1. Drafting ideas – G321 media project.
Possible choices
PICKED CHOICE
An abandoned house
A forest
Dark alleyways
An abandoned mansion house
Pitch-black Park
Choosing a setting for the opening 2 minutes was rather hard as there were a
great deal of locations to pick from ranging from a dark beach all the way to and
abandoned mansion house however we took the 5 above to consideration and
then picked 3 to consider which in this case were an abandoned house, an
abandoned mansion house and a forest and we thought which we could use to
the greatest effect and we realised that an abandoned house did not bring the
amount of scale we wanted for our project and considered either a forest or an
abandoned mansion house, we chose the mansion house over the forest due to
the idea that the house could apply to the ideas put forward by Carol Clover that
the walls keeping the protagonist safe would later act as a prison keeping the
two together and in this case keeping Katrina in danger.
Killer
Ghost
Mythological monster e.g. werewolf
Demon
Alien
We knew what we wanted to create with our antagonist as we wanted to create a
physical antagonist which was very easy and which the audience could tell was a
threat so the suggestion of a ghost was left rather instantly with the idea that the
audience would not see the ghost and would not understand just how much the
character of Katrina was in. so therefor it was left to an Alien, Demon and Killer
then it got to the sense of realism and the idea that a killer can be seen as more of
a realistic threat to audiences that say an alien due to the popularity of slasher
and psychotic killers.
Morning
Mid day
Late afternoon
Night-time
We are choosing to set it at night time due to the suspenseful atmosphere it
could create and the general idea that a suspenseful part of a horror movie when
set in a large environment is normally set in the dark so therefore it was very
easy to pick a time to record our raw footage as opposed to the brightness of the
morning and mid day along with the afternoon not being dark enough.
