2. As a group we came up with several different types audience feedback, we thought that this would be the best way to get the most
range of feedback; a survey ;Youtube comments ; in-class conversations ; first person feedback.
Firstly we put our music video onYouTube and sent it to some of our peers to get
range of feedback. From the feedback we have found that the audience liked the
storyline and the way it was edited. However not many people were a fan of the
ambiguity and some where confused towards the end.The majority of the feedback
was positive and everybody said they liked the link between the lyrics and visuals.
Another positive from theYouTube feedback is that a few people said that they
liked the videos cutting rhythm and that it matched the songs beat. This made the
overall video look more professional and just tied the whole video in together
better.
We watched our music videos in class. From this we got first person feedback by our
peers and then our teacher told us the positives and negatives of our video.
A positive was that the editing and beat matching was good. The scene towards the
end when the shot has a fast cutting pace that also matches the beat looks very
professional. This helped us find out what our strong points were and what parts of
the editing were lacking and which parts were good.
Through audience feedback we found out that the parallel editing that we edited in
was effective and kept the audience guessing on what was happening, it was also
said that the audience felt like it added an ambiguous ending to the video.
3. We also showed a group of peers our digipak and magazine advert to see what
their opinion on them was which gave us first person feedback. The digipak had
the best feedback out of the two.The digipak was said to look ‘very professional’
and we found out that our choice in colour scheme was a good idea as everyone
thought that it looked appealing and the purple that we used matched the
existing Fall Out Boy digipak and magazine advert’s colours, which made it easier
to read and more appealing to look at.
Negative comments:
‘ I was a bit confused about the ending, did he kill the main girl or
was he about to?’
In editing we did think that the ending was quite uncertain, however
we liked the bit of mystery and that it makes the audience interpret
it how they think. We tried to portray the main actor (Jack) as
psychotic in his mise-en-scene and the facial expressions so that it
would help the audience understand.
‘ I feel like the video is too ambiguous, if could be made a bit clearer
with a few more scenes.’
After researching Fall Out Boy’s previous videos and the genre in which
they are in we found that most of their videos are quite ambiguous and
we wanted to stay in the genre and make a connection between our
products and existing Fall Out Boy.
‘ If there was a more clear reason why the girl didn’t like the boy
anymore then I feel that the video would be better.’
We did shoot another scene to replace the scene with the main girl
crying in her room however in editing it didn't’t quite fit the beat
and it wasn’t as clear quality as the one we already had, so we
compromised and kept the one we had in already.
‘ Most of the editing was good however a
few of the scenes were considerably longer
than the others and if they were the same
It would have flowed better.’
The longer scenes tend to have more
meaning in them, like the first scene where
the boy sees the girl. If the scene is longer
then its to add to the story and make an
effect. I understand that it may make the
flow a little less smooth however it makes
adds to the narrative.
‘The majority of the acting/camerawork was good however
a few scenes arent very well shot/look a little ammature.’
As it was our first time shooting we did have some limitation
on how well we could film and act. After we shot the majority
of our scenes we found that some of them weren't up to our
standards and that we could do better so we did go back and
re-shoot some scenes.
Summary
The negative feedback was all very similar, the majority
of the negative feedback was that the video was too
ambiguous. Maybe next time if we were to re-do, we
could show a group of people who are already fans of
the genre or fans of Fall Out Boy, because this would
change the feedback as they would already know the
typical conventions of the genre. The negative feedback
is always good to find out as we can see what appeals
to certain audiences and what doesn't.
