Distinguish between gated and ungated ion channels. Solution Ion channels are gaps though which ions can pass across the membrane. There is no binding between the ion channels and the ions passing through the channel. They control the flow of ions across the membrane and are present in membranes of all cells in all organisms. Some ion channels are open all the time and are hence called as ungated ion channels. The ion channels which open and close to pass the ions are called as gated ion channels. K+ and Cl- ungated ion channels are present in cells Na+ and Ca++ do not have ungated ion channels and only move through gated ion channels. The gated ion channels may be.
