This document summarizes an A2 media course consisting of two units: 1. G324 Advanced Portfolio in Media coursework (50%) 2. G325 Critical Perspectives exam (50%) The coursework unit involves creating a music video as the main task along with two ancillary tasks such as a magazine ad or album packaging. Students will use software like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. They will also submit planning documentation and evaluate their work. The exam consists of two sections: the first involves writing about previous coursework projects, while the second addresses contemporary media issues like regulation with questions about practices, arguments, effectiveness and social impacts.

1. G324: Advanced Portfolio in Media
• Promotion Package (60 marks)
• Evidence of planning & research (20 marks)
• Evaluation (20 marks)
80 marks in total.

4. The promotion package consists of THREE
products
• Main Task – Music Video no more than 3 mins (40 marks)
• 2 Ancillary Tasks – a magazine advertisement & digipak album release (10
marks each)

6. Evaluation Questions
• 4 questions
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?

7. G325 exam has 2 sections:
• First section in the exam I will be writing about my AS & A2 coursework.
• Module 2: Critical Perspectives (2 hours)
1. Section A: Theoretical Evaluation of Production (50 marks)
2. Section B: Contemporary Media Issues (50 marks)

8. Section A – 2 compulsory questions:
• 1a) describe and evaluate your skills and development over the course of all
your production work, from BOTH AS and A2.
• Based upon 1 or 2 of: digital technology, creativity, research and planning,
post production, using convention from real media texts.
• 1b) select one production and evaluate it in relation to ONE of the media
concepts.
• Genre, narrative, representation, audience or media language.

9. Section B: contemporary media regulation
• What is the nature of contemporary media regulation compared with
previous practices?
• What are the arguments for and against specific forms of contemporary
media regulation?
• How effective are regulatory practises?
• What are the wider social issues relating to media regulation?
