MACKENZIE, a female teenager in her late teens sits deserted
on an empty, darkly coloured sofa, cowering into the corner
as much as possible, her eyes wide with fear as her knees

gaze is focused on nothing in particular. She just stares
into space whilst leaves rustle in her peripheral vision.
Mackenzie suddenly snaps out of her daze, panicking.
Quickly reaching towards the table and dials 3 numbers on
her phone to listen for her messages.

Traffic lights can be seen in the near distance, focusing on
the lights and only what is in front of her an anxious,
upset and approaching the point of tears Mackenzie walks
just a little faster, sniffling as she makes her way along
the path as speedily as possible.
A little girl stands quietly, watching the scene in front of
her not quite sure what to do about the girl in front of her
since she’s so young.
Mackenzie stops abruptly as she comes to the little girl who
is definitely too young to be outside and away from an adult
of any kind. She slowly approaches the child as to not scare
her and bends down so she is nearer her level.
MACKENZIE
Hi, I’m Mackenzie...it seems as if
you are a little lost, what’s your
name?
CAROLINE
Caroline, I’m not sure what
happened I was with my mummy in the
park near a hospital and then I was
skipping along and now I am here.
MACKENZIE
Caroline I will be able to take you
back to your mummy but you have to
trust me and take my hand, we have
to cross some big, scary roads
okay?
At this point Mackenzie’s full focus is on Caroline, and her
own worries are completely forgotten.
CAROLINE
Okay, when will I see my mummy
again?
MACKENZIE
Soon Caroline, I promise, now let’s
go, before we waste any more time.
They begin to walk, hand in hand, along the back streets of
the city, not once does Caroline’s trust in Mackenzie seem
to waiver.
Countless amounts of cars, small, red, long, silver, black
made their way past them.
Up ahead a huge road can be seen that needs to be crossed in
order to approach the hospital, Mackenzie squeezes

Caroline’s hand in reassurance and also to rid herself of
her own fear and finally they are ready to be reunited with
their families. Turning her head away from the cars
Mackenzie looks straight ahead, staring at the path in front
of her.
Finally... She can see her long awaited destination up
ahead.
