1. Covet – Basement – Track Analysis
Between 00:00 and 00:11 the song remains relatively calm with
only light electric guitar playing and soft vocals however then at
00:12 drums are introduced and the electric guitar is amplified
as the vocals stop and we remain with only drums and guitar
until 00:43 and until 01:09 we hear “White hair, and a hopeful
smile. Your inside, is on your outside. I need, a pleasant surprise”
which due to there being no official video we can not see
whether it would be illustrated, amplified or just completely
ignored in terms of relating the video to the narrative and this is
the case all the way through the video.
Then from 01:11 to 01:48 we hear “Good heart and desire to
please. I want a fatal disease.” Followed by the chorus “ When
I’m with you, I don’t wanna be with you.” Twice stressing the
feeling of this video that it is not about a boy or girl falling in love
but could in fact be the opposite.
Then from 01:49 to 02:06 we get light guitar and drums simply
playing to ease the song down a bit. Then from 02:06 we remain
with the down toned feel of the video whilst the lyrics “You are,
everything. My most, demanding dream.” However then at 02:17
the guitar again gets louder and more exaggerated in the song
along with the lead singer who raises his voice more than
previously to again re visit the lyrics “Good heart and desire to
please. I want a fatal disease.” Putting forth whoever he is
singing about and him are complete opposites. After this we go
from 02:33 – the end of the song with we get the chorus
repeated four times until 03:33 – 03:47 which ends with a calm
cymbal beat until the song ends.
Overall the song lasts 3 minutes and 47 seconds featuring 2
guitarists, a singer, a bassist and a drummer. It is in the post
hardcore genre and fits well with the style that is displays
through the lyrics and the instruments.
