What Are The Five Core Ethical Principles
There are five core ethical principles. The first one is beneficence, it is the action that is done for the
benefit of others, which should be taken to help prevent or remove harms or to simply improve the
situation of others (Pantilat, 2008)). In United Airline's case, specifically for the case happened on
April 9 2017, in order to accommodate crew members, the flight needed to select four customers
and asked them to take the next flight. Dr. David Dao was randomly picked and been violently
dragged out by security officers. The security officers dragged Dr. David Dao by his arms and legs
down the aisle and off the Louisville, Kentucky– bound flight before it took off at Chicago O' Hare
International Airport. Dao was left bloodied and bruised

Southern Women During The Civil War Analysis
Historians of the Southern woman during the Civil War can come to no agreement concerning the
nature and the role of women in the conflict. According to A.P. Jones, author of The Flower of
Southern Womanhood, Southern women a hundred years ago were "lazy, spoiled, and beautiful"
(22). They cared only for themselves and subordinated their children, their husbands, and their
servants to their own interest s (22). Historians Harvey Lowe, on the other hand, contends that
Southern women were energetic, intelligent, and "well–trained in domestic and public service" (66).
Although not as beautiful as had been assumed, they were of high character. As one article puts it,
"The spiritual faith of the Southern Southern woman is said to have sustained

Under The Dome Stephen King
Stephen King's Under the Dome presents a unique story that is both thought provoking and
entertaining. The introduction of the dome creates compelling social dynamics that would otherwise
not have been possible. In many ways the dome is a microcosm of earth complete with its own
conflicts, environmental disasters, and just about every social issue imaginable. The alien entities
were equally thought provoking. From their perspective humans were nothing more than ants to be
toyed with. They had no empathy or compassion, only pity. Julia Shumway's interaction with the
entity causes an introspective evaluation on how we treat other people.
James "Big Jim" Rennie steals the show as the novel's villain. Rennie is a bit of a paradox. On one

Moral Duty In 'Firestorm And The Immigrant'
Word Count (598)
Science fiction is a genre of speculative fiction which allows us as readers to contemplate grand
religious concepts such as moral duty and G–d's will as we vicariously live through fictitious
characters in dystopian societies or remarkable situations. Such concepts are explored in "The
Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Attwood, Canticles for Leibowitz" by Walter Miller, and
"Contamination" by Richard Bowker as moral duty is contemplated, while in "Firestorm" by Steve
Tem and "The Emigrant" by Joel Rosenberg, G–d's plan is explored.
Protagonists in works of science fiction are often faced with moral dilemmas brought about by
dystopian societies. In "The Handmaid's Tale", the protagonist Offred and her husband Luke are
forced to flee their home as Congress is taken over by the military regime of the Christian
fundamentalists of Gilead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this extreme situation, Luke takes the cat into the garage and kills her while Offred
remains in their living room. She reflects on how "she should have at least have asked him about it
afterwards, so he didn't have to carry it alone (Attwood 192)". This ethical dilemma causes her guilt
and is a direct effect of the dystopian society of Gilead which forces its residents to make these
unbearable decisions. Similarly, in "Canticles for Leibowitz" set in the year 3781, nuclear
explosions begin to erupt as part of a war and a Doctor Cors opens a relief camp in an abbey. He
meets a mother and child who suffer from radiation sickness and decides to administer them
euthanasia as he doesn't want "to live as the torturer of that woman and that child (Miller 565)." The
dystopian world he lives in full of nuclear radiation compels him to break his promise to the abbey

Can the Bombing of Dresden Be Justified
Can the bombing of Dresden be justified?
Dresden was Germanys 7th largest city at the time of the war. Historically, Dresden had been
northern Germany's cultural centre – a city filled with museums and historic buildings. The
Frauenkirche Cathedral was one of the world's famous buildings. Dresden was also an extremely
important industrial area, which was something that the allies really did not want, but before
February 1945 Dresden was a peaceful country and there were not any threats from the British yet.,
Many refugees had fled to Dresden from the east because of the Soviet Union's attack; therefore
making it harder to find the actual figure of people who died. At 10 p.m. on Tuesday 13 February
1945, the first British marker flares ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise we shall come into control of an utterly ruined land." by Winston Churchill, 28 march
1945.
Although there are other reasons that come through that make the bombing of Dresden seem like an
unnecessary part of the war effort. In the first place Britain did not even start the war. In 1919 Ital,
England, France, and U.S came to an agreement that Germany had to pay for all the damage they
did in the First World War. When Hitler heard of this he started organising an army, air force and
started making allies, like Mussillon's Italy. Six months later Hitler breaks the treaty and starts
another war.
Germany withdrew from the Geneva disarmament conference, which meant they refused to support
a British proposal that air bombing be banned. Dresden was also a very important rail centre for
moving troops, concentration camp prisoners and war material but it would be no good if the allies
destroyed the buildings and factories, because if there will be, still human's; they can rebuild it. The
war factories of Dresden employed around 10,000 people, many of which lived in the very centre of
the city.
The Russians were asking for help from Britain and the u.s.a because Dresden was too close to the
Russian front line. The number of people that died shows clearly how the Nazi's failed to provide
air–raid shelter. People

Gentrification And Income Inequality
The classism that gentrification brings into communities cannot be understated, simply because it is
one of the negative driven byproducts of it, because when individuals are forced to see homes in
their respective communities go for 2 to 3 times the market value for what they were previously
going for, it sends the message that those within a higher income bracket are able to dictate the set
prices in real estates. Furthermore, this financial inequality goes beyond just the housing market.
Areas that have seen the wholesale installment of the businesses that stem from gentrification are
often overlooked and not taken in consideration when it comes to the prices set by them. It is almost
as if these independent coffee shops, Whole Foods Markets,

Nuclear Radiation and Fallout Effects
The Fallout
If a nuclear fallout were to occur, the earth would turn into a radiated wasteland. The earth would be
essentially non–liveable, but it could be possible to survive. People, with the help of fallout shelters
and bunkers, would be able to survive the initial attack and quite possibly live in the shelters until
the radiation has dropped to a level in which they can survive.
Now, the difference between a nuclear explosion and a convention explosion is that a nuclear
explosion can be thousands, or even millions of times more powerful than the largest conventional
detonations. There are a few different places a nuclear weapon can erupt at. These explosions are
called air, high–altitude, underwater, underground, and surface ... Show more content on

Bunkers and shelters all over the world would be packed with as many people as they can fit and
some would be overrun with hoards of people trying to get in. The world would panic and do what
they think would help them survive. The initial attack of a nuclear weapon would be catastrophic.
The blast of these bombs would cause massive destruction. City areas would be completely
destroyed by overpressures of 5 psi. These explosions can produce around an overpressure of 50 psi.
If an explosion occurs above ground, the blast wave is reflected off the ground, causing a second
wave to follow the first. Behind the blast wave comes the thermal radiation; two pulses of thermal
radiation emerge from the explosion. The first pulse consists of radiation in the ultraviolet region,
and the second pulse carries around ninety–nine percent of the thermal radiation energy. Along with
the thermal radiation is the fireball, an extremely hot and spherical mass of air, which occurs in less
than one millionth of a second of detonation and continues to grow in size. The fireball will grow
and cool down, then the vapors condense to create a cloud containing solid particles of the weapons
debris. This cloud is widely know as "The Mushroom Cloud". In some conditions, the many fires
created by the explosion can turn into a massive fire known as a "Firestorm".

Western Montana Fires
Final Report: The Fires of 1910: The Big Burn
In the summer of 1910 Northern Idaho and Western Montana were hit by what seemed like a never
ending series of destructive forest fires. With the spring bringing hardly any rainfall and drying
winds from the Columbia plains, creeks began to disappear and the montane forests became dry.
Intense heat along with high winds and dry vegetation create the perfect environment for forest fires.
In June and July several dry electric storms hit the mountains and fires began to develop in isolated
corners of the forest. The U.S. Forest Service which had just been developed in 1905 consisted of
forest rangers on horseback climbing the mountains and protecting the forest from fires (Bergoffen,
1976). As the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry Graves the chief of the Forest Service in 1910 believed that fire can be defeated and worked
with the state and private associations to fight fires by starting a fire protection campaign that would
eventually lead to the creation of Smokey Bear. He created the national forest policy for the United
States and in 1911 The Weeks Act was created which allowed the federal government to purchase
private lands and forests (Graves, 1919). In 1915 the Forest Service Research Branch was created in
order to find the best ways to manage national forests and to study the different trees and plants so
that reseeding and replanting of the forest could be done. Another important figure was Ranger Ed
Pulaski who is considered to be one of the heroes of the 1910 fires. Pulaski invented one of the most
famous firefighting tools that are still used today known as the "Pulaski". The Pulaski is a tool that is
both an axe and a grub hoe and is a useful tool in fighting wildfires. The fires of 1910 set in motion
numerous improvements in the Forest Service and in large part allowed for the creation of the
National Parks we enjoy today. As the biggest wildfire in history "It managed to burn its way
through public indifference and to emerge as what most conservationists consider a charred but
positive landmark along the road to forest protection" (Peterson, 1995). The fires

represents about 10 %. Additionally, Mylan's sales revenue from two pack EpiPen is approximately
45%, which covers manufacturing, distributing, enhancing, and investing in future development of
high–quality products.
We need to reaffirm our position as a company delivering high–quality products. One of our
competitors suffered from product recall due to possibility of delivering incorrect dosage. The rest
our competing products captured only about 7% of market share due to reluctance of customer
switching products. Therefore, this is an evidence of our customer trusting and preferring our
EpiPen over competing products.
Doing our art in saving lives, we have increased an access to EpiPen by issuing a saving card to
users that will effectively cut the cost of two pack EpiPen by $300. In addition, we have doubled the

Daniel Bukvich Symphony 1 Description
For my final project I chose to write this essay analyzing the piece Symphony No. 1 (In Memoriam
Dresden, 1945) by Daniel Bukvich. There are several aspects that drew me to this piece. I originally
heard this piece last summer at a concert performed here at UNI when I came to visit. I have always
been intrigued by history and this song portrayed a very deep historical meaning. For this reason, I
chose to analyze this piece not only musically but through a historical lens.
Imagine a horrible firestorm of death and destruction now imagine that scene put into music. This is
exactly what Symphony #1 by Daniel Bukvich attempts to do. He uses music in a way to portray a
picture that many of us cannot even imagine. Hours of listening and studying ... Show more content

The bombing of Dresden took place during the second world war between February 13 and 15,
1945. Prior to this time Germany had held a practice of bombing British cities to create chaos and to
break the British Moral in hopes of forcing the British to surrender. This approach had not been
successful up until this point. Both the allied and axis powers soon took up the bombing of industrial
cities. The main goal of these bombings was for the most part to disrupt communication, and
production of materials necessary for the war. The secondary objective was to disrupt moral of the
people hoping that they would push back against the government pressuring them into surrendering.
Dresden was a major cultural and geographical epicenter. During this time Dresden was a major
center for refugees fleeing the on pushing Soviet Union. The bombing of Dresden helped to prove to
the Soviet Union that the rest of the allied powers would support them with air support. However,
the controversy of Dresden arises from the fact that the allied powers claimed Dresden was a major
industrial center with major production centers for war goods. However, Germany claims that
Dresden had no industry whatsoever. The issue arises that there is no definitive proof either way.
The issue that arises from this is the claim that the allied powers bombed Dresden for the sole
purpose of murder of citizens for morale reasons. In 1945 Dresden had become a major center for
refugees fleeing from the Russian army. The bombing in theory would cause massive chaos among
civilians disrupting troop advancements to and from the front. Either way the Bombing of Dresden
was massively destructive killing many people. On the thirteenth two waves of bombers dropped
bombs on the city. The first wave used high explosive to uncover the wooden frames to buildings.
Once the wood was exposed a second wave of bombings used incendiary bombs to burn the wood.

Popular Toys Effect On Children
Popular toys have an effect on the media. Take for example, Toy Story a popular childrens movie
that featured many toys as protagonist in the story and see how the movie had an effect on the toys
that were being sold. If it was not for the movie, then the Toy Story toys would not have sold nearly
as well as if they were in the movie. According to the article,Social media firestorm awakens
toymakers to an absent Rey, it states,¨ Twitter exploded with the hashtag #WheresRey¨.In the movie
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey was the leading character in the movie. Fans who have watched
the movie knew this because they went and watched the movie. From the trailers it seemed as if Rey
was going to be a small character in the movie where she actually was the hero that went and saved
the day. Exampling from the article stated above, Disney was holding back on the Rey toys to avoid
giving away a key plot point to the fans of the Star Wars movie.

Nafta Pros And Cons
The North American Free Trade Agreement is one of the more interesting topics which I almost
chose myself. The agreement itself has become a political firestorm due to the most recent
presidential election and has almost sealed the fate of the Trans Pacific Partnership free trade
agreement. When NAFTA was passed it seemed like there were only weak arguments against it and
nothing but benefits from all three participating countries would occur. Anyone can see that the
gross domestic product and tax revenues generated from all three countries has had a significant
boost as pointed out by Ian and his sources(de Mestral, 2011). However, I looked at the overall
United States labor participation rate since the 1950's and a steady decline occurs

Dropping Of Nagasaki Research Paper
Dropping of the bomb– Nagasaki
On August 9th, 1945 at 11:02 A.M., another B–29 bomber, Bock's Car, piloted by Charles Sweeney
was sent by the United States to drop over Nagasaki. The bomb, called Fat Man, was dropped
because of the devastation at Hiroshima being insufficient in persuading the Japanese War Council
to accept Potsdam Conference's demand for unconditional surrender. Planning to drop the atomic
bomb on August 11th, the United States had to push forward the date to August 9th because of bad
weather. At 1:56 A.M., Bock's Car took off, dropping the bomb at 11:02 A.M. at 1650 feet above the
city. The equivalent force of the atomic bomb explosion was equal to 22,000 tons of TNT. Although
the surrounding hills around Nagasaki contained a good amount of the destructive force, about
60,000 to 80,000 people were killed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It weighed 10,800 lbs, and had a length of 10 ft 8 in with a 60 inch diameter. The bomb was roughly

Essay On The Fire
Growing up there were two buildings that caught fire along our block on the same side just four
doors down in each direction. Both occurred at night displacing families that saw the buildings
boarded up with fresh plywood that never quite did cover all the black tinge of the flames that tore
through the windows.
It stayed that way for some time accompanied by that exclusive and ever–present burnt odor that
wafted through the neighborhood reminding everyone of the destructive force of fire. For a young
boy, it was intimidating and made the prayer that surrounded the light switch to my bedroom all the
more significant: "Bless this house oh Lord I pray, make it safe through night and day."

Militant environmentalists armed with a plethora of lawsuits have been the log jam that has
prevented loggers from our nation's woodlands. Without appropriate logging management in place,
forests become overgrown and destabilized and when faced with the deadly duo of drought and
lightning strikes, woodlands become susceptible to igniting into towering infernos.
Federal firefighters are often successful in knocking down these conflagrations and throughout the
years have become victims of their own success as much biomass underbrush has not only
remained, but multiplied. All that does is become the kindling for the next, inescapable bout of
forest fire.
For more than a century, the standing federal policy has been to extinguish all fires. Let it burn is
completely left out of the equation. In fact, such thinking is an anathema to any seasoned firefighter.
According to one longtime, prominent fire official, Greg Fabrizo of Coal Township, PA, "a
controlled fire can be the most capable and cost–effective means available for managing
woodlands."
If the federal government had allowed a place like Yellowstone to have contained burns when fire
does irrupt, they would have avoided their biblical–like conflagration that provided so much
destruction back in 1990.
Let it burn should be law. Healthy forests need to burn on a semi–regular basis. If they don't, they
are nothing but firestorms in waiting.

Force Awakens. Recently, what has shocked so many people is that in the game, Monopoly/Star
Wars the protagonist (Rey) was not included into this version of Monopoly. I think that the most
important movie characters, especially the protagonist of the story, should appear in these toys or
games. As the article "Asleep at the switch? 'Force Awakens' heroine missing from toy lines" states,

Rah reference of Dr. Martin Luther King's letter, shows, "The deep levels of racism, cultural
insensitivity, and cultural incompetence have yielded a deep–seated rift between different
communities in the United States. Not only have explicit examples of racism generated animosity
and mistrust, but implicit approval of racism and a passive inactivity toward injustice have
perpetuated the racial divide." The knee goes deeper as this divide happens in America.
When the knee goes deeper, what did it say about racial matters? If the justice system had been fair
in its' assessments of the incidents that happened across America, there would not be a movement of
black lives matter. If the justice system would have shown that all lives matter when an officer is
negligent with the discharge of their weapons against a twelve–year–old boy playing with a toy gun
in a park, and then found not negligible, all lives did not matter. In the documentary, "The Color of
Fear," Victor makes a good analogy about the white experience. Victory states, "What is the white
experience? When I look at you manifesting your white experience, I also see you not naming it. I
see you just want to blur the distinction between just being a person and also most particularly being
a white person and what that means." Regrettably, Victor's statement shows that people of color are

A Disastrous Result Of The Atomic Bomb
However, notwithstanding the horrifying and destructive nature of these results, there is yet another
extremely disastrous result of the atomic bomb: the firestorm. The thermal radiation from the
explosion ignites countless fires on all flammable surfaces within a wide radius. Furiously
overturning fire hazards such as stoves, heaters, and furnaces as well as rupturing gas lines and
causing short circuits, the blast wave intensifies the already precarious situation. Indeed, the blast
wave also breaks windows and blows in fire shutters, which causes better ventilation for the fires.
The debris from all the fallen buildings creates much more vulnerable fuel for the fire as well. When
all of these individual fires started by the combined efforts

Literary Techniques In Cormac Mccarthy's The Road
Cormac McCarthy's The Road is a post–apocalyptic novel that uses a literary style that most authors
do not dare to use when writing. McCarthy's style is very mysterious, given that he doesn't give the
main character's names at any point and his use of grammar is unorthodox. The lack of quotation
marks when characters are speaking adds a certain wispy quality to the book. McCarthy's technique
unquestionably enhances the book's eerie aura; post–apocalyptic novels can often be overdone or
predictable, but The Road was not.
The story is about a man and his young son traveling on a road after firestorms have scourged the
land, destroying civilization. McCarthy does an exceptional job of showing their fight for survival as

Incredibly Close And A Farewell To Arms
Titles can be straightforward, or they can be analyzed through a figurative view, or even taken for
what they are on a personal level. "Extremely Loud and Incredible Close" is very hard to take at face
value it could mean many things, the bombs in Dresden were loud, maybe Oskar was too close to
his father for his own good. "A Farewell to Arms" can be taken in the literal sense that Henry was
just going to leave the front, or maybe it was used as a metaphor to describe the war and its horror.
Both books have a unique title that has depth to it and they can both be dug into through the constant
contrast in both books, the allusions made in them, the point of view changes, and even the constant
repetition of metonymy in both books. Through the analysis of these elements we as the reader can
really start to see what the author truly meant to express through their titles. In both "A Farewell to
Arms" and "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" contrast is a very important point in deciphering
the true meaning of the title. Jonathan Safran Foer and Ernest Hemingway both use characterization
and the basic character traits to enact a fantastic contrast that exemplifies the theme that the title
sets. Hemingway uses the traits of those involved in the war in contrast with those who are decently
away from the front. Miss Gage one of Henry's nurses express her disgust with Henry's drinking, "I
should think you would try something more intelligent than producing Jaundice with alcoholism"

The Problem Of Defective Yoga Pants
Background: This case study analysis will define the problem of defective yoga pants products,
corporate corruption, and the growing media conflict of "weigh shaming" in the sizes–2–12 limits
on Lululemon yoga pants. Lululemon has seen a fall in the price of stock market shares due to these
major defects of yoga pants products and corporate unethical decision making processes. The
Problem: Lululemon has a growing reputation for making defective yoga pants (due to sheerness
and "see–through"), which has made it necessary tore call these products from the retail markets.
More so, various customers were upset with the neglect of corporate management to effectively
address and respond to the low quality material of the yoga pants. In some cases, women's yoga
pants were sheer enough to be "see–through" when the material was stretched. Customers were then
asked to "bend over" in the store for store employees/managers to ensure that the pants had, in fact,
were "see–through" due to sheerness (Lululemon Athletica Inc. 2014, p.7). This caused
embarrassment and anger from customers that perceived they were experiencing low quality
customer service. Lululemon also responsible limiting their yoga pants in the 2–12 size range, which

Essay on Malibu Fires
Malibu Fires
Human beings are able to adapt to almost any environment, unfortunately sometimes we take
advantage of our natural surroundings. We find ourselves amidst a struggle between our lifestyles
and nature. Although we affect nature profoundly with our activities, we in turn are shaped by
nature's potent forces.
Nature can be brutal to humans, but we must remember that it merely is following its course. As a
result, we must learn to coexist with it. Fire is a naturally occurring phenomenon which humans
have learned to deal with throughout history.
Yet when fire burns uncontrollably, there is great potential for monumental damage to all

It was the most devastating fire in the area, surpassing the previous worst fire in 1980 that burned 55
homes at the mouth of the San Gabriel Canyon. The total damage caused by wildfires in the San
Gabriel Mountains within the past 60 years amounted to the loss of 332 homes.
Statistically, Malibu and its surrounding area has seen much damage done to its vegetation and
inhabitants. There have been 24 wildfires that burned a total of 271,047 acres since 1927. These
fires have caused a total of five deaths and the destruction of 1,502 homes along with 830 other
structures.
Recent fires include the Malibu fire in 1985, Dayton Fire in 1982 and Malibu
Canyon fire in 1970. In the Malibu Fire, 103 homes were destroyed; in the
Dayton Fire, 85 homes were destroyed. The Malibu Canyon Fire, which joined forces with the New
Hall Fire on September 25, 1970, destroyed a total of 135 homes and burned through a total of
85,000 acres (Wildfire sec. 2 p.1). Out of all the homes burned, 70 were located in Malibu and 65 in
Chatsworth (Wildfire sec. 2 p.1). Previous to that fire, the last time Topanga Canyon had seen a
damaging fire was December 30, 1956, when 74 homes were destroyed (Wildfire sec.

What Is The Atomic Bomb Inhumane
One major argument for the use of the atomic bomb was that it would save thousands, if not,
millions of U.S. and Japanese lives. With a U.S. invasion set for November of 1945, it was predicted
that nearly a million U.S. soldiers would be lost, and the entire population of Japan's main inland
would suffer causalities. We believed that thousands of civilian lives were worth our own. The
sacrifice of these individuals was worth it all. Where does morality come into play? How does one
decide what lives matter and which ones do not? I believe that the atomic bomb was inhumane,
more so for the long–term environmental, social, and health effects which took place. The
destructive effects of the bomb had three phases: a fireball that hit temperatures

Tim Hanson 's The Classroom Teacher, Curious, Courageous,...
1. Is Danny Hanson, the classroom teacher, curious, courageous, or narrow minded? In the show
Boston Public, Danny Hanson is neither courageous nor narrow minded but rather curious. Danny
Hanson is curious due to his actions and views about the world. He portrays this when he asks
questions such as, "What's going on?" and "Okay let me get this straight." These examples show that
Danny wants to understand all sides of the situations he comes across. Danny is also curious for
hearing all perspectives for a certain situation. This happens in the show Boston Public after two
students got into a fight. The fight was about someone saying the n word to a Caucasian and an

Steven says things like the lesson "Pushes controversy," "The word stirs up too much hatred," and "I
don't like the word." These all show that Steven doesn't want to hear about other peoples views and
basically sayings it's his way or the high way. So, out of the three options available, Steven, the
Principal, is narrow minded. 4. Does Andre's analogy work? Why or why not? Andre's analogy I
think does work. This is because of whom they are using as an example. Since Andre used Danny's
mom as the 'victim' of a comment then it's going to be taken more seriously. So what I mean is, that
if Danny told his mom the n word, his mom would take it better from him rather than Andre saying
the same word to Danny's mom. So basically, if you know the person and you know their
background then they would take it better from you rather than a stranger who doesn't know you at
all. 5. Were you more surprised or impressed with Andre's ability to articulate his emotions? Why? I
believe I was neither surprise nor impressed with Andre's ability to articulate his emotions. This is
because I just accepted for what Andre had to say. Though if I were to have been more surprise or
impressed I would most likely be more impressed. This is because Andre, who just got into a fight,
said something very articulating and I wasn't expecting that. The reason why I wasn't because yes, I

California Is Notorious For Its Wildfires
California is notorious for its wildfires. In the last two decades San Diego County has faced some of
the most destructive firestorms in state history (Brainard, 2007). Ron Roberts, chairman of the San
Diego County Board of Supervisors, describes the county's disposition as, "We have a very
dangerous, unpredictable situation. We have some of the highest temperatures, some of the driest
landscape conditions, and some of the most powerful winds – all ingredients for a perfect firestorm
(Pesce, 2007)." In 2003, San Diego County was overwhelmed by firestorms, including the Cedar
Fire, and at that time it was the worst in state history. However, in 2007 San Diego was once again
devastated by firestorms, but this time more mighty than the preceding (Ekard, Tuck, Jr., & Steffen,
2003). San Diego has had its fair share of practice at managing firestorm response actions. The 2003
firestorms proved that there were numerous inefficiencies within the county's emergency response
plan, while the 2007 firestorms emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and
improvements implemented were effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are
inevitable due to the continuing drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior
(Pesce, 2007). Having a well–constructed Incident Command System (ICS) and the trained
personnel to execute its model is the most effective measure to mitigate the degree of life lost and
property damage in a disaster incident. A

animals remain. "Nothing left like this. The beauty. The diversity. All gone. Nothing wild. Nothing

is back in the form of Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Jax Jackson, who is played by Attack the
Block star Franz Drameh. The British actor is officially taking over half of Firestorm after the death
of Ronnie Raymond (Rob Amell), and he has just admitted that he initially geeked out when he
found out which character he was auditioning for! Drameh recently spoke to Comic Book Resources
about Legends of Tomorrow, where he admitted his love for comic books and the secret name for
the character he was reading for. "I've been a comic book fan my whole life, so when I was
auditioning, the character breakdown they gave me was 'Mystery Hero Michael.' So I was like,
okay," Drameh shared, adding that the truth about the character dawned upon him while reading the
lines. "So I had a bit of a read of it, and I was like: 'Stein –– this is Firestorm! But there's already a
Firestorm! How is this going to work?' So I kind knew early on that's who I was playing," he said. ...

Firestorm Of Dresden : The Bombing Of The World War II
Firestorm of Dresden Introduction: Dresden The bombing of Dresden from February 13 to February
15, 1945 remains one of the most controversial bombings in World War II. Located in eastern
Germany, Dresden was targeted by Allied bombers during the final months World War II in the
European theatre. Rationales behind the bombing remains controversial due to conflicting Allied
and German viewpoints. The Allies contended that the bombing was to target industrial centers,
communication hubs, and to aid Soviet troops advancing from the West. On the other hand,
Germans asserted that Dresden had no major industrial hubs, and the attacked on an undefended city
was a war crime. Prior to the bombing, Dresden was a cultural center and was one of the world 's
most beautiful cities termed "the Florence on the Elbe" for its unique architecture and arts. Some
historians often label the bombing as immoral because prior to the city 's destruction, Dresden was
relatively untouched by Allied troops or aerial bombing runs. However, many justified the bombing
as a way to decrease German morals by killing innocent and defenseless civilians. Following the
decimation of "the Florence on the Elbe", stories and propaganda emerged containing a series of
myths which have led to the bombing being perpetually stigmatized and subject to intense moral and
ethical debates that last to our present day. The Dresden bombing has all too often been unfairly
stereotyped as being an overly–deliberate,

The London Blitz Essay
In September of 1940 through May of 1941 there was a strategic bombing attack
that was lead by the Germans targeted towards London and other cities located in
England, this was known as The Blitz. The Germans aimed the bombs mostly at
populated cities, dock yards, and factories.
The bombing on London began on September 7, 1940 and lasted for 57
consecutive nights. During these nights of bombing people took shelter in warehouse
basements, and in underground subway stations with no privacy and poor sanitation
facilities.

"Between five and six o'clock on the evening of Saturday 7th September, some
320 German bombers supported by over 600 fighters flew up the Thames and
proceeded to bomb Woolwich Arsenal, Beckton gas Works, a large number of
docks, West Ham Power Station, and then the city, Westminster and Kensington.
They succeeded in causing a serious fire situation in the docks. An area about 1½
square miles between North Woolwich Road and the Thames was almost
destroyed, and the population of Silvertown was surrounded by fire and had to be
evacuated by water. At 8.10pm some 250 bombers resumed the attack which was
maintained until 4.30 on Sunday morning. They caused 9 conflagrations, 59 large
fires, and nearly 1,000 lesser fires. Three main line railway termini were put out
of action, and 430 persons killed and some 1,600 seriously injured. After the fire
brigades had spent all day in an effort to deprive the enemy of illumination, some
200 bombers returned in the evening (Sunday 8th) to carry on the assault. During

of the most controversial bombings in World War II. Located in eastern Germany, Dresden was
targeted by Allied bombers during the final months World War II in the European theatre. The
justification of the bombing remains controversial because the city was neither a political center nor

The Soviets urged Roosevelt and Churchill to bomb Dresden to eliminate railroad junctions and
factories surrounding Dresden, arguing the attack would disorient the German war machine to aid
the advancement of Soviet troops from the Eastern front. Prior to Dresden, the Soviets suffered
massive causalities and by the war's end, the total death toll approximated 20 million. All leaders
agreed during Yalta that bombing raids on transportation, communication, and manufacturing hubs
would bring the Nazi regime to a standstill. Despite the popular belief that Dresden did not house
any manufacturing hubs that contributed to the Nazi war effort, the Allies reported several factories
in Dresden. As Chen states, " However, Allied reports indicated the presence of the Zeiss–Ikon
optical factory and Siemans glass factory (which produced gun sights), and other factories building
radar, anti–aircraft shell fuses, gas masks, fighter engines, and various fighter parts." Dresden was
also a communication hub that connected telephone lines to the Eastern front. The Allied leaders
reasoned the strategic bombing against these hubs will severely disrupt the Germans and bring an

Daniel Bukvich Symphony 1 Essay
In 1978, Daniel Bukvich composed a piece named "Symphony No. 1 (In Memoriam Dresden,
1945)". The composition depicts the 1945 allied bombings of Dresden, Germany. Mr. Bukvich
needed to compose a song for his master's thesis dealing with contemporary notation, he chose to
base it off of the bombings of Dresden. The four different movements describe four different stages
of the bombings. Different sounds and notations are also used to recreate the setting of the panic and
fear that was felt at the time.
On February 13–14, 1945, the city of Dresden, Germany was a victim of allied bombings. In 1978,
Symphony No. 1 was composed as part of a master thesis project dealing with contemporary
notation (rather than regular notation, contemporary is more symbolic, improvisational, and
graphic). The piece contains non traditional sounds, and uses Duke Ellington's famous chords (C, E,

Dresden and becomes a prayer for the victims; "Fire Storm (Feuer Sturm)", in this movement, the
sounds of fire and bombs are recreated. The last movement serves as a resolution to the build up in
the previous three movements. The four movements are also performed in different lighting.

Ave Maria has a light blue lighting, to show that there is grieving and sadness, but also is interpreted

The attacks on Hamburg were not a turning point of the war as Bomber Command's fortunes had
completely disappeared once they started targeting Berlin, where their loss rates peaked to
unacceptably high levels. Therefore Gee made less of an impact in assisting the Allied strategic
bombing of Germany compared to Window. However the impact on Hamburg caused by Window
was relatively short–lived because the Germans countered. On the other hand the long range escort
fighters, disposable fuel tanks and The Thousand Bomber raids had a long–lived impact. The P–51
Mustang was an important aircraft in the war that had an American airframe and a British Rolls–
Royce 'Merlin' Engine. Disposable fuel tanks, which increased the Allied fighter's range were loaded
onto the P–51 Mustang and by March 1944, the modified Mustang had a 1800 mile armed range and
could fly with the bombers to Berlin and back. Richard Ovary said 'The long–range escort fighter
transformed the air war overnight.' Lastly the thousand–bomber raid on 30th to 31st May 1942
against Cologne saw the destruction of a third of the inner zone of Cologne along with the
destroying of 20000 houses and the evacuation of 200000 people.

How Is Strategic Bombing Justified
Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in a total war with the goal of defeating the enemy by
destroying its morale or its economic ability to produce and transport materiel to the theatres of
military operations. This tactic was used by the United States and Britain against the Germans and
Japanese in World War II. Strategic bombing is debated on whether the United States and Britain
were justified in using it. The United States and Britain used strategic bombing to protect their
people from fascist dictators and were justified in doing so. In the beginning of World War II, air
forces only attacked military targets. This changed once "the German Luftwaffe began conducting
air raids on British cities, including London, during the summer of 1940," (The Editors of
Encyclopædia Britannica). Strategic bombing soon became a main part of military combat. It was
seen to be in the best interest of the country's side in the war. To the British, bombing German cities
was a type of revenge. They showed the same amount of mercy for the German civilians as the
Germans did for them, which was little to none. What the Allies did in Japan reflects what they did
in Europe. Like the British, the U.S. bombed Japan as a response to the Pearl Harbor attack. "As was
the case in the air war against Germany, military planners experimented with different bombing
tactics in order to maximize the damage inflicted on Japan and force a surrender," (The Choices
Program). The United States was working to decrease the power Japan had in the Pacific

America has faced several major wars including the Civil War, World War I and II. These wars have
cause great advances in technology and different techniques of fighting. The Civil War was based on

Anthony Herman Fokker, a Dutch–American engineer designed guns that would fire between the
spaces of the propeller. With a timer a plane became the first combat plane in 1915 before that time
planes were used for bombing and observations of troops. By the end of World War I both sides had
aircraft that was capable of flying to altitudes of 25,000 feet and speeds of 155 miles per hour. This
was an amazing feat for wartime pressures for development. After the war commercial air service
was started and planes were being used for the transportation mail. The United States Postal Service
supported the development and Donald Douglas and Boeing started production of planes for
transportation of people and goods. In 1941 there were fewer than 300 planes in service when Japan
attacked Pearl Harbor. The United States had a very weak airforce. Production had to be increased
rapidly, by the end of the war aviation companies were making almost 50,000 planes a year. The jet
engine and pressurized cabin were developed which allowed planes to fly higher and faster. America
focused their attention on the development of fighters and bombers. Aircraft allowed troops to be
relocated to the front lines very quickly. Japan attacked America at a very good time. We were
battling out of a depression that caused the development and production of the airplane to slow
because of a lack of funding. Once the word of the

What Are The Five Core Ethical Principles

  • 1. What Are The Five Core Ethical Principles There are five core ethical principles. The first one is beneficence, it is the action that is done for the benefit of others, which should be taken to help prevent or remove harms or to simply improve the situation of others (Pantilat, 2008)). In United Airline's case, specifically for the case happened on April 9 2017, in order to accommodate crew members, the flight needed to select four customers and asked them to take the next flight. Dr. David Dao was randomly picked and been violently dragged out by security officers. The security officers dragged Dr. David Dao by his arms and legs down the aisle and off the Louisville, Kentucky– bound flight before it took off at Chicago O' Hare International Airport. Dao was left bloodied and bruised ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Southern Women During The Civil War Analysis Historians of the Southern woman during the Civil War can come to no agreement concerning the nature and the role of women in the conflict. According to A.P. Jones, author of The Flower of Southern Womanhood, Southern women a hundred years ago were "lazy, spoiled, and beautiful" (22). They cared only for themselves and subordinated their children, their husbands, and their servants to their own interest s (22). Historians Harvey Lowe, on the other hand, contends that Southern women were energetic, intelligent, and "well–trained in domestic and public service" (66). Although not as beautiful as had been assumed, they were of high character. As one article puts it, "The spiritual faith of the Southern Southern woman is said to have sustained ... • 3. Under The Dome Stephen King Stephen King's Under the Dome presents a unique story that is both thought provoking and entertaining. The introduction of the dome creates compelling social dynamics that would otherwise not have been possible. In many ways the dome is a microcosm of earth complete with its own conflicts, environmental disasters, and just about every social issue imaginable. The alien entities were equally thought provoking. From their perspective humans were nothing more than ants to be toyed with. They had no empathy or compassion, only pity. Julia Shumway's interaction with the entity causes an introspective evaluation on how we treat other people. James "Big Jim" Rennie steals the show as the novel's villain. • 4. Moral Duty In 'Firestorm And The Immigrant' Word Count (598) Science fiction is a genre of speculative fiction which allows us as readers to contemplate grand religious concepts such as moral duty and G–d's will as we vicariously live through fictitious characters in dystopian societies or remarkable situations. Such concepts are explored in "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Attwood, Canticles for Leibowitz" by Walter Miller, and "Contamination" by Richard Bowker as moral duty is contemplated, while in "Firestorm" by Steve Tem and "The Emigrant" by Joel Rosenberg, G–d's plan is explored. Protagonists in works of science fiction are often faced with moral dilemmas brought about by dystopian societies. In "The Handmaid's Tale", the protagonist Offred and her husband Luke are forced to flee their home as Congress is taken over by the military regime of the Christian fundamentalists of Gilead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this extreme situation, Luke takes the cat into the garage and kills her while Offred remains in their living room. She reflects on how "she should have at least have asked him about it afterwards, so he didn't have to carry it alone (Attwood 192)". This ethical dilemma causes her guilt and is a direct effect of the dystopian society of Gilead which forces its residents to make these unbearable decisions. Similarly, in "Canticles for Leibowitz" set in the year 3781, nuclear explosions begin to erupt as part of a war and a Doctor Cors opens a relief camp in an abbey. He meets a mother and child who suffer from radiation sickness and decides to administer them euthanasia as he doesn't want "to live as the torturer of that woman and that child (Miller 565)." • 5. Can the Bombing of Dresden Be Justified Can the bombing of Dresden be justified? Dresden was Germanys 7th largest city at the time of the war. Historically, Dresden had been northern Germany's cultural centre – a city filled with museums and historic buildings. The Frauenkirche Cathedral was one of the world's famous buildings. Dresden was also an extremely important industrial area, which was something that the allies really did not want, but before February 1945 Dresden was a peaceful country and there were not any threats from the British yet., Many refugees had fled to Dresden from the east because of the Soviet Union's attack; therefore making it harder to find the actual figure of people who died. At 10 p.m. on Tuesday 13 February 1945, the first British marker flares ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otherwise we shall come into control of an utterly ruined land." by Winston Churchill, 28 march 1945. Although there are other reasons that come through that make the bombing of Dresden seem like an unnecessary part of the war effort. In the first place Britain did not even start the war. In 1919 Ital, England, France, and U.S came to an agreement that Germany had to pay for all the damage they did in the First World War. When Hitler heard of this he started organising an army, air force and started making allies, like Mussillon's Italy. Six months later Hitler breaks the treaty and starts another war. Germany withdrew from the Geneva disarmament conference, which meant they refused to support a British proposal that air bombing be banned. Dresden was also a very important rail centre for moving troops, concentration camp prisoners and war material but it would be no good if the allies destroyed the buildings and factories, because if there will be, still human's; they can rebuild it. The war factories of Dresden employed around 10,000 people, many of which lived in the very centre of the city. The Russians were asking for help from Britain and the u.s.a because Dresden was too close to the Russian front line. The number of people that died shows clearly how the Nazi's failed to provide air–raid shelter. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Gentrification And Income Inequality The classism that gentrification brings into communities cannot be understated, simply because it is one of the negative driven byproducts of it, because when individuals are forced to see homes in their respective communities go for 2 to 3 times the market value for what they were previously going for, it sends the message that those within a higher income bracket are able to dictate the set prices in real estates. Furthermore, this financial inequality goes beyond just the housing market. Areas that have seen the wholesale installment of the businesses that stem from gentrification are often overlooked and not taken in consideration when it comes to the prices set by them. • 7. Nuclear Radiation and Fallout Effects The Fallout If a nuclear fallout were to occur, the earth would turn into a radiated wasteland. The earth would be essentially non–liveable, but it could be possible to survive. People, with the help of fallout shelters and bunkers, would be able to survive the initial attack and quite possibly live in the shelters until the radiation has dropped to a level in which they can survive. Now, the difference between a nuclear explosion and a convention explosion is that a nuclear explosion can be thousands, or even millions of times more powerful than the largest conventional detonations. There are a few different places a nuclear weapon can erupt at. These explosions are called air, high–altitude, underwater, underground, and surface ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bunkers and shelters all over the world would be packed with as many people as they can fit and some would be overrun with hoards of people trying to get in. The world would panic and do what they think would help them survive. The initial attack of a nuclear weapon would be catastrophic. The blast of these bombs would cause massive destruction. City areas would be completely destroyed by overpressures of 5 psi. These explosions can produce around an overpressure of 50 psi. If an explosion occurs above ground, the blast wave is reflected off the ground, causing a second wave to follow the first. Behind the blast wave comes the thermal radiation; two pulses of thermal radiation emerge from the explosion. The first pulse consists of radiation in the ultraviolet region, and the second pulse carries around ninety–nine percent of the thermal radiation energy. Along with the thermal radiation is the fireball, an extremely hot and spherical mass of air, which occurs in less than one millionth of a second of detonation and continues to grow in size. The fireball will grow and cool down, then the vapors condense to create a cloud containing solid particles of the weapons debris. This cloud is widely know as "The Mushroom Cloud". In some conditions, the many fires created by the explosion can turn into a massive fire known as a "Firestorm". ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Western Montana Fires Final Report: The Fires of 1910: The Big Burn In the summer of 1910 Northern Idaho and Western Montana were hit by what seemed like a never ending series of destructive forest fires. With the spring bringing hardly any rainfall and drying winds from the Columbia plains, creeks began to disappear and the montane forests became dry. Intense heat along with high winds and dry vegetation create the perfect environment for forest fires. In June and July several dry electric storms hit the mountains and fires began to develop in isolated corners of the forest. The U.S. Forest Service which had just been developed in 1905 consisted of forest rangers on horseback climbing the mountains and protecting the forest from fires (Bergoffen, 1976). As the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry Graves the chief of the Forest Service in 1910 believed that fire can be defeated and worked with the state and private associations to fight fires by starting a fire protection campaign that would eventually lead to the creation of Smokey Bear. He created the national forest policy for the United States and in 1911 The Weeks Act was created which allowed the federal government to purchase private lands and forests (Graves, 1919). In 1915 the Forest Service Research Branch was created in order to find the best ways to manage national forests and to study the different trees and plants so that reseeding and replanting of the forest could be done. Another important figure was Ranger Ed Pulaski who is considered to be one of the heroes of the 1910 fires. Pulaski invented one of the most famous firefighting tools that are still used today known as the "Pulaski". The Pulaski is a tool that is both an axe and a grub hoe and is a useful tool in fighting wildfires. The fires of 1910 set in motion numerous improvements in the Forest Service and in large part allowed for the creation of the National Parks we enjoy today. As the biggest wildfire in history "It managed to burn its way through public indifference and to emerge as what most conservationists consider a charred but positive landmark along the road to forest protection" (Peterson, 1995). • 10. Daniel Bukvich Symphony 1 Description For my final project I chose to write this essay analyzing the piece Symphony No. 1 (In Memoriam Dresden, 1945) by Daniel Bukvich. There are several aspects that drew me to this piece. I originally heard this piece last summer at a concert performed here at UNI when I came to visit. I have always been intrigued by history and this song portrayed a very deep historical meaning. For this reason, I chose to analyze this piece not only musically but through a historical lens. Imagine a horrible firestorm of death and destruction now imagine that scene put into music. This is exactly what Symphony #1 by Daniel Bukvich attempts to do. He uses music in a way to portray a picture that many of us cannot even imagine. Hours of listening and studying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bombing of Dresden took place during the second world war between February 13 and 15, 1945. Prior to this time Germany had held a practice of bombing British cities to create chaos and to break the British Moral in hopes of forcing the British to surrender. This approach had not been successful up until this point. Both the allied and axis powers soon took up the bombing of industrial cities. The main goal of these bombings was for the most part to disrupt communication, and production of materials necessary for the war. The secondary objective was to disrupt moral of the people hoping that they would push back against the government pressuring them into surrendering. Dresden was a major cultural and geographical epicenter. During this time Dresden was a major center for refugees fleeing the on pushing Soviet Union. The bombing of Dresden helped to prove to the Soviet Union that the rest of the allied powers would support them with air support. However, the controversy of Dresden arises from the fact that the allied powers claimed Dresden was a major industrial center with major production centers for war goods. However, Germany claims that Dresden had no industry whatsoever. The issue arises that there is no definitive proof either way. The issue that arises from this is the claim that the allied powers bombed Dresden for the sole purpose of murder of citizens for morale reasons. In 1945 Dresden had become a major center for refugees fleeing from the Russian army. The bombing in theory would cause massive chaos among civilians disrupting troop advancements to and from the front. Either way the Bombing of Dresden was massively destructive killing many people. On the thirteenth two waves of bombers dropped bombs on the city. The first wave used high explosive to uncover the wooden frames to buildings. Once the wood was exposed a second wave of bombings used incendiary bombs to burn the wood. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The agreement itself has become a political firestorm due to the most recent presidential election and has almost sealed the fate of the Trans Pacific Partnership free trade agreement. When NAFTA was passed it seemed like there were only weak arguments against it and nothing but benefits from all three participating countries would occur. Anyone can see that the gross domestic product and tax revenues generated from all three countries has had a significant boost as pointed out by Ian and his sources(de Mestral, 2011). Dropping Of Nagasaki Research Paper Dropping of the bomb– Nagasaki On August 9th, 1945 at 11:02 A.M., another B–29 bomber, Bock's Car, piloted by Charles Sweeney was sent by the United States to drop over Nagasaki. The bomb, called Fat Man, was dropped because of the devastation at Hiroshima being insufficient in persuading the Japanese War Council to accept Potsdam Conference's demand for unconditional surrender. Planning to drop the atomic bomb on August 11th, the United States had to push forward the date to August 9th because of bad weather. At 1:56 A.M., Bock's Car took off, dropping the bomb at 11:02 A.M. at 1650 feet above the city. The equivalent force of the atomic bomb explosion was equal to 22,000 tons of TNT. Both occurred at night displacing families that saw the buildings boarded up with fresh plywood that never quite did cover all the black tinge of the flames that tore through the windows. It stayed that way for some time accompanied by that exclusive and ever–present burnt odor that wafted through the neighborhood reminding everyone of the destructive force of fire. Militant environmentalists armed with a plethora of lawsuits have been the log jam that has prevented loggers from our nation's woodlands. Without appropriate logging management in place, forests become overgrown and destabilized and when faced with the deadly duo of drought and lightning strikes, woodlands become susceptible to igniting into towering infernos. Federal firefighters are often successful in knocking down these conflagrations and throughout the years have become victims of their own success as much biomass underbrush has not only remained, but multiplied. All that does is become the kindling for the next, inescapable bout of forest fire. For more than a century, the standing federal policy has been to extinguish all fires. Let it burn is completely left out of the equation. In fact, such thinking is an anathema to any seasoned firefighter. According to one longtime, prominent fire official, Greg Fabrizo of Coal Township, PA, "a controlled fire can be the most capable and cost–effective means available for managing woodlands." If the federal government had allowed a place like Yellowstone to have contained burns when fire does irrupt, they would have avoided their biblical–like conflagration that provided so much destruction back in 1990. Let it burn should be law. Healthy forests need to burn on a semi–regular basis. If they don't, they are nothing but firestorms in waiting. No one out west wants a

This one act set off a firestorm that has echoed deep in the core of the American conscious. It began to show the differences of this country in a new light. "If human differences have their place, so also does divine unity. For those who are in relationship with God, this unity must, because of God's nature, have precedence over diversity," shares Okholm. What the root of this protest by Kaepernick? Not only have explicit examples of racism generated animosity and mistrust, but implicit approval of racism and a passive inactivity toward injustice have perpetuated the racial divide." The knee goes deeper as this divide happens in America. When the knee goes deeper, what did it say about racial matters? If the justice system had been fair in its' assessments of the incidents that happened across America, there would not be a movement of black lives matter. If the justice system would have shown that all lives matter when an officer is negligent with the discharge of their weapons against a twelve–year–old boy playing with a toy gun in a park, and then found not negligible, all lives did not matter. In the documentary, "The Color of Fear," Victor makes a good analogy about the white experience. Victory states, "What is the white experience? When I look at you manifesting your white experience, I also see you not naming it. I see you just want to blur the distinction between just being a person and also most particularly being a white person and what that means." Regrettably, Victor's statement shows that people of color are invisible to whites. Not to misunderstand, this is the view from people of color. This shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Disastrous Result Of The Atomic Bomb However, notwithstanding the horrifying and destructive nature of these results, there is yet another extremely disastrous result of the atomic bomb: the firestorm. The thermal radiation from the explosion ignites countless fires on all flammable surfaces within a wide radius. Furiously overturning fire hazards such as stoves, heaters, and furnaces as well as rupturing gas lines and causing short circuits, the blast wave intensifies the already precarious situation. Indeed, the blast wave also breaks windows and blows in fire shutters, which causes better ventilation for the fires. The debris from all the fallen buildings creates much more vulnerable fuel for the fire as well. When all of these individual fires started by the combined efforts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Literary Techniques In Cormac Mccarthy's The Road Cormac McCarthy's The Road is a post–apocalyptic novel that uses a literary style that most authors do not dare to use when writing. McCarthy's style is very mysterious, given that he doesn't give the main character's names at any point and his use of grammar is unorthodox. The lack of quotation marks when characters are speaking adds a certain wispy quality to the book. McCarthy's technique unquestionably enhances the book's eerie aura; post–apocalyptic novels can often be overdone or predictable, but The Road was not. The story is about a man and his young son traveling on a road after firestorms have scourged the land, destroying civilization. McCarthy does an exceptional job of showing their fight for survival as they struggle to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Incredibly Close And A Farewell To Arms Titles can be straightforward, or they can be analyzed through a figurative view, or even taken for what they are on a personal level. "Extremely Loud and Incredible Close" is very hard to take at face value it could mean many things, the bombs in Dresden were loud, maybe Oskar was too close to his father for his own good. "A Farewell to Arms" can be taken in the literal sense that Henry was just going to leave the front, or maybe it was used as a metaphor to describe the war and its horror. Both books have a unique title that has depth to it and they can both be dug into through the constant contrast in both books, the allusions made in them, the point of view changes, and even the constant repetition of metonymy in both books. Through the analysis of these elements we as the reader can really start to see what the author truly meant to express through their titles. In both "A Farewell to Arms" and "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" contrast is a very important point in deciphering the true meaning of the title. Jonathan Safran Foer and Ernest Hemingway both use characterization and the basic character traits to enact a fantastic contrast that exemplifies the theme that the title sets. Hemingway uses the traits of those involved in the war in contrast with those who are decently away from the front. The Problem Of Defective Yoga Pants Background: This case study analysis will define the problem of defective yoga pants products, corporate corruption, and the growing media conflict of "weigh shaming" in the sizes–2–12 limits on Lululemon yoga pants. Lululemon has seen a fall in the price of stock market shares due to these major defects of yoga pants products and corporate unethical decision making processes. The Problem: Lululemon has a growing reputation for making defective yoga pants (due to sheerness and "see–through"), which has made it necessary tore call these products from the retail markets. More so, various customers were upset with the neglect of corporate management to effectively address and respond to the low quality material of the yoga pants. In some cases, women's yoga pants were sheer enough to be "see–through" when the material was stretched. Customers were then asked to "bend over" in the store for store employees/managers to ensure that the pants had, in fact, were "see–through" due to sheerness (Lululemon Athletica Inc. 2014, p.7). This caused embarrassment and anger from customers that perceived they were experiencing low quality customer service. Lululemon also responsible limiting their yoga pants in the 2–12 size range, which expressed a specific bias towards women that were perceived to be overweight. We find ourselves amidst a struggle between our lifestyles and nature. Although we affect nature profoundly with our activities, we in turn are shaped by nature's potent forces. Nature can be brutal to humans, but we must remember that it merely is following its course. As a result, we must learn to coexist with it. With a U.S. invasion set for November of 1945, it was predicted that nearly a million U.S. soldiers would be lost, and the entire population of Japan's main inland would suffer causalities. We believed that thousands of civilian lives were worth our own. The sacrifice of these individuals was worth it all. Where does morality come into play? In the last two decades San Diego County has faced some of the most destructive firestorms in state history (Brainard, 2007). Ron Roberts, chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, describes the county's disposition as, "We have a very dangerous, unpredictable situation. We have some of the highest temperatures, some of the driest landscape conditions, and some of the most powerful winds – all ingredients for a perfect firestorm (Pesce, 2007)." In 2003, San Diego County was overwhelmed by firestorms, including the Cedar Fire, and at that time it was the worst in state history. However, in 2007 San Diego was once again devastated by firestorms, but this time more mighty than the preceding (Ekard, Tuck, Jr., & Steffen, 2003). San Diego has had its fair share of practice at managing firestorm response actions. The 2003 firestorms proved that there were numerous inefficiencies within the county's emergency response plan, while the 2007 firestorms emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and improvements implemented were effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are inevitable due to the continuing drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior (Pesce, 2007). • 31. Firestorm Of Dresden : The Bombing Of The World War II Firestorm of Dresden Introduction: Dresden The bombing of Dresden from February 13 to February 15, 1945 remains one of the most controversial bombings in World War II. Located in eastern Germany, Dresden was targeted by Allied bombers during the final months World War II in the European theatre. Rationales behind the bombing remains controversial due to conflicting Allied and German viewpoints. The Allies contended that the bombing was to target industrial centers, communication hubs, and to aid Soviet troops advancing from the West. On the other hand, Germans asserted that Dresden had no major industrial hubs, and the attacked on an undefended city was a war crime. Prior to the bombing, Dresden was a cultural center and was one of the world 's most beautiful cities termed "the Florence on the Elbe" for its unique architecture and arts. Some historians often label the bombing as immoral because prior to the city 's destruction, Dresden was relatively untouched by Allied troops or aerial bombing runs. However, many justified the bombing as a way to decrease German morals by killing innocent and defenseless civilians. Following the decimation of "the Florence on the Elbe", stories and propaganda emerged containing a series of myths which have led to the bombing being perpetually stigmatized and subject to intense moral and ethical debates that last to our present day. • 38. How Is Strategic Bombing Justified Strategic bombing is a military strategy used in a total war with the goal of defeating the enemy by destroying its morale or its economic ability to produce and transport materiel to the theatres of military operations. This tactic was used by the United States and Britain against the Germans and Japanese in World War II. Strategic bombing is debated on whether the United States and Britain were justified in using it. The United States and Britain used strategic bombing to protect their people from fascist dictators and were justified in doing so. In the beginning of World War II, air forces only attacked military targets. This changed once "the German Luftwaffe began conducting air raids on British cities, including London, during the summer of 1940," (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). Strategic bombing soon became a main part of military combat. It was seen to be in the best interest of the country's side in the war. To the British, bombing German cities was a type of revenge. They showed the same amount of mercy for the German civilians as the Germans did for them, which was little to none. What the Allies did in Japan reflects what they did in Europe. Like the British, the U.S. bombed Japan as a response to the Pearl Harbor attack. "As was the case in the air war against Germany, military planners experimented with different bombing tactics in order to maximize the damage inflicted on Japan and force a surrender," (The Choices Program).
