Theoretical Perspectives On Lifespan Development
Emily Dickinson (n.d.) once said, "The brain is wider than the sky". This quote was made evident by
the text written on the six theoretical perspectives on life span development. These perspectives
include psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, contextual and evolutionary. The writing
prompt gave one the image of a sweet 12–year–old girl in the seventh grade having difficulties with
math. This exercise will allow one to dive deep into the depth of the perspectives and the limitations
to explain Alice's behavior. Robert Feldman (2014) describes the psychodynamic perspective as
behavior that is driven by, "inner forces, memories, and conflicts". The ability to succeed is pounded
into humans since the day they are born. However, it is just as easy to give in to defeat. Alice's inner

Socially speaking the mother most likely mentioned to Alice that she wasn't great at math when she
was young as too. In Alice's social world it was made known that math was difficult and that
studying for something challenging was futile. Finally, Feldman suggests that the evolutionary
perspective is "the theory that seeks to identify behavior that is a result of our genetic inheritance
from our ancestors". This perspective would be noted as the fact that the mother had struggled in
math as well. While the ability to add and subtract most likely isn't encoded into one's DNA the
mother daughter thought processes could be similar. In conclusion, the idea that Emily Dickinson
(n.d) noted about the brain being wider than the sky was made evident during this analysis. The six
theoretical perspectives of development allow one to pick apart why Alice, the 12–year–old girl,
may have struggled with her math. In doing so one may gain a greater understanding of not only
Alice, but themselves as

Theoretical Perspectives In Coach Carter
Theoretical Perspectives in "Coach Carter" Issues in the home, the school, and the area have set a
critical allotment of American adolescents at danger. Young people considered at hazard are the
individuals who participate in risky behavior, for example, drug abuse, liquor use, and developed
sexuality. A technical term "At–risk youths" (Siegel & Welsh, 2011, p. 3) is defined as that
undeveloped people who are exceedingly exposed to the unenthusiastic results of school failure,
substance abuse, and premature sexuality. This term is not directly related to the movie, Coach

understand about the latent trait theory. His character is represented in a destructive light toward the
start of the film. He is extremely disrespectful to numerous of his close players and Carter. He is
tough and hot–tempered. A decent sample of his behavior would be on carter's first day. Once five
minutes of Carter being trainer he moves into a battle with him. He vocally mistreats the Coach and
even endeavors to damage him. Carter reacts by pushing him to a headlock and hitting him against
wall and requests him to leave the gymnasium. Timo furiously exits out of the gym shouting, 'This
Ain't Over!', and promises never to return over to basketball. He retreats in the city trafficking and
offering drugs with his cousin Renny. As times of the film go by, Timo's wrongful behaviors could
be understood and fixed by Carter's rules and sincere heart. Due to the fact that the latent trait theory
incorporates with rational choice theory (Siegel & Welsh, 2011, p. 138), it can be used to explain
about Timo's situations from his early life, why he

Deskilling makes the employees easily replaceable, in turn decreasing the price of labour allowing
owners to benefit. Scientific management is commonly applied to modern day call centres, for
instance, supervisory checks on recorded phone conversations. This allows methods to be routine
and standardized as implemented by the management. (Robbins & Barnwell, 2006). This leads to
the corrosion of the thought process thus resulting in deskilling and making workers easily
replaceable.
Resistance is the outcome of conflict of interests between entities. The modernist perspective
assumes that everyone shares the same objective and reality (French, 2005). In general, modernist
views resistance as a process that hinders workplace efficiency and ultimately blurs organisational
goals (Crowther & Green, 2008). Resistance can come in many forms of conflict such as overt and
covert acts, individual or collective. Modernist views resistance displayed greatly affects the
organisational productivity, because the deliberate worsening of work performance will be
unfavourable to organisational goals. Critical theorists believe resistance is the result of conflict and
it is essential for the deliverance of the dominated, thus fulfilling human ethics and realizing

Theoretical Perspectives In Sociology
Theoretical Perspectives in Sociology In the world of sociology there are many different ways that
humans interact with the world. Although we are all human beings, we do not always see the world
the same way that others do. Even though not many are aware of the different ways they can see the
world, there are three sociological perspectives. Using structural functionalism, the conflict theory,
and symbolic interactionism one will be able to decide which view best represents the way they see
this world. When asked about my perspective on the world, I view it using the conflict theory due to
the examples that society gives us based on events that happen frequently. Even though all three of
these theories are socially correct, the conflict theory defines my view of the world more than
structural functionalism and symbolic interaction. According to sociologists, when viewing the
world in a sociologically way, there are three different views that humans may share in common at
times. The different functions that views present are structural functionalism, the conflict theory, and
symbolic interaction. Which each of these beliefs consistent of differences, humans may not always
share common beliefs. Structural functionalism is formed using a macro–level theory that sees
society as something complete in which units make up the many parts which all work together to
form their purposes and functions. Some of the main structures included in structural functionalism
include religion,

Three Major Theoretical Perspectives in Sociology
The three major theoretical perspectives in Sociology are Symbolic Interactionism, Functionalism,
and Conflict Theory. Symbolic Interactionism is basically the panorama of collective behavior of
humans. Collective behavior can be by your words, actions, and other concepts that give abstract
meanings to the behaviors that you do in your everyday life. Functionalism are the features of a
society that serve a defined purpose and it is also essential for a long lasting, functioning society.
The every lasting dispute over limited resources in a society is also known as Conflict Theory.
French essayist Emmanuel–Joseph Sieyès was the person who came up with the term "Sociology,"
according to chapter 1.5 of the Sociology book. Scientist are able to make claims using empirical
evidence according to chapter 2 of the Sociology book because, "they ask questions, research
existing sources, formulate a hypothesis, design and conduct a study, draw conclusions, and then
report the results."
Symbolic means serving as a symbol or a meaning of something. As said in chapter one of our
Sociology books Symbolic Interactionism is " One–to–one interactions and communications."
Symbolic Interactionism contributes of things we do in our everyday lives. Such as, the way we
communicate and how we communicate with others. As said in the response given in our online
lecture, "they study face–to–face interaction, examining how people make sense out of

Theoretical Perspective And Key Concepts
This portion of the paper will explore the theoretical perspective and key concepts first the classical
organization theory, authored by Courtney Howard, followed by the theoretical perspective and key
concepts of the ecological systems theory authored by Gretchen Rydin. As we have read in previous
chapters of our text an organization can be defined as "social entities that are goal directed as
deliberately structured and coordinated activity systems and are linked to the external environment"
(Kirst–Ashman, 2014, p.160). In summary, an organization such as the Columbia Lighthouse for the
Blind is formed by individuals with a specified goal of servicing members of the community who
are visually impaired. Through these programs and services provided by the Columbia Lighthouse
for the Blind, individuals who are visually impaired are able to integrate into the community by
means of employment and education. Among the many organizational theories, which help us
examine an organization such as The Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind and its functions, classical
organizational theory is the most well known. Kirst–Ashman emphasizes "that specifically designed,
formal structure and a consistent, rigid organizational network employees are most important in
having an organization run well and achieve its goal" (as cited in Griffin & Moorhead,2012). Based
on a rigid structure which, focuses on the productivity and sufficiency of completing tasks, the
classical organization theory

6 Theoretical Perspectives In Psychology
According to (Pastorino, E. & Doyle–Portillo, 2012), psychology is defined as "the scientific study
of behavior and mental processes." (pg. 3). Scientific study is done by using the scientific method.
The Scientific method is defined as "a systematic process used by psychologists for testing
hypotheses about behavior." Behavior is the way a person responses to an experience. This can be a
physical or an emotional response. The mental processes of people are studied by psychologists to
try and understand the mental reasoning behind the behavior of a person does after an experience. In
many parts of the world people were working in the area of psychology but hadn't realized that it
was something different. Until 1879, people thought of psychology ... Show more content on

This means that theories are studied repeatedly. The theories psychologists develop are always based
on research. Theories can be changed as new information is discovered. Common sense is
something that doesn't require in depth studies with the scientific method. The six modern
theoretical perspectives are evolutionary, cognitive, psychodynamic, behavioral, sociocultural, and
humanistic. Evolutionary perspective believes in natural selection. This means that traits that will
help you survive will continue to onto new generations where other traits may no longer be passed
on. How the human mind process the information and influences behaviors is what the cognitive
perspective focuses on. Psychodynamic is focused on how unconscious mental processes and
desires can effect behavior. External effects, punishment and reward system, on behavior is studied
in the behavioral perspective. Sociocultural is about how the community as a whole can effect on
individual, for good or bad. Lastly, humanistic is about your own freewill. The choices you make
based on how you feel or think about yourself. The eclectic approach is when psychologist use not
just one perspective to study human behavior. It can make studies more complex but the eclectic
approach gives a more complete view on human

Group Theoretical Perspective Analysis
The main argument of the group theoretical perspective deals with groups of people and social
classes, as well as the conflict that arises between the groups. This conflict occurs because of
inequality of wealth and power within a society and creates different groups. In the Graham article,
the society was composed of different groups, the white students, who were seen as elite over the
few black students. They often did not interact with each other, except for Larry. Larry did this as a
way to climb the ladder to achieve a better social status. He created the life he wanted, while always
wearing the outfit of his elite peers, associating with the honor, white students. He wanted the best
of the best, which is why he chose Princeton, because

Theoretical Perspectives Of Sociological Analysis
Sociology is the study of human society and relationships. In sociology there are a couple different
theoretical perspectives. The structural– functional perspective states that there are independent
facets of society that work together to function as a whole. An example would be paying taxes on
things like Social security and disability. The taxes are paid so when it is needed it the government
can turn around and begin paying the individuals back. Functionalism prides itself on consistency to
keep society positive and they shy away from change or what they see as they negative.
On the other hand, conflict perspective is not seen as such a good thing, this perspective focuses on
the negative. Conflict perspective fights against society and

Theoretical Perspective On Society
Theoretical Perspectives
There are a few theories that support the way the world is viewed, whether is be society working
together, against each other, or through communication each of them have a complete explanation as
to why they are in existence. The way someone stands in their worldview will sway them to pick the
theory they think best correlates as to what is going on in society today. This meaning everyone has
their own opinion of life and what is going on, someone who has been affected more than another
couple lean towards the theory that most goes with their life. Deciding between the three; society as
a whole, society conflicting with each other, or society communication on a smaller scale, I decided
the theory that best goes with my view of the world today.
One of the ways to view the world sociologically is by Structural functionalism. This theory views
society as one complete unit with everyone working together to do their role. Everyone relies on
each other to make sure everyone does their role to have the society run smoothly. Since everything
is looked at as a whole the parts are studied as to how the contribute as a complete thing to the
society. This type of theory also relies on norms, values, and beliefs; this keeps the society running
smoothly. "Emile Durkheim (1858–1917), one of the founding fathers of sociology, was a structural
functionalist", (Claerbaut, ch. 2). The main structures in this type of society are Politics, religion,
education, family

Theoretical Perspectives Used By Sociologists
There are five theoretical perspectives used by sociologists in their research: symbolic interaction,
rational choice, structural functionalism, social conflict, and feminist. Actions of the family
members in Family Dinner Date video can be explained by each of these theories.
According to the symbolic interaction theory, people behave and communicate in a particular group
in a proper way, the way that is suitable for that group. Moreover, they do not only communicate
and act in response to the environment, but play an important role in a process of creating and
changing their own environments and their own groups. Based on social communication and
performing functions, people act in ways that appropriate for any given situation. In the video,
members of the family carry out their roles in ways that they have learned and practiced over years.
Daughter decorates a table for the dinner, mother helps her in the kitchen, son gets ready by
finishing his homework, and father comes home and looks forward to the dinner. They already know
what to expect from each other and use symbols–their actions and conversations in order to
communicate with each other. As it was mentioned above, symbolic theory explains that they not
only react to the current environment, such as preparation for dinner, but also create their own
environment; in this setting– it is creating a positive atmosphere and excitement before and during
dinner. Everyone is focused on this event and does everything possible

Languages Of Sex And Theoretical Perspectives
This weeks readings were "The Languages of Sex" by Jeffrey Weeks and "Theoretical Perspectives"
by Steven Seidman. Both readings and in class discussion brought up some really interesting points.
Tuesday we had an interesting in class discussion on the idea of if we were to travel to a culture
where ankles were sexualized rather than say breasts. How we become aware that some body parts
are sexualized. This discussion was so interesting because it became aware how weird it is that our
society has certain body parts that are sexualized. This carried on into Thursday's discussion about
how both authors touched on the increased emphases that humans have a natural drive or need for
sex and what happens when he described sex has a natural desire.

Theoretical Perspectives The social experiences of three four–year–old young children with
developmental disabilities present the main focus of the paper. Due to the shift to the social model of
disability, the research perspective has changed from determining pathology to discovering ways to
improve people's lives. Childhood has also been viewed differently, emphasizing children as free
agents. However, children with developmental disabilities have been largely missed out both by
changes. Childhood is a social construct, with children having unique perspective on their lives.

Examples Of Theoretical Perspective On Family
Theoretical Perspectives of the Family
There are multiple lenses in which we can view the family unit. To gain a clearer understanding of
our families we develop theories to explain certain phenomenon within the family. These theoretical
perspectives include the psychodynamic theory of families, family stress and coping perspective,
family resilience perspective and the family systems perspective. Throughout the course of learning
about the family life cycle, I've examined these perspectives of family in relation to my own. I've
noticed elements within each perspective that parallel my own personal theory regarding my family.
One perspective that I did not thoroughly examine was the theory of resilience in the family.
Resilience in the family is typically measured when a family undergoes a major crisis, such as the
loss of a loved one or unemployment (Patterson, 2002a). In terms of research, there is some
disagreement as to whether family resilience should be measured in terms of how capable is the
family in overcoming such stressors, or measured in terms of the process which is most commonly
studied (Patterson, 2002b). For the purposes of the family genogram, I did not find it helpful to
study this theory in relation to my own family. Instead, I focused on the family perspective of
coping with stress.
From a young age, my parents stressed the importance of viewing our family as a team. When one
person is facing difficulty, everyone is responsible for making sure the

Eight Theoretical Perspectives
There are eight theoretical perspectives in contemporary psychology. Any topic in psychology has
many approaches that have a variety of perspectives for each that is given. Starting with the
biological perspective, it is noted that physiology has played a major role in psychology. The organ
systems such as the nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, and genetics are greatly
emphasized in studying physical bases of human and animal behavior. Neuroscience more
specifically studies the nervous system, particularly the brain. The next theoretical perspective is the
cognitive perspective, which is a relatively modern approach. It focuses on the important role of
mental processes in how people process and remember information, develop language,

Theoretical Perspectives are different ways people can view reality and it helps families understand
why family practices and patterns are the way they are. The eight family perspectives are family
ecology, family development, structure–functionalism, the interactionist perspective, exchange
theory, family systems theory, conflict and feminist theory, and biosocial perspectives. The family
may cause its members to be involved in arguments and other forms of conflict so these theoretical
perspectives make it easier to understand and process the information in each of the eight
perspectives. Family ecology is a perspective that explores how a family influences and also is

In this theory people act to increase their advantages and decrease their disadvantages in a situation.
The exchange theory is a micro theory and it focuses on an individual, family, or group of people.
Families need to realize that things are in their best interests when they make compromises, when
they do they will see improvements.
The family systems theory is used when the family as a whole is more than the sum of its parts. This
theory is a micro theory because this theory is used to study a group, individual, and family or team.
With a family systems theory the family is understood when the family is broken down into different
parts, like a computer. In order to fix what is broken the family has to go to a therapist and figure out
what needs to be repaired. The family system theory function is to consider dysfunctions and
functions of an organization or in this case, a

Theoretical Perspectives On Crime
The first theoretical perspectives on crime to be recognized originated around 1764 according to
Siegel (2010), with the classical perspective. Founded by Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham, the
perspective holds that society can deter crime when the consequences of crime are absolute, harsh,
and quickly administered. They felt that people choose to commit crime after they considered the
positive and negative aspects of the crime, and found that the positives outweigh the consequences.
Modern classical theory is called choice theory. This perspective was the major influence on our
penal system for the next two hundred years, until late into the 19th century, giving way to
positivism and the scientific method of studying human behavior and society. It is from this
positivism noted by August Comte, considered the founder of sociology, it is in this last stage that
our current classifications of theoretical perspectives on crime have emerged. These theories,
grouped into four categories, which are; sociological theories, biological theories, psychological
theories, and social–psychological theories, represent different causes of crime. (Siegel, 2010)The

Theoretical Perspectives Of Bullying
It is worth noting that whenever the term bullying is surfaces, many people visualize it as an
aggressive behavior that leads to unwanted power imbalance among school–going children.
However, professionals define bullying as the use of superior strength in order for one to achieve an
individual's desire or want from another individual (Gomes, 2007). A closer look at the bullying
concept reveals that, bullies bully their victims for intimidation purposes, to exercise authority and
superiority, and to boost their self–esteem feeling. Actions that accompany bullying include; making

unique and vital theoretical paradigms for explaining how bullying is influenced by the society. As
the research shows, teachers and parents who deserve to play a major role in helping their children
deal with the issue of bullying are less involved and this is the reason intervention programs have
not been able to completely or by a large percentage tame the vice that over and above injuring the

Theoretical perspectives are important to understand in order to understand different people's beliefs
regarding how they perceive the world. The Functionalist perspective speaks about how society
maintains stability through interconnected parts. The Conflict perspective looks at the current way
the world looks, and looks to see if power and resources are distributed properly. On the other hand,
the Feminist perspective looks at the role that gender plays in our society, and fights for equality
between men and women. Lastly, the Internationalist perspective works to understand society as one
unit. Personally, the theoretical perspective that I support of these four would be the Feminist
perspective. I favour this perspective because it

Theoretical Perspective Of Realism Essay
The Theoretical Perspective
In order to understand the theoretical perspective, which best explains policy formulation by several
world leaders we must first take several factors into consideration. Policies are formed in order to
improve the country, need, and for several countries greed. Many policies are based on the
perceptions of life, liberties, and care to progress as a nation. In an attempt to understand why
policies have been made, understanding the person or people who make them makes theoretical
perspective understandable. There are three theoretical perspectives in which world leaders identify
themselves with one theory or all, based in the decision they must make. To better understand the
international politics comparison of the three theoretical approaches are conducted. Realism has
been viewed as the dominant perspective in International Relation theory for many years. Realist
view survival as the means to "create and enforce laws to protect citizens" (6). The assumption in
Realism can be made that "the rules of the international system are dictated by anarchy; in this
sense, anarchy is perceived as a "lack of central government to enforce rules" and protect states" (6).
Realism can also be assumed as the theory that used by nation leaders to rule and govern with an
"iron Fist". Russia's President Vladimir Putin, takes a Realism approach to policy formulation. Mr.
Putin is viewed as man that takes action, with "his swift military interventions" (3). Mr.

Three Major Theoretical Perspectives
There are three major types of theoretical perspective approaches functionalist, conflict, and
interactionist (Schaefer, 2015). Each one of these approaches explores an individual's view on
society and analyzes social change. The functionalist's perspective highlights how the society is
coordinated to maintain its strength (Schaefer, 2015). According to Schaefer (2015), the
functionalist theory was established from a Harvard University sociologist named Talcott Parsons.
Eventually Parsons theory was passed on to a German sociologist Niklas Luhmann who viewed that
"if an aspect of social life does not contribute to society's survivability" it creates a social change
and will not be passed on to the next generation (Schaefer, 2015). As a functionalist ... Show more

16). Interactionists observe at the micro scale as opposed to the functionalist and conflict views; this
makes it easier to understand or learn the other perspectives macro interpretation (Schaefer, 2015).
Using symbolic interactionism (human beings are viewed as living in a world of meaningful
objects), nonverbal communication, or face–to–face interaction individuals are able to shape their
own social domain (Schaefer, 2015). Interactionists describe social order through the imitation of
communication with others and the everyday social behavior amongst one another (Schaefer, 2015).
Social change is reflected upon by a persons social position or how communicate is changed
(Schaefer, 2015). A good example of symbolic interactionism is the reality TV show Jersey Shore.
The two male friends Pauly D and Vinny have special bond between each other known bromance,
which is a non–sexual and non–gay relationship between two people of the same sex. Thus showing
on TV to others that it is ok to show affection towards your best friend of the same sex and not be

intensively competitive economy and their organisational culture such as workplace efficiency and
diligence thus resulting in a huge number of workers perpetually working overtime, causing an
imbalance in their work life. In this case, workers are incapable to escape the hegemonies that are
powerful, namely the management staff in the organisation.
Modernists promote the rationale of managerial control because they view the members' different
interests as a problem that interferes with organisational goals and strategies. (Bolman & Deal,
2008) states that control is the process of taking the necessary corrective or preventive actions to
ensure that organisation objectives and missions are met as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Therefore, modernist theorists sought mechanisms such as cybernetic and bureaucratic control for
their employees in order for organisation interests to be met and self–interest to be minimized
(Hatch & Cunliffe, 2006).
When organisations apply cybernetic theory, it explains how their executives align individual goals
and organisational control using performance evaluation, resource allocation and through reward
and feedbacks mechanisms (Hatch & Cunliffe, 2006). They further stated that positive deviations

Theoretical Perspectives In Social Work
In the professional field of Social Work, there are many terminologies that individuals outside of
this group may not understand. During the process of assessing a problem in a family, there are
different theoretical perspectives that helps social workers understand different aspects of family
situations. There are eight theoretical perspectives that helps social workers understand family's
dynamic and situations. These theoretical perspectives are; system perspective, conflict perspective,
exchange and choice perspective, social constructionist perspective, psychodynamic perspective,
developmental perspective, social behavior perspective and humanistic perspective.
System perspective see's human behaviors as the outcome of interactions within and among social
systems of interrelated parts. These social systems of interrelated parts consist of people within the
family, friends, school and work. System perspectives can be understood as the subsystem of larger
systems, where each system has its unique identity but they are all interdependent. From a system
perspective, behaviors are influenced from the past which are learnt from within the family and
other social systems. Within a system perspective, there are smaller systems that a Social Worker
may consider for a more holistic view. This is done by considering the role the physical and social
environment has on a person's behavior as well as protective and risk factors that influences positive
and negative outcomes.

Theoretical Perspectives In Sociology
Catherine Mumford Soc–102 09/17/17 Efua Akoma Understanding "Theoretical Perspectives in
Sociology" Sociologically you can break the way we view this world down into three major
categories. Those categories include structural functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic
interactionism. These terms may seem intimidating when you first see them but they are fairly easy
to understand. Let's take a step back and understand what a theory is before we jump into the
explanations of the three sociological viewpoints. A theory, according to the text is a set of ideas that
tries to explain the known facts of a subject in a way that almost everyone can understand. A way to
test a theory is to determine whether it explains all known facts in a sensible and reasonable way.
According to the text, structural functionalism is a macro–theory. Now let's keep in mind what a
theory is and continue. Structural functionalism views society as a complete unit, just as you can
view the human body as one complete unit or organism. The human body may have many small
intricate aspects of it such as organ and cells but it uses all those small parts to function as a
complete human body. This theory views society in the same way, it has many small parts called
structures but works as a whole. The term structures can be broken down into something even
smaller and they have labeled this role. Roles are performed by people who occupy them, the
structures work together to accomplish a greater goal. A great

Which Bashar al–Assad Syria's president has allowed Russia to keep there in return for protection
and good trade relationships. This is where the civil war in Syria comes into play, if Assad loses
control of Syria; then Russia would lose control of its Tartus naval base. Russia wouldn't be
involved in Syria's conflicts if it didn't affect how powerful they are as a country. With Tartus being
Russia's only base in the Mediterranean, it is obvious that they want to keep that presence there, so
they don't lose what influence they have in that region of the world. America, Russia and China have
the top three militaries in the world and if Russia loses control of Tartus they become the only
country of these three to not have some military base in the Mediterranean. This is why Russia is
fighting so hard to keep Assad in office, because they don't want to lose that power. Another
example of Realism is President Obama interest in the United Kingdom possibly separating the
European Union. While holding a press conference in London with UK's Prime Minister James
Cameron, President Obama spoke about his interest in the UK leaving the EU. While the president
did state that he believes it is in the UK's best interest to stay in the EU, the president also mentioned
that the UK staying also benefits America as well. The EU is one of America's most prominent
trading partners and if the UK leaves the EU this would drastically change the dynamic of trades

Theoretical Perspective Of Immigration
ns (Family preference,2017).
The theoretical Perspective that is best able to understand immigrants and the role of immigrants in
a society is Structural Functionalism. Structural Functionalism explains society as a structure with
interrelated parts that work to maintain stability.(Durkheim,1893). Structural Functionalism looks at
society as a whole through the function of its various elements such as traditions norms and
institutions (Subedi, 2017). Social Institutions in general provide many important functions for our
society (Mooney, Knox, & Schacht, 2007). The family for example provides the role of nurturing
and socializing children while education allows society to gain and pass down knowledge and skills
(Mooney, Knox, & Schacht, 2007).

The Theoretical Perspectives Of Sociology
Symbolic interactionism is the first of the three theoretical perspectives in Sociology. This avenue of
examining sociological factors looks at more personal interactions than the other two perspectives.
Sociologist observe patterns and behaviors of these smaller interactions to define, or redefine, the
use and evolution of symbols in society. Some sociologist see this approach as being too focused on
one person's view and take on society rather than trying to understand society as a functioning
whole (Turner, "Symbolic Interaction Theory"). One example of symbolic interactionism put forth
by Erving Goffman (1974) uses Roger, an engineer, as an example. Even though he and his parents
believe that Roger is an amazing engineer, their perspective would not take into account that Roger's
boss found his skills to be insufficient and fired him. Without combining these two perspectives, that
of Roger and his parents and of his boss, there is not a complete understanding of Roger and his
skills, or lack there of. The following two perspectives in Sociology examine society at a larger
scale. The second theoretical perspective in Sociology is functional analysis. Functional analysis is
used to identify and define relationships between different aspects of society. These relationships are
determined to be either functional, which is beneficial to society, or dysfunctional, which is not
beneficial. The two previous labels are then broken down further and actions can be deemed

Theoretical Perspective A treatment protocol for 300.01 (F41.0) Panic Disorder and 301.6 (F60.7)
Dependent Personality Disorder is cognitive behavioral therapy. It may benefit the client to change
and challenge her thinking, which could improve her emotional and mental health by achieving
peace (reducing her panic disorder symptoms) and increasing her independence. Deb's panic
disorder symptoms (excessive trembling, shaking, shortness of breath, chest pain and dizziness) and
her dependent personality symptoms (having trouble making decisions, has difficulty expressing
disagreement with others, fears of being left alone and how she urgently seeks another relationship)
make her a good candidate for cognitive behavioral therapy.

associated with being more independent. Next, I will assist the client in developing a list of her
positive attributes and accomplishments. Finally, I will also assign the client to institute a ritual of

Theoretical Perspectives Of Abortion
The Three Theoretical Perspectives on Abortion
Abortion has been a highly debated topic for many years. Until 1973, when abortion was legalized
in the U.S., women were obtaining very dangerous abortions that often killed them in the process.
Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is "right." There
are pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives;
Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. This essay explains what the
three theoretical perspectives are and how they view the social issue of abortion.
Structural Functionalism states that everything in society serves a purpose, whether it is positive or
negative. Structuralists look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the years, more people have become pro–choice because of the many circumstances under
which a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro–Life and Pro–Choice supporters are almost
50/50 in the U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut down
Planned Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot afford to see
another physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health care. If this business
shuts down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a doctor if they think they
are pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc. While these people will have no
way of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals will still be able to afford going to
another doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle/upper class would have less
unwanted babies, allowing them to push off having a child until they are financially and emotionally
prepared, while the lower class will have higher numbers of unwanted babies because they could not
afford an abortion. It is possible that some type of dialectical model could be created that would
appeal to both groups, but as the conflict theory states, there will always be some disagreement.

Theoretical Perspectives: Television
Introduction
When it comes to family and television shows, there are a lot of different theories that could be used
in showing the theoretical point of view of the family. A healthy family would need to sustain and
create environment which endorses physical and emotional health and psychological happiness for
its members. To achieve this purpose, families will need to recognize how to support, nurture,
encourage, protect, connect, generate structure and boundaries, have fun and work together as a
group. Does a family have to have a certain look and to the television shows depict this certain
look? The response to that could be as diverse as there are families; nevertheless there are shared
features that can be originated in various types of families. With said, this essay will discuss four
different shows the depict a family.
Cosby Show Functional Family
There is a convinced amount of role fluidity in functional families such as the television show of
The Cosby Show. Vibrant role definitions are recognized as an important characteristic of family
functioning and vital for a family's aptitude to familiarize to situations that are changing. Connected
to the idea of role description is the concern of power. Whoever chooses what and how it is decided
are pointers of the role structure in the family. As mentioned by Minuchin, within healthy families
there is a perfect acknowledgment that the

Theoretical Perspectives
Introduction
Ciccarelli and White (2015) define psychology as the scientific study of mental processes and
behavior. Currently, there is no one perspective to explain mental processes and human behavior.
There are seven perspectives in psychology that help explain how the mind functions. These
perspectives are called theoretical perspectives. Each is different and explains a certain take that
scientists and philosophers have when it comes to explaining human behaviors and mental
processes. There are infinite ways to describe how the mind works.
Major Theoretical Perspectives of Psychology
One perspective is the psychodynamic perspective, also known as the dynamic perspective. This
perspective was based off Sigmund Freud's ideas related to a psychodynamic approach. It values
early childhood experiences and human systematic studies opposed to sex and sexual motives.
Psychodynamic also stresses on the idea that the unconscious mind influences conscious mind
behavior and further focuses more on self–behavior that leads to social behaviors.
Behaviorism is based on early work on by John B. Watson and inspired the Behavioral perspective.
This idea suggested responses to certain behaviors that are crucial to future behaviors. This indicates
certain responses to negative or positive behaviors which could influence a person to repeat that
behavior if they get their desired response. The idea if for a negative behavior to receive a
consequence. An example is putting a

Theoretical Perspective In Psychology
"Without society, there cannot be a self" (132). That said, the way one presents himself should be
examined in terms of the interplay between both the individual and the culture he is immersed in.
Symbolic statements used by the self, for example, are often constrained or shifted to convey a
meaning that aligns with the institution such a self belongs to. With this in mind, I observed the
office doors of the 3rd floor Psychology Department in the Brogden Psychology Building by taking
photos of such doors to examine how such statements can reflect one as an individual and as a
member of a subculture.
Perhaps some of the most fascinating office doors amongst the ones I observed were those covered
in humorous decor. One lab office door in particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, along with deductions made about the individuals, the observed symbolic statements can also
be examined through the lens of the subculture of the department as well. For example, although
there was an overall variety in content, the majority of the office doors observed contained
personal/humorous statements rather than informational/structured ones. Since these statements are
seen by other colleagues of the department, it is reasonable to assume that the department is playful
in nature. Similarly, many of the directions and lab doors were disorganized, exhibiting a uniform
nature of disarray rather than structured organization. Another form of content that was plentiful in
numbers was that of posters concerning mental health itself. This sentiment stresses passion for the
department's subculture itself, showcasing the department's pride in their research and its importance
on society as a whole. This department differs from others I've seen in terms of personality. The
unique additions of humor and passion concerning the department set the psychology department
apart from many

Theoretical Perspectives In Sociology Essay
In Sociology, the theoretical perspectives that exist are ones that deal with how the world is
perceived amongst individuals. In this study, sociologist have been able to identify many theories in
which the world follows to create a type of ordnance. These could involve whether a certain society
is being conducted in a smooth manner or if a society is struggling for order and power within their
people. An example of this is to ask the question, how is it that government keep constant
communication with its citizens? The theoretical perspective of sociology involve 3 different
viewpoints of how a society can function and the relationship between the people within different
societies interact with each other. One of the theoretical perspectives ... Show more content on

This is also a macro–level theory that is totally polar opposite from the previous theory. This theory
can be viewed as a society who sees various groups within it fighting over power, prestige, and
economic resources in order to one up another. The type of society who follows this theory to
function involves much competition towards each other. This theory is one that follows a never
ending cycle because even if a group fails and another one is created, there will always be a
following group who will fight to gain their position. Karl Marx, who was the founder of conflict
theory, believed that society should only function in two classes, the ones who owned businesses
and the others were the ones who worked in those businesses (Claerbaut, 2015). An example, of
conflict theory in the U.S. is women being in constant battle with society in order to gain equal
rights just like men. Women in the past were treated like 2nd class citizens and were not granted the
same rights as men, for example, in the era of Women's suffrage. This movement led by woman
gave them the right to vote in the same manner men were able to vote (Claerbaut, 2015). The belief
in this system involved a limited amount of resources for those who worked under those who were
the owners of the major businesses in the presiding countries who followed this perspective of

The Major Sociological Theoretical Perspectives
The major social institution I choose to discuss through the lens of the three major sociological
theoretical perspectives of (1) structural functionalism, (2) symbolic interactionism, and (3) conflict
theory is religion. (1) Structural Functionalism: Functionalists sees society as a system of parts that
all serve a function. I think that religion serves a few functions for society. First of all, religion
creates this sort of common ground for people to share creating this sense of solidarity amongst
them. Also, religion seems to work as a sort of incentive for people to do good in the world. The
ideas of religions (such as the idea of an afterlife) helps to put purpose into people's lives – it gives
them a reason to live. To me, this perspective

What Are The Three Theoretical Perspectives
Today sociologists divide sociology into three theoretical perspectives: the structural–functional
interactionist perspective, social conflict perspective, and the symbolic interactionist perspective.
Each perspective provides sociologists theoretical paradigms, or a framework to explain how society
and people influence each other. The three perspectives offer a variety of explanations about society,
social forces, and human behavior. All three paradigms are similar and different in unique ways. The
structural–functional perspective originates from the works of Herbert Spencer, Emile Durkheim,
Talcott Parsons, and Roberts Merton. This perspective focuses on the many independent parts of
society that work together as a whole, this interconnectedness is what contributes to the social
stability. This level of theoretical perspective is called micro–sociology. It focuses on the analysis of
society on a larger scale and focuses on how social problems are effected at an institutional level.

issue. The people whom are protesting in both violent and nonviolent ways have conflicting values
with President Trump himself, which is the leading cause of this conflict. Within our society, people
are becoming ruthless as the immigration ban is deemed "unconstitutional, cruel and immoral"
(KOMO Staff). Immigrants cherish their beliefs that they should be able to travel without being
detained, however, Trump disagrees. According to the social conflict perspective, this is normal for
a society for Trump is a member of the upper class and is trying to maintain his power over the
lower classes. The lower classes are resisting by protesting in airports across the nation against

Theoretical Perspectives On Abortion
Abortion is the intention to terminate a human pregnancy. It is usually done during the first 28
weeks of pregnancy. Abortion was first introduced in 1803 which was first passed by Britain; they
called it the "Antiabortion law". In over several countries there is history of women assisting one
another to abort. Until the late 1800's women healers in the U.S. provided abortions and trained
other women to do so, without legal prohibitions. By 1880, unless the abortion was to save the life
of the women due to give birth, it was illegal. Some women are forced to resort to pregnancy due to
their everyday life conditions. Abortion eventually became a crime and a sin for various reasons.

It seems now that it has become a normal thing in life. People voice their opinion which makes the
arguments about this situation stronger. Most statistics that concerns abortion does not give a
satisfactory picture. Abortion will be an everyday argument since people have their own train of
thoughts about it. Some people are for abortion. In some cases where medical emergencies, rape
victims can be minors and enabled disease detection. In some medical emergencies women are
forced to go with abortion. Her life may be at risk if she delivers the baby. In cases of rape, the
victim may be a minor. Their mindset wouldn't be physically or mentally ready to nurture a newborn
baby when they can barely take care of themselves on their own. Also, technology today is so
advanced it can detect diseases amongst babies that aren't even born. Why force a woman to birth a
child they would have to watch suffer daily & nightly? There are arguments against abortion. People
argue that Abortion is a form of murder, other birth control is available and it can result in serious
health complications. Abortion demeans the value of human life which is not a way to treat a baby
that is about to be born. Other birth control methods are available thus avoiding to resort to abortion.
Also, people pay taxes to help people in need while 8/10 times they are assisting the death of an
unborn baby due to the

Theoretical Perspectives On Lifespan Development

  • 1. Theoretical Perspectives On Lifespan Development Emily Dickinson (n.d.) once said, "The brain is wider than the sky". This quote was made evident by the text written on the six theoretical perspectives on life span development. These perspectives include psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, contextual and evolutionary. The writing prompt gave one the image of a sweet 12–year–old girl in the seventh grade having difficulties with math. This exercise will allow one to dive deep into the depth of the perspectives and the limitations to explain Alice's behavior. Robert Feldman (2014) describes the psychodynamic perspective as behavior that is driven by, "inner forces, memories, and conflicts". The ability to succeed is pounded into humans since the day they are born. However, it is just as easy to give in to defeat. Alice's inner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socially speaking the mother most likely mentioned to Alice that she wasn't great at math when she was young as too. In Alice's social world it was made known that math was difficult and that studying for something challenging was futile. Finally, Feldman suggests that the evolutionary perspective is "the theory that seeks to identify behavior that is a result of our genetic inheritance from our ancestors". This perspective would be noted as the fact that the mother had struggled in math as well. While the ability to add and subtract most likely isn't encoded into one's DNA the mother daughter thought processes could be similar. In conclusion, the idea that Emily Dickinson (n.d) noted about the brain being wider than the sky was made evident during this analysis. The six theoretical perspectives of development allow one to pick apart why Alice, the 12–year–old girl, may have struggled with her math. In doing so one may gain a greater understanding of not only Alice, but themselves as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theoretical Perspectives In Coach Carter Theoretical Perspectives in "Coach Carter" Issues in the home, the school, and the area have set a critical allotment of American adolescents at danger. Young people considered at hazard are the individuals who participate in risky behavior, for example, drug abuse, liquor use, and developed sexuality. A technical term "At–risk youths" (Siegel & Welsh, 2011, p. 3) is defined as that undeveloped people who are exceedingly exposed to the unenthusiastic results of school failure, substance abuse, and premature sexuality. This term is not directly related to the movie, Coach Carter (2005), but the audiences recognize those contents about juvenile delinquent activities in the movie and are naturally able to achieve the knowledge about the seriousness ... His character is represented in a destructive light toward the start of the film. He is extremely disrespectful to numerous of his close players and Carter. He is tough and hot–tempered. A decent sample of his behavior would be on carter's first day. Once five minutes of Carter being trainer he moves into a battle with him. He vocally mistreats the Coach and even endeavors to damage him. Carter reacts by pushing him to a headlock and hitting him against wall and requests him to leave the gymnasium. Timo furiously exits out of the gym shouting, 'This Ain't Over!', and promises never to return over to basketball. He retreats in the city trafficking and offering drugs with his cousin Renny. As times of the film go by, Timo's wrongful behaviors could be understood and fixed by Carter's rules and sincere heart. Due to the fact that the latent trait theory incorporates with rational choice theory (Siegel & Welsh, 2011, p. 138), it can be used to explain about Timo's situations from his early life, why he ... Theoretical Perspectives and Research Introduction Modern, post–modern, critical theory and symbolic–interpretive are four different perspectives that provides different ways to analyse and understand organisations, however this essay shall focus on two perspectives, namely the modern and critical theory. These two perspectives have different views on concepts that might appear similar, thus this essay shall examine the different stands they each take. Concepts that can be examined include, power, control and conflict, organisational structures, organisations culture and organisation and its environment. This essay shall closely examine how the two perspectives have different views on the subject on power, control and conflict pertaining to the different ways to analyse and ... Scientific management is commonly applied to modern day call centres, for instance, supervisory checks on recorded phone conversations. This allows methods to be routine and standardized as implemented by the management. (Robbins & Barnwell, 2006). This leads to the corrosion of the thought process thus resulting in deskilling and making workers easily replaceable. Resistance is the outcome of conflict of interests between entities. The modernist perspective assumes that everyone shares the same objective and reality (French, 2005). In general, modernist views resistance as a process that hinders workplace efficiency and ultimately blurs organisational goals (Crowther & Green, 2008). Resistance can come in many forms of conflict such as overt and covert acts, individual or collective. Modernist views resistance displayed greatly affects the organisational productivity, because the deliberate worsening of work performance will be unfavourable to organisational goals. Critical theorists believe resistance is the result of conflict and it is essential for the deliverance of the dominated, thus fulfilling human ethics and realizing ... • 7. Theoretical Perspectives In Sociology Theoretical Perspectives in Sociology In the world of sociology there are many different ways that humans interact with the world. Although we are all human beings, we do not always see the world the same way that others do. Even though not many are aware of the different ways they can see the world, there are three sociological perspectives. Using structural functionalism, the conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism one will be able to decide which view best represents the way they see this world. When asked about my perspective on the world, I view it using the conflict theory due to the examples that society gives us based on events that happen frequently. Even though all three of these theories are socially correct, the conflict theory defines my view of the world more than structural functionalism and symbolic interaction. According to sociologists, when viewing the world in a sociologically way, there are three different views that humans may share in common at times. The different functions that views present are structural functionalism, the conflict theory, and symbolic interaction. Which each of these beliefs consistent of differences, humans may not always share common beliefs. Structural functionalism is formed using a macro–level theory that sees society as something complete in which units make up the many parts which all work together to form their purposes and functions. • 9. Theoretical Perspectives In Sociology Three Major Theoretical Perspectives in Sociology The three major theoretical perspectives in Sociology are Symbolic Interactionism, Functionalism, and Conflict Theory. Symbolic Interactionism is basically the panorama of collective behavior of humans. Collective behavior can be by your words, actions, and other concepts that give abstract meanings to the behaviors that you do in your everyday life. Functionalism are the features of a society that serve a defined purpose and it is also essential for a long lasting, functioning society. The every lasting dispute over limited resources in a society is also known as Conflict Theory. French essayist Emmanuel–Joseph Sieyès was the person who came up with the term "Sociology," according to chapter 1.5 of the Sociology book. Scientist are able to make claims using empirical evidence according to chapter 2 of the Sociology book because, "they ask questions, research existing sources, formulate a hypothesis, design and conduct a study, draw conclusions, and then report the results." Symbolic means serving as a symbol or a meaning of something. As said in chapter one of our Sociology books Symbolic Interactionism is " One–to–one interactions and communications." Symbolic Interactionism contributes of things we do in our everyday lives. Such as, the way we communicate and how we communicate with others. • 11. Theoretical Perspective And Key Concepts This portion of the paper will explore the theoretical perspective and key concepts first the classical organization theory, authored by Courtney Howard, followed by the theoretical perspective and key concepts of the ecological systems theory authored by Gretchen Rydin. As we have read in previous chapters of our text an organization can be defined as "social entities that are goal directed as deliberately structured and coordinated activity systems and are linked to the external environment" (Kirst–Ashman, 2014, p.160). In summary, an organization such as the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind is formed by individuals with a specified goal of servicing members of the community who are visually impaired. Through these programs and services provided by the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, individuals who are visually impaired are able to integrate into the community by means of employment and education. Among the many organizational theories, which help us examine an organization such as The Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind and its functions, classical organizational theory is the most well known. Kirst–Ashman emphasizes "that specifically designed, formal structure and a consistent, rigid organizational network employees are most important in having an organization run well and achieve its goal" (as cited in Griffin & Moorhead,2012). • 13. 6 Theoretical Perspectives In Psychology According to (Pastorino, E. & Doyle–Portillo, 2012), psychology is defined as "the scientific study of behavior and mental processes." (pg. 3). Scientific study is done by using the scientific method. The Scientific method is defined as "a systematic process used by psychologists for testing hypotheses about behavior." Behavior is the way a person responses to an experience. This can be a physical or an emotional response. The mental processes of people are studied by psychologists to try and understand the mental reasoning behind the behavior of a person does after an experience. In many parts of the world people were working in the area of psychology but hadn't realized that it was something different. Until 1879, people thought of psychology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that theories are studied repeatedly. The theories psychologists develop are always based on research. Theories can be changed as new information is discovered. Common sense is something that doesn't require in depth studies with the scientific method. The six modern theoretical perspectives are evolutionary, cognitive, psychodynamic, behavioral, sociocultural, and humanistic. Evolutionary perspective believes in natural selection. This means that traits that will help you survive will continue to onto new generations where other traits may no longer be passed on. How the human mind process the information and influences behaviors is what the cognitive perspective focuses on. Psychodynamic is focused on how unconscious mental processes and desires can effect behavior. External effects, punishment and reward system, on behavior is studied in the behavioral perspective. Sociocultural is about how the community as a whole can effect on individual, for good or bad. Lastly, humanistic is about your own freewill. The choices you make based on how you feel or think about yourself. The eclectic approach is when psychologist use not just one perspective to study human behavior. Group Theoretical Perspective Analysis The main argument of the group theoretical perspective deals with groups of people and social classes, as well as the conflict that arises between the groups. This conflict occurs because of inequality of wealth and power within a society and creates different groups. In the Graham article, the society was composed of different groups, the white students, who were seen as elite over the few black students. They often did not interact with each other, except for Larry. Larry did this as a way to climb the ladder to achieve a better social status. He created the life he wanted, while always wearing the outfit of his elite peers, associating with the honor, white students. • 17. Theoretical Perspectives Of Sociological Analysis Sociology is the study of human society and relationships. In sociology there are a couple different theoretical perspectives. The structural– functional perspective states that there are independent facets of society that work together to function as a whole. An example would be paying taxes on things like Social security and disability. The taxes are paid so when it is needed it the government can turn around and begin paying the individuals back. Functionalism prides itself on consistency to keep society positive and they shy away from change or what they see as they negative. On the other hand, conflict perspective is not seen as such a good thing, this perspective focuses on the negative. Conflict perspective fights against society and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Theoretical Perspective On Society Theoretical Perspectives There are a few theories that support the way the world is viewed, whether is be society working together, against each other, or through communication each of them have a complete explanation as to why they are in existence. The way someone stands in their worldview will sway them to pick the theory they think best correlates as to what is going on in society today. This meaning everyone has their own opinion of life and what is going on, someone who has been affected more than another couple lean towards the theory that most goes with their life. Deciding between the three; society as a whole, society conflicting with each other, or society communication on a smaller scale, I decided the theory that best goes with my view of the world today. One of the ways to view the world sociologically is by Structural functionalism. This theory views society as one complete unit with everyone working together to do their role. Everyone relies on each other to make sure everyone does their role to have the society run smoothly. Since everything is looked at as a whole the parts are studied as to how the contribute as a complete thing to the society. This type of theory also relies on norms, values, and beliefs; this keeps the society running smoothly. "Emile Durkheim (1858–1917), one of the founding fathers of sociology, was a structural functionalist", (Claerbaut, ch. 2). • 21. Theoretical Perspectives Used By Sociologists There are five theoretical perspectives used by sociologists in their research: symbolic interaction, rational choice, structural functionalism, social conflict, and feminist. Actions of the family members in Family Dinner Date video can be explained by each of these theories. According to the symbolic interaction theory, people behave and communicate in a particular group in a proper way, the way that is suitable for that group. Moreover, they do not only communicate and act in response to the environment, but play an important role in a process of creating and changing their own environments and their own groups. Based on social communication and performing functions, people act in ways that appropriate for any given situation. In the video, members of the family carry out their roles in ways that they have learned and practiced over years. Daughter decorates a table for the dinner, mother helps her in the kitchen, son gets ready by finishing his homework, and father comes home and looks forward to the dinner. They already know what to expect from each other and use symbols–their actions and conversations in order to communicate with each other. As it was mentioned above, symbolic theory explains that they not only react to the current environment, such as preparation for dinner, but also create their own environment; in this setting– it is creating a positive atmosphere and excitement before and during dinner. Both readings and in class discussion brought up some really interesting points. Tuesday we had an interesting in class discussion on the idea of if we were to travel to a culture where ankles were sexualized rather than say breasts. How we become aware that some body parts are sexualized. This discussion was so interesting because it became aware how weird it is that our society has certain body parts that are sexualized. This carried on into Thursday's discussion about how both authors touched on the increased emphases that humans have a natural drive or need for sex and what happens when he described sex has a natural desire. ... Due to the shift to the social model of disability, the research perspective has changed from determining pathology to discovering ways to improve people's lives. Childhood has also been viewed differently, emphasizing children as free agents. However, children with developmental disabilities have been largely missed out both by changes. • 27. Examples Of Theoretical Perspective On Family Theoretical Perspectives of the Family There are multiple lenses in which we can view the family unit. To gain a clearer understanding of our families we develop theories to explain certain phenomenon within the family. These theoretical perspectives include the psychodynamic theory of families, family stress and coping perspective, family resilience perspective and the family systems perspective. Throughout the course of learning about the family life cycle, I've examined these perspectives of family in relation to my own. I've noticed elements within each perspective that parallel my own personal theory regarding my family. One perspective that I did not thoroughly examine was the theory of resilience in the family. Resilience in the family is typically measured when a family undergoes a major crisis, such as the loss of a loved one or unemployment (Patterson, 2002a). In terms of research, there is some disagreement as to whether family resilience should be measured in terms of how capable is the family in overcoming such stressors, or measured in terms of the process which is most commonly studied (Patterson, 2002b). For the purposes of the family genogram, I did not find it helpful to study this theory in relation to my own family. Instead, I focused on the family perspective of coping with stress. From a young age, my parents stressed the importance of viewing our family as a team. When one person is facing difficulty, everyone is responsible for making sure the ... Any topic in psychology has many approaches that have a variety of perspectives for each that is given. Starting with the biological perspective, it is noted that physiology has played a major role in psychology. The organ systems such as the nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, and genetics are greatly emphasized in studying physical bases of human and animal behavior. Neuroscience more specifically studies the nervous system, particularly the brain. The next theoretical perspective is the cognitive perspective, which is a relatively modern approach. The eight family perspectives are family ecology, family development, structure–functionalism, the interactionist perspective, exchange theory, family systems theory, conflict and feminist theory, and biosocial perspectives. The family may cause its members to be involved in arguments and other forms of conflict so these theoretical perspectives make it easier to understand and process the information in each of the eight perspectives. In this theory people act to increase their advantages and decrease their disadvantages in a situation. The exchange theory is a micro theory and it focuses on an individual, family, or group of people. The family systems theory is used when the family as a whole is more than the sum of its parts. This theory is a micro theory because this theory is used to study a group, individual, and family or team. With a family systems theory the family is understood when the family is broken down into different parts, like a computer. • 33. Theoretical Perspectives On Crime The first theoretical perspectives on crime to be recognized originated around 1764 according to Siegel (2010), with the classical perspective. Founded by Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham, the perspective holds that society can deter crime when the consequences of crime are absolute, harsh, and quickly administered. They felt that people choose to commit crime after they considered the positive and negative aspects of the crime, and found that the positives outweigh the consequences. Modern classical theory is called choice theory. This perspective was the major influence on our penal system for the next two hundred years, until late into the 19th century, giving way to positivism and the scientific method of studying human behavior and society. It is from this positivism noted by August Comte, considered the founder of sociology, it is in this last stage that our current classifications of theoretical perspectives on crime have emerged. These theories, grouped into four categories, which are; sociological theories, biological theories, psychological theories, and social–psychological theories, represent different causes of crime. Theoretical Perspectives Of Bullying It is worth noting that whenever the term bullying is surfaces, many people visualize it as an aggressive behavior that leads to unwanted power imbalance among school–going children. However, professionals define bullying as the use of superior strength in order for one to achieve an individual's desire or want from another individual (Gomes, 2007). A closer look at the bullying concept reveals that, bullies bully their victims for intimidation purposes, to exercise authority and superiority, and to boost their self–esteem feeling. The Functionalist perspective speaks about how society maintains stability through interconnected parts. The Conflict perspective looks at the current way the world looks, and looks to see if power and resources are distributed properly. On the other hand, the Feminist perspective looks at the role that gender plays in our society, and fights for equality between men and women. • 39. Theoretical Perspective Of Realism Essay The Theoretical Perspective In order to understand the theoretical perspective, which best explains policy formulation by several world leaders we must first take several factors into consideration. Policies are formed in order to improve the country, need, and for several countries greed. Many policies are based on the perceptions of life, liberties, and care to progress as a nation. In an attempt to understand why policies have been made, understanding the person or people who make them makes theoretical perspective understandable. There are three theoretical perspectives in which world leaders identify themselves with one theory or all, based in the decision they must make. To better understand the international politics comparison of the three theoretical approaches are conducted. Realism has been viewed as the dominant perspective in International Relation theory for many years. Realist view survival as the means to "create and enforce laws to protect citizens" (6). The assumption in Realism can be made that "the rules of the international system are dictated by anarchy; in this sense, anarchy is perceived as a "lack of central government to enforce rules" and protect states" (6). Realism can also be assumed as the theory that used by nation leaders to rule and govern with an "iron Fist". Russia's President Vladimir Putin, takes a Realism approach to policy formulation. Mr. Putin is viewed as man that takes action, with "his swift military interventions" (3). Mr. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Three Major Theoretical Perspectives There are three major types of theoretical perspective approaches functionalist, conflict, and interactionist (Schaefer, 2015). Each one of these approaches explores an individual's view on society and analyzes social change. The functionalist's perspective highlights how the society is coordinated to maintain its strength (Schaefer, 2015). According to Schaefer (2015), the functionalist theory was established from a Harvard University sociologist named Talcott Parsons. Eventually Parsons theory was passed on to a German sociologist Niklas Luhmann who viewed that "if an aspect of social life does not contribute to society's survivability" it creates a social change and will not be passed on to the next generation (Schaefer, 2015). Interactionists observe at the micro scale as opposed to the functionalist and conflict views; this makes it easier to understand or learn the other perspectives macro interpretation (Schaefer, 2015). Using symbolic interactionism (human beings are viewed as living in a world of meaningful objects), nonverbal communication, or face–to–face interaction individuals are able to shape their own social domain (Schaefer, 2015). Interactionists describe social order through the imitation of communication with others and the everyday social behavior amongst one another (Schaefer, 2015). Social change is reflected upon by a persons social position or how communicate is changed (Schaefer, 2015). A good example of symbolic interactionism is the reality TV show Jersey Shore. The two male friends Pauly D and Vinny have special bond between each other known bromance, which is a non–sexual and non–gay relationship between two people of the same sex. Thus showing on TV to others that it is ok to show affection towards your best friend of the same sex and not be branded as gay. An example would be the Japanese work–culture, they are powered by pressures from an intensively competitive economy and their organisational culture such as workplace efficiency and diligence thus resulting in a huge number of workers perpetually working overtime, causing an imbalance in their work life. In this case, workers are incapable to escape the hegemonies that are powerful, namely the management staff in the organisation. Modernists promote the rationale of managerial control because they view the members' different interests as a problem that interferes with organisational goals and strategies. (Bolman & Deal, 2008) states that control is the process of taking the necessary corrective or preventive actions to ensure that organisation objectives and missions are met as efficiently and effectively as possible. Therefore, modernist theorists sought mechanisms such as cybernetic and bureaucratic control for their employees in order for organisation interests to be met and self–interest to be minimized (Hatch & Cunliffe, 2006). When organisations apply cybernetic theory, it explains how their executives align individual goals and organisational control using performance evaluation, resource allocation and through reward and feedbacks mechanisms (Hatch & Cunliffe, 2006). • 45. Theoretical Perspectives In Social Work In the professional field of Social Work, there are many terminologies that individuals outside of this group may not understand. During the process of assessing a problem in a family, there are different theoretical perspectives that helps social workers understand different aspects of family situations. There are eight theoretical perspectives that helps social workers understand family's dynamic and situations. These theoretical perspectives are; system perspective, conflict perspective, exchange and choice perspective, social constructionist perspective, psychodynamic perspective, developmental perspective, social behavior perspective and humanistic perspective. System perspective see's human behaviors as the outcome of interactions within and among social systems of interrelated parts. These social systems of interrelated parts consist of people within the family, friends, school and work. System perspectives can be understood as the subsystem of larger systems, where each system has its unique identity but they are all interdependent. From a system perspective, behaviors are influenced from the past which are learnt from within the family and other social systems. Within a system perspective, there are smaller systems that a Social Worker may consider for a more holistic view. This is done by considering the role the physical and social environment has on a person's behavior as well as protective and risk factors that influences positive and negative outcomes. ... • 47. Theoretical Perspectives In Sociology Catherine Mumford Soc–102 09/17/17 Efua Akoma Understanding "Theoretical Perspectives in Sociology" Sociologically you can break the way we view this world down into three major categories. Those categories include structural functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism. These terms may seem intimidating when you first see them but they are fairly easy to understand. Let's take a step back and understand what a theory is before we jump into the explanations of the three sociological viewpoints. A theory, according to the text is a set of ideas that tries to explain the known facts of a subject in a way that almost everyone can understand. A way to test a theory is to determine whether it explains all known facts in a sensible and reasonable way. According to the text, structural functionalism is a macro–theory. Now let's keep in mind what a theory is and continue. Structural functionalism views society as a complete unit, just as you can view the human body as one complete unit or organism. The human body may have many small intricate aspects of it such as organ and cells but it uses all those small parts to function as a complete human body. This theory views society in the same way, it has many small parts called structures but works as a whole. The term structures can be broken down into something even smaller and they have labeled this role. Roles are performed by people who occupy them, the structures work together to accomplish a greater goal. A great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theoretical Perspectives of Race and Ethnicity Theoretical Perspectives of Race and Ethnicity Rebecca Spain ETH/125 April 4th, 2010 Melissa Terrell The three sociological theoretical perspectives of race and ethnicity are the functionalist, conflict, and labeling perspectives. The functionalist perspective is the perspective that shows how parts of society work in a structured manner to keep the survival of a society. The belief is that if a certain part does not contribute to society's survival in an effective manner that it will not move form one generation to the next. (Schaefer, 2006). The conflict perspective is the perspective that society thrives on the conflict and struggles between social groups that compete against one another. The struggles and disputes mainly ... International Relations As A Theoretical Perspective International relations is filled with a lot of different theories and perspectives that try predict and make sense of the events and situations that occurs between countries. While no theory is perfect the best two perspectives to know in order to understand international relations are realism and constructivism. Although constructivism is a good theoretical perspective I believe it ultimately it falls short of giving a true understanding of everything that goes into international relations. In the long run the best theoretical perspective to help someone get a full understanding of international relations is Realism. Realism is a theoretical perspective used to understand international relations between countries. Realist rely on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which Bashar al–Assad Syria's president has allowed Russia to keep there in return for protection and good trade relationships. This is where the civil war in Syria comes into play, if Assad loses control of Syria; then Russia would lose control of its Tartus naval base. Russia wouldn't be involved in Syria's conflicts if it didn't affect how powerful they are as a country. With Tartus being Russia's only base in the Mediterranean, it is obvious that they want to keep that presence there, so they don't lose what influence they have in that region of the world. America, Russia and China have the top three militaries in the world and if Russia loses control of Tartus they become the only country of these three to not have some military base in the Mediterranean. This is why Russia is fighting so hard to keep Assad in office, because they don't want to lose that power. Another example of Realism is President Obama interest in the United Kingdom possibly separating the European Union. While holding a press conference in London with UK's Prime Minister James Cameron, President Obama spoke about his interest in the UK leaving the EU. While the president did state that he believes it is in the UK's best interest to stay in the EU, the president also mentioned that the UK staying also benefits America as well. The theoretical Perspective that is best able to understand immigrants and the role of immigrants in a society is Structural Functionalism. Structural Functionalism explains society as a structure with interrelated parts that work to maintain stability.(Durkheim,1893). Structural Functionalism looks at society as a whole through the function of its various elements such as traditions norms and institutions (Subedi, 2017). Social Institutions in general provide many important functions for our society (Mooney, Knox, & Schacht, 2007). The family for example provides the role of nurturing and socializing children while education allows society to gain and pass down knowledge and skills (Mooney, Knox, & Schacht, 2007). ... • 55. The Theoretical Perspectives Of Sociology Symbolic interactionism is the first of the three theoretical perspectives in Sociology. This avenue of examining sociological factors looks at more personal interactions than the other two perspectives. Sociologist observe patterns and behaviors of these smaller interactions to define, or redefine, the use and evolution of symbols in society. Some sociologist see this approach as being too focused on one person's view and take on society rather than trying to understand society as a functioning whole (Turner, "Symbolic Interaction Theory"). One example of symbolic interactionism put forth by Erving Goffman (1974) uses Roger, an engineer, as an example. Even though he and his parents believe that Roger is an amazing engineer, their perspective would not take into account that Roger's boss found his skills to be insufficient and fired him. Without combining these two perspectives, that of Roger and his parents and of his boss, there is not a complete understanding of Roger and his skills, or lack there of. The following two perspectives in Sociology examine society at a larger scale. The second theoretical perspective in Sociology is functional analysis. Functional analysis is used to identify and define relationships between different aspects of society. These relationships are determined to be either functional, which is beneficial to society, or dysfunctional, which is not beneficial. The two previous labels are then broken down further and actions can be deemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Until 1973, when abortion was legalized in the U.S., women were obtaining very dangerous abortions that often killed them in the process. Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is "right." There are pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives; Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. Over the years, more people have become pro–choice because of the many circumstances under which a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro–Life and Pro–Choice supporters are almost 50/50 in the U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut down Planned Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot afford to see another physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health care. If this business shuts down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a doctor if they think they are pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc. While these people will have no way of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals will still be able to afford going to another doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle/upper class would have less unwanted babies, allowing them to push off having a child until they are financially and emotionally prepared, while the lower class will have higher numbers of unwanted babies because they could not afford an abortion. It is possible that some type of dialectical model could be created that would appeal to both groups, but as the conflict theory states, there will always be some disagreement. ... Theoretical Perspectives: Television Theoretical Perspectives: Television Theoretical Perspectives: Television Introduction When it comes to family and television shows, there are a lot of different theories that could be used in showing the theoretical point of view of the family. A healthy family would need to sustain and create environment which endorses physical and emotional health and psychological happiness for its members. To achieve this purpose, families will need to recognize how to support, nurture, encourage, protect, connect, generate structure and boundaries, have fun and work together as a group. Does a family have to have a certain look and to the television shows depict this certain look? The response to that could be as diverse as there are families; nevertheless there are shared features that can be originated in various types of families. Vibrant role definitions are recognized as an important characteristic of family functioning and vital for a family's aptitude to familiarize to situations that are changing. • 63. Theoretical Perspectives Introduction Ciccarelli and White (2015) define psychology as the scientific study of mental processes and behavior. Currently, there is no one perspective to explain mental processes and human behavior. There are seven perspectives in psychology that help explain how the mind functions. These perspectives are called theoretical perspectives. Each is different and explains a certain take that scientists and philosophers have when it comes to explaining human behaviors and mental processes. There are infinite ways to describe how the mind works. Major Theoretical Perspectives of Psychology One perspective is the psychodynamic perspective, also known as the dynamic perspective. This perspective was based off Sigmund Freud's ideas related to a psychodynamic approach. It values early childhood experiences and human systematic studies opposed to sex and sexual motives. Psychodynamic also stresses on the idea that the unconscious mind influences conscious mind behavior and further focuses more on self–behavior that leads to social behaviors. Behaviorism is based on early work on by John B. Watson and inspired the Behavioral perspective. This idea suggested responses to certain behaviors that are crucial to future behaviors. This indicates certain responses to negative or positive behaviors which could influence a person to repeat that behavior if they get their desired response. The idea if for a negative behavior to receive a consequence. An example is putting a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Theoretical Perspective In Psychology "Without society, there cannot be a self" (132). That said, the way one presents himself should be examined in terms of the interplay between both the individual and the culture he is immersed in. Symbolic statements used by the self, for example, are often constrained or shifted to convey a meaning that aligns with the institution such a self belongs to. With this in mind, I observed the office doors of the 3rd floor Psychology Department in the Brogden Psychology Building by taking photos of such doors to examine how such statements can reflect one as an individual and as a member of a subculture. Since these statements are seen by other colleagues of the department, it is reasonable to assume that the department is playful in nature. Similarly, many of the directions and lab doors were disorganized, exhibiting a uniform nature of disarray rather than structured organization. Another form of content that was plentiful in numbers was that of posters concerning mental health itself. This sentiment stresses passion for the department's subculture itself, showcasing the department's pride in their research and its importance on society as a whole. This department differs from others I've seen in terms of personality. The unique additions of humor and passion concerning the department set the psychology department apart from many ... This theory is one that follows a never ending cycle because even if a group fails and another one is created, there will always be a following group who will fight to gain their position. An example, of conflict theory in the U.S. is women being in constant battle with society in order to gain equal rights just like men. Women in the past were treated like 2nd class citizens and were not granted the same rights as men, for example, in the era of Women's suffrage. This movement led by woman gave them the right to vote in the same manner men were able to vote (Claerbaut, 2015). First of all, religion creates this sort of common ground for people to share creating this sense of solidarity amongst them. Each perspective provides sociologists theoretical paradigms, or a framework to explain how society and people influence each other. The structural–functional perspective originates from the works of Herbert Spencer, Emile Durkheim, Talcott Parsons, and Roberts Merton. This perspective focuses on the many independent parts of society that work together as a whole, this interconnectedness is what contributes to the social stability.
