Personal statement
Over my 14 years in GE I have built up a great deal of technical knowledge and experience. This
has expanded to cover many leading edge technologies in the database and cloud arenas.
I have also developed in sourced and contract teams to meet complex business requirements for
large enterprise environments.
I have lead some of the largest initiatives within the business's and have completed many large
complex migrations to new o/s layers, db technologies and leading edge Cloud infrastructure.
We have brought about major change as well with the move to the Cloud and the in sourcing of
technical resources from an outsourcing model.
I have also developed skills in budget management and staff appraisal which have helped me
develop into an experienced manager.

• Insourced a team of 7 GE dba's to take over Cloud operations from Contract GDC team

Strategic Initiatives Leader
(Jan 2005 – Jan 2006)
Achievements and responsibilities:
• Creation of Linux db model to provide HA and improved performance and stability.
• Developed proc’s for a standard Oracle build on Linux. This ensured stability and increased
performance.
• Delivered the first phase of the Linux db migration moving all the DWH DB’s from Solaris over to
Linux. This allowed the decommission of two high end Solaris servers delivering savings of around
200,000 a year.
• The Linux migration project has migrated over 100 db's so far. The close relationship we have
built up with each of the app teams has ensured the successful migration of the DB’s.
• Delivered project migrating all DB backups to RMAN from standard scripts.

• Involved in the DB consolidation project. This delivered consolidation of 8 db's into two and
removal of 15 unwanted db's.
• Created the migration team using resources from various GDC’s. I Interviewed and selected
resources myself, then developed and trained resources to ensure required level of service.
• Lead resolution on a number of high profile issues within the Linux environment . An integrated
team was setup which resolved the stability issues threatening future of project.
• Developed documentation for the migration project including build docs and proc’s for both Linux
and Oracle. Procedures were developed for the prod cut overs that could be used to automate
future migrations.

Infrastructure Leader
(Jan 2004 – Jan 2005)
Achievements and responsibilities:
• Project leader for the creation of the shared env cluster. Cluster setup to provide both HA and
site DR for critical app db’s.
• High visibility performance tuning projects completed against the HR Shared dwh db’s.
• Project leader for the migration of both the DWH and Shared env from Sun to Linux platform.
This was a cost reduction exercise which allowed us to migrate the dbs on the above envs to more
cost effective hardware. This delivered around $800,000 of cost savings in first year.
• Involved in offshoring the database operations team based in the UK over to Gecis in India. This
resulted in a reduction in cost and an extension to the support hours covered.
• Upgrade and performance tuning project completed against the Global APC database
environment. Delivering new supported database version, partitioned tables and a 50%
improvement in response time.
• Developed automation through db scripting for repeatable operational tasks. Created a software
repository to hold all of these centrally.

Oracle Technical Leader

Achievements and responsibilities:
• Managed a small team of 8 technical resources providing all operational support for GTS
Department. This included all critical environments as well as the Global Sourcing and Peoplesoft
Payroll db support, SSO Infra, and Monitoring and backup management.
• Built and managed a new shared Solaris (Veritas) cluster consolidating all small web/app db's
onto this platform. In total this supported 133 database environments
• Built a seperate Solaris cluster hosting the HR DWH Instances used for reporting
• Developed a new database environment for the UK Epayables application used by Global
Operations. Built out standalone servers in the UK CSC DC in Bristol
