THE PITCH
Shark Bait Hoo-ha-ha
Final Film Idea
 A group of 4 people go to enter a lift in a office heading for
one of the top floors.
 Mid way through the power to the lift is cut and the group is
stuck in-between floors.
 The lights begin to fault and even time they go off one of the
people inside die.
 One of the people inside is a killer…
Why?
 This idea seemed unique as it has a unconventional setting
unlike other thrillers that are often set in forests, etc.
 Having the characters trapped in one metal box makes it
extremely tense especially once they find out one of them
is a killer.
 Will be accomplishable to film and produce a final product
up to standard.
Genre + Subgenre
 The main genre that we are working with is a thriller with
the sub-genre of psychological.
 From the audience research, it shows that the majority of
the audience would like to see a psychological thriller
Conventions
 Low key lighting is a common convention within many
thrillers to build a tense and ominous atmosphere.
 A dark colour palette to create the dark and spooky
atmosphere and give it a darker and more serious tone.
 A ominous and slow soundtrack is often used in thrillers to
construct the mood of the film.
Character or Narrative.
 For a film focusing on a group of characters trapped in a
tight enclosed space, establishing character will be
important to an opening and to the story.
 The characters will drive the story forward with their
interactions with each other.
 Establishing a narrative is important too but this story is
fairly simple and will be mostly told through the
characters interactions.
Opening sequence conventions
 An opening sequences main serves to introduce the
audience to the characters and narrative.
 Another key part of openings is the credit to the cast and
crew who have worked on the production.
 During the opening, it will focus more on introducing the
characters over the narrative.
Visual style
 The lighting will be fairly dark with very few spots of
bright intense light, which will only be used to add
emphasise to certain moments.
 The clothing will be modern as the setting is during a
modern period.
 The editing will be fairly slow, with long drawn out shorts
on the characters that lead to them all getting in the lift
one by one. The cuts between them will be fairly fast with
some cross cutting to show what each character is doing
at a certain time.
Target Audience
 The target audience is really anyone above the age of 16
with no specific gender.
 No specific gender is being targeted to give it a wider
appeal to the audience.
 From the survey, the majority of the audience asked for a
tense tone and the set up for a mystery to be in the
opening meaning this will be in the final product.
Influence on final product
 From the survey, the majority of the audience asked for a
tense tone and the set up for a mystery to be in the
opening meaning this will be in the final product.
 Out of the all the people asked, there was a good spread
of different genders, so the final product will include a
wide variety of gender.
Unique selling points
 The setting and plot of the final production, a group of
people trapped in a lift, hasn’t really been done before.
 Characters of more that two gender, which are not
typically shown.
