Btec production ringwood school theatre
1. BTEC production – Ringwood School theatre
The foyer of the school becomes the entrance for the audience and the canteen is
the front of house where the audience will be until they are ready to be called in to
the auditorium.
The auditorium (the hall) – the part of the theatre where the audience sits.
The grey curtains are pulled across the sides of the hall and the tired seating is pulled
out to transform the school hall into a theatre.
Above the tired seating there is a platform for the controls during the show, such as
the sound, lighting and visuals.
On the ceiling of the hall there is a rig for
the sound and lighting equipment used to
create the show.
The stage -
the stage has a large proscenium arch
however doesn’t have a rake, meaning
that the stage floor is all one level
whereas most stages will often have a
sloped stage to give different levels and
to differentiate between the upstage and
downstage.
2. The stage has a small backstage area so the gym and art classrooms are often used.
The ceiling of the stage is called the fly’s
There are curtains at the back of the stage
called the borders and the front curtains
the audience see pulled across are the front
tabs , the curtains between the wings are
called the legs however if they were
wooden they would be the flats.
At the back of the stage there is the cyclorama,
a blank screen that is slightly curved and is normally stretched for projecting lights
and backgrounds onto.
The stage floor has a trap door that leads under the whole stage to be used during
performances. There is also a lighting rig on the ceiling above the stage to be used
during performances

3. The flight cases are big boxes on
wheels so that it is easy to move
around all the heavy lighting and
sound equipment that is in them
Stage left there is what is called the DSM corner
or the prompt corner, this is where the DSM can
see what is happening on stage from a screen and
can call actors to the stage from the gym or art
class rooms when they need to go on
