Suleiman Leaders
Throughout history there have been a variety of leaders that have been both successful in bringing
their country to power, or completely bringing it into shambles. There are three very important
leaders that were very successful in benefiting their country throughout history, and they also have
many similarities. These leaders are Suleiman the Magnificent, Nelson Mandela, and Queen
Elizabeth I. These leaders were all very intelligent, had a positive impact on their country, and also
were very liked by their people. The main trait needed by a ruler is a solid base of intelligence. The
sultan of the Ottoman empire, Suleiman the Magnificent, was a highly intelligent man. In battle,
Suleiman used drums and cymbals to put fear and terror in the minds of his enemies, which gave
him a psychological advantage (pg. 117). Furthermore Suleiman was very interesting in art,
architecture, and the law; which made him into a very brilliant leader as well as warrior. Next,
Nelson Mandela showed large amounts of intelligence both at highs and lows of his life. Mandela
was sent to prison for fighting against injustice, and even though he was discouraged by near
certainty of failure, he still kept expanding his mind as well as helping others learn. The prison he
was sent to was Robben Island prison, yet since he was constantly teaching the ... Show more

Suleiman was able to leave a positive impact on his country by both expanding its borders as well as
turning Istanbul into one of the world's cultural centers (pg. 119). Furthermore, Queen Elizabeth
also expanded her country's borders (pg. 122), as well as encouraging important writers and
scientists; like William Shakespeare and Sir Francis Bacon, to pursue their passions and ideas. Next,
Nelson Mandela was able to positively impact his country by eradicating the apartheid within South
Africa as well as making a far more peaceful place (pg.

16th Century
Everyone strives to be great and leave a lasting legacy. This includes the nations of the present,
present, and future. But, how do nations become great? Powerful militaries, strong economies, and
stable internal affairs are what make nations great, but how are these achieved? The answer to this
question can be found by looking at the past. One time period to observe is the 15th and 16th
centuries. In this time many civilizations rose to new heights across the globe. Obviously the
greatest of the time would be the place to look. So, what is the greatest civilization of these
centuries? Like the civilizations of modern times the nations of that time were faced with unseen
obstacles, mostly surrounding an unprecedented connectedness. The Ottomans ... Show more

Their government was entirely based on connections. Many administrative duties were delegated to
regional leaders by the sultan and under these leaders were more delegated duties. This meant that
their whole government was a complicated web of connections. The government was fair and stable
because the people who ran it were very close to the people they were making rules for. Given their
remarkable size and diversity it is impressive that they never had any large scale revolts. Their
empire included Muslims, Jews, and Christians. Despite the conflicts between these groups the
Ottomans were able to quell their differences by assigning religious leaders to each province, further
increasing the web of connection within the empire. Critics of the Ottoman will say that their
government was too spread, without a clear leader. On the other hand, the sultan was quite powerful,
as evidenced by Suleiman the Magnificent. He was a legendary leader and as sultan vastly improved
the Ottoman empire. The Ottomans ruled with a firm, but steady hand. This hand was held together
by a complex network of connections. The Ottomans were undoubtedly great, with their mighty
military, robust economy, and firm governing. They achieved their greatness through embracing the
power of connections. Being an undisputed power during the 15th and 16th century, many nations
of the present and future will attempt to reach such power. Their legacy

Compare And Contrast Ottoman And Safavid Empires
The world began to drastically change before the year fifteen hundred. These changes not only
reshaped the world, but continued to change and develop from the fifteenth to the seventeenth
centuries. Among these changes came the formation of many outstanding empires that included the
Ottoman and Safavid Empires. The Ottoman and Safavid Empires account for two of the three
Islamic Empires that underwent change and development during these centuries. Both empires had a
ruler at the head of the empire; a sultan ruled the Ottoman Empire while a shah ruled the Safavid
Empire. Two great rulers emerged from these empires; a sultan named Suleiman the Magnificent
ruler of the Ottoman Empire and a shah named Abbas the Great ruler of the Safavid Empire.
In his twenties, Suleiman took over the role as sultan of the Ottoman Empire. His reign as sultan
lasted roughly forty–six years in which he did many great things. The Ottoman Empire grew to
maximum potential in size, as well as power during Suleiman's reign. Suleiman had many
accomplishments, not only did he lead his armies into battle, but he revised the legal system,
brought religious freedom, and made advancements in culture and in other areas such as philosophy,
poetry, and calligraphy. Suleiman himself even wrote a poem called "Poems to the Polish Rose."

Great Leaders and Their Impact on People Around the World Throughout history, there have been
many great leaders who have made many great achievements. Three leaders specifically who made
extraordinary accomplishments are Suleiman the Magnificent, Nelson Mandela, and Queen
Elizabeth I. Each one of these leaders helped their country in many ways and are referred to as
honorable, and fascinatingly intelligent leaders. Although each of these leaders are similar in how

Each one had a different goal in which they strove to enhance their countries' way of life. First of
all, Suleiman the Magnificent's main focus was expanding his empire, and to make the Empire's
military force stronger (pg.117). He thought the best way to build his empire up was to start with a
sturdy military foundation. Instead of focusing on the military aspect of leading, Queen Elizabeth I
thought that encouraging new scientific thinking and increasing achievements in literacy and the
arts would benefit her country the most (pg.122). It is shown that this was in fact the best thing for
her country at the time because the time she ruled is often referred to as the Golden Age of Britain
(pg.122). Although these two leaders found great ways to revolutionize their countries, Nelson
Mandela fought for a much different cause than either of them. During Nelson's time period, an
official policy of racial separation was taking place in South Africa (pg.121). Nelson, like most
others, didn't think this was right; although unlike most others, Nelson decided to take a stand
against it. His efforts eventually won him a Nobel Peace Prize and great satisfaction in how
discrimination in South Africa was forever changed (pg.121). Each of these leaders had a much

Similarities And Differences Of The Ottoman Empire And The...
History has consisted of many different empires. Two of the earlier empires are known as the
Ottoman Empire and the Safavid Empire. The Ottoman Empire was established around 1299 by
Osman I, who was also a leader of the Turkish tribes (History.com). The Ottomans began in Asia
Minor during the break down of the Turks, which later led the Ottoman Empire to expand and
conquer land across Asia and Europe. While the Safavid Empire was established in 1501 east of the
Ottoman Empire. The Safavid Empire emerged in modern day Iran, which was east of where the
Ottoman Empire started and expanded. Both of these empires were strong in power and had many
resources available to them. Similarity, the Ottoman and Safavid empires had one highly recognized
and strong leader each, where they both ruled a Monarch. For the Ottomans, the strongest leader
was Suleiman, who came to power around 1520 and ended his reign in 1566. On the other side, for
the Safavids, the greatest leader was Abbas I, who came to the throne in the year 1588 at the young
but determining age of sixteen. During Suleiman's power in the Ottoman Empire, he created a

But within these similarities, there are small differences like when referring to religion. These
Empires were strong, however, that did not mean that they would live on. The Ottoman Empire
collapsed in the year 1920, due to the instability of their growing empire (NZHistory.govt.nz).
Unlike the Ottoman Empire, the Safavid Empire did not last as long as the Safavid Empire collapsed
around the year 1720. Their decline was caused by the decline in military power because their need
to shield from the Ottoman Empire decreased which made them more susceptible to attack, in which

The Ottoman Empire : European Influence Of The Ottoman Empire
The Ottoman empire was one of the most successful and powerful empires of their time. The empire
was built to become the largest and most influential of the multitude of Muslim empires. The empire
lasted many years because of its strong janissary army and rulers. It had sultans that conquered
lands throughout Europe, Africa and Asia around the Anatolia region. Their military expanded over
and into much of Europe, along with Islam. Though power shifted towards Europe, this shift was
not inevitable.
European dominance of the Anatolia region was avoidable because of the Ottoman Empire. Prior to
the empire, there was dynastic civil warfare in this region. Mehemed II the conqueror, who is
considered the real creator of the empire, took a newly built and advanced navy across Pera to the
Bosporus, to attack both of the walls of Constantinople in order to conquer the city. He later
renamed it Istanbul. Selim the Grim created the Ottoman navy, which effectively captured
Mesopotamia, Egypt and Syria and was then able to acquire the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
Sultan Suleiman drove the Ottoman Empire to conquering most of its lands. Suleiman conquered
great cities, and introduced military machines to the great Ottoman Empire. Most of the lasting
history of this empire relies on the achievements made by this one ruler. For example, "Suleiman
doubled the size of the empire and oversaw its expansion throughout the Balkans and Hungary and
as far west as Vienna. He also oversaw

The Empire Of The Ottoman Empire
Three of the greatest empire in the history the ottomans in turkey, the Safavids in Persia and the
Mughals in the Indian subcontinent emerged in the Muslim world between the 14th and the 18th
centuries. These three greatest empire resulted in a powerful cultural interaction. The empires
expanded their power and thus Turkish, Mongol and Arab ways of life blended. It resulted in a
flowering of Islamic culture that raised higher in the 16th centuries. The empires ruled through
Islamic Sariah's. They based the authority on Islam. Their basement of power were strong armies,
advanced technology and legal administrative officers. The Ottomans Build a Vast Empire The
ottomans established a vast empire that lasted for a long time, more than 600 years and blended
many cultures in one. The empire's history is still important as many modern societies, from Algeria
to Turkey, originated from the Ottomans rule. Setting the Stage By 1300, the Byzantine Empire was
declining. The nomadic Turks were invading the lands. They had a long history of invading others.
But they were not united. From this place, a strong leader will emerge in and rule the empire
strongly. Turks Move into Byzantium Many Anatolian Turks, to be seen as Ghazi's (warriors of
Islam), formed military societies under the leadership of an emir. They used to follow Islamic code
of conduct. They raided the territories on the frontiers of Byzantine Empire. Byzantine Empire The

A Short Story Of Aeldra's Life Story
No luck she never had the chance to be happy. Aeldra couldn't handle it anymore. She was all by
herself growing up in a destroyed, impoverished cabin surviving more than living, always begging
for food on the street and never had anyone to be with except her parents everyday in her
dreams. Her horrible life story started when she was only a three month baby when her father Deniz
died on a trip in the sea, and a nine year old little girl when her mother Bora was killed in a
hurricane. Destiny or maybe just the name curse, Aeldra wasn't sure what it was. Deniz means sea in
Turkish and Bora has the meaning of hurricane and that is where their life ended, where their
destiny landed them at the end so Aeldra made a promise to herself to call her first born baby Hakan
which meant emperor so the destiny would make him the ruler. Aeldra hated the fact of being lonely
and a family was what she desired the most in her life. A need to belong, to be part of something,
that was all she wanted from this world but at the age of sixteen she got the most horrible lesson on
her life: Better off alone than with monsters. She got raped on a rainy night while she was alone in
the street and from that horrific experience, she got pregnant. She was too young to be a mother, too
poor to have a baby so even it hurt her heart the most she decided to get rid of the life that was
growing inside her. She was four months pregnant and her back was killing her because of the

Compare and Contrast Ottoman and Mughal Empires Essay
The Ottoman and Mughal empires were two of the greatest and most successful empires to ever
form in history. However, they both had some similarities as well as differences. Both empires went
through tough periods of time, but at some point they also went through times of growth and
prosperity. Although the Ottoman and Mughal Empire both did not force conversions into Islam, the
Ottoman's development relied on their tough military force, while the decline of the Mughal Empire
was caused by Aurangzeb's policy of religious persecution and high taxes. Because of the Ottoman
and Mughal Empire being tolerant of other beliefs, people of all religions living in the empire lived
in peace. The Ottomans granted freedom of worship to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Babur expanded his kingdom by attacking Afghanistan and conquering Kabul after 21 years of
being in power. From that point, he crossed over the mountains into Hindustan and attacked the
Dehli Sultanate, again defeating them and gaining their land. When he died in 1530 he had
conquered all of Hindustan and controlled an empire that stretched out from the Deccan to
Turkestan. These different strategies of conquering land helped the 2 empires rule throughout Asia
and, in the Ottoman's case, some parts of Europe also. Although the Ottoman and Mughal empires
had two different reasons for decline, both were because of the leaders currently in power at the
time. Even though Suleyman, the ruler of the Ottomans, accomplished social and cultural
achievements, the empire was losing ground. Suleyman made a mistake by killing two of his sons.
His third son, the incompetent Selim II, inherited the throne. Suleyman set the pattern for the future
sultans to gain and hold power. It became customary for each new sultan to kill his brother. This
practice produced a long line of weak sultans who eventually brought ruin on the empire. Since
India was mainly a land of the Hindus, The stability of the Emperor, in this case Aurangzeb,
depended on the support of the people. Without their loyalty and cooperation, stability was
impossible. When Aurangzeb came into power, he departed from the tradition of religious tolerance

Suleyman was one of the most respected and powerful sultan's to take the throne of the Ottoman

including expanding the empire's borders to Vienna. His military aspect is shown through the use of
the Kilij, which was a type of sword used by the Ottoman's (Ottoman Kilij). The legal scale and the
Kilij represent the key values of law and war, which were both essential to Suleyman's successful
rule. This logo should be used throughout the Ottoman Empire and especially in the main cities, as
it will show Turks and Arabs Suleyman's beliefs. Since Suleyman was highly religious, the setting
should be at the front of mosques, so that muslims would realize his devout personality. Muslims
will be able to look up to him, as they can see him as a religious leader. Suleyman was also a very
wise and knowledgable man, as shown through his fluency in six different lagnguages: Ottoman
Turkish, Arabic, Serbian, Chagatai Turkish, Farsi, and Urdu (Szczepanski). This is used in the
motto, in order to demonstrate his knowledge. The motto for Suleyman is "I am the Ottoman

According to Jane Simmons, "His people called him Kanuni, 'the Lawgiver'," but others, Europeans,
called him "Suleiman the Magnificent." He was a sultan, a supreme leader, who became one of the
greatest leaders in history. He was able to, in 1520, ascend the Ottoman throne, because of the many
phenomenal characteristics that he was endowed with. He was known as an aggressive head of
military, because of how committed he was, and how well thought out his tactics were. This made
him feared, but also admired by people in other lands. He was also smart, very interested in
knowledge, and learning more about art, architecture, and law. In 'Suleiman the Magnificent' it
states that "under his reign the Ottoman Empire reached its peak both as a military power and as a
center of culture." It takes a true leader to be able to bring his empire to its highest ever. While these
two were terrific people, and leaders in there own way, there is no one way to becoming a leader. I

The Armenian Genocide : The Primary Causes Of The Armenian...
The Armenian Genocide was the systematic killing where over one and a half million Armenians
were killed in the hands of the Ottoman Empire. The primary cause of the genocide was the
Committee of Union and Progress, specifically Talaat Pasha, Enver Pasha, and Djemal Pasha, due to
their trans–nationalistic ideas of a nation for only the Turks. Armenians have been living in Turkey
for thousands of years, even before the establishment of the Sultanate of Rum, the first Turkish
establishment in the land we now call Turkey. During 1453 – 1829, life for an average Christian
Armenian was not terrible by today's standards. Although the Armenians lived in a more Islamist
state, the Ottomans tolerated the Armenians to the extent of just making them second–class citizens.
For example, unlike a Muslim living in the Ottoman Empire, Christians and Jews had to pay
elevated taxes, however, they were allowed to practice their religion. In the 19th Century,
Armenians started being misrepresented and unhappy with the current government. Specifically,
during 1850 – 1880's, there were several reform movements. For example, in 1856, the Hatt–i
Humayun promised equality for all citizens of the Ottoman Empire no matter what they believed in.
In 1863, Armenians were able to secure a national constitution to protect them further, and even
created a National Assembly 7. For Armenians, life was starting to get better, until 1894 – 1896, the

In many ways his governing style resembled the Ottoman ways. He gave severe punishments but

Compare And Contrast The Ottoman And Mughal Empires
An empire can be defined as an extensive group of states or countries under a single supreme
authority, formally especially an emperor or empress. The Mughal Empire was in existence from
1526 to 1857 while the Ottoman Empire was in existence from 1299 to 1923. Both of these empires
dominated world–wide with major success for many centuries. The history of both the Ottoman and
Mughal Empire can be summed up to their dominance in their respected areas, the values and
practices they held, the challenges they faced, and the importance both empires had while they were
reigning and in today's world. First, the Ottoman Empire operated differently from other empires
from the era; they allowed their subjects to have religious freedom. At this time ... Show more

The beginning of the fall of the Ottoman empire can be traced to the death of Suleiman the
Magnificent on September 7, 1566. After the tragic event, the proposed mistakes would eventually
return to cause the empire to fall. The Ottoman Empire did not advance with the world, did not
partake in the Enlightenment period, and they faced major economic problems. The Ottomans
missed the purpose of modernizing with the rest of the world. They participated in many wars with
the Austrian and Russian Empires. From April 1877 to March 1878, a war broke out which ended
with a Russian win. This led to tremendous debt. Another major downfall of the Ottoman Empire
was that they expanded too much. The last major even that caused the downfall of the Ottoman
Empire was the death of Suleiman the Magnificent in 1566. Suleiman the Magnificent was an
important and effective leader to the empire. Much like the Ottoman Empire, the Mughal had a
declining economy. Over their span, the Mughals gained many enemies. These enemies led to the he
Mughal's fighting in many wars on home territory. This caused major expenses for them due to
having to keep rebuilding their buildings and towns. Another problem the Mughals faced was
having too many foreigners in their empire. A major example of this idea are the British. The British
began building factories in the Mughal Empire land. This caused the British to have more business
control over the area. Due to this power, the development of the British economy, they were able to
begin to control taxes. Seeing this happen invited the French and Dutch to invade into the Mughal
area. Once Aurangzeb, a productive emperor, died, the empire completely fell

The Ottoman Empire’S Sultan Suleiman, Also Known As The
The Ottoman Empire's Sultan Suleiman, also known as The Magnificent Lawgiver, is widely
regarded to be one of the empire's greatest rulers. While it is known that he had a great love, a
Ukrainian concubine and later wife Roxelana, little is said of the part she played in helping the
nation prosper. Roxelana was the first concubine to achieve great power, and was even more
influential than the men in the imperial court. Through her diplomacy skills and her patronage of
charitable building projects, she broke through the barriers that were previously in place to limit
Ottoman women. Roxelana was a trailblazer when it came to a woman's role in the imperial
household; through her international diplomacy and charitable contributions to ... Show more

However, Roxelana stayed in Istanbul with Jihangir after her other sons moved away, and she even
moved out of the harem to Suleiman's quarters in Topkapi Palace. Additionally, Suleiman became
monogamous after their marriage, which was another aspect of their relationship that was
considered out of step with the Ottoman norm.
The harem was a very private institution that only the sultan had access to. Because of this, most of
the Western perspective on Roxelana is based on gossip. Since Suleiman was so sensitive about his
love for Roxelana, concerns were raised as to how she wielded such unprecedented control over the
sultan. In her love letters addressed to him, she used sweet language and poetic expressions to gain
more and more of Suleiman's love. In other words, she used her femininity to her advantage and
played the perfect wife to gain political influence and power. As a result, Roxelana was demonized
as a conniving woman who manipulated Suleiman through witchcraft. She was deemed a ziadi, or
"witch." The Ottoman public, as well as the Janissaries and the entire imperial court disliked
Roxelana. Undeniably, Roxelana was determined to become a powerful woman in the imperial
household, and she did not only rely on expressions of love to do this. She often acted on Suleiman's
behalf in foreign diplomacy deals and when gift exchanges were

As many countries developed over time, changes have occurred that benefited the citizens of each
nation. However, there is one important element that is needed to establish laws, peace, and

contributed to the success and evolution of all of our nations, proving to be a huge responsibility.
Residents are dependent amongst leaders, who are in charge of protecting their citizens at no cost.
Without the presence of them, chaos and corruption would establish, which could ruin relationships
and trade with other nations. In history, great leaders have been praised and admired. The
characteristics of three great leaders, who are Suleiman, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Elizabeth I,
have exhibited the qualities of being a great leader. These traits include causing admiration and
inspiration, demonstrating intelligent knowledge, and guiding residents and themselves to solve
conflicts that may cause death. To begin with, these three leaders have exhibited the passion of
being a great leader by causing admiration and inspiration. According to "Suleiman the

Ottoman Disadvantages and its Implications on The Siege of...
Under Suleiman the Magnificent the Ottoman Empire was a force to be reckoned with, it ruled the
Middle East and Suleiman was quickly realizing his goal of advancing into Europe. However in
1529 a major military upset in the Austrian city of Vienna would halt the Islamic Ottoman
expansion and save Europe from the possibility of Ottoman control. However this might not had
been the case if it were not for several key disadvantages the Ottoman Empire had against the
Viennese. Suleiman the Magnificent's defeat during the siege of Vienna, 1529, was caused by poor
weather conditions, chaos and disorganization amongst the Ottoman ranks, and a much stronger
Viennese defense than was anticipated.

This divided Hungary into two states, Royal Hungary and Ottoman Hungary, this division lasted
until 1700.
In the spring of 1529 Suleiman the Magnificent began to construct his massive army in Ottoman
Bulgaria, his objective is to conquer and secure control over all of Hungary and eliminate the threat
posed by Ferdinand I and the Holy Roman Empire. Estimates of the size of Suleiman's army vary
vastly from around 100,000 men to well over 300,000. The army also consisted of many units of
Sapahi, the elite Ottoman Calvary, and thousands and thousands of Janissaries, an extremely well
trained Ottoman fighting force. With such a vast group moving all at once there were certain
inherent difficulties the Ottomans faced. The biggest of these would be the sheer chaos caused by
the disorganization. Desertion was particularly rampant amongst the Ottoman forces and with the
disorganization it was nearly impossible to properly distribute resources, malnourishment was a big
problem because of the difficulty of acquiring food. This would mark a major disadvantage of the
Ottoman morale; it diminished their will to fight, and thus, their will to win.
Suleiman launched his campaign on May 10th, because this was so late in the year, the weather was
almost immediately a problem. The spring rains associated with that area of Europe caused flooding
and bridge wash outs were very common, this barley allowed to troops to leave

The Destruction Of The Mongols Across Afro Eurasia And The...
The destruction of the Mongols across Afro–Eurasia and the Black Death were the factors in which
prompted the creation of the three important Islamic states. The three newly formed empires were
the Ottomans, Safavids, and Mughals and they controlled regions from Southern Europe to the
northern part of India. According to Pollard, "by the mid–sixteenth century the Mughals controlled
the northern Indus river valley; the Safavids occupied Persia; and the Ottomans ruled Anatolia, the
Arab, world, and much of southern and eastern Europe," (Pollard, Pg. 391). The Ottoman Empire
lasted the longest of the three up until the early twentieth century due to their politics, religion
tolerance, and develop of commerce. The Ottoman Empire's politics were very clever to achieve
rapid success because its structure was based on adaptation and attractions. During Osman's reign,
the sultan, the empire adopted many ideologies from their adversaries to persuade people to joined
their improved kingdom. In the book, Pollard explains how, "[ the Ottomans] transformed
themselves from warrior bands roaming the borderlands between Islamic and Christian worlds into

Compare And Contrast Safavid And Mughal Empires
The great empires of history, particularly in Islamic history, were the Ottomans of Turkey, Safavids
in Persia, and Mughals in India. This text will be a brief run–down of the times in which Selim I,
Suleiman I and Jahangir ruled, in hopes that if become familiar with who these rulers were in terms
of the characteristics of their leadership and authority, we can interpret a picture what the society
was like at that time. The common facts that Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal empires shared was that
they all originated in Turkish nomadic cultures of the steppe, the class which originally dominated
the states and social hierarchy was a military aristocracy, they were Muslim led and it was their
devotion to Islam that encouraged them to carry the faith to new lands, they were based on conquest
and the use of military technologies, they began with absolutist rulers and efficient bureaucracies
and they surprisingly did not rule predominantly Muslim populations. The differences between the
empires laid up to their ruler's opinions, achievements and decree for example rulers of the Safavid
and Mughal Empires exerted even more spiritual authority than the others, forcing their citizens to
subject to their beliefs of the religion, Ismail and the emergence of Shiism. In the Mughal Empire,
conflicts between fathers and sons were frequent. The Safavids managed no better. A key instance of
this is Sultan Suleiman I (1495–1566). He was Selim's son who ruled for 46 years and helped

Turkish Empire To Europe Research Paper
Turkish Decline
Between the 16th and 18th century a power shift began to occur between Christian Europe and the
Turkish Empire. Turkey, being one of the most successful, thriving and longest lasting empires of
the world, began to deteriorate in the shadow of the rising European powers. The late 18th century
saw Europe ascending as a leading world power. This paper will argue two of the major reasons that
contributed to the shift of power from the dominant Turkish Empire to Europe. Firstly, after the
death of Sultan Suleiman in 1566, the Turks failed to advance militarily while the Christian empires,
who had already advanced far ahead, underwent significant military advancement. Secondly, the
policy of a Sultan being chosen for quality and character was replaced with a new policy of
inheritance, which contributed to the rise of unskilled and incompetent Sultans running the empire,
further contributing to the decline of the Turkish Empire. The period of the great expansion was a
period of great heights in the Ottoman Empire, over which Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent ruled.
Suleiman possessed what was acknowledged to be the most highly trained and effective soldiers in
Europe during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the main purpose of which ... Show more

Judith With The Head Of Holofernes And La Sultana Rossa
Judith with the Head of Holofernes and La Sultana Rossa represent examples of Italian Baroque
period painting which spanned the 16th to the early 18th century (Corrigan). Though the two
paintings Judith with the Head of Holofernes and La Sultana Rossa are considered from differing
centuries, they are both utilize specific and indicative Italian techniques true to the period of time in
which they were created.
The first work for consideration is Judith with the Head of Holofernes by Francisco del Cairo circa
1630/1635. This work, Italian Baroque, is identified as representative of the Caravaggista movement
which is realistic stylized baroque (Judith). In regard to the iconography of the piece, the main
subject, in the foreground, is a young Jewish widow by the name of Judith. Legend records her as a
heroic savior of her village after an attack by the Assyrian army. She is pictured with the severed
head of the Assyrian general, Holofernes, which she cut off in defense of her people (Camera).
Therefore, the purpose of this painting is to depict a religious Jewish icon and relate the dramatic
end of her story to the viewers. This oil on canvas is created with bold lines; however, the main
subject's face, Judith, is smooth and light unlike the heavier with thicker strokes and paint used in
the rest of the painting. Due to the horrific event, the scene is extremely dramatic. The artist utilizes
chiaroscuro with high contrast between light and dark to create shadows and an

Ottoman Empire in 1299 in western Anatolia and he was slowly extending his settlements away
from his Muslim neighbors. It was not allowed for Muslims to kill other Muslims. He had a number
of soldiers called the Ghazis who were brave, loyal and fearless. These solders helped Osman tread
into unknown land and spread his rule. Osman's name was becoming more known and after his

If an enemy doesn't strike from outside, an enemy may strike from inside. A civil war can cause
many deaths and disrupt the focus of any leader. Suleiman would have to put all of his attention to
people fighting inside his nation instead of focusing on incoming attacks from the outside. A lot of
empires have fallen due to internal attacks. Interaction with other sectors was not too often which
helps people be in an environment where everyone follows the same religion. There is also almost
no interference from the government on how the leader chooses to run the Millets. Things like taxes
and sometimes even laws aren't checked by the government because there aren't any rules against
having different styles of living. Travelers from different religious backgrounds can now enter a
land where they don't have to be feared of not being able to walk in and get hurt because of their
differences. This encourages travelers, who are usually traders to come to this culturally diverse and
peaceful land to trade their goods, instead of going to Europe where only one religion was accepted:
Christianity. Suleiman put out the laws on streets so that all could read and understand what is

During the Stagnation period, the Ottomans faced economic and politic discontent. Moreover, the
battle of Vienna was a major setback for the Ottomans as their expansion to Europe was restricted.
One of the major causes for the decline of the Ottoman Empire began with the death of Suleiman
the Magnificent in 1566, tailed by the European developments in technology. When the Ottomans
failed to industrialize, they began to fall behind Europe in naval and military technologies and
strategies. After Suleiman death, the following leaders of the Ottoman Empire failed to invest in
modern technology, failed to take advantage of the scientific revolution, and the Enlightenment
(728,730–732,734) As a result, throughout the rest of the 1500s and 1600s the Ottoman Empire
declined in power even more after a series of military defeats, and loss of territory. In the 1800s, the
Ottomans encountered severe rebellions, as the empire became politically and socially instable.
Moreover, the Ottoman Empire declined as a result of both internal and external factors. Internally,
the Ottomans dealt with numerous problems. First, after the death of Suleiman the Magnificent, the
sultans became weak, less energetic, and the empire suffered increasing corruption. Moreover, the
Janissaries became a huge problem as they demanded higher wages, and became very rebellious.
Additionally, the size of the Ottoman Empire became problematic. The ottomans failed to keep
control over their empire, failed to expand, and as a result their economy was affected. Externally,
Portuguese circumnavigation around Africa to India opened new spice routes to Asia. As a result,
the Ottoman Turks lost their monopoly on spice trade costing them a lot of money. Also, the Spanish
Empire brought huge amount of Gold and Silver into Europe which resulted in inflation and other
troubles for the Ottoman Empire. The

Military Leaders: Suleiman, Mandela, And Queen Elizabeth
A leader is someone who works with the team, not stands by and watches. A leader does what is best
for their people. A leader would do whatever it takes to make his people get what they need. The
leader should inspire the people to do the best they can at all times. Suleiman, Mandela, and Queen
Elizabeth I all experience these traits. They all show these traits a little different though. For
example, Suleiman, also known as Suleiman the Magnificent, was a powerful leader and warrior.
According to text 1, "This sultan, Suleiman, became one of the greatest rulers in history. An
aggressive military leader, he was feared but admired by people in the other lands." Suleiman was
feared by the opposing side while in war, but also admired by the other lands for: being a strong
warrior, a builder, and a poet. "Suleiman always rode at the front of his army while in battle to

Differences And Roles Of The Mughal And Ottoman Empire
Revision for History
Both the Mughal and Ottoman Empire started off as military clans. Osman Bey founded the
Ottoman Empire, the chief of a semi–nomadic Turkish clan that settled in Northwestern Anatolia
whose goal was to convert people into ghazi's. While the Mughal Empire was founded by Babur a
Chagatai Turk who claimed descendance from both Chinggis Khan and Tamerlane whose main goal
was to create a strong Asian society. Over time, both the Ottoman and Mughal Empire created
strong autocratic empires that reflected steppe traditions relying on bureaucracies lead mostly by
men. Despite Islamic customs women played important political and government roles in the
Islamic Empires, especially the wives of the emperors. Although the wives of the Mughal and
Ottoman Emperor's had privileges, the authority they had on the empires differed. Indeed, not only
was the role of women impactful on the Islamic Empires, but also trade. On one hand, the Ottoman
Empire focused on foreign trade to gain knowledge and expand their influences on societies. In
contrast, the Mughals concentrated on domestic trade. All Islamic Empires had strong domestic
economies but over time their economies declined due to the high cost of maintaining the military
and administrative system.
In the Ottoman and Mughal Empires, similarly, the rulers had total control over their subjects
inspired by steppe traditions. Rulers had total control over army, appointed and dismissed people

The Wall Of The Old City Of Jerusalem

Old City of Jerusalem almost 70 years ago from the years 1937–1938. Hamilton began several test

approximate levels at the time of the last major reconstruction – in the middle of the sixteenth
century A.D by Suleiman the Magnificent. The wall of the Old City of Jerusalem was rebuilt in the

The accumulated debris contributed fresh evidence on the earlier history of the present North Wall
line. With the help of Robert Hamilton's detailed excavation report, one is able to use the findings to
reconstruct the sequence of the wall's construction, reconstruct the sequence of the accumulation of
debris [pottery and coins] at its base, and to put these reconstructions together to tell the story of the
wall.
At first glance of the masonry of the wall, the composite structure shows that some parts are not
attributes to the reconstruction during the sixteenth century but can be attributed to another series of
repairs made by Mamluke, Ayyubid or other earlier Islamic rulers. Meanwhile, lower sections such
as the base sections, give evidence of construction committed by Roman or Byzantine builders.
Reading through Hamilton's excavation report, a person can correspond each different style and set
of masonry to reconstruct the sequence of the wall's construction. According to Hamilton's report,
there were two distinct styles of surface treatment that predominated over all others, and there was a
third important class of masonry represented by three individual stones. The earliest detected type of
masonry was Style A which is represented by three individual stones. Style A was found below
courses 11 and 12 of the curtain. As Hamilton's team excavated the area, they found remnants of an
area they had limited information about.

The History Of Medieval Asia Minor ( Finkel )
Ertuğrul, the father of Osman I, arrived in Asia Minor from Merv, located in modern day
Turkmenistan, lead 400 horsemen to aid the Seljuks of Rum against the Byzantines. After the
dissolution of the Turkish Seljuk Sultanate of Rum in the 14th century, Asia Minor was divided into
a patchwork of independent, mostly Turkish states, the so–called Ghazi emirates. Leader of one of
these emirates was Osman I. In 1299, under Osman, his emirate extended the frontiers of Turkish
settlement toward the edge of the Byzantine Empire. How the early Ottomans came to dominate
their neighbors unknown because there is little known about the history of Medieval Asia Minor
(Finkel). The following century after Osman's death in 1326, Ottoman rule began extending over the
Eastern Mediterranean and into the Balkans. In 1326, just after Osman died, his son, Orhan
succeeded him, captured the northwestern Anatolian city of Bursa and named it the new capital of
the Ottoman state. The conquests of Orhan ended Byzantine control over northwestern Anatolia.
The sultans that followed expanded into Europe via the Hellespont and into the Balkans. The
Venetians lost the city of Thessaloniki to the Ottomans in 1387 and Serbian power in the region
ended after the Ottoman victory at Kosovo in 1389. With the Balkans under their rule, the strategic
conquest of Constantinople became a central objective for the Ottomans. The Turks succeeded in
controlling nearly all prior Byzantine lands surrounding the city.

A Leader Analysis Essay
Leader Analysis
"The people think of wealth and power as the greatest fate, But in this world a spell of health is the
best state" – Suleiman the Magnificent. Suleiman the Magnificent, Nelson Mandela, and Queen

qualities that really made each one of them unique, yet at the same time fantastic leaders.
Suleiman the Magnificent ruled during 1520–1566, he managed to create an empire and make his

Europeans knew him by a different name. What made him unique and so powerful, was his strategic

Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity
According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make
observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when
one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the
state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is
poor relief and charity. How to deal with the "poor" (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the
sick, etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern
Mediterranean had to address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime
candidate for comparison. For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the
surface, you can find vast differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were
often individual cities that were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a
vast, Muslim state compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find
similarities in regards to how charity and poor relief were handled.

Suleiman Leaders: Mandela, Elizabeth, Suleiman

  • 1. Suleiman Leaders Throughout history there have been a variety of leaders that have been both successful in bringing their country to power, or completely bringing it into shambles. There are three very important leaders that were very successful in benefiting their country throughout history, and they also have many similarities. These leaders are Suleiman the Magnificent, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Elizabeth I. These leaders were all very intelligent, had a positive impact on their country, and also were very liked by their people. The main trait needed by a ruler is a solid base of intelligence. The sultan of the Ottoman empire, Suleiman the Magnificent, was a highly intelligent man. In battle, Suleiman used drums and cymbals to put fear and terror in the minds of his enemies, which gave him a psychological advantage (pg. 117). Furthermore Suleiman was very interesting in art, architecture, and the law; which made him into a very brilliant leader as well as warrior. Next, Nelson Mandela showed large amounts of intelligence both at highs and lows of his life. Mandela was sent to prison for fighting against injustice, and even though he was discouraged by near certainty of failure, he still kept expanding his mind as well as helping others learn. The prison he was sent to was Robben Island prison, yet since he was constantly teaching the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suleiman was able to leave a positive impact on his country by both expanding its borders as well as turning Istanbul into one of the world's cultural centers (pg. 119). Furthermore, Queen Elizabeth also expanded her country's borders (pg. 122), as well as encouraging important writers and scientists; like William Shakespeare and Sir Francis Bacon, to pursue their passions and ideas. Next, Nelson Mandela was able to positively impact his country by eradicating the apartheid within South Africa as well as making a far more peaceful place (pg. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. 16th Century Everyone strives to be great and leave a lasting legacy. This includes the nations of the present, present, and future. But, how do nations become great? Powerful militaries, strong economies, and stable internal affairs are what make nations great, but how are these achieved? The answer to this question can be found by looking at the past. One time period to observe is the 15th and 16th centuries. In this time many civilizations rose to new heights across the globe. Obviously the greatest of the time would be the place to look. So, what is the greatest civilization of these centuries? Like the civilizations of modern times the nations of that time were faced with unseen obstacles, mostly surrounding an unprecedented connectedness. The Ottomans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their government was entirely based on connections. Many administrative duties were delegated to regional leaders by the sultan and under these leaders were more delegated duties. This meant that their whole government was a complicated web of connections. The government was fair and stable because the people who ran it were very close to the people they were making rules for. Given their remarkable size and diversity it is impressive that they never had any large scale revolts. Their empire included Muslims, Jews, and Christians. Despite the conflicts between these groups the Ottomans were able to quell their differences by assigning religious leaders to each province, further increasing the web of connection within the empire. Critics of the Ottoman will say that their government was too spread, without a clear leader. On the other hand, the sultan was quite powerful, as evidenced by Suleiman the Magnificent. He was a legendary leader and as sultan vastly improved the Ottoman empire. The Ottomans ruled with a firm, but steady hand. This hand was held together by a complex network of connections. The Ottomans were undoubtedly great, with their mighty military, robust economy, and firm governing. They achieved their greatness through embracing the power of connections. Being an undisputed power during the 15th and 16th century, many nations of the present and future will attempt to reach such power. Their legacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare And Contrast Ottoman And Safavid Empires The world began to drastically change before the year fifteen hundred. These changes not only reshaped the world, but continued to change and develop from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries. Among these changes came the formation of many outstanding empires that included the Ottoman and Safavid Empires. The Ottoman and Safavid Empires account for two of the three Islamic Empires that underwent change and development during these centuries. Both empires had a ruler at the head of the empire; a sultan ruled the Ottoman Empire while a shah ruled the Safavid Empire. Two great rulers emerged from these empires; a sultan named Suleiman the Magnificent ruler of the Ottoman Empire and a shah named Abbas the Great ruler of the Safavid Empire. In his twenties, Suleiman took over the role as sultan of the Ottoman Empire. His reign as sultan lasted roughly forty–six years in which he did many great things. The Ottoman Empire grew to maximum potential in size, as well as power during Suleiman's reign. Suleiman had many accomplishments, not only did he lead his armies into battle, but he revised the legal system, brought religious freedom, and made advancements in culture and in other areas such as philosophy, poetry, and calligraphy. Suleiman himself even wrote a poem called "Poems to the Polish Rose." Suleiman developed one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three leaders specifically who made extraordinary accomplishments are Suleiman the Magnificent, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Elizabeth I. Each one of these leaders helped their country in many ways and are referred to as honorable, and fascinatingly intelligent leaders. Each one had a different goal in which they strove to enhance their countries' way of life. First of all, Suleiman the Magnificent's main focus was expanding his empire, and to make the Empire's military force stronger (pg.117). He thought the best way to build his empire up was to start with a sturdy military foundation. Instead of focusing on the military aspect of leading, Queen Elizabeth I thought that encouraging new scientific thinking and increasing achievements in literacy and the arts would benefit her country the most (pg.122). It is shown that this was in fact the best thing for her country at the time because the time she ruled is often referred to as the Golden Age of Britain (pg.122). Although these two leaders found great ways to revolutionize their countries, Nelson Mandela fought for a much different cause than either of them. During Nelson's time period, an official policy of racial separation was taking place in South Africa (pg.121). Nelson, like most others, didn't think this was right; although unlike most others, Nelson decided to take a stand against it. His efforts eventually won him a Nobel Peace Prize and great satisfaction in how discrimination in South Africa was forever changed (pg.121). • 5. Similarities And Differences Of The Ottoman Empire And The... History has consisted of many different empires. Two of the earlier empires are known as the Ottoman Empire and the Safavid Empire. The Ottoman Empire was established around 1299 by Osman I, who was also a leader of the Turkish tribes (History.com). The Ottomans began in Asia Minor during the break down of the Turks, which later led the Ottoman Empire to expand and conquer land across Asia and Europe. While the Safavid Empire was established in 1501 east of the Ottoman Empire. The Safavid Empire emerged in modern day Iran, which was east of where the Ottoman Empire started and expanded. Both of these empires were strong in power and had many resources available to them. Similarity, the Ottoman and Safavid empires had one highly recognized and strong leader each, where they both ruled a Monarch. For the Ottomans, the strongest leader was Suleiman, who came to power around 1520 and ended his reign in 1566. On the other side, for the Safavids, the greatest leader was Abbas I, who came to the throne in the year 1588 at the young but determining age of sixteen. During Suleiman's power in the Ottoman Empire, he created a Uniform System of Law and welcomed variety forms of art and literature (History.com). The Ottoman Empire collapsed in the year 1920, due to the instability of their growing empire (NZHistory.govt.nz). Unlike the Ottoman Empire, the Safavid Empire did not last as long as the Safavid Empire collapsed around the year 1720. • 6. The Ottoman Empire : European Influence Of The Ottoman Empire The Ottoman empire was one of the most successful and powerful empires of their time. The empire was built to become the largest and most influential of the multitude of Muslim empires. The empire lasted many years because of its strong janissary army and rulers. It had sultans that conquered lands throughout Europe, Africa and Asia around the Anatolia region. Their military expanded over and into much of Europe, along with Islam. Though power shifted towards Europe, this shift was not inevitable. European dominance of the Anatolia region was avoidable because of the Ottoman Empire. Prior to the empire, there was dynastic civil warfare in this region. Mehemed II the conqueror, who is considered the real creator of the empire, took a newly built and advanced navy across Pera to the Bosporus, to attack both of the walls of Constantinople in order to conquer the city. He later renamed it Istanbul. Selim the Grim created the Ottoman navy, which effectively captured Mesopotamia, Egypt and Syria and was then able to acquire the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Sultan Suleiman drove the Ottoman Empire to conquering most of its lands. Suleiman conquered great cities, and introduced military machines to the great Ottoman Empire. Most of the lasting history of this empire relies on the achievements made by this one ruler. For example, "Suleiman doubled the size of the empire and oversaw its expansion throughout the Balkans and Hungary and as far west as Vienna. He also oversaw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Ottomans Build a Vast Empire The ottomans established a vast empire that lasted for a long time, more than 600 years and blended many cultures in one. The empire's history is still important as many modern societies, from Algeria to Turkey, originated from the Ottomans rule. Setting the Stage By 1300, the Byzantine Empire was declining. The nomadic Turks were invading the lands. They had a long history of invading others. But they were not united. From this place, a strong leader will emerge in and rule the empire strongly. • 8. A Short Story Of Aeldra's Life Story No luck she never had the chance to be happy. Aeldra couldn't handle it anymore. She was all by herself growing up in a destroyed, impoverished cabin surviving more than living, always begging for food on the street and never had anyone to be with except her parents everyday in her dreams. Her horrible life story started when she was only a three month baby when her father Deniz died on a trip in the sea, and a nine year old little girl when her mother Bora was killed in a hurricane. Destiny or maybe just the name curse, Aeldra wasn't sure what it was. Deniz means sea in Turkish and Bora has the meaning of hurricane and that is where their life ended, where their destiny landed them at the end so Aeldra made a promise to herself to call her first born baby Hakan which meant emperor so the destiny would make him the ruler. Aeldra hated the fact of being lonely and a family was what she desired the most in her life. A need to belong, to be part of something, that was all she wanted from this world but at the age of sixteen she got the most horrible lesson on her life: Better off alone than with monsters. However, they both had some similarities as well as differences. Both empires went through tough periods of time, but at some point they also went through times of growth and prosperity. Although the Ottoman and Mughal Empire both did not force conversions into Islam, the Ottoman's development relied on their tough military force, while the decline of the Mughal Empire was caused by Aurangzeb's policy of religious persecution and high taxes. Because of the Ottoman and Mughal Empire being tolerant of other beliefs, people of all religions living in the empire lived in peace. The Ottomans granted freedom of worship to ... From that point, he crossed over the mountains into Hindustan and attacked the Dehli Sultanate, again defeating them and gaining their land. When he died in 1530 he had conquered all of Hindustan and controlled an empire that stretched out from the Deccan to Turkestan. These different strategies of conquering land helped the 2 empires rule throughout Asia and, in the Ottoman's case, some parts of Europe also. Although the Ottoman and Mughal empires had two different reasons for decline, both were because of the leaders currently in power at the time. Even though Suleyman, the ruler of the Ottomans, accomplished social and cultural achievements, the empire was losing ground. Suleyman made a mistake by killing two of his sons. His third son, the incompetent Selim II, inherited the throne. Suleyman set the pattern for the future sultans to gain and hold power. It became customary for each new sultan to kill his brother. This practice produced a long line of weak sultans who eventually brought ruin on the empire. Since India was mainly a land of the Hindus, The stability of the Emperor, in this case Aurangzeb, depended on the support of the people. • 12. The Armenian Genocide : The Primary Causes Of The Armenian... The Armenian Genocide was the systematic killing where over one and a half million Armenians were killed in the hands of the Ottoman Empire. The primary cause of the genocide was the Committee of Union and Progress, specifically Talaat Pasha, Enver Pasha, and Djemal Pasha, due to their trans–nationalistic ideas of a nation for only the Turks. Armenians have been living in Turkey for thousands of years, even before the establishment of the Sultanate of Rum, the first Turkish establishment in the land we now call Turkey. During 1453 – 1829, life for an average Christian Armenian was not terrible by today's standards. Although the Armenians lived in a more Islamist state, the Ottomans tolerated the Armenians to the extent of just making them second–class citizens. For example, unlike a Muslim living in the Ottoman Empire, Christians and Jews had to pay elevated taxes, however, they were allowed to practice their religion. In the 19th Century, Armenians started being misrepresented and unhappy with the current government. Specifically, during 1850 – 1880's, there were several reform movements. For example, in 1856, the Hatt–i Humayun promised equality for all citizens of the Ottoman Empire no matter what they believed in. In 1863, Armenians were able to secure a national constitution to protect them further, and even created a National Assembly 7. • 29. Turkish Empire To Europe Research Paper Turkish Decline Between the 16th and 18th century a power shift began to occur between Christian Europe and the Turkish Empire. Turkey, being one of the most successful, thriving and longest lasting empires of the world, began to deteriorate in the shadow of the rising European powers. The late 18th century saw Europe ascending as a leading world power. This paper will argue two of the major reasons that contributed to the shift of power from the dominant Turkish Empire to Europe. Firstly, after the death of Sultan Suleiman in 1566, the Turks failed to advance militarily while the Christian empires, who had already advanced far ahead, underwent significant military advancement. Secondly, the policy of a Sultan being chosen for quality and character was replaced with a new policy of inheritance, which contributed to the rise of unskilled and incompetent Sultans running the empire, further contributing to the decline of the Turkish Empire. The period of the great expansion was a period of great heights in the Ottoman Empire, over which Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent ruled. Suleiman possessed what was acknowledged to be the most highly trained and effective soldiers in Europe during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the main purpose of which ... • 30. Judith With The Head Of Holofernes And La Sultana Rossa Judith with the Head of Holofernes and La Sultana Rossa represent examples of Italian Baroque period painting which spanned the 16th to the early 18th century (Corrigan). Though the two paintings Judith with the Head of Holofernes and La Sultana Rossa are considered from differing centuries, they are both utilize specific and indicative Italian techniques true to the period of time in which they were created. The first work for consideration is Judith with the Head of Holofernes by Francisco del Cairo circa 1630/1635. This work, Italian Baroque, is identified as representative of the Caravaggista movement which is realistic stylized baroque (Judith). In regard to the iconography of the piece, the main subject, in the foreground, is a young Jewish widow by the name of Judith. Legend records her as a heroic savior of her village after an attack by the Assyrian army. She is pictured with the severed head of the Assyrian general, Holofernes, which she cut off in defense of her people (Camera). Therefore, the purpose of this painting is to depict a religious Jewish icon and relate the dramatic end of her story to the viewers. This oil on canvas is created with bold lines; however, the main subject's face, Judith, is smooth and light unlike the heavier with thicker strokes and paint used in the rest of the painting. Due to the horrific event, the scene is extremely dramatic. The artist utilizes chiaroscuro with high contrast between light and dark to create shadows and an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was not allowed for Muslims to kill other Muslims. He had a number of soldiers called the Ghazis who were brave, loyal and fearless. These solders helped Osman tread into unknown land and spread his rule. Osman's name was becoming more known and after his death, people called him courageous strong and great. If an enemy doesn't strike from outside, an enemy may strike from inside. A civil war can cause many deaths and disrupt the focus of any leader. Suleiman would have to put all of his attention to people fighting inside his nation instead of focusing on incoming attacks from the outside. A lot of empires have fallen due to internal attacks. Interaction with other sectors was not too often which helps people be in an environment where everyone follows the same religion. There is also almost no interference from the government on how the leader chooses to run the Millets. Things like taxes and sometimes even laws aren't checked by the government because there aren't any rules against having different styles of living. Travelers from different religious backgrounds can now enter a land where they don't have to be feared of not being able to walk in and get hurt because of their differences. This encourages travelers, who are usually traders to come to this culturally diverse and peaceful land to trade their goods, instead of going to Europe where only one religion was accepted: Christianity. Suleiman put out the laws on streets so that all could read and understand what is allowed and what is not. This was important because now everyone knew the difference between right and wrong. • 34. Differences And Roles Of The Mughal And Ottoman Empire Revision for History Both the Mughal and Ottoman Empire started off as military clans. Osman Bey founded the Ottoman Empire, the chief of a semi–nomadic Turkish clan that settled in Northwestern Anatolia whose goal was to convert people into ghazi's. While the Mughal Empire was founded by Babur a Chagatai Turk who claimed descendance from both Chinggis Khan and Tamerlane whose main goal was to create a strong Asian society. Over time, both the Ottoman and Mughal Empire created strong autocratic empires that reflected steppe traditions relying on bureaucracies lead mostly by men. Despite Islamic customs women played important political and government roles in the Islamic Empires, especially the wives of the emperors. Although the wives of the Mughal and Ottoman Emperor's had privileges, the authority they had on the empires differed. Indeed, not only was the role of women impactful on the Islamic Empires, but also trade. On one hand, the Ottoman Empire focused on foreign trade to gain knowledge and expand their influences on societies. In contrast, the Mughals concentrated on domestic trade. All Islamic Empires had strong domestic economies but over time their economies declined due to the high cost of maintaining the military and administrative system. In the Ottoman and Mughal Empires, similarly, the rulers had total control over their subjects inspired by steppe traditions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The accumulated debris contributed fresh evidence on the earlier history of the present North Wall line. With the help of Robert Hamilton's detailed excavation report, one is able to use the findings to reconstruct the sequence of the wall's construction, reconstruct the sequence of the accumulation of debris [pottery and coins] at its base, and to put these reconstructions together to tell the story of the wall. At first glance of the masonry of the wall, the composite structure shows that some parts are not attributes to the reconstruction during the sixteenth century but can be attributed to another series of repairs made by Mamluke, Ayyubid or other earlier Islamic rulers. Meanwhile, lower sections such as the base sections, give evidence of construction committed by Roman or Byzantine builders. Reading through Hamilton's excavation report, a person can correspond each different style and set of masonry to reconstruct the sequence of the wall's construction. According to Hamilton's report, there were two distinct styles of surface treatment that predominated over all others, and there was a third important class of masonry represented by three individual stones. The earliest detected type of masonry was Style A which is represented by three individual stones. Style A was found below courses 11 and 12 of the curtain. • 38. Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is poor relief and charity. How to deal with the "poor" (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the sick, etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern Mediterranean had to address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime candidate for comparison. For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the surface, you can find vast differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were often individual cities that were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a vast, Muslim state compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find similarities in regards to how charity and poor relief were handled. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
