The School is situated on a road with plenty of parking
opportunities. There are also sev eral staff car parks with
v isitor spaces should this be necessary. Alternate methods of
arriving could include bus or train, either to the bus stop on
TattenhamWay,or toBanstead,and then a short walktothe
school. Cast have a variety of options of getting tothe location
and sothis shouldn’t be a factor that limits their availability.
Basic classrooms are equipped with plug sockets and
fluorescent lights. This will make charging the camera
simple if needed. The exterior scenes are filmed close to
the classrooms, although there isn’t any electricity
outside. It is important tocharge thecamera whilst inside,
to av oid it running out where there arenoplug sockets to
plug it in.
The food technology classrooms are equipped with appliances
that become very hot whilst on, as well as sharp utensils. It is
important topay care and attention tothe surroundings when
filming, especially tomake sure that allovens are off, and that
during the knife shot, the actor is being supervised. The
workshops alsohave heavy duty machinery and work tools, as
well as dangerous substances. It is important that the area is
as tidy as possible when in use, to avoid the risk of tripping,
falling or being injured by these objects in any other way.The
machinery has large red stop buttons which are easily located
in the event of being turned on. The glue and thefile scene are
to be superv ised to av oid injury where possible.
Evaluation
(Space/Lighting/Sound etc.)
Each classroom has plenty of spacetofilm the correct amounts of coverage;establishing shots down toECU. Thereis alsoenough space for a variety of angles toallow for the most coverage,
for the edit tocut together as well as it possibly could. The fluorescent lighting creates a warm colour palette, and at times may distract from the mood. This can be fixed with whitebalance
or with the use of natural lighting, which is entirely possible in the earlier scenes,as many of the classrooms have large windows that let in plenty of light. In later scenes, the fluorescent
lighting may be used tolight darker rooms.Alternately, soft boxes or open faced film lights may be used if necessary. Each area of the school varies in sound quality as wellas sound that
may interrupt filming. All classrooms have a good acoustic, with no echoes or loud sounds. I would have to film afterschool, which may require some patience in some areas, as the Art
Department is situated next toMusic and Dance, which may be an issue if there were tobe extracurricular activities taking place.Torectify this, filming willtakeplace in the pauses of any
music,or on days afterschool when there are nostudents staying in that department.Similarly, the cleaners provide further interruption whilst they are doing jobs around theschool such
as hoov ering and sweeping. Likewise, filming should take place in between the noise, as it is li kely to be inconsistent enough as not to prov ide too much of an interruption.
