2. Main character
• We have addressed our audience by using a woman as the main character. In
thriller films we researched; the villain was a man on most occasions, therefore
we thought that using a woman would create an Enigma code. This would
make the audience try and solve mysteries during the film and try to find out
who the villain is. The audience would stereotype men as the villain than
women to be villains.
3. Location
• In films we researched the codes and conventions of a thriller scene is usually
dark and gloomy.
• There were two main scenes in our film; the first was at the house which is in
the kitchen where the villain picks up the knife and going up the attic to kill the
child and the other one is at the coffee shop where she has a drink, and reads
the paper where it says there is a child missing in Woodley. In the kitchen we
lowered the contrast and bighting to make it look dark and scary. This makes
audience feel scared because they cant really see what is going on and that
creates a sense that something might jump in the scene to thrill them. The
coffee shop scene was filmed on a sunny day; this made the audience relax
from the flashback scene. This also created an enigma because the audience
saw the villain pick the knife up and then saw her like an average person at a
coffee shop.
4. Props and lighting
• In thriller films we researched a gun was used more than a kitchen
knife. A knife is a less powerful weapon to use. I think we used a knife
because it would look more realistic to kill a child with a knife than a
gun in a sub-urban area.
