The school community
is made up of:
• Pupils : children
who attend school.

• Head teacher: The Head
teacher organises the school.

teacher´s classes.

• The Secretary: is a teacher who
works in the school office.

9. The School Community.
• Non-teaching staff include the caretaker, the cleaners, the
cooks, the supervisors. They look after the school, the
building, the children, the teachers…
10. The areawhere we live…
• The area where we live has a local Government and the head
of this local Government is called Mayor.

• We also have local services.
• Water services: give us clean, fresh drinking water.
• Environmental services: These services include looking after
sewers, street cleaning, street lighting, collecting and recycling
rubbish, looking after parks and gardens.
• Town planning services: organise and repair roads, signs,
traffic lights, pavements, public transport…
• Health services: organise hospitals and health centres.
• Social services: help people find a job or home and look after
people.
• Education services: organise schools and education centres.
• Cultural and sports services: organise public libraries,
museums and sport centres.
12. Emergency services…
• The police protect citizens, fight crime, controll traffic. They
use cars, motorbikes, horses, boats, helicopters…

• The fire brigade help when there is a fire or a flood. They use
a fire engine with fire extinguishers, ladders…

• The medical services help people from an accident, treat the
patient. They use an ambulance.
18. The organisation of Autonomous
Communities…
• Each Autonomous Community has its own Statute of
Autonomy. It defines the name, capital, borders, official
holidays and symbols.
• Each Autonomous Community also has its own Parliament,
President and Government. It makes the laws, important
decisions about education, health care and other services.
• Each Autonomous Community have their own festivals, music,
food, language…
