person (Antonia, p2). One would think that in the past two hundred years people's beliefs would
have changed a little bit, but the general white public are stuck into believing the common
stereotypes commonly portrayed in movies. In films and television shows blacks are almost always
portrayed as murderers, robbers, rapists, pretty much anything negative, like American History X,

White people might not take it very well and possibly get the impression that minorities will never
amount to anything, nor be a large portion of the population. In the late 1970's, the hit–movie Roots
took the country by storm serving as an icebreaker for minorities getting into the movie industry. It
showed the world that a movie consisting of all black actors could still be a very popular movie.
Even though it revolved around the concept of slavery, once Roots came out, minorities started to
show up more and more in films. In the years to come, this trend would become more and more of a
standard in America's mainstream culture. In the late 1980's a film entitled Lethal Weapon came out.
In this movie, a black man is shown having the family and being the successful one, while Mel
Gibson, the white man, plays the role of the suicidal lunatic after the death of his new wife. This
movie was one of the first few movies where this kind of thing was going on. Just for laughs, the
two would make fun of each other and make somewhat racist assumptions about each other. But in
the end of the movie they end up becoming best friends. Lethal Weapon served as a good movie to
unlock the door to the minority/white costar door with due to the way in which it does it in a fun
way where the viewer doesn't even realize that the two were of a different race.

This book was incredible! In all truth this was the first book I have ever read cover to cover. The
book, by Ron Kovic, as compared to the film, by Oliver Stone, had some impressive similarities.
Both the book and the film did a great job of portraying Ron's childhood in Massapequa, Long
Island. From the little league games to playing war in the woods, leading charges and setting
ambushes. This was especially well done in the movie, and exactly as I pictured them while reading
the book. The time that he spent in Mexico was well defined in the book as well as in the film.

especially his mother. While in the book Kovic makes it extremely clear that the most influential
reason for him joining the Marines was because of the movies he saw as a boy, specifically the

filmmaking business since legitimate retailers cannot possibly compete fairly with pirate business. ...

is essential to the survival of the film industry. If a film is pirated at any point, the worth of that film
can be fatally depleted long before it can retrieve its initial investment.

The beginning of the movie could or could not be modified from the beginning of the book; either
way would still appropriately capture the atmosphere of the psychoanalyst and Holden. One way to
begin is by actually showing Holden lying in a psychoanalyst's office, where he begins his narration.
The camera would then fade into Pencey Prep, with Holden standing atop Thomsen Hill. Another
approach could just be to begin directly with the scene on the hill, with Holden voicing over the
picture.
Of course, not every scene could have narration. Otherwise the movie would be unrealistic. Some of
the thoughts that run through Holden's head would have to become dialogue, for example, Holden
would mumble "Phony" under his breath while talking to certain characters.

All of the scenes occurring at Pencey would be filmed at another prep school resembling the
descriptions given by Holden throughout the book. ("...Way the hell up on top of Thomsen Hill,

Part of the issue when perusing these reviews is to determine what the critic perceived the purpose
of Pacino's film to be. Brennan's hypothesis is that Pacino's primary objective is to find meaning in
Richard III, and the secondary objectives include creating an accessible version of the play the Mr.
Joe Average can understand, while portraying the acting process when faced with such a formidable
text. How a critic views the goals of the film directly relates to how well he or she believes Pacino

The presentation of women on screen is another highlighted issue in many of the gathered sources.

This character began to appear in the 1930's, at the same time that an audio component was
introduced into cinema. The audience was not however interested in the voice of the vamp but rather
for her appearance and sex appeal. She was often depicted as exotic and sensual. As Tara Osorio
writes, "In early cinema, Hollywood represented Latinas as ignorant, and valued their striking
appearance and figure rather than their intelligence, character, and personalities." (Tara Osorio) With
the introduction of musicals into cinema, there were many opportunities for vamp roles. There were
three particular women in early cinema who were infamous for portraying the vamp character.
Carmen Miranda, Dolores Del Rio, and Lupe Velez were typecast in such roles and were seen in the
majority of films produced in these decades.
This character represented an image that was offensive and insulting to many. The character did not
have many diverse elements and was a rather one–dimensional figure. It was even more damaging
when you take into account that the same role was repeated, often by the same actress in a myriad of
films. As one actress Rita Moreno describes after she had played a similar spitfire character fourteen
times in eleven years.

	In "Blackmail" it is the use of both sounds and visuals. Hitchcock managed to not take away
from the visuals when incorporating sound into his films. The sound does not overwhelm the film so
the viewer is still able to pay attention to the finite detail. A viewer does not miss the reoccurring
image of hands reaching at Alice. The same with the glove being forgotten in the artist's studio, the

being able to make a novel's story line work in a movie with just a few adjustments. He was able to
compress the novel to a length that would interest the audience and improve upon it as well. The

Throughout Memento there are a multiplicity of instances in which manipulation occurs. The
audience sees a plethora of people manipulating Leonard such as Teddy, Natalie and Burt. The
audience generally associates these individuals as the main manipulators in Memento, however that
Christopher Nolan and Leonard, respectively, manipulate the audience and themselves far more than
anyone else. Leonard is seen manipulating himself several times throughout Memento. One of the
ways he does this is through his tattoos. He writes certain things on his body to influence what he
will remember such as remember Sammy Jenkins. Leonard also uses photos and writes information
on these as well as the tattoos. The color sequences begin to elude that Leonard might have mixed
motives for writing something down on a photo. Teddy eludes that Leonard is a serial killer and that
he killed the real John. G. over a year ago. "After Teddy reveals this to Leonard, Leonard purposely
alters the memory and writes down on his photo to not trust Teddy. The audience begins to realize
that Leonard alters the tattoos and photos for his own personal gain" (Vane 2) Teddy later reveals
that Leonard had taken out pages in his own file and that his wife did not die in the attack and

The most notorious that comes to mind are: Selena, Tonya Harding clubbing Nancy Kerrigan, O.J.
Simpson's murder trial and the Lewinsky scandal; such scandals build the framework for audiences
to enjoy Chicago as a critique of America's penal system in relation to fame. The main scandal in the
movie starts as Roxie shots her lover after discovering that he had lied to her about working to
further her singing career. Velma eliminates her husband and sister after finding them together in
bed. Billy Flynn, a slick lawyer who has never lost a case represents both women. His approach is to
set up his clients as media darlings, then use that exposure to swing the trial in their favor. "In
this town, murder's a form of entertainment," he comments. He refers to courtrooms as
"three ring circuses" and assures Roxie that justice can be blinded by the "razzle
dazzle" he will employ. Aside from sheer entertainment, the plot in Chicago also provides a
social critique for the criminal justice system and celebrity "status quo". It shines a light on matters
like murder, justice, and Hollywood. After watching the movie, the audience can expect to be left
feeling like a great musical orgy has just taken place in front of their eyes and with something more

The dialogue in this scene is the most helpful in terms of establishing the storylines and grabbing the
attention of the viewer. We learn that Jim owes Pando $10,000 for which he will soon be killed, we
learn that Jim will give Pando $15.000 if he lets him go ("I'm doing a job tomorrow. Let me go and
I'll give you 15"), we learn that Pando is willing to give Jim a chance by letting him try 013, and that
Pando really doesn't want to have to kill him but it seems like he has little choice ("sorry Jimmy").
The next section of the opening sequence takes us back to what is seemingly the beginning of the
film, to the heart of King's Cross. Jim is standing out the front of a strip joint with a friend of his. It
seems the two are employed by the club to entice male passer–buyers into the club. Through their
dialogue the viewer can deduce that Jim intends on doing some work for someone name Pando, who
incidentally is someone 'you don't want to get mixed up with'. The viewer may also conclude that
Jim is unhappy with his current line of work and wishes to move up through the King's Cross
'hierarchy', so to speak, by doing this job.
During this scene Jim's relationship with Pando and Alex are established, or re–established in the
case of Pando. Jim's first impressions of Alex, an Alex's first impressions of Jim are evident through

For my at home movie I watched Hang em' High directed by Ted Post. It is considered a spaghetti
western that was made in America. In comparison to the film we watched in class, High Noon
directed by Fred Zinnemann. These two westerns had many similarities and differences. From
differences in how the movie was actually shot, to the similarity of how both of the main characters
are loners, these two movies connect all over on many different levels.
High Noon was the story of a very brave man, Will Kane played by Gary Cooper, which is giving up
his Sheriff position to become a homemaker with him wife. Just when they are leaving to start their

In the movie Hang em' High, Clint Eastwood plays the main character Jed Cooper. A group of men
accuse him of stealing cattle and killing one of their neighbors. When he can't prove to them his
innocence, they hang him. It just so happens that a U.S. Marshall was in the area and he saved
Cooper's life. Then the Marshall brought him to the judge to see if he is guilty. Eventually, it was
discovered that Cooper was innocent, and had bought the cattle from a criminal who killed the
owner then sold the cattle to him. Cooper was finally released, but he now wanted revenge on the
men who tried to lynch him. The judge tells Cooper to give their descriptions to one of his marshal's
and they will try to find them, but Cooper feels that it's not enough. The judge warns Cooper about
taking the law into his own hands. When he told the judge that he was a formal law man, and he
knows the law, the judge offers Cooper a job as a Marshall, and he takes the job. After accepting the
job, he goes around and tried to gather up all men that tried to hang him. Along the way he has many
side adventures, and tests the limits of right and wrong. In the end after a good old fashion western
shoot out, Cooper goes back to town and decides that he's done, or so we think. The judge made him
