As new thriller films are being released constantly in 2012 the
number is going up, it’s hard to keep track of how many thriller
films have been realised. I believe so far there have been a total
of 46 thriller films.

in 2012?
• In 2012 the thriller genre has proven to be a profitable genre. The hunger
games film which is part of a trilogy was released in 2012. it managed to sell
52,108,645 tickets and grossed $408,010,692,this makes the hunger games
the 3rd most profitable thriller film of all time.
• Other thriller films such as The Bourne legacy and taken 2 Grossed over
$100 million dollars each and are both part of a series.

As you can see, the thriller genres market share is at it’s peak.
5. What films where most
successful?
• The hunger games was very successful film. I think this is because
the film is an adaptation of a book which is popular among it’s target
audience. The book has sold over 23million copies which means it
has a very large fan base which would not only just read to book but
are also likely to go see the film.
• The Bourne legacy is a sequel to a previous film in the “Bourne”
series. This means that the film was highly anticipated by it’s fan
base which always means the film will get some popularity.
6. Thriller Target audience?
I believe that the target audience has allot to do with the sub
genres. For example silence of the lambs is a horror as well as
a crime/psychological thriller. This film is aiming more at
males in there late teens. This is because the age rating is an
18+ due to explicit content which people of that age should be
mature enough to understand that level of content whereas
someone who is 13-14 years of age might not be.
Whereas other thrillers such as se7en and the sixth sense are
aimed at any gender and teenagers aged 15+

7. Conclusion
In conclusion I think that the thriller genre is very popular in
modern day society.
According to my research I have no reason to believe that the
thriller genre wont stop growing. Looking at future sequels
which are set to follow on from films which have been
released this year and have been successful. Eg. The Bourne
series and the hunger games trilogy.
Finally I have a good idea of what the target audience of thriller
films are. It has a good range of ages which will help me
decide what age group I will aim at from my final production.
