Teen Tv Show Ad Analysis
Teen TV Show Ads – Pushing The Envelop
Ads are made to grab our attention and persuade us to buy or support a product. When it comes
down to TV Shows and ads, it depends on what type of show it is. If the show is a supernatural
show, the ad could be a very dark. If the show is a comedy, the ad would be very light. For example,
an ad for the TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer shows the titled character's eyes staring at you and
the tagline reads: BUFFY LIVES (whedon.org). Contrasting that, in an ad for the comedy series
Cougar Town, the main characters are happy and drinking wine like they normally do on the show.
The two separate ads clearly explains to the consumer that Buffy will go through a dark time on the
show while on Cougar Town, they will be happy and carefree like they usually are. But one type of
show, teen dramas, are going for the controversial route with their ads ... Show more content on

The television show Gossip Girl like Skins also followed a group of teenagers, but unlike Skins it
followed a group privileged teenagers in New York City. Premiering in 2007 on the CW, the show
was based off a book series with the same name and the adaptation wasn't well liked at first but
entering its second season people were hooked. During the first season, the show put out an ad that
read "OMFG" as a character named Nate kisses the cleavage of a character named Serena (Tate).
The Parent Television Council did not like this at all. They believed it was a controversial kiss for a
kids show, even though Gossip Girl's audience is 18 to 34–year–old women (Foxnews.com). Gossip
Girl then used these criticisms for this ad and put them on the ads for their second season. One ad
features the character Nate cuddled up with an older woman and reads ""Mind–blowing
Inappropriate – Parent Televison Council" (Lawson). Another reads ""A nasty piece of work" – New
York Post" as another character Blair is shirtless kissing a guy in the pool

The Effects Of Sexual Content On Children 's Programming
Sexual Content in Children's Programming Children's programming is beginning to raise a concern
among many parents due to sexual content being included along with other inappropriate scenes like
violence, offensive language or verbal abuse. In a news article by Cheryl Wetzstein, she reports that
"one in ten parents agreed that there were "a lot" of good programs on for kids" because all the
programs are portraying sexual content or violence instead of being educational to children (pg. 40).
Due to the recent technological advancements, children's media exposure has increased, causing
more children to be bombarded with shows featuring sexual innuendos, sexual activity or adult
subtext. Not only is the sexual content being included frequently in programming, children are
facing the content in advertisements as well. An example of this is the advertisement poster for The
Lion King. The film poster features the face of Simba in which many analyzers and parents are
pointing out that between the eyes and above the nose features an image that looks like the "butt of a
naked woman" creating a sexualized image some children could pick up on (Fyfe, 2006, pg. 8).
Sexual content throughout children's programming can have both positive and negative effects on
the children watching. Many children will become able to understand what is going on in the show
or film causing questioning and new thoughts or ideas about sexual activity While parents have a
concern about sexual content being

Sexual Referencing in Children's Programming Children's programming is beginning to raise a

and understanding what is going on in the show or film. While parents have a concern about sexual
content being included into programming for children, positive effects should be noticed along with
the negative effects being discussed. Much of the sexual content goes unnoticed due to the small
hidden images in art or subliminal messages and sexual innuendos. Due to many children being
unaware of the effects of media and the content involved, parents should become informed about the
types of content in programming, the effects of

Collaboration Pl Phase 2
Collaboration Plan: Phase 2
Parent Section: Communication between teachers and the parents of students is essential for the
growth and success of the student both inside and outside of the classroom. This communication is
best achieved through parent conference opportunities. One way that this is achieved is through
regular open house nights. This is where parents, and other members of the community, are invited
to come to the school and talk to the teachers and other faculty at the school. Another conference
opportunity presents itself in a scheduled appointment between the teacher and the parent. This will
enable the parent to meet face–to–face with their child's teacher during a time that is more
convenient to them, as these appointments can occur before, during, and after school. Additionally,
conferences can take place over the phone. This is a convenient way for both parties to communicate
effectively in a way that works best for them. Parent involvement is key to a child's academic
success; this can be accomplished through the parent's participation in an advisory council. A
parent–teacher organization meets regularly to discuss the workings of the school and the parents
that take part in the meeting are rewarded with a voice to make suggestions and give active feedback
to the school. This enables parents and teachers to discuss matters dealing with the education of their
child. Another council that advocates the voice of parents is the Mississippi Read

Personal Narrative: A Career As The Youth Advisory Council
It has always been part of my character to put others before myself. Being selfless can at times
produce and either positive or negative outcome. Sometimes the negative outcome conduced an
adverse response that lead me to invest, and place indifferent people before myself. Ultimately, I
decided to use my quality in a way that would not only affect others in a positive way, but would
also positively affect me. At the end of my sophomore year of high school, my friend Anthony told
me about a community service organization called the Youth Advisory Council. The council is
comprised of student representatives who focus on finding methods to solve issues within Riverside
County's Fourth District. For two years I have had the privilege of being elected to serve as a
member on the council, and in my final year, as the board's Parliamentarian. As the ... Show more

The Youth Force Clean Up, was a program created to raise money for nonprofit organizations

Household items such as broken televisions, couches, chairs, tires, agricultural waste, and even dead
animals were found alongside the road. Though the event was unglamorous, knowing that I took
part in amassing more than eight tons of waste and an additional three hundred tires, made the
experience that much more fulfilling because I was give the pportunity to positively affect my

Desensitization Theory Essay
Throughout the world, television is a key outlet for information as well as entertainment. Over the
years, television has gradually changed to a more violent subject matter. These changes have been
made to captivate a new audience group interested in shows containing more action and violence.
There are several factors that have contributed to this including a changing culture and the size of
the viewing audience. Many aspects have to be observed in order to fully understand just how much
television has changed throughout the years. This paper demonstrates how violent television

What Makes Sex For Advertising So Appealing?
Sex is a very controversial subject that normally attracts a lot of attention, which forces it be
extremely exploitable for attention craved advertisement creators. Sex can be defined as ways to
gain consumers attention (Belch & Belch 2007). What makes sex in advertising so special? Why is
sex so appealing to consumers? Sexual appeal can be characterized as an emotional trigger. Sex can
be construed as the soul of advertising. (Brayan 2003) There are various emotions that an advertiser
can utilize to aid in delivering messages to audiences. Emotional messages utilized in
advertisements can arouse views from different backgrounds and force them to take action. (Brayan
2003) These emotions consist of, but not restricted to: guilt, love, leisure, sadness, lust, pleasure and
peace. Today, lust is still powerful device in gaining attention, which emerged from the
entertainment industry. Currently, when viewing Hollywood fashion trends and Music Television,
they both possess large influences on audiences, which have taken a liking to sexually explicit lust–
filled advertisements. For example, Music Television, a channel devoted to music related
programming, plays music videos of inadequately clothed women on a consistent basis. (Copley
2004) In reality, sex being utilized in advertisements started before the 1990s. Creators of
advertisements utilized heads of attractive women in advertisements, back in the 1850s. After the
Civil War came to an end creators of advertisements

How Parents How Expensive Raising A Child
1. If I could choose one piece of important information to give to individuals who are considering
becoming a parent the knowledge I would provide them with is explaining to the parents how
expensive raising a child is (In–class discussion 08/27/15). First, they would need to start saving
their money. An infant can add up to 241,000 (Holden 2015). I would explain to the parents all of
the first year expenses related to having a newborn baby (Holden 2015). Second, they would need to
start purchasing diapers, formula, and etc. before the baby arrives (In–class discussion on 09/03/15).
Third, they need to set up a bed for the infant to take home to sleep in (In–class discussion on
09/03/15). I choose this piece of important knowledge because this will benefit the parents to know
how much they need to save before considering having a baby.
As discussed in class on 09/03/15, I think after the knowledge of a parent knows how expensive
becoming a parent this helps the parent perform variety of tasks towards becoming a parent. I think
it is important to tell all individuals who want to become a parent that becoming a parent is
rewarding and at the same time hard work and very expensive. Finally I think teaching them about
the expenses on being a parent will help them succeed at becoming a parent and learn how to enjoy
being a parent so they will not be stress out about money situations and enjoy the beautiful
pregnancy.

campaign that's been set up to inspire New Zealanders to become more active and to integrate
physical activity into their everyday activities such as talking the stairs instead of the escalator.
These ads were aimed towards woman aged between 25 – 50 because these women are usually

such as Tana Umaga to promote the campaign would inspire people to get onboard because they
know that people like him are physically fit and put in the hard yards to do so. The push play ads
have had many different ideas behind them from 2008 "feel greatness" campaign to 2006 "push play
nation" and 2007 and 2008's "push play parents. Using many different techniques and ideas they

Essay about Television is NOT the Sole Cause of Violence...
Violence in Children Is Not Just From TV Most parents expect a four year old to be very active and
zealous, but never violent. However, some children exhibit violent behavior, such as running around
the playground kicking, karate chopping and biting other children. The following example is based
on personal experience. In 1997 this was the case with a family in Georgia who had a son with these
behavioral problems. The parents took their child to counseling in order to figure out what the
problem was. After a brief counseling session, those parents were perplexed and angry. It was
difficult for them to believe that a counselor would blame them or suggest putting their child on
drugs. After counseling, the father and child watched the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to the Kaiser Foundation report "...81 percent of parents have seen their children imitate
either positive or aggressive behaviors from TV" (Kaufman 699). A council created by the
University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Texas at Austin, which included
medical organizations, conducted the National Television Violence Study (NTVS). The NTVS found
that "...violence often was portrayed in the contextual manner that earlier research suggested would
increase the likelihood of negative effects on viewers, especially children" (Shifrin 1). The positive
uses of television are that it can teach children with shows like "Sesame Street", where they can
learn the alphabet and new words. Children also benefit from watching programs about different
cultures, music and art. Television is also a way to allow families to spend time together and have
something to talk about. Although, television is a negative influence on children it can also be a
positive one. Because of the negative psychological impact that violence in television can have on
children, many parents turn to medical solutions. Since the medical solution is always the easiest
solution many fail to see alternatives. As an example, the parents discussed earlier visited a
counselor for their child; the counselor began with the basic questioning. After fifteen minutes the
counselor determined that

A Raisin In The Sun Rite Of Passage
Throughout many works of literature, characters are described to go through a rite of passage,
developing the plot and solving conflicts. A rite of passage is when a character goes through life
changes, realizing his/her flaws and maturing as a person. Walter Lee Younger is a man that goes
through many different character changes, which cause conflict amongst the other characters. Once
he goes through his rite of passage, he is able to fix his flaws and mature. In Lorraine Hansberry's
play, A Raisin in the Sun, characterization is used to portray that one must experience a rite of
passage in order to mature.
Walter Lee Younger starts off the play as a man who is selfish and immature, willing to put money
before family. He is characterized as a very egotistical man that looks for his best interest and not
his family's. L.M. Domina, a professor at Hofstra University, giveas her criticism of Walter Lee
Younger in an essay, in which she discusses his ravenousness. She states that Walter has become a
very greedy man and Mama is upset that he could put money before family, especially when family
meant everything to his father. After Walter found out about Ruth's desire for an abortion, his
motives were strictly financial, which was a huge disappointment for Mama, as she thought she
raised him to think different than that (Domina 193). "Well– well–son, I'm waiting to hear you say

influence is greatest at a young age and fades as the individual grows in age, but never completely
goes away. In today's society where sex is something that is openly broadcasted in order to promote
everything from products to television shows, sex is something that the youth of today are exposed

Fast Food Restaurants, Childhood Obesity, and Healthy Eating Habits Today, fast food restaurants
are often blamed for childhood obesity. This is however a simplistic point of view, there are a
number of factors that contribute to the current epidemic of childhood obesity. When all is said and
done, the responsibly of teaching children healthy eating habits and encouraging regular exercise to
mitigate this problem lies with parents. It is estimated that as many as one in five Americans is

Promoting Healthy Use Of Media For Children And...
Promoting Healthy Use of Media for Children and Adolescents
Nowadays children and adolescents are exposed to intensive media, such as television, radio, music,
video games, smart devices, and any internet based social media. Rideout (2015) reported that on
any given day, American teenagers (13–18 years old) spend about nine hours on entertainment
media use, excluding time spent at school or for homework. Tweens (8–12 years old) use an average
of about six hours ' worth of entertainment media daily. Even though there are 45% of teens using
social media "every day," watching television and listening to music dominate young people's media
diets. Another national study revealed that the average total time of media use for people 8–18 years
old was 10 hours and 45 minutes every day (treating simultaneous media use as distinct activities),
regardless of text messaging, phoning, or using computers for school work (Rideout, Rideout,
Foehr, & Roberts, 2010).
Media use has grown exponentially and become part of the lives of children and adolescents, which
is why they are called "generation M" for media. So far, no conclusion about whether media use
benefits the social emotional development of children and adolescents has been reached among
various professionals, such as educators, psychologists, business people, policy makers, etc.
However, children and adolescents are at risk while they use media to explore the world and develop
their sense of self because of their limited

Essay Negative Effects of Television on Children
Television is a big part of today's society. Everybody watches television, including the children.
There is a potential problem with letting children watch television. Ask this question, would
someone let their own child watch some of the programming that they watch, too? Some of these
programs are intended for the adult generation, not young children. Violence has a major role in
television these days. Letting children watch this violence could corrupt their minds and eventually
lead to bad behavior. There needs to be a limitation on the types of television programming that
parents let their children watch, because violence in television can negatively affect children.
Throughout the years, violence has become more common in television ... Show more content on

If parents restrict their children in only watching educational shows rather than violence, the
influence of children would rather be more useful and not corrupted.
Children view violence in different ways when they watch it on television, whether it is cartoons or
a type of drama and action programming. After children have watched these television shows, they
may have interpreted the meaning into a negative behavior. It could influence them by becoming
aggressive, afraid of the world that surrounds them, or it may lead to confusion. When it is said that
children may become confused because their parents teach that violence is wrong. When they view
someone in a "superhero" position participating in violence, they may see that as it is all right for the
simple fact the good person does the action. According to the American Academy of Children and
Adolescent Psychiatry, "the impact of TV violence may be immediately evident in the child's
behavior or may surface years later (AACAP, 2011)."
While violent influences that impact children negatively, they may participate in different behavior.
On the contrary, children who watch education television shows were more likely to do better in
school. According to the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS)
department: "What is notable about this research, however, is that it is the kind of television that

Censoring South Park
Dick Cavett, a famous American talk show host, once said, "Censorship feeds the dirty mind more
than the four–letter word itself." Censorship limits free speech, and it is used constantly today. In
South Park's situation, the writers use logic and evidence to express their opinions on controversial
issues, and people think that it should be censored. Just because the show uses morally questionable
techniques, does not mean that it is useless. In fact, South Park has taught people a lot; it changes
our point of view and encourages us to think deeply about the issues at hand while simultaneously
making us laugh. For people unfamiliar with South Park, it is an animated comedy television which
airs on Comedy Central. The show revolves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These groups do not only criticize the use of profanity in South Park.
Another huge controversy South Park has created is their depiction of religion. South Park has
parodied almost every major religion so it is understandable that many people are offended. In the
episode, Trapped in the Closet, South Park basically calls Scientology a global scam. The LDS
church responded to the episode, All About Mormons, by calling it a gross portrayal of the LDS
church. The creators of South Park claim that any topic is subject to ridicule, but, because of the
Jyllands–Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, South Park has censored images of Muhammad.
While they have not been able to ridicule Islam directly, – which is something that the creators never
planned to do until this controversy arose – they still mock the censorship controversy itself.
Christianity is, by far, the most often parodied religion in South Park. Arguably, the most offensive
parody South Park has done involving Christianity is the depiction of Jesus. In South Park, Jesus has
his own talk show and appears to be just ordinary. As a recurring character, South Park's Jesus has
engaged in acts of speaking profanity, violence, and has been shown with the inability to perform his
miracles. Critics of the show say that these controversial portrayals confuse and corrupt children.
The creators of South Park have defended these accusations of their show. Matt Stone, co–creator of

Gun Control
Gun control is another crucial problem of school violence. There are way too many school shootings
in America, the most notorious of these being the Columbine High School shooting. It was a
Tuesday; the 110th anniversary of Adolf Hitler's birth, and the school day had started just like any
other day of school. No one could tell that there had been frustration and anger in the hearts of Eric
Harris and Dylan Klebold. They went on like it was a normal day also, although they parked in other
students parking spots and walked in the school with two black duffle bags. They were wearing long
black trench coats which were a trademark of some of the students there called the "trench coat
mafia". It wasn't until they started shooting, with the weapons they had carried in under their coats,
that the students and faculty knew there was something wrong. Coach Dave Sanders risked his life
to save many students while escorting them to safety. Eric and Dylan walked through the school
headed towards the library as the other students hid behind desk, storage rooms, and even

This news may come as a shock with another Father 's Day upon us, but it 's just some of what
Louise Silverstein and Carl Auerbach concluded in a jaw–dropping study on fathers and fatherhood
aptly titled "Deconstructing the Essential Father." Published in American Psychologist, a journal of
the American Psychological Association, the study 's radical conclusions further undermine what
was once beyond debate – the idea that fathers play a crucial role in the health of families and
children. Still sending shockwaves through public–policy circles more than a year after its initial
publication, the study is just one of countless indicators that "Dad" is an endangered species.
Dangerous Dads? Chipping away at some of our most basic conceptions of parenting, the APA study
declares that fathers are not essential to child well–being; the institution of marriage does not serve
the broader interests of society; divorce is not necessarily harmful to children; fathers contribute

The release of early games, such as Pac–Man, Donkey–Kong, and Space Invaders, initiated the
innovative and precedent era of video game popularity; however, modern games follow a distinctly
uniform pattern in violent graphics and paucity of discretion. Whereas early media did little to affect
the teenage psyche, the impact of modern media and its barbaric implications are considerably
heightened by the large teen proclivity towards television, video games, and film. Surveys by the
Kaiser Family Foundation6 have shown that in today's highly digitalized society, children ages eight

Correlatively, research from the Pew Internet Project reveal that 97% of American teenagers play
video games. Such media saturation, while undoubtedly harmful to health and social interactions,
has only become psychologically harmful in recent years with the emergence of violence in
interactive and narrative media. Unable to actively participate in violent crimes in the real world,
teenagers take solace in doing so in the imaginary one, effectively learning to disassociate
themselves from the characters they brutalize and murder. This talent, unfortunately, has become

strengthens local controls, and communities' ability to communicate through the cable system
(Fuentes–Bautista, 2013). Municipalities are entitled to provide the funding for PEG access as
determined by the law. PEG channels are not mandated by federal laws, instead they are a right
given to the designated franchising authority, which it may choose to exercise (FCC). Therefore, the
decision whether to require cable operators to carry PEG channels is delegated to the local
franchising authority. Franchising authorities may also require cable operators to set aside channel
outlets for educational or governmental use on institutional networks (channels ... Show more

Bad Girls Club is a reality show in which seven women share a house for approximately three
months. When new girls enter the house, some girls would be themselves, but will have a bad or
honest side. Most of them will come on the show, and act like, " I'm the baddest", "I'm the realest",
and "If anybody messes with me, they will see my bad side". Other girls portray themselves as very
humble and good. The other girls, don't get into many fights; they are the ones to break up the fights.
Still others would portray themselves as manipulative and try to investigate conflict, just to watch
the other girls in the house argue ('Bad Girls Club', Oxygen, 2006, Television). Oxygen tries to find
fun and entertainment within the Bad Girls Club, but the show reinforces gender stereotypes. Bad
Girls Club defines traditional female stereotypes because the girls are generally strong and
independent young women. The girls feels the need to show dominance through fighting, screaming,
swearing, and partying (Boyer. 2011). The portrayal of young women are not traditional, but Bad
Girls Club does not create a positive image on young girls. For example, a bad girl should be
feminine, and able to defend herself verbally and physically, very sexually active, materialistic,
dress a certain way along with fitting other similar stereotypes (Boyer.

Censorship And Its Effect On Children
Namita Sharma Mr. McCormick 2/19/2015 ENG 3U1 Monkey See, Monkey Do Monkey see,
monkey do, a simple phrase relevant to today's society. Those in society that simply do not know
any better, such as children, are inclined to imitate what they see being done. Without censorship
daily television shows are increasingly exhibiting more violence, foul language and sexuality to
susceptible youth. Due to lack of censorship, explicit music lyrics and inappropriate images on
music videos are being introduced to impressionable children. There is a lack of control on the
internet leading to internet addiction and forces vulnerable adolescents to face cyber bullying. In a
variety of mediums not enough censorship is used, which influences impressionable youth to think
and behave negatively. The increasing amount of violence, foul language and sexuality available to
children on TV is harmful to their development. What was once a time for children to watch TV
with content suitable for their age is now directed for an older audience, Family Hour. Statistics
show that this is the time most children are watching television with their family members. Despite
knowing this, "Since 2000–2001, the amount of sexual content during the Family Hour has
increased by 22.1%" (Parents Television Council 55). A poll done later in March of 2007 asked the
general public if they thought there was too much sexual content on television. 79% of those that
participated in the poll stated that there was too much.

Along the coast of Maryland, just inside the state lines of Virginia lies the Quantico Naval Base,
home to a fictional investigative team lead by the unpredictable Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The ever
popular television show, NCIS, focuses on solving crimes with naval victims. These crimes have
one thing in common: violence. In 2005, some workers at Quantico find a "meat puzzle" (C.

a massacred body, sliced into many pieces, displayed on multiple tables in the NCIS morgue (C.

Torr 64). After near exhaustion of the criminal theme, medical dramas began to dip their toes into
the pool of television programming. The seemingly chaotic kindling of crime on television sent the
content of programming into a regrettable downward spiral of quality. The same old violence was no
longer as entertaining, which caused networks to increase the magnitude of the violence on their
shows (J. Torr 66) in order to continue engaging viewers. This progression has brought
programming to where it lies now: in trouble. The effects and solutions to the violence displayed on
television are important due to the ever increasing viewer base of certain types of programming.
Through a sundry of studies, spanning many years, from several sources, comes the debate on just
what all this violence displayed for anyone and everyone to see is doing to the viewers and how we
can solve it.
Desensitization is a very insidious process which leads one to a greater acceptance of violence with
less sympathy for those who become victim to the violent acts (Television Violence). Researchers
Comstock and Paik believe there are four areas that decide if what is being watched will affect the
viewer (J. Osofsky 82). The first of these four–and the one of the reasons that society is starting to
accept violence–is efficacy. "Efficacy relates to whether the violence on the screen is rewarded or
punished," (J. Osofsky 83). There is almost no punishment seen in programs after a

People should mull over every dissimilar dynamic involved prior to setting their sight on the

depends on the way people try to tackle this concern. People ought to use all the data at their

people can gain familiarity, information and examples on the way young people are affected by sex

This may ensure a positive outcome, most definitely with individual cases. "There are a number of
ways parents can limit their children's exposure to violence. Restricting the amount and types of
programs children watch is probably the most effective and common means of mediation. However,
there are also strategies that are specifically appropriate for adolescents" (Josephson, 2011).
Therefore, eliminating movies, television and video games completely is not a solution, but since
adolescents are at home when viewing them, perhaps creating parental controls will make it difficult
to watch sex and violence. If parents take the time and research or even create a list of questions
with possible issues that stem from adolescents viewing sex and violence constantly, they can use
this as a guideline to support their fears and interests. Researching this information today, parents
can receive a substantial amount of feedback from friends, family, professional agencies even from
other adolescents. Parents tend to wish they could recognize and evaluate problems that have
already come to light, which is only because they would like to be able and change the outcome.
"American adolescents spend an average of 6 hours and 32 minutes each day using media

Advertisements And The Appeal Of Fear

Appeal to Fear Advertisements can be positive and negative in a person's day to day life.
Advertisements are all around us. Advertisements can be found on t.v., internet, magazines and on
billboards. Some of these advertisements help decide what people should spend money on. Those
advertisements give people so many different choices on what clothes and makeup people want to
buy, what different foods are out there to satisfy the different cravings people have or what exotic
vacation destination to take. The one advertisement that sticks out the most to me are the
advertisements about drinking and driving. Advertisers and Advertisements use the fear appeal to
get these driver's attention to stop and face the reality of what drinking and driving will do to
themselves and to others. Drinking and driving is a huge problem. When you are under the influence
of alcohol you are putting yourself and others at risk for injuries and even death. Budweiser created

The Effects on Media Violence Essay
I chose this topic because I want to be a videogame designer and I wanted to defend my right to
create what I want. Unfortunately, after researching this topic it is clear that it is no longer possible
to say violent media is completely harmless. Videogames and television do have harmful effects on
children and young adults. Research has been done since the 1950's and almost all studies show
clear evidence that media violence does cause increased violent tendencies, desensitization, and
antisocial behavior – which is the same as sociopathic and psychopathic behavior, it does not mean
introverted.

Research Findings In the media there is a great deal of violence and nobody can really deny that.
However, the effects media has on children and young adults have been debated for years. In this
paper I will be discussing the effects of media violence, the other factors, and the possible solutions
to alleviate this global issue. Violent media has been proven time and time again over the past 60
years to cause increased aggression in children and young adults. The long term and short term
exposure to violent media has been shown to cause "increased feelings of hostility, expectations that
others will behave aggressively, desensitization to the pain of others, and increased likelihood of
interacting and responding to others with violence" (Committee on Public Education). One of the
most famous experiments done on the subject was done in 1961 by the psychologist Albert Bandura
at Stanford University. In this experiment children between the ages of three and six were put in a
playroom containing a many activities and toys (Cherry). One of those toys was a bobo doll; a 5 foot
tall inflatable doll. An adult would enter and either play with the child from a complete ten minutes,
the control group, or at some point during those ten minutes begin beating up the doll, the
experimental group. They would also say things such as "pow" and "he keeps coming back for
more" while attacking it (Cherry).

Media 's Effect On Society
Media's Effect on Society Mass media has been the greatest source of entertainment and
communication in history, and even greater with the explosion of new technology. It is defined as
the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazine that reach or
influence people widely. It is a huge part of our everyday lives; we see media everywhere, and we
know the latest news and trends right away because of this. It is attributed, according to Denis
McQuail in his book Mass Communication and Society, to "influence opinion and belief, change
habits of life, and actively mold behavior." Unfortunately, media affects the public in a way that it
could control what a person does or thinks. More and more people see in media the ... Show more

they are exposed to so many things that could affect their views and habits. Now parents seem
hopeful that their children will make the right decision, but the only problem is that they are
wrongly told of what is agreeable to most people because of suggestive media. May this be as a
result of what the research say that there is too much sex on television; teens are getting the wrong
impression and are not aware of what they are responsible for. All the foul languages and misleading
acts portrayed by television highly influence its audiences especially the young ones. Other than
affecting morality, media also provokes danger to society. As our times modernize many people get

A Critical Research on the Themes of Violence and Drugs in...
Introduction: Historically, cartoons have always evolved along two different paths. Because the
potential for silliness, absurdity and unreality are magnified by the possibilities of animation,
cartoons are accurately thought of as being perfect for the elastic and growing mind of children.
However, because of many of these same characteristics, cartoons have always been seen as an ideal
medium for biting satire and ridiculous farce aimed at adults. Today, with the availability of
information and media at the most saturated level it has ever been, the line between these two
separate paths has become blurred. As a result, there is a sense amongst social critics that cartoons
on television are more explicitly stocked with drug use, violence and other adult themes than even in
the generation of cartoons just passed. Rationale: Since the inception of The Simpsons in 1989, the
first primetime cartoon to achieve lasting success since The Flintstones, it has increasingly become
commonplace to gear cartoons toward adult audiences. Evidence suggests that this predisposition is
greater now than it was in the 1990s. It is thus that the current crop of cartoons on network and basic
cable television are themed in a manner that would be wholly inappropriate for children. Among
these, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park and Archer stand out as examples of highly popular,
long–running cartoons that are rife with hard drug usage, graphic sexual imagery, extreme violence

Objectification Of Women In Reality Television
Reality television also characterizes women as being poorly behaved. Reality television shows often
broadcast women as drama filled, vapid, self–loathing and negative humans. The negativity that is
shown to women on reality television supports the objectification of women and women viewers
participating in poor behavior. Only twenty–four percent of what women say about themselves on
reality television is positive ("Reality TV"). In all shows across reality television only twenty–one
point four percent of talk directed towards females was positive. This included females talking to
other females, males talking to females, and females talking about themselves (Parents Television
Council). A woman constantly being negatively talked about helps to the unfortunate objectification
of women. Women are shown on reality television as money hungry, drama filled, and below men.
Swantek describes this phenomenon by stating "the common distortion of gender roles remains
years behind that of actual society and demonstrates that despite immense progress for women, an
overall acceptance of gender equality is still lagging behind." On most reality television shows, one
woman is angled as the antagonist, she often creates drama and is angled as narcissistic. An example
of this would be Katherine from Southern Charm. Right off the bat, Katherine is portrayed as a
young gold digger when she starts to date an older man who has money. Katherine gets in fights

Do Babies Learn From The Media Essay
Do babies learn from media? Parents today barely think of what the repercussions of letting their
children watch long periods of television would do to them. But is watching television beneficial to
their growth? Will the baby be able to absorb and retain the information placed in front of them on a
screen? In the past, babies were taught through the parents, but with the emerging companies like
Disney, Apple, and Baby Einstein, that entice parents, there is a new alternative. New outlets of
media, such as IPads, IPhones, video games, and the internet can have impacts on the child's
development. And also older forms of media such as television.
In the article "Do Babies Learn From Baby Media?" by Judy S. DeLoache (2010), she conducted a
series of tests, to see if children retain any information from the media they were watching. She
tested three groups; parent teaching, video with interaction, and video without interaction. The two

The Influence of Mass Media on the Young Male Image Essay
Mass media creates a stereotype promoting an image of how a young man should act, appear, or
resemble in today's society. The media has a great influence over what we view and hear as a society
and it can have an effect especially on a younger men and the image that they want to portray.
Moreover, the media has a lot to do with the image we perceived in our minds and young men are
easily perusable by what they see or hear. With the media flooding negative influence, it builds up to
having this negative effect on younger men by how they look and feel about themselves and others.
Furthermore, a man even a younger one is not to expose their vulnerabilities, weaknesses or to even
to display emotions such as love and fear. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While young men in the media are portrayed as having the characteristics described above, they are
discouraged to portray other physical characteristics. However, Lyness states that, "Guys put enough
pressure on themselves, but what about the pressure society puts on them to be perfect? It used to be
that only girls felt the pressure of picture–perfect images, but these days the media emphasis on
men's looks creates a sense of pressure for guys, too. And sometimes that "as–advertised" body is
just not attainable" (par 5). Furthermore, it could give a younger male viewer a false sense on what
is considering being a normal self–mental image. Another example how the media creates this false
image in younger males minds is by the programs that air over the networks helping create this false
image in younger male generation. Comparably, in Michael Abernethy article about Male Bashing
on TV, he describes how this bashing is affecting men of all ages, "The jokes have become standard
fare," he says. Abernethy is describing how younger men are the butt of all jokes and that how by,
"Looking at a handful of sitcoms makes the situation seem relatively insignificant, but when those
sitcoms are combined with dozens of negative ads, which repeat frequently, then a poor image of
men is created in the minds of viewers" (Abernethy, 14). With this, Abernethy is pointing out how

Screening Time : The Importance Of Screen Time On Children
It is hard to imagine life without the internet. The virtual world is available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. Even schools use electronics as a part of their everyday teaching curriculum. Despite
its benefits for modern day life, this unlimited availability may pose risks to from early childhood
through adolescence. There is never a shortage of online possibilities and without limits screen time
can overrun children's lives. Parents need to play an active role in monitoring and limiting their
child's screen time.
Opinion With Rationales
What is an acceptable amount of screen time? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends
that children over two years of age and adolescents have less than two hours of screen time a day
(Houghton, et al., p. 1). However, that recommendation was originally made in 1999 and only
considered screen time that was used for entertainment. Since so much screen time these days is
now spent for educational and social media purposes, two hours may no longer be practical
(Houghton, et al., p. 9). Screen time activities for academic, social, education purposes are
"seamlessly integrated" into children's daily routine (Houghton, et al., p. 2). Cell phone apps make it
easy to log on anytime with the push of a button. It is not surprising a recent study showed that 45%
of eight year olds and 80% of 16 year olds exceeded the recommended two hours of daily screen
time.
Consistent limits need to be place on the amount of screen time per

is unknown, but they make a valid point. Any and all the information anyone could ever want is
available to anyone and everyone who wants it. The Internet has absolutely no limits because it's
infinite; no one can control it. There's no way. It's because of this fact that there are sites like
WikiLeaks popping up, snubbing their noses at the government knowing that there is nothing to be
done to stop them. However, it's also because of WikiLeaks that the government and other private
sources have started to step in and moderate what should be considered appropriate. Take, for
example, the school board in Cohasset, Massachusetts. Dr. June Talvite–Siple was caught by parents
making derogatory remarks about her students and the school district on her Facebook page,
resulting in her firing. While it's easy for Dr. Siple to argue that she believed her privacy settings
were set in such a way that no one but her friends would be able to see her posts, the issue still

Teen TV Show Ad Analysis: How Sexual Content Grabs Attention

  • 1. Teen Tv Show Ad Analysis Teen TV Show Ads – Pushing The Envelop Ads are made to grab our attention and persuade us to buy or support a product. When it comes down to TV Shows and ads, it depends on what type of show it is. If the show is a supernatural show, the ad could be a very dark. If the show is a comedy, the ad would be very light. For example, an ad for the TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer shows the titled character's eyes staring at you and the tagline reads: BUFFY LIVES (whedon.org). Contrasting that, in an ad for the comedy series Cougar Town, the main characters are happy and drinking wine like they normally do on the show. The two separate ads clearly explains to the consumer that Buffy will go through a dark time on the show while on Cougar Town, they will be happy and carefree like they usually are. But one type of show, teen dramas, are going for the controversial route with their ads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The television show Gossip Girl like Skins also followed a group of teenagers, but unlike Skins it followed a group privileged teenagers in New York City. Premiering in 2007 on the CW, the show was based off a book series with the same name and the adaptation wasn't well liked at first but entering its second season people were hooked. During the first season, the show put out an ad that read "OMFG" as a character named Nate kisses the cleavage of a character named Serena (Tate). The Parent Television Council did not like this at all. They believed it was a controversial kiss for a kids show, even though Gossip Girl's audience is 18 to 34–year–old women (Foxnews.com). Gossip Girl then used these criticisms for this ad and put them on the ads for their second season. One ad features the character Nate cuddled up with an older woman and reads ""Mind–blowing Inappropriate – Parent Televison Council" (Lawson). Another reads ""A nasty piece of work" – New York Post" as another character Blair is shirtless kissing a guy in the pool ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Effects Of Sexual Content On Children 's Programming Sexual Content in Children's Programming Children's programming is beginning to raise a concern among many parents due to sexual content being included along with other inappropriate scenes like violence, offensive language or verbal abuse. In a news article by Cheryl Wetzstein, she reports that "one in ten parents agreed that there were "a lot" of good programs on for kids" because all the programs are portraying sexual content or violence instead of being educational to children (pg. 40). Due to the recent technological advancements, children's media exposure has increased, causing more children to be bombarded with shows featuring sexual innuendos, sexual activity or adult subtext. Not only is the sexual content being included frequently in programming, children are facing the content in advertisements as well. An example of this is the advertisement poster for The Lion King. The film poster features the face of Simba in which many analyzers and parents are pointing out that between the eyes and above the nose features an image that looks like the "butt of a naked woman" creating a sexualized image some children could pick up on (Fyfe, 2006, pg. 8). Sexual content throughout children's programming can have both positive and negative effects on the children watching. Many children will become able to understand what is going on in the show or film causing questioning and new thoughts or ideas about sexual activity While parents have a concern about sexual content being ... Sexual content in the programming can have both positive and negative effects on the children watching and understanding what is going on in the show or film. While parents have a concern about sexual content being included into programming for children, positive effects should be noticed along with the negative effects being discussed. Much of the sexual content goes unnoticed due to the small hidden images in art or subliminal messages and sexual innuendos. Due to many children being unaware of the effects of media and the content involved, parents should become informed about the types of content in programming, the effects of ... • 7. Collaboration Pl Phase 2 Collaboration Plan: Phase 2 Parent Section: Communication between teachers and the parents of students is essential for the growth and success of the student both inside and outside of the classroom. This communication is best achieved through parent conference opportunities. One way that this is achieved is through regular open house nights. This is where parents, and other members of the community, are invited to come to the school and talk to the teachers and other faculty at the school. Another conference opportunity presents itself in a scheduled appointment between the teacher and the parent. This will enable the parent to meet face–to–face with their child's teacher during a time that is more convenient to them, as these appointments can occur before, during, and after school. Additionally, conferences can take place over the phone. This is a convenient way for both parties to communicate effectively in a way that works best for them. Parent involvement is key to a child's academic success; this can be accomplished through the parent's participation in an advisory council. A parent–teacher organization meets regularly to discuss the workings of the school and the parents that take part in the meeting are rewarded with a voice to make suggestions and give active feedback to the school. This enables parents and teachers to discuss matters dealing with the education of their child. Another council that advocates the voice of parents is the Mississippi Read ... Being selfless can at times produce and either positive or negative outcome. Sometimes the negative outcome conduced an adverse response that lead me to invest, and place indifferent people before myself. Ultimately, I decided to use my quality in a way that would not only affect others in a positive way, but would also positively affect me. If I could choose one piece of important information to give to individuals who are considering becoming a parent the knowledge I would provide them with is explaining to the parents how expensive raising a child is (In–class discussion 08/27/15). First, they would need to start saving their money. An infant can add up to 241,000 (Holden 2015). I would explain to the parents all of the first year expenses related to having a newborn baby (Holden 2015). Second, they would need to start purchasing diapers, formula, and etc. before the baby arrives (In–class discussion on 09/03/15). Third, they need to set up a bed for the infant to take home to sleep in (In–class discussion on 09/03/15). I choose this piece of important knowledge because this will benefit the parents to know how much they need to save before considering having a baby. As discussed in class on 09/03/15, I think after the knowledge of a parent knows how expensive becoming a parent this helps the parent perform variety of tasks towards becoming a parent. I think it is important to tell all individuals who want to become a parent that becoming a parent is rewarding and at the same time hard work and very expensive. Finally I think teaching them about the expenses on being a parent will help them succeed at becoming a parent and learn how to enjoy being a parent so they will not be stress out about money situations and enjoy the beautiful pregnancy. 2. • 19. Essay about Television is NOT the Sole Cause of Violence... Violence in Children Is Not Just From TV Most parents expect a four year old to be very active and zealous, but never violent. However, some children exhibit violent behavior, such as running around the playground kicking, karate chopping and biting other children. The following example is based on personal experience. In 1997 this was the case with a family in Georgia who had a son with these behavioral problems. The parents took their child to counseling in order to figure out what the problem was. After a brief counseling session, those parents were perplexed and angry. It was difficult for them to believe that a counselor would blame them or suggest putting their child on drugs. After counseling, the father and child watched the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Kaiser Foundation report "...81 percent of parents have seen their children imitate either positive or aggressive behaviors from TV" (Kaufman 699). A council created by the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Texas at Austin, which included medical organizations, conducted the National Television Violence Study (NTVS). The NTVS found that "...violence often was portrayed in the contextual manner that earlier research suggested would increase the likelihood of negative effects on viewers, especially children" (Shifrin 1). The positive uses of television are that it can teach children with shows like "Sesame Street", where they can learn the alphabet and new words. Children also benefit from watching programs about different cultures, music and art. Television is also a way to allow families to spend time together and have something to talk about. Although, television is a negative influence on children it can also be a positive one. Because of the negative psychological impact that violence in television can have on children, many parents turn to medical solutions. Since the medical solution is always the easiest solution many fail to see alternatives. As an example, the parents discussed earlier visited a counselor for their child; the counselor began with the basic questioning. After fifteen minutes the counselor determined that ... A rite of passage is when a character goes through life changes, realizing his/her flaws and maturing as a person. Walter Lee Younger is a man that goes through many different character changes, which cause conflict amongst the other characters. Once he goes through his rite of passage, he is able to fix his flaws and mature. In Lorraine Hansberry's play, A Raisin in the Sun, characterization is used to portray that one must experience a rite of passage in order to mature. Walter Lee Younger starts off the play as a man who is selfish and immature, willing to put money before family. He is characterized as a very egotistical man that looks for his best interest and not his family's. L.M. Domina, a professor at Hofstra University, giveas her criticism of Walter Lee Younger in an essay, in which she discusses his ravenousness. She states that Walter has become a very greedy man and Mama is upset that he could put money before family, especially when family meant everything to his father. After Walter found out about Ruth's desire for an abortion, his motives were strictly financial, which was a huge disappointment for Mama, as she thought she raised him to think different than that (Domina 193). The Negative Impact of Sexual Content in the Media Essay Since birth human behaviour is influenced by what the individual sees and there surroundings, this influence is greatest at a young age and fades as the individual grows in age, but never completely goes away. In today's society where sex is something that is openly broadcasted in order to promote everything from products to television shows, sex is something that the youth of today are exposed to from an early age. But what effects can this exposure at such a vulnerable stage in life cause? Fast Food Restaurants, Childhood Obesity, and Healthy Eating Habits Today, fast food restaurants are often blamed for childhood obesity. This is however a simplistic point of view, there are a number of factors that contribute to the current epidemic of childhood obesity. • 27. Promoting Healthy Use Of Media For Children And... Promoting Healthy Use of Media for Children and Adolescents Nowadays children and adolescents are exposed to intensive media, such as television, radio, music, video games, smart devices, and any internet based social media. Rideout (2015) reported that on any given day, American teenagers (13–18 years old) spend about nine hours on entertainment media use, excluding time spent at school or for homework. Tweens (8–12 years old) use an average of about six hours ' worth of entertainment media daily. Even though there are 45% of teens using social media "every day," watching television and listening to music dominate young people's media diets. Another national study revealed that the average total time of media use for people 8–18 years old was 10 hours and 45 minutes every day (treating simultaneous media use as distinct activities), regardless of text messaging, phoning, or using computers for school work (Rideout, Rideout, Foehr, & Roberts, 2010). Media use has grown exponentially and become part of the lives of children and adolescents, which is why they are called "generation M" for media. So far, no conclusion about whether media use benefits the social emotional development of children and adolescents has been reached among various professionals, such as educators, psychologists, business people, policy makers, etc. However, children and adolescents are at risk while they use media to explore the world and develop their sense of self because of their limited ... There is a potential problem with letting children watch television. Ask this question, would someone let their own child watch some of the programming that they watch, too? Some of these programs are intended for the adult generation, not young children. Violence has a major role in television these days. Letting children watch this violence could corrupt their minds and eventually lead to bad behavior. There needs to be a limitation on the types of television programming that parents let their children watch, because violence in television can negatively affect children. If parents restrict their children in only watching educational shows rather than violence, the influence of children would rather be more useful and not corrupted. Children view violence in different ways when they watch it on television, whether it is cartoons or a type of drama and action programming. After children have watched these television shows, they may have interpreted the meaning into a negative behavior. It could influence them by becoming aggressive, afraid of the world that surrounds them, or it may lead to confusion. When it is said that children may become confused because their parents teach that violence is wrong. In South Park's situation, the writers use logic and evidence to express their opinions on controversial issues, and people think that it should be censored. Just because the show uses morally questionable techniques, does not mean that it is useless. South Park has parodied almost every major religion so it is understandable that many people are offended. In the episode, Trapped in the Closet, South Park basically calls Scientology a global scam. The LDS church responded to the episode, All About Mormons, by calling it a gross portrayal of the LDS church. The creators of South Park claim that any topic is subject to ridicule, but, because of the Jyllands–Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, South Park has censored images of Muhammad. While they have not been able to ridicule Islam directly, – which is something that the creators never planned to do until this controversy arose – they still mock the censorship controversy itself. Christianity is, by far, the most often parodied religion in South Park. Arguably, the most offensive parody South Park has done involving Christianity is the depiction of Jesus. In South Park, Jesus has his own talk show and appears to be just ordinary. As a recurring character, South Park's Jesus has engaged in acts of speaking profanity, violence, and has been shown with the inability to perform his miracles. This progression has brought programming to where it lies now: in trouble. Violent media has been proven time and time again over the past 60 years to cause increased aggression in children and young adults. The long term and short term exposure to violent media has been shown to cause "increased feelings of hostility, expectations that others will behave aggressively, desensitization to the pain of others, and increased likelihood of interacting and responding to others with violence" (Committee on Public Education). According to one national survey of young people (10–17 years old) who regularly used the Internet, one out of four said he or she had encountered unwanted pornography in the past year, and one out of five had been exposed to unwanted sexual solicitations or approaches (Finkelhor, Mitchell, & Wolak, 2000). Only about 1 in 10 of the programs on television that include sexual content mentions the possible consequences or the need to use contraceptives or protection against STDs. Unintended pregnancies rarely are shown as the outcome of unprotected sex, and STDs other than HIV/AIDS are almost never discussed (Kunkel et al., 2001). Abortion is a taboo topic, too controversial for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... and all around the world has been changed. Now in 2015, everywhere you look in magazines and advertisements there are these thin, beautiful women and strong muscular men with six packs. Body image is something which girls struggle with on an almost daily basis. Societal pressure to be thin has caused many females to resort to extreme dieting, excessive exercise, eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia and self abuse (Cutting, and Binding). Body image directly affects sexuality as well as our perception of it. According to studies at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts, found that 70% of college women say they feel worse about their own looks after reading women's magazines. A 2006 study published in the journal of Psychology of Men and Masculinity showed that not only did watching prime–time television and music videos appear to make men more uncomfortable with themselves, but that the discomfort led to sexual problems (Brown.edu). Personally I struggle with body image and have since I was 7. Usually I would look at the people in magazines, but also I would look at my friends, who could eat anything they want, and never gain a single ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. A Critical Research on the Themes of Violence and Drugs in... Introduction: Historically, cartoons have always evolved along two different paths. Because the potential for silliness, absurdity and unreality are magnified by the possibilities of animation, cartoons are accurately thought of as being perfect for the elastic and growing mind of children. However, because of many of these same characteristics, cartoons have always been seen as an ideal medium for biting satire and ridiculous farce aimed at adults. Today, with the availability of information and media at the most saturated level it has ever been, the line between these two separate paths has become blurred. As a result, there is a sense amongst social critics that cartoons on television are more explicitly stocked with drug use, violence and other adult themes than even in the generation of cartoons just passed. Rationale: Since the inception of The Simpsons in 1989, the first primetime cartoon to achieve lasting success since The Flintstones, it has increasingly become commonplace to gear cartoons toward adult audiences. Evidence suggests that this predisposition is greater now than it was in the 1990s. It is thus that the current crop of cartoons on network and basic cable television are themed in a manner that would be wholly inappropriate for children. Among these, Family Guy, American Dad, South Park and Archer stand out as examples of highly popular, long–running cartoons that are rife with hard drug usage, graphic sexual imagery, extreme violence and ... • 61. Objectification Of Women In Reality Television Reality television also characterizes women as being poorly behaved. Reality television shows often broadcast women as drama filled, vapid, self–loathing and negative humans. The negativity that is shown to women on reality television supports the objectification of women and women viewers participating in poor behavior. Only twenty–four percent of what women say about themselves on reality television is positive ("Reality TV"). In all shows across reality television only twenty–one point four percent of talk directed towards females was positive. This included females talking to other females, males talking to females, and females talking about themselves (Parents Television Council). A woman constantly being negatively talked about helps to the unfortunate objectification of women. Women are shown on reality television as money hungry, drama filled, and below men. Swantek describes this phenomenon by stating "the common distortion of gender roles remains years behind that of actual society and demonstrates that despite immense progress for women, an overall acceptance of gender equality is still lagging behind." On most reality television shows, one woman is angled as the antagonist, she often creates drama and is angled as narcissistic. An example of this would be Katherine from Southern Charm. Right off the bat, Katherine is portrayed as a young gold digger when she starts to date an older man who has money. Katherine gets in fights with several others on the show and ... • 63. Cafe On My Way Home I stopped by the book café on my way home, and as I was reading the latest gay happenings on my tablet, a new person came through the door. I stopped at the book café almost every day, and because I worked there on Tuesday afternoons I never had to pay for coffee or lunch. So, basically, I knew almost everyone who came in, and in a tiny town most people are either known by name, or visitors. The man was tall, had dirty blonde hair that was tied in a man–bun, and wore a blue padded jacket. His jeans were tight, only because his legs were thick, which stretched the material. He took a seat nearby, took off his jacket, and pulled a notebook and some papers from his book bag. He had only a dark blue t–shirt on, and tufts of hair jutted out from the stretched neckline. As he sat, I could see his forearms and biceps had been worked on, and were surprisingly tanned for this time of the winter. His long, strong fingers guided the pen across the paper. I couldn't wait until Tuesday, when I would be working, and hoped he would still be in town so I could strike up a conversation with him. Well, Tuesday came, and sure enough, my writer 'friend ' returned to the same table at the same time as before. It appeared he was wearing the same clothes, and went to work rather quickly after he came in. From behind the counter, I could study his features without being too obvious. His face has a few days worth of stubble growth, but it could not hide his naturally chiselled chin and his thick, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Do Babies Learn From The Media Essay Do babies learn from media? Parents today barely think of what the repercussions of letting their children watch long periods of television would do to them. But is watching television beneficial to their growth? Will the baby be able to absorb and retain the information placed in front of them on a screen? In the past, babies were taught through the parents, but with the emerging companies like Disney, Apple, and Baby Einstein, that entice parents, there is a new alternative. New outlets of media, such as IPads, IPhones, video games, and the internet can have impacts on the child's development. And also older forms of media such as television. In the article "Do Babies Learn From Baby Media?" by Judy S. DeLoache (2010), she conducted a series of tests, to see if children retain any information from the media they were watching. She tested three groups; parent teaching, video with interaction, and video without interaction. The two of the three were told to watch the video, one of these two were told to watch the video with their baby while the other was told that the baby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 69. The Influence of Mass Media on the Young Male Image Essay Mass media creates a stereotype promoting an image of how a young man should act, appear, or resemble in today's society. The media has a great influence over what we view and hear as a society and it can have an effect especially on a younger men and the image that they want to portray. Moreover, the media has a lot to do with the image we perceived in our minds and young men are easily perusable by what they see or hear. With the media flooding negative influence, it builds up to having this negative effect on younger men by how they look and feel about themselves and others. Furthermore, a man even a younger one is not to expose their vulnerabilities, weaknesses or to even to display emotions such as love and fear. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While young men in the media are portrayed as having the characteristics described above, they are discouraged to portray other physical characteristics. However, Lyness states that, "Guys put enough pressure on themselves, but what about the pressure society puts on them to be perfect? It used to be that only girls felt the pressure of picture–perfect images, but these days the media emphasis on men's looks creates a sense of pressure for guys, too. And sometimes that "as–advertised" body is just not attainable" (par 5). Furthermore, it could give a younger male viewer a false sense on what is considering being a normal self–mental image. Another example how the media creates this false image in younger males minds is by the programs that air over the networks helping create this false image in younger male generation. Comparably, in Michael Abernethy article about Male Bashing on TV, he describes how this bashing is affecting men of all ages, "The jokes have become standard fare," he says. Abernethy is describing how younger men are the butt of all jokes and that how by, "Looking at a handful of sitcoms makes the situation seem relatively insignificant, but when those sitcoms are combined with dozens of negative ads, which repeat frequently, then a poor image of men is created in the minds of viewers" (Abernethy, 14). • 71. Screening Time : The Importance Of Screen Time On Children It is hard to imagine life without the internet. The virtual world is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Even schools use electronics as a part of their everyday teaching curriculum. Despite its benefits for modern day life, this unlimited availability may pose risks to from early childhood through adolescence. There is never a shortage of online possibilities and without limits screen time can overrun children's lives. Parents need to play an active role in monitoring and limiting their child's screen time. Opinion With Rationales What is an acceptable amount of screen time? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children over two years of age and adolescents have less than two hours of screen time a day (Houghton, et al., p. 1). However, that recommendation was originally made in 1999 and only considered screen time that was used for entertainment. Since so much screen time these days is now spent for educational and social media purposes, two hours may no longer be practical (Houghton, et al., p. 9). Screen time activities for academic, social, education purposes are "seamlessly integrated" into children's daily routine (Houghton, et al., p. 2). Cell phone apps make it easy to log on anytime with the push of a button. It is not surprising a recent study showed that 45% of eight year olds and 80% of 16 year olds exceeded the recommended two hours of daily screen time. These words were spoken by François–Marie Arouet, more well known by his pen name, Voltaire (Quotes About Censorship, #36). A French philosopher from the seventeen hundreds, Voltaire is believed to have influenced the Founding Fathers of America. As a matter of fact, this quote makes up the backbone of the First Amendment from the U.S. Constitution, which states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Any and all the information anyone could ever want is available to anyone and everyone who wants it. The Internet has absolutely no limits because it's infinite; no one can control it. There's no way. It's because of this fact that there are sites like WikiLeaks popping up, snubbing their noses at the government knowing that there is nothing to be done to stop them. However, it's also because of WikiLeaks that the government and other private sources have started to step in and moderate what should be considered appropriate. Take, for example, the school board in Cohasset, Massachusetts. Dr. June Talvite–Siple was caught by parents making derogatory remarks about her students and the school district on her Facebook page, resulting in her firing. While it's easy for Dr. Siple to argue that she believed her privacy settings were set in such a way that no one but her friends would be able to see her posts, the issue still stands. She was criticizing her place of work on the Internet, a place where anyone can find information about anything. If a prospective teacher or someone considering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. How Does Reality Tv Affect Women Women on reality television shows are often overly sexualized. Over forty percent of prime time reality television contains sexual content (Swantek). This stereotype and the increasing amount of sexual content exposed have an impact on younger female viewers. Girls are taught from a very early age by the media that their attractiveness determines their value. This is proven by a study the Girl Scout Research Institute performed. The Parents Television Council conducted a study about the most popular reality television series on the television. The study concluded, "There was a prevalence of sexual language used when referring to females" and "the words males used to describe females were often sexualized and/or degrading." "Females were the object of a curse word using the harshest profanity the equivalent of once every four minutes and ten seconds" on reality television (Parents Television Council).
