male dominated society. Although, some might argue that professional

Persuasive Essay On The Lie
The Lie All throughout history, human society has told lies. The lies may be intention or non–
intention but everyone has told a lie at least once in their lifetime. We learn from an early age of
toddler, that lying is bad. We grow older, and learn telling lies only leads to big issues. Teenagers
may tell a lie to hide the truth from their parents, a parent may tell a lie to hide the truth from the
child. Either way may it be with good intentions or not, lying is bad. The debate remains, why do we
still lie even after knowing it is wrong?
Stephanie Ericcson wrote, "All the 'isms'– racism, sexism, ageism, et al.– are founded on and fueled
by the stereotype and the cliché, which are lies of exaggeration, omission, and ignorance. They are
always dangerous. They take a single tree and make it a landscape." (Ericsson, 3). What did
Stephanie mean by this statement? Are stereotypes and the cliché the root cause of the issues in
society? Can society change these stereotypes thought process and clichés to advance to the next
level?
There are many different types of stereotypes and/or clichés, throughout society. The most obvious
stereotypes relate to race and sex. These stereotypes have been going on for so long that the chain to
unbreak them is hard. A prime example is the female or male. Females are said to be weaker
physically and mentally but stronger emotionally. While males are said to be stronger physically and
mentally but weaker emotionally. Many can analyze why this could be. May perhaps deals with our
brain and what side of the brain we are using, while others may say environment effects it. Why
others say may perhaps it's our chemical makeup to begin with. Individuals are just that individual's,
no two people are the same including the anomy of twins. Even twins are two different individuals
even having various of similarities. The impact of stereotyping and/or clichés are heavy. A female
child, grows up thinking that girls are not supposed to be able to do this or that. They are supposed
to be princesses and just look pretty. They could also hear repeating that girls are supposed to just
make babies and their place is the kitchen. The girls/ women that are subject to these types of lies

Richard Dawkins had a concept known as "meme". Cultural meme was developed as a way of
sensationalizing the fact that genes aren't everything in the world of Darwinism. "A meme can be
defined as unit of cultural inheritance which ties into the idea of the replicator the fundamental unit
of Darwinism (Brockman, 1995, p. 80)." It can be a place to put fear for the unknown. Gender can
be defined as expectations, relationships between, and behaviors fitting to women and men which
steam from cultural shaped thoughts and behaviors. Gender is a way to organize the culture, it can
be used to describe expected jobs, feelings, and behaviors based on the sex of the individual. In the
readings about gender there were a lot of examples of memes. In the Introduction by Bem, she
speaks about the history of the western culture and how there are three beliefs about women and
men which have triumphed: that they have essentially different psychological and sexual nature, that
men are inherently the dominant sex, and that both happen naturally. In regard to Bem's Lenses of
Gender there are two lenses which would fit into the idea of memes. These lenses are: Lens of
Androcentrism or male–centeredness, this is when men are treated as human and women are viewed
as "other" and the Lens of Gender Polarization during which the male–female difference is overlaid
on so many aspects of a society that a cultural linking is created between sex and almost every part
of life. Fine's writing also

Does Procreation Lead A Successful City State?
Does procreation lead to a successful city–state? Socrates believed that to be true. The Sexual
Congress has no elitist mentality about what would occur from their procreation. They both had
different ideas about how the sexual intercourse would occur. Socrates had the idea that only the
guardians must be able to have sex, and the inferior people may have children, but they must be
hidden. Especially in the case of a deformed offspring. In The Sexual Congress, men must first have
sex with the ugliest 'broad' in order to be able to have sex with a beautiful, young, soft, and smooth
girl. I believe that these two ideas collide. Socrates talks about how each gender may have their
differences, but they are the same in nature. While The Sexual Congress does not touch on each
gender and their differences. Also, Socrates talks about each gender and their functions in society.
While Praxagora's law is only about sex and in which order it must occur in. The only big similarity
with these laws is, about whom they can have sex with, and when they can have sex. Socrates
believed that in a perfect city the guardians must procreate in order to have the best possible
offspring. But, the sexual intercourse must take part at a certain time of year, and the guardians may
only have sexual intercourse during that set time period. These guardians must also be in their
prime. Women guardians from the age of twenty to the age of forty, and men the age of 20 until they
are fifty five. If the

Gender Is An Indispensable Component Of Social System
1.1Gender
Gender is a range of characteristics that are used to differentiate among male and female with each
other which is seen to distinguish between male and female entities, extending from one 's
biological sex to, in humans, one 's social role or gender end entity. The World health organization
(WHO), for example, uses "gender" to refer to "the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities,
and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women". Finally, the same
word, gender, is also, commonly applied to the independent concept of distinctive word categories
in certain languages. Grammatical gender has little or nothing to do with differences between men
and women (Wikipedia, 2009) .

Men use talk to emphasize status whereas women use it to create connection. But here's the kick,
women speak and hear a language of connection and intimacy; men speak and hear a language of
status and independence. So, for many men, conversations are primarily a means to preserve
independence and maintain status in a hierarchical social order. For many women, conversations are
negotiations for closeness in which people try to seek and give confirmation and support.
Women is often considered as weaker sex:
Sociologists and psychologists have studied the problems of working women in depth. According to
them, self doubt and concern about meeting other people's expectations must continually lower in
the thoughts and actions of women at work.
Dissimilar Occupations:
Choice of occupation is considered to be one of the key factors contributing to the male female
wage differential. In other words, careers with a majority of female employees tend to pay less than
careers that employ a majority of males.
Discriminatory Statistics :
In the workplace is unintentional discrimination based on the presumed probability that a worker
will or will not remain with the company for a long period of time. Specific to women, since
employers believe that women are more likely to drop out of the labour force

The Negative Effects Of Gender Roles
To put it in simpler terms, gender roles are basically a generalization that is made about the roles or
behavior that is deemed appropriate based on gender. CNN releases an article by Emanuella
Grinberg and Victoria Larned on September 20, 2017 that discusses how gender roles directly affect
both boys and girls in their childhood and adolescence. The authors provide examples of
generalizations made about both males and females. Study was made that concentrated on the health
inequities that stemmed from gender roles. The digital news writers suggest that enforcing gender
roles can lead individuals to feel the need to conform, to have low self–esteem, and fear ostracism. It
is proposed that children and teens should be advised about sex, relationships, and identity at an
earlier age to reduce the impact made from enforcing these gender stereotypes. Based on the
research and study, efforts should be made to reduce the negative effects of gender roles on society.
Keywords: stereotypes, gender roles, generalizations
Many have conducted research and studies on the idea of the gender roles, and center their focus on
the evolutionary aspect, how boys differ from girls, or how people are greatly influenced by them.
However, an article written by two digital news writers, Emanuella Grinberg and Victoria Larned,
put the spotlight on the mental and health problems that arise in society as consequences of
enforcing these generalizations. Knowledge on the

Essay about Is the exclusion of women from frontline...
Excluding women from frontline combat is essentially sexist. Regardless of the many substantial
contributions women have made to the United States military from the American Revolutionary war
to the contemporary Iraq and Afghanistan wars, it has long been a sanctuary of masculinity, which
consequently, has resulted in the organization's steadfast resistance against women's direct martial
participation. The opponents of women frontline combat argue that females are unable to execute
the required responsibilities of battle based on gender and gender role stereotypes. Such opinions are
comprised of the assumption that women are physically and psychologically weaker than men are,

According to a 2012 BBC article, women's involvement in combat zones has increased due to
indistinct battle lines during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, in which "it has become less and less
possible to keep women out of combat conditions," has resulted in a loosening of limitations for
women serving in the US military. While women are not yet allowed to serve in frontline combat,
the eased limits have increased their opportunities for both occupational advancement and proving
their worth in combat positions. Additionally, once a soldier has received suitable training, and
meets the requirements for frontline duty, any combatant should, ideally, do what he or she was
trained for, despite his or her sex. Clearly then, whoever chooses to, or is chosen to be on frontlines
has likely steeled their emotions allowing for appropriate functional performance. Opponents to
women in combat contend females require supplementary accommodations based on sex
distinctions, such as menstrual cycles, pregnancies, and restroom accommodations, and as such,
women will disrupt the efficacy of the military unit. While pregnancy is certainly a possibility for
many female soldiers, it is doubtful that a woman dedicated to obtaining a combat position would
allow herself to become pregnant, thus jeopardizing her hard work toward martial occupational
expansion. Interestingly, as Elizabeth

Law Enforcement Should Be Legal
I would make the argument among their groups that have been discussed that women would receive
the most and least unequal treatment by law enforcement. In the earlier years of law enforcement
sex crimes failed to get the attention they garnered, the investigations many time were shabby and
many times officers felt like the victim got what they deserved by dress, action or history. It is now
know that each victim is different and everyone will have a different way that they will deal or
respond to this type of crime. This is why most departments have specialized sex crime units that
deal specifically with this type of crime. They are specifically trained to deal not only with the crime
scene portion, the victim's body as a crime scene but the victim themselves and the emotional side.
As a chief and or lead detective I would more than likely have this type training or know who to call
that has had it to respond to the scene. The victim will go through many stages during a rape, which
could last days to several weeks. Rape shield laws were passed in the state to protect the victims of
rape from the emotional distress that can occur when being questioned about their prior sexual
history on the witness stand. It is this type of legal maneuvering by defense council that creates fear
among victims. The fear is being humiliated in front of their peers and sometimes these cases can
take a very high profile turn and be broadcast live on TV. We have to look no further than

Lysistrata and The Importance of Being Ernest comparative...
Lysistrata is a play that was set in Athens between 410 and 412 BC. At the time the play was set,
women were expected to have no rights in society, and were not allowed/expected to discuss their
opinions in matters subjective to men only. Women also had to obey their husbands at all time, and
accept any demands made by their husband. The Importance of Being Ernest (TIOBE) was set
during the Victorian Era, and at this time, the way women were expected to behave was similar to
that of Lysistrata. And men were expected to be committed, and had a strict set of rules to follow
when trying to address a woman. However, in Lysistrata, the female characters (mainly Lysistrata

Algernon is demonstrated as a comical character. He is also shown to be a liar and this is seen when
he tells Lady Bracknell that there were "no cucumbers in the market" to make the cucumber
sandwiches; when he ate them all. He is also very open with women and engages is physical contact
before permission from Cecily's guardian, Jack. Algernon also meets Cecily in a wrong manner as
he runs off to Jack's country house uninvited; which isn't reflective of an Ideal Victorian man at all.
The women in Lysistrata are portrayed as strong and confident. This is seen in the form of the main
character of the play, Lysistrata; who is the first one to propose the idea of withholding sex as a
measure to stop the war. She demonstrates the qualities of a true leader as she has a well–planned
strategy to get her way: "if we would compel our husbands to make peace, we must refrain". At first
this idea is instantly rejected by the women, but Lysistrata manages to convince them with her
words of wisdom. This indicates how strong and perseverant Lysistrata is, and this is displayed by
her idea of giving up sex. This is likely to be appreciated by the contemporary Greek audiences, as
sex is described as the "most beautiful thing in the world" and Lysistrata is giving it up.

Asexual And Sexual Evolution Similarities
The main difference between asexual and sexual evolution is the process in which new individuals
are created. With asexual organisms reproduction involves creating an exact copy of the parent often
by itself. Sexual reproduction, on the other hand, involves meiosis and the fusion of an egg and
sperm from two separate parents in order to create a new, unique individual. This causes vast
differences in the evolution of each. The most prominent disadvantage of sexual evolution is the fact
that two individuals of opposite sex are required to reproduce as this makes the process much slower
in rate and causes vast challenges from the environment due to limited resources and parents.
Asexual reproduction, however, has the ability to duplicate alone and has a extremely fast and
effective rate of reproduction. The disadvantages that come with this are major as a single, harmful
mutation can be passed through an entire family tree through copying errors with little to no
variation. "Muller's Ratchet" theory explains how damaging mutations in an asexual species will
eventually cause the population to become extinct while a sexual species will overcome this as its
offspring have variation which could keep a gene free of the harmful mutations through evolution.
This variation is the main reason sexual reproduction has evolved so vastly and effectively.
The first bilateral flatworms had huge impact on many future animal designs and sex strategies
because they were one of the first species to branch off starting the tree of bilateral species on earth
making them bilaterians earliest ancestor. This is important to understanding how and why many
bilateral animals have evolved to what they are today. The most important aspect about the
flatworms innovative design is the placement of the brain and eyes connected by a central nervous
system. The purpose of having its brain and eyes at the head of the body makes it very effective for
tracking and hunting prey and resources. This innovative structure created a new body plan that
many predators and prey would come to follow in evolution.
One animal that I found interesting, in terms of extreme innovations to reproduction, was the Jacana
Birds and their method of polyandry, which

A more obvious qualifier is when the sentence already begins with words which make it

Questions Second, tag questions are typically used by women which means that after making a
statement, there follows a question relating to that statement, " I enjoyed the concert, didn't you?" or
" It is a beautiful day, isn't it?" As less assertive than declaratory statements, tag questions assume
that women must ask permission for their feelings, likes, or dislikes. Use of qualifiers and tag
questions like ( I guess this is correct, don't you?) may suggest that women are uncertain, tentative,
or equivocal in what they are saying. They are also used as a defense against potential criticism. (
Lindsey, 1994,p72) Usage of Intensifiers Another form of the female register is the use of
intensifiers which Robin Lakoff (1975) refers to as "empty" adjectives or adverbs. Some of these

Gender And Male And Gender
Throughout today 's society, almost every aspect of someone's actions is based on whether or not he
or she fits into the social norms that have been created. It is now clear that males are the dominant
figures in our society. Norms in society do not just come randomly to one 's life; they start since a
child is born. When a child is born the first question asked by the parents, family, and friends is the
gender of the child, whether it is a girl or a boy. In contrast, the terms sex and gender have always
been interdependent terms but have distinct meanings. Sex is male and female while gender is
masculine and feminine. In essence, sex refers to the biological differences and hormonal profiles.
For example females have boobs and males do not. In the other hand, gender describes the
characteristics that a society or culture present as masculine or feminine. For example, the color blue
is for boys and pink is for girls which not has always been the case. The article from the publication
Earnshaw 's Infants ' Department "The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the

while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl". Jayme Poisson, a journalist, in

In "Capabilities as Fundamental Entitlements", American philosopher Martha Nussbaum explains
why women do not dispute these claims saying "...women frequently exhibit 'adaptive preferences',
preferences that have adjusted to their second–class status"(Nussbaum 34). Because women show
'adaptive preferences' , they are content being on lower footing than their male counterpart; society
assumes a blind eye and incepts gender constructions that women are submissive and prefer being
passive caretakers whereas men dominate and are regarded as active money makers. Moreover,
Nussbaum claims that "Women's current preferences often show distortions that are the result of
unjust background conditions. And agency and freedom are particularly important goals for women,
who have so often been treated as passive dependents"(Nussbaum 34). In a way, Nussbaum is
acknowledging the gender construction set up by civilization. Due to the lack of enthusiasm to be in
an equilibrium as men, women ultimately get ' the short end of the stick'. Due to passivity, they
assume positions with less labor, such as being the main caregiver to children, and claim to be the
docile weaker sex. Not because of biology, but because of failing to claim that they want to be
equal. This dilemma of not owning up to equality, is displayed in media, particularly in the news.

Feminism In The Handmaid's Tale And The Scarlet Letter
According to the dictionary, "feminism" is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the
equality of the sexes. Many stories have been written to denounce the difference between the two
sexes. Indeed, one of the main themes of both the The Handmaid's Tale and The Scarlet Letter is
feminism. The Scarlet Letter was a book written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1850 and it tells the
story of a woman, Hester Prynne, who committed adultery while she was married to a man named
Chillingworth. Adultery frowned upon by the Puritans and was harshly punished. On the other hand,
The Handmaid's Tale, the other book is about a dystopian future with the Republic of Gilead.
Women are very restricted and have to abide by her Commander with whom she has sex. In both
stories, the message of feminism is very important for the reader. Hester is treated as a spectacle
who will make her more powerful, while in the Handmaid's Tale women are seen as objects merely,
"baby–making machines."
First, Hester's punishment could be compared to a spectacle. Indeed, after having committed
adultery in a Puritan society, the town government decides to punish Hester by exposing her on a
scaffold for several months and by making her wear the "A" letter on her breast to be able to identify
her as an adulterer. During this time, she faces endless mockeries and insults but she never gives up;
she grows stronger and doesn't let the town judgement affect her.

largely based on how the society dictates it to be. As Society changes its gender roles also change to

The Reason Behind this might be that there is no biology needed in Gay relationships. May stated

women would most likely become kind and gentle caretakers of the house due to their reproductive
roles. This is Cause due to which women are treated like weaker being in comparison to men. That's
why it feels very hard to follow the societal codes and cultural norms because they were made unfair
from the beginning.

Gender Differences Between Men And Women Essay
The "male norm" is an important concept for understanding women's history, gender history, and the
history of sexuality in classical Athens. Women and Gender in Early Modern Europe, explains the
importance of studying women, as well as studying gender. Historians studying gender "note that
what are usually described as the "biological" differences between men and women are themselves
influenced by ideas about gender, with a single polarity (man/woman) so strong in western culture
that individuals born with ambiguous genitalia are generally simply assigned to one category or
another (Wiesner 3)." Within this view, it ultimately predisposes sex rather than the other way
around, which means there is no such thing as true sex difference, only gender difference. Historians
have also contemplated what gender itself means and about how past societies have intended their
perceptions of what it means to be male or female. This allowed them to distinguish differences
between physical sex differences or biological differences between men and women, and how
gender has socially constructed differences. Studying the differences of gender allows us to
understand the history of the "male norm" in classical Athens. Intersectionality is another important
concept when studying the "male norm." The oxford dictionary defined Intersectionality as the
interconnected nature of social categorization such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a
given individual or group, regarded as creating

The Pros And Cons Of Single-Sex Education
Single–sex education is an old approach that continues to gain momentum in today's society. The
concept has existed in many private schools, but it is a new system of education for public schools.
Single–sex education advocates often cite learning differences as evidence for the benefits of
separating male and female students in the classroom. However, other experts suggest that
segregating by sex can increase gender stereotyping. Essentially, effective teaching depends on the
engagement and excitement of students regarding certain material. While it may be easier for
students at single–sex schools to participate in class and succeed academically, the real world is not
composed of one sex. Additionally, co–educational schools offer more diversity and a realistic social
ecosystem. However, students may become distracted by the opposite sex, hindering their academic
successes. "Single–sex education: the pros and cons" by Kristin Stanberry and "Research Spotlight
on Single–Gender Education" are two articles that pinpoint the advantages and disadvantages of
single–sex education. Ultimately, single–gender education is better than co–educational education
because teachers can use techniques geared towards a specific gender, the educational prospects for
girls and boys widen, and distractions are limited.

women are traditionally smaller than their male counterparts, they are inherently weaker. This
statement is echoed in the Bell Hooks essay when she says "clearly, the differentiation between

carrying with it the assumption that men should have greater authority than women, and should rule
over them" (bell hooks 20). The argument that women are hormonally unstable during their

Military Double Standards
Our military has been around for over 241 years, establishing its strength and developing itself to be

five branches (Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Coast Guard) as of October 1st, 2016

in history that our country has made. However, with women's roles in the combat being changed
they are required to pass all training with the same standards males have. This questions the service
and brings to a debate on why the double standards in place today still remain. With the exception of
females in combat meeting male requirements to qualify, I come to question the effects that these
double standards have on the U.S. military, both past and present, in regards to the military's
strength as a unit and the effects that they have on bringing together the members as one team
despite these differences inflicted by gender. Both men and women of the service have the

Women As The Weaker Sex And How Does This Affect Mrs. Wright?
Rebecca Denton
April 14, 2015
Question: How does Susan Glaspell show in her play Trifles men see women as the weaker sex and
how does this affect Mrs.Wright?
Thesis: In the dramatic play, 'Trifles', Glasbell uses irony and symbolism to show inequality in a
marriage and ever growing fragile mental state which played out to be their downfall.
Trifles
While demeaning women and belittling their concerns are seen by most as sexist today not very
many decades ago people accepted sexism and inequality as common and normal way of living.
Since the male–dominated society considered women's tasks less important and meaningful than
men's, men treated women with a lack of consideration and as if they were beneath them. In the turn
of the century play "Trifles," Glaspell challenges the suppression and inequality of women in effect
during her lifetime, basing the play on real stories. As stated "Well, women are only used to
worrying about trifles". In the dramatic play, 'Trifles', Glasbell uses irony and symbolism to show
inequality in a marriage and ever growing fragile mental state which played out to be their downfall.
Throughout the whole story, Glaspell uses symbolism to show the damaging effects of men's
stereotypes about women and how this can negatively affect any situation. The female characters in
this story, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters "...come in slowly, and stand close together near the door,"
displaying a hesitancy and respect to enter Mrs. Wright's empty home. In

Summary Of Women In A Train To Pakistan And The Breast Giver

  • 1. Summary Of Women In A Train To Pakistan And The Breast Giver According to Loomba "As national emblems, women are usually cast as mothers, or wives and are called upon to literally and figuratively reproduce the nation". Women play an essential role in the nation and colonialism Women characters are used to represent the colonized in both A train to Pakistan and The Breast Giver. Women are sex–objects and commodities in both texts. In a Train to Pakistan there are two female characters Nooran and Haseena. Females in the novel were described as weak. Hukum Chand says: "I know it all. Our Hindu women are like that. So pure that they would rather commit suicide than let a stranger touch them. We Hindus never raise our hands to strike women, but these Muslims have no respect for weaker sex. This quote shows that not only were women thought of as the weaker sex, but they were also being raped by the other community during partition. Though men were being killed women were being first being raped then killed and had their breasts cut off. We also see that in this novel there is a Patriarchal society. A patriarchy is when a male holds the power and control of property. Lala ram is an example of this he is the head of a Hindu family in Mano Majra. The women of the house have no power, we see this when the women informed the dacoits that 'I tell you Lalaji is not in. He has taken the keys with them. We have nothing in the house." Other examples are when Nooran goes unwillingly with her father instead of informing her father of her desire to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Sex And Gender Socialization : Sex Sex and Gender Socialization Sex as explained in "Essentials of Sociology: A Down–to–Earth Approach", is that sex is a biological characteristic that distinguishes females and males, consisting of primary and secondary sex characteristics (Henslin, 2015). Gender is the behaviors and attitudes that society has put into place for people to act their sex. Girls act like girls and boys act like boys. The sociological significance of gender is that it is a device by which society controls its member. Gender sorts us, on the basis of sex, into different life experience. Sex is a biological characteristic that distinguish females and males, consisting of primary and secondary sex characteristics. (Henslin, 2015, p. 292) Gender is defined the behaviors and attitudes that society has put into place for people to act their sex. Girls act like girls and boys act like boys. Little girls grow up being a princess, her father's calls her that on a regular basis. Princess is always watching mommy while trying to emulate her at the same time. Mommies put on make–up, mommies cook, washing dishes and be the caretaker for her family while remaining beautiful. Little boys grow watching their fathers and are told that one day they will be the head of their house too, and needed to learn how to take care of it. Little boys start assisting dad with cutting the lawn, helping his mother out by taking out the trash, washing the family car, also learn how to change a tire or fix a flat whether it's ... • 5. Analysis Of Lullabies For Little Criminals After analyzing Lullabies for little criminals in a feminist theory lens, it becomes clear that this novel is based on the portrayal of women In a male dominated society. Men are described as stronger or more important in the story than women are. Baby meets a lot of women in her 2 year life span in the novel, but they never make as much of an imprint in her life as the males do. She has no mother and so you think that she would be out looking for someone who can be a role model for her. Instead because of the way her society is built she is forced into something that the men think is normal, and that all the women seem to be doing. Her father albeit being a junkie has high hopes for his daughter and doesn 't want her to be seen as a "whore", yet even he can 't stop the pressure of society being put on her. Baby views the men in her life as more important or impactful than the women. She does meet many different women, but they all seem to be either old mothers or more predominantly rebels and prostitutes. She thinks of women as things that fascinate her, because she doesn 't understand them; even though she is a woman herself. It makes the reader wonder when there will be a decent female character In the story. What it really makes the reader feel when a new female is introduced is that they either, won 't stay long, they are prostitutes, she's a bad influence, or she is a bully. The portrayal of women in baby's life isn 't very significant(her mother is mentioned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Eve's Apology In Defense Of Women By Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum In "Eve's Apology in Defense of Women," an excerpt from Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum, Aemilia Lanyer uses biblical illusions such as the story of Eve eating the forbidden fruit, as well as satirical diction to convey a message of unjust attitudes toward the female gender. These attitudes express an imbalanced judgement of women in religious settings, a notion that would continue to be used not only when alluding to religion, but also in other everyday life events. Lanyer, however, uses this satirical language to argue that Eve is only to blame as much as the male characters in the story, Adam and Satan. Since being written in 1611, Salve Deus Rex Juadeorum has interested readers of all kinds due to its incredible use of feminist diction in several different poems and paragraphs, all of which are written by a young female author, Aemilia Lanyer. According to Subjectivity and Women's Poetry in Early Modern England by Lynette McGrath, Lanyer was trying to sway aristocratic dedicatees into a benevolent membership in a women's community by "poetically invoking the attractive and idealized discourses of maternity, religion and women's nurturing love for each other" (page 211). In "Eve's Apology in Defense of Women" the reader can recognize this heavy use of religious context to persuade her audience to grasp this idea of building a women's community via the unjust treatment reserved in the very first book of Genesis. The first line of the poem, which reads "Now Pontius Pilate is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Single Sex School Why Single Sex School? Single sex schools are the best way of education and vital for our children in order for them to be taught in an environment that is away from distractions and to be more successful, focused and emotionally stable. There are several reasons which shows that single sex schools are important and why it's the best way for good education. The first reason is that boys and girls are not equal and develop at different times and speeds; therefore they should be taught separately. Acording to Gilbert (2007), Aacademic planners and school superintendents in the 1960's had this foundamental assumption; they used to think that separate means unequal, so fearing that they would be unfair, provoking inequality and sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second reason why single sex schools are the way to go is that boys and girls distract each other from their education, especially in adolescence as their sexual and emotional sides develop. They spend too much time trying to impress or sexually harassing each other especially boys toward girls. Academic competition between the sexes is unhealthy and only adds to the unhappiness and anxiety among weaker students. As Trichia Kelleher, a school principle, argues "rather than girls defining themselves by their interests, they define themselves by what the boys think of them or what other girls think boys think of them". Furthermore, John Silber (2002), President of Boston University, declared that his university would prioritize male applications in order to even up the student composition and ensure the male population did not become 'ungentlemanly' towards women due to their numerical inferiority. John as a preident of Boston saw how females can be a sexual distraction towarad males in class rooms and tried to slove that by admitting more males to the university. A single–sex environment is therefore a space where (children) can learn without feeling pressurized by the other sex. As odd it may sound, some people argues that children need to be exposed to the opposite sex in preparation for later life; this fact should be further evaluated and analysed logically. Nobody in this world comes without parents, and as children we can get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Women 's Fight For Women Essay Women fight for opportunity to be equal held to the standards of men. Although, in military they do deserve the right to be frontline in combat women; people argue women should not. Many Americans feel women should not be on the frontline for battle. If women fight in battle the are at higher risk for physical injury. As a woman they are more likely to get pregnant and spend time away from battle because of children. Men feel like they can't share same bond with women as men because of the gender difference. However, others feel women are capable of accomplishing same goals as men. People believe if you are trained and work hard regardless of gender you can get the job done. In the article "Coed Combat Units" it is published with a strong message, and Owens makes decent assumptions throughout the article, which is a good argument for why women should not be positioned in combat or support positions. Mackubin Thomas Owens argues against the ideal of placing American women in combat or in support positions associated with direct ground combat in the article "Coed Combat Units" (Owens, 2013, pg. 348). He believes that there are significant differences between men and women. Females are about 5 inches shorter than men, have half the strength as a man and less muscle mass (Owens, 2013, pg.). A female body skeleton is lighter causing more strain on her body from carrying heavy loads than a man. Women become pregnant, as well as, after birth there are more problems causing them to ... • 13. The Boy and Girl Dilemma: Sex and Gender Dismantled Gender is one of the most basic forms of human communication and one of the most essential forms of expression in society, yet the concept of what gender actually is is greatly skewed, over– dramatized, and politicized. Almost every form of media, education, and/or entertainment rigorously enforces the ideals to which culture holds and views people of different genders. Most of this is done so by oppressing individuals who do not fall within the provided spectrum. Society finds a language of humor in transsexualism, intersexualism, homosexual expression, and other means of crossing the socially constructed boundaries of what the public deems gender 'is' and 'is not', and it poses groups of people as the punchline to a joke. Like many forms of oppression, this works to dehumanize and objectify as well as comically stereotype the people who fall into the category of 'queer' in their expression, therefore justifying passive ignorance in the public eye. The consequences of this autocratic 'gender/sex binary exclusive' mindset are deadly. The feminist movement, as well as the anti–feminist reaction, has sparked an incline in the study of gender, sex, sexuality, and the differences between what is considered 'male' and/or 'female'. To define the origin and legitimacy of gender, begin first by understanding 'biological sex', the binary (male vs female) in which our society as selected our cultures gender roles. • 15. The Coolidge Effect Essay PSY253 Assignment: Week1 Although Finkel et al. (2015)'s model distinguishing several relationship stages in familiarity and interpersonal attraction seemed quite reasonable and convincing, I hoped that they would have discussed a little bit more about the nature of sex differences in attraction to improve their model, especially when they mentioned the Coolidge effect while reviewing the surface contact paradigm. The Coolidge effect has been considered to be a very basic sex difference in eagerness and motivation to mate with new partners, or with multiple partners concurrently, which is widely shared across mammalian species. It can be highly adaptive for men to copulate and possibly impregnate multiple women because there is almost no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this sense, we could also think of other relationship stages which are categorized before and after having a sexual relationships or having offspring with the sexual/romantic partner (or corresponding events such as having married/cohabited). Moreover, we could also add a biological component to the model to consider what kinds of adaptive problems we face when choosing and assessing potential or existing partners. Both men and women should react to familiarity with their partners with the ultimate aim to attain whatever qualities they need to solve adaptive problems effectively. For instance, when people themselves are in the stage of choosing mates or friends, familiarity should be a prerequisite to assess their quality as a desirable mating or cooperative partner, so that familiarity should promote a form of attraction designed to gather more information. On the other hand, once people get enough information and decide to commit to a relationship with the target, such as they are in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Why Are Women Are Men And Women? Most mothers nowadays have the choice to stay at home and look after their children. Most girls nowadays have the right to go to school and learn. Most women nowadays are "equal" to men and can do most things men can, Or can they?... Are woman really equal to men?.... Firstly,This should not be seen as offensive, but to purely make a statement that men and women are still not equal, even in the 21st century, is unacceptable. Respect should be given to both sexes, and women should be given the same privileges men have and the same chances, vice–versa. Even though Men and women are seen as "equal" in the 21st century, in countries like south and west Asia that is not the case. 80% of out–of–school girls are likely to never attend school, however 16% of out–of–school boy are more likely to go to school. How would you feel if some you worked twice as hard as someone who got the last college place you were striving to get? Upset? Angry? Well, that how women are feel when men are getting paid 24% more than them for the same job. • 19. Rhetorical Analysis Of Plato 's Republic In Plato's Republic he has many examples of rhetoric. In regards to the controversial topic of women and eugenics in which Plato is almost forced into mentioning because of Adeimantus and Glaucon, he uses various rhetorical statements to portray his view on the matter. His readers believe women should be equal, so Plato attempts to persuade his readers into thinking he believes the same. For example, in the passage on women and family Plato states, "we shall assign these to each accordingly; but if the only difference apparent between them is that the female bears and the male begets, we shall not admit that this is the difference relevant for our purpose, but shall still maintain that our male and female Guardians ought to follow the same occupations" (164). He uses the women are equal and can do the same things as men strategy in order to make Athenian men understand what he is trying to say while still stroking their egos by using rhetoric. Men are in general are hard to persuade when it comes to power, so as a result Plato gives a sense of gender equality while at the same time still giving men the upper hand. Now let us take a look into the background of the story. Plato gives his ideals on a perfect society and everything it should include. He basically implies that justice is rightness, and rightness is whatever he feels it should be. He breaks society down into guardians, wage earners, and auxiliaries. Wage earners are people such as surgeons or shoemakers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Commodification in the music industry and society has been present for many years. However this ubiquitous injustice has only been highlighted more recently, due to more people speaking out about how wrong it is. I have chosen to write about this topic as I believe is it relevant to today's society of gender equality. My topic explores all the ideas surrounding my hypothesis of "To what extent has the Female body been commodified in the music industry, from the 1970's to present day?" Through the use of a questionnaire, my research and history timeline, I aim to link the environment of the music industry to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clark (2000) "Women, Gender, and Religion," talks about how the Ancient Greeks believe men and women were two different species. Men are the superior and women are the inferior. Clark says {"Greek medical writers differ in their ideas about male and female bodies. The Hippocratic school presented men and women as separate species (what we might call a "two sex" model),' whereas Aristotle considered women to be, 'Imperfect or defective men in what has been termed a 'one sex' model. Women lacked the firm control of bodily boundaries that men had. Women changed shape during pregnancy, and they leaked: blood, tears, and emotion. 'Since woman does not bound herself, she must be bounded.' This is achieved by organization of her space, prescription of her gestures, ordering of her rituals, imposition of headgear, attendants, and other trappings."} This describes women as a completely different and weak species, which have no control over who they are. Gerda Lerner identifies two different kinds of "history" on p. 4. What are they, and what are the defining characteristics of each? Be as specific as you can! One of the main points of The Creation of Patriarchy that she addresses, and even creates a new way of notating, is talking about "history" versus "History" with a capital H. She explains history (shown with a lowercase h) to be all events of the past, and contrastingly calls everything that is written and recorded History with a capital H. • 25. The Women 's Movement For Equality Throughout the course of history, women and young girls have been viewed as the weaker sex. Females did not, and at times still do not, receive the same level of respect or opportunities as men. Leading up to the 1960's, women's primary physical activities were cheerleading and dancing, while the men's were more geared towards football and basketball. The women's movement for equality was in the late 1960's, during which women finally began to have their voices heard by others. As a result of the powerful women's movement, the Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 was enacted by President Richard Nixon. Women were expected to be confined to the home in order to take care of the children and do the required chores, while the man of the house was granted the luxury of experiencing the world by working to provide for the family. "Women were long considered naturally weaker than men, squeamish, and unable to perform work requiring muscular or intellectual development. Due to the fact that women are already disadvantaged when it comes to education, a stride needs to be made when focusing on career education. • 29. Human Behavior And Sexual Relationships Essay In today's society, a lot of emphasis are put on the bodily appearance of an individual, specifically in relation to deciding on a mate. Additionally, people are very picky in relation to choosing mate. Human behavior is determined in large part by culture each human way of life has a unique set of norms, rituals, and taboos associated with selecting a mate. People also have a uniquely good sized potential to have interaction in sexual relationships for cultural motives with no intentions of reproduction. For a few human beings this may expand to participants of the identical sex. In this lab we examined the variations in desire of mate between ladies and men. We had been to determine which developments/values each men and women value the most when picking a someone special. Methods: For the first a part of this lab we examined which traits/developments had been critical to which gender. To do that, all the people in the lab where told to fill out a Human mate questioner. On the questioner, there was a listing of attributes: Friends Approve, Wealth, Academic Achievement, Ambition, Intelligence, Physique, Fashion Sense, Sense of Humor, Shared Values, Fidelity Commitment. The class were to rank the attributes from 1 which is the most critical to 10 which is the least critical. Everybody then turned in there results into the teacher who then calculated the averages. Though the World Wide Web has bridged the cultural gap some, it will never fully or accurately reveal the truth simply because it is difficult to fully understand cultural meanings from an outsider's perspective. Before the internet, careers in anthropology and similar fields made information available through ethnographic readings and studies. Amazons portrayed in Y are an extremist group of women who believe that the men died for a reason, and they intend to embrace the new freedom and control given to them by Mother Earth (Vaughan, 96). Subjugation that these women felt from their male counterpart was apparently detrimental to their lives. In "The Sworn Virgins of Albania", women decide to take on a male status for various reasons such as protection, avoiding an arranged marriage, and keeping the family name (Young, 253). With all men extinct, the sworn virgins would have no need to exist. According to "Different Words, Different Worlds", men's authority over women is seen through chivalrous acts such as opening a door. What they believe is in fact happening is that the man gives the woman permission to walk first, but he can easily take that consent away just the same, thus confirming he has the control (Tannen, 231). They have been held back and their opportunities were taken away just because of the fact that they were females. This led to the evolution of Feminist Movement. I believe that women have every right to be equal with men and Feminism is slowly accomplishing this. But, under the shade of Feminism, few women take undue advantage of their sex. A radical approach to Feminism is what is termed as Feminazism. A Feminazi is basically a person who uses the cause of Feminism for ill–jobs based on gender disputes. A Feminazi is a sexist person who believes in female dominance. Feminazi is a derogatory term used to describe either feminists who are perceived as extreme or radical or women who are perceived to seek superiority over men, rather than equality. The amount of sexisim female athletes have to face on a day to day basis proves that in 2017, we are still living in a very sexist and male dominated society. • 39. Persuasive Essay On The Lie The Lie All throughout history, human society has told lies. The lies may be intention or non– intention but everyone has told a lie at least once in their lifetime. We learn from an early age of toddler, that lying is bad. We grow older, and learn telling lies only leads to big issues. Teenagers may tell a lie to hide the truth from their parents, a parent may tell a lie to hide the truth from the child. Either way may it be with good intentions or not, lying is bad. The debate remains, why do we still lie even after knowing it is wrong? Stephanie Ericcson wrote, "All the 'isms'– racism, sexism, ageism, et al.– are founded on and fueled by the stereotype and the cliché, which are lies of exaggeration, omission, and ignorance. They are always dangerous. They take a single tree and make it a landscape." (Ericsson, 3). What did Stephanie mean by this statement? Are stereotypes and the cliché the root cause of the issues in society? Can society change these stereotypes thought process and clichés to advance to the next level? There are many different types of stereotypes and/or clichés, throughout society. The most obvious stereotypes relate to race and sex. These stereotypes have been going on for so long that the chain to unbreak them is hard. A prime example is the female or male. Females are said to be weaker physically and mentally but stronger emotionally. While males are said to be stronger physically and mentally but weaker emotionally. Many can analyze why this could be. May perhaps deals with our brain and what side of the brain we are using, while others may say environment effects it. Why others say may perhaps it's our chemical makeup to begin with. Individuals are just that individual's, no two people are the same including the anomy of twins. Even twins are two different individuals even having various of similarities. The impact of stereotyping and/or clichés are heavy. A female child, grows up thinking that girls are not supposed to be able to do this or that. They are supposed to be princesses and just look pretty. They could also hear repeating that girls are supposed to just make babies and their place is the kitchen. • 41. Biography Of Richard Dawkins 's ' Meme ' Richard Dawkins had a concept known as "meme". Cultural meme was developed as a way of sensationalizing the fact that genes aren't everything in the world of Darwinism. "A meme can be defined as unit of cultural inheritance which ties into the idea of the replicator the fundamental unit of Darwinism (Brockman, 1995, p. 80)." It can be a place to put fear for the unknown. Gender can be defined as expectations, relationships between, and behaviors fitting to women and men which steam from cultural shaped thoughts and behaviors. Gender is a way to organize the culture, it can be used to describe expected jobs, feelings, and behaviors based on the sex of the individual. In the readings about gender there were a lot of examples of memes. In the Introduction by Bem, she speaks about the history of the western culture and how there are three beliefs about women and men which have triumphed: that they have essentially different psychological and sexual nature, that men are inherently the dominant sex, and that both happen naturally. In regard to Bem's Lenses of Gender there are two lenses which would fit into the idea of memes. These lenses are: Lens of Androcentrism or male–centeredness, this is when men are treated as human and women are viewed as "other" and the Lens of Gender Polarization during which the male–female difference is overlaid on so many aspects of a society that a cultural linking is created between sex and almost every part of life. The Sexual Congress has no elitist mentality about what would occur from their procreation. They both had different ideas about how the sexual intercourse would occur. Socrates had the idea that only the guardians must be able to have sex, and the inferior people may have children, but they must be hidden. Especially in the case of a deformed offspring. In The Sexual Congress, men must first have sex with the ugliest 'broad' in order to be able to have sex with a beautiful, young, soft, and smooth girl. I believe that these two ideas collide. Socrates talks about how each gender may have their differences, but they are the same in nature. While The Sexual Congress does not touch on each gender and their differences. Also, Socrates talks about each gender and their functions in society. While Praxagora's law is only about sex and in which order it must occur in. The only big similarity with these laws is, about whom they can have sex with, and when they can have sex. Socrates believed that in a perfect city the guardians must procreate in order to have the best possible offspring. But, the sexual intercourse must take part at a certain time of year, and the guardians may only have sexual intercourse during that set time period. These guardians must also be in their prime. The Negative Effects Of Gender Roles To put it in simpler terms, gender roles are basically a generalization that is made about the roles or behavior that is deemed appropriate based on gender. CNN releases an article by Emanuella Grinberg and Victoria Larned on September 20, 2017 that discusses how gender roles directly affect both boys and girls in their childhood and adolescence. The authors provide examples of generalizations made about both males and females. Study was made that concentrated on the health inequities that stemmed from gender roles. The digital news writers suggest that enforcing gender roles can lead individuals to feel the need to conform, to have low self–esteem, and fear ostracism. It is proposed that children and teens should be advised about sex, relationships, and identity at an earlier age to reduce the impact made from enforcing these gender stereotypes. Based on the research and study, efforts should be made to reduce the negative effects of gender roles on society. Keywords: stereotypes, gender roles, generalizations Many have conducted research and studies on the idea of the gender roles, and center their focus on the evolutionary aspect, how boys differ from girls, or how people are greatly influenced by them. According to a 2012 BBC article, women's involvement in combat zones has increased due to indistinct battle lines during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, in which "it has become less and less possible to keep women out of combat conditions," has resulted in a loosening of limitations for women serving in the US military. While women are not yet allowed to serve in frontline combat, the eased limits have increased their opportunities for both occupational advancement and proving their worth in combat positions. Additionally, once a soldier has received suitable training, and meets the requirements for frontline duty, any combatant should, ideally, do what he or she was trained for, despite his or her sex. Clearly then, whoever chooses to, or is chosen to be on frontlines has likely steeled their emotions allowing for appropriate functional performance. Opponents to women in combat contend females require supplementary accommodations based on sex distinctions, such as menstrual cycles, pregnancies, and restroom accommodations, and as such, women will disrupt the efficacy of the military unit. In the earlier years of law enforcement sex crimes failed to get the attention they garnered, the investigations many time were shabby and many times officers felt like the victim got what they deserved by dress, action or history. It is now know that each victim is different and everyone will have a different way that they will deal or respond to this type of crime. This is why most departments have specialized sex crime units that deal specifically with this type of crime. They are specifically trained to deal not only with the crime scene portion, the victim's body as a crime scene but the victim themselves and the emotional side. • 55. Asexual And Sexual Evolution Similarities The main difference between asexual and sexual evolution is the process in which new individuals are created. With asexual organisms reproduction involves creating an exact copy of the parent often by itself. Sexual reproduction, on the other hand, involves meiosis and the fusion of an egg and sperm from two separate parents in order to create a new, unique individual. This causes vast differences in the evolution of each. The most prominent disadvantage of sexual evolution is the fact that two individuals of opposite sex are required to reproduce as this makes the process much slower in rate and causes vast challenges from the environment due to limited resources and parents. Asexual reproduction, however, has the ability to duplicate alone and has a extremely fast and effective rate of reproduction. The disadvantages that come with this are major as a single, harmful mutation can be passed through an entire family tree through copying errors with little to no variation. "Muller's Ratchet" theory explains how damaging mutations in an asexual species will eventually cause the population to become extinct while a sexual species will overcome this as its offspring have variation which could keep a gene free of the harmful mutations through evolution. This variation is the main reason sexual reproduction has evolved so vastly and effectively. The first bilateral flatworms had huge impact on many future animal designs and sex strategies because they were one of the first species to branch off starting the tree of bilateral species on earth making them bilaterians earliest ancestor. This is important to understanding how and why many bilateral animals have evolved to what they are today. The most important aspect about the flatworms innovative design is the placement of the brain and eyes connected by a central nervous system. The purpose of having its brain and eyes at the head of the body makes it very effective for tracking and hunting prey and resources. This innovative structure created a new body plan that many predators and prey would come to follow in evolution. In contrast, the terms sex and gender have always been interdependent terms but have distinct meanings. Sex is male and female while gender is masculine and feminine. In essence, sex refers to the biological differences and hormonal profiles. For example females have boobs and males do not. In the other hand, gender describes the characteristics that a society or culture present as masculine or feminine. For example, the color blue is for boys and pink is for girls which not has always been the case. The article from the publication Earnshaw 's Infants ' Department "The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl". Jayme Poisson, a journalist, in her article Parents Keep Child 's Gender Secret she describes a family who has decided to raise their child named Storm without revealing their gender, in order for Storm to feel free to ... • 63. Social Justice In A Socially Unjust World CNN, Fox News, USA Today. These mainstream outlets are popular for a reason. As a convenience for American citizens, to have news literally projected on television is a luxury. Not just any sort of news – a wide variety of topics such as politics, entertainment, economics and sports are projected twenty four hours per day, seven days a week. According to the Pew Research Center, writers Kenneth Olmstead, Mark Jurkowitz, Amy Mitchell and Jodi Edna report that, "Almost three out of four U.S adults (71%) watch local and network television news ... on average, the cable news audience devotes twice as much time to that news source as local and network news"(Olmstead et al). In other words, not only do the majority of Americans spend time watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In "Capabilities as Fundamental Entitlements", American philosopher Martha Nussbaum explains why women do not dispute these claims saying "...women frequently exhibit 'adaptive preferences', preferences that have adjusted to their second–class status"(Nussbaum 34). Because women show 'adaptive preferences' , they are content being on lower footing than their male counterpart; society assumes a blind eye and incepts gender constructions that women are submissive and prefer being passive caretakers whereas men dominate and are regarded as active money makers. Moreover, Nussbaum claims that "Women's current preferences often show distortions that are the result of unjust background conditions. And agency and freedom are particularly important goals for women, who have so often been treated as passive dependents"(Nussbaum 34). In a way, Nussbaum is acknowledging the gender construction set up by civilization. Due to the lack of enthusiasm to be in an equilibrium as men, women ultimately get ' the short end of the stick'. Due to passivity, they assume positions with less labor, such as being the main caregiver to children, and claim to be the docile weaker sex. Not because of biology, but because of failing to claim that they want to be equal. This dilemma of not owning up to equality, is displayed in media, particularly in the news. This ... • 65. Feminism In The Handmaid's Tale And The Scarlet Letter According to the dictionary, "feminism" is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. Many stories have been written to denounce the difference between the two sexes. Indeed, one of the main themes of both the The Handmaid's Tale and The Scarlet Letter is feminism. The Scarlet Letter was a book written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1850 and it tells the story of a woman, Hester Prynne, who committed adultery while she was married to a man named Chillingworth. Adultery frowned upon by the Puritans and was harshly punished. On the other hand, The Handmaid's Tale, the other book is about a dystopian future with the Republic of Gilead. Women are very restricted and have to abide by her Commander with whom she has sex. In both stories, the message of feminism is very important for the reader. Hester is treated as a spectacle who will make her more powerful, while in the Handmaid's Tale women are seen as objects merely, "baby–making machines." First, Hester's punishment could be compared to a spectacle. Indeed, after having committed adultery in a Puritan society, the town government decides to punish Hester by exposing her on a scaffold for several months and by making her wear the "A" letter on her breast to be able to identify her as an adulterer. During this time, she faces endless mockeries and insults but she never gives up; she grows stronger and doesn't let the town judgement affect her. Moreover, women in a Puritan society were supposed to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. The Importance Of Gender Roles Gender Roles In today's world are different patterns of behaviors, mannerism, interests, personality traits and attitudes that are regarded as either male or female by one's culture. Gender Roles now are largely based on how the society dictates it to be. As Society changes its gender roles also change to meet its needs. Gender roles might also be based on how one was raised from his/her childhood to adulthood. Many Research studies show that both genetics and environment influence the development of gender roles. Male and female gender constructs cultural beliefs that dictate there are two biological sexes male and female in common point of view. However, I think that both the genders (male and female) are running on societal needs rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Reason Behind this might be that there is no biology needed in Gay relationships. May stated that "Despite sexual orientation, some people simply demonstrate more masculine qualities or more feminine qualities......Neither sexual preference in the bedroom nor our daily characteristics have any effect on that biology". (May–719) May wants to state Gay relationships there is no biological determinant necessary because the individuals in the relationship are both boys or girls and so however they don't have to follow any of the social codes or the cultural norms. Although in the context to Eckert When The parents come to know of their baby's sex biology becomes the baby's destiny and, therefore, women and men/ male or female babies get their certain unalterable roles in society. For Example, the men would become the protectors and financial providers of the house and women would most likely become kind and gentle caretakers of the house due to their reproductive roles. This is Cause due to which women are treated like weaker being in comparison to men. That's why it feels very hard to follow the societal codes and cultural norms because they were made unfair from the beginning. Secondly, I would like to point out Culture as a gender role determinant. As concluded before that biology is the destiny in terms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Gender Differences Between Men And Women Essay The "male norm" is an important concept for understanding women's history, gender history, and the history of sexuality in classical Athens. Women and Gender in Early Modern Europe, explains the importance of studying women, as well as studying gender. Historians studying gender "note that what are usually described as the "biological" differences between men and women are themselves influenced by ideas about gender, with a single polarity (man/woman) so strong in western culture that individuals born with ambiguous genitalia are generally simply assigned to one category or another (Wiesner 3)." Within this view, it ultimately predisposes sex rather than the other way around, which means there is no such thing as true sex difference, only gender difference. Historians have also contemplated what gender itself means and about how past societies have intended their perceptions of what it means to be male or female. This allowed them to distinguish differences between physical sex differences or biological differences between men and women, and how gender has socially constructed differences. Studying the differences of gender allows us to understand the history of the "male norm" in classical Athens. Intersectionality is another important concept when studying the "male norm." The oxford dictionary defined Intersectionality as the interconnected nature of social categorization such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating ... • 71. The Pros And Cons Of Single-Sex Education Single–sex education is an old approach that continues to gain momentum in today's society. The concept has existed in many private schools, but it is a new system of education for public schools. Single–sex education advocates often cite learning differences as evidence for the benefits of separating male and female students in the classroom. However, other experts suggest that segregating by sex can increase gender stereotyping. Essentially, effective teaching depends on the engagement and excitement of students regarding certain material. While it may be easier for students at single–sex schools to participate in class and succeed academically, the real world is not composed of one sex. Additionally, co–educational schools offer more diversity and a realistic social ecosystem. However, students may become distracted by the opposite sex, hindering their academic successes. "Single–sex education: the pros and cons" by Kristin Stanberry and "Research Spotlight on Single–Gender Education" are two articles that pinpoint the advantages and disadvantages of single–sex education. Ultimately, single–gender education is better than co–educational education because teachers can use techniques geared towards a specific gender, the educational prospects for girls and boys widen, and distractions are limited. Firstly, single–gender education is better than co–educational education because teachers are able to use techniques geared towards a specific gender. Recent research certainly ... • 73. Complaints And Disorders By Barbara Ehrenreich Summary Complaints and Disorders by Barbara Ehrenreich. Therefore, the argument can be made that because women are traditionally smaller than their male counterparts, they are inherently weaker. This statement is echoed in the Bell Hooks essay when she says "clearly, the differentiation between strong and weak, powerful and the powerless, has been a central defining aspect of gender globally, carrying with it the assumption that men should have greater authority than women, and should rule over them" (bell hooks 20). The argument that women are hormonally unstable during their menstruation period has also been used to discount women and create the idea that they are ill fit for roles in politics or other leadership positions. Historically, this was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Military Double Standards Our military has been around for over 241 years, establishing its strength and developing itself to be one of the strongest, most potent, and patriotic military's of the world. Our military, consisting of the five branches (Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Coast Guard) as of October 1st, 2016 opened all military occupational specialties (MOS) to females. This may be one of the largest leaps in history that our country has made. However, with women's roles in the combat being changed they are required to pass all training with the same standards males have. This questions the service and brings to a debate on why the double standards in place today still remain. With the exception of females in combat meeting male requirements to qualify, I come to question the effects that these double standards have on the U.S. military, both past and present, in regards to the military's strength as a unit and the effects that they have on bringing together the members as one team despite these differences inflicted by gender. Both men and women of the service have the possibility to stand alongside one another while representing the same face–value and quality as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 77. Women As The Weaker Sex And How Does This Affect Mrs. Wright? Rebecca Denton April 14, 2015 Question: How does Susan Glaspell show in her play Trifles men see women as the weaker sex and how does this affect Mrs.Wright? Thesis: In the dramatic play, 'Trifles', Glasbell uses irony and symbolism to show inequality in a marriage and ever growing fragile mental state which played out to be their downfall. Trifles While demeaning women and belittling their concerns are seen by most as sexist today not very many decades ago people accepted sexism and inequality as common and normal way of living. Since the male–dominated society considered women's tasks less important and meaningful than men's, men treated women with a lack of consideration and as if they were beneath them. In the turn of the century play "Trifles," Glaspell challenges the suppression and inequality of women in effect during her lifetime, basing the play on real stories. As stated "Well, women are only used to worrying about trifles". In the dramatic play, 'Trifles', Glasbell uses irony and symbolism to show inequality in a marriage and ever growing fragile mental state which played out to be their downfall. Throughout the whole story, Glaspell uses symbolism to show the damaging effects of men's stereotypes about women and how this can negatively affect any situation. The female characters in this story, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters "...come in slowly, and stand close together near the door," displaying a hesitancy and respect to enter Mrs. Wright's empty home.
