Duckweed Experiment
What is duckweed? The was the first question that went through my mind when this lab was
assigned. This resulted in pre–lab research. The first thing I learned was that duckweed, is a tiny
aquatic flowering plant that floats in large quantities on still water, often forming an apparently
continuous green layer on the surface. When my group was tasked with choosing our manipulative
factor we decided on temperature manipulation. Based on the basic information we all had on
duckweed due to our pre–lab questions, my group knew that duckweed is capable of growing in
very harsh conditions in regards to pH, temperature, and light. Knowing this came to our advantage
when we developed our hypothesis. We hypothesized that while under the different temperature
conditions of an incubator, a fridge, and room temperature, the sample of frongs under grown under
the incubator would remain healthy throughout the process while ... Show more content on

Were there any sources of error that could have contributed to false data in our experiment? The fast
decline of the room temperature, was a red flag. Why would a sample that appeared to be healthy
and thriving suddenly die within the span of 7 days? The possible sources of error I can predict
regarding that part of the experiment would be the fluctuations in light based on its location in the
room and amount of water that was filled on day 12 as possibly someone in the group forgot to refill
the sample after noticing evaporation. The fluctuating temperature changes inside the room as well
as the weather conditions and temperature conditions outside is also a possible source of error
regarding the sample. I cannot identify any sources of error in regards to the fridge and incubator
samples as their results could be backed up by our pre–lab research on duckweed growth in hot and
cold

Participant Observation In Sociological Research
The two different methods that can be used in observation is with participant observation and visual
sociology. The participant observation is an observation of people being studied. This method is not
often successful, sociologists are needed to participate in the participant's daily life that is being
observed. The people that will help with this method will be people in their social group ( family,
friends, professors, coworkers etc.) This method is needed for the sociologists be objective
observers and be the actual participants in the social of their study. The observers record their
observations in notes, which will be useful for examination of the study. In the visual sociology, the
techniques that are being used here are photography and videotape. These techniques are methods
for interviewing.
Experiment– Experiment has three different methods. The first method is controlled experiments. In
controlled experiments, researchers have a dependent variable that lets them ... Show more content

There is five different methods for survey research. The first one is national censuses, this surveys
are used in market research, election polling, opinion polling, television ratings. This method is the
most used in sociological surveys. The second method is sample surveys, in this sample researchers
gather demographic and ecological facts about people they are researching. The third method is
opinion polls, this method has marketing polls that help corporations to make decisions about their
products. The fourth method is sampling error , this is part of the opinions palls. This important

method is questionnaire design. This method requires a lot of attention and many details at the same

ELL Student Observation Sample
Over the summer, I was able to observe an ELL students through the children's Sunday school at my
church. I work Sunday school about once a month and I have had the pleasure of working with
James, who was born in Mexico and moved to Florida when he was 6 months old. He is 8 years old
now and has come so far since he moved here. The church I go to is also a school so James was a
student there as well. When I spoke to James he did not seem any different from the other students.
Since he has practically lived in Florida his whole life, he understood and spoke English pretty well.
His parents only spoke Spanish though, so he still spoke Spanish with them.

He understood the meaning of the words he was speaking. My favorite time with him was when we
were reading a Bible story about God's love and he turned to me and said "I am so happy God loves
me because I love him too!" Even though love is also a feeling, he was able to connect it to his own
life and give it meaning. Syntax on the other hand was a little more challenging for him because he
could not form good complete sentences. There would usually be a small error when he would talk,
like forgetting words like it and the. I tried helping him with this by correcting him and every time I
did he would say "Oh yeah, I forgot" and he would continue with his story.
James was a talker and if you gave him a subject to talk about he would do anything to keep talking,
even make up everything. He had great discourse because he was really able to talk about something
forever. Now, what he is saying may not be true but he will try to tell you everything he knows
about the subject. He was also very good at writing stories. He told me that when he goes home, he
writes stories on his Mom's Ipad. Since he was great at telling stories he was pretty good at
pragmatics. He could have a normal back and forth conversation. James would always answer any
questions you may

When I first arrived to volunteer at the facility of Crestview, I did not imagine to acquire all the
advice given to me by the elders that reside there. Our goal with this project was to go every
monday morning and paint the residents nails. Also we got to visit with them and learn from their
experiences. It wasn't just about serving, but it was about gaining the knowledge we ourselves did
not know. Every now and then my group and I would go around delivering items to the patients that
are not as active. It was just exciting to see how some patients reacted to us being there, they really
enjoyed our company.
Later I joined the program of WYSE, which stands for Wisdom for Youth from Senior Expertise.
This program runs for 10 weeks at the facilities of Crestview and Arbor Oaks. A student is paired
with a resident, and they receive their guidance of their own experiences. Luckily I got paired with

about her life . I find it interesting everything they went through, and that she was proud to be the
eldest person to live that long in her family. Even though she is old, she still manages to amaze
people with her energy and laughter. There were some ladies that did not want to talk to us, they
were basically not full of life anymore. Personally I hope at that age that I still have laugher and a
good memory. Honestly I love these experiences because you learn that not everyone has a good
life, but they get through it. In the end as long as you commit yourself to something it can be
possible. Before even attending these meetups I did not care about anything other than my age
group. This experience gave me an insight into another world that i did not think of. I think we as

METHODS OF OBSERVATION
Narrative/free description/written record or running record
A running record is a very detailed description of the behaviour of a child over a short period of
time, often less than five minutes. The observer watches a child or group of children and note down
everything he sees, which gives the portrait of the child and his activity during this particular period
of time.
The observer sits quietly and tries not to draw attention to him as his interaction may affect the
behaviour of the child. It helps to avoid eye contact!
These observations usually cover a short period of time are written in the present tense because you
record things as they happen. Sticky note could be use to jot down the information.
It is a good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aggressive behaviour might include hitting, biting, scratching, and verbal abuse or temper
tantrum.
The advantages of event sample are very important, they give us very precise data, when the data
has been collected the data is very accessible. One very important advantage is that it can reveal
unexpected patterns and behaviour.
The disadvantages of event sample are that when the child is observed it is very difficult not to be
noticed this by the child this is turn may give false results. Another main disadvantage is observing a
child may be very difficult at times, the observer may lose concentration therefore not able to log all
the details.
Anecdotal
Narrative of descriptive paragraph recorded after the behaviour occurs.
An anecdote is a story. In reality when the child is being observed its like telling a story when and
what happens. It is a very difficult thing to do but the data collected is very important to child
psychologists, all the data collected is normally in the past the When used for observing; it is a story
about a child's behaviour.
Anecdotes are the most commonly used tool in gathering information about children.
One of the main reasons for this is because they are quick to record. It is a good idea to carry a
notebook and pen with you at all times. Quickly jot down some brief notes to jog your memory.
Later when time permits

On Wednesday 06/21/17 at 1437 hours I heard Auburn Animal Control G. Winner state via the radio
he located a vehicle with a stolen license plate on it at White River Estates located at 4248 A ST SE
in the City of Auburn, King Co, WA. Officer Winner provided a license plate WA/AIB4783 and
dispatch advised it returned stolen out of Issaquah Police Department.
While enroute I heard Officer V. Martinez state he was with the vehicle, which was occupied by two
subjects, and they were not being cooperative.
When I arrived, I observed Officers conducting a high risk vehicle stop on a red Honda Accord and
they had taken the male driver of the vehicle into custody. I observed a female standing outside the
front passenger seat, and Officer Martinez advised to take her into custody. I placed the female into
handcuffs, which I checked for proper fit and double locked, and escorted the female to my patrol
vehicle. I told the female she was being detained for being in a stolen vehicle, and advised her of her
Constitutional Rights from my pre–printed Miranda card. I asked the female if she understood her
rights, and she said yes. I asked her If she was willing to speak with me and she said yes. The female
verbally identified herself as Aqilah Ali. I later verified Ali's identity by her DOL photo, which I
obtained through Auburn Records department. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I conducted my observations at the HUB, outside where the tables are located. I decided upon this
location due to its large size, alongside the fact that it is placed in a spot where most people have to
pass by while walking to class. Additionally, I decided to sit outside the HUB rather than inside due
to the fact that I would be exposed to more people, sounds, and smells; I would be out in the open
rather than a closed setting. Almost every UCR faculty member takes pride in mentioning how
diverse the UCR campus is, however, I had not truly recognized how diverse the campus is until I
sat down and focused on observing other people. I noticed people of all sizes, skin colors, hair types,
speaking a wide array of different languages and eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest difference were the population size, drinks of choice, and noise level. The group of
people sitting outside the HUB decreased in size from Wednesday at noon to Friday at 10 am. I
deduce that this was due to the fact that maybe people were not on campus yet as they had later
classes, or most were in class already. Moreover, I noticed that people were mostly drinking water
during my observation period on Wednesday, whereas the overall drink of choice on Friday was
coffee. I presume this shift in drink choice was due to the change in time; people enjoy drinking
coffee in the mornings and/or it helps people reduce the groggy, tired feeling of waking up. The
noise level was the most drastic change. The HUB and its surroundings were boisterous and lively
during Wednesday at noon whereas the HUB fell a bit silent during Friday at 10 am. I consider this
change drastic as the decrease in noise level was outstandingly clear almost immediately. I assume
this was due to the fact that most people were still waking up and had not yet summoned all energy.
With these observations, I not only improved my observational skills, however, I also realized how
fortunate I am to attend a school that celebrates and encourages diversity among

Isanti, MN. I was able to complete my 20 hour observation in a 1st grade classroom (primary), a 3rd
grade classroom (intermediate), and conducted fluency tests in a 5th grade classroom. Each class
had approximately 22 to 25 students. Also during this literacy class, I was also able to spend a few
days observing a 3rd/4th grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom through a couple of sub jobs
I completed. I need to note that my understanding was that 3rd grade was part of the intermediate
program so I completed half my observation and assessment time with a 3rd grade classroom and

I conducted the first part of my assessment (word lists) to determine what passage would be
appropriate for the 1st grade student. I was very nervous to conduct this assessment because I was
worried about not being able to determine students' reading level and/or not being able to figure out
the area (i.e. fluency, comprehension, etc.) in which the student needed additional support in. I am
happy to say that it wasn't as scary as I thought. I was surprised how much I learned about the
student by simply reviewing their list of words. It was pretty obvious when they were hitting the
frustration level.
September 21, 2017 (8:30–12:30) My classroom experience included: observing the classroom
teacher leading group discussion (reviewing sight words, decoding words, and reading the weekly
story), assisting students with reading worksheets (practice writing their letters and identifying
beginning sounds of words), and reviewing the weekly story with each student. This particular
teacher strictly uses a basal reader (Reading Streets) so I was very interested to observe her teaching
using these particular materials. I have substituted in her classroom many times and have found it
very hard to teach utilizing these lessons. Students' often become restless and their eyes seem to
gloss over because of boredom. I often thought that I must be doing something wrong when I am
teaching the materials, but during observation I saw that the

I could also use focus groups in the NHS to find out information about ways to improve the
efficiency, equity, effectiveness and quality of health care services they provide. After carrying out
the focus group, the NHS is left with a lot of qualitative data which is good as it is full of details and
information on ways to improve the educational leaflets however the data has to be compared and
recorded based on the views and opinions of people that represent their target population which is
not easy to do. In order to make comparisons, the NHS needs large samples of information because
they want good qualitative answers to make comparisons and also to evaluate the service they
provide, however a focus group is likely to present a small sample of information for the NHS but if
the focus group is representative it will generate good accurate results. However the NHS may need
a large sample so using a focus group may not be suitable. As head of human resources, I have been
asked by Paul slater to find out new ways teachers can use to teach students. I have chosen to

teachers teach and the resources they use that may help others. Observing teachers is good for

content area that this strategy comes from is social and emotional development and in the KDI of
sense of competence. I implemented the strategy multiple times throughout the anecdote by asking

competence" (Epstein, 2012, p. 46). I told her that I started the cutting for her, but I think that she
can finish it herself now that I had gotten it started for her.
b. Another teaching strategy from the suggestions for adult section includes "acknowledging when
children are playing with other children" (Epstein, 2012, p. 96). The content area that this strategy
comes from is social and emotional development and it is under the KDI of cooperative play. I
implemented this strategy by asking the children about their interactions with their peers. I asked

Difference Between Male And Females
In this naturalistic observation study I looked at the differences between male and females regarding
their actions upon greeting another person. I looked at the frequency in which they hugged or
performed a different action (e.g. waving, speech, other etc.). Ultimately this information was used
to find whether males or females hug when greeting more often than the other gender. The variable
of interest in this experiment are gender and the action upon greeting.Gender is conceptually defined
as the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences
rather than biological ones). The action upon greeting is conceptually defined as what both males
and females do (e.g. hug or wave, etc.) when meeting with someone of familiarity. My hypothesis
for this observation was that upon greeting someone girls will hug more often than guys.
In this naturalistic observation in order to remain out of the environment and keep away from
intervening I recorder data a distance away from the main trafficked area of greeting. This was so
my actions or presence would not prohibit the sample population from proceeding with their natural
behavior. My sampling location was only at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. The time sampling
used was an hour from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. When choosing my sample population I chose people
greeting around the ground floor entrance to the library that were in eyesight of my data recording
position. The sample population in this

When is it appropriate to use the observation method to conduct research on subjects? Clearly, a
number of questions that researchers want or need to address relating to human behaviors or actions
cannot be addressed or answered by traditional research methods. One of the best ways to answer a
number of these questions is the use of observation. Observational research is best used when the

Can the participants provide the answers needed in the research questions being study?
Do the observers provide enough time to truly record the real responses of the participants?

Concepts Of Statistical Studies Essay
Basic Concepts of Statistical Studies
1
Introduction s Decision makers make better decisions when they use all available information in
an effective and meaningful way. The primary role of statistics is to to provide decision makers with
methods for obtaining and analyzing information to help make these decisions. Statistics is used to
answer long–range planning questions, such as when and where to locate facilities to handle future
sales.
2
Definition s Statistics is defined as the
science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing and interpreting numerical data for the
purpose of assisting in making a more effective decision.
3
Applications in Management s Accounting Public accounting firms use ... Show more content on

Alternatively, a numeric code could be used for the class standing variable (e.g. 1 denotes Freshman,
2 denotes Juniors and so on).
16
Scales of Measurement s Interval
The data have the properties of ordinal data, and the interval between observations is expressed in
terms of a fixed unit of measure. Interval data are always numeric.
17
Scales of Measurement s Interval
Example: Shruti has an MAT score of 605, while Raj has an MAT score of 655. Raj scored 50 points
more than Shruti.
18
Scales of Measurement s Ratio
The data have all the properties of interval data and the ratio of two values is meaningful. Variables
such as distance, height, weight, and time use the ratio scale. This scale must contain a zero value
that indicates that nothing exists for the variable at the zero point.
19
Scales of Measurement s Ratio
Example: Raj's college record shows 36 credit hours earned, while Kevin's record shows 72 credit
hours earned. Kevin has twice as many credit hours earned as Raj's.
20
Qualitative and Quantitative Data
Data can be further classified as being qualitative or quantitative. The statistical analysis that is
appropriate depends on whether the data for the variable are qualitative or quantitative. In general,
there are more alternatives for statistical analysis when the data are quantitative.

Observation Of The Orme Pond
Introduction: Last week, we have a chance to do a lab experiment with the Orme pond in our school.
The purpose of this lab is to help us to have a closer look at an ecosystem and how things function
in it. Besides, it provides us a chance to observe organisms and work with the microscope.
Previously in class, we all read the book "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer. In 'A
Mother's Work', she talked about her pond, and surprisingly, her pond is very similar to the pond we
are observing and writing about.

1) Define the following terms:
i) Inferential statistics is reasonable conclusions based on assumption of what one will have
observed. (Tucker 1988) It is restricted to one's environment for example one might say tall people
are fast runners or big women are associated with high blood pressure. (Chimedza, Muchengetwa,
Chinyemba 2010) ii) According to (Chimedza, Muchengetwa & Chinyemba 2010) data is a
collection of numbers or observations of things that are happening brought together for reference or
analysis for example hourly movement of a cyclone.(Tucker 1988) iii) Representative sample refers
to a particular group that will have been chosen to represent others that is a subset of a statistical
population that accurately reflects the members of the entire population (Tucker 1988) For example
in a class of six students three male and three female this is unbiased but well represented. iv)
Qualitative data is data that cannot be measured numerically and but describes (Tucker 1988) for
example sex or marital status.
v) Discrete data refers to specific separate and distinct variables. (Moore 1995, 2000) For example
colour of hair or eyes even number of books in a library.
b) Differentiate the following terms
i) Systematic sampling elements are chosen following a systematic procedure at evenly spaced
intervals after the first has been randomly selected for example a researcher can get opinions of
residents of a particular suburb by interviewing one house in each street

In the past two weeks I have been helping and guiding my boyfriend Richard of three years with his
resume and cover letter. I have a lot of practice and experience with them where as he started
working at a young age and hasn't moved around often in jobs. We looked at his skills and traits and
started linking them to what an employer wants. Employers want a certain education and skill but
they also want a certain personality. Someone who can work well with others, is helpful and has
good communication skills, someone who is dependable and hard working. I have spent the last two
weeks comparing our professional traits so I will base this around his professional life. Richard

Number 2, critical or quarrelsome. I marked Richard very low for this, he agrees with others or will
completely stay out of the conversation to avoid any quarrel. he is good natured, forgiving, gullible,
and helpful. Before he started dating me, he would never assert himself during conversations, or
have a strong opinion in fear of turning someone off. He would also pay for everything, even his
friends lunch, which they expected paid every time. I marked him very low, but I believe this has
been an area where he is improving as far as self respect and assertiveness. Again Richard's
insecurities or doubting himself really came out during the Self Data Report, when he took the Ten–
Item Personality Inventory, TIPI (Gosling, Rentfrow, &Swann, 2003). I didn't tell him any
information about the test except how to take it. When he was done I started looking over the
results, and of course i started to disagree with him, which is very much apart of my personality.

Usage Of Different Recording Methods Essay
Usage of different recording methods to observe children's learning and development
Observing children in their natural environments (home, classroom, and outdoors) and recording
their observations are considered important strategies that teachers need to do in order to follow up
children 's learning progress and development at the Foundation Stage (Forman, and Hall, 2005).
The observation, which is defined as "the process of watching a child at work or play without
interfering in the activity", and recording, "the process of documenting the observed activity or
behaviour" were found useful to obtain solid information about Early Years children which can be
shared with parents and other members of the teaching team to enable them to design specific
learning plans and outcomes that fulfil the needs of each child (Laffranchinid, 2015). Recording and
organising the observations of children leads to purposeful planning and individualising of the
curriculum.
In general, the scope of observations is either to assess a child or group of children; or to evaluate
the effectiveness of provision. However, specific purposes for observation may vary for different
children (Nursery world, 2006). Observation of a child at the foundation stage may involve child's
developmental level, personality and temperament characteristics, gender–based behaviour, learning
style, interests, strengths and needs, self–concept and confidence. Therefore, several methods of
recordings were proposed to

On Sunday, November 19, 2017, I visited First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City for their 11:00
a.m. worship service. The outside of the church is pretty. It looked like how you would expect a
relatively modern church to look like. It had a bell as well. The main doors of the church were open,
and there was a man standing there greeting people as they walked in. I assume this is to make the
church seem welcoming. Upon entering the church, I noticed people were standing around and
talking. Some people were going into what I assumed was the room where the actual service was
going to be taking place. There were more men at this door as well. They were passing out little
booklets for the service. I decided to also go into this room. It was quite large. The first thing I
noticed was two large circular stain–glass windows. They were very ... Show more content on

It was not crowded, and there was a lot of empty spaces in the pews. Most people came with family.
There were many husbands and wives and some had children with them as well. There was a good
deal of people who attended on their own as well. The ages of the attendees was majority older.
Most people were definitely over the age of 30, but there were also people there who seemed to be
younger than that as well. The races of the attendees was overwhelmingly white, but there were
some people of color in attendance as well. Most of the attendees seemed most likely to be upper
middle class because of the area surrounding the church and also from looking at the cars in the
parking lot. Peachtree City is a mainly wealthy area, so it makes sense that most of the attendees at a
church in the town also have a good bit of money. The congregants were mainly dressed in nice
clothing. Women wore dresses, skirts, or nice pants, and men wore suits or a button–down shirt with
nice pants. The children were also dressed nicely for the most part, but some were more casual and

1) Determine whether the evaluated group is a population or a sample a) Based on a randomly

this a population or a sample; explain your answer. Raw data is collected from a subset of patient
with high cholesterol to determine numbers describing characteristics of the subset (Bennett,

Child and parent bond is a very important. A parent will always be part of their child or children
lives. When time goes by as children get older and move on with their own lives, parents become
less involved. When other parents have to be involved with their children lives more than usual
because the child needs more attention and more support. How do parents do it and what does the
child gain through the whole process of the parent being involved. Also, how does the child build a
comfortable relationship with the parents, or with only one parent? Does the bond with the parent

A convenience sample is made up of people who are easy to reach.
The main types of probability sampling methods are simple random sampling, stratified sampling,
cluster sampling, multistage sampling, and systematic random sampling. The key benefit of
probability sampling methods is that they guarantee that the sample chosen is representative of the
population. This ensures Simple random sampling. Simple random sampling refers to any sampling
method that has the following properties.
The population consists of N objects.
The sample consists of n objects.
If all possible samples of n objects are equally likely to occur, the sampling method is called simple
random sampling.
Stratified sampling. With stratified sampling, the population is divided into groups, based on some
characteristic. Then, within each group, a probability sample (often a simple random sample) is
selected. Cluster sampling. With cluster sampling, every member of the population is assigned to
one, and only one, group. Each group is called a cluster. A sample of clusters is chosen, using a
probability method (often simple random sampling). Only individuals within sampled clusters are
surveyed. Multistage sampling. With multistage sampling, we select a sample by using
combinations of different sampling methods. Systematic random sampling. With systematic random
sampling, we create a list of every member of the population. From the list, we randomly select the
first sample element from the

Sample Naturalistic Observation Papers
On Friday, February 10th, 2017 I did a naturalistic observation with the intent to observe gender
dynamics unfold in a specific setting. I attended a party on Friday night and observed for
approximately 2 hours. The setting was a lingerie party at Gaia's Cradle.
Gaia's Cradle is a living learning community at Northland, located next to the CSE building, in a
historical two–story home with six students residing. It is a learning community dedicated to gender,
women's, and sexuality studies. Gaia's regularly holds educational events, and always offers free
condoms and dental dams for anyone who needs/wants. As a setting, Gaia's is an extremely open,
accepting, and diverse place. For the party, he house was decorated with art made from a previous
event this week, photos of people with their bodies painted, and various lingerie (bras, stockings)
hanging from the ceiling. The lights were off, but there was mood lighting, fairy lights and black
lights. Dance music was playing loudly from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men at the party only drank beer, while playing beer pong. The beer was in bottles, cans, or in
the red solo cups from the game. The women at the party either took shots together, or brought their
own wine or mixed drinks in water bottles. I believe many women brought their own drinks for
safety reasons. College, especially college parties, can be a very dangerous place for women. Rates
of sexual assault are extremely high on college campuses. These women likely mixed and brought
their own drinks so they would know they aren't getting drugged. The men weren't worried about
being drugged by drinking open solo cups of beer that were setting out in public. This is an example
of male privilege. The men at the party didn't need to worry about being drugged and possibly
assaulted because the overwhelming majority of assaults are committed by men and the victims are

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Observation Methods
The observation method is the most commonly used method especially in studies relating to
behavioral sciences. Under the observation method, the information is sought by way of
investigator's own direct observation without asking from the respondent. The main advantage of
this method is that subjective bias is eliminated, if observation is done accurately. Secondly, the
information obtained under this method relates to what is currently happening; it is not complicated
by either the past behavior or future intentions or attitudes. Thirdly, this method is independent of
respondents' willingness to respond and as such is relatively less demanding of active cooperation
on the part of respondents as happens to be the case in the interview or the ... Show more content on

The results are then to be interpreted for drawing the inference from the experiment. Another
important thing in the observation is that this is a critical role player in any experiment or research.
The surveys in the research need to be observed minutely and they are to be interpreted by statistical
or theoretical means.
Observation thus is a vital role player in any research as these parts make or procure the data
available from different surveys like questionnaires or interviews to make the data converted to
information. This information is the player for justifying a hypothesis or making the research
informative and result oriented. Not only that, the observation also is concerned about the historical
part of the research or research field or topic. The topic or field on which the research is based is to
be justified by the previous researcher's view and view point and that is best done by the observation
part. Thus observation starts from the collection of data and interpreting them on the basis of the
historical research on the topic and also on the analysis of the participants and the participant's
research elements on the topic at earlier

We will choose to do an online and mobile survey, these two types have a very small cost. The cost
of getting a response is far less than the cost of administering a paper survey or phone survey, and
the number of potential responses can be in the thousands, which would be most ideal. Surveys are
very useful in describing the characteristics of a large population. A survey provides a broad
capability, which ensures a more accurate sample to gather targeted results in which to draw
conclusions and make important decisions about our NHL franchise. The anonymity of surveys
allows respondents to answer with more candid and valid answers. To get the most accurate data, we
need respondents to be as open and honest as possible with their answers, especially if it is clearly
stated that survey answers will remain completely confidential.
Secondly we want to do an observational study of the city. We will look into five ways to conduct an

Study Population
The study population for this research is patients for EMS hospitals for observation that provide
different shift patterns. This group will mainly include emergency room physicians, and emergency
patients. Any doctor who is a medical director for an EMS service will be excluded from the survey
to disregard any potential bias(Bowen, 2009).
The importance of identifying the population is to observe the patients in the different EMS
hospitals for observation that provide different problems of patients. The purpose of identifying the
population is to observe that EMS professionals are required to have a good kind of leadership to
take better and effective control of financial matters of EMS organization so that EMS organization
could be able to achieve the mission of handling emergency care(Sandelowski, 1995).
There are different methods involved for identifying the proper population. The best way is to
examine research question and applied on specific population. As in the case of the "EMS
professionals are required to have a good kind of leadership to take better and effective control of
financial matters of EMS organization so that EMS organization could be able to achieve the
mission of handling emergency care", the population involves the observation of the EMS specialist
in the hospitals. The purpose is to examine their leadership to get better and effective control of
financial matters.

Humans are social and diversely interactive beings. As a result, there is the frequent practice of
touching during conversation. This touching may be the conscious decision of individuals, as well as
simply a spontaneous form of expression or response. An operational definition of touching would
involve the initiation of physical contact between two individuals; for example, shaking hands
(Fowler and Fowler, 1969). A conversation involves communication between two individuals by
word of mouth (Fowler and Fowler, 1969). Touching as a complement of conversation is very

Apparatus/Instruments A three section Record Sheet (see Appendix) was designed for the purpose of
the study. The sheet had spaces to record the number of hand and body touches of the three types of
dyads (F–F, M–M, and M–F) as well as some demographics – the location, date and time the
observation was made. Also a timing device (e.g. watch or stopwatch) was used for the purpose of
the one minute period of observation. These devices however were selected based on what was
available to individual researcher.
Procedure
Each student of the PS 11A class was given a Record Sheet (see Appendix) for the purpose of
recording their observations. Using a haphazard sampling approach, the students unobtrusively
observed the three sets of dyads (F–F, M–M and M–F) for one minute, while they were in
conversation on the university campus. The number of hands and body touches were recorded for
each set of dyads during the minute. Examples of hand touches include hand to hand, hand to face,
hand to leg, hand to shoulder. Examples of body touches include body to body, kissing and
hugging.) For the purpose of establishing inter–rater reliability, only new touches that took place in
the minute were recorded. Accordingly, if the dyads were touching before the minute of observation
started, this was not counted or recorded. Also, students, during tutorial sessions were guided as to
how to count record touches. This was done through role play exercises where the students

The Pros and Cons of Social Surveys in Sociological...
The Advantages and Limitations of Social Surveys in Sociological Research
To survey something, is to carry out a systematic overview so that a researcher can produce a
comprehensive general report on it. Survey method is often used by positivist sociologists seeking to
test their hypotheses, and to investigate causes and examine variables. As with every other
sociological research, survey has its own advantages and limitations.
Positivist research, which is in the scientific tradition, begins with a hypothesis that can be either
confirmed or rejected according to the data collected. One of the significant advantages of survey
method is that, it can be used to collect data that is a representative ... Show more content on

Also, since subjective opinions might change from time to time, they are unreliable whereas
objective facts can be repeated. This means that to check survey data a researcher can repeat or
replicate the survey under the same conditions and guidelines and it will give the same result,
therefore it is highly reliable.
Another advantage of surveys is that they act as measurement tools. For example Booth and
Rowntree were revolutionary social scientists who used the survey method to measure the extent of
poverty at the end of the 19th century. In more recent cases, Townsend and Mack and Lansley
measured the extent of poverty in modern Britain using the survey method. The thing about surveys
is that they act as measurement tools in the sense that they (normally) present data in statistical
form. Since numbers are more understandable and at times more believable than words, it is no
wonder that surveys help people to see and understand facts – such as the increase or decrease in
poverty in a country – better than, for example, lengthy wordy conclusions from observations.
In spite of these advantages, there are limitations to this. Although survey "can be used to collect
data that is a representative of a larger population", but in reality the representative samples are very
difficult to obtain. A researcher might not always have access the

Limitations Of Reducing Crime In A School Environment
Limitations of reducing crime in a school environment.
There are always limitations to deter actions at school because the environment is meant to be a
safe–haven for children and teens to go in and get a proper education. So, stepping up security in
schools is not always possible because parents would not always support the advancement of
security, due to risks with safety and the atmosphere where they would not want their children in.
The focus of my qualitative research is to find if there is a correlation between the level of education
that a person has and the amount of crime they commit/ will commit based on their educational
level. The objectives during the study will be to find certain patterns that may underline why or why
not crime rates differ based on the level of education that a person has. One question and objective
of the study is to find out whether extracurricular activities advocate students to avoid committing
crimes because they were a part of a different society outside of the classroom and that would
hypothetically reduce crime because they value their person more.
Limitations of identifying a correct correspondence of a certain variable to the others.
Limitations of being able to identify school conditions.

The research design selected for this experiment is participant observation. Where we would

we understand a subject cannot be constantly followed due to restrictions, so we intend on placing
restrictions to allow more concurrent observations of the ethnographic study. The limitations will be
that an observer may only observe a participant on their way to school, on their way back, and
during school in order to provide a concurrent data set for every subject that is studied, and with the

habit and social acceptance. If I were C. Wright Mills my analysis would differ in the observation by
not focusing on a single person's diet habits but on the public as a whole and how the food market
focuses on creating these processed foods and distributes these foods filled with hormones and
GMOs into the public causing this obesity problem.
The reason why I would explain the obesity by focusing on the person's diet as it relates to the
amount of processed foods which consist of hormones and GMOs that the people consume every
day out of habit is because I believe in self–awareness. There is a plethora amount of sources
available to the public to gain knowledge about processed foods and ways of changing your diet.

foods and distributes these foods filled with hormones and GMOs into the public causing this
obesity problem. Seeing that there is a whole community that is overweight in the eyes of C. Wright
Mills I would have to observe the relationship between an individual and the wider society, meaning
the food accessibility and distribution plays a huge role in the community's overweight issue. What
type of restaurants are being placed in the community, the type of school lunches being served in
school and whether the cost of healthy non processed foods are affordable for those in the
community all play apart in why most of the people in town are

How Light Intensity Influences Duckweed Growth

  • 1. Duckweed Experiment What is duckweed? The was the first question that went through my mind when this lab was assigned. This resulted in pre–lab research. The first thing I learned was that duckweed, is a tiny aquatic flowering plant that floats in large quantities on still water, often forming an apparently continuous green layer on the surface. When my group was tasked with choosing our manipulative factor we decided on temperature manipulation. Based on the basic information we all had on duckweed due to our pre–lab questions, my group knew that duckweed is capable of growing in very harsh conditions in regards to pH, temperature, and light. Knowing this came to our advantage when we developed our hypothesis. We hypothesized that while under the different temperature conditions of an incubator, a fridge, and room temperature, the sample of frongs under grown under the incubator would remain healthy throughout the process while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Were there any sources of error that could have contributed to false data in our experiment? The fast decline of the room temperature, was a red flag. Why would a sample that appeared to be healthy and thriving suddenly die within the span of 7 days? The possible sources of error I can predict regarding that part of the experiment would be the fluctuations in light based on its location in the room and amount of water that was filled on day 12 as possibly someone in the group forgot to refill the sample after noticing evaporation. The fluctuating temperature changes inside the room as well as the weather conditions and temperature conditions outside is also a possible source of error regarding the sample. I cannot identify any sources of error in regards to the fridge and incubator samples as their results could be backed up by our pre–lab research on duckweed growth in hot and cold ... The participant observation is an observation of people being studied. This method is not often successful, sociologists are needed to participate in the participant's daily life that is being observed. The people that will help with this method will be people in their social group ( family, friends, professors, coworkers etc.) This method is needed for the sociologists be objective observers and be the actual participants in the social of their study. The observers record their observations in notes, which will be useful for examination of the study. In the visual sociology, the techniques that are being used here are photography and videotape. • 5. ELL Student Observation Sample Over the summer, I was able to observe an ELL students through the children's Sunday school at my church. I work Sunday school about once a month and I have had the pleasure of working with James, who was born in Mexico and moved to Florida when he was 6 months old. He is 8 years old now and has come so far since he moved here. The church I go to is also a school so James was a student there as well. When I spoke to James he did not seem any different from the other students. Since he has practically lived in Florida his whole life, he understood and spoke English pretty well. His parents only spoke Spanish though, so he still spoke Spanish with them. James is such a pleasure to have around, he has the sweetest heart and gives to his friends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He understood the meaning of the words he was speaking. My favorite time with him was when we were reading a Bible story about God's love and he turned to me and said "I am so happy God loves me because I love him too!" Even though love is also a feeling, he was able to connect it to his own life and give it meaning. Syntax on the other hand was a little more challenging for him because he could not form good complete sentences. There would usually be a small error when he would talk, like forgetting words like it and the. I tried helping him with this by correcting him and every time I did he would say "Oh yeah, I forgot" and he would continue with his story. James was a talker and if you gave him a subject to talk about he would do anything to keep talking, even make up everything. He had great discourse because he was really able to talk about something forever. Now, what he is saying may not be true but he will try to tell you everything he knows about the subject. He was also very good at writing stories. He told me that when he goes home, he writes stories on his Mom's Ipad. Since he was great at telling stories he was pretty good at pragmatics. He could have a normal back and forth conversation. James would always answer any questions you may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Community Observation Paper Sample When I first arrived to volunteer at the facility of Crestview, I did not imagine to acquire all the advice given to me by the elders that reside there. Our goal with this project was to go every monday morning and paint the residents nails. Also we got to visit with them and learn from their experiences. It wasn't just about serving, but it was about gaining the knowledge we ourselves did not know. Every now and then my group and I would go around delivering items to the patients that are not as active. It was just exciting to see how some patients reacted to us being there, they really enjoyed our company. Later I joined the program of WYSE, which stands for Wisdom for Youth from Senior Expertise. Personally I hope at that age that I still have laugher and a good memory. Honestly I love these experiences because you learn that not everyone has a good life, but they get through it. In the end as long as you commit yourself to something it can be possible. Before even attending these meetups I did not care about anything other than my age group. METHODS OF OBSERVATION Narrative/free description/written record or running record A running record is a very detailed description of the behaviour of a child over a short period of time, often less than five minutes. The observer watches a child or group of children and note down everything he sees, which gives the portrait of the child and his activity during this particular period of time. I deduce that this was due to the fact that maybe people were not on campus yet as they had later classes, or most were in class already. Moreover, I noticed that people were mostly drinking water during my observation period on Wednesday, whereas the overall drink of choice on Friday was coffee. I presume this shift in drink choice was due to the change in time; people enjoy drinking coffee in the mornings and/or it helps people reduce the groggy, tired feeling of waking up. The noise level was the most drastic change. The HUB and its surroundings were boisterous and lively during Wednesday at noon whereas the HUB fell a bit silent during Friday at 10 am. I consider this change drastic as the decrease in noise level was outstandingly clear almost immediately. I assume this was due to the fact that most people were still waking up and had not yet summoned all energy. With these observations, I not only improved my observational skills, however, I also realized how fortunate I am to attend a school that celebrates and encourages diversity among ... I am happy to say that it wasn't as scary as I thought. I was surprised how much I learned about the student by simply reviewing their list of words. It was pretty obvious when they were hitting the frustration level. September 21, 2017 (8:30–12:30) My classroom experience included: observing the classroom teacher leading group discussion (reviewing sight words, decoding words, and reading the weekly story), assisting students with reading worksheets (practice writing their letters and identifying beginning sounds of words), and reviewing the weekly story with each student. This particular teacher strictly uses a basal reader (Reading Streets) so I was very interested to observe her teaching using these particular materials. I could also use focus groups in the NHS to find out information about ways to improve the efficiency, equity, effectiveness and quality of health care services they provide. After carrying out the focus group, the NHS is left with a lot of qualitative data which is good as it is full of details and information on ways to improve the educational leaflets however the data has to be compared and recorded based on the views and opinions of people that represent their target population which is not easy to do. In order to make comparisons, the NHS needs large samples of information because they want good qualitative answers to make comparisons and also to evaluate the service they provide, however a focus group is likely to present a small sample of information for the NHS but if the focus group is representative it will generate good accurate results. However the NHS may need a large sample so using a focus group may not be suitable. I looked at the frequency in which they hugged or performed a different action (e.g. waving, speech, other etc.). Ultimately this information was used to find whether males or females hug when greeting more often than the other gender. The variable of interest in this experiment are gender and the action upon greeting.Gender is conceptually defined as the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones). The action upon greeting is conceptually defined as what both males and females do (e.g. hug or wave, etc.) when meeting with someone of familiarity. My hypothesis for this observation was that upon greeting someone girls will hug more often than guys. In this naturalistic observation in order to remain out of the environment and keep away from intervening I recorder data a distance away from the main trafficked area of greeting. This was so my actions or presence would not prohibit the sample population from proceeding with their natural behavior. My sampling location was only at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. The primary role of statistics is to to provide decision makers with methods for obtaining and analyzing information to help make these decisions. Statistics is used to answer long–range planning questions, such as when and where to locate facilities to handle future sales. 2 Definition s Statistics is defined as the science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing and interpreting numerical data for the purpose of assisting in making a more effective decision. 3 Applications in Management s Accounting Public accounting firms use ... The purpose of this lab is to help us to have a closer look at an ecosystem and how things function in it. Besides, it provides us a chance to observe organisms and work with the microscope. Previously in class, we all read the book "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer. • 45. Usage Of Different Recording Methods Essay Usage of different recording methods to observe children's learning and development Observing children in their natural environments (home, classroom, and outdoors) and recording their observations are considered important strategies that teachers need to do in order to follow up children 's learning progress and development at the Foundation Stage (Forman, and Hall, 2005). The observation, which is defined as "the process of watching a child at work or play without interfering in the activity", and recording, "the process of documenting the observed activity or behaviour" were found useful to obtain solid information about Early Years children which can be shared with parents and other members of the teaching team to enable them to design specific learning plans and outcomes that fulfil the needs of each child (Laffranchinid, 2015). Recording and organising the observations of children leads to purposeful planning and individualising of the curriculum. In general, the scope of observations is either to assess a child or group of children; or to evaluate the effectiveness of provision. However, specific purposes for observation may vary for different children (Nursery world, 2006). Observation of a child at the foundation stage may involve child's developmental level, personality and temperament characteristics, gender–based behaviour, learning style, interests, strengths and needs, self–concept and confidence. Therefore, several methods of recordings were proposed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under the observation method, the information is sought by way of investigator's own direct observation without asking from the respondent. The main advantage of this method is that subjective bias is eliminated, if observation is done accurately. Secondly, the information obtained under this method relates to what is currently happening; it is not complicated by either the past behavior or future intentions or attitudes. Thirdly, this method is independent of respondents' willingness to respond and as such is relatively less demanding of active cooperation on the part of respondents as happens to be the case in the interview or the ... Observation thus is a vital role player in any research as these parts make or procure the data available from different surveys like questionnaires or interviews to make the data converted to information. This information is the player for justifying a hypothesis or making the research informative and result oriented. Not only that, the observation also is concerned about the historical part of the research or research field or topic. The topic or field on which the research is based is to be justified by the previous researcher's view and view point and that is best done by the observation part. Thus observation starts from the collection of data and interpreting them on the basis of the historical research on the topic and also on the analysis of the participants and the participant's research elements on the topic at earlier ... We will choose to do an online and mobile survey, these two types have a very small cost. The cost of getting a response is far less than the cost of administering a paper survey or phone survey, and the number of potential responses can be in the thousands, which would be most ideal. Surveys are very useful in describing the characteristics of a large population. A survey provides a broad capability, which ensures a more accurate sample to gather targeted results in which to draw conclusions and make important decisions about our NHL franchise. The anonymity of surveys allows respondents to answer with more candid and valid answers. To get the most accurate data, we need respondents to be as open and honest as possible with their answers, especially if it is clearly stated that survey answers will remain completely confidential. Secondly we want to do an observational study of the city. We will look into five ways to conduct an observational study; natural vs. contrived settings, disguised vs. non–disguised observation, human vs. mechanical observation, direct vs. indirect observation, and structured vs. non–structured (Parasuraman, 1991). We believe each of these five methods is essential to truly understand our fans and their behaviour. When looking into doing a natural type of observational research we are wanting to understand our fan in its natural habitat, or in the real life environment. This is ... Study Population The study population for this research is patients for EMS hospitals for observation that provide different shift patterns. This group will mainly include emergency room physicians, and emergency patients. Any doctor who is a medical director for an EMS service will be excluded from the survey to disregard any potential bias(Bowen, 2009). The importance of identifying the population is to observe the patients in the different EMS hospitals for observation that provide different problems of patients. The purpose of identifying the population is to observe that EMS professionals are required to have a good kind of leadership to take better and effective control of financial matters of EMS organization so that EMS organization could be able to achieve the mission of handling emergency care(Sandelowski, 1995). Touching Behaviour in Conversational Dyads Running head: TOUCHING BEHAVIOUR CONVERSATION Touching Behaviour in Conversational Dyads Mark–Odean Grant University of the West Indies, Mona December 8, 2006 Humans are social and diversely interactive beings. As a result, there is the frequent practice of touching during conversation. This touching may be the conscious decision of individuals, as well as simply a spontaneous form of expression or response. An operational definition of touching would involve the initiation of physical contact between two individuals; for example, shaking hands (Fowler and Fowler, 1969). A conversation involves communication between two individuals by word of mouth (Fowler and Fowler, 1969). Touching as a complement of conversation is very common, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apparatus/Instruments A three section Record Sheet (see Appendix) was designed for the purpose of the study. The sheet had spaces to record the number of hand and body touches of the three types of dyads (F–F, M–M, and M–F) as well as some demographics – the location, date and time the observation was made. Also a timing device (e.g. watch or stopwatch) was used for the purpose of the one minute period of observation. These devices however were selected based on what was available to individual researcher. Procedure Each student of the PS 11A class was given a Record Sheet (see Appendix) for the purpose of recording their observations. Using a haphazard sampling approach, the students unobtrusively observed the three sets of dyads (F–F, M–M and M–F) for one minute, while they were in conversation on the university campus. The number of hands and body touches were recorded for each set of dyads during the minute. Examples of hand touches include hand to hand, hand to face, hand to leg, hand to shoulder. Examples of body touches include body to body, kissing and hugging.) For the purpose of establishing inter–rater reliability, only new touches that took place in the minute were recorded. Accordingly, if the dyads were touching before the minute of observation started, this was not counted or recorded. Also, students, during tutorial sessions were guided as to how to count record touches. This was done through role play exercises where the students (observers) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Excessive Use Of Force In Corrections Sampling The population for the study of excessive use of force will be of correctional officers with the most use of force as well as correctional officers that don't have many uses of force. The proposed study would be of use of force reports as well as any other maintained records of correctional officers within the department. The use of forces reports to include records would be placed in categories to identify the officers that used excessive force then from officers that did not use excessive force in situations. These categories would require the sampling strategy method because the probability sampling strategy is the method that would identify which officers that have the most documented use of force compared to the officers that have the least documented use of force ("Use of force," 2017). • 75. The Pros and Cons of Social Surveys in Sociological... The Advantages and Limitations of Social Surveys in Sociological Research To survey something, is to carry out a systematic overview so that a researcher can produce a comprehensive general report on it. Survey method is often used by positivist sociologists seeking to test their hypotheses, and to investigate causes and examine variables. As with every other sociological research, survey has its own advantages and limitations. Positivist research, which is in the scientific tradition, begins with a hypothesis that can be either confirmed or rejected according to the data collected. One of the significant advantages of survey method is that, it can be used to collect data that is a representative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, since subjective opinions might change from time to time, they are unreliable whereas objective facts can be repeated. This means that to check survey data a researcher can repeat or replicate the survey under the same conditions and guidelines and it will give the same result, therefore it is highly reliable. Another advantage of surveys is that they act as measurement tools. For example Booth and Rowntree were revolutionary social scientists who used the survey method to measure the extent of poverty at the end of the 19th century. In more recent cases, Townsend and Mack and Lansley measured the extent of poverty in modern Britain using the survey method. The thing about surveys is that they act as measurement tools in the sense that they (normally) present data in statistical form. Since numbers are more understandable and at times more believable than words, it is no wonder that surveys help people to see and understand facts – such as the increase or decrease in poverty in a country – better than, for example, lengthy wordy conclusions from observations. In spite of these advantages, there are limitations to this. Although survey "can be used to collect data that is a representative of a larger population", but in reality the representative samples are very difficult to obtain. • 77. Limitations Of Reducing Crime In A School Environment Limitations of reducing crime in a school environment. There are always limitations to deter actions at school because the environment is meant to be a safe–haven for children and teens to go in and get a proper education. So, stepping up security in schools is not always possible because parents would not always support the advancement of security, due to risks with safety and the atmosphere where they would not want their children in. The focus of my qualitative research is to find if there is a correlation between the level of education that a person has and the amount of crime they commit/ will commit based on their educational level. The objectives during the study will be to find certain patterns that may underline why or why not crime rates differ based on the level of education that a person has. One question and objective of the study is to find out whether extracurricular activities advocate students to avoid committing crimes because they were a part of a different society outside of the classroom and that would hypothetically reduce crime because they value their person more. Limitations of identifying a correct correspondence of a certain variable to the others. Limitations of being able to identify school conditions. Collecting information on extracurricular activities and the effects it has on students. Research Design The research design selected for this experiment is participant observation. Where we would develop a sustained relationship with people and observe them as they go about their days during school and outside of school to fully gain the understanding of the variables that we aim to identify throughout the experiment, and see if they influence the subject participants. With the exception that we understand a subject cannot be constantly followed due to restrictions, so we intend on placing restrictions to allow more concurrent observations of the ethnographic study. The limitations will be that an observer may only observe a participant on their way to school, on their way back, and during school in order to provide a concurrent data set for every subject that is studied, and with the understanding that a large population in Chicago uses public transportation, observing a ... Sample Observation Paper If I am walking around my hometown and notice that half or more people are overweight, the way that I would explain this observation is by focusing on the person's diet as it relates to the amount of processed foods which consist of hormones and GMOs that the people consume every day out of habit and social acceptance. If I were C. Wright Mills my analysis would differ in the observation by not focusing on a single person's diet habits but on the public as a whole and how the food market focuses on creating these processed foods and distributes these foods filled with hormones and GMOs into the public causing this obesity problem. The reason why I would explain the obesity by focusing on the person's diet as it relates to the amount of processed foods which consist of hormones and GMOs that the people consume every day out of habit is because I believe in self–awareness. There is a plethora amount of sources available to the public to gain knowledge about processed foods and ways of changing your diet.
