20 Time Research Paper
20 Time Reflection
During the eight weeks we had to do our 20 Time projects, I chose to do a study on World Hunger.
When deciding what to spend my eight weeks doing, I knew I wanted it to do with a problem in the
world today. I've always felt really passionate towards things that currently happen in our world
because not only do they affect me but my neighbors, friends and community as well. Though it is
saddening, trying to narrow it down to one world problem was difficult. I was surprised to find that
more than 10,000 world problems are in the world today and they continue to grow every minute.
As soon as I came along the possibility of learning about hunger I knew it was what I wanted to do.
I was drawn to it immediately and I wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My heart ached for these kids that died every day. At times I found the fiery passion I once had
dying because with each new fact, came a part of me that thought things were never going to
change. It seemed the more I knew about hunger, the more hopeless I felt. I think serving is what
kept me going. It reminded me that change isn't an overnight process. That things will get better but
we have to always keep hope. As I saw the faces of those children who were getting a real meal for
the first time all week, it showed me that to think we couldn't make a difference was a foolish

The Impact Of Technology In Foreign AffairsBy Alison Lurie
In today's changing world, technology has influenced most everyone. In this new age, many
different opinions and controversies have arose. Foreign Affairs, a novel by Alison Lurie, uses
fictional characters and events to create ideas, illustrated in the novel, that compel the reader to think
about common societal issues and their causes. Foreign Affairs uses characters' ideas on tourism and
places emphasis on societal norms and the characters' opinions of them as a catalyst to nudge the
reader into this thought about common issues in society. Virginia (Vinnie) Miner, an advanced
professor at Corinth University in the novel, illustrates societal behaviors and their impact on her.
Fred Turner, another professor at Corinth University in the novel, discusses tourism and his opinions
of it with friends in London, England. Plato's "Allegory of the Cave", "Comic" by Scott McCloud,
and Adam Gopnik's article "Stones and Bones" can be used as lenses to view Foreign Affairs. When
using McCloud's lens, the emphasis on societal behaviors and tourism in Foreign Affairs, acts as a
vehicle for cogitation on the reader's part about the actual and representational and their roles in the
world today. Plato's lens, when applied to Foreign Affairs, leads the reader to consider the effects of
people living in a representational world as opposed to living in the actual world. Gopnik's lens
addresses aspects of tourism that lack the actual culture and emotion behind an event or place,
leading to a

Distinguishing the Difference in News Coverage among...
Distinguishing the Difference in News Coverage among International and Domestic Images Not
Included Identifying a Variance in News Coverage It became evident throughout our investigation
that separating domestic news source sites from international news source sites would be beneficial
in addressing our question of the variance in coverage among these news sources when identifying
natural disasters throughout the world. With the objective of properly addressing this inquiry, we
decided upon a proposition in order to accurately identify whether a difference in news source
coverage truly exists. Therefore, we propose that world reports provide more specifications about
international involvement in natural disasters rather than reports ... Show more content on

Although the lack of articles was difficult to project, having more stories per news source would
prove to be increasingly beneficial when making statements regarding the objectives of each site.
Nevertheless, it is important to wisely use the stories we have in order to accurately make
distinctions between sources; therefore, it is imperative to discuss the role of geography and pictures
presented in the articles. A Geographic Input Because the objective of this project is to identify
differences and similarities between world news sources and domestic news sources with the given
tags, discussing the role of geography will be useful in order to understand what the differences and
similarities mean. The attached chart (at the bottom of this section) attentively illustrates what
region(s) of the world each news source focuses on. One obvious pattern is the amount of articles
CNN and CNN World have. Therefore, why is this pattern apparent? This pattern can possibly be
due to the fact that there is a quicker turnover with articles on CNN, or because CNN has an
objective of covering an array of stories in many different regions. Nevertheless, the larger number
of CNN and CNN World articles is helpful for comparing the news sources to one another. As well,
the current issue of the flooding and destruction in Indonesia

A Comparative Analysis Of Bill Mckibben's Waste Not, Want Not
A Comparative Analysis of Bill McKibben's "Waste Not, Want Not" and Derrick Jensen's "Forget
Shorter Showers"
Our world is wasting valuable resources left and right, as addressed in both essays "Waste Not, Want
Not"" by Bill McKibbens, and "Forget Shorter Showers" by Derrick Jensen. In "Waste Not, Want
Not"" Bill McKibbens focuses on the importance of preserving our recourses. He mentions how
wasteful the human race is, and how un–necessary all of the things that cause waste really are. In
"Forget Shorter Showers" Derrick Jensen leans more towards the idea that no matter what humans
do, they are incapable of wining. Either they lose their opportunity for economical and intellectual
growth, or they lose their precious recourses and clean world. Both writers realize that we are
wasting recourses, and believe that change is necessary for advancement. While the writers may
have similar views, they have different ideas on how to solve the issue, and use different methods of
communicating their ideas.
Both writers believe that the world is being overly wasteful. There are many different recycling and
nature preserving programs in the world today, but when it comes down to it, too many humans do
not care about their world. They would rather live in an advance life with cars, electricity, bottled
water, air conditioning, factories, long showers, and shopping bags. In "Waste Not What Not" Bill
McKibben brings up the interesting point that it's "Not just waste, but wasteful"

Summary Of Rules For Radicals By Saul David Alinsky
In the world today, there are many problems that each and everyone of us face. These issues can
arrange from small to big depending on a person's opinion or status. Along with having issues they
can affect people in different ways too. There are many problems around the world, but specifically
in the United States there is a lot going on. In the book or playbook, Rules for Radicals by Saul
David Alinsky describes different disruptive tactics to help/better less fortunate people against the
system. Before reading this book I did not have an idea about what radicals were, but only that they
were used in math. The reason why I chose this book to read was because a recent co–worker of
mine had told me about the book. I was interested in reading ... Show more content on

The first one he describes is Power, which he states that using combinations of words dilutes the
meaning. Alinsky states that power's meaning is ""ability, whether physical, mental, or moral, to
act," has become an evil word, with overtones and undertones that suggest the sinister, the
unhealthy, the Machiavellian" (p. 63). I believe this is very true and a strong statement. The next
word that is talked about is Self–interest, similar to power alinsky says. That both of these words
have a "black shroud of negativism and suspicion". There are two more words talked about
compromise and conflict, which he also describes. The following chapter talks about "The
Education of an Organizer". Alinsky talks about how they need to find what creates the organizer.
After the chapter of organizer's, there is a chapter about communications. Alinsky states a really
interesting point, that someone can lack any of the qualities of an organizer. Although there is one
exception which is the art of communication. The next chapter/step for a radical is to be accepted by
people to be an organizer. Alinsky goes into further detail on what is the different ways to get the
acceptance from people. Finally we get into the juicy part of the playbook, which is where the
tactics come into play. There are a total of thirteen rules that to be able to be successful in being a
radical. The rules are: first rule is to

In Alisa Miller's presentation, How the News Distorts Our Worldview, she enlightens the audience
on how, as Americans we are only educated on an extremely small percentage of what is happening
in the world today. The context of this speech is important because before the speech is even shown,
one of the first sentences seen on the Ted Talk website is how Miller is the Ceo of Public Radio

amongst the masses. Miller's speech is given in Monterey, California in February 2008, which is

listeners on what is going on in the world with factual evidence to support her claims and she does
just that. Her audience is mixed of all genders and age groups because this speech is directed

society we focus on things that aren't important and how we downplay events that are significant

Devolution and Survival in The Remember and The Curious...
As the world turns around and around, our knowledge increases. Everyday that passes by is one lost
to the overflow of information in our unending world. Soon, all that we will have left will be an
innumerous amount of useless information. We might be understanding how our world works, but
does it cost us? As we focus on the way our world works, we lose contact with the things that matter
the most. We start focusing on how to survive in our world that we forget to live it. In literary works,
The Rememberer and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, both authors demonstrate the
consequences of losing focus on what truly matters in life. Each main character follows a simply

and Ben are unable to love each other due to the fact that they are constantly over thinking. Ben
understands how the world is losing focus and he attempts to stop the world's devolution.
Benjamin's society is also devolving. Everyone Benjamin meets is afraid of old age and dying. Each
person is living a false life where they are acting more like animals rather then humans. Until each
person meets Benjamin, they have not lived a full life. Elizabeth Abbott gave up on her dream and

Benjamin's father hates himself for giving up Benjamin. Captain Mike has a dream of being a true
artist. Each person's internal conflict is leading to their devolution, until Benjamin comes and saves

What Does Piggy's Glasses Symbolize In Lord Of The Flies
The world most people want is one that is fair, kind and has no conflict. In reality, that isn't the case
and while a lot of people want that kind of world, it is out of reach. Conflict today has become
almost normal, and that's the most tragic and disheartening aspect of the human race and the world
we live in today. Throughout Lord of The Flies by William Golding, Piggy is the most sane child.
Piggy and his glasses represent the world we wish we could have, a world where you don't see news
stories about school shootings and violence in foreign countries.
The boys represent the world that we live in today, and this is proven in the choices they choose to
make. In a way it was almost like opening up pandora's box when the boys first got stranded on the
island. From the start, Piggy's glasses are a notable symbol. When the boys first get off the plane
they attempt to start a civilized society, but the moment Piggy's glasses were broken by Jack when
he "smacked Piggy's head" (Golding 71). The boys began a deep, dark descent into losing their
humanity. By the end of the book it is proven that the boys have lost all human in them when Piggy,

Essay On Malala Yousafzai
Imagine yourself sitting on a school bus, and then suddenly two men stop your bus. One talks to the
driver, the other starts to walking towards you. He calls your name. You have no idea who this man
is or what he wants. Everybody on the bus looks at you and says nothing. Some look frightened,
some look sympathetic, and some just hold a blank face. The man looks at you then BANG! BANG!
BANG he fires his pistol three times. One bullet finds your neck while others find your head. Then,
suddenly all you see is darkness. This was Malala Yousafzai's reality, two years ago... Malala,

trait about Malala, her belief. She speaks out about her belief even though she has suffered from
speaking out in her past. Her spiritual beliefs of women's and children's rights affect people in many
ways. Some people may want to try and make a change locally or globally. And some people might
just want to do nothing to spread and help this awareness. Her gift of belief spreads all around the
world and especially to her homeland Pakistan. She has lived more than those have lived in decades.
With all that experience she makes herself and her words said about her belief 100x more powerful.
Her belief itself is extremely powerful. To be able to aid in women's and children's education and
improve it seemed like a very impossible feat but now she's making it happen. People could wish for
it to happen, people could say they could make it happen but only 1 woman so far has crossed all the

Spread Of American Culture Essay
The world today is continuing to evolve on a daily basis, and that is one thing we can count on it
doing. It started evolving from the beginning and will continue to the end of time. The biggest part
of evolution is the way our culture has changed over thousands of years. Now, my description of
how the world is going to look in 100 years is probably the same as most people my age. Everything
will be electronic.
The word "Hellenism" refers to the spread of Greek culture after the conquest of Alexander the
Great in the 4th century. If you look around not only America, but most countries, you will see that
we are made up of so many different cultures. In fact, most of what we would consider part of the
American culture, comes from another culture. We have become a "diverse community."

Gerontion By Frank Bidart Analysis
In the poems Frank Bidart "If See No End Is" and T.S. Eliot' "Gerontion" there are plenty of
comparable aspects between the two pieces of work. The relationship between the tone of each
poem is very similar. In Eliot's paper the tone is set by the main character in, in this case an old man.
Similarly, in Bidart's poem there is a main character that set the tone of the story by the way they
express it. Specifically, in both poems the tone is shown in the pessimistic view of both characters of
their respective poems. The old man in "Gerontion" is pessimistic because of how the world around
him is and how people are losing their religion. Likewise, in "If See No End Is" the character is
pessimistic because of what he perceives the world to be, because of his negative outlook on like
because of him being a victim of being bullied. The second aspect of each poem that is similar is the
plot of each poem and its meaning. The meaning behind Bidart poem is of a sixth grader whose
outlook on the world is distorted because of the world that he knows. His bullied life makes him
believe that the world no matter where you live all looks different, but in the end life is still the
same. Likewise, in Eliot's poem the character talks about how his life and how the world is changing

The Song Analysis Of 'Where Is The Love'
The song "Where Is The Love" by the Black Eyed Peas is a very heartfelt prayer for the healing and
suffering in the world and society that we live in. I feel like the song is about exactly what the title is
asking. Where is the love? Sometimes we have to stop, look around us and think about the
relationships we have with other people. Are our relationships built on foundations of true love,
compassion and kindness? Although the songs was originally released in 2003, most of the issues
the song focuses on are still relevant today, in 2017. Which really makes me wonder, where IS the
love? Surely after 14 years, things would have changed. Hate and war have existed since the
beginning of humanity. Crime is an enormous part of our society, in the past and in the present.
Imagine a world that is crime free, the perfect utopia. A world where everyone accepts their
neighbour for the person they truly are, without racism, without judgement, without oppression.
"Where is the love?" recognizes chaos in a broken world, intoxicated with violence and hate.
The song opens with the lyrics, "What's wrong with the world Mama, people livin like they ain't got
no Mama, I think the whole world's addicted to Drama, only attracted to the things that will bring
them trauma" For me the lyric about "No Mama" The people of today's society don't know how to
behave properly. We lack knowledge and understanding of the world. We don't pay attention to
anyone but ourselves. We don't know right from wrong. We are completely oblivious to what this
world is turning into and all we are doing are things that hurt ourselves and others. This lyric about
having "No Mama" saddens me as there are a lot of people out there in this world who do not have a
mother to guide them on the right path. We need a mother figure in our life because having a mother
teaches us basic life lessons that allow us to survive and be a good person. Such as to always say
please and thank–you, respect people, be kind and love your neighbour. I can not relate to not
having a mother figure in my life as I have had the same amazing mother my whole life. She has
taught me from the moment I was born, to treat everyone equally, be kind, and respect and love
everyone. To this

Going Solo Roald Dahl Analysis
Going Solo, Roald Dahl's memoir of his work in East Africa and his service in the RAF, covers the
buildup to World War II and his involvement in it. In his book he mentions the BBC (The British
Broadcasting Corporation) and their screenings during World War II. The British Broadcasting
Corporation plays a large role in the memoir as it illegally broadcasts information to assist the Allied
forces during World War II. Dahl stats, "They will tell us on the wireless from England"(54). In fact,
the BBC is important for screening valuable data across the world. In distinction from being the
most wide–used televised services; the British Broadcasting Corporation goes down in history for
coming to aid during World War II. From World War II to today, the BBC is broadcasting
information across the globe.
In the early 20th century, the BBC didn't follow the small steps of the other televised services. The
British Broadcasting Corporation made its own path during its gradual progress throughout the 20th
century. "The British Broadcasting company started life in 1922...However by 1922, public opinion,
as well as the spectacular growth and popularity of radio.... Thus, the BBC was born," the BBC says.

makes a transition from a boy who looks at life through the lens of a bully victim. Later, the emotion

Essay on Sir John Reith
Sir John Reith Sir John Reith was the first Director General of the BBC, and he had particularly
strong views on broadcasting as having a cultural and moral responsibility as a means of educating
and informing the masses. He once famously stated –
'It is occasionally indicated to us that we are apparently setting out to give the public what we think
they need– and not what they want – but few know what they want and very few what they need. In
any case it is better to overestimate the mentality of the public than to underestimate it. He who

The idea of the BBC as a public service meant that the provision should be public goods rather than
a private commodity (Curran, 2000). The funding of the service was based upon the license fee and
their agreement with parliament, and this was decided when it was felt that advertising could limit
the number of programmes they would be able to broadcast. They maintained the view that 'our
responsibility is to carry into the greatest possible number of homes, everything that is best in every
department of human knowledge, endeavour, or achievement' (cited in Smith, 1998).
That the BBC kept a firm degree of independence from the government was always at the forefront
of Reith's aims, and the fact that it also gained a reputation for its impartiality meant that it came to
be, and to some extent, still is a respected institution throughout the world. Nowadays, the BBC still
pride themselves on being 'free of commercial interests and political bias' (2002).
During his reign on the BBC throne, Reith came under much criticism on his views of
overestimating the mentality of the public, and providing a service that contained the matters that he
thought should be most important to society. He was often accused of being elitist in his approach to
programming policy. Many of the working class began to feel alienated by the

Patriotic Ads : How We Make Decisions
Laura Cruea Mrs. Gilliland English 1201 October 24, 2016 Patriotic Ads: How We Make Decisions
Did you know that patriotic ads or notions influence how we think? It can also positively influence
the way we make a purchase or make us think of a product in a different light. It can also persuade
us in making decisions based on what we feel is the best patriotic decision. It is usually at its peak
during election time when everyone is watching and waiting to see who will lead our country for the
next 4 years. When the country is divided by who they feel will be our best patriotic leader and what
they stand for. It also peaks at times of historical tragedies, such as 9/11 or the ongoing war in
Afghanistan. This is the time when businesses use this to their benefit. Anytime something affects
our country in a major way, it is time for businesses to "cash in" by using patriotic symbols or
sayings to persuade us to buy their product over someone else 's. It is our patriotic duty to support
them as they support our country, is sometimes the underlying message. It is also a way to "sway"
our thinking to one way or another based on the experience we have from watching or listening to
an advertisement. In today 's world, compared to a few years ago, we have more ways to get
patriotic messages to consumers all over the world. We have social media that can allow businesses
to advertise to the masses. In days past, you had the local newspaper with a targeted audience of that

Globalization Will Prevail Over Localization Essay

nation is becoming more integrated everyday. The question is are we benefiting or are we getting
hurt from this integration? In this paper I will try to weigh the costs and benefits of both
Globalization and Localization. Opinions vary greatly concerning this subject. Depending on what
part of the world you are from and what your economic standings are you may have an entirely

It is great for the whole world to be so integrated. An enormous amount of information is available
to anyone at anytime as long as they have the proper means of attaining it. Investments and other
exchanges can be switched to the country with the best investment options. Trade becomes quicker
therefore making the economy more effective and efficient. " In the 1990?s alone foreign investors
have poured 1 trillion into developing economies. It is raising living standards in some countries
faster than ever thought. It is increasing the number of job opportunities; it has decreased the
number of people in poverty, and has enhanced capital and information as well as the free flow of
trade. With all this free trade comes a lack of security. With so many nations integrated and so much
openness there is really no way to stop major business transactions from occurring on the Internet.
Singapore Foreign Minister Shanmugan Jayakumar said," we need to promote higher standard of

lessen government interference in market decisions." "In this pursuit of higher living standards, we

Soul Surfer Research Paper
Soul surfer is a true story of faith, family and Bethany's fight to get back to surfing. Even the loss of
her arm does not stop her from getting back on her surfboard. It is a story of Bethany's
determination and perseverance and a tale of her strong faith and courage. This story has been very
inspiring to me. I first saw the movie "Soul Surfer" last year and was very happy when I discovered
that we were reading it as part of our novel study this year. The story is about Bethany Hamilton
who was out surfing with her best friend Alana, when her arm got bitten off by a shark. Inspite of
this tragedy Bethany was determined not to give up on life and was soon surfing again with help
from her family and friends. Bethany never lost her faith in

Essay about BBC's Current Marketing Plan
BBC's Current Marketing Plan
The BBC's current marketing plan focuses on a number of specific areas, where the BBC hopes to
achieve a variety of objectives that will improve the corporation's image, in this country as well as
abroad.
The BBC plans to increase the range and quality of its radio and television services. More high
impact broadcasting is being focused on. More memorable programmes are being developed and
created, in particular arts and current affairs. The BBC plans to build up and solidify its digital
service, providing something for everyone on this service. Interactive learning activities are

Children, young people, young adults, adults and older people would potentially have to be catered
for. These different groups in themselves would also have various tastes. It would have to be
determined what the viewers would want to see most then the next most wanted programmes and so
on.
The BBC wishes to bring younger audiences to BBC services by making bold, innovative
programmes. It also wants the young people to engage more with the BBC's news and current
affairs, without having to dumb it down too much or showing less parliamentary programming. New
methods of attracting more of the UK's ethnic minorities, both through the mainstream and targeted
through specially made programmes are needed.
Younger audiences appear to be a trouble area for the BBC, as they are supposedly failing to attract
enough of them to programmes. Young people are greatly interested in new and existing technology.
Programmes like Tomorrow's World could be created especially for young people, providing news
and information on different inventions and modifications to existing technology. Currently there are
not enough dedicated programmes to it. Nowadays the news appears to be very serious and bleak.
To alter this more funny news and entertainment news should be shown. Ethnic minorities do make
up a considerable amount of the UK population. These families of an ethnic

Analysis Of 1984 By George Orwell
Bennett Curran
Ms. Melnychenko
English 1–F

Could George Orwell Predict the Future?
John Green once said, "Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal,
and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until
all living humans read the book." Throughout George Orwell's bone chilling novel, 1984, he uses
hefty imagery to show the cruelness of the society they live in. While the book was intended to be
guess on the future, Orwell made a pretty accurate prediction. As expected, the book shot way over
what is happening today, but there are a few aspects that stick out. Throughout the book, the reader
is put in the situation where they don't know what is real or fake. However, if all humans were to
read the novel, the struggles that the protagonist faces might be able to be stopped before they
become a problem. George Orwell makes a variety references that relate to the world today from
technology to government, thus, making the book have similar and afflicting views to the society
known today.
To begin, Orwell's futuristic society is in a way like the one known today. In the book, he states, "It
was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within
range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of
anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself – anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality,

Natural Disasters
Examples of natural disasters which occurred in 2017 are hurricanes, forest fires, mudslides, floods,
earthquakes, etcetera. A few of these disasters got excessive coverage via all sorts of global media
for long periods whilst some got very little. In late August of this year, many countries around the
world experienced floods and heavy rainfall–somehow the flooding in Houston was covered
extensively in the global news section at BBC Worlds News and CNN World News whilst minimal
approach was taken on the coverage of the hundreds who died in South Asia and Sierra Leone
because of floods and mudslides respectively. Seeing as more lives were lost to the mudslide in
Sierra Leone, West Africa than to Hurricane Harvey in Houston, USA, it is almost difficult to argue
against the media bias in BBC World News and CNN World News.
The ultimate purpose of the news media is to be a promoter of the voice of the voiceless (the
common people) on both a local and global scale–ultimately, a public servant. Today, the media
molds, shapes and creates an opinion in our minds before we get an opportunity to think for
ourselves. Whether we watch the news on the television or listen to the radio or follow CNN or
BBC World News on some social media platform like Facebook or Twitter–we receive controlled
content altered to favor a certain group of people, companies, industries–or in this case, countries.
Irrespective of what the media implies in its actions, no life lost is less or more important

"achieving world peace" and this is a great dream, but it is just a dream, not reality. People have
begun to fight for world peace without thinking rationally about what it means because world wide

be a quiet place where all is in order, a place from which comes the energy that overcomes

"If my private world is in order, it will be because I have courageously confronted the messiness of
my ways of living and chosen to bring them under rigorous discipline" (Sector One pg 27).
"Drivenness is a quality seen in people motivated to make something of themselves for less–than–

terribly. But is it possible to spot such people? According to Macdonald there are many symptoms
visible in an individual that may suggest that they are driven. These are: A driven person is most

results (33). Secondly a driven person is preoccupied with the symbols of accomplishment; they are
people who are aware of the symbols of status (34). Thirdly a driven person is an

Olafur Eliasson is a Danish– Icelandic artist who is credited for his sculptures and large scale
instillations that reflect nature through the use of elements such as light, air temperature and water to
enhance the audience's experience of the work. The boundaries of different disciplines, within
Eliasson's works, are often blurred and technology is used to serve his artistic vision and further his
ideas; enhancing his work and forcing the audience to solely focus on the subject without being
distracted by the technology. Eliasson comments the most exciting part of his art–making is, "the

Eliasson takes a ubiquitous topic that is commonly used universally to create 'small talk' and uses it
as a foundation for exploring ideas about experiences, meditation and representations of the weather.
The expanse of Turbine Hall is completely taken over by representations of the sun and the sky,
where a fine mist filters the space, forming clouds and then diffusing. The ceiling of the hall is
covered in mirrors that reflect the audience and the mists below. The sun is made up of a semi–circle
of hundreds of mono frequency lamps, the other half of which it reflected in the mirrors, creating a
full sun and connecting the real space and the reflection. The uses of the mirrors create a whole
landscape and create a space that has depth that is created by a reflection of reality, allowing the
audience to fully immerse themselves within the artwork. Eliasson uses technology to draw attention
to how individuals perceive the surrounding environments and he explores the variations in the
comparison of the ephemeral elements of nature to the unpredictable weather outside. Eliasson
views the weather as one of the few fundamental encounters with nature that can still be experienced
in the city. He explores how weather has shaped the city and how the city becomes a filter through
which one can experience the weather. The artist also uses technology to establish

The Importance Of Writing
Writing
Writing is a large part of understanding not just English, but all languages. It allows people to
communicate with each other, look at the past, and for the schematics used for technology and
buildings. Though many might distain the thought of it, writing is vital to everyday life and is a tool
used around the world.
Most forms of communication are in some form of writing, such as texting, typing, or writing a
letter. Whether it be through computer code or a common language every text based communication,
that is not vocal, is considered writing. Essentially, writing exists as the cogs that make text based
speech turn and without it the communication methods that are used every day would not exist.
These forms of writing also help foreign peoples understand the language used by any country they
might be in. This is possible due to language to language dictionaries, which have been applied all
around the world, and subtitles on news and tv shows. This creates a bridge between languages and
allows people to view the world through a different perspective. Writing is a key part to
understanding other languages and allowing people to communicate with one another.
History, whether recent or ancient, is what humans base most of their decisions from. History is
written pieces of knowledge that usually refer to other's mistakes or lack thereof that have helped the
world chose wiser decisions. Historians have collected, combined, as well as wrote jottings that

Is Chivalry Alive Today Essay
Chivalry is the type of thing that would be great to have in our society but I don't believe that it
exists too much anymore in the world today. Let me break down here some of the chivalry rules
compared with the actions of the people of the current world.
One rule of chivalry is that you have to honor and respect women. Back in the days of King Arthur
this was carried out greatly but if you look at the lack of respect given to women today you see that
this rule of chivalry no longer exists. Women's right have made great strides in the past few decades
but women are just not given the respect that they deserve. Women were put in high regards back in
King Arthur's day. Now they are not as respected as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is seen as very honorable to give someone who asks mercy but I don't see too much honor shown
in our world today.
Another rule of chivalry is to never do battle to obtain goods. Well this is the rule that is the most
broken in our world in my opinion. I always see on the news have robberies are made and how
things are stolen. Sometimes people get hurt in the process of this and that is just not right. I wish
that the convicts of the world would take a lesson in what is right from the Knights of the Round
Table.
Now a very debatable rule of chivalry is do not do battle without cause. Now what can be justified
as proper cause. When you look at the wars that are going on today some can be justified as having
proper cause. If a country is going to cause unworthy harm to many innocent victims it is alright to
go in and send them a message. If a country is breaking a few trade sanctions or something of that
nature then another punishment can be handed down, but not necessarily war. Now when you look
at gang wars those probobly have a hidden cause that none of us see, but still that doesn't make it
right. I am sure that when the knights fought they thought that they had cause but even if they didn't
at least they thought they did. That is better than just fighting for material possessions.

The Importance Of Social Media
Social Media Social media sites have taken over our lives in the past years. Social media plays an
important role in our life today. Whether it is good or bad, over the past years social media is a
rising trend in the world today. Everyone use social media, young and old. It is hard to imagine that
we did not have social medial until 10 years ago. I am interested in this topic because I myself use
social media every day, I have seen good things happen to people through social media just as much
as bad things. I found myself checking my twitter page and other peoples page without even
thinking about it. Sitting behind a phone screen or computer can be fun but also bad. People
communicate all day every day through email, texting, phone call, and of course social media.
Social media has a great impact on people today than ever before. Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook,
Twitter are becoming the most visited sites on the internet. These websites and apps allow people to
easily share location, pictures, link, and messages with other people. Social media is being accessed
by parents, students, businesses. It is being used by many different people all around the world for
many reasons. With people using social media there are a few things they might have notice. They

Essay On Kindness
Kindness is putting others feelings ahead of your own to make sure that they are staying strong in
this messed up, cruel world. Kindness makes a difference in the world by impacting the lives of
individuals in a positive way every day. You may not think that a simple act can change someone's
day, but trust me when I say that people notice the slightest bit of generosity toward others. I
understand that life is hard and everyone has mountains they have to climb, but you never know
what the people around you are going through. Kindness can be shown by just the smallest gesture.
Others don't comprehend that giving is better than receiving; it feels this hole in your heart with so
much love. Everyone can show kindness; they just have to have the want to, even if they are an
enemy or have done you wrong in some way. Being kind gives you a better attitude and outlook on
life. It makes you more optimistic and more understanding. People hide their emotions so well in
this day and age that you never know what someone might be battling up against. Nobody wants the
whole world to see what they are going through, so they put up a front so others don't see their
problems. By being kind to your peers and everyone around you, it makes you understand that life is
difficult and different for everyone. Not only does kindness change your heart, it changes your
mindset. You know that even if someone has done you wrong, they still deserve kindness because
that may be the only uplift they have

Pros And Cons Of The Removal Of Confederate Statues
The Removal of the Confederate Statues On August 12, 2017, a white nationalist rally in
Charlottesville, VA turned into a violent and brought renewed attention to dozens of Confederate
monuments from around the country. The removal of the confederate statues has its pros and cons as
to why they should take them down. My opinion to this debate is that they shouldn't take the statues
down. There are three reasons why I would not want them removed. The first is that what we should
see in the statues is a ghost, a remainder from the past that nobody could banish. It is important to
remember that we live in a country built by strife and bloodshed, as well as hope and posterity. The
statues are to remember they existed, remember their mistakes and accomplishments and learn from
them to not have to remember that detestable past with some of them when they were alive. Another
reason to not remove them is because people that grow up throughout the years should have the
opportunity to learn about what happened years ago so they could have an idea of how people
treated each other and how equality wasn't the same back then. The last reason is to prevent more
fights than there are already. Remembering forces us to become wiser. Remembering and getting to
know history is one of the most important things that people should get to learn about by the simple
fact to get to know the world and how throughout the years its become better and worse in a few
ways. The reason why we should all

The Growing Epidemic of World Poverty Essay
Poverty is one of the biggest problems in the world today and it just keeps growing. Poverty is when
you have either no money or you don't have enough money to support yourself or your family.

Poverty impacts other countries that are near a country in poverty because poverty spreads overtime
to other places. Poverty affects a lot of people and places all over the world and that is why it is such
a big issue.
So what can we do to help put an end to the problem known as poverty? Well we could fund
organizations giving care packages or supplies like books, food, clothing, and shelters. If natural
disasters are what caused that nations poverty to rise we could get other countries to help rebuild the
broken structures. If we ignore poverty though it will just grow and grow until one day we can never
control it and the world will be consumed by poverty. Nations need our help to end poverty and we
may do it eventually. It would take a really long time though to eliminate poverty all together but it
will one day be eliminated.
If I had to think of a way to end poverty is try to make a fundraiser or get some people to donate to
someone in poverty. I think that if people understood what poverty does to people they would do all
they could to help people in poverty. Maybe it can spread across the country and we can work
together as a country to fix this issue. What will you do to try and stop poverty from spreading?
So poverty will and always will be this world's biggest problem unless we find a way to stop it from
growing out of our control. Somebody needs to step up and stop poverty from growing. So will that
person be you that

`` Beautiful Monsters `` By Eric Puchner
Will a perfect world ever exist? The ideology behind the creation of a utopia is so that its inhabitants
will be content, and have an equal understanding of one another. However, in the attempt to create
this dreamlike utopia, it becomes susceptible to becoming a dystopia because individuality is
destroyed in the hopes of creating unity. This futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive
societies are controlled and make it seem like a perfect world, but what do these dystopian worlds
show us? In his text "Beautiful Monsters," Eric Puchner depicts a world where adults are cast out of
society. A world where children live forever and control society. It's the conflict of the Perennials
and the Senescent that shows Puncher 's political argument. Puchner's argument is people often
classify people and reject them from society through the false values that have been implemented in
their society. While in Neil Gaiman 's and Bryan Talbot's comic strip, "From Homogenous to
Honey," they depict the world where a masked assailant completely erases the homosexual narrative
of history. By destroying these narratives, he is carrying out his agenda, and creating a dystopian
society where everyone's narrative is the same. Gaiman and Talbot's argument speaks on if society
were to strip away all homosexual cultural influences. They bring the conclusion of individuality
being attacked leading to a lack of independent thinking, this, in turn, causes individuals to lose
themselves. This

Persuasive Essay : The Reasons For Helping A Scholarship
The reason for needing this scholarship is so I can excel in every way. To earn this scholarship
I plan on working hard. All the steps in taking to get it will be worthwhile my hard work. I need the
scholarship to help pay for materials I need to graduate. The scholarship is to be brought in for great
work. It also can pay for a lot of things for school, such as housing, food, and clothing.
I would take all the actions on becoming great. Another reason for achieving this is the point of just
having free money.
Another good reason is to help pay for my books. The books is the most important thing in school
without books you will not pass and not have the key tool to study with and focus. The scholarship
is money putting into your pocket for extra stuff u need. Money given from the state to benefit you
in the long run so your parents want have to work so hard for you. I wouldn't want my parents to
pay for all my stuff anyway. So it will be an opportunity of a lifetime to get it because nobody in my
family got that opportunity. If I get the scholarship I will be thankful about it and very happy of
accomplishing one of my goals I worked very hard for. I will not let anything out the way get in the
way of me pursuing my goal. When I receive the scholarship I will be in shock and amazement of
this opportunity because out of a million years I wouldn't think I can ever get that.

Importance Of Society On Society
A society is generally recognized as a group of people living together in the same geographical area
that typically share the same beliefs and culture. Society is also heavily influenced by a number of
other factors, one of the most predominant ones being music. Many musical artists nowadays write
songs in response to world events and to express their feelings toward their society. The song
"Where Is the Love?" by the Black Eyed Peas is representative of today's society by referring to
how it is insensitive, hypocritical, and divided. The first characteristic of today's society expressed
in "Where Is the Love?" is insensitivity. Over time, a multitude of devastating events have occurred
around the world, but the more often they happen, the less people seem to care. This is because
people become desensitized to tragic incidences after hearing about them so many times. In the
song, the lyrics, "People killin', people dyin' / Children hurt and you hear them cryin'" refer to
ongoing wars, human trafficking, oppression, and exploitation occurring mostly in developing
countries that people in more developed countries are aware of, but don't do anything to help with.
The lines, "I think the whole world addicted to the drama / Only attracted to things that'll bring you
trauma" apply to the insensitivity of people in society because they perfectly describe how people
find dramatic world events entertaining. Even though they are aware that there are serious issues in
the world, they

Waste Not, Want Not" and "Forget Shorter Showers

  • 1. 20 Time Research Paper 20 Time Reflection During the eight weeks we had to do our 20 Time projects, I chose to do a study on World Hunger. When deciding what to spend my eight weeks doing, I knew I wanted it to do with a problem in the world today. I've always felt really passionate towards things that currently happen in our world because not only do they affect me but my neighbors, friends and community as well. Though it is saddening, trying to narrow it down to one world problem was difficult. I was surprised to find that more than 10,000 world problems are in the world today and they continue to grow every minute. As soon as I came along the possibility of learning about hunger I knew it was what I wanted to do. I was drawn to it immediately and I wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My heart ached for these kids that died every day. At times I found the fiery passion I once had dying because with each new fact, came a part of me that thought things were never going to change. It seemed the more I knew about hunger, the more hopeless I felt. I think serving is what kept me going. It reminded me that change isn't an overnight process. That things will get better but we have to always keep hope. As I saw the faces of those children who were getting a real meal for the first time all week, it showed me that to think we couldn't make a difference was a foolish ... • 3. The Impact Of Technology In Foreign AffairsBy Alison Lurie In today's changing world, technology has influenced most everyone. In this new age, many different opinions and controversies have arose. Foreign Affairs, a novel by Alison Lurie, uses fictional characters and events to create ideas, illustrated in the novel, that compel the reader to think about common societal issues and their causes. Foreign Affairs uses characters' ideas on tourism and places emphasis on societal norms and the characters' opinions of them as a catalyst to nudge the reader into this thought about common issues in society. Virginia (Vinnie) Miner, an advanced professor at Corinth University in the novel, illustrates societal behaviors and their impact on her. Fred Turner, another professor at Corinth University in the novel, discusses tourism and his opinions of it with friends in London, England. Plato's "Allegory of the Cave", "Comic" by Scott McCloud, and Adam Gopnik's article "Stones and Bones" can be used as lenses to view Foreign Affairs. When using McCloud's lens, the emphasis on societal behaviors and tourism in Foreign Affairs, acts as a vehicle for cogitation on the reader's part about the actual and representational and their roles in the world today. Plato's lens, when applied to Foreign Affairs, leads the reader to consider the effects of people living in a representational world as opposed to living in the actual world. Gopnik's lens addresses aspects of tourism that lack the actual culture and emotion behind an event or place, leading to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Distinguishing the Difference in News Coverage among... Distinguishing the Difference in News Coverage among International and Domestic Images Not Included Identifying a Variance in News Coverage It became evident throughout our investigation that separating domestic news source sites from international news source sites would be beneficial in addressing our question of the variance in coverage among these news sources when identifying natural disasters throughout the world. With the objective of properly addressing this inquiry, we decided upon a proposition in order to accurately identify whether a difference in news source coverage truly exists. Therefore, we propose that world reports provide more specifications about international involvement in natural disasters rather than reports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the lack of articles was difficult to project, having more stories per news source would prove to be increasingly beneficial when making statements regarding the objectives of each site. Nevertheless, it is important to wisely use the stories we have in order to accurately make distinctions between sources; therefore, it is imperative to discuss the role of geography and pictures presented in the articles. A Geographic Input Because the objective of this project is to identify differences and similarities between world news sources and domestic news sources with the given tags, discussing the role of geography will be useful in order to understand what the differences and similarities mean. The attached chart (at the bottom of this section) attentively illustrates what region(s) of the world each news source focuses on. One obvious pattern is the amount of articles CNN and CNN World have. Therefore, why is this pattern apparent? This pattern can possibly be due to the fact that there is a quicker turnover with articles on CNN, or because CNN has an objective of covering an array of stories in many different regions. Nevertheless, the larger number of CNN and CNN World articles is helpful for comparing the news sources to one another. As well, the current issue of the flooding and destruction in Indonesia ... • 7. A Comparative Analysis Of Bill Mckibben's Waste Not, Want Not A Comparative Analysis of Bill McKibben's "Waste Not, Want Not" and Derrick Jensen's "Forget Shorter Showers" Our world is wasting valuable resources left and right, as addressed in both essays "Waste Not, Want Not"" by Bill McKibbens, and "Forget Shorter Showers" by Derrick Jensen. In "Waste Not, Want Not"" Bill McKibbens focuses on the importance of preserving our recourses. He mentions how wasteful the human race is, and how un–necessary all of the things that cause waste really are. In "Forget Shorter Showers" Derrick Jensen leans more towards the idea that no matter what humans do, they are incapable of wining. Either they lose their opportunity for economical and intellectual growth, or they lose their precious recourses and clean world. Both writers realize that we are wasting recourses, and believe that change is necessary for advancement. While the writers may have similar views, they have different ideas on how to solve the issue, and use different methods of communicating their ideas. Both writers believe that the world is being overly wasteful. There are many different recycling and nature preserving programs in the world today, but when it comes down to it, too many humans do not care about their world. They would rather live in an advance life with cars, electricity, bottled water, air conditioning, factories, long showers, and shopping bags. In "Waste Not What Not" Bill McKibben brings up the interesting point that it's "Not just waste, but wasteful" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Summary Of Rules For Radicals By Saul David Alinsky In the world today, there are many problems that each and everyone of us face. These issues can arrange from small to big depending on a person's opinion or status. Along with having issues they can affect people in different ways too. There are many problems around the world, but specifically in the United States there is a lot going on. In the book or playbook, Rules for Radicals by Saul David Alinsky describes different disruptive tactics to help/better less fortunate people against the system. Before reading this book I did not have an idea about what radicals were, but only that they were used in math. The reason why I chose this book to read was because a recent co–worker of mine had told me about the book. I was interested in reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first one he describes is Power, which he states that using combinations of words dilutes the meaning. Alinsky states that power's meaning is ""ability, whether physical, mental, or moral, to act," has become an evil word, with overtones and undertones that suggest the sinister, the unhealthy, the Machiavellian" (p. 63). I believe this is very true and a strong statement. The next word that is talked about is Self–interest, similar to power alinsky says. That both of these words have a "black shroud of negativism and suspicion". There are two more words talked about compromise and conflict, which he also describes. The following chapter talks about "The Education of an Organizer". Alinsky talks about how they need to find what creates the organizer. After the chapter of organizer's, there is a chapter about communications. Alinsky states a really interesting point, that someone can lack any of the qualities of an organizer. Although there is one exception which is the art of communication. The next chapter/step for a radical is to be accepted by people to be an organizer. Alinsky goes into further detail on what is the different ways to get the acceptance from people. Finally we get into the juicy part of the playbook, which is where the tactics come into play. There are a total of thirteen rules that to be able to be successful in being a radical. The rules are: first rule is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Alisa Miller's How The News Distorts Our Worldview In Alisa Miller's presentation, How the News Distorts Our Worldview, she enlightens the audience on how, as Americans we are only educated on an extremely small percentage of what is happening in the world today. In reality, that isn't the case and while a lot of people want that kind of world, it is out of reach. Conflict today has become almost normal, and that's the most tragic and disheartening aspect of the human race and the world we live in today. Throughout Lord of The Flies by William Golding, Piggy is the most sane child. Piggy and his glasses represent the world we wish we could have, a world where you don't see news stories about school shootings and violence in foreign countries. The boys represent the world that we live in today, and this is proven in the choices they choose to make. In a way it was almost like opening up pandora's box when the boys first got stranded on the island. From the start, Piggy's glasses are a notable symbol. When the boys first get off the plane they attempt to start a civilized society, but the moment Piggy's glasses were broken by Jack when he "smacked Piggy's head" (Golding 71). The relationship between the tone of each poem is very similar. In Eliot's paper the tone is set by the main character in, in this case an old man. Similarly, in Bidart's poem there is a main character that set the tone of the story by the way they express it. Specifically, in both poems the tone is shown in the pessimistic view of both characters of their respective poems. The old man in "Gerontion" is pessimistic because of how the world around him is and how people are losing their religion. Likewise, in "If See No End Is" the character is pessimistic because of what he perceives the world to be, because of his negative outlook on like because of him being a victim of being bullied. The second aspect of each poem that is similar is the plot of each poem and its meaning. The meaning behind Bidart poem is of a sixth grader whose outlook on the world is distorted because of the world that he knows. His bullied life makes him believe that the world no matter where you live all looks different, but in the end life is still the same. Likewise, in Eliot's poem the character talks about how his life and how the world is changing away from religion. • 27. The Song Analysis Of 'Where Is The Love' The song "Where Is The Love" by the Black Eyed Peas is a very heartfelt prayer for the healing and suffering in the world and society that we live in. I feel like the song is about exactly what the title is asking. Where is the love? Sometimes we have to stop, look around us and think about the relationships we have with other people. Are our relationships built on foundations of true love, compassion and kindness? Although the songs was originally released in 2003, most of the issues the song focuses on are still relevant today, in 2017. Which really makes me wonder, where IS the love? Surely after 14 years, things would have changed. Hate and war have existed since the beginning of humanity. Crime is an enormous part of our society, in the past and in the present. Imagine a world that is crime free, the perfect utopia. A world where everyone accepts their neighbour for the person they truly are, without racism, without judgement, without oppression. "Where is the love?" recognizes chaos in a broken world, intoxicated with violence and hate. The song opens with the lyrics, "What's wrong with the world Mama, people livin like they ain't got no Mama, I think the whole world's addicted to Drama, only attracted to the things that will bring them trauma" For me the lyric about "No Mama" The people of today's society don't know how to behave properly. We lack knowledge and understanding of the world. We don't pay attention to anyone but ourselves. We don't know right from wrong. We are completely oblivious to what this world is turning into and all we are doing are things that hurt ourselves and others. This lyric about having "No Mama" saddens me as there are a lot of people out there in this world who do not have a mother to guide them on the right path. We need a mother figure in our life because having a mother teaches us basic life lessons that allow us to survive and be a good person. Such as to always say please and thank–you, respect people, be kind and love your neighbour. I can not relate to not having a mother figure in my life as I have had the same amazing mother my whole life. In his book he mentions the BBC (The British Broadcasting Corporation) and their screenings during World War II. The British Broadcasting Corporation plays a large role in the memoir as it illegally broadcasts information to assist the Allied forces during World War II. In distinction from being the most wide–used televised services; the British Broadcasting Corporation goes down in history for coming to aid during World War II. From World War II to today, the BBC is broadcasting information across the globe. In the early 20th century, the BBC didn't follow the small steps of the other televised services. Essay on Sir John Reith Sir John Reith Sir John Reith was the first Director General of the BBC, and he had particularly strong views on broadcasting as having a cultural and moral responsibility as a means of educating and informing the masses. He once famously stated – 'It is occasionally indicated to us that we are apparently setting out to give the public what we think they need– and not what they want – but few know what they want and very few what they need. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of the BBC as a public service meant that the provision should be public goods rather than a private commodity (Curran, 2000). The funding of the service was based upon the license fee and their agreement with parliament, and this was decided when it was felt that advertising could limit the number of programmes they would be able to broadcast. They maintained the view that 'our responsibility is to carry into the greatest possible number of homes, everything that is best in every department of human knowledge, endeavour, or achievement' (cited in Smith, 1998). That the BBC kept a firm degree of independence from the government was always at the forefront of Reith's aims, and the fact that it also gained a reputation for its impartiality meant that it came to be, and to some extent, still is a respected institution throughout the world. Nowadays, the BBC still pride themselves on being 'free of commercial interests and political bias' (2002). During his reign on the BBC throne, Reith came under much criticism on his views of overestimating the mentality of the public, and providing a service that contained the matters that he thought should be most important to society. Patriotic Ads : How We Make Decisions Laura Cruea Mrs. Gilliland English 1201 October 24, 2016 Patriotic Ads: How We Make Decisions Did you know that patriotic ads or notions influence how we think? It can also positively influence the way we make a purchase or make us think of a product in a different light. It can also persuade us in making decisions based on what we feel is the best patriotic decision. It is usually at its peak during election time when everyone is watching and waiting to see who will lead our country for the next 4 years. When the country is divided by who they feel will be our best patriotic leader and what they stand for. It also peaks at times of historical tragedies, such as 9/11 or the ongoing war in Afghanistan. This is the time when businesses use this to their benefit. Anytime something affects our country in a major way, it is time for businesses to "cash in" by using patriotic symbols or sayings to persuade us to buy their product over someone else 's. It is our patriotic duty to support them as they support our country, is sometimes the underlying message. It is also a way to "sway" our thinking to one way or another based on the experience we have from watching or listening to an advertisement. • 45. Analysis Of 1984 By George Orwell Bennett Curran Ms. Melnychenko English 1–F 12 October 17 Could George Orwell Predict the Future? John Green once said, "Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book." Throughout George Orwell's bone chilling novel, 1984, he uses hefty imagery to show the cruelness of the society they live in. While the book was intended to be guess on the future, Orwell made a pretty accurate prediction. As expected, the book shot way over what is happening today, but there are a few aspects that stick out. Throughout the book, the reader is put in the situation where they don't know what is real or fake. However, if all humans were to read the novel, the struggles that the protagonist faces might be able to be stopped before they become a problem. George Orwell makes a variety references that relate to the world today from technology to government, thus, making the book have similar and afflicting views to the society known today. To begin, Orwell's futuristic society is in a way like the one known today. In the book, he states, "It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A few of these disasters got excessive coverage via all sorts of global media for long periods whilst some got very little. In late August of this year, many countries around the world experienced floods and heavy rainfall–somehow the flooding in Houston was covered extensively in the global news section at BBC Worlds News and CNN World News whilst minimal approach was taken on the coverage of the hundreds who died in South Asia and Sierra Leone because of floods and mudslides respectively. Seeing as more lives were lost to the mudslide in Sierra Leone, West Africa than to Hurricane Harvey in Houston, USA, it is almost difficult to argue against the media bias in BBC World News and CNN World News. The ultimate purpose of the news media is to be a promoter of the voice of the voiceless (the common people) on both a local and global scale–ultimately, a public servant. Today, the media molds, shapes and creates an opinion in our minds before we get an opportunity to think for ourselves. People around the world have recognized that raising conflicts between nations of the world could ultimately lead to the end of civilization. Americans have specifically taken interest in this issue because today the United States is one of the leading powers of the world. If America does not take ... Peace is a process that needs to take place around the world. With action, peace can be achieved with time. There will still be conflict around the world, but the major issues will eventually be resolved and the tension between conflicting nations can also slowly decline. They knew that the heart is to be protected from influences outside itself that may jeopardize its integrity (pg 23). Ultimately there must be a quiet place where all is in order, a place from which comes the energy that overcomes turbulence and is not intimidated by it" (pg 25). "If my private world is in order, it will be because I have courageously confronted the messiness of my ways of living and chosen to bring them under rigorous discipline" (Sector One pg 27). "Drivenness is a quality seen in people motivated to make something of themselves for less–than– best reasons" (pg 29). There are many people in the world today whose very drive is costing them terribly. But is it possible to spot such people? According to Macdonald there are many symptoms visible in an individual that may suggest that they are driven. These are: A driven person is most often gratified only by accomplishment; they are the type of people who only see life in terms of results (33). Olafur Eliasson Olafur Eliasson is a Danish– Icelandic artist who is credited for his sculptures and large scale instillations that reflect nature through the use of elements such as light, air temperature and water to enhance the audience's experience of the work. The boundaries of different disciplines, within Eliasson's works, are often blurred and technology is used to serve his artistic vision and further his ideas; enhancing his work and forcing the audience to solely focus on the subject without being distracted by the technology. Eliasson comments the most exciting part of his art–making is, "the moment where the fact that it is digital will go unnoticed, and the fact that it is art will be the focus." Eliasson takes a ubiquitous topic that is commonly used universally to create 'small talk' and uses it as a foundation for exploring ideas about experiences, meditation and representations of the weather. The expanse of Turbine Hall is completely taken over by representations of the sun and the sky, where a fine mist filters the space, forming clouds and then diffusing. The ceiling of the hall is covered in mirrors that reflect the audience and the mists below. The sun is made up of a semi–circle of hundreds of mono frequency lamps, the other half of which it reflected in the mirrors, creating a full sun and connecting the real space and the reflection. The uses of the mirrors create a whole landscape and create a space that has depth that is created by a reflection of reality, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves within the artwork. Eliasson uses technology to draw attention to how individuals perceive the surrounding environments and he explores the variations in the comparison of the ephemeral elements of nature to the unpredictable weather outside. Eliasson views the weather as one of the few fundamental encounters with nature that can still be experienced in the city. He explores how weather has shaped the city and how the city becomes a filter through which one can experience the weather. The artist also uses technology to establish ... It allows people to communicate with each other, look at the past, and for the schematics used for technology and buildings. Though many might distain the thought of it, writing is vital to everyday life and is a tool used around the world. Most forms of communication are in some form of writing, such as texting, typing, or writing a letter. Whether it be through computer code or a common language every text based communication, that is not vocal, is considered writing. Essentially, writing exists as the cogs that make text based speech turn and without it the communication methods that are used every day would not exist. These forms of writing also help foreign peoples understand the language used by any country they might be in. This is possible due to language to language dictionaries, which have been applied all around the world, and subtitles on news and tv shows. This creates a bridge between languages and allows people to view the world through a different perspective. Writing is a key part to understanding other languages and allowing people to communicate with one another. History, whether recent or ancient, is what humans base most of their decisions from. • 57. Is Chivalry Alive Today Essay Chivalry is the type of thing that would be great to have in our society but I don't believe that it exists too much anymore in the world today. Let me break down here some of the chivalry rules compared with the actions of the people of the current world. One rule of chivalry is that you have to honor and respect women. Back in the days of King Arthur this was carried out greatly but if you look at the lack of respect given to women today you see that this rule of chivalry no longer exists. Women's right have made great strides in the past few decades but women are just not given the respect that they deserve. Women were put in high regards back in King Arthur's day. Now they are not as respected as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is seen as very honorable to give someone who asks mercy but I don't see too much honor shown in our world today. Another rule of chivalry is to never do battle to obtain goods. Well this is the rule that is the most broken in our world in my opinion. I always see on the news have robberies are made and how things are stolen. Sometimes people get hurt in the process of this and that is just not right. I wish that the convicts of the world would take a lesson in what is right from the Knights of the Round Table. Now a very debatable rule of chivalry is do not do battle without cause. Now what can be justified as proper cause. When you look at the wars that are going on today some can be justified as having proper cause. If a country is going to cause unworthy harm to many innocent victims it is alright to go in and send them a message. If a country is breaking a few trade sanctions or something of that nature then another punishment can be handed down, but not necessarily war. Now when you look at gang wars those probobly have a hidden cause that none of us see, but still that doesn't make it right. I am sure that when the knights fought they thought that they had cause but even if they didn't at least they thought they did. That is better than just fighting for material possessions. ... • 61. Essay On Kindness Kindness is putting others feelings ahead of your own to make sure that they are staying strong in this messed up, cruel world. Kindness makes a difference in the world by impacting the lives of individuals in a positive way every day. You may not think that a simple act can change someone's day, but trust me when I say that people notice the slightest bit of generosity toward others. I understand that life is hard and everyone has mountains they have to climb, but you never know what the people around you are going through. Kindness can be shown by just the smallest gesture. Others don't comprehend that giving is better than receiving; it feels this hole in your heart with so much love. Everyone can show kindness; they just have to have the want to, even if they are an enemy or have done you wrong in some way. Being kind gives you a better attitude and outlook on life. It makes you more optimistic and more understanding. People hide their emotions so well in this day and age that you never know what someone might be battling up against. Nobody wants the whole world to see what they are going through, so they put up a front so others don't see their problems. By being kind to your peers and everyone around you, it makes you understand that life is difficult and different for everyone. Not only does kindness change your heart, it changes your mindset. You know that even if someone has done you wrong, they still deserve kindness because that may be the only uplift they have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of The Removal Of Confederate Statues The Removal of the Confederate Statues On August 12, 2017, a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA turned into a violent and brought renewed attention to dozens of Confederate monuments from around the country. The removal of the confederate statues has its pros and cons as to why they should take them down. My opinion to this debate is that they shouldn't take the statues down. There are three reasons why I would not want them removed. The first is that what we should see in the statues is a ghost, a remainder from the past that nobody could banish. It is important to remember that we live in a country built by strife and bloodshed, as well as hope and posterity. The statues are to remember they existed, remember their mistakes and accomplishments and learn from them to not have to remember that detestable past with some of them when they were alive. Another reason to not remove them is because people that grow up throughout the years should have the opportunity to learn about what happened years ago so they could have an idea of how people treated each other and how equality wasn't the same back then. The last reason is to prevent more fights than there are already. Remembering forces us to become wiser. Remembering and getting to know history is one of the most important things that people should get to learn about by the simple fact to get to know the world and how throughout the years its become better and worse in a few ways. Well we could fund organizations giving care packages or supplies like books, food, clothing, and shelters. If natural disasters are what caused that nations poverty to rise we could get other countries to help rebuild the broken structures. If we ignore poverty though it will just grow and grow until one day we can never control it and the world will be consumed by poverty. Nations need our help to end poverty and we may do it eventually. It would take a really long time though to eliminate poverty all together but it will one day be eliminated. If I had to think of a way to end poverty is try to make a fundraiser or get some people to donate to someone in poverty. I think that if people understood what poverty does to people they would do all they could to help people in poverty. The ideology behind the creation of a utopia is so that its inhabitants will be content, and have an equal understanding of one another. However, in the attempt to create this dreamlike utopia, it becomes susceptible to becoming a dystopia because individuality is destroyed in the hopes of creating unity. This futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societies are controlled and make it seem like a perfect world, but what do these dystopian worlds show us? In his text "Beautiful Monsters," Eric Puchner depicts a world where adults are cast out of society. A world where children live forever and control society. It's the conflict of the Perennials and the Senescent that shows Puncher 's political argument. Puchner's argument is people often classify people and reject them from society through the false values that have been implemented in their society. While in Neil Gaiman 's and Bryan Talbot's comic strip, "From Homogenous to Honey," they depict the world where a masked assailant completely erases the homosexual narrative of history. By destroying these narratives, he is carrying out his agenda, and creating a dystopian society where everyone's narrative is the same. Gaiman and Talbot's argument speaks on if society were to strip away all homosexual cultural influences. They bring the conclusion of individuality being attacked leading to a lack of independent thinking, this, in turn, causes individuals to lose themselves. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Importance Of Society On Society A society is generally recognized as a group of people living together in the same geographical area that typically share the same beliefs and culture. Society is also heavily influenced by a number of other factors, one of the most predominant ones being music. Many musical artists nowadays write songs in response to world events and to express their feelings toward their society. The song "Where Is the Love?" by the Black Eyed Peas is representative of today's society by referring to how it is insensitive, hypocritical, and divided. The first characteristic of today's society expressed in "Where Is the Love?" is insensitivity. Over time, a multitude of devastating events have occurred around the world, but the more often they happen, the less people seem to care. This is because people become desensitized to tragic incidences after hearing about them so many times. In the song, the lyrics, "People killin', people dyin' / Children hurt and you hear them cryin'" refer to ongoing wars, human trafficking, oppression, and exploitation occurring mostly in developing countries that people in more developed countries are aware of, but don't do anything to help with. The lines, "I think the whole world addicted to the drama / Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma" apply to the insensitivity of people in society because they perfectly describe how people find dramatic world events entertaining.
