Job Profile:
At present working on multi vendor Storage technology projects involving Hitachi arrays,EMC
Clarion, netapps and IBM SVC as a part of remote infrastructure management team.Being a part
of remote infrastructure services in the backup and storage domain main role is to facilitate the
data center operations and driving the projects as a team effort.
Day to day task involves client conference calls,meetings and working on various SAN projects
related to allocation and deallocation tasks, doing SAN healthcheck ,migration of servers across
data centers and troubleshooting , adhering to customer SLA and meeting the ITIL concepts and
standards. Always follow the ITIL service delivery model and try to inculcate the benefits of ITIL in
the team members while delivering service to customers. Creating and maintaing risk registers for
showcasing to customers about identified risks and performance bottleneck areas in
infrastructure, hardware support or software support and also providing action plans for each
risks.
Creating document for doing a RCA analysis to minimise the business impact. Firm believer in
team effort ,always working in direction to ensure no downtime involved in the activity and to
resume operations within SLA parameters quickly by restoring critical client data thereby
minimising the business impact & maximising the client satisfaction. Also responsible for driving
backup performance to improve the quality metrics.
StorageTechnologies used : Hitachi Data storage , EMC Clariion, HP XP 1024 arrays,
Brocade switches.

• Disaster Recovery :
2. Worked and coordinated with team members to bring the master server of one site up and
recover all client's data when the master server crashed.
Restored all the data and brought the system back to normal after working closely with
Symantec. After the services were restored and data recovered
worked closely with platform teams in preparing a RCA document so that these risks
could be avoided in future.
• Migration of Netbackup master server from old to new hardware.
As a backup lead was involved in the preparation of the project plan and scope after
coordinating and involving all the Line of service ,stakeholders and vendors.
Then we raised the change and created a failback plan and evaluated it with the vendor and
documented all the necessary steps and analyzed and identified all the risks .
After the approval before the day of executing the plan and implementing it we took all
necessary backups to avoid any business downtime. Proper RTO and RPO analysis
were done keeping in view of the criticality of the business.
• Upgrade of master servers to new versions
Involved in upgrading the master server and all the client servers to new versions of
netbackup to maintain compatibility and also to meet vendor support requirements.
This was a long duration project carried out in close coordination with all the platform
teams and vendor and customer. The backup project plan was prepared and the scope
was discussed and planned and all the possible risks were identified beforehand in
meetings before proceeding. The project was executed successfully by following the
proper change management procedure and adhering strictly to ITIL concepts.
• Backup Performance improvement project done to improve backup
performance and SLA.
This project was carried out to improve the backup performance and find out the problems
and bottlenecks .
a) Identification of Legacy server and their backup size . by stopping their backups with
client coordination we saved cost in terms of media cost and also solved most
of the performance bottleneck problems.
b) Stopping redundant and unnecessary database files getting backed up by doing by
thorough policy checks and also implementing standard exclude lists
wherever they are missing. This has resulted in reduced tape consumption and also
optimum utilization of resources and we are able to avoid data redundancy to a great extent.
This has resulted in reduced tape consumption and volume of data backed up. Overall
there were cost savings in terms of media.
c) Reconciliation project : Post reconciliation has resulted in identification of all the
servers which were not getting backed up or which are to be exempt
from backups and accordingly the effective remedial measures were taken to enhance
the backup environment. It improved the quality audit score.
d) Initiatives were also taken to create a weekly service improvement plan register to
address immediate issues. Every week action items were discussed and updated
information was shared.It was challenging and helped to achieve close coordination
among team members and managementand improved backup performance and enhanced
customer satisfaction.
3. • Project to automate media recall and remove dependency on backup
engineers.
Previously the procedure to recall scratch tapes was very tedious for the backup engineer.
Everyday backup engineer on the shift used to check manually the scratch tapes available.
Backup team developed a script and implemented in cron to automate the entire procedure.
The cron runs everyday at a certain time and checks for the scratch tape availability.
If the count is less than the threshhold it sends an alert to the operations team and the
backup team and also generates a scratch tape list which is to be recalled from offsite. Now the
entire procedure is automatic and does not require any manual intervention. It not only
reduced the backup engineer’s effective man hours daily but it has also helped in minimizing the
backup failures
during the weekend due to unavailability of tapes.
• Microcode upgrade
Project is carried to meet the compatibility and industry standards as per vendor support .
Creating a project plan and steps and discussing it with all lines of service
and stakeholders and also convincing the application teams.
• Storage performance optimization :
a) San health check audit across the sites and performing config backups of san switches.
b) Configuring alert monitoring (Hi track in case of Hitachi) in switches and arrays to know
about any failures in the datacenter.
c)Preparing monthly storage capacity reports and San switch capacity reports to check for
the storage data growth and availability
of swicth ports . this helps in proper capacity planning and we can convince the
customer with the data about our requirements.
d)) Maintaing a risk register and updating it with any identified risks and action plans.

Project description:
This project was executed in the Merchant Mill of Bhilai Steel Plant, a steel rolling mill
I was involved in the maintenance of the machines and the Servers upto some extent, in case
of emergencies and breakdowns so that in case of emergency machines can be easily
replaced with the spares.
Keeping track of the readiness of spares is a tedious and time-consuming process.
The system was designed to benefit both the Planning Department and the Running
Maintenance Department
Created extensive Database in Oracle to maintain and keep track of the spares and the
machines.
Designed the front end in VB6.
The front-end forms were used to update and add new machines to the database as well
as to keep a track of the history of the breakdown of machines.
He Project Management team used this application to derive the weekly MIS Reports
