I Am A Muslim Parents Essay
I am Muslim. Muslim parents are authoritative. My parents have rules and pretty good reasoning behind them. They are strictly against parties
and anything that could cause trouble in my near future. But I really wanted to experience a party. So, one day I decided to rebel and go to a
friend's party one night, without them knowing. The moment I stepped foot outside my house, was the moment I walked into a huge, impacting
mistake. You never really learn your lesson, once you actually experience the lesson to be learned. On September 12, 2015, Becks was hosting a
party for the first time. I was invited to that party, as were many other people. I really wanted to go. I also knew that I wouldn't be allowed to go so
I thought to myself sneaking out one time won't hurt anyone. Oh, the irony. One of my close friends, Seran, was warning me about what I was
doing. She kept saying, "You will get caught, even if you say you won't Venus, you will". I kept countering her, "Seran, I know what I'm doing".
So she just went along with it. It's not that she didn't want me to go with her, it's that she didn't want me to get in trouble. As for my other friend,
Alyssa, she wanted me to be there in case anything happened to her. So, it was getting to be 11:00 PM & my parents were, thankfully, falling
asleep. At 11:30 PM, I called an Uber to come pick me up and drive me to the party. I walked outside of my house, in the dark, gloomy, creepy night,
for the Uber to get to me. So, the Uber

An Analysis Of Baby Kochamman In The God Of Small Things
An antagonist can be defined as someone or something that is put in the story to oppose the protagonist or to cause problems that need to be
overcome. Throughout the story, every character in one way or another causes problems, as the story emphasizes that nobody is perfect. The
Orangedrink Lemondrink man could be an antagonist as he causes Estha great emotional turmoil and traumatizes him. Ammu and Velutha could be
antagonists because if they hadn't had the affair then maybe Velutha wouldn't be dead and the children wouldn't have been separated and maybe, just
maybe, Sophie Mol wouldn't have drowned in the river. Chacko could also be an antagonist as he kicks Ammu out of the house which eventually
results in the separation of the twins. However, one character, in particular, Baby Kochamma, in every part of the story, not only does she cause
problems, she causes problems for everyone. Baby Kochamma causes problems for Rahel and Estha, for Ammu, for Velutha, forthe police, and even
makes Chacko more miserable and angry, eventually leading him to force Ammu to leave. Baby Kochamma continually manipulates the characters in
the story into doing what she wants to get herself out of trouble. Foreshadowing the main conflict and also the climax in The God of Small Things,
Baby Kochamma says, in relation to Velutha, "That man will be our nemesis" (Roy 175).
When Velutha's father shows up at the family house to tell Mammachi that Ammu and Velutha had been seeing each other, Baby

Reflection Of My Personal Essay : My Philosophy Of Friendship
2 years ago, a friend taught me something. She didn't mean to, and the situation didn't lend itself to learning life lessons. But for whatever reason, this
situation above all others really defines a piece of my life philosophy.
I believe in being happy for others, rather than being jealous of them, when they get things you want. It's not uncommon to be jealous of a friend, and
before eighth grade, I was often jealous of others. I was jealous that my friends had money when I didn't, that my male friends actually looked
masculine while I looked like a girl, and that they were more experienced romantically than I was.
The experience that led me to end this jealousy, like many events in my life, began with a failed romantic endeavour. At the end of seventh grade, I
admitted my love to a friend I'd fallen for, a girl called Rebecca. She rejected me, to which I responded with mock sorrow and sarcasm, and we
continued our friendship largely unhindered. The next year, in eighth grade, I asked out another of my friends, a girl called April that I was very
close with. I got rejected, (by this point in my life, rejection didn't so much as phase me anymore) to which I once again responded with mock sorrow
and sarcasm, and we continued our friendship largely unhindered.
I felt a bit sorry for myself, getting rejected twice by 2 close friends and making life awkward, but I didn't really get hung up on it. I mean, it's not like I
actually expected to succeed – I was the boy everybody called a "trap" because I looked and spoke femininely. Guys often had to clarify that they were
in the right bathroom when they saw me there. I didn't know why anyone would date me – in their position, I certainly wouldn't!
So I became jealous of my friends, for looking like their own gender, for being able to succeed romantically. What's the point, you may be asking, to
all of this? Well, this mindset took me over for a bit. What's really important here is what encouraged me to break it.
And surprisingly, it was actually April and Rebecca who finally got me to.
As luck would have it, they had both rejected me partly because they were interested in someone else. Specifically, they were interested in each other.
How's that for a plot twist, huh?

Descriptive Essay On Gymnastics
Gymnastics was a big part of my life and I was very excited when I got my first complicated skill it had taken me about 2 years to get the skill. It was
Saturday and my day started off by eating some breakfast, my mom had made pancakes and bacon and they were delicious. I finished off my breakfast
and my dad told me to go get ready because we were going to run some errands and so I did, I picked out this red shirt with free shoulder it was kind of
big on me so, it looked like a dress but I liked it that way, to go with the long red shirt. I picked out some black tights because they seemed comfy.
On my hair, I did a half up half down with a bun at the top and I got my favorite brown sandals and put them on. Before my family left I had to do my
bed, because my dad said, if I kept my room clean all year I would be able to get a new phone, I cleaned my bed and rushed out the door. When my
family and I were in the car, my dad started singing and I was cringing so hard but, I didn't tell him anything because that would be rude. We
stopped at Winco to get groceries. My brother was excited because whenever we went to the grocery store he would get a bar of candy. This time it
wasn't any different, we bought the food and went to pay my job was always to put the groceries into the bags which is fun. We headed into the car
and my parents loaded the groceries into the trunk. We started driving into the mall, so I could buy some shorts for summer, because all I had were
pants. We

The Primary Causes Of Mass School Shootings In America
Mass school shootings have become a disturbing trend in this country in the last two decades. According to the FBI, mass shootings (defined as
shooting events that kill at least four people) occur approximately every two weeks in the United States (Manson). This baffling trend has left families
and communities devastated with some having no concrete answers as to why exactly they lost their loved ones to these tragedies. Why have there
been so many school shootings recently? Questions such as this must be answered, and they must be answered soon.
My answer to this problem is that the media spends far too much time covering these incidents and gives the killers the attention they seek. If they
simply stop giving the killers that attention, the number of school shooting will drastically decrease.
After every school shooting, most people can personally witness how certain parties and groups jump in and use the tragedy to promote their
suggestions or push their political agendas.
During this time, gun control advocates campaign for stricter gun laws. Mental health advocates use this chance to bring up the faults within our
healthcare system. Although these groups do bring up some valid arguments, none of them can be labeled as the primary cause of so many school
shootings. I believe the reason that is to blame for the majority of these school shootings is the insane media coverage of the shootings and the killers
because it gives the killers the attention that they seek. Through

My College Experience : The Best Experience In College
I was always told that the time spent in college is some of the best of your life, that the friends you make will last a lifetime, that you can truly be
yourself in college. So far that has yet to be proved true, its not to say that college has been the worst experience of my life but I have yet to find
my place. When I look around at others it seems they already have a place, and not wanting to bel left out I have began to play the role of someone
that truly belongs. My performance as Goffman would call it is a form of impression management, but it is no less me than me in other situations. "
The self... is not an organic thing that has a specific loctation whose fundamental fate is to be born to mature and to die: it is a dramatic effect arising
diffusely from a scene that is presented" (Goffman) The self I present is my front, it is a combination of the setting, my mannerisms and my appearance.
The setting informs the definition of the situation, different situations invoke different presentation of selves. In a college setting one is expected to fit
in, to have friends, to go out, have fun and to be yourself. Apparence are clothing choices, makeup accessories, and mannerisms are the small
habits picked up to enforce the impression of your self. At college I have tried to portray a well adjusted student, who has found her place and always
has something to do. To create my outgoing image I try to be in my dorm room as little as possible. This can be easily achieved during the weekdays, I
have classes through part of the day and the rest of the day can be spent at a table doing work. It is also easy to spend the night at the library and come
home at 12 or 1. The weekend provides a harder challenge, especially the nights. Working every Friday night was a blessing in disguise, what I
once thought would be a chore, became a reason to be gone most of Friday and return to the dorm after my roommate has left for the night. At that
point it is easy to change into clothes one would wear going out, that way when my roommate returns it looks like I too have had a blast on a Friday
night. Saturday then becomes the more challenging day, and night. During the day I can explore Carlsile or evn try to sleep in as late as

Personal Narrative: Junior High School
At twelve–years–old, starting Junior High was struggle for me. It wasn't because anyone was bullying me or because my friends left me and I was
surrounded with drama, it was actually personal inflictions. Junior High was stressful, the natural fear of not being accepted at me, a few months
before my dear friend Ruby moved from Clovis to San Francisco. It was all just a lot, and in sixth grade I felt a little... betrayed by my long time
guy friend. It hurt to know we'd never be friends again, no matter how hard I wanted to start over. That, and just being a normal teenage girl, I was
often feeling misunderstood and under deep pressure from my family. It was a very depressing few years and there were even times when I became
jealous and hateful and I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even my mother sympathizes for me, and it was only worse when my baby teeth failed to loosen and my grown up teeth decided to move right on
in. For more than nine months we went to dentist after dentist, searching for someone to fix me up. Once we found a dentist, rather an
orthodontist, they instantly assigned us to get teeth pulled. How many? A terrifying total of seven. Oh my goodness how I flipped! BUT, luckily in
a way, it took us four more months to actually find someone who'd accept medical. It wasn't until I told my aunt, "I really want to get my teeth
fixed and want to smile like a normal person can," did she call up one of her own dentist's and assign me an appointment! Now the true, terrifying
terrors kick in.. They sent us to yet another dentist, who FINALLY set up a date to extract my teeth, which happened to be August 4. We went at 5
PM, my mom, my grandma, and I, and it didn't take more than five minutes before the called me in for the procedure. Already, just by sitting down,
they kicked in the tools and the big equipment, and me, being a nervous me, was shaking like it was below

College Admissions Essay: Why I Want To Study Art
Since I was a young girl, I've loved to make things. I was often found doodling intricate patterns all over my notes, crafting collages out of magazine
clippings, molding cities out of playdough, and making beautifully detailed cards out of paper. I would draw from life with an imaginative twist, as
well as frequently sketch from my manikin. I was interested in many branches of the arts. I did theatre and dance for a number of years as well.
Although I had always been interested in the arts, school made me think it was unimportant so I pushed my interest aside and attempted other things.
Yet, I dedicated myself whole heartedly to any opportunity to craft and find creativity in my assignments. I could spend hours on a smalldrawing
assignment for English. I would lose myself in the enjoyment.
Last year, I was given a life changing opportunity to take free portrait drawing classes. To my surprise, I was actually quite good. My success in this
class inspired me to sign up for more MCAD classes over the summer, specifically painting and comic book art.
This sparked a fiery passion in me. I began to draw daily. It made me feel so good about myself to do art again. I felt I was doing what I am meant to
do. I enjoy every aspect of making art. Even though I don't "enjoy" struggling, I take it on gladly because I know it will help me improve. I'm ... Show

would give each other critiques and bounce off each other's ideas. This experience helped me grow, but working alone was where I truly discovered
myself as an artist. My teacher's job was to guide us when we were stuck, so it was difficult not to have constant criticism of my work. Through this
experience I learned to be my own critic. I learned that there is no one–way art process and that's something that makes it so hard yet

"I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975."
The novel begins as a frame narrative (introduces the story within a story) as Amir reflects on the past. It appears that he will do so with an adult
understanding of the events.
Winter often symbolizes death, creating an ominous setting to begin the story.
The connotation of the words "frigid" and "overcast" establishes a despairing tone.
Therefore, the allusion to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

"That was a long time ago, but it's wrong what they say about the past, I've learned, about how you can bury it. Because the past claws its way out.
Looking back now, I realize I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty–six years."
Chapter 1 the author describes the most important climax of the drama, the date also displays a significant meaning to Amir because it shows how long
the struggle has lasted.
–Amir metaphorically continues looking into the alley where Assef raped Hassan, which means he was reminded of the event in his mind
"Because the truth of it was, I always felt like Baba hated me a little. And why not? After all, I had killed his beloved wife, his beautiful princess,
hadn't I? The least I could have done was to have had the decency to have turned out a little more like him. But I hadn't turned out like him."
Chapter 3

When Calls The Heart Character Analysis
I know you can't say much about your role as Carson. Instead, what was your experience like joining the cast of When Calls the Heart and getting to
play this character?
Paul: Well the producer that does When Calls the Heart also did some of my other movies. I also worked with Andrea [Brooks], who plays Nurse
Carter. She was in a film that I did with Lacey Chabert called A Wish for Christmas. So I worked with her and she was like you have to come work
on When Calls the Heart. I had heard of it because my girlfriend and my mom were watching it over Christmas. I also knew that Janette Oke is from the
same little town in Alberta, Canada called Champion which is where my grandma and grandpa are from. And she actually knew them. So then when

There's not much music from then and it's the weirdest thing. You realize that not even 100 years ago their music was so limited. You can kind of
hear familiar sounds as to where our music maybe has come from. But also doing the research helps. Like when Carson says he worked the chuck
wagons for the railroad, looking back at what chuck wagons were, they were the food trucks of that time. So looking back to see what that looked
like and how the kitchen was setup on a chuck wagon is fun! Playing a period piece is a whole different thing. You get to look at the history and see
how things used to be and I really like that!
And it's great getting to create the whole history and backstory for Carson. Very little of acting is just knowing your lines. There's a lot of stuff
before hand and all the other work that you do. It's all imagination and play. Thanks to my girlfriend, who's an amazing actor, taught me a lot of new
ways to create a backlight for the history of this character.
I know you have also modeled and it wasn't until later in life that you fully committed to acting. So what made you leave modeling and purse acting full

Is Meritocracy
Is Meritocracy Actually As Fair As It Sounds?
Those who deserve to, succeed, and those who succeed, deserve to. People have to earn everything they have and, no matter where they start, as
long as they work hard they can get anywhere they want to go. An extreme form of the 'American Dream'. But while it is most definitely all of
these things listed above, is a meritocracy actually as fair as it sounds? In order for a meritocracy to work, everyone would have to start on a level
playing field in terms of race, wealth, and neighborhood to have the same opportunity to earn their success. But, to get to this point, wealth would
have to be redistributed and races would have to be seen as perfectly equal to each other, which seems difficult in the current society of the world
where stigmas and stereotypes surround certain races and topics. According to a writer in The Atlantic Monthly, even just the myth of meritocracy, or
the relative truth of it, can have a negative effect on colored children. For example, Dasani is an 11 year old African–American girl living in "a
decrepit city–run shelter for the homeless" in New York (Elliot). It is obviously no place for a child. Dasani, however, is quite smart and is described by
her principal as "the kind of girl who could be anything– even a Supreme Court justice– if only she harnesses her gifts early enough". But, it is hard for
children growing up in the situations Dasani is in, to even find what those gifts are given the

My Personal Statement On My Life
Once I'd made my list it took me a while to become willing. Just as doing anything about my drinking or my character defects, my willingness to
make proper amends only came when I was hurting, when I was disturbed enough to become willing to do something about it. That my drinking,
character defects and harms done affected other people was no prompt to get me into action. I became motivated not because an amend was due but
because I was hurting. Am I selfish, self–seeking and self–centred? Yes you betcha.
However in saying that there was one amend I wanted to make straightaway though looking back, now that I'm trying to work the Programme, it wasn't
really willingness that was involved, more like self–will run riot. In the full flush of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today I make my amends to her by respecting her wishes to stay away from her door. Another example of an amend done for the wrong reasons and
in the wrong way was one I did out of guilt for harms done to my brother, happily joined up with feelings of superiority towards him – I wasn't
drinking and doing well, he was drinking and financially in a bad way.
I only became willing to make one amend that was definitely due when I saw the person I had harmed at a meeting and felt bad. This time I
checked with my sponsor that my motives were true. On this occasion there was fear on my part as my amend involved admitting to a criminal act.
However by this time I had a Higher Power in my life and knew I had to do the right thing just because it was the right thing to do. But I also knew
that if I didn't it would always be lurking about in my head waiting to rear its ugly head. By this time I could trust that whatever the outcome I would
cope with it if I didn't drink and kept it in the day. Nervously I made the amend and it was received in the spirit that was intended.
The willingness to make another amend came through fear. I hadn't seen the person I had harmed for a while and knew she'd moved abroad but one
day I was with my partner in the area they came from and I thought: 'What if I bumped into her?' My partner had nothing to do with my bad
behaviour, is a quiet and private person, the person I had harmed was a heavy drinker, loud and

Essay on Maywood Academy: To Charter or Not to Charter
To my fellow community and all present here today, we are faced with a problem bigger than we thought it would be, either to go charter or not!
What does charter mean to you? To me it means being isolated in a prison ruled by selfish stubborn officials that don't take our education and our
future seriously! Some of us might take it lightly while on others it has a huge impact. I, as a fellow student will not stand for this. I demand for my
voice to be heard; not only for myself, but for others too. And together we will prevail.
Maywood Academy gives a lot of opportunities too many students that want to succeed in life. With charter, all those opportunities will just go down

All they will do is just bring us down. Charter is treating our school like if we are something to fight over. We aren't just plain anything, we are a
community united. And this is our school!
Let's not be selfish and just think of our generation but the generations after us. Be fair and let them have the same opportunities as we did. But then
again, how would I know that my classmates and I will have those future opportunities if we go charter. On the other hand, let us speak our mind and
let us be.
If we go charter, how will we know if our school will stay the same? Charter means semi–private and semi–public. But how do we know if it's going to
be more private than public. Right now Maywood Academy is part of our community and it is open to the public but if we go charter our school
won't belong to us but to a company that will have the rights to make the rules not knowing whether it will be good for us or bad. We shall not take
that risk because we are doing well and if they make the rules there is a chance that they might bring us down. In private schools, special–ed kids aren't
accepted, so how do we know if special–ed kids will be accepted at our "new" school? Their futures will be lost too! Not only them but kids with
problems concentrating in school. How would we know if teachers from charter will have the patience to teach them? If Maywood Academy goes
charter there is a big risk of loosing half the staff members and many

Comparing Rose In The Stars And Stripes
Their contrasting forms were perhaps indicative of their vastly different gangs. Rose was the epitome of lower–class pomp and circumstance, so to
speak. Her eye–catching garb and scandalous style seemed to demand the attention of the room. It mirrored her gang perfectly. The Stars and
Stripes weren't the quiet underbelly of the city, they were the rambunctious kings of it. They strutted about in full sight of both police and the
lesser gangs of the city. They weren't careful, quiet, or calculated. They were loud and harsh, as braggadocios as their leader Rose. Moira, on the
other hand, had dressed just as conservatively as Rose had expected. Layers of clothing on top of layers of clothing. the individual clothes
themselves were nice, but each was there for its own practical reason, and as a result there was no cohesion to the overall aesthetic. Moira
embodied the practicality of her gang. They lay beneath the radar because that was how they operated best. They dressed practically and quietly,
their minds left on efficiency. In Rose's mind, it was a gang that lacked vision. You couldn't be a king dressed in rags, just as much as you couldn't rule

New Year's Eve
31st Dec 2013 08:30PM It was 08:30pm and I was sitting in my office, enjoying the last day of this year. I was happy, my friends,my colleagues, my
seniors everyone was happy because we were about to leave for the biggest party of the year. Every year our company organizes this biggest party and
in this party they announces the best employee of the year. I was also in the list of nominees of the best employee and some of my seniors told me
that in this year I will get this award. I was very very excited.
But there was a little problem. My love my angel my sweetheart my wife pari, she was waiting for me at home. She was thinking that I will come
home today and we both will celebrate new year together because last year I did the same thing, I was in party and she was alone at home and when
I called her to wish her happy new year, she didn't respond to me and was angry too. So this time I had already set some plans to celebrate new
year with my love. But when my seniors told me that I am in nominees list and my chances of getting this award is high, I was like oh no, this time
again my sweetheart will be alone at home. My presence at the party was also important. So I decided to call her.

The Electronic Sound : A World Of Massive Technological...

"The Electronic Sound"
In a world of massive technological development, the expansion of the "electric sound" and the growing cultural society behind it have led to the
construction of a number of prominent digitally devised genres seen worldwide. This new music has taken a rise of popularity at an exponential rate
and has been accepted and adapted culturally in the mass majorities of today's population. Though the music today has its different and specific sound
to it, some of the original qualities still are very prominent in the genre of the now. To bridge the connection between the initial electronic sound and
the contemporary take on it, one could look at groups who currently practice this music, such as the University of Pennsylvania's student DJ group
dubbed "The Collectve", and compare the quality and details of their music with artists and groups existing in the birth age of electronic music and
continuing through the its progression until the current state. This, in addition to reviewing the global expansion and acceptance of the genre
worldwide throughout the years, will collectively work towards summarizing what EDM/house music is as a whole.
To fully understand the present forms of electronic music one must look back at the origins of the sound entirely. Technically the birth of this music
took place in the 1960s upon the creations of the first electronic synthesizers, specifically the Moog

Pet Shop Boys and Beauty Essay
Success & Jealousy in Beauty Beauty, written by Jane Martin in the mid nineteen hundreds, is an ironic play about two successful women,
Bethany and Carla. Both women were the same age yet complete opposites. They also had completely different personalities and were unhappy with
their lives. Martin casted and characterized them this way to illustrate a few themes. The drama was mainly centered on the theme that no one is ever
happy unless they get their wishes granted. However, in these two women's cases, getting what they wanted caused them to realize there is nothing
wrong with being different. These two themes can be seen through the two character's success, jealousy, and a genie. Bethany and Carla experienced

Bethany just considered a self a disgrace and a piece of trash. Carla explained, "Bethany is beautiful and she has the charm, personality, and is
perfectly pretty" (736). Of course, Bethany places a stereotype on beautiful by saying, "it is the real deal. Carla gets discounts on makeup for no
reason. Parents treat beautiful children better and they even statistically get paid more. Beautiful people can have sex any time, any place" (736).
Carla, confused, did not understand why Bethany wanted to be just like her. Bethany hated Carla most of the time because of her beauty. This
leads Carla to go on a rant about beauty and why it is so difficult to live and be beautiful simultaneously. Carla tells Bethany to be herself and she
will have an amazing life. Bethany begs to differ and says, "it is what everyone wants to be. Money can only make you buy things. Beauty makes
you the center of the entire universe. All eyes are always on those individuals that are beautiful" (736). Carla says, "Bethany will hate her life is she
was beautiful. She would be miserable and unhappy" (736). Bethany then pulls out a genie in a bottle. Bethany, determined, reiterates, "Carla's
thoughts do not matter. Carla was just lying about everything, which explains why she had no friends or a long relationship. Bethany wanted to be
just like Carla, and she had a god dam genie and only one wish to make" (736). Bethany indeed used her

A Dinner At Home Is A Great Experience For People
Having dinner at home is supposed to be a great experience for people: being with families, enjoying hot soup and eating delicious pork. However,
in the article The Diner, Bill Trub represents a dinner experience which is a little weird to readers. The "I" returns home and has his dinner in a
small restaurant. During the meal, he sees diners who he cannot recognize behave in a strange manner. For example, "a bearded lady yawns. She's
eating meatloaf and mash without a knife or fork. Her name is Rachel, Denise or Chuck." The town is filled with such people with such three
uncertain names. According to a "baby grandfather's" words, they are all waiting for and welcoming "I", whose name is "Bill, Bill, or Bill" here,
to get back home. In my eyes, the people there are like savages or walking bodies. Their identities are unclear and they cannot be recognized by
others, while they act as if they are numb, lacking the ability of thinking. The fiction is like an exaggerated model of the real world where people
are in a tendency to be objectified, and I would like to share my opinions on why it happens and what it will lead to. Nowadays, money is taking a
significant part of people's life. To get money, lots of people objectify others as if they are tools instead ofhuman beings, and ignore their basic physical
and mental needs. Meanwhile, during the process, they are objectifying themselves also, for they almost become machines designed for making money.

Essay On My Birthday
It was a bright Saturday afternoon and my birthday. I was scrambling around trying to make my house look somewhat presentable. Rrrrrinngg. As one
the guest rang the doorbell, I quickly jumped up ready to receive them.
"Oh my goodness, T–Taylor Swift is literally standing 3 feet away from me!" I squealed.
In the corner of my eye, I could see Taylor's limo drive away, then I realized I had been standing there for a whole minute, making her wait.
"Oh i'm so sorry, please come in and make yourself at home," I urged.
"Would you like anything to eat or drink?" I asked
"Water with ice and a hint of lemon will do," Taylor responded. Without question, I rapidly went to fetch some water for Taylor, but as I was doing
that, George Washington graciously walked straight into my house! I could not believe this. I dropped the water and it shattered onto the floor.
"I'm so sorry for scaring you, let me help you clean up!" George insisted, "and by the way, I left my horse on your driveway. I hope you don't
mind." "No, no, it's alright" I lied. But I totally did mind that there is a horse standing in my driveway probably leaving little surprises for me to
clean up later. "Please have a seat at the table while we wait for the rest of the guests, and feel free to munch on the chips and dip I had left out," I
insisted. As they sat down to eat, Hermione flew right through my window, riding on her long thin broom.
"Oh my, i'm so sorry. Let me do you the favor, and fix your window," insisted Hermione. But before I could say anything else, Hermione whipped out
her handy dandy wand. "Oculus Reparo!" Hermione hollered. Suddenly all the little shattered pieces of glass, started to float in the air like little
puzzle pieces to connect to each other. And less than ten seconds later, the window was as good as new....
"Wow that was outstanding!" Washington bursted out in amazement, "You must teach me how to do that." "Well i'm not to be using my magic in front
of muggles, but I guess it won't hurt to teach you," Hermione acknowledged. After a whole hour or so of Hermione teaching us spells that she had
learned in Hogwart's, we all decided to start eating dinner.
"I hope all of you enjoy the pasta I prepared!" I announced,

The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin
The term "irony" is not easy to define perhaps because it is largely misunderstood. For instance, there are some people who use the term "irony"
interchangeably with "misfortune" or the term "ironic" with "cynical." Oftentimes, literature is an excellent teacher about what certain terms mean.
Indeed, Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" and Edward Arlington Robinson's "Miniver Cheevy" seem to provide excellent insight as to what "irony"
truly means. In addition to these, scrutiny of Lawrence Berkove's analysis of Chopin's "The Story of an Hour", provides deeper enlightenment. After
reading these literary pieces, it becomes evident that irony refers to the contrast between people's perceptions of truth and reality, as in Miniver Cheevy
"The Story of an Hour" and Berkove's "Fatal Self–Assertion In Kate Chopin's 'The Story Of An Hour'"; and, when a character states something that he
or she believes to be true but the reader knows is actually false, such as in Miniver Cheevy. Irony occurs when there is a mismatch between what
certain people believe to be true and what reality truly is. In "The Story of an Hour," Mrs. Mallard experiences a triumphant feeling after hearing the
news that her husband was killed in an accident. After a brief moment of grief, Mrs. Mallard realizes that with her husband's death, she is "Free. Body
and Soul, free" (338). Mrs. Mallard cherished the thought that she would no longer have to submit to her husband's will, and would instead be in

Personal Essay: Determination
In society today, many people judge others by their actions, appearance, and words without understanding the true reasons behind it. Somebody
may act a certain way when in reality the person is doing it for a specific reason. In my life, my friends, family, teammates, and classmates judge
me based on my actions. My friends and teammates, specifically, view me as determined, probably because my uncle has inspired me to try my
hardest even if there are obstacles standing in my way. In soccer, for example, I push myself during practice while my teammates are off task. One
practice, specifically, we were doing 5v2's and passing patterns to develop our technical skills. Most of the team were fooling around while I stayed

I have become determined due to a couple of changes that have happened in my life. The first reason is something that almost none of my friends
know about. When I was 10, my uncle was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which is a disease where the immune system eats away at the protective
covering of the nerves. His disease has gotten progressively worse where he is now unable to walk and has to have an assist dog. He struggles in
his everyday life because he can not use his legs but continues to try to achieve his goals and live his life the way he wants. He has shown me that I
have to live each day to the fullest and never give up even if there are challenges standing in my way. I have become determined because my uncle
has also shown me that any of these days could be my last and I should not settle for an okay life. Another one of my motivations to be determined
has happened to me more recently. In March, I got really sick and found out that I had Type 1 Diabetes. This disease affects me in my everyday
life similar to my uncle. With this disease I see the world much differently than I did before and have found that I have to work extra hard because
my diabetes puts me at a disadvantage. In sports, I have to make sure my blood sugars are level so I can perform my best. This disease has made me
more determined because I have to push myself harder than others do to achieve the same things. From this point

Personal Narrative : Personal Writing : Flash To High School
Those words hit me like a bus.
Bound to get in.
Stopped in my tracks, I pivoted the other way as if nothing had occurred like it was just something I had imagined out of some foolish teenage drama
show. Soon I arrived at school.
Bound to get in.
A phrase burned in my head like this unpleasant migraine, and I couldn't shake it off.
That pulsing hastened the minute I entered the class I saw the disrespect, the lack of enthusiasm, the lack of talent. I felt so out of place for all the
wrong reasons. I was too "naive" to connect but too mature to fall behind. I was in awe.
Bound to get in.
Flash to high school. Things are changing. For the better? Surprisingly, I don't really know yet. This difference is that the new talent pricked fear
into the hearts of the population. Still, I was accounted for, I had a reputation to uphold, and yet I still found myself stuck in the mud pit of
disrespect. I still look back at myself in seventh grade. I never really felt that I belonged. They didn't hate me, I mean they acknowledged my
presence, but nothing more. There wasn't a best friend to discuss the homework with, or someone to have a sleepover with on the weekends, no one
came to mind. My grades were stellar, my teachers loved me, but I still felt lost. Now I am referred to as the girl with all the answers yet I never know
how to answer my own questions. They know I work hard. They know I want to be here. So why was that an issue 4 years ago? Why was the desire to

Volkswagen 's Impact On The World 's Best Known Car...
I. Volkswagen is one of the world's best–known car manufacturers; unfortunately it has damaged its credibility and reputation with the recent emission
scandal that the company was involved in. Volkswagen failed in establishing the triple bottom line, social responsibility, and sustainability.
The long and commonly held belief was that the only responsibility of business was to maximize the wealth of its shareholders. Today, however,
companies must be socially responsible and focus on what is now called the "Triple Bottom Line" that is compromised of: environment, economy and
people. All of this ties into the sustainability goals that companies are now setting for themselves to show the public that the firm is socially
responsible. Recently, Volkswagenhas been the center of controversy, because their diesel engines had a device that could detect when they were being
tested and change their performance to improve the results. Volkswagen's recent debacle has highlighted how failing to be socially responsible can
come back to haunt a company. The emissions–cheating scandal that Volkswagen was caught in hurt the German carmaker's image, brand and
reputation. Before the scandal, the general public held the Volkswagen brand in high esteem. Volkswagen has been a car brand that has been known
for its reliability and quality. However, in light of the scandal, Volkswagen received a plethora of negative media exposure. A Reuters article stated that

not in trouble." Frank wanted to say, "that 's not the reason I 'm nervous," but decided to instead laugh a bit and nod. "Follow me." Mr Way said,
beckoning Frank with his hand. They made it to literature and chemistry, gathering the three kids and the art teacher in the middle of the hallway

The, The Neighbor Behind Us Practices Scream Therapy
The neighbor behind us practices scream therapy in his shower almost every morning. I thought it was weird; he was only 17 and scream therapy
is usually when you reenact a particularly disturbing past experience occurring early in life. Presumably, I figured he might have been six or
seven when this horrendous event happened, but by the sound of it, this, this was much bigger than dropped cookies and lost dinosaurs. These
screams; they sound as if he has still been living in his own misery. Louis did not come to school on Monday, or Tuesday for that matter. I didn't
even hear his screams on those two mornings; I figured he was done with it, but just my luck. On Wednesday, the 8th, Louis practiced his therapy

Siemens' first statements were exemplary of an ill–suited cursory attempting to downplay a developing scandal prematurely. This tactic appeared
egoistical and lacked moral responsibility. It also damaged stakeholders' impressions of Siemens' integrity and in general damaged its reputation in the

In society we are faced with a plethora of options about everything from college majors to the type of toothpaste we purchase. The question then
becomes: are the numerous options a help or a hindrance? In an article from The Atlantic, writer Lan Wallace discusses the issue surrounding what is
termed "choice overload." The research reviewed today explores this question and explores how the results could impact how businesses and other
institutions choose to approach increasingly saturated markets.

The independent variable in the experiment was the types and number of jams displayed. And the dependent variable was the motivation to make the
choice of which jam to purchase.
Iyengar and Lapper conducted quantitative research. They did this by observing the customers, recording how many sampled and how many followed
through to commitment by purchasing jam. They also measured those that walked away.
Iyengar's sample was primarily middle aged Caucasians, 62 percent of whom were female. At the times in which the jams were displayed there were
386 shoppers present. Of those, 260 actually engaged the display.
The media did in fact stretch the generalizability since the sampled population was not very diverse. With most of the sample being middle aged
Caucasian females, who were likely of similar socioeconomic status. The study was done at a high end market in California. Part of the reason for the
generalization is attributed to the work of Barry Schwartz, who first introduced the idea of the "paradox of choice." Schwartz's teachings infiltrated the
media, in turn promoting the stretching of this samples' generalizability.
The study is experimental. They did the experiment in a natural environment, attempting to make it as ordinary as possible so they did it at a market
in California that regularly has and offers samples. They were two groups one that offered 6 types of jams and another that offered 24 types of jams.

She was left by her husband (Richard father) to raise Richard and his little brother all alone, but just like other women who husband leave them for
another women, Ella Wright slowly started to lose herself. Not only did the abandonment from Richard father effect Mrs. Wright but it also took an
extreme toll on young Richard though he do not speak on the situation too much. With the life long illness that Ella Wright had she became extremely
needy. The care from her own mother and kids was greatly needed. Though many view Mrs. Wright as an extremely harsh mother, it is the lack of
emotional support and tough love that shaped Richard into the extremely successful man and outstanding writer he became. In this paper one will

Oppression And Identity In The Story Of An Hour By Mrs....
All throughout history, people have faced different types of oppression. During the Holocaust, Jewish citizens were forced into internment camps
because of their religion. In the 1960s, African Americans faced daily prejudice from their white counterparts. Even today, in places like, modern

Iran, people are tortured and killed because of their sexual orientation. Societal standards and social norms forced these people into a corner,
preventing the majority from being able to express their opinions. Those who were able to voice their beliefs, although possibly receiving backlash,
have been able to inspire a new wave of thought, helping our society evolve to be more open and accepting of different people. In the short story, "The

to revolve her life around for so long. On top of this, she has a heart condition, preventing her from being able to seek out opportunities and live for
herself. After learning of her husband's death, Mrs. Mallard goes through a wave of different emotions, in which she realizes without her husband by
her side she can live the way she wants to. In "The Story of an Hour", Mrs. Mallard encompasses the themes of oppression and identity through her
initial reaction to her husband's death, her thoughts during the hour, and her own death. Mrs. Mallard feels a loss of identity when she first learns of

Descriptive Essay
The Mad Maze Allen Tran P:6 11/06/17 I stood at the outskirts of San Jose, California. The night sky was showing with glittering stars, shining the
cosmos. The wind as cold as ice with the howling sound of wolves in the background. It was almost pretty peaceful and quiet except for the sounds
of nature. My friends and I were camping by a campfire sharing scary stories. Our parents were gone to refill gas and get more food. "We won't be
gone that long, just to resupply our needs, that's all," said my mom before they left, but I knew that leaving us alone by ourselves was a bad idea.
"Hey Allen, what're you thinking about?" asked Justin right in the middle of sharing his scary story. See, Justin looks like one of those high school
jocks who would have easily bullied someone with his stocky build, and he's pretty tall. Of course, with all this physique, he is an athlete at almost
every sport ever made.
"Nothing important," I said quickly. Yet, it wasn't nothing. At age 7, I was at my father's farm helping my dad do lawn work, and then theman came.
The man had menacing features with his kabuki mask, 2 foot machete, and wearing all–black clothing. I stood in shock and didn't know what to do
until he said, 'I'm coming for you.' His voice deep and hollow which perfectly matches his disguise. Ever since then, I'm still anxious of his appearance.
"Doesn't sound like

I Am A Muslim Parents Essay

  • 1. I Am A Muslim Parents Essay I am Muslim. Muslim parents are authoritative. My parents have rules and pretty good reasoning behind them. They are strictly against parties and anything that could cause trouble in my near future. But I really wanted to experience a party. So, one day I decided to rebel and go to a friend's party one night, without them knowing. The moment I stepped foot outside my house, was the moment I walked into a huge, impacting mistake. You never really learn your lesson, once you actually experience the lesson to be learned. On September 12, 2015, Becks was hosting a party for the first time. I was invited to that party, as were many other people. I really wanted to go. I also knew that I wouldn't be allowed to go so I thought to myself sneaking out one time won't hurt anyone. Oh, the irony. One of my close friends, Seran, was warning me about what I was doing. She kept saying, "You will get caught, even if you say you won't Venus, you will". I kept countering her, "Seran, I know what I'm doing". So she just went along with it. It's not that she didn't want me to go with her, it's that she didn't want me to get in trouble. As for my other friend, Alyssa, she wanted me to be there in case anything happened to her. So, it was getting to be 11:00 PM & my parents were, thankfully, falling asleep. At 11:30 PM, I called an Uber to come pick me up and drive me to the party. I walked outside of my house, in the dark, gloomy, creepy night, for the Uber to get to me. So, the Uber ... • 2. An Analysis Of Baby Kochamman In The God Of Small Things An antagonist can be defined as someone or something that is put in the story to oppose the protagonist or to cause problems that need to be overcome. Throughout the story, every character in one way or another causes problems, as the story emphasizes that nobody is perfect. The Orangedrink Lemondrink man could be an antagonist as he causes Estha great emotional turmoil and traumatizes him. Ammu and Velutha could be antagonists because if they hadn't had the affair then maybe Velutha wouldn't be dead and the children wouldn't have been separated and maybe, just maybe, Sophie Mol wouldn't have drowned in the river. Chacko could also be an antagonist as he kicks Ammu out of the house which eventually results in the separation of the twins. However, one character, in particular, Baby Kochamma, in every part of the story, not only does she cause problems, she causes problems for everyone. Baby Kochamma causes problems for Rahel and Estha, for Ammu, for Velutha, forthe police, and even makes Chacko more miserable and angry, eventually leading him to force Ammu to leave. Baby Kochamma continually manipulates the characters in the story into doing what she wants to get herself out of trouble. Foreshadowing the main conflict and also the climax in The God of Small Things, Baby Kochamma says, in relation to Velutha, "That man will be our nemesis" (Roy 175). When Velutha's father shows up at the family house to tell Mammachi that Ammu and Velutha had been seeing each other, Baby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reflection Of My Personal Essay : My Philosophy Of Friendship 2 years ago, a friend taught me something. She didn't mean to, and the situation didn't lend itself to learning life lessons. But for whatever reason, this situation above all others really defines a piece of my life philosophy. I believe in being happy for others, rather than being jealous of them, when they get things you want. It's not uncommon to be jealous of a friend, and before eighth grade, I was often jealous of others. I was jealous that my friends had money when I didn't, that my male friends actually looked masculine while I looked like a girl, and that they were more experienced romantically than I was. The experience that led me to end this jealousy, like many events in my life, began with a failed romantic endeavour. At the end of seventh grade, I admitted my love to a friend I'd fallen for, a girl called Rebecca. She rejected me, to which I responded with mock sorrow and sarcasm, and we continued our friendship largely unhindered. The next year, in eighth grade, I asked out another of my friends, a girl called April that I was very close with. I got rejected, (by this point in my life, rejection didn't so much as phase me anymore) to which I once again responded with mock sorrow and sarcasm, and we continued our friendship largely unhindered. I felt a bit sorry for myself, getting rejected twice by 2 close friends and making life awkward, but I didn't really get hung up on it. I mean, it's not like I actually expected to succeed – I was the boy everybody called a "trap" because I looked and spoke femininely. Guys often had to clarify that they were in the right bathroom when they saw me there. I didn't know why anyone would date me – in their position, I certainly wouldn't! So I became jealous of my friends, for looking like their own gender, for being able to succeed romantically. What's the point, you may be asking, to all of this? Well, this mindset took me over for a bit. What's really important here is what encouraged me to break it. And surprisingly, it was actually April and Rebecca who finally got me to. As luck would have it, they had both rejected me partly because they were interested in someone else. Specifically, they were interested in each other. How's that for a plot twist, huh? ... • 4. Descriptive Essay On Gymnastics Gymnastics was a big part of my life and I was very excited when I got my first complicated skill it had taken me about 2 years to get the skill. It was Saturday and my day started off by eating some breakfast, my mom had made pancakes and bacon and they were delicious. I finished off my breakfast and my dad told me to go get ready because we were going to run some errands and so I did, I picked out this red shirt with free shoulder it was kind of big on me so, it looked like a dress but I liked it that way, to go with the long red shirt. I picked out some black tights because they seemed comfy. On my hair, I did a half up half down with a bun at the top and I got my favorite brown sandals and put them on. Before my family left I had to do my bed, because my dad said, if I kept my room clean all year I would be able to get a new phone, I cleaned my bed and rushed out the door. When my family and I were in the car, my dad started singing and I was cringing so hard but, I didn't tell him anything because that would be rude. We stopped at Winco to get groceries. My brother was excited because whenever we went to the grocery store he would get a bar of candy. This time it wasn't any different, we bought the food and went to pay my job was always to put the groceries into the bags which is fun. We headed into the car and my parents loaded the groceries into the trunk. We started driving into the mall, so I could buy some shorts for summer, because all I had were pants. We ... • 5. The Primary Causes Of Mass School Shootings In America Mass school shootings have become a disturbing trend in this country in the last two decades. According to the FBI, mass shootings (defined as shooting events that kill at least four people) occur approximately every two weeks in the United States (Manson). This baffling trend has left families and communities devastated with some having no concrete answers as to why exactly they lost their loved ones to these tragedies. Why have there been so many school shootings recently? Questions such as this must be answered, and they must be answered soon. My answer to this problem is that the media spends far too much time covering these incidents and gives the killers the attention they seek. If they simply stop giving the killers that attention, the number of school shooting will drastically decrease. After every school shooting, most people can personally witness how certain parties and groups jump in and use the tragedy to promote their suggestions or push their political agendas. During this time, gun control advocates campaign for stricter gun laws. Mental health advocates use this chance to bring up the faults within our healthcare system. Although these groups do bring up some valid arguments, none of them can be labeled as the primary cause of so many school shootings. I believe the reason that is to blame for the majority of these school shootings is the insane media coverage of the shootings and the killers because it gives the killers the attention that they seek. • 6. My College Experience : The Best Experience In College I was always told that the time spent in college is some of the best of your life, that the friends you make will last a lifetime, that you can truly be yourself in college. So far that has yet to be proved true, its not to say that college has been the worst experience of my life but I have yet to find my place. When I look around at others it seems they already have a place, and not wanting to bel left out I have began to play the role of someone that truly belongs. My performance as Goffman would call it is a form of impression management, but it is no less me than me in other situations. " The self... is not an organic thing that has a specific loctation whose fundamental fate is to be born to mature and to die: it is a dramatic effect arising diffusely from a scene that is presented" (Goffman) The self I present is my front, it is a combination of the setting, my mannerisms and my appearance. The setting informs the definition of the situation, different situations invoke different presentation of selves. In a college setting one is expected to fit in, to have friends, to go out, have fun and to be yourself. Apparence are clothing choices, makeup accessories, and mannerisms are the small habits picked up to enforce the impression of your self. At college I have tried to portray a well adjusted student, who has found her place and always has something to do. To create my outgoing image I try to be in my dorm room as little as possible. This can be easily achieved during the weekdays, I have classes through part of the day and the rest of the day can be spent at a table doing work. It is also easy to spend the night at the library and come home at 12 or 1. The weekend provides a harder challenge, especially the nights. Working every Friday night was a blessing in disguise, what I once thought would be a chore, became a reason to be gone most of Friday and return to the dorm after my roommate has left for the night. At that point it is easy to change into clothes one would wear going out, that way when my roommate returns it looks like I too have had a blast on a Friday night. Saturday then becomes the more challenging day, and night. During the day I can explore Carlsile or evn try to sleep in as late as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Personal Narrative: Junior High School At twelve–years–old, starting Junior High was struggle for me. It wasn't because anyone was bullying me or because my friends left me and I was surrounded with drama, it was actually personal inflictions. Junior High was stressful, the natural fear of not being accepted at me, a few months before my dear friend Ruby moved from Clovis to San Francisco. It was all just a lot, and in sixth grade I felt a little... betrayed by my long time guy friend. It hurt to know we'd never be friends again, no matter how hard I wanted to start over. That, and just being a normal teenage girl, I was often feeling misunderstood and under deep pressure from my family. How many? A terrifying total of seven. Oh my goodness how I flipped! BUT, luckily in a way, it took us four more months to actually find someone who'd accept medical. It wasn't until I told my aunt, "I really want to get my teeth fixed and want to smile like a normal person can," did she call up one of her own dentist's and assign me an appointment! Now the true, terrifying terrors kick in.. They sent us to yet another dentist, who FINALLY set up a date to extract my teeth, which happened to be August 4. We went at 5 PM, my mom, my grandma, and I, and it didn't take more than five minutes before the called me in for the procedure. • 8. College Admissions Essay: Why I Want To Study Art Since I was a young girl, I've loved to make things. I was often found doodling intricate patterns all over my notes, crafting collages out of magazine clippings, molding cities out of playdough, and making beautifully detailed cards out of paper. I would draw from life with an imaginative twist, as well as frequently sketch from my manikin. I could spend hours on a smalldrawing assignment for English. I would lose myself in the enjoyment. Last year, I was given a life changing opportunity to take free portrait drawing classes. To my surprise, I was actually quite good. My success in this class inspired me to sign up for more MCAD classes over the summer, specifically painting and comic book art. This sparked a fiery passion in me. I began to draw daily. It made me feel so good about myself to do art again. I felt I was doing what I am meant to do. I enjoy every aspect of making art. Even though I don't "enjoy" struggling, I take it on gladly because I know it will help me improve. I'm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel begins as a frame narrative (introduces the story within a story) as Amir reflects on the past. It appears that he will do so with an adult understanding of the events. Winter often symbolizes death, creating an ominous setting to begin the story. The connotation of the words "frigid" and "overcast" establishes a despairing tone. Therefore, the allusion to ... Chapter 1 the author describes the most important climax of the drama, the date also displays a significant meaning to Amir because it shows how long the struggle has lasted. –Amir metaphorically continues looking into the alley where Assef raped Hassan, which means he was reminded of the event in his mind "Because the truth of it was, I always felt like Baba hated me a little. Like when Carson says he worked the chuck wagons for the railroad, looking back at what chuck wagons were, they were the food trucks of that time. So looking back to see what that looked like and how the kitchen was setup on a chuck wagon is fun! Playing a period piece is a whole different thing. • 12. Is Meritocracy Is Meritocracy Actually As Fair As It Sounds? Those who deserve to, succeed, and those who succeed, deserve to. People have to earn everything they have and, no matter where they start, as long as they work hard they can get anywhere they want to go. An extreme form of the 'American Dream'. But while it is most definitely all of these things listed above, is a meritocracy actually as fair as it sounds? In order for a meritocracy to work, everyone would have to start on a level playing field in terms of race, wealth, and neighborhood to have the same opportunity to earn their success. But, to get to this point, wealth would have to be redistributed and races would have to be seen as perfectly equal to each other, which seems difficult in the current society of the world where stigmas and stereotypes surround certain races and topics. According to a writer in The Atlantic Monthly, even just the myth of meritocracy, or the relative truth of it, can have a negative effect on colored children. For example, Dasani is an 11 year old African–American girl living in "a decrepit city–run shelter for the homeless" in New York (Elliot). It is obviously no place for a child. Dasani, however, is quite smart and is described by her principal as "the kind of girl who could be anything– even a Supreme Court justice– if only she harnesses her gifts early enough". Just as doing anything about my drinking or my character defects, my willingness to make proper amends only came when I was hurting, when I was disturbed enough to become willing to do something about it. That my drinking, character defects and harms done affected other people was no prompt to get me into action. I became motivated not because an amend was due but because I was hurting. Am I selfish, self–seeking and self–centred? Yes you betcha. Another example of an amend done for the wrong reasons and in the wrong way was one I did out of guilt for harms done to my brother, happily joined up with feelings of superiority towards him – I wasn't drinking and doing well, he was drinking and financially in a bad way. I only became willing to make one amend that was definitely due when I saw the person I had harmed at a meeting and felt bad. This time I checked with my sponsor that my motives were true. On this occasion there was fear on my part as my amend involved admitting to a criminal act. However by this time I had a Higher Power in my life and knew I had to do the right thing just because it was the right thing to do. But I also knew that if I didn't it would always be lurking about in my head waiting to rear its ugly head. By this time I could trust that whatever the outcome I would cope with it if I didn't drink and kept it in the day. Nervously I made the amend and it was received in the spirit that was intended. The willingness to make another amend came through fear. Rose was the epitome of lower–class pomp and circumstance, so to speak. Her eye–catching garb and scandalous style seemed to demand the attention of the room. It mirrored her gang perfectly. Jerrette Lee II Professor Neterer Music 050 6 December 2016 "The Electronic Sound" In a world of massive technological development, the expansion of the "electric sound" and the growing cultural society behind it have led to the construction of a number of prominent digitally devised genres seen worldwide. This new music has taken a rise of popularity at an exponential rate and has been accepted and adapted culturally in the mass majorities of today's population. Though the music today has its different and specific sound to it, some of the original qualities still are very prominent in the genre of the now. To bridge the connection between the initial electronic sound and the contemporary take on it, one could look at groups who currently practice this music, such as the University of Pennsylvania's student DJ group dubbed "The Collectve", and compare the quality and details of their music with artists and groups existing in the birth age of electronic music and continuing through the its progression until the current state. This, in addition to reviewing the global expansion and acceptance of the genre worldwide throughout the years, will collectively work towards summarizing what EDM/house music is as a whole. To fully understand the present forms of electronic music one must look back at the origins of the sound entirely. Without question, I rapidly went to fetch some water for Taylor, but as I was doing that, George Washington graciously walked straight into my house! I could not believe this. • 25. The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin The term "irony" is not easy to define perhaps because it is largely misunderstood. For instance, there are some people who use the term "irony" interchangeably with "misfortune" or the term "ironic" with "cynical." Oftentimes, literature is an excellent teacher about what certain terms mean. Indeed, Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" and Edward Arlington Robinson's "Miniver Cheevy" seem to provide excellent insight as to what "irony" truly means. In addition to these, scrutiny of Lawrence Berkove's analysis of Chopin's "The Story of an Hour", provides deeper enlightenment. After reading these literary pieces, it becomes evident that irony refers to the contrast between people's perceptions of truth and reality, as in Miniver Cheevy "The Story of an Hour" and Berkove's "Fatal Self–Assertion In Kate Chopin's 'The Story Of An Hour'"; and, when a character states something that he or she believes to be true but the reader knows is actually false, such as in Miniver Cheevy. Irony occurs when there is a mismatch between what certain people believe to be true and what reality truly is. In "The Story of an Hour," Mrs. Mallard experiences a triumphant feeling after hearing the news that her husband was killed in an accident. After a brief moment of grief, Mrs. Mallard realizes that with her husband's death, she is "Free. Body and Soul, free" (338). Now I am referred to as the girl with all the answers yet I never know how to answer my own questions. They know I work hard. They know I want to be here. So why was that an issue 4 years ago? Why was the desire to succeed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Volkswagen 's Impact On The World 's Best Known Car... I. Volkswagen is one of the world's best–known car manufacturers; unfortunately it has damaged its credibility and reputation with the recent emission scandal that the company was involved in. Volkswagen failed in establishing the triple bottom line, social responsibility, and sustainability. The long and commonly held belief was that the only responsibility of business was to maximize the wealth of its shareholders. Today, however, companies must be socially responsible and focus on what is now called the "Triple Bottom Line" that is compromised of: environment, economy and people. All of this ties into the sustainability goals that companies are now setting for themselves to show the public that the firm is socially responsible. Recently, Volkswagenhas been the center of controversy, because their diesel engines had a device that could detect when they were being tested and change their performance to improve the results. Volkswagen's recent debacle has highlighted how failing to be socially responsible can come back to haunt a company. The emissions–cheating scandal that Volkswagen was caught in hurt the German carmaker's image, brand and reputation. Before the scandal, the general public held the Volkswagen brand in high esteem. Volkswagen has been a car brand that has been known for its reliability and quality. However, in light of the scandal, Volkswagen received a plethora of negative media exposure. A Reuters article stated that the Volkswagen could do harm to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Art Teacher Entered The Classroom Frank looked up as the art teacher entered the classroom. What was he doing here? This was English, not art. "Do you have Iero?" Mr Way, the art teacher, asked the English teacher, Mr Brown. Frank 's eyes widened, not expecting that. "Frank 's in here." Mr Brown said, all heads turning to him. Frank blushed. Mr Way looked at Frank for a little while and nodded his head to the door. "Come with me." Frank nodded, scrambling to his feet and following the tall teacher. Seriously, Frank was really short. He looked up at Mr Way, feeling a bit anxious. The thing was, was that Mr Way fucking scared Frank. He wasn 't intimidating in any way, and always joked around with the kids, but Frank was just terrified at the mere thought of talking to him. Mr Way 's voice snapped Frank back to reality. "Do you know what class Toro and Ballato are in right now?" "Uh, Ray 's in literature, I think? And Lindsey 's in chemistry..." Frank said, trailing off. Mr Way nodded, looking at Frank. "Don 't be so nervous, now. You 're not in trouble." Frank wanted to say, "that 's not the reason I 'm nervous," but decided to instead laugh a bit and nod. "Follow me." Mr Way said, beckoning Frank with his hand. They made it to literature and chemistry, gathering the three kids and the art teacher in the middle of the hallway outside of Mr Brown 's room. "Alright. You aren 't in trouble," Mr Way eyed Frank, then, quickly averting his gaze to the other two students, continued talking. "you three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of the characters are trying to find more about themselves whether it be their new environment they need to adapt to, or just purely trying to figure out their purpose. Cam is trying to discover himself and he quite often he will "[trace] the lines" of himself. Literally feeling how he is made and not being able to grasp it fully. This represents the discovery factor, of him trying to find out more about himself, and later his purpose. The envy factor is prominent in most of the characters in which each of them has some source of rage or hatred for motivation. Dominantly Starkey but it is seen in all figures. He's described as a "murderer" and "no stranger to criminal activity." These are characteristics which usually come from anger and envy of others. This builds a strong foundation for his actions and many others as well. I thought it was weird; he was only 17 and scream therapy is usually when you reenact a particularly disturbing past experience occurring early in life. Presumably, I figured he might have been six or seven when this horrendous event happened, but by the sound of it, this, this was much bigger than dropped cookies and lost dinosaurs. These screams; they sound as if he has still been living in his own misery. Louis did not come to school on Monday, or Tuesday for that matter. I didn't even hear his screams on those two mornings; I figured he was done with it, but just my luck. On Wednesday, the 8th, Louis practiced his therapy right on schedule, 7:02 A.M. Being the person I am, I knew it wasn't a coincidence. I needed answers, but it would be weird to just ask him right? I started pacing and strategizing ways for the topic to come up. Would I actually have to become friends with him? Would he actually have to become friends with me? Louis missed French that morning. He never missed French. It was his favorite subject; I mean, why wouldn't it be? He 's from France; the dudes got the highest grade in the class. He never missed a moment to correct our mistakes, he was kind of a social pariah. Half of the time nobody could even understand what he was saying, he always mumbled French stuff under his breath. • 33. Essay On Siemens Scandal At first Siemens downplayed the affair saying that it was only a matter of a few millions Euros. However within a month their own estimate skyrocketed up to an amount of 420 million Euros. Furthermore Klaus Kleinfeld the then recently installed CEO, denied awareness or involvement. Siemens' first statements were exemplary of an ill–suited cursory attempting to downplay a developing scandal prematurely. This tactic appeared egoistical and lacked moral responsibility. It also damaged stakeholders' impressions of Siemens' integrity and in general damaged its reputation in the public eye. Many viewed this defensive acknowledgement as incompetent. Then however Senior Executives made public pledges to restore the firm's battered reputation just a month later.Siemens mandated the New York law firm Debevoise and Plimpton LLP and several... What was especially remarkable was the fact that not individual but systemic elements contributed to this scandal. These include: a too aggressive growth strategy that portrayed bribes as a " tempting short–cut" to hitting though performance targets; minimal oversight from HQ due to the fact that the de–centralised, matrix–like structure allowed divisions to effectively run themselves above all, it is a well known fact that Siemens' corporate culture at the time which seemed openly tolerant of such ... The question then becomes: are the numerous options a help or a hindrance? In an article from The Atlantic, writer Lan Wallace discusses the issue surrounding what is termed "choice overload." The research reviewed today explores this question and explores how the results could impact how businesses and other institutions choose to approach increasingly saturated markets. The author, Lan Wallace, of the article "Toothpaste, Dating and Data: The Hazards of Too Much Choice", uses the title alone to imply that an abundance of choices is negative or should be seen as a threat. And the dependent variable was the motivation to make the choice of which jam to purchase. Iyengar and Lapper conducted quantitative research. They did this by observing the customers, recording how many sampled and how many followed through to commitment by purchasing jam. They also measured those that walked away. Iyengar's sample was primarily middle aged Caucasians, 62 percent of whom were female. At the times in which the jams were displayed there were 386 shoppers present. Of those, 260 actually engaged the display. The media did in fact stretch the generalizability since the sampled population was not very diverse. With most of the sample being middle aged Caucasian females, who were likely of similar socioeconomic status. The study was done at a high end market in California. Part of the reason for the generalization is attributed to the work of Barry Schwartz, who first introduced the idea of the "paradox of choice." Schwartz's teachings infiltrated the media, in turn promoting the stretching of this samples' generalizability. The study is experimental. They did the experiment in a natural environment, attempting to make it as ordinary as possible so they did it at a market in California that regularly has and offers samples. They were two groups one that offered 6 types of jams and another that offered 24 types of jams. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I lived next door to her, I would watch her upon nights and day in my window, brushing her silk hair as if it needed brushing, she seemed so lost, she seemed indelicate, but I never knew her, It was impossible to say she is a witch, with long hair and indifferent eyes, they seemed brown, but they had mystery in them, her face pale enough to call them dry snow as if she wasn't even living, trapped . she lived in the north side and her house was painted in a very curious dark blue, there seemed to be no plain living thing, her land contained not a strand of green grass growing, usually I wondered when I reached my door and seem rather odd to me, but was I curious enough, not at all I had heard stories about her, she seduced men and they never came out of the house every again. I look back at it not with disappointment but with the recognition that I can't multi–task two major time–consuming activities. I was working 5–9pm, 6 days a week was physically and mentally exhausting I would always come to school tired. I would be tardy and or late every day in my 1st hour. • 39. Oppression And Identity In The Story Of An Hour By Mrs.... All throughout history, people have faced different types of oppression. During the Holocaust, Jewish citizens were forced into internment camps because of their religion. In the 1960s, African Americans faced daily prejudice from their white counterparts. Even today, in places like, modern –day Iran, people are tortured and killed because of their sexual orientation. Societal standards and social norms forced these people into a corner, preventing the majority from being able to express their opinions. Those who were able to voice their beliefs, although possibly receiving backlash, have been able to inspire a new wave of thought, helping our society evolve to be more open and accepting of different people. In the short story, "The Story of an Hour", Mrs. Mallard feels the pressures from society to be a stereotypical woman. She feels oppressed by her husband, who she has had to revolve her life around for so long. On top of this, she has a heart condition, preventing her from being able to seek out opportunities and live for herself. After learning of her husband's death, Mrs. Mallard goes through a wave of different emotions, in which she realizes without her husband by her side she can live the way she wants to. In "The Story of an Hour", Mrs. Mallard encompasses the themes of oppression and identity through her initial reaction to her husband's death, her thoughts during the hour, and her own death. The wind as cold as ice with the howling sound of wolves in the background. It was almost pretty peaceful and quiet except for the sounds of nature. My friends and I were camping by a campfire sharing scary stories. Our parents were gone to refill gas and get more food. "We won't be gone that long, just to resupply our needs, that's all," said my mom before they left, but I knew that leaving us alone by ourselves was a bad idea. "Hey Allen, what're you thinking about?" asked Justin right in the middle of sharing his scary story. See, Justin looks like one of those high school jocks who would have easily bullied someone with his stocky build, and he's pretty tall. Of course, with all this physique, he is an athlete at almost every sport ever made. "Nothing important," I said quickly. Yet, it wasn't nothing. At age 7, I was at my father's farm helping my dad do lawn work, and then theman came. The man had menacing features with his kabuki mask, 2 foot machete, and wearing all–black clothing. I stood in shock and didn't know what to do until he said, 'I'm coming for you.' His voice deep and hollow which perfectly matches his disguise. Ever since then, I'm still anxious of his appearance.
