Burundi Genocide
A person who is outside of their national country with the fear of being persecuted based on a
specific reason given by their country is referred to as a refugee. Persecution can occur if their
country does not agree on their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or the membership of a
certain social group. An internally displaced person (IDP) is a person who has not crossed an
international border in order for them to find refuge. Both groups of people are similar because in
both cases there are people who are running away from their own country or land. They could both
be running from an issue, law, or belief that they may not agree with and can be victimized for such
beliefs. The difference between a refugee and an internally displaced ... Show more content on

Not only has the IRC stepped in to help these refugees but also UNHCR has partnered with the
governments of Tanzania to help Burundi. From 1993 to 2000, Tanzania has been host to almost 1.5
million refugees (Thomas 2009). The fact that there are so many refugees in Tanzania can have
many economical effects. The goods and infrastructure will have to be shared between the citizens
and the refugees that flee there. Although Tanzania camps are already getting full with so many
refugees, the IRC are helping by identifying unaccompanied children and providing them with care
and counseling to those who have survived sexual violence (Tanzania 2015). There are also allowing

Essay On Forced German Migration
My Research topic was the forced migration of Germany's post World War II. I looked at many
different secondary sourced with a wide range of views on why this event happened. What
information cherished the most was the Primary sources I referenced which were mostly testimonies
from Germans who survived this event. The questions I set out to answer consisted of: Should this
event be considered A war crime? Should the Germans receive any sympathy from the world
community? Does the fact a portion of the German community did not support the Reich change
anything? The First question was surprisingly easy to answer. There is already a clear answer out
there, but I wanted to take my own path and decide for myself if the general decision agrees ... Show

I'm extremely interested in world War 2, and have been since a relatively early age. There are
multiple example of migration surrounding World War II, like the migration of the Jews pre and post
World War II, and migrations in the United states due to people working in the War industry. I
wanted to research migration as a whole around World War II, but decided it was to broad of a topic
to create a good paper. I decided to narrow it down to a specific migration. I dabbled with multiple
examples. I finally decided on forced German Migration after I saw examples of this in A German
Movie called Downfall that I was watching. I thought this would be a unique and interesting topic to
research. I Decided to narrow my topic even further so I could initiate into some very detailed
research on forced migration from Eastern Germany. Continuously throughout this paper I haven't
lost interest. I enjoy how my topic also directly relates to MC 112, as well as my other James
Madison class. This is due to how citizenship was interpreted during the expulsion. If I could redo
my paper I would have definitely have added more about citizenship and how it relates to the Forced
German expulsion after World War II. I have gained a lot of knowledge and confidence from writing
this paper. If I can write this long and challenging paper I can write almost anything. I'm also very
proud of what I wrote I spent countless hours

The Effects Of Forced Migration On The United Nations
In Recent times, migration has become common, and the reason for migration is often access to
better education and the cleaner environment. However, some migration is not by choice. Forced
migration occurs in a less stable region due to the war or environment problem. The term forced
migration refers to those who are compelled to leave their own town or country. This essay will
explain the impacts of forced migration, particularly refugees. The definition of refugee, which is
given by the united nations (as cited in Forced Migration,2011), is someone who has been forced to
leave their country in order to escape war, conflict, or natural disaster. Focus on this definition, it
means the war and the natural disaster are problems which can make refugees. It will focus on adult
mental health, human rights and child issues.
Initially, one of the issues faced by refugees is mental health. There is a report written by Fazel,
Reed, Brick and Stein, which is published online (2011). They mentioned that the refugee who is
separated from the families are tolerated the damage both from the heart and physical part. Focusing
on this aspect, there are some graphs given in the report, which are about the basic information of
refugee and the mental health condition of them. Basic on the table, it can be found that the refugee
children cannot accommodate the social environment in the new country easily. Mental illnesses
such as depression and post–traumatic stress disorder have always

Forced Migration Of Human Population
Forced migration of human population around the world from one country to a relatively "safer
country" is not a new phenomenon. At the end of 2014 the number of displaced population around
the world was estimated to be over 50 million (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR) 2014).
The grounds for migration are varied and sometimes complex. Those who flee from their mother–
land to avoid a whole gamut of persecutions even death require urgent resettlements. The host
country immigration system generally recognises them as genuine refugees. However, the
unauthorised arrivals who were allured by a higher job opportunity, a higher living standard, and
accessible welfare benefits in Western countries are often returned to their ... Show more content on

In reality, there is a great deal of confusion in the public's view to how asylum seekers and refugees
differ. Based on the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, the former means those who seek international
protection but their refugee status have not been granted, whereas the latter means those who are
identified and recognised under the Convention to be refugees – who are people fled from their
original country to avoid persecutions. The arrival of asylum seekers has progressively become a
controversial issue as they are proven to suffer various unfair treatments by some host countries,
including Australia. (Burnside & Reynolds 2014; Gordon 2013; Pagliaro 2013).
It is argued that the arrival of asylum seekers in Australia generates significant public fear and
anxiety in terms of national security, unemployment rate, and cultural identity (Gilchrist 2013;
McAdam 2013). However, a clear understanding of what contributions asylum seekers could convey
economically, socially and politically in Australian community, may strengthen the authority and
public view to why they should be welcomed to Australia.
A significant number of people to seek protection as refugees are an inevitable challenge for any
host country governments' immigration system and border controls. The most problematic issue lies
upon how a nation should manage the balance between defending its national border and assisting
those in need. In the

Islamic Extremism And Sex Slaves
Islamic Extremism and Sex Slaves Throughout Islamic communities, we discovered, more than
often, that many extreme acts transpire. Radicalized establishments allocate similar thoughts but
engage in a variety of acts. Islamic extremists attain ideology and beliefs that differs and disregards
collective moral standards. Extremists habitually establish acts accordingly, in order to function in
their prospective environments. Individuals whom withhold beliefs regarding both religion, and
politics, participate in extreme acts. However, sex slavery is an act that is consistently practiced. It is
also motivated through one's social, and cultural environment. Internally, these destructive acts were

ISIS is an organization that consists of misleading and inaccurate understandings of Islams historical
civilization. "To the extent that what ISIS leaders are doing is repudiated by just about every
reputable Islamic organization and scholar and the vast majority of Muslims everywhere, it is
irresponsible to say what they are doing is very Islamic. All religions have individuals who do things
that others in the same religion find morally wrong or reprehensible or even heretical. ISIS is no

existence was when Mohammad lived. Sex slavery is a forced act of sexual exploitation.
Throughout history, Islamic communities condoned this form of slavery. As per sections of the
Qur'an, Muslim men are permitted to retain woman as sex slaves. "O Prophet! We have made lawful
to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those (slaves) whom thy right hand

Turbochargers: Internal Combustion Engine and Turbocharger
Society is driven by the thought of improving every existing invention to make it bigger, smaller,
more cost effective, or simply better. The internal combustion engine has been used in transportation
for everyone who lives in a civilized area; whether it is a motorcycle, car, bus, airplane, etc. The
most important advances in technology for these engines involve efficiency. Gas mileage,
performance, and displacement are key concerns for all engineers of internal combustion engines.
With the invention of the turbocharger all of these factors can be improved. The inventor,
progression, impact, and current adaptation of the turbocharger are very important in understanding
this engineering innovation. The entire world can thank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New ways of oil lubricating were added along with water–cooling. The sizes of turbochargers now
range from the diameter of a baseball to larger than a basketball. The turbocharger has made a
significant impact in all of our lives. The turbocharger enables millions of engines around the world
to make more power and give engines higher efficiency. Ships, planes, cars, trucks, etc. would all
have to have bigger engines that would use more fuel to accomplish what they do with a
turbocharger. The air pollution and gas shortage would be much worse if none of our engines were
turbocharged. Furthermore turbochargers are used in many sports. The two main sports that simply
rely on turbochargers are drifting and rally racing. These cars need to be light, so they cannot have
big displacement engines thus relating back to forced induction. Major companies such as Garrett,
HKS, Turbonetics, and Banks are always coming up with new ways to improve turbochargers.
These companies drive the industry in terms of turbochargers because of the constant improvement
of the already great invention. Although there are many factory vehicles that come with
turbochargers the aftermarket industry truly drives the need for improvement. Drifting alone has
become a billion dollar industry causing manufacturers to work harder than ever to make their
individual products stand out from the crowd. In the sport of drifting ninety percent of the cars in the

The Growing Problem of Environmental Displacement Essay
The number of environmentally displaced people is growing and it's important for individuals to be
informed of the topic and what all it entails. A study published by Economic & Political Weekly, in
2009, approximates 24 million displaced people due to climate change and environmental situations.
(Economic & Political Weekly, 2009) That number was estimated to grow to 50 million by 2010,
and exceeding 150 million by 2050. (Economic & Political Weekly, 2009) The world has to be
informed of what these numbers mean. Understanding what environmental displacement means is a
step toward that direction. Along with understanding what environmental displacement means, it's
also important to know the difference between environmental ... Show more content on

King defines slow onset, "resulting from the gradual deterioration of the environment," (2006, p
246) and acute onset, "resulting from sudden and immediate environmental damage." (2006, p 246)
The researcher continues to break these terms down even more. Slow onset movements can be
broken into two groups, one being a movement with the possibility to return, the other being a
movement with no possibility of return. King does the same with acute onset. King (2006) describes
the possibility of returning are displaced by certain situations that could be re–established, whereas
those who do not have the possibility are due to permanent situations. Through research, it's been
made clear how to differentiate environmental climate migrants. Overall, it's important to consider
migration due to environmental situations is not the same as a refugee. King says, "Environmentally
displaced persons are refugee–like, in that they are rendered particularly vulnerable by the
immediate and involuntary nature of their movement, but because they are not protected by the
current refugee regime, they are in particular need of international assistance." (King, 2006, p 551)
Terms best used to describe those displaced due to environmental issues are environmental migrants,
meaning they voluntarily migrated, or environmentally displaced persons, in cases where they are
forced to migrate. (King,

The Pros And Cons Of Environmentally Displaced People?
Now a days, the climate changes are getting even more threatening for humans and the whole Earth.
It has been estimated that more than 20 million human beings will be environmentally displaced
from their homelands in the near future especially after the event of rise in the sea level because of
global warming. All these factors will have an extremely adverse effect on the population of a lot of
countries especially those in Africa and Asia, and it will result to the appearance of a certain
category of people– environmentally displaced people– that's why all countries must stand together
and find a way to protect people who suffered and left their homelands due to the environmental
disasters, but to do that, all countries must first consider pros and cons of environmental
displacement. Environmentally displaced people (aka: climate refugees) are defined as people who
are impelled or induced to migrate because their livelihoods are rendered unsustainable by
proliferating natural disasters or the irreversible degradation of environmental resources resulting
from the slow–onset impacts of rising sea levels and desertification (which basically ... Show more

Leafblowers vs Snails
The majestic leaf blowers(superchargers), is a car add–on that makes your car faster. As well as the
snail(turbo). But both are different, way different. A supercharger is an air compressor that increases
the pressure or density of air supplied to an internal combustion engine. This gives each intake cycle
of the engine more oxygen, letting it burn more fuel and do more work. A turbocharger, or turbo, is a
turbine–driven forced induction device that increases an internal combustion engine 's efficiency and
power output by forcing extra air into the combustion chamber. This improvement over a naturally
aspirated engine 's power output is due to the fact that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Oil requirement: turbochargers get very hot and often tap into the engine's oil supply. This calls for
additional plumbing, and is more demanding on the engine oil. Superchargers typically do not
require engine oil lubrication." Most people use turbo's for drift cars or track cars. But mostly
drifting vehicles because the more power you got the easier it is to drift as the wheels can spin up
quicker and the less traction you got with the tarmac the easier.("Engineering Explained: The Pros
And Cons Of Turbochargers Vs Superchargers." )
Now the pros and cons of the majestic supercharger. Pro's : Increased horsepower: adding a
supercharger to any engine is a quick solution to boosting power. No lag: the supercharger biggest
advantage over a turbocharger is that it does not have any lag. Power delivery is immediate because
the supercharger is driven by the engine's crankshaft. Low RPM boost: good power at low RPM in
comparison with turbochargers. Price: cost effective way of increasing horsepower.(Engineering
Explained: The Pros And Cons Of Turbochargers Vs Superchargers. ) Now the con's Less efficient:
the biggest disadvantage of superchargers is that they suck engine power simply to produce engine
power. They're run off an engine belt connected to the crankshaft, so you're essentially powering an
air pump with another air pump. Because of this, superchargers are significantly less efficient than
turbochargers. Reliability: with all forced induction

The Causes Of Forced Migration In The Country Of Population
Forced migration is defined as, "a general term that refers to the movements of refugees and
internally displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well as
people displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or
development projects" (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, n.d.). Since the
1940, this issue has risen steady and affects over a million individuals globally. In 2015, nine out of
1000 people were evacuated by force (Bozorgmehr & Razum, 2017). Health problems can become
abundant among forced migrants due to the vast amount of people dwelling within a small camp.
Multiple diseases may begin to fester among the refuge location because many people may bring the
foreign illness to the location. This may lead to new illnesses in a place that has not experienced that
particular type of illness in that area. Because majority of forced migrants are in such crowded
quarters, diseases can proliferate quickly throughout the population as a result of poor hygiene and
sanitation. This leads to an increase in health care demand; however, due to the increased amount of
people in the vicinity these types of services may be limited or unavailable to the individuals. A
decrease or destruction of health care to forced migrates can eventually lead to and increase
mortality rate (Skolnik, 2016). Language and cultural barriers may impact health care attainment for
some individuals of forced

The Process Of Aging And Dying Today 's Current Society
Being Mortal Introduction The introduction provided a general synopsis of what would be discussed
in the book, the process of aging and dying in today's current society, and how that process
compares to other cultures and generations. The author, Atul Gawande, also recounted a few
memories of his experiences in college and as a new doctor, which created a foundation for which
his topic was both presented and elaborated on. Gawande suggests that doctors are fixated on
providing constant treatments and surgeries for the terminally ill, but that they never consider
acknowledging the inevitable fate of the patient and help them cope with their situation. As Atul
continued, he explained how, as a doctor, the greatest satisfaction received is ... Show more content

Before dying at the age of 110, Sitaram lived with the children he had raised. While the tradition in
India was to have family care for the elderly, Gawande stated that in the U.S., aging has gone from a
multi–generational responsibility and turned into a private and secluded affair. 2. Things Fall Apart
Continuing on, Gawande made the argument that until recent years, every day was a roll of the dice,
meaning that death was much more common and uncontrollable than it is now. Gawande likened the
aging and dying process to that of a trap door. Suddenly the good health that the person was
accustomed to fell underneath their feet, no longer supporting them. He then described how modern
medicine has impacted the process of dying and compared it to descending down a hilly road on a
mountain rather than a cliff with a steep, immediate drop. As he continued into the chapter,
Gawande discussed how the aging process seems to be based on normal wear and tear as a person
lives their life. He also referenced how even though the deterioration process can be slowed, the fact
is that the human body dramatically changes throughout a person 's life, especially when they reach
an older age. Gawande noted these physical changes, such as how the human brain shrinks due to a
loss of gray matter, and how the earliest portions of the brain that shrink are the frontal lobes, which
aid in memory, judgement, and planning. At this point Gawande introduced a

Personal Narrative: Moving To A New Society

Forced Migration And Refugee: Definition And Distinction
Literature Review and Theoretical Overview
Forced Migration and Refugee, Definition and Distinction
Recently, forced migration term has spread widely and it has become one of the most common used
terms, this is due to the unprecedented numbers of people who are being forced to leave their homes
every day, either internally or internationally while fleeing the continuing crises in many regions in
the world. These flowing waves of people have gotten the attention of the governments, researchers,
organizations, and publics because of the big, deep, and significant effects that these waves are
carrying on both hosts and migrants, as well as on sending and receiving countries. These
tremendous numbers of forced migrants include various groups and every group can be classified
under different category depending on the reasons, geographic borders of the movement, and legal
situation of the migrants in the host country, which also varies from country to another.
According to the IASFM's definition of forced migration as a general term that refers to the
movements of refugees and internally displaced people (those displaced by conflicts) as well as
people displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or

'Flags Of Our Fathers And' Visit To St. Elizabeth's
In times upon which a society is distant from its core values, when members are challenged by their
internal values and their loyalty to their nation; there lies a memory of what once was. It is often that
memory permits members any society that were wronged or denied their rights, that provides the
hope necessary to prevail through and act during difficult times. Patriotism is believing in one's
nation. The belief is developed from the greatness that was perceived by its citizens and that creates
those precious memories that are referred to in dark times to lead people to act when their own
nation may be against them. Anne Frank once wrote in her diary, "I think that it will all come right,
that this cruelty too will end and that peace and tranquility will return again"(Frank, 1942). Her
sanguine words reflect past memories of tranquillity in her nation and when the troubles she faced in
the time she wrote this were non existent. Anne Frank reflected what it is to be patriotic by

while it did bring some justice for the survivors and those people who were killed in the Holocaust,
it was not done in the truthful and just manner that many people would have hoped. The whole
purpose of the trial of Adolf Eichmann was to find out the truth of what really happened during the
Holocaust, in regards to who was responsible for different aspects of the Holocaust, and to bring
justice for those who lost their lives, and for those who survived but had to suffer through the

convert Jews and Muslims through kind words and religious teachings from the Bible. This idea,
nevertheless, evolved over the centuries and Christians began converting non–believers through
violence and compulsion. Also, even after individuals were converted, Christians did not fully trust
their motivations, and believed they would remiss into their old religions. While Marian miracles
did help alleviate these tensions, a number of vicious acts were committed against Jews and
Muslims during this time period. In this essay, I am going to examine the idea of conversion from
the Christian perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and Muslims to convert. I am
also going to compare the contradictory nature of converting through peaceful and violent means.
This comparison will showcase how the Roman Catholic Church 's stance on peaceful conversion
was overcome by local Christian communities. Conversion is the act of changing one 's religion to
another religion. During the twelfth to fifteenth century in Medieval Iberia, a number of Jews and
Muslims converted to Christianity. To Christians, "conversions represented the elimination of
dangerous enemies and the ongoing triumph of the 'new Israel. '" Christians viewed themselves as
the chosen people, as they believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save them, and formed a
new covenant, while the Jews spurned him and

Persuasive Essay On Sexual Slavery
There are approximately 20 to 30 million sexual slaves in the world today, of which 80% are
women, and half of that are children. That is a lot of people getting trapped into the sex trafficking
business that will most likely spend the rest of their lives trying to pay off their debt, however there
are some women who get their happy endings. There are a lot of intelligent, confident, courageous
women who are now doing what they can to fight against sexual slavery in hopes that if they will
make an impact and prevent the same thing they have been through to other young innocent girls.
There are many successful women who have escaped brothels from all over the world who are now
fighting back to stop sexual slavery. These are women who are reaching out to complete strangers
and telling their stories to warn them, taking their offenders to court, and volunteering at charities
and organizations that are trying to put a stop to sexual slavery.
The girls who are spreading the word to strangers and reaching out with their wisdom are truly
making a difference. They do whatever they can to warn the truth about the brothel, as said in the
book Sold, a novel by Patricia McCormick, "Some girls go door to door in the country's most
isolated villages to explain what really happens to girls who leave home with strangers promising
good jobs" (McCormick, authors note). There are many girls who leave home with high hopes and
absolutely no idea what they are getting themselves into. These

Under what conditions are refugees a security threat? For whom?
In their work, Refugees and Forced Displacement, International Security, and Human Vulnerability,
Edward Newman and Jan van Selm describe how mass and forced displacement of populations have
been used as a weapon during conflict: "refugee flows are demonstrably a source of [...international
conflict] through causing instability in neighbouring countries, triggering intervention, and
sometimes providing a basis for warrior communities within camps that can form the source for
insurgency, resistance, and terrorist movements" (p. 5). It is Newman and van Salem's mention of
warrior communities within refugee camps that elucidate the potential security threat refugees may
impose on states and/or individuals. This essay illustrates how the militarization of refugee camps
by "warrior refugees" who recruit within the refugee community and exploit humanitarian aid, pose
a significant security threat to the sending state, the humanitarian community, and refugees who are
susceptible to being used as military weapons during a conflict (ibid.). It also uses the Rwanda case
study to demonstrate how a receiving state that does not have the means and/or desire to police
military leaders within refugee facilitates the security threat as well.

Conflict Between The People, Requiring Body And The...
CHAPTER VII
POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS TO THE LAND ACQUISITION CONUNDRUM
The above study on land acquisition points to three broad areas of conflict between the people,
requiring body and the government. They are:
(1) Evaluation of the purpose and necessity of acquisition;
(2) Enumeration of the population that will be disadvantaged because of the acquisition; and
(3) Assessment of the quality of land, calculation of compensation payable thereof and the manner
in which people are to be compensated.
An alternative paradigm could involve division of the acquisition process into three mutually
exclusive but logically integrated stages.
(a) Pre–acquisition stage or the preparatory stage
(b) Acquisition stage or the executive stage, and
(c) Post–acquisition stage or ameliorative stage.
As discussed herein above, the three broad areas of conflict between the people, requiring body and
the Government are evaluation of the purpose and necessity of acquisition, enumeration of the
population and assessment of compensation payable these can be dealt with in the preparatory stage.
The legal process of acquisition and transfer of land can be accomplished in the executive stage,
while the socio–economic problems and psychological trauma of forced displacement or loss
livelihood can be dealt with in the ameliorative stage.
The advantages of dividing the process into three distinct stages are: firstly, it will allow for
effective transfer of work to specialists, now that it is

A Profound Southern American Catholic Novelist, By...
A profound Southern American Catholic novelist, Flannery O'Connor concealed her true spiritual
intentions into many of her grotesque stories. Many of her writings involve a tale of a displaced
person that is eventually lead to redemption and mercy from God. Through plenty of hardships and
mistakes, her protagonists endure a spiritual transformation that leads her characters into
enlightenment. O'Connor weaves blatant instances of sacramentality, mediation, communion, mercy,
and human dignity into the development of each of her stories. O'Conner revealed sacramentality in
thousands of examples throughout her literary marks of genius. In "Wise Blood," Hazel's car
exposed sacramentality as a symbol of himself. The car's beat–up, rugged state and unreliable
features mirrored Hazel's own broken–down spirituality. When the car broke down on the side of the
road, Hazel proclaimed, "This is a good car, Mister! This car can take me anywhere I wanna go!"
(film). He argued that the "well–built" car could not break down due to its prime initial quality. His
connection with the car resembled a part of himself. The car served as Hazel's longed–for home,
podium, and sanctuary; the vehicle even provided him a place to sleep. Also, he found a homebased
security atop of his car when he preached about the "Church Without Christ." Hazel even declared,
"Nobody with a good car needs to be justified" (film). He used his car to steer himself, literally,
away from the truth of God. Hazel tried to

Forced Migration Essay
Refugees are people who crossed borders, fleeing due to problems related to race religion and
nationality. While fleeing, refugees unknowingly carry many diseases due to lack of mental help and
attention. When coming to a new country, refugees have no self–esteem to get jobs due to the
language barrier. Refugees who flee their country and sacrifice everything are confident and strong
willed with all the obstacles that come through their journey to start a new life. The long–term
effects that a refugee experiences due to forced migration is Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),
anxiety, and depression. Forced migration has a negative mental and physical affect on refugees.

After migration when they reach a safe country they do not know how to react. Many refugees
suffer from depression and PTSD from witnessing the loss of their leaders or loved ones and even
from witnessing mass killings, causing them to be distant and not make any effort to get help. They
do not understand involvement in their community when they have reached a safe location. The
refugee groups stay together and do not against each other fearing one will or could be killed. At
refugee camps, many make the camp a big family from hearing and understanding other victims
stories, creating bonds. Previously, many researchers noticed large amounts of immigrants in
psychiatric hospitals, causing them to do the first study on refugees to be conducted in 1936.
Researchers have came up with the Five main phases a refugee experiences: Pre contact: Realizing
something is wrong in their country and conflict might occur. 2) Contact: The refugee realizing war,
or a change in their country leadership is happening. 3) Conflict: When solders or armed people are
romaine the country forcing people to leave their homes and lives behind. 4) Crises: the crises
happens when their starts to be physical torture and a mass migration of people fleeing their country
to migrate somewhere safe. During the crises their is multiple mass murders, torture and even rape.

Forced Migration Essay
In the per–modern era, human migration was a well–known occurrence that was caused by either
force or willingness of the people. When migration was constituted through force, it was understood
to be through political or economical duress. For instance, political measures unveiling large tax
reforms created unbearable cost of living standards for the poor to survive. Whereas, increased
economic labour created through force, was established for the rich to reap the benefits from
majority of the poor. In essence, this widened the gap of economic dualism by forcing majority of
the lower class people into living standards well below the poverty levels. Evidently, this would

Golden Age. "With Solomon...the surplus accumulated...rapidly dissipated in ambitious building."
(Asali p.53) through large fortifications and military armaments. At his old age, he placed a heavy
tax burden on his people, and in turn they became largely bitter towards him. After his death,
massive conflicts came before the people to eventually split Israel and Judah into separate
kingdoms. In 800 B.C.E., "two centuries later, the Assyrians conquered the north, and many of the
Jews of Israel were deported" (Ardito, Gambaro and Torrefranca p.42). Later, in 600 B.C.E., the
kingdom of Judah was overthrown by the Babylons. In turn, this lead to their captivity as slaves;
entering a new era of a nomadic culture spread across the western world. On the other hand, it was
this captivity which strengthened their religious identity, and evidently propagated the largest
monolithic deity known throughout the 21st century: Jesus Christ.

As Atul
continued, he explained how, as a doctor, the greatest satisfaction received ... Show more content on

Gawande also talked about how his father accepted and assimilated into virtually all of american
culture, although he could not come to terms with the way that the elderly were treated here. Atul's
father never seemed to understand why people in the U.S. Would leave their elderly to live alone or
in unfamiliar facilities. The reason this idea felt so foreign to him is due mostly to the fact that his
native culture treats the elderly in a much more hands–on and involved way. Gawande continued by
explaining how his grandfather lived and died– with his family. Before dying at the age of 110,
Sitaram lived with the children he had raised. While the tradition in India was to have family care
for the elderly, Gawande stated that in the U.S., aging has gone from a multi–generational
responsibility and turned into a private and secluded affair. 2. Things Fall Apart Continuing on,
Gawande made the argument that until recent years, every day was a roll of the dice, meaning that
death was much more common and uncontrollable than it is now. Gawande likened the aging and
dying process to that of a trap door. Suddenly the good health that the person was accustomed to fell
underneath their feet, no longer supporting them. He then described how modern medicine has
impacted the process of dying and compared it to descending down a hilly road on a mountain rather
than a cliff with a steep, immediate drop.

Internally Displaced Person
Preamble:
For decades, they were largely ignored and forgotten, but together they probably comprise the
world‟s largest group of vulnerable people. Currently, there are an estimated 30 million of them in
at least 50 countries living amidst war and persecution. They have little legal or physical protection
and a very uncertain future – outcasts in their own countries. Bureaucratically, they are described as
IDPs – or „internally displaced persons.‟ In the real world, they are civilians, mostly women and
children, who have been forced to abandon their homes because of conflict or persecution to seek
safety elsewhere. The idea and the phenomenon of internal displacement are not recent. According

Both groups often leave their homes for similar reasons. Civilians are recognized as „refugees‟
when they cross an international frontier to seek sanctuary in another country. The internally
displaced, for whatever reason, remain in their own states. Newly arrived refugees normally receive
food, shelter and a place of safety from the host country. A well–defined body of international laws
and conventions protects them. The UN refugee agency and other humanitarian organizations work

up above the horizon. As Tyrone got up, he climbed to the top of their little cave like hut and stared

when he felt something moving across his back. As Tyrone slowly looked over his shoulder he saw a

Is Mexico A Beautiful Country?
Mexico is a beautiful country with its many cultural aspects and tourist attractions. However, in
recent years, the things being associated with Mexico include death, violence, drugs, and corruption.
It seems that more and more news reports keep appearing of tragedies occurring in Mexico.
Recently, one tragedy that has caused great protest is the disappearance of forty–three students in
September 2014 from Guerrero. Sadly, this is not the first case of mass disappearances in Mexico.
This case also includes a large amount of confusion as to what actually happened that night. To this
day, people are still wondering who these forty–three students are, what actually happened that
night, and they continue to show there support for Mexico after these disappearances caused great
impact across the world. Tragedy struck Mexico the day that these students disappeared. They
disappeared from Guerrero, Mexico on September 26, 2014. These forty–three students came from
an all male school in Ayotzinapa. They are described as being, "in their late teens and early twenties,

better their lives instead of having to following in the steps of their family. Instead of working on
farms, they wanted to go to school and become teachers so they could help improve the lives of their
families and future generations of students who they would eventually teach if this tragedy had not

Introduction . The Formation Of A Nation-State Has Created
Introduction
The formation of a nation–state has created binary categories of those who belong (citizens) and
those who do not belong ('aliens') to the state. Complex socio–economic and geopolitical boundaries
including territorial boundaries divide the citizens from 'aliens', and the state exercises sovereign
power to protect the privileges of the former (Hayter, 2004). On the other hand, forced displacement
is counterproductive to the notion of the state as a selective 'container' (Koser, 2003). For various
reasons, states, policymakers, international bodies, institutions and local governors put displaced
people into categories such as refugees, economic migrants, returnees, Internally Displaced Persons
(IDPs) and others (Reed, 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evolution of the international refugee protection regime
In the aftermath of the WWII and the beginning of the Cold War tensions, the UNHCR began its
mandate of addressing the issues of refugees as defined by the 1951 Geneva Convention with thirty–
three staff and a $30,000 budget (Feller, 2001:131). Reflecting post–colonial European hegemonic
structure and ignoring the upheavals of decolonisation in the 'Third World,' geographic and temporal
limitations were embedded within the definition of a refugee. The convention recognises persons
displaced before the first of January 1951 within the European geographical region (Nygh, 2000 and
Loescher et al., 2008). Thus, the mandate of the UNHCR was apparently limited to the protection of
refugees displaced before the drafting of the 1951 Geneva Convention and only within Europe. At
this time, because of the strategic aims of the Cold War period and demand for labour, "refugees
were welcomed noncitizens in many [European] countries" (Feller, 2001:129). In other words, the
refugee regime was designed to provide geopolitical and economic responses to mass displacement
due to Nazism and communism. After more than a decade and a half of this Eurocentric approach,
the geographic and temporal limitations of the 1951 Geneva Convention were lifted by the 1967
protocol (Betts, 2010). By removing the

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder And The Syrian Civil War
When photographs were published of Aylan Kurdi, a three–year–old Syrian refugee who drowned
with his mother and older brother off the coast of Turkey, much of the world caught a first–time
glimpse into the Syrian refugee crisis, a vast humanitarian emergency and byproduct of the Syrian
Civil War that continues to this day. A year later, video emerged of Omran Daqneesh, a five–year old
boy shown sitting in the back of an ambulance, covered in dust and seemingly in shock, blood caked
to the side of his face. These photos alone illustrate the deep social need for humanitarian assistance
to Syria's almost five million refugees. With the civil war now in its sixth year, almost 14 million
people need assistance within Syria, while 6.6 million people are internally displaced with nowhere
to call home (Migration Policy Centre, 2016). Internally displaced persons are often left with no
choice but to flee their battered country. Forced migration often leads to sickness, family disruption,
shattered self–esteem, and mental health problems including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
(Hassan, Ventevogel, Jefee–Bahloul, Barkil–Oteo, & Kirmayer, 2016). Unfortunately, this is just a
short list of consequences. The Syrian refugee crisis is one of the most critical and difficult concerns

The size of Connecticut, El Salvador is one of Central America's most densely populated countries
and has the highest mortality rate in the world. First conquered by the Spaniards in the early 1500s,
El Salvador's history is filled with tension, violence, and exclusion; the settlers robbed the
indigenous people of their land and forced them to slave in the coffee plant fields. Not only were the
indigenous people deprived of their land, it was kept in the hands of the elite, creating little to no
social mobility and further subjugating native Salvadorans. As discontent and tension increased
between the elite and the poor, a massacre occurred on January 22, 1932 that was carried out by the
National Guard, killing between 10,000 and 40,000 peasants–most of whom were indigenous
people. The slaughter ignited a fire among the Salvadoran people that was fueled by unfulfilled

Finance and Funding in United States Refugee Resettlement: A System Evaluation
The United States resettles thousands of refugees every year from all over the globe. Once a refugee

process of resettlement can begin. How does the United States fund refugee resettlement? Are the
allocated funds being used in an effective way that allow for long term success of individuals who

It is important to note that this study solely focuses on refugees and does not cover other migrant
populations such as asylum seekers. Both refugees and asylees are "individuals who are unable or
unwilling to return to their country of origin or nationality because of persecution or a well–founded

There are controversial viewpoint on the benefit and downsides of land grabbing. Civil society
organization and peasant network from developing countries are concerned over impact on food
security, the environment and human rights. Others welcome investment activities in developing

Burundi Genocide

  • 1. Burundi Genocide A person who is outside of their national country with the fear of being persecuted based on a specific reason given by their country is referred to as a refugee. Persecution can occur if their country does not agree on their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or the membership of a certain social group. An internally displaced person (IDP) is a person who has not crossed an international border in order for them to find refuge. Both groups of people are similar because in both cases there are people who are running away from their own country or land. They could both be running from an issue, law, or belief that they may not agree with and can be victimized for such beliefs. The difference between a refugee and an internally displaced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only has the IRC stepped in to help these refugees but also UNHCR has partnered with the governments of Tanzania to help Burundi. From 1993 to 2000, Tanzania has been host to almost 1.5 million refugees (Thomas 2009). The fact that there are so many refugees in Tanzania can have many economical effects. The goods and infrastructure will have to be shared between the citizens and the refugees that flee there. Although Tanzania camps are already getting full with so many refugees, the IRC are helping by identifying unaccompanied children and providing them with care and counseling to those who have survived sexual violence (Tanzania 2015). There are also allowing these refugee people to stay in mass shelters, churches, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay On Forced German Migration My Research topic was the forced migration of Germany's post World War II. I looked at many different secondary sourced with a wide range of views on why this event happened. What information cherished the most was the Primary sources I referenced which were mostly testimonies from Germans who survived this event. The questions I set out to answer consisted of: Should this event be considered A war crime? Should the Germans receive any sympathy from the world community? Does the fact a portion of the German community did not support the Reich change anything? The First question was surprisingly easy to answer. There is already a clear answer out there, but I wanted to take my own path and decide for myself if the general decision agrees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I'm extremely interested in world War 2, and have been since a relatively early age. There are multiple example of migration surrounding World War II, like the migration of the Jews pre and post World War II, and migrations in the United states due to people working in the War industry. I wanted to research migration as a whole around World War II, but decided it was to broad of a topic to create a good paper. I decided to narrow it down to a specific migration. I dabbled with multiple examples. I finally decided on forced German Migration after I saw examples of this in A German Movie called Downfall that I was watching. I thought this would be a unique and interesting topic to research. I Decided to narrow my topic even further so I could initiate into some very detailed research on forced migration from Eastern Germany. Continuously throughout this paper I haven't lost interest. I enjoy how my topic also directly relates to MC 112, as well as my other James Madison class. This is due to how citizenship was interpreted during the expulsion. If I could redo my paper I would have definitely have added more about citizenship and how it relates to the Forced German expulsion after World War II. I have gained a lot of knowledge and confidence from writing this paper. If I can write this long and challenging paper I can write almost anything. I'm also very proud of what I wrote I spent countless hours ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Effects Of Forced Migration On The United Nations In Recent times, migration has become common, and the reason for migration is often access to better education and the cleaner environment. However, some migration is not by choice. Forced migration occurs in a less stable region due to the war or environment problem. The term forced migration refers to those who are compelled to leave their own town or country. This essay will explain the impacts of forced migration, particularly refugees. The definition of refugee, which is given by the united nations (as cited in Forced Migration,2011), is someone who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, conflict, or natural disaster. Focus on this definition, it means the war and the natural disaster are problems which can make refugees. It will focus on adult mental health, human rights and child issues. Initially, one of the issues faced by refugees is mental health. There is a report written by Fazel, Reed, Brick and Stein, which is published online (2011). They mentioned that the refugee who is separated from the families are tolerated the damage both from the heart and physical part. Focusing on this aspect, there are some graphs given in the report, which are about the basic information of refugee and the mental health condition of them. Basic on the table, it can be found that the refugee children cannot accommodate the social environment in the new country easily. • 13. Forced Migration Of Human Population Forced migration of human population around the world from one country to a relatively "safer country" is not a new phenomenon. At the end of 2014 the number of displaced population around the world was estimated to be over 50 million (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) 2014). The grounds for migration are varied and sometimes complex. Those who flee from their mother– land to avoid a whole gamut of persecutions even death require urgent resettlements. The host country immigration system generally recognises them as genuine refugees. However, the unauthorised arrivals who were allured by a higher job opportunity, a higher living standard, and accessible welfare benefits in Western countries are often returned to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality, there is a great deal of confusion in the public's view to how asylum seekers and refugees differ. Based on the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, the former means those who seek international protection but their refugee status have not been granted, whereas the latter means those who are identified and recognised under the Convention to be refugees – who are people fled from their original country to avoid persecutions. The arrival of asylum seekers has progressively become a controversial issue as they are proven to suffer various unfair treatments by some host countries, including Australia. (Burnside & Reynolds 2014; Gordon 2013; Pagliaro 2013). It is argued that the arrival of asylum seekers in Australia generates significant public fear and anxiety in terms of national security, unemployment rate, and cultural identity (Gilchrist 2013; McAdam 2013). However, a clear understanding of what contributions asylum seekers could convey economically, socially and politically in Australian community, may strengthen the authority and public view to why they should be welcomed to Australia. A significant number of people to seek protection as refugees are an inevitable challenge for any host country governments' immigration system and border controls. The most problematic issue lies upon how a nation should manage the balance between defending its national border and assisting those in need. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Radicalized establishments allocate similar thoughts but engage in a variety of acts. Islamic extremists attain ideology and beliefs that differs and disregards collective moral standards. Extremists habitually establish acts accordingly, in order to function in their prospective environments. Individuals whom withhold beliefs regarding both religion, and politics, participate in extreme acts. However, sex slavery is an act that is consistently practiced. ISIS is an organization that consists of misleading and inaccurate understandings of Islams historical civilization. "To the extent that what ISIS leaders are doing is repudiated by just about every reputable Islamic organization and scholar and the vast majority of Muslims everywhere, it is irresponsible to say what they are doing is very Islamic. All religions have individuals who do things that others in the same religion find morally wrong or reprehensible or even heretical. ISIS is no exception." (Lawrence). ISIS is more so a spiritual fundamentalist group in which represents how existence was when Mohammad lived. Sex slavery is a forced act of sexual exploitation. Throughout history, Islamic communities condoned this form of slavery. As per sections of the Qur'an, Muslim men are permitted to retain woman as sex slaves. "O Prophet! Turbochargers: Internal Combustion Engine and Turbocharger Society is driven by the thought of improving every existing invention to make it bigger, smaller, more cost effective, or simply better. The internal combustion engine has been used in transportation for everyone who lives in a civilized area; whether it is a motorcycle, car, bus, airplane, etc. The most important advances in technology for these engines involve efficiency. Gas mileage, performance, and displacement are key concerns for all engineers of internal combustion engines. With the invention of the turbocharger all of these factors can be improved. The inventor, progression, impact, and current adaptation of the turbocharger are very important in understanding this engineering innovation. The entire world can thank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New ways of oil lubricating were added along with water–cooling. The sizes of turbochargers now range from the diameter of a baseball to larger than a basketball. The turbocharger has made a significant impact in all of our lives. The turbocharger enables millions of engines around the world to make more power and give engines higher efficiency. Ships, planes, cars, trucks, etc. would all have to have bigger engines that would use more fuel to accomplish what they do with a turbocharger. The air pollution and gas shortage would be much worse if none of our engines were turbocharged. Furthermore turbochargers are used in many sports. The two main sports that simply rely on turbochargers are drifting and rally racing. These cars need to be light, so they cannot have big displacement engines thus relating back to forced induction. Major companies such as Garrett, HKS, Turbonetics, and Banks are always coming up with new ways to improve turbochargers. These companies drive the industry in terms of turbochargers because of the constant improvement of the already great invention. Although there are many factory vehicles that come with turbochargers the aftermarket industry truly drives the need for improvement. Drifting alone has become a billion dollar industry causing manufacturers to work harder than ever to make their individual products stand out from the crowd. The Growing Problem of Environmental Displacement Essay The number of environmentally displaced people is growing and it's important for individuals to be informed of the topic and what all it entails. A study published by Economic & Political Weekly, in 2009, approximates 24 million displaced people due to climate change and environmental situations. (Economic & Political Weekly, 2009) That number was estimated to grow to 50 million by 2010, and exceeding 150 million by 2050. (Economic & Political Weekly, 2009) The world has to be informed of what these numbers mean. Understanding what environmental displacement means is a step toward that direction. King defines slow onset, "resulting from the gradual deterioration of the environment," (2006, p 246) and acute onset, "resulting from sudden and immediate environmental damage." (2006, p 246) The researcher continues to break these terms down even more. Slow onset movements can be broken into two groups, one being a movement with the possibility to return, the other being a movement with no possibility of return. King does the same with acute onset. King (2006) describes the possibility of returning are displaced by certain situations that could be re–established, whereas those who do not have the possibility are due to permanent situations. Through research, it's been made clear how to differentiate environmental climate migrants. Overall, it's important to consider migration due to environmental situations is not the same as a refugee. King says, "Environmentally displaced persons are refugee–like, in that they are rendered particularly vulnerable by the immediate and involuntary nature of their movement, but because they are not protected by the current refugee regime, they are in particular need of international assistance." (King, 2006, p 551) Terms best used to describe those displaced due to environmental issues are environmental migrants, meaning they voluntarily migrated, or environmentally displaced persons, in cases where they are forced to migrate. • 29. The Pros And Cons Of Environmentally Displaced People? Now a days, the climate changes are getting even more threatening for humans and the whole Earth. It has been estimated that more than 20 million human beings will be environmentally displaced from their homelands in the near future especially after the event of rise in the sea level because of global warming. All these factors will have an extremely adverse effect on the population of a lot of countries especially those in Africa and Asia, and it will result to the appearance of a certain category of people– environmentally displaced people– that's why all countries must stand together and find a way to protect people who suffered and left their homelands due to the environmental disasters, but to do that, all countries must first consider pros and cons of environmental displacement. Victor Orellana Mr. Fyffe English IV 04/16/2017 Leafblowers vs Snails The majestic leaf blowers(superchargers), is a car add–on that makes your car faster. As well as the snail(turbo). But both are different, way different. A supercharger is an air compressor that increases the pressure or density of air supplied to an internal combustion engine. This gives each intake cycle of the engine more oxygen, letting it burn more fuel and do more work. A turbocharger, or turbo, is a turbine–driven forced induction device that increases an internal combustion engine 's efficiency and power output by forcing extra air into the combustion chamber. This improvement over a naturally aspirated engine 's power output is due to the fact that the ... But mostly drifting vehicles because the more power you got the easier it is to drift as the wheels can spin up quicker and the less traction you got with the tarmac the easier.("Engineering Explained: The Pros And Cons Of Turbochargers Vs Superchargers." ) Now the pros and cons of the majestic supercharger. Pro's : Increased horsepower: adding a supercharger to any engine is a quick solution to boosting power. No lag: the supercharger biggest advantage over a turbocharger is that it does not have any lag. Power delivery is immediate because the supercharger is driven by the engine's crankshaft. Low RPM boost: good power at low RPM in comparison with turbochargers. Price: cost effective way of increasing horsepower.(Engineering Explained: The Pros And Cons Of Turbochargers Vs Superchargers. ) Now the con's Less efficient: the biggest disadvantage of superchargers is that they suck engine power simply to produce engine power. The Causes Of Forced Migration In The Country Of Population Forced migration is defined as, "a general term that refers to the movements of refugees and internally displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well as people displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or development projects" (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, n.d.). Since the 1940, this issue has risen steady and affects over a million individuals globally. In 2015, nine out of 1000 people were evacuated by force (Bozorgmehr & Razum, 2017). Health problems can become abundant among forced migrants due to the vast amount of people dwelling within a small camp. Multiple diseases may begin to fester among the refuge location because many people may bring the foreign illness to the location. This may lead to new illnesses in a place that has not experienced that particular type of illness in that area. Because majority of forced migrants are in such crowded quarters, diseases can proliferate quickly throughout the population as a result of poor hygiene and sanitation. This leads to an increase in health care demand; however, due to the increased amount of people in the vicinity these types of services may be limited or unavailable to the individuals. A decrease or destruction of health care to forced migrates can eventually lead to and increase mortality rate (Skolnik, 2016). The Process Of Aging And Dying Today 's Current Society Being Mortal Introduction The introduction provided a general synopsis of what would be discussed in the book, the process of aging and dying in today's current society, and how that process compares to other cultures and generations. The author, Atul Gawande, also recounted a few memories of his experiences in college and as a new doctor, which created a foundation for which his topic was both presented and elaborated on. While the tradition in India was to have family care for the elderly, Gawande stated that in the U.S., aging has gone from a multi–generational responsibility and turned into a private and secluded affair. 2. Things Fall Apart Continuing on, Gawande made the argument that until recent years, every day was a roll of the dice, meaning that death was much more common and uncontrollable than it is now. Gawande likened the aging and dying process to that of a trap door. Suddenly the good health that the person was accustomed to fell underneath their feet, no longer supporting them. He then described how modern medicine has impacted the process of dying and compared it to descending down a hilly road on a mountain rather than a cliff with a steep, immediate drop. As he continued into the chapter, Gawande discussed how the aging process seems to be based on normal wear and tear as a person lives their life. He also referenced how even though the deterioration process can be slowed, the fact is that the human body dramatically changes throughout a person 's life, especially when they reach an older age. Gawande noted these physical changes, such as how the human brain shrinks due to a loss of gray matter, and how the earliest portions of the brain that shrink are the frontal lobes, which aid in memory, judgement, and planning. Forced Migration And Refugee: Definition And Distinction Literature Review and Theoretical Overview Forced Migration and Refugee, Definition and Distinction Recently, forced migration term has spread widely and it has become one of the most common used terms, this is due to the unprecedented numbers of people who are being forced to leave their homes every day, either internally or internationally while fleeing the continuing crises in many regions in the world. These flowing waves of people have gotten the attention of the governments, researchers, organizations, and publics because of the big, deep, and significant effects that these waves are carrying on both hosts and migrants, as well as on sending and receiving countries. These tremendous numbers of forced migrants include various groups and every group can be classified under different category depending on the reasons, geographic borders of the movement, and legal situation of the migrants in the host country, which also varies from country to another. • 77. How The Roman Catholic Church 's Stance On Peaceful... Conversion in Medieval Iberia can invoke ambivalent feelings. Christians originally wanted to convert Jews and Muslims through kind words and religious teachings from the Bible. This idea, nevertheless, evolved over the centuries and Christians began converting non–believers through violence and compulsion. Also, even after individuals were converted, Christians did not fully trust their motivations, and believed they would remiss into their old religions. While Marian miracles did help alleviate these tensions, a number of vicious acts were committed against Jews and Muslims during this time period. In this essay, I am going to examine the idea of conversion from the Christian perspective, and how Christians were able to tempt Jews and Muslims to convert. I am also going to compare the contradictory nature of converting through peaceful and violent means. This comparison will showcase how the Roman Catholic Church 's stance on peaceful conversion was overcome by local Christian communities. Conversion is the act of changing one 's religion to another religion. During the twelfth to fifteenth century in Medieval Iberia, a number of Jews and Muslims converted to Christianity. To Christians, "conversions represented the elimination of dangerous enemies and the ongoing triumph of the 'new Israel. For whom? In their work, Refugees and Forced Displacement, International Security, and Human Vulnerability, Edward Newman and Jan van Selm describe how mass and forced displacement of populations have been used as a weapon during conflict: "refugee flows are demonstrably a source of [...international conflict] through causing instability in neighbouring countries, triggering intervention, and sometimes providing a basis for warrior communities within camps that can form the source for insurgency, resistance, and terrorist movements" (p. 5). It is Newman and van Salem's mention of warrior communities within refugee camps that elucidate the potential security threat refugees may impose on states and/or individuals. This essay illustrates how the militarization of refugee camps by "warrior refugees" who recruit within the refugee community and exploit humanitarian aid, pose a significant security threat to the sending state, the humanitarian community, and refugees who are susceptible to being used as military weapons during a conflict (ibid.). It also uses the Rwanda case study to demonstrate how a receiving state that does not have the means and/or desire to police military leaders within refugee facilitates the security threat as well. CHAPTER VII POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS TO THE LAND ACQUISITION CONUNDRUM The above study on land acquisition points to three broad areas of conflict between the people, requiring body and the government. They are: (1) Evaluation of the purpose and necessity of acquisition; (2) Enumeration of the population that will be disadvantaged because of the acquisition; and (3) Assessment of the quality of land, calculation of compensation payable thereof and the manner in which people are to be compensated. An alternative paradigm could involve division of the acquisition process into three mutually exclusive but logically integrated stages. (a) Pre–acquisition stage or the preparatory stage (b) Acquisition stage or the executive stage, and (c) Post–acquisition stage or ameliorative stage. As discussed herein above, the three broad areas of conflict between the people, requiring body and the Government are evaluation of the purpose and necessity of acquisition, enumeration of the population and assessment of compensation payable these can be dealt with in the preparatory stage. The legal process of acquisition and transfer of land can be accomplished in the executive stage, while the socio–economic problems and psychological trauma of forced displacement or loss livelihood can be dealt with in the ameliorative stage. A profound Southern American Catholic novelist, Flannery O'Connor concealed her true spiritual intentions into many of her grotesque stories. Many of her writings involve a tale of a displaced person that is eventually lead to redemption and mercy from God. Through plenty of hardships and mistakes, her protagonists endure a spiritual transformation that leads her characters into enlightenment. O'Connor weaves blatant instances of sacramentality, mediation, communion, mercy, and human dignity into the development of each of her stories. O'Conner revealed sacramentality in thousands of examples throughout her literary marks of genius. In "Wise Blood," Hazel's car exposed sacramentality as a symbol of himself. The car's beat–up, rugged state and unreliable features mirrored Hazel's own broken–down spirituality. When the car broke down on the side of the road, Hazel proclaimed, "This is a good car, Mister! This car can take me anywhere I wanna go!" (film). He argued that the "well–built" car could not break down due to its prime initial quality. His connection with the car resembled a part of himself. The car served as Hazel's longed–for home, podium, and sanctuary; the vehicle even provided him a place to sleep. Also, he found a homebased security atop of his car when he preached about the "Church Without Christ." Hazel even declared, "Nobody with a good car needs to be justified" (film). When migration was constituted through force, it was understood to be through political or economical duress. Whereas, increased economic labour created through force, was established for the rich to reap the benefits from majority of the poor. As Atul continued, he explained how, as a doctor, the greatest satisfaction received ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gawande also talked about how his father accepted and assimilated into virtually all of american culture, although he could not come to terms with the way that the elderly were treated here. Atul's father never seemed to understand why people in the U.S. Would leave their elderly to live alone or in unfamiliar facilities. The reason this idea felt so foreign to him is due mostly to the fact that his native culture treats the elderly in a much more hands–on and involved way. Gawande continued by explaining how his grandfather lived and died– with his family. Before dying at the age of 110, Sitaram lived with the children he had raised. He then described how modern medicine has impacted the process of dying and compared it to descending down a hilly road on a mountain rather than a cliff with a steep, immediate drop. ... • 113. Internally Displaced Person Preamble: For decades, they were largely ignored and forgotten, but together they probably comprise the world‟s largest group of vulnerable people. Currently, there are an estimated 30 million of them in at least 50 countries living amidst war and persecution. They have little legal or physical protection and a very uncertain future – outcasts in their own countries. Bureaucratically, they are described as IDPs – or „internally displaced persons.‟ In the real world, they are civilians, mostly women and children, who have been forced to abandon their homes because of conflict or persecution to seek safety elsewhere. The idea and the phenomenon of internal displacement are not recent. According to United Nations Office for the Coordination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Refugee vs. IDPs Both groups often leave their homes for similar reasons. Civilians are recognized as „refugees‟ when they cross an international frontier to seek sanctuary in another country. The internally displaced, for whatever reason, remain in their own states. Newly arrived refugees normally receive food, shelter and a place of safety from the host country. Essay On The Story Of A Short Story "We should probably head into the jungle to look so then at least we won't be as vulnerable as we are out here in the open "commented Carlos "Alright then," agreed Shane "let's head out first thing in the morning, but until then we should try and get some sleep" As the four children wandered into the small cave Carlos had created, the sun seemed to dissolve over the horizon and disappeared for the night. Tyrone woke up to the bluish green smell of the sea and fish, the sun just starting to rise up above the horizon. As Tyrone got up, he climbed to the top of their little cave like hut and stared out at the water and began to think about the past two days and he chuckled to himself, to think that just 48 hours ago he had been walking home from school without a care in the world. As Tyrone became mesmurised in the rippling surface of the ocean he suddenly got thrown back into reality when he felt something moving across his back. As Tyrone slowly looked over his shoulder he saw a harry grey and yellow spider crawling all over his back. "AAAhh," Tyrone screeched as he threw himself off of the top of the hut and hit the ground with a thud, "GETOFFMEGETOFFMEGETOFFME!" As the child ran around like a crazed chicken with it's head cut off the other boys rose to look at the spectacle laughing like a pack of hyenas. Sploosh, Nick doused Tyrone in a pile of water. However, in recent years, the things being associated with Mexico include death, violence, drugs, and corruption. It seems that more and more news reports keep appearing of tragedies occurring in Mexico. Recently, one tragedy that has caused great protest is the disappearance of forty–three students in September 2014 from Guerrero. Sadly, this is not the first case of mass disappearances in Mexico. This case also includes a large amount of confusion as to what actually happened that night. To this day, people are still wondering who these forty–three students are, what actually happened that night, and they continue to show there support for Mexico after these disappearances caused great impact across the world. Tragedy struck Mexico the day that these students disappeared. They disappeared from Guerrero, Mexico on September 26, 2014. These forty–three students came from an all male school in Ayotzinapa. They are described as being, "in their late teens and early twenties, tend to come from poor, indigenous campesino families" (Goldman). • 126. Introduction . The Formation Of A Nation-State Has Created Introduction The formation of a nation–state has created binary categories of those who belong (citizens) and those who do not belong ('aliens') to the state. Complex socio–economic and geopolitical boundaries including territorial boundaries divide the citizens from 'aliens', and the state exercises sovereign power to protect the privileges of the former (Hayter, 2004). On the other hand, forced displacement is counterproductive to the notion of the state as a selective 'container' (Koser, 2003). For various reasons, states, policymakers, international bodies, institutions and local governors put displaced people into categories such as refugees, economic migrants, returnees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and others (Reed, 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing so, the essay synthesises a range of migration and international relations literature. Evolution of the international refugee protection regime In the aftermath of the WWII and the beginning of the Cold War tensions, the UNHCR began its mandate of addressing the issues of refugees as defined by the 1951 Geneva Convention with thirty– three staff and a $30,000 budget (Feller, 2001:131). Reflecting post–colonial European hegemonic structure and ignoring the upheavals of decolonisation in the 'Third World,' geographic and temporal limitations were embedded within the definition of a refugee. The convention recognises persons displaced before the first of January 1951 within the European geographical region (Nygh, 2000 and Loescher et al., 2008). Thus, the mandate of the UNHCR was apparently limited to the protection of refugees displaced before the drafting of the 1951 Geneva Convention and only within Europe. At this time, because of the strategic aims of the Cold War period and demand for labour, "refugees were welcomed noncitizens in many [European] countries" (Feller, 2001:129). In other words, the refugee regime was designed to provide geopolitical and economic responses to mass displacement due to Nazism and communism. After more than a decade and a half of this Eurocentric approach, the geographic and temporal limitations of the 1951 Geneva Convention were lifted by the 1967 protocol (Betts, 2010). • 134. The Times Of Conflict : A Study Of Kashmir Essay Psychological Depression in the times of Conflict: A study of Kashmir Introduction: The Physical, Social and Mental health are central to life and all of these are deeply interdependent and entwined. Depression, currently ranked fourth among the most urgent health problems worldwide by WHO and predicted to become number two in terms of its disease burden, is more likely to be a result of various experiences like Conflict, Instability, Loss and Experiences of Humiliation, Disruptions, Oppression, Stress etc. Security concerns are dominant in the minds of the Kashmiri people as Deaths, Injury, Disappearances, Arrests, Encounters, Curfews, Rapes, Abductions and many other Abuses and Human Rights Violations are a part of their everyday lives (Syed Amin, 2009). A day in Kashmir starts with the news of Killings, Rapes, Torture, Arrests, Curfews, Assaults and what not, which then is recorded into the Psyche of the people. Everybody is affected from this war–like situation paralleled with a State of Mind wherein Grieving, Insecurity, Oppression, Poverty, Uncertainties of career and relationships are major themes (Asima Hassan, 2013). The constructivist account of the Kashmir dispute captures the crucial issue of contested national identities as a source of dispute and a factor affecting conflict resolution. It says that people construct their own understanding, ideas and knowledge of the world through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. This theory falls ... • 138. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder And The Syrian Civil War When photographs were published of Aylan Kurdi, a three–year–old Syrian refugee who drowned with his mother and older brother off the coast of Turkey, much of the world caught a first–time glimpse into the Syrian refugee crisis, a vast humanitarian emergency and byproduct of the Syrian Civil War that continues to this day. A year later, video emerged of Omran Daqneesh, a five–year old boy shown sitting in the back of an ambulance, covered in dust and seemingly in shock, blood caked to the side of his face. These photos alone illustrate the deep social need for humanitarian assistance to Syria's almost five million refugees. With the civil war now in its sixth year, almost 14 million people need assistance within Syria, while 6.6 million people are internally displaced with nowhere to call home (Migration Policy Centre, 2016). Internally displaced persons are often left with no choice but to flee their battered country. Forced migration often leads to sickness, family disruption, shattered self–esteem, and mental health problems including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) (Hassan, Ventevogel, Jefee–Bahloul, Barkil–Oteo, & Kirmayer, 2016). Unfortunately, this is just a short list of consequences. The Syrian refugee crisis is one of the most critical and difficult concerns facing social workers today, in the United States and abroad. First conquered by the Spaniards in the early 1500s, El Salvador's history is filled with tension, violence, and exclusion; the settlers robbed the indigenous people of their land and forced them to slave in the coffee plant fields. Not only were the indigenous people deprived of their land, it was kept in the hands of the elite, creating little to no social mobility and further subjugating native Salvadorans. As discontent and tension increased between the elite and the poor, a massacre occurred on January 22, 1932 that was carried out by the National Guard, killing between 10,000 and 40,000 peasants–most of whom were indigenous people. The slaughter ignited a fire among the Salvadoran people that was fueled by unfulfilled promises of socio–economic parity and agrarian reform. In 1979 a civil war broke loose, Salvadorans were disappearing, illegally detained by the military, and killed.
