Benefit Of Community Service
Benefits of Community Service Community service contributes to a community in the same way
that quarterbacks, wide receivers, and offensive linemen contribute to a football team. Without
people helping out, there wouldn't be a way to score a touchdown or win a game. It is the same way
in helping out a community. The more people there are helping out, more homes would be built,
more mouths would be fed, and more people would have a happy life. Some people take for granted
the clothes they have on their backs and the table they get to eat dinner at with their family. There
are plenty of people in communities that do not have a home to come to every night. There are
plenty of people that do not have the clothes, food, or money they need to survive. People are not
the only thing that needs help in the community. Animal shelters are also one of many that could
always use an extra hand. Recycling and picking up trash is another way to help out. One of the best
ways to contribute to the community is volunteering and contributing time to helping others. Studies
show that community service contributes to the emotional, mental, and physical well–being of
people at any age. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) says in the year
2013, 138 million American adults volunteered. To break it down, the CNCS found the following
information: adults between the ages of 35–44 had the highest volunteer rate, adults between the
ages 45–54 had the second highest, and one in

In Simply: The Use Of Persuasive Techniques In Advertising
Advertising In Simply
This product is the best thing that you will buy all in your life for the low cost of just. That is one
example of the ways advertisement try to convince you to buy their products or service. To that it is
within our bearings to understand what these advertisements are doing to make us want to buy their
product. With using different types of language and strategies advertisers are able to sell their
product to you the consumer in a multitude of persuasive techniques. So some of the most
commonly used techniques include factual advertising, personal emotions, comparative, and social
advertisements to persuade you into buys the company's product or service.
One of the many ways of persuasion in advertising is through the use of factual language. Factual
being on the matter that the ad product has some astounding numbers to it as of big importance in
the products field. Such as many toothpaste ads with statements like "nine out of ten doctors

Comparative style is when the ad will show you how it stands to the other companies and try to
persuade you more towards their product or service. Some common phrases that can be used with
this is type of language as follows "compared to our competitors," or "Our company is at the top
among the others." Some prime examples of this technique in use are some old Pepsi ad they a kid
drinks Coca–cola first the haves a Pepsi and enjoys it more than the Coca–cola. Another example is
a Geico commercial where people drank the liquid and the better one was the Geico drink. This is
not the best of ads for the fact that it does not prove much, but it's a competitive ad so it works in
some matter. Lastly is on how these ads work towards making you want to buy or use the company's
product, by using this it's an attempt to start a bandwagon effect and have people want to buy the

How Literacy Is Used As A Communication Method
When it comes to understanding literacy I learned that reading, along with writing is used as a
communication method. However, there 's so much more to it than just obtaining the knowledge of
knowing how to read and write. It all truly depends on the way you use your skills in literature.
Literacy is different to each and every person, depending on who they are as a person. It can consist
of your culture, pronunciation, the way you dress, as well as all of your actions. That being said,
personally literature means not only knowing how to read and write, but the way we approach it as
an individual. For example, we are judged by the way we speak, look, act, where we come from, as
well as how we were raised. Which is all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I love her deeply, the way she spoke always bothered me as a child. My sister always
spoke "proper english" is what I will not call it, but politely and she understood how to express
herself and speak her mind in a polite manner. I was taught manners by my parents, greetings were
something you could not just pass by. "good morning" was to be said every morning to everyone in
the house along with a kiss otherwise it was a form of disrespect. A hug was followed with every
goodbye. Even though you could have been upset with a family member you were required to
forgive them and let the past stay in the past. Mainly because you never know if you are going to see
them tomorrow, living with regret is something no one wants. My father always told me, since I was
always a stubborn child, "forgiveness is not for the other person it is for you." At that moment I
realized he was right, the only person I was hurting all along was myself. Nevertheless, I have had a
time where I had to teach myself something that not only had disadvantages but some advantages as
well. Learning how to think before I spoke, Speaking your mind and the truths was always
something I believed in. However, I never realized that sometimes you have to think about the
consequences about your statement. Some days you have to tell people what they want to hear, not
the truth, but yes, in some occasions you have to speak your truths for the better of

The Many Ways Virtual Communities Impact Our World Offline
Children now are so captivated with their new tablets and what new features are coming out, one
does not see what is happening right before their eyes. Truthfully, social media like Facebook,
Instagram, and Twitter are some virtual community sites capture today's society. Individuals become
less social and pay more attention to what is happening on line rather than what is happening right in
front of them. In the article The Many Ways Virtual Communities Impact Our World Offline by
Jessica Lee, tells how cell phones and today's technology affects social skills for individuals, group

With all this new technology people who have anxiety about meeting new people in person have a
chance the meet and connect with people online with less pressure. A good example of this is with
Google+, it "allows us to create virtual social circles that mimic how we interact in our daily lives"
according to author Lee. Even though, these communities online are not real it allows people to
make some kind of connection, someone they can communicate with. Surprisingly, studies have
shown that "positive behavior can be reinforced in the physical world if the participant could
visualize and experience a particular scenario in the virtual world" says author Lee. One scenario
that was tested was with people exercising, the people noticed the more they worked out the more
pounds they shed verses when they sat on the couch and ate junk food the person would gain weight
much quicker. As a result of this experiment the people decided to start eating right and exercising
because the virtual people were able to lose weight by doing healthy things and not gain weight by
sitting on the couch eating junk food and gaining weight. In addition, this technology allows
businesses to thrive now and save money. Author Lee says "to cut down costs on travel and save

There Are Many Types Of Ways Teachers Can Assess Students'
There are many types of ways teachers can assess students ' knowledge. A formative assessment is
one of these types. A formative assessment takes place either during the lesson or before, as a
pretest. Formative assessments are used to see where students ' learning is at along the way. A
benefit of formative testing is that teachers can see what they should improve on in their lessons to
help students learn the content. A drawback is that formative assessments could be seen as "busy
work" if they are not created with students learning in mind. Another type of assessment is a
summative assessment. These assessments take place at the end of a lesson and cover a range of
standards learned throughout a unit. An example of a summative ... Show more content on

The students are then given a score. Sometimes, it is difficult to understand the score without a
knowledge of the vocabulary that comes with standardized testing. Important topics to understand
with standardized testing include, normal distribution, percentile rank, and grade equivalent scores.
A normal distribution is a bell curve. This is where many scores fall in the middle and fewer fall
towards the tails. Percentile rank is a score showing how well you did compared to others. For
example, if you are in the 80th percentile, this means that 80% of people 's scores were equal to or
below yours. The last concept mentioned is grade equivalent scores. These scores show the average
of how people of a certain test scored. It then takes your score and compares it to that average. If
you scored above the average, your grade level score will be higher than the grade level you are in.
This is a topic to be careful with. Just because your score is higher than grade level does not mean
that you should be taking that grade level 's curriculum. This is because "Different forms of test are
used for different grade levels..." (Educational Psychology Thirteenth Edition.) A benefit of
standardized testing is that dfdsfsdf s. A drawback is that teachers tend to teach to the test and lose
the creative curriculum and atmosphere of their classroom. Along with this, students tend to get
anxious and score poorly. Standardized test do not measure each students knowledge because each

How Caring Can Be Interpreted Throughout Many Different Ways
The word caring can be interpreted in many different ways. Caring can be seen as simply having any
feelings about someone or something that are more positive than the feeling of indifference. It can
also mean something much more extensive. According to the Oxford Dictionary, being caring means
displaying kindness and concern for others (Oxford Dictionaries). The Collins English Thesaurus
writes of the word caring being synonymous with words such as compassionate, loving, kindly,
warm, soft, sensitive, tender, sympathetic, and responsive (Collins English Thesaurus). As an
adjective, Webster Dictionary defines caring as having or displaying warmth or affection, or feeling
and exhibiting concern and empathy for others (Webster Dictionary). ... Show more content on

What is it that makes that person caring? Most textbooks and websites include the word care in their
definitions of nursing, but this type of caring can have a very in depth meaning. Providing care can
involve simply meeting the physical needs of someone who would be unable to meet those needs on
their own, but within nursing, it means much more. It is discussed in the code of ethics put out by
the ANA. One Medical–Surgical text put interpretations out on certain aspects of the code and what
they mean. The text states: "The nurse practices with compassion and respect for the inherent
dignity, worth, and unique attributes of every person" (Winland–Brown, J., 2015). To those writing
this article, that quote describes some of the most fundamental and ethical obligations of a nurse.
Every patient is different, but each one is still treated with respect and compassion. Later in in the
article, it mentions the nurse 's responsibility to advocate for their patient. This idea is consistent
with the obligation to promote health, provide the best care possible, and keep the patients safe.
Being caring is something that is discussed more and more frequently in regards to nursing. These
discussions involve more than just the caring aspects of nursing, but also the patient perception of
that care. If the process of meeting someone 's physical and health needs is considered caring, would
a patient be satisfied with a nurse who met those needs and nothing

Many Things Contribute To The Way A Person Acts, Or Reacts,
Many things contribute to the way a person acts, or reacts, to stimulation in life. There are different
societal expectations placed upon men and women that may influence their behaviour, thoughts, and
perceptions. One area of particular interest to me is the differences in the way that people of
different genders think and feel about topics that are often discussed in feminism. As a female who
identifies as a feminist, my thoughts regarding issues such as equal pay, reproductive rights, and
sexual violence often differ greatly than those of my male friends, who often do not identify as a
feminist. I decided to focus on the latter of the issues mentioned, specifically looking at how

social media in order to reach those who may not be in the same geographic location as me. My
research would take the form of triangulation, which is "...the use of more than one research
technique simultaneously, usually employing at least one quantitative and one qualitative method"
(Levan, 2016, p. 80). This would be done using surveys that use both closed–ended and open–ended
questions, therefore using both research methods (Levan, 2016). An example of a closed–ended
question would be "I have experienced sexual harassment in my workplace", to which possible
answers could be "Agree"; "Disagree"; "Unsure"; or "Not applicable". Tabulating the closed–ended
questions would be relatively easy, however, in order to process the answers given to the open–
ended questions, I may need to interpret to the answers to try and find common themes. Originally, I

There Are Many Ways That Have Been Proven To Help In...
There are many ways that have been proven to help in preventing cardiovascular diseases; certain
exercises and foods in particular. The American Heart Association gives a breakdown, of what you
and should be doing to help prevent heart disease, depending on your age. They clearly state, no
matter what your age is, you should be eating a healthy diet; this includes, eating a diet low in
sodium, saturated fat, and trans fat. Sodium is the salt added into your food. Foods high in sodium
are chips, table salt, crackers, pickles, sauces, dressings, and canned foods. Saturated fat is a
molecule that has no double bonds, which makes it "stackable" and is considered an unhealthy fat.
Foods high in saturated fat are; fatty beef, poultry (with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exercise is another key to maintain a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. The American Heart
Association recommends 150–minutes of moderate–intensity, aerobic, physical activity, or 75–
minutes of vigorous–intensity, aerobic, physical activity. To stave off boredom, it's suggested to do a
combination of both types of exercise throughout the week (American Heart Association, 2017).
Aerobic physical activity is described as, "Exercise with oxygen." During this type of exercise, the
body, more specifically the heart, is working hard to pump oxygenated blood from the heart to the
muscles throughout your body (another name for this type of exercise is cardio–exercise). Specific
examples of aerobic exercise are; cardio machines, walking, jogging, running, swimming, hiking,
and even dancing. The intensity of the exercise depends on how fast and how long the exercise is
consistently maintained over a period of time (Weil, n.d.).
Strength training actives, such as; lifting weights and utilizing muscle–strengthening machines, may
be effective in preventing cardiovascular disease, as well. The American Heart Association
recommends older adults do muscle–strengthening actives at least two times a week (especially for
those individuals who are at a greater genetic disposition for

Humans Have Found Many Different Ways To Communicate...
Humans have found many different ways to communicate throughout time. In the early days of
civilization humans would use hand signals and drawings to communicate with others. As
civilization progressed, so did the methods of communication. This is evident by the number of
languages that are used on planet earth. According to the website infoplease.com there are around
6,500 different languages spoken in the world. This is simply astounding the number of different
languages spoken. However, speaking is not the only way humans communicate. Humans even
sometimes communicate without even knowing. A prime example of this is body language which
some could argue is used every day, by just about everyone on the planet. With this said there is one

The main strength of the Uncertainty Reduction Theory is the simple fact that the theory has been
used and applied for nearly four decades. It is mainly used to gain insight into interpersonal
relationships. In the very beginning of a relationship the Uncertainty Reduction Theory can give
critical incite, however this is also one of the theories weaknesses. Once the relationship is past the
initial interaction, the first time the stranger's meat, the Uncertainty Reduction Theory can no longer
provide insight into the relationship. A second weakness of the Uncertainty Reduction Theory is the
fact that the theory was meanly developed and designed the western culture. However, there are
more and more studies that are beginning to apply the Uncertainty Reduction Theory and look
further into its practical uses outside of western culture. Here is an example of one such study:
"A model of uncertainty reduction theory was tested that was derived from Berger and Calabrese 's
(1975) theory of initial interactions and recent extensions of the theory (e.g., Berger, 1979; Berger &
Bradac, 1982) across three relationships (acquaintances, friends, and dates) in three cultures: Japan,
Korea, and the United States. The model was tested using LISREL and found to be a reasonable fit
to the data for all three relationships in all three cultures. The percentage of variance explained in

Hispanic and Latino Spirituality Throughout our life's each day we communicate with each other
through the exchange of information. Our verbal and nonverbal communication skills are used to
process this information. Speaking, listening, and body language are our ability to understand the
meaning of communication that we develop throughout our lives. This brings me to understand why
we develop new things every day and learn the reasons for different things. However, in the

However, as Americans we are able to turn to what we have learned growing up. Once we are born
our family, siblings, and our own culture influence us. We are bought up with certain beliefs and
traditions. However, I do think that culture does influences how people are permitted to be
expressed and how they are perceived. As for social experience people react to different experience
in different ways. If someone has been in a certain situation I believe they learn from that
experience. This brings me to the certain unfairness, stereotypes, and myths about Hispanic/Latino
culture. While growing up we experience some of these types of situations. When we think about a
Hispanic/Latino person we think about tamales, tacos, rice and beans which is a stereotype.
However, Susie Jans–Thomas wrote Beyond Tamales, Tacos, and Our Southern Neighbors:
Exploring Latino Culture in Child and Young Adult Literature to show that there is more to them
then just those expressions. I believe we have all experienced or witnessed racism, power abuse, and
felt lost in one point of our lives. This just shows that we need to try to work harder and together
more.
Therefore, I do believe I am a better person today because I came from such a loving family. This is
something that families are missing throughout the world and that is love, religion, and quality time
with loved ones. To me this is why the world is becoming the way it is because there are so many

Ghetto Made Me Do It by Francis Flaherty Essay
After reading the essay "The Ghetto Made Me Do It" written by Francis Flaherty, I thought
differently about the situation than I had before hearing both sides of this tragic story. My
perspective changed from being bias toward Felicia Morgan to feeling a sense of sympathy for her.
However, regardless of what defense there is to this story, it does not change how ruthless and tragic
this homicide actually was.
It is said by Felicia Morgan's attorney, Robin Shellow, that the environment in which Morgan grew
up in was somewhat comparable to a "war zone." In some ways I agree with Shellow and believe
that there are similarities between the two. Although the attorney makes it clear that there is a
difference between the ghetto and a war zone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all of the information that I have gathered about this case, it seems that I still agree with the
result of the trial. I do believe that the jury made the right decision and that Morgan should be
placed in prison and not allowed parole for an extended period of time. However, I do believe that
everyone should get a second chance in life and that people can change and this is where I also
agree with the final verdict in that Morgan should be able to gain parole or freedom from prison
after ten to fifteen years if she has her college degree.
When I think about the case of Felicia Morgan, unlike many other cases I feel a sense of justice and
a humane way of trial. In my opinion, the court ruled a verdict that was both ethical and punishable
towards Morgan, but a fair amount of both. What Felicia Morgan did was tragic and brutal, no one
should ever forget that, but she is human just like everyone else and even the worst of people
sometimes deserve a second chance.
A fair trial is hard to come by nowadays seeing how our justice system is built, but this is definitely
one of the few. Felicia Morgan should consider herself a lucky woman because there are many who
have made similar mistakes as her and have not been given the same fairness as punishment. As a
result, a defendant's lawyer plays a big part of a fair trial

Sunset Song Analysis
Sunset Song is one of the most revered and acclaimed Scottish novels of the 20th century, dealing
with subjects such as sexuality or violence in a way that was not common at the time. The novel
focuses on the life of Chris Guthrie, a young woman living in rural Scotland who goes through
many adversities related to family, farming life, and love. War is an important background factor to
take into account as well.
This question raises various issues, in terms of the plot itself, and how Chris evolves throughout the
story, and how her opinion and feelings about the land change. She is seemingly uninterested in the
family's way of living at the beginning of the novel, although she always seems more compliant than
her brother, who revolts several time against his father's authority, and eventually leaves the farm in
favour of Argentina, accompanied by his young bride Molly. We must, however, take into
consideration the way the novel does not start with the Guthrie's story, but rather with a tale of
myths, and battles. This seems to give the reader a sense of wonder, as if they were reading about
something almost mystical, divine. This impression quickly changes, as they are introduced to this
family, who's members are unhappy, some to the extreme of deciding on taking their life and others'.
Such is the example of Chris' mother who, after being raped by her own husband, and bearing two
more unwanted children, is driven by her own misery to take her life and the twins'. This seems to
present the reader with the harsh reality the characters face, even with the poetic narrative softening
things up.
Throughout the course of the novel, the narrative voice seems to be even more mystical when it is
focused on Scotland, especially Aberdeenshire, and the land itself, making the reader feel as though
they were there, contemplating something magical. Once again, the events that take place bring
them back into this cruel reality where they find the father trying to convince Chris to lay with him,
but eventually fails, since he is bedridden because of a stroke he had. Here and many other times it
is obvious the main character struggles with the idea of Kinraddie, and the farm, but this is usually
related to family issues.

Increasing Scarcity Of Water And The Many Ways
The information in this report are facts about the increasing scarcity of water and the many ways
that we are trying to combat this. The problem we are trying to solve with this information is to get
the general public aware of what is happening and get them to help. We went about solving this
problem with new prototype technology. The result of this new technology varies with temperature
and humidity of the region and at the moment cannot be used in areas with high air pollution but is
being worked on. The implications of this technology are very great if further research is done to
improve the effectiveness. In conclusion it may be able to help decrease the massive amount of
people going without clean water or people that go without altogether. In the world today 650
million people don't have access to clean and safe water, 2.3 billion people don't have access to
adequate sanitation which is 1 out of 3 of the world's population, and 315 thousand children under
five die every year from diarrheal diseases caused by unclean water and substandard or nonexistent
sanitation which is 900 children per day. The world is made up of nearly 70 percent water, but only
2.5 percent of that water is fresh water. Out of that 2.5 percent only about 1 percent of that is easily
accessible which is most trapped in glaciers and snowfields. In total, only about 7 one thousandth of
a percent of the water is used for the 7.4 billion people now on this earth. Developing countries

embedded in their information systems. If this changes and has a negative effect on the overall

within an organization is the head of the conflict line. So many perspectives, conflicts and

The Many Ways Of Dealing With Life
As an individual, I have always seen the world somewhat differently than the average person in a
community such as mine. Those around me, as devout orthodox Jews, tend to view those different
than them as strange and odd – often times even judging them negatively. Personally, I see this as a
large problem, since as much as we would like to separate ourselves from those different than us to
avoid negative influences, we do live in a society that includes a multitude of religions, cultures, and
ways of life. I believe wholeheartedly that each person can learn an immense amount from everyone
they come across, and by continuing our habit of blocking off most of society with negative words,
we are cutting ourselves off from a lifetime of growth and possibility. Yes, others may be different
than us. They may have different views, different beliefs, and different ways of dealing with life.
But like us, they are human – with hopes, dreams, heartbreaks, desires, and passions. They each
have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom – from the two–year–old boy to the ninety–seven year old
grandma. And in my humble opinion, I strongly believe that respect should be given to everyone, no
matter their race, religion, or station in life. I must credit my father ZTL and my mother, who both
raised me to see the good in others and respect every human being I come across. They taught me
that just because I had my beliefs, did not mean I had a right to judge others for believing
differently. The

Identity Is Something We Search Essay
Identity
Identity is something we search for, something we want to find out about ourselves. We want to
know what we are here for and what's our purpose. Identity is the way one sees themselves and our
identity is all we have that 's why we protect it and always are trying to make ours better than the
others. I believe college is a time where we find our identity, maybe we have an idea on what it is
going to be and sometimes it takes us many years to figure it out. In Daniel Marks experience his
identity is going to take awhile for him to find if he doesn 't change his ways. Daniels "before" was
very rough, he was in trouble a lot. He said he felt like a failure to his father's standards. He enjoys
partying very much, this has lead to him being a poor student with a GPA below a 2.0. His study
habits are very poor but he is planning on going to college. His advisor told him he would fail out if
he didn 't change his ways. After hearing all about daniel 's story I would categorize him into the
"Diffusion" area. This is because he is just simply doesn 't care, he lacks motivation and is only
doing enough to barely get by. I can avoid all of these things by sticking to the things I've been
doing and to adjust and use the strategies we have learned in U100. In Monica 's story you hear
about a lot of the things she was going through in her first semester so it 's pretty relatable. She tells

She is comforting Macbeth and making him stronger. Lady Macbeth's character has to be the strong
one between the two of them. If she was weak like Macbeth they would of never have gone through
with the murder. Lady Macbeth is the backbone of the pair, Macbeth by himself is a weak character.
By seducing Macbeth, she helps him cope with the murder and they get away with it, all because of
Lady Macbeth's strong willpower and ability to seduce Macbeth. Lady Macbeth forces strength
upon Macbeth, who is too scared to go back to the scene of crime and have to see what he has done,
" Ill go no more; I am afraid to think what I have done; Look on't again I dare not. "
(Macbeth, II, II, 51– 52 ). She shows care and compassion when Macbeth returns to the bedchamber
after killing the king. He is stunned by the act that he has committed and Lady Macbeth, with the
tenderness of a mother, calms her husband. The good Lady wasn't always comforting Macbeth
though.
Before the murder Lady Macbeth did nothing but bash Macbeth. She emasculated him a lot. She
accuses him of lacking manhood. The good Lady tells Macbeth that she thought he was a man when
he was talking about the idea of killing Duncan, but now she thinks he is less than a man because

Slavery in the North and South of the US Essay
So many people wanted slaves, especially in the South. They had more farms than they could handle
on their own. Northern owners wanted them because they would have to do less work. Very few
owners treated their slaves nicely and paid them to do work around the house. They would not be
treated like family but would get treated a whole lot better than your "typical slave." Those kinds of
circumstances occurred more in the Northern states than the Southern states.
Most slaves lost contact with their family members when they were captured to be sold and shipped
off to somewhere the families had no idea of. Slaves in the North would try their best to keep in
contact with their aunts, uncles, and children, but unfortunately for the most ... Show more content

The South had ways to "keep slaves under control." They would keep them in groups of three or
four. The owners woulds also not let them go anywhere after dark and if they wanted to leave during
the day they would have to have a signed paper by their owner saying they can do whatever it is that
they want to do. They would try so hard to just escape to the North and if they could to Canada.
Reason is, they were technically "free," but at the same time they had no rights but they were not as
mistreated in the north as they were in the south. Also it was illegal to marry slaves in the South so
that was also a reason they would leave so they could marry.
Slaves in the North and South were terrified of the thought of being sold to some other owner. All of
the slaves, no matter the gender, had to strip down all the way in front of everyone and would have
to stand there naked to be investigated by the people that wanted to buy them. The people selling the
slaves knew buyers would examine the bodies of the slaves they wanted to buy therefore were
sneaky about covering up any scars and bruises the slaves had by puting make up on them to cover
them up, and make them appear stronger than they were. The people that went for this to buy them
were looking for men that were strong and that looked young. They wanted attractive women for
themselves or in general so they would set them up with a male to have babies. They then could

Critical Thinking Has Been Defined Many Ways Throughout
Critical thinking has been defined many ways throughout time. The definition I chose to go with
was from Edward Glaser who defines critical thinking as "The ability to think critically, as
conceived in this volume, involves three things: (1) an attitude of being disposed to consider in a
thoughtful way the problems and subjects that come within the range of one 's experiences, (2)
knowledge of the methods of logical inquiry and reasoning, and (3) some skill in applying those
methods." (Glaser 1941) Critical thinking is are ability to gather knowledge and put it to use.
Critical thinking is used every day for example, problem solving, gathering, and storing information,
to comprehend and use language accurately, interpreting data, and to ... Show more content on

Maybe the activity would have gone up either way and people are making a big deal about the
immigrants for no reason. While this is possible I believe it to be untrue. This is one of many
examples we have in our everyday news stories. We need to remain vigilant and can locate false
information to remain informed about what to believe.
Another idea in critical thinking is about assuming a single explanation. The main point of this is
that your idea of a trait may be true most of the time, but sometimes the behavior could have less
obvious causes. You see in this that self enhancement drives overly favorable self–appraisals. For
example, to be polite someone may say "Have you lost weight?" when they know you may have
even gained weight. This could overly boost your ego in thinking that you look way better than you
do. So, try to look past the obvious ideas and think about different less obvious thoughts. For
example, the government is most likely hiding things from us to protect us. They might tell us that a
terrorist has been captured when in fact they really aren't to boost our moral and make us more into
a war.
The last idea explained today is critical thinking Surveys vs Experiments. This article on page 243
of the book talks about how "Michael" Deng died during a fraternity event while being hazed. This
got researchers thinking why put yourself through this torcher just to join a group. To

The Importance Of Stereotyping In Society
A stereotype is a way to determine where a person or thing falls in the realm of life. Stereotyping is
a natural part of life and it actually does have a meaning in reality. It allows a person's mind to work
properly and for the human brain to be able to recognize, process, store and then recall the
information when needed. Stereotyping is a big problem in society. It labels a person about how they
should live or act according to their sex, race, and personality. In all work forces it is a law to not
discriminate against employees or other people in the facility. It can also be used in racial, political,
religious, and many more ways. Stereotyping in a racial way is judging people by the color of their
skin, where they come from, or the language they speak. Stereotyping can be a big issue in many
professional businesses and environments. It can affect people's lives and the way of doing things.
Stereotypes also are creating a false idea of how people interact with other individuals. Many of the
stereotypes children receive are through media. People should be careful when stereotyping or just
keep their thoughts to themselves. Stereotyping will never go away because it helps humans to
process information about things and people.

Summary Of The Many Ways Of Being Smart
In the article The Many Ways of Being Smart, Literacy Scholar Mike Rose argues that people had
distorted the meaning of smart, and applies it unmodified to technology, whereas this " intellectual
abundance" promoted under the worship of technology enforces us to forget the essence of smart.
He reminds us that it is important to remember that smart has many meanings besides assisted by
computer technology. I like the way Rose uses the distortion of the meaning of smart to allude we
desperately want to find the perfect solution for every problem we have, therefore, leaving too much
trust in technology. However, I think he leaves a sense of lament toward using technology, which is

This is also the reason he reminds us to remember the many meaning of smart. Because we have put
so much faith in technology that sometimes induces people to regard technology as the god. He uses
the example of the smart classroom as a prove. Although a classroom with technology can be useful,
it is undeniable that expertise in education create all these technologies. I agree that technology is
invented to serve human. Technologies are machines which follow the program imputed by human.
Therefore, they are none similar to human. Because we created computer technology and making
sure they function well but not itself, use a word that depicts human activities to describe machines
is not logical in the first place. Even though there are supercomputers like the Deep Blue and
computer programs like Alphago that beat human chess players by calculating and predicting human

Immigrants As A Better Life For Their Future
All people are diverse and come from many backgrounds. Most people settled here in America as an
immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for opportunities. Most people came
here with nothing but bringing along their cultures, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they
can be shared amongst others in groups and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation
there was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest
status. They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of
their backgrounds or their parent's background statuses were very much similar whether they want
to admit it or not. It's how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes
and treated differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle,
whether they like it or not, they'll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making
new friends. Adapting to lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always
harder for immigrants to unite with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they
judge them as outcasts by what they eat, what they wear and especially how one communicates.
High culture/elites think they are higher ranking so therefore there is always miscommunication.
They think they are way better and wouldn't want except one another because of status or flaws. In

The Importance Of Success In Grit
In her book entitled Grit, Angela Duckworth contends that "grit," the "power of passion and
perseverance," is the key to success. She maintains that grit can be measured, learned, and
eventually obtained. Unfortunately, what Duckworth fails to take into account are the limits of grit.
For people who have grown up with less privilege than herself, grit, as she sees it, is not necessarily
instilled from birth like it is for so many others, and grit is of little use without opportunity.
Although Duckworth is not wrong in putting emphasis on hard work rather than talent, she does so
in a way that dismisses other pivotal factors that play a crucial role in determining success. Grit is
cultivated, but from the very beginning. In his book, Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell argues, contrary to
Duckworth, that success is about much more than rugged individualism. One point he makes is that
success depends greatly on what he calls "concerted cultivation," the way in which we are taught
growing up to interact with other people. Although Duckworth has a chapter on "Parenting for Grit,"
it proves less feasible when the parents don't themselves have grit to give. As The New Yorker's
David Denby explains, "...prosperous children who are read to, talked to, and educated in many
ways by their caregivers come to school way ahead of poor children, especially children who grow
up amid noise, violence, and unending stress and uncertainty." Privileged children grow up learning
how to be assertive and get what they want–they learn grit. But in Duckworth's words, "...no matter
the domain, the highly successful had a kind of ferocious determination that played out in two ways.
First, these exemplars were usually resilient and hardworking. Second, they knew in a very, very
deep way what they wanted" (pg. 8). She goes on to show the ways in which these very successful
have achieved their goals, but fails to recognize that unlike her exemplars, the 14.5% of people in
the United States living below the poverty line have not been taught how interact in a gritty way. As
Denby contends, "...Duckworth's work regarding poor children becomes irrelevant or even
unwittingly abrasive. In effect, the children are being held responsible for their

Eyewitness Identification
Eyewitness Identification may be more reliable than we believe, if they are handled and assessed
correctly. Eyewitness testimonies are often used by law enforcement officers to identify suspects
and play a huge role in getting convictions. If witnesses identify the wrong person, an innocent man
could be punished for something they had no involvement in. There are many theories to explain
why witnesses may identify the wrong person as the perpetrator of a crime. The different ways we
retrieve memories affects what we remember. Other theories have to deal with how lineups or photo
arrays are displayed to the witness and the effect they have on the result. All of the different theories

There are many different ways our memory might fail us. Encoding failure occurs when our brain
fails to realize all the information around us and can only store what we are most focused on at the
time. This causes people to lose information that could have beneficial because they didn't focus on
one single thing. This problem only gets worse with age. Storage decay can also affect the reliability
of our memories. Even if the information does get encoded into memory, there is still a chance it
could be forgotten over time. There is a forgetting curve that shows how quickly people can forget
events. Another way our memories may be clouded could be by the misinformation effect. The
misinformation effect can change the way people remember things. If people hear someone tell a
story about an event that happened, they could take that information and believe it's their own
information they experienced first hand. These memory failures cause for controversy over whether
or not eyewitness testimony should be used in court. These issues are enough to cause reasonable
doubt when trying to convict a person off of an eyewitness account. I do believe their are ways for
law enforcement agencies to avoid these issues to strengthen the reliability of their eyewitnesses'

Intervention Plans Can Impact Health Care In Many Ways,
Intervention plans can impact health care in many ways, but successful plans may provide a benefit
to either patients, facilities, or both. Evaluation of an intervention plan is necessary to determine its

the intervention components. Identifying outcomes and tools to measure the data obtained through

In a small study, symptom data was collected through a web application regarding symptoms of
CHF that identified improvement of symptoms through self–management (Dorsch, Farris, Bleske, &
Koelling, 2015). Utilizing the data collected in the telehealth program would provide clinicians with
data on weight, blood pressure, medication use and oxygenation (Appendix A). In the CHF
telehealth intervention, patients provide self–care based on the provider instructions at discharge and
through office visits. Studies have shown that self–management is a major element of CHF
management (Lee, Lennie, Warden, Jacobs–Lawson, & Moser, 2013). Patient–perceived low QOL
is a major predictor of mortality and evaluating the CHF telehealth interventions utilizing qualitative
survey data will help guide any revisions in the plan of care (Hoekstra et al., 2013). The Minnesota
living with heart failure questionnaire (MLHFQ) is a widely used tool in healthcare that assesses the
patient's perception of the effects CHF has on their life (Munyombwe et al., 2014). Monitoring
telehealth data and QOL survey components would provide data on improvement of CHF care both
from a clinical perspective as well as from a patient perspective. Outcomes There are two main

Many Times, Parents And Children Are Affected By The Way
Many times, parents and children are affected by the way they live. The neighborhood they reside in

class of an individual or group. It is often measured as a blend of education, income, and
occupation. SES is relevant to all realms of behavioral and social science, including research,
practice, education, and advocacy. When it comes to children, questions arise how the child is being

that were overly aggressive had relations to children academic outcome, symptoms of depression

43617760 There are many ways that groups of people allocate goods. The most common way to do
this in modern culture is through a market. Markets, as Carruthers and Babb describe it in chapter 1,
are the particular supply and demand of any given good or service that are exchanged for a value of
money with certain given information. As Wright and Best describe in chapter 3, this way of
organizing an economy allows for an effective way to step up an economy. Additionally, it gives the

Whether through their spending policies, taxing policies or lack there of, or days that are considered
holidays the state has great influence. These can sometimes can be seen as a harmful set of actions,
but as Bandelj and Sowers point out in chapter one these acts by the state have a real importance to
how the economy works. The state as noted above takes an important role in managing things that
are not natural. Without the government to regulate these things we not be able to sustain these now
vital and constructive institutions. This state interference in the market, good or bad, has a profound
effect on parts that ripple into the whole of the market. This relationship in the market is on grand
scale, but the social institutional relationship does not always have to be.
The relationships that we have with particular people also greatly affect how we interact with the

they are expected to get a MacBook for school from their family as a parting gift. When someone

A Viable Way of Treating Many Life Threatening Illnesses?
What is Gene Therapy?
Gene therapy is a relatively new concept, it is an experimental technique that uses genes to
theoretically treat and prevent various types of Illnesses/Genetic Disorders such as Haemophilia,
Cancer, Chronic Granulomatous Disorder and Cystic Fibrosis. The process of gene therapy involves
the use of a Viral Vector (Most Common Form) other forms of delivery which are non–viral include
the injection of naked DNA, sonoporation and magnetofection.
Diagram 1 .1 Shows us how an unmodified Virus under normal conditions work.
How It Works?
The viruses DNA is removed and replaced by the needed DNA that corresponds to the specific
required gene, which is then to be inserted into a human body, once its inside, the cell's gene–
reading machinery uses the information in the gene to build RNA and protein molecules, these
proteins can therefore carry out their specific jobs within the cell(s).
Diagram 1.2 Shows How to Create a Viral Vector.
Gene Therapy sounds very appealing, a quick fix that could solve all our problems but is isn't so,
many disorders can potentially be treated by gene therapy, but for others this approach wouldn't

I Liked More Was The One From Gretel Ehrlich
The essay I liked more was the one from Gretel Ehrlich I liked this essay because when she was
telling her story she was focusing on only one place. This essay was very different than Annie
Dillard I say this because when Annie was talking she didn't focus on only one place in her essay
she was focusing on many different places. I personally think that the essay from Gretel Ehrich was
the best. Why I think is the best is because when I was reading it I felt like I can picture what she
was talking about in my head. As I was readying this essay I felt like I can place myself in the place
she was describing for example when she was taking about being at the farm and other things she
made reference too. This essay was just really calm, essay to fallow, it was clear, and as I as
readying it I felt like I was connected to it. this is why I liked this essay more than the one from
Annie Dillard when I was readying the essay from Annie I just could focus on what she was talking
about because she would take her story to multiple places. She would be talking about one thing and
then she would all the sudden change it and this is what I didn't like about her essay because it was
just really hard to fallow with all the multiple places she was referring too. Another thing I think like
about it I that when it was telling her story she would repeat herself. This is what made it hard for
me to understand, it's just crazy and goes on and on. This is why I choose the essay from Gretel.

As the robe simultaneously conceals and reveals, it blends nicely into the lower part of her torso.
Her body is proportioned smoothly, with no areas of obvious fault or imperfection. I think having
those sensual characteristics adds to her overall beauty.
This sculpture is comprised of marble, and due to its large size it was easier for me to develop an
impression about the piece because I can focus on specific parts in more detail. To understand the
piece, a very visual and detailed perspective is needed. Judging by the way the thighs are
represented, it appears as though she is striking a contrapposto pose, which makes her appear static.
She has most of her weight shifted on her left leg, but not all of it The focal point of this piece I
believe is her robe. It skillfully falls down her left side, while leaving other parts exposed, drawing
the main attention of this piece. Few different types of shapes are displayed, except the shape of her
legs and the form of the robe. The physical texture was smooth throughout the entire piece, partly
due to the material it is made of. There is only this one texture, as her robe and body parts all feel
the same.

1771. Afterwards, it was purchased by a wealthy English collector, who displayed it in his home.

Essay Similarities Between Night And The Book Night
Introduction Imagine that your family is uprooted from where they have been living for your whole

and starvation. This scenario was very real in both the novel Night and the movie "Life is beautiful".
Furthermore, these two stories from the holocaust are similar and different in many ways. They are
both from the same point of view which is from the son, the development of Elie and Joshua
throughout the story, the characterization of the father, and God's provisions in there lives while they

Blake is able to capture the event and all of its emotion. The narrator starts by saying, "When my
mother died I was very young, And my father sold me..." Instantly, the readers feel sympathy for the
narrator, knowing his childhood has not been the kindest. The almost perfect word choice allows
readers to seep into the mind of the narrator as he continues his story. He says, "So your chimneys I
sweep and in soot I sleep" (Blake 706). In the next stanza, the narrator describes a fellow chimney
sweeper, Tom Dacre, and his heavenly dream.
Written in a rhythmic and song–like format helps this poem flow throughout its entirety. Each line
consists of patterns which help keep the poem simple as readers begin to understand its meaning.
William Blake uses rhythm and sound to create a poem easy to comprehend. This is present as the
narrator describes one of the many characters. He says "Hush, Tom! never mind it, for when your
head 's bare, You know that the soot cannot spoil your white hair" (706). This line shows the simple
structure and uses rhyming to keep the reader interested through the remainder of the poem. An

In Films And Television, There Are Many Different Ways
In films and television, there are many different ways the filmmakers choose to create their films to
be hegemonic or counter–hegemonic. For an example, the movie The Blind Side is created to
remove stereotypes focused around race and economic class. In many movies and television shows,
writers challenge stereotypes and use counter–hegemony to remove stereotypes around social
groups like race and economic class.
There are many articles that talk about race and social class in movies. One article is, "How The
Blind Side Blinds Us: Post racism and the American Dream" by Jeffery Bineham. This article
mentions how the movie fights against racism. The author of this article explains how this film uses
counter–hegemony to display public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the movie The Blind Side there are many different ways that the film writers challenge
hegemonic beliefs. For example, one of the main characters in the movie is an upper class southern
white woman. The women adopted a low class large black man, which represents the removal of
stereotypes around upper–class southerners being racists towards blacks. The women's friends
challenged her with stereotypes comments. The friends comment saying that she should not be
taking in any black men into her house. They say he is going to steal her belongs to sell them
because he is a poor black man, which reinforces the stereotypes around poor black men. There are
racial and economic class stereotypes in the south because of the southern history of slavery. The
woman removes the stereotypes with her acts in the movie, which shows how the movie represents
counter–hegemony.
The Blind Side represents counter–hegemony in many different ways. Following the example
previously stated the filmmakers remove the stereotype of "black people are only good at sports". In
the movie, the high–class, white women adopted the low–class black man. The man was recruited to
play football by the high school coach, and then by colleges. He was a large black male, which fits
the stereotype of black football players. The movie shows the stereotype representing that he is only
good at football and not academics. His grades were very low, and he was told he wouldn't get into
college. He proved this

Why A Company Can Go Through Social Media
Many reasons why a company can go through so many changes throughout the years are due to the
change of the market. With industries such as publishing, the changes can become endless.
Publishers try and find ways to get their ideas out into such a market for consumers to enjoy.
Publishing companies started out small however as time continued so did the demand in products.
The demand grew so much that the markets became so big so fast. Pushing for an idea that
marketing today is more dependent on publishing content through social media. Marketing and
publishing companies have continued to change with time, because technology changes too.
Marketing now has the most important role in publishing because it aims for a target audience and ...

Marketing and publishing can continue to date back together when trying to promote ideas. The
marketer had to find someone to enjoy the ideas that the publisher wanted to promote. The early
changes and develops of publishing are some of the only changes that continued to grow into todays
markets
Using your brain is something we all do day in and day out. This is a normal way of thinking about
how we see the world. We tend to use what we see around us as reminders of what we want, or need
to do. When publishers go about publishing a new book or new product they try and find someone
who can use the information they are providing. Whether it is a true story or something strictly made
up. We as humans have tendencies to use what we read and hear to promote some sort of desire we
want. We can have many different ways of explaining what we see and what we gain. One of the
best examples is from a "Derren Browns subliminal advertising". This is an actual video that shows
two well–known advertisers from the from MBA firm being had by what they already knew. It
explains how what we as humans see just driving down the street can have the biggest impact on
what we draw. The two men were asked to draw an idea for a new poster for something they had
never heard of. However when they were done the man showed them what he thought they would of
drawn and it was almost identical. You ask why is this? Well marketing is designed to weave such
patterns and designs into

Dorothea Lange Developed the Way for Many of Today's...
Dorothea Lange was born May 26, 1895 in Hoboken, New Jersey, was an American photojournalist
and documentary photographer. Her most recognizable work was from the "Depression–era for the
Farm Security Administration (FSA)" (Dorothea). With her photographs it brought an open eye to
the nation about how bad the Great Depression really was. Her work in these areas of photography
develop the way we see photojournalism today. Lange was born, Dorothea Margaretta Nutzhorn to
parents Heinrich Nutzhorn and Johanna. Her father, Heinrich Nutzhorn, "worked as a lawyer, but
also had experiences working in local businesses, politics, and religious institutions, her mother,
Johanna was a house wife. Both parents "were proponents of education and culture, and exposed
both Dorothea and her brother Martin to literature and the creative arts" (The Art Story). When she
was twelve she dropped her last name and started using her mother's when her father abandoned
them. This abandonment was the "most traumatizing moment" (Dorothea Lange) in her life, even
when she had gotten polio when she was seven which caused her to have a permanent limp and her
right knee weakened, which she used long skirts to hide it. "It
[formed...guided...instructed...helped...] and humiliated me" (Sidebar). Lange was heavily
"influenced by visits to Arnold Genthe" (The Collection). Lange was not a very well student and
when she "finished high school she was barely able to pass" in order to graduate and her mother

Benefit Of Community Service

  • 1. Benefit Of Community Service Benefits of Community Service Community service contributes to a community in the same way that quarterbacks, wide receivers, and offensive linemen contribute to a football team. Without people helping out, there wouldn't be a way to score a touchdown or win a game. It is the same way in helping out a community. The more people there are helping out, more homes would be built, more mouths would be fed, and more people would have a happy life. Some people take for granted the clothes they have on their backs and the table they get to eat dinner at with their family. There are plenty of people in communities that do not have a home to come to every night. There are plenty of people that do not have the clothes, food, or money they need to survive. People are not the only thing that needs help in the community. Animal shelters are also one of many that could always use an extra hand. Recycling and picking up trash is another way to help out. One of the best ways to contribute to the community is volunteering and contributing time to helping others. Studies show that community service contributes to the emotional, mental, and physical well–being of people at any age. The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) says in the year 2013, 138 million American adults volunteered. To break it down, the CNCS found the following information: adults between the ages of 35–44 had the highest volunteer rate, adults between the ages 45–54 had the second highest, and one in ... • 5. How Literacy Is Used As A Communication Method When it comes to understanding literacy I learned that reading, along with writing is used as a communication method. However, there 's so much more to it than just obtaining the knowledge of knowing how to read and write. It all truly depends on the way you use your skills in literature. Literacy is different to each and every person, depending on who they are as a person. It can consist of your culture, pronunciation, the way you dress, as well as all of your actions. That being said, personally literature means not only knowing how to read and write, but the way we approach it as an individual. For example, we are judged by the way we speak, look, act, where we come from, as well as how we were raised. Which is all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My sister always spoke "proper english" is what I will not call it, but politely and she understood how to express herself and speak her mind in a polite manner. I was taught manners by my parents, greetings were something you could not just pass by. "good morning" was to be said every morning to everyone in the house along with a kiss otherwise it was a form of disrespect. A hug was followed with every goodbye. Even though you could have been upset with a family member you were required to forgive them and let the past stay in the past. Mainly because you never know if you are going to see them tomorrow, living with regret is something no one wants. My father always told me, since I was always a stubborn child, "forgiveness is not for the other person it is for you." At that moment I realized he was right, the only person I was hurting all along was myself. Nevertheless, I have had a time where I had to teach myself something that not only had disadvantages but some advantages as well. Learning how to think before I spoke, Speaking your mind and the truths was always something I believed in. The Many Ways Virtual Communities Impact Our World Offline Children now are so captivated with their new tablets and what new features are coming out, one does not see what is happening right before their eyes. Truthfully, social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are some virtual community sites capture today's society. With all this new technology people who have anxiety about meeting new people in person have a chance the meet and connect with people online with less pressure. A good example of this is with Google+, it "allows us to create virtual social circles that mimic how we interact in our daily lives" according to author Lee. Even though, these communities online are not real it allows people to make some kind of connection, someone they can communicate with. A formative assessment takes place either during the lesson or before, as a pretest. Formative assessments are used to see where students ' learning is at along the way. A benefit of formative testing is that teachers can see what they should improve on in their lessons to help students learn the content. A drawback is that formative assessments could be seen as "busy work" if they are not created with students learning in mind. Another type of assessment is a summative assessment. Important topics to understand with standardized testing include, normal distribution, percentile rank, and grade equivalent scores. A normal distribution is a bell curve. This is where many scores fall in the middle and fewer fall towards the tails. Percentile rank is a score showing how well you did compared to others. For example, if you are in the 80th percentile, this means that 80% of people 's scores were equal to or below yours. The last concept mentioned is grade equivalent scores. These scores show the average of how people of a certain test scored. It then takes your score and compares it to that average. If you scored above the average, your grade level score will be higher than the grade level you are in. This is a topic to be careful with. Caring can be seen as simply having any feelings about someone or something that are more positive than the feeling of indifference. It can also mean something much more extensive. According to the Oxford Dictionary, being caring means displaying kindness and concern for others (Oxford Dictionaries). The Collins English Thesaurus writes of the word caring being synonymous with words such as compassionate, loving, kindly, warm, soft, sensitive, tender, sympathetic, and responsive (Collins English Thesaurus). As an adjective, Webster Dictionary defines caring as having or displaying warmth or affection, or feeling and exhibiting concern and empathy for others (Webster Dictionary). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is it that makes that person caring? Most textbooks and websites include the word care in their definitions of nursing, but this type of caring can have a very in depth meaning. Providing care can involve simply meeting the physical needs of someone who would be unable to meet those needs on their own, but within nursing, it means much more. It is discussed in the code of ethics put out by the ANA. One Medical–Surgical text put interpretations out on certain aspects of the code and what they mean. The text states: "The nurse practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and unique attributes of every person" (Winland–Brown, J., 2015). To those writing this article, that quote describes some of the most fundamental and ethical obligations of a nurse. Every patient is different, but each one is still treated with respect and compassion. Later in in the article, it mentions the nurse 's responsibility to advocate for their patient. This idea is consistent with the obligation to promote health, provide the best care possible, and keep the patients safe. Being caring is something that is discussed more and more frequently in regards to nursing. These discussions involve more than just the caring aspects of nursing, but also the patient perception of that care. If the process of meeting someone 's physical and health needs is considered caring, would a patient be satisfied with a nurse who met those needs and nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We are bought up with certain beliefs and traditions. However, I do think that culture does influences how people are permitted to be expressed and how they are perceived. As for social experience people react to different experience in different ways. If someone has been in a certain situation I believe they learn from that experience. This brings me to the certain unfairness, stereotypes, and myths about Hispanic/Latino culture. While growing up we experience some of these types of situations. When we think about a Hispanic/Latino person we think about tamales, tacos, rice and beans which is a stereotype. However, Susie Jans–Thomas wrote Beyond Tamales, Tacos, and Our Southern Neighbors: Exploring Latino Culture in Child and Young Adult Literature to show that there is more to them then just those expressions. My perspective changed from being bias toward Felicia Morgan to feeling a sense of sympathy for her. However, regardless of what defense there is to this story, it does not change how ruthless and tragic this homicide actually was. It is said by Felicia Morgan's attorney, Robin Shellow, that the environment in which Morgan grew up in was somewhat comparable to a "war zone." In some ways I agree with Shellow and believe that there are similarities between the two. Although the attorney makes it clear that there is a difference between the ghetto and a war zone ... I do believe that the jury made the right decision and that Morgan should be placed in prison and not allowed parole for an extended period of time. However, I do believe that everyone should get a second chance in life and that people can change and this is where I also agree with the final verdict in that Morgan should be able to gain parole or freedom from prison after ten to fifteen years if she has her college degree. When I think about the case of Felicia Morgan, unlike many other cases I feel a sense of justice and a humane way of trial. In my opinion, the court ruled a verdict that was both ethical and punishable towards Morgan, but a fair amount of both. What Felicia Morgan did was tragic and brutal, no one should ever forget that, but she is human just like everyone else and even the worst of people sometimes deserve a second chance. A fair trial is hard to come by nowadays seeing how our justice system is built, but this is definitely one of the few. Sunset Song Analysis Sunset Song is one of the most revered and acclaimed Scottish novels of the 20th century, dealing with subjects such as sexuality or violence in a way that was not common at the time. The novel focuses on the life of Chris Guthrie, a young woman living in rural Scotland who goes through many adversities related to family, farming life, and love. War is an important background factor to take into account as well. This question raises various issues, in terms of the plot itself, and how Chris evolves throughout the story, and how her opinion and feelings about the land change. She is seemingly uninterested in the family's way of living at the beginning of the novel, although she always seems more compliant than her brother, who revolts several time against his father's authority, and eventually leaves the farm in favour of Argentina, accompanied by his young bride Molly. We must, however, take into consideration the way the novel does not start with the Guthrie's story, but rather with a tale of myths, and battles. This seems to give the reader a sense of wonder, as if they were reading about something almost mystical, divine. This impression quickly changes, as they are introduced to this family, who's members are unhappy, some to the extreme of deciding on taking their life and others'. Such is the example of Chris' mother who, after being raped by her own husband, and bearing two more unwanted children, is driven by her own misery to take her life and the twins'. This seems to present the reader with the harsh reality the characters face, even with the poetic narrative softening things up. Throughout the course of the novel, the narrative voice seems to be even more mystical when it is focused on Scotland, especially Aberdeenshire, and the land itself, making the reader feel as though they were there, contemplating something magical. Once again, the events that take place bring them back into this cruel reality where they find the father trying to convince Chris to lay with him, but eventually fails, since he is bedridden because of a stroke he had. Here and many other times it is obvious the main character struggles with the idea of Kinraddie, and the farm, but this is usually related to family issues. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We went about solving this problem with new prototype technology. The result of this new technology varies with temperature and humidity of the region and at the moment cannot be used in areas with high air pollution but is being worked on. The implications of this technology are very great if further research is done to improve the effectiveness. Those around me, as devout orthodox Jews, tend to view those different than them as strange and odd – often times even judging them negatively. Personally, I see this as a large problem, since as much as we would like to separate ourselves from those different than us to avoid negative influences, we do live in a society that includes a multitude of religions, cultures, and ways of life. I believe wholeheartedly that each person can learn an immense amount from everyone they come across, and by continuing our habit of blocking off most of society with negative words, we are cutting ourselves off from a lifetime of growth and possibility. Yes, others may be different than us. They may have different views, different beliefs, and different ways of dealing with life. While this is possible I believe it to be untrue. This is one of many examples we have in our everyday news stories. We need to remain vigilant and can locate false information to remain informed about what to believe. Another idea in critical thinking is about assuming a single explanation. The main point of this is that your idea of a trait may be true most of the time, but sometimes the behavior could have less obvious causes. You see in this that self enhancement drives overly favorable self–appraisals. For example, to be polite someone may say "Have you lost weight?" when they know you may have even gained weight. This could overly boost your ego in thinking that you look way better than you do. So, try to look past the obvious ideas and think about different less obvious thoughts. They might tell us that a terrorist has been captured when in fact they really aren't to boost our moral and make us more into a war. Summary Of The Many Ways Of Being Smart In the article The Many Ways of Being Smart, Literacy Scholar Mike Rose argues that people had distorted the meaning of smart, and applies it unmodified to technology, whereas this " intellectual abundance" promoted under the worship of technology enforces us to forget the essence of smart. He reminds us that it is important to remember that smart has many meanings besides assisted by computer technology. I like the way Rose uses the distortion of the meaning of smart to allude we desperately want to find the perfect solution for every problem we have, therefore, leaving too much trust in technology. I agree that technology is invented to serve human. Technologies are machines which follow the program imputed by human. Therefore, they are none similar to human. Because we created computer technology and making sure they function well but not itself, use a word that depicts human activities to describe machines is not logical in the first place. Most people settled here in America as an immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for opportunities. Most people came here with nothing but bringing along their cultures, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they can be shared amongst others in groups and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation there was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest status. They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of their backgrounds or their parent's background statuses were very much similar whether they want to admit it or not. It's how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes and treated differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle, whether they like it or not, they'll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making new friends. Adapting to lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always harder for immigrants to unite with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they judge them as outcasts by what they eat, what they wear and especially how one communicates. High culture/elites think they are higher ranking so therefore there is always miscommunication. They think they are way better and wouldn't want except one another because of status or flaws. • 47. The Importance Of Success In Grit In her book entitled Grit, Angela Duckworth contends that "grit," the "power of passion and perseverance," is the key to success. She maintains that grit can be measured, learned, and eventually obtained. Unfortunately, what Duckworth fails to take into account are the limits of grit. For people who have grown up with less privilege than herself, grit, as she sees it, is not necessarily instilled from birth like it is for so many others, and grit is of little use without opportunity. Although Duckworth is not wrong in putting emphasis on hard work rather than talent, she does so in a way that dismisses other pivotal factors that play a crucial role in determining success. Grit is cultivated, but from the very beginning. In his book, Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell argues, contrary to Duckworth, that success is about much more than rugged individualism. One point he makes is that success depends greatly on what he calls "concerted cultivation," the way in which we are taught growing up to interact with other people. Although Duckworth has a chapter on "Parenting for Grit," it proves less feasible when the parents don't themselves have grit to give. As The New Yorker's David Denby explains, "...prosperous children who are read to, talked to, and educated in many ways by their caregivers come to school way ahead of poor children, especially children who grow up amid noise, violence, and unending stress and uncertainty." Privileged children grow up learning how to be assertive and get what they want–they learn grit. But in Duckworth's words, "...no matter the domain, the highly successful had a kind of ferocious determination that played out in two ways. First, these exemplars were usually resilient and hardworking. Second, they knew in a very, very deep way what they wanted" (pg. 8). She goes on to show the ways in which these very successful have achieved their goals, but fails to recognize that unlike her exemplars, the 14.5% of people in the United States living below the poverty line have not been taught how interact in a gritty way. As Denby contends, "...Duckworth's work regarding poor children becomes irrelevant or even unwittingly abrasive. In effect, the children are being held responsible for their ... Eyewitness testimonies are often used by law enforcement officers to identify suspects and play a huge role in getting convictions. If witnesses identify the wrong person, an innocent man could be punished for something they had no involvement in. There are many theories to explain why witnesses may identify the wrong person as the perpetrator of a crime. The different ways we retrieve memories affects what we remember. Storage decay can also affect the reliability of our memories. Even if the information does get encoded into memory, there is still a chance it could be forgotten over time. There is a forgetting curve that shows how quickly people can forget events. Another way our memories may be clouded could be by the misinformation effect. The misinformation effect can change the way people remember things. If people hear someone tell a story about an event that happened, they could take that information and believe it's their own information they experienced first hand. These memory failures cause for controversy over whether or not eyewitness testimony should be used in court. Gene therapy is a relatively new concept, it is an experimental technique that uses genes to theoretically treat and prevent various types of Illnesses/Genetic Disorders such as Haemophilia, Cancer, Chronic Granulomatous Disorder and Cystic Fibrosis. I Liked More Was The One From Gretel Ehrlich The essay I liked more was the one from Gretel Ehrlich I liked this essay because when she was telling her story she was focusing on only one place. This essay was very different than Annie Dillard I say this because when Annie was talking she didn't focus on only one place in her essay she was focusing on many different places. I personally think that the essay from Gretel Ehrich was the best. Why I think is the best is because when I was reading it I felt like I can picture what she was talking about in my head. As I was readying this essay I felt like I can place myself in the place she was describing for example when she was taking about being at the farm and other things she made reference too. This essay was just really calm, essay to fallow, it was clear, and as I as readying it I felt like I was connected to it. this is why I liked this essay more than the one from Annie Dillard when I was readying the essay from Annie I just could focus on what she was talking about because she would take her story to multiple places. She would be talking about one thing and then she would all the sudden change it and this is what I didn't like about her essay because it was just really hard to fallow with all the multiple places she was referring too.
